Yahapalana Marriage To Continue In Reduced Circumstances

The unity arrangement between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the United National Party (UNP) will be rebooted once President Maithripala Sirisena returns to the island upon the conclusion of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Minister of Finance and Media Mangala Samaraweera, who is currently in the UK speaking to a group of journalists at a private gathering in last 20th evening disclosed that the current impasse with respect to the reshuffling of the cabinet is likely to be resolved when the President returns.

Samaraweera, however, said that a few ministers who voted in favor of the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe earlier this month would probably join the ranks of the Opposition.

Earlier this week a committee made of SLFP ministers appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the leader of that party announced that efforts are underway to patch up differences with the UNP and give the unity government a second chance.

Committee Chairman Sarath Amunugama said that it was decided to seek a fresh agreement with the UNP once the President returns to the island on Tuesday (24th). He added that a set of recommendations have been drawn up which, following perusal by the President will be submitted to the UNP. It is expected that eventually the General Secretaries of the two parties will sign an agreement paving the way for the cabinet reshuffle.

It was reported that a senior member of the UNP had echoed these views, stating that the party is awaiting these proposals. Once agreement is reached the unity government can continue, he had opined.

Rajapaksas still unable to see the strategic move ahead to cripple them before the next Presidential Elections. Possibly including a trip to Hage by one of the 3 as a part of what’s ahead!? Multiple prosecutions with death penalty!?
Going to be an eventful 12 months for sure!

In Yahapalanaya, what is remarkable is President’s ability to maintain his composure amidst utter chaos!
Although we didn’t pay much attention, his leadership type is total new to Sri Lankans.
His style of leadership is like shepherdship (mentioned by Mandela in his book.) Shepherdship is leading the pack from behind letting the active, troublesome and most agile to go in the front wandering and grazing in the terrain freely while the mature move slow behind them. Then the shepherd spends his time playing his flute and singing. At the end of the day his pack comes back to the barn led by the mature, followed by the agile. He doesn’t lead his pack. He doesn’t push them at all. But he owns the pack!
One big advantage of President’s shepherdship is, he can see every movement in his pack which is crucial in his situation.
During Mahinda’s first term (2005-2010) he led his pack from the front but kept them in close proximity. It was not easy cos’ to lead from the front, the leader should be aggressively confident, inspiring, motivational, takes challenges head on and have a clear vision, direction and destination. During his second term (2010-2015), he went ahead with his clan, leaving his pack behind who lost their leader’s vision and direction causing conflict, mistrust and division among them. The result was Mahinda losing his team. He was clueless of what was happening behind him. He should have looked back. But then it shows lack of confidence.
Anyways, shepherdship is not good for Sri Lanka as it has no vision or targets. Therefore, we don’t see any progress.
What Sri Lanka needs is a ruthlessly ambitious leader who could lead from the front with equally ambitious, loyal and talented pack behind him. Do we see anyone? Nope!

“In Yahapalanaya, what is remarkable is President’s ability to maintain his composure amidst utter chaos!” – Yes because he is the one creating the Chaos.

“One big advantage of President’s shepherdship is, he can see every movement in his pack which is crucial in his situation.” – Proverb ” There are none so blind as those who will not see”.

“What Sri Lanka needs is a ruthlessly ambitious leader who could lead from the front with equally ambitious, loyal and talented pack behind him. Do we see anyone? Nope!” – Yes we have a population of 22 million – there must be someone out there.

What Sri Lanka needs is a Leader, not merely a politician, who can unite all races, religions, castes, etc and provide a safe and secure environment for the present and future generations to live. Economic prosperity and development will follow as in Singapore. Do we see anyone ? Nope !

        Steve
President is cool because he owns the pack! That is why he doesn’t care where his pack grazes in the terrain whether they are close to him or far from him.
Now UPFA has 3 teams. Maithree’s team, Mahinda’s team and Orphans’ team operating both in the government and in the opposition. A Parliament like no other!!!!
        .
About following Singapore. Sri Lanka is 94 times bigger than Singapore. Aren’t we trying to be like them since 1978? :D During this period we have sold the most important harbour in the country to foreigners. The second airport in Mattala is also up for sale for foreigners. Next will be oil tanks and Trinco harbour to foreigners. A part of the sea in Colombo is also sold to foreigners. Lands in the heart of Colombo are sold to foreigners followed by various other lands in the country. We are on the way to legalize cannabis. And then the rest of the forest will be razed down and sold to foreigners to grow cannabis. Routine government services are also sold to foreigners. Even hospital dry cleaning service is sold to foreigners. Ambulance service is sold to foreigners. Our staple food-rice is also now provided by foreigners. Even salt is coming from foreign countries. Our virgin forest is sold to foreigners. You name it, foreigners own it. Are you still dreaming to be like Singapore, Steve?

          Champa.

Your analogy of a shepherd and pack is excellent, however, at present the pack is leading the shepherd as the shepherd has no clue whether he is coming or going.

            Steve
Yeah it look like that. But actually it is not. Shepherd doesn’t take care of the pack. But he doesn’t neglect them either. He doesn’t lead. He only directs the pack. As seen his pack is running on various directions like real sheep. No, actually I am joking. Though shepherdship is a type of a leadership, it is good only if the person wants to kill time same as a real shepherd.

Yes, maybe a dream that will never come true. We will never ever have a leader like the founder of modern Singapore. Chinese, Malays and Tamils live in peace and harmony and work hard to develop Singapore.

Yeah I fully agree with this. None of our leaders had a practical national vision to develop the country which could have continued. Every leader says they want to self-sustain the country. Only words. They have no clue how to.

I wasn’t interested in the Cabinet reshuffle. But now I have a second thought.
      .
President should take over the Minister of Buddha Sasana portfolio forthwith.
The boldest move since 2015 to convert Sri Lanka into a secular country is happening now. The secular Buddha Sasana Minister Jayawickrema Perera has reconfirmed that the BAN on erecting Pandols on the “Vesak-Poson Poya Days” in “May and June” remain unchanged but Buddhists can do so “on other days.” I should stop typing now otherwise the language I might use here will be ugly. Not my fault, though. It was “Yahapalanaya” which brought bad words to my mouth.
      .
I regret my tardiness in saying this. Declaring late Full Moon Poya Day in April as the Vesak Day seemed to be a well planned conspiracy to prevent Buddhists celebrating Vesak in May which is the religious month to commemorate Lord Buddha’s Birth-Enlightenment-Passing Away and Poson in June to commemorate the arrival of Arahat Mahinda.
      .
This ban is a conspiracy to remove the world famous most prominent feature in celebrating Vesak/Poson in the nights of Full Moon Poya Days in May/June. Erecting Pandols is charity where people contribute in cash and kind. Any practice or offering in the name of Lord Buddha, whether by observing Sil, alms-giving, charity, lighted lamps/lanterns/Pandols bring peace, joy and happiness to people. Pandols are a hallmark which depict Jathaka Stories enlightening/inspiring people. Aaloka Pooja, Offering of Lights, from lighting a clay lamp to erecting Pandols is not only an act of paying homage to Lord Buddha but also our culture. This is our heritage, man.
      .
All minority religions have full freedom in Sri Lanka. But Buddhists have no freedom even to erect Pandols commemorating Vesak and Poson on “Full Moon Poya Days” in “May and June.”

Silisena will lean on the UNP as he does not have the support of the people or party. The first opportunity he gets he will stab Ranil on his back. This might be through a deal with Gota or Basil. I don’t think MR is stupid enough to trust this guy.

Ranil should not give up his request to the President to appoint Sarath Fonseka as Minister of Law and Order. Only Fonseka can bring the rogues before the Justice System. If Fonseka is not appointed to this post we all will know who is to be blamed – The President.

Good suggestion. Lets hope it materialises for the Good of the country.

In lighter vein, what about Ravi Karunanayake as Minister of Finance or Economic Development? He had the cheek to claim, a few days back, that he will “build up the economy in 100 days if given the responsibility.” Don’t be surprised if his dream comes true. RW is likely to be more keen on getting this Royal Thief into the side than bringing Sarath Fonseka in.

The current lot of Yahapalanaya failures will somehow pull together to delay the inevitable. They are all fearful for the wrath of the people when it comes. MS and RW will put on a brave face and hope that when the time comes they will be in better shape or that the people will have forgotten their failures, and give them a second chance because the alternative is worse.

Meanwhile, in London, MS puts on smile, but is secretly dying for a good curry after all the bland stuff served at the many official tamashas.

Yahapalanaya – Joke of the century. Maithripala sirisena is no different from Ranil, the Minister with multiple Fraud charges, the previous govt and the JAckal Opposition thieves. they all are there to get rich and live lives at the expense of whgat poor maids make in the middle east. Whgat a way to rob the country. SLFP< , , Pohottua are importsant to them as those provide them a way to live. three wheller parties are also waitng for the opportunity to rob the country. Behind all of that Evengliests, and Muslims want their share.

Now the problem is unp the people like jr, premadasa gamini or lalith do not know that how to handle a huge business economy Which was created by mahinda rajapaksas modern slfp. Entire high ranking business community in srilanka are the die heart supporters of mahindas modern slfp. Unp only has a small vote base as a party of 23% when comparing with mahindas modern slfp srilanka podujaja peramuna the largest single party in srilankan history holds 46% vote base.unp does not know how to do a business liberal economy that is the weakest area for unp the better option to run this country is until 2020 unp has to focus on agriculture based economy and the janasaviya type unp economic policy which the people like jr, premadasa or ds senanayak did. Otherwise we can not do this economy until 2020. Unp please do a agricultural based economy which was familiar to you. And give the government on 2020 to the mahindas modern slfp the will build the business economy again who are the architects and the masters of hightech new liberal business economy after 2020. Unp Please give us survive until 2020 by doing an agricultural based economy like the people like jr or premadsa did

Oh yeah, Mahinda’s policies created a new wealthy lot which is only 5%-10% of the entire population who invested in the stock market, bonds and various businesses.
The distribution of wealth in Sri Lanka at present is annoyingly disproportionate which is at 10:90. 90% of the population is comprised of lower middle class and the poor. If you think at the next election these people will remain blind faith and let the 10% of the wealthy to decide the future of Sri Lanka, you are very much mistaken.
You boast about SLPP being the largest group. Sri Lanka only needs one man’s voice from the lower middle class to change the scenario. Sometimes the impossible could happen changing the entire political equation of the country as never before. Who knows someone will simplify the rules of game at the next Presidential election excluding the affluent.

      • 2
        1

        DEAR CHAMPA

90% of the population deciding on the fate of the country is fine, provided they are well informed, intelligent and know exactly what is wrong and how to put things right.

In society steeped in ignorance, blind faith, prejudice and servitude where logical thinking is not in fashion, depending on the majority decision can be fatal.

Thathe is the downside of democracy.

          DEAR JUSTICE AND FAIRPLAY
Sri Lanka had 6 Executive Presidents. 3 from the UNP, 3 from the SLFP (I didn’t count Gopallawa.)
Then we had 14 Prime Ministers. 7 from the UNP, 7 from the SLFP.
Out of these 20 leaders, Senanayakes have held the position of the PM 4 times. Bandaranaikes have held the positions of PM & President 7 times. Rajapaksa has held the positions of PM & President 3 times.
They all followed same policies of their respective parties.
What is the point of electing the next President from the same UNP and the SLFP/SLPP. SLPP is not a new party. It is the same people with same SLFP policies. It is only a new label to the old bottle.
The leaders of UNP and SLFP/SLPP have already proved, nearly 20 times, I repeat 20 times, for the past 70 years that their policies lack coherence. In simple, coherence. None of them had a clear vision. They all went different directions. They all have tried various directions and failed.
90% of the ordinary public who are comprised of the lower middle class and the poor should reject UNP/SLFP/SLPP point blank. No explanation is necessary. People should seriously think of choosing a new leader. A new person who comes up with a new vision should be given a chance in 2019/2020.

          • 0
            1

            To be added:
            .
UNP/SLFP have governed the country for 29 times!!!!
I don’t think people are so foolish to try the 30th time in 2019/2020.

          • 1
            0

I absolutely agree with your logic stated above CHAMPA. There is absolutely no doubt all the political parties you have mentioned should be summarily rejected. But the issue is will 90% of our population who are largely ignorant vote these fellows out?

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind too that a new face with a new vision should come forward as the Presidential candidate in 2020.

            Enough is enough.

            • 1

              Dear Champa,

Just to go on a bit further…. we are all FED UP with the cheap theatrics as practiced by the top two persons governing this land. They have a warped view of what politics is, where the Law is subservient to them. No decent, forward looking, progressive country works that way. In such countries, the Law is supreme. When the President proclaims that he has ordered the Police for an “apakshapathee pareekshanayak”, then we know that the Police investigations normally are NOT unbiased and the President knows it too.

This is not the way we wished these two -once highly respected individuals – to act. And now we have come to the end of the tether. However well they may govern from now on, a fresh face can and will win, if the credentials are right.

Just a waste of valuable time. We got caught to fancy promises made by this Government and elected these fools. This bugger Sillysena is complaining of malicious propaganda against them but have forgotten what amount of malicious propaganda he made against his own boss to win this election. The mud he slung has come around to hit him, this backboneless idiot should understand this. He should not promise what he cannot deliver. Best he resigns from his job and give it to someone who has vision and courage to deliver. (But that too is a million dollar question).

I think best we go back to colonial rule and hand Sri Lanka to a foreign country such as UK like in those days. At least then we all will become Sri Lankans when all citizens are ‘equal’, unlike now when we are either Majority Sinhalese with special privileges, or Minorities!

    • 1
      1

      Shrikharan
What special privileges do majority Sinhalese have? Give me a list.
What are you talking. Buddhists now don’t have freedom to erect a Pandol on the most significant Poya Day in May. This slave government has even put restrictions on Dansalas (Open House for food.) I am fighting to preserve my right to erect a Pandol on the Full Moon Poya Day in May, which is the official Vesak Day.
This government took away our right to commemorate Vesak in May.
There was a blue moon in March causing two Full Moon Poya Days. It happens sometimes as February has only 28 days. A full moon occurs every 30 days.
It was wrong to declare April Full Moon Poya Day as Vesak. Vesak should always be in May on the Full Moon Poya Day and Poson in June.
This slave government dare not put any restrictions on religions of minorities and Sinhalese Christians cos’ it is considered as a violation of various fundamental rights or a violation of human rights or an attack on religious freedom. But whatever restrictions they impose on majority Buddhists are considered ok. Although the majority, Sinhalese Buddhists are the most suppressed population in Sri Lanka.

Yes according to you Majority race is discriminated but not the minority (religious or language).

Still it proves my point either way in a foreign colonial rule we all become Sri Lankans because there is NO majority or minority and all are ‘Browns’ and so all are ‘Sri Lankans’ having equal treatment.

Managal Samaraweera and his family was having strong political link with UNP since 1964.

Managala S….father was betray SLFP and escaped and crossover to UNP 1964 December by overnight! At that time Mahana S…was helping hand given by Lake house powerful Director of Esmond Wickraksinghe was father of RW of UNP current leader???
MS is man that always stand support for anti- Truth of politics, since he has been very inception join SLFP?
The Party of Samaraweera clan are most of them are not that honest and fully sincerer to people of Sri Lankan?

But needless to say SWRD and SRD Banadarake of SLFP had NOT that extended to goodwill politics to UNP leadership!
But MS and CBK of so-called “SLFP” want to safeguard politics of UNP’s RW leadership. Indeed aim of covered up the UNP -RW all corruptions of CB bank robbery since 2015 January 8th ? Who interest is this?

Whether it is from front or behind the result is the same, both these leaders cannot be trusted if they lead the flock or follow the flock, they will anyhow continue with political deals they are experts in, Redemption is possible if only you get rid of the present set of wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Agree. All present and past sets should not be given another chance. There is no point of people remain divided among various political parties when the leaders of same parties have overt and covert deals with other parties. It is time to be united irrespective of party politics and find a new leader acceptable to the majority.

The British Centre in Gampaha, which is run by Sri Lanka’s “best” NGO human rights consultant, is in the news again. This time round, they have advertised for Management Executives on http://www.topjobs.lk in the Corporate Management/Analysts section. Now, here’s the first paragraph from their advertisement:
“British Centre Sri Lanka is the first Sri Lankan educational institute specialised in building capacity of students to become the best English speakers. Supported by the UK qualified pool of native English teachers, British Centre Sri Lanka is equipped with a digital and physical library and state-of-the-art lecture facilities which provide the best and right ambiance to enable students to improve their skills and abilities to become great English speakers to converse the language easily, confidently, and fluently. “

The corruption of Mahinda R, Basil, Gota, Weerawansa, Prasanna Ranathunga and Namal in the past regime is now taken over and done by Malik Samara, Kiriella, Kabir Hashim, Ravi Karu (now gone) and Mangala Samaraweera. Then the SLFP lot headed by MY3, Animal Siripala, Premajayantha, Anura Priyadarshana, Chandima Weerak, Musthapa, Fowzi and John Senevirathne and lots of others like Dilan, Thilanga Sumathipala and SB Dissanayake. So basically the corruption amount is same as before.
