You Don’t Want To Burn Your Fingers A Second Time – Bring Sarath Fonseka, Mr President

By Shyamon Jayasinghe

Shyamon Jayasinghe

“SF has already fought in civil politics to learn the qualitative differences in battlefield-leading and leading among civilian populations. I am sure he will adhere to those lessons of political life.”

History’s Lessons

History does not teach us two lessons; the second one isn’t a lesson; but a deadly, unrelenting, terminal blow.

Writers for the broad civil movement of yahapalanaya like us, were absolutely bewildered and stunned when our dear old President was seen playing a tragi-comedy in the style of Sancho Panza in Don Quixote, while evil forces who had set him up via proxies were laughing in the background.

The proxies succeeded in part by bringing into the periphery  of power their masters or principals; they failed in letting the Unity Government implode from within. For that, we have already thanked the Prime Minister. It is now left to see if the evil forces of former authoritarian, corrupt, amoral and murderous leadership will wade their way through tricky waters right into the centre -once again. Our country cannot afford a repeat. The statistics of voting didn’t, to be sure, say that; but such an outcome cannot be ruled out given  the reality of Lankan politics where rice and coconuts could sway populations more than polices for longterm welfare and prosperity.

Good Human Being

In Maitripala Sirisena, we have a good human being who could sing along with Amaradeva or carry over his shoulders the remains of that great legend of our times. The nation will not forget such symbolisms. Sirisena is not a flambyuoant type wearing a special Satakaya to look special like Gaddafi. He does not wear gold rings-even enchanted ones- around all his fingers. Have we seen even Pirith Nool around his wrist? Unlike Ranil, he never even visited the Kovil to placate that deity. On the other hand, he has to learn to be more sophisticated about political forces and not be unfittingly caught in political traps. How could he ever have trusted the SLFP or UPFA blokes who regathered around him for positions? Especially those who are seen in videos even today on social media running down and insulting Maitripala Sirisena during the 2015 Presidential election campaign?  It is downright commonsense,  surely?

Balaya Vindeema and Balopadaana

However, strangely, we seem to find President Sirisena morphing into something of his predecessor and we were scared of things to come. This is the taste of power-they say. The experience  of power (balaya vindeema) seems to inevitably and imperceptibly slip leaders-whether in government or business- to a state of clinging to power (balaya upadaana or balopadaanaya). Mahinda Rajapaksa tasted absolute power for so long that he could live it up only by delusions of grandeur that he developed. I suppose, that may be the next stage after upadaana.

Three years into power, our friend Maitripala Sirisena developed upadaana. On the advise of his proxies he had a go at an extension that brought chills down our spine reminding us of the 18th Amendment. Then, he was persuaded to believe that he can lead an independent alternate force challenging his predecessor. For that, he had to differentiate himself from Ranil Wickremesinghe and the UNP. What happened after that is bad history.

Bring in Sarath Fonseka

That President Sirisena hasn’t fully comprehended the lesson of the recent past seems clear when one observes how he had turned down a request by PM to hand over the much talked -of Law & Order Portfolio  to the former General who is now in the UNP. It seems obvious that the President’s proxies are still at work. Former regime men know that their fate is sealed with SF in that chair. Supporters of yahapalanaya and the UNP want just that. On the other hand, the President has refused just that.

Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka has proved himself as a tough and no-nonsense, incorruptible leader who demonstrated every resilience to win the war for our country. He and his men travelled every terrain and bog; under sun and rain; amidst raining bullet fire from enemies to get to that goal. For the portfolio of Law & Order, the country needs a man of that calibre. SF has already fought in civil politics to learn the qualitative differences in battlefield-leading and leading among civilian populations. I am sure he will adhere to those lessons of political life. Our instinct and intuition says, “Give it to him.”

That act of giving alone would go a long way to boost public confidence in the yahapalanaya government. That will also keep the JO jacks-in -the -boxes on alert-not to make mischief. The public cry for resolute action and they are fed up with pussyfooting

Ranil cannot hold this portfolio as he isn’t temperamentally suited for that. Besides, his skills are pertaining to the economy and policy planning at which he has been doing pretty well.

“Unlike Ranil, he never even visited the Kovil to placate that deity. “

You may have not seen him visiting temple in Sri Lanka however he was seen seriously praying at Tirumala temple in ANDHRA PRADESH. There could be a hidden political reason behind his attempt to hide his faith in South Indian deities.

President Sirisena prays at Tirumala temple.

He has gone back on his words on war crime investigations, broke promises to those who have not seen nor heard about their missing war victims, scared of Dr Gota and his merry security men who cannot be charged for embezzling state funds simply because they were war heroes, and was with the stupid Brigadier until the elections were over, …………. He also promised to protect all war heroes irrespective of their involvement in war crime. In the case of General Jagath Jayasuriya he categorically said he will never allow any war heroes to be prosecuted .

      Here is the excerpt:
“I state very clearly that I will not allow anyone in the world to touch Jagath Jayasuriya or any other military chief or any war hero in this country,” President Maithripala Sirisena said on Sunday, addressing a convention of his Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

On the other hand the lonely Field Marshall is a public racist who promised to drag the clan to Galle Face Green in 2010 just before the elections. His opponents wanted to hang him. This man wanted to drag them all to an open public place.

      Many doubt his sincerity

It is a dangerous move to appoint Sarath as the next Law and Order Minister. The man is dying to wreak vengeance on the clan.

There is no imagination in the words of Shyaman J, but the absolute fact .In Srilankans the truths are so twisted that citizens have forgotten and are very
happy with the fiction and untruths. Wrongdoings have become the truth and
the correct order of the day.

Unscurplous and surreptious ,scheming are the words to express in the formenr secratary of defence Go toabaya. His smile rebounds innocence but the ferocious attittudes are well concealed in a tough and vicious spiteful nature. If I have the opprtunity I will write about the absolute corrupt, Aaavant Gaurd deals that were in contovening with the Maritime conventions to combat sea pirates .very few experts know of this, and wont talk .

Unlike SF who does not mingle with words and does not attempt to hide his true
charahcter is open hearted . Only now as a politician he has learnt to utter the words with restriction unlike before. I am most certain that Sri Lanka could do a lot with the strong charchter like SF .

Dont forget how badly injured and hurt he was in
the war, It is a pity what the Rajapakases did to him , they destroyd the pride that should have been bestowed on a General who was so great . they got the public to laugh and scorn at him and treated him like a common criminal . we should be all
resposible for this . At least the public voted and threw out the ruffians who did this out of power.
But watch out – we are doing the same mistake again to invite the very same regime
to take over the country again . See my theory that the wrong actions become the correct ones and soon all forget what was the right thing to do .

One should also read the article- ”Blooming Errors In Sampanthan’s …….

Plead all younger generation to do the right thing for the country if you get another chance to give a vote.

    Thanks Gayan .

Here is some bad news for Mr Jayasinghe.
Military Intelligence Unit was not under Maj Gen Hendawitharana.
The General who was in charge of the Military Intelligence Unit when Mr Lasantha was killed was another dude who reported…directly to guess who/.
It is none other than Mr Shaymon Jayasinghe’s Hero Field Marshall Ponny.
    How cool is that…
I think it is not a bad idea to put the fella in charge of the Police to F**** himself.

    Shaymons
Why ask Sirisena to bring SF. Have you no faith in your lord and master RW. After all he is top class isn’t he Royal College, Colombo 7, coat and tie, something’s to aspire to for slavish rustic people dazzled by all these irrelevant signs of success.

    Shaymon u Jayasinghe
Which fantasy world are you live in. People of Sri Lanka ( away from the socialites in Colombo) are more worried about the cost of living and how they can put food on the table. If not would they have voted for the SLPP?

I have always said SARATH FONSEKA should head Law & Order , Justice or both ministries (if so conflict of interest). Ranil and Maithri are both politicians at the end of the day and will look after their interest before they see to the people or the country. They will protect their own and those who will keep them in power, however corrupt they are. We saw this in MR and see it in RW in the bond fiasco. If any politician today says they spent their money, used thuggery or even killed to become a politician to serve the people, then its a hilarious and another ‘first’ in Sri Lanka. Citizens of this country want a corruption free government and public service and the only way is to start cleaning from the top. SARATH FONSEKA is such a man who could clean both the corruptions of the previous regime and the incumbent regime. We the people ask both the President and the PM to appoint SF as the minister of Law & Order / Justice where the investigations of police dept and AG’s dept will come under his purview. He should have the fullest support to carry out his tasks independent of of political interference. PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY ARE WATCHING IF THIS WILL BE DONE AS PER PEOPLE’S ASPIRATIONS OR STIFLED BY THE PRESIDENT AND/OR PRESIDENT. The verdict of the next election will be largely on the outcome of bringing those corrupt to justice and recovering the loot stashed abroad (as your all echoed before the elections) to help the state coffers, without taxing the poor people and the business (private sector) as you always do.

Sj we all agree and if rw does not bring in fonseka as law n order minister say kaput to sri lanka. The prez is the obstacle but rw must now show thst his balls are real and get fonseka to fix these crooked bastards once and for all. Sw and rw would then be etched in history as the saviours of sl.

Another stupid ignorant Expatriate in love with the concept of a Colombo 7 Radala man is spewing garbage.

He is clueless. He does not know Fonny’s record. He forget RW and John Viagra Uncle both in Parliament said the Lasantha murder was Fonny’s work. We all know the kidnapping and sodomy of a top journalist was Fonny’s work. This sort of clueless Expat should not waste his time in Melbourne. He needs to come back to Ceylon and learn facts.

Brig Keppetiwalana, who was the 112 Brigade commander, who was responsible for Colombo operations and is a very very close loyalist of Fonny’s who reported to Fonny on Colombo’s security.

Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP lawmaker Joseph Michael Perera accused Fonseka in parliament of responsibility for Wickrematunge’s killing. At a time of war, such crimes were covered up as a necessity for national security. Fonny could not be charged because he was the key military man to defeat Tigers. The way he was murdered was stupid but he was believed to be a national security threat I guess.

Fonny was demented. All you UNP types here are clueless just like how you turn a blind eye to the report on Batalanda and Ranil.

When there is faith in God’s kingdom govt., there is NO FEAR of SF or even deity devils who need to be appeased. If things don’t work well, do a cabinet reshuffle. Why is power and authority given to leadership if they don’t know how to make right use.

Call it Law and Order or whatever but if Fonseka is placed in charge of the army, there will be hell to pay. Many in the army are waiting to take their revenge on Fonseka and he will be ground to the dust. There will be such a revolt from the army that all the YAHAPALANAYA bigwigs will be put behind bars. That will be a very bad move as he won’t last long. In fact I would love to see what happens.

Even if Sarath Fonseka is appointed as Minister of Law and Order, without Law and Order in the Government, what would be left is NO LAW and NO ORDER. Better not frustrate Sarath.
