  1. Indeed an interesting article. Love the flow of language. Content – very deep and meaningful – to the point. However, as you correctly have mentioned, it is up to the people of Sri Lanka to get to know this behaviour and do something about it. Basically, change the government, for as long as MR is the head, GR will be there. I don’t foresee this happening in the near future with Ranil hanging on to UNP leadership. Ranil, probably is the best president we will never have. But, he needs to realize it before he leads the country in to a situation where we have more Gotabaya Rajapakse’s.

    • Quite right! The Rajapassa Bros suffer from delusions of grandeur and a form of paranoid megalomania evident in the so called “development” policy of the regime which is in fact a development night mare and disaster. Today there is no rational development planning in Sri Lanka – since the Rajapassa brothers have no concept of real human development and have marginalized the experts and bureaucrats with the knowledge of local development priorities. Thus what passes for development are white elephant infrastructure projects for which huge loans have been taken to suit the megalomania of the uneducated Rajapakse Bros. while the country sinks in debt!

His role model seems to be Fredrika Janz. who is trying to vie for the positon of the most powerful person in SL . His language speakes volumes for his calibre. BS just back off and rest in peace in Australia. I doubt whether SL wants you at all .

  2. Dear Brian Senewiratne,

Thanks a lot for the thorough analysis. I share your sentiments.

GR is a big obstacle to developing a democratic humane post-war Sri Lanka. I agree.

However, now that you are done with GR, wonder whether you ever bothered to psycho-analyse VP while he was butchering Sri Lankans like chicken for 30 years. If so please publish your findings here on Colombo Telegraph.

Further, we believe it is high time you, Dr. Brian Senewiratne tested yourself as well.

You have proved to be a consistent defender of the LTTE around the world. We find it rather abnormal that a man of your intelligence will buy into LTTE’s extreme version of perverted Tamil ethno-nationalism. Plus an orgy of violence unleashed on Sri Lankan people as a means to realize that Tamil national romantic dream.

People who support that kind of thing cannot possibly be sane. The burden of evidence is on you to prove you are OK. Thanks!

    • Ben Hurling,
Successive sri lankan governments’ armed forces have been “buchering bunches of tamils ‘like chickens’” from soon after independence.

After many years of this, the planned islandwide antitamil pogrom in July 1983 caused the birth of the LTTE.
      VP needed no psycho-analysis.
      He merely responded in kind.
Many tamils whose kith & kin were buchered earlier by the armed forces, joined him.

      • “July 1983 caused the birth of the LTTE”? Joking?

No! Horrible July 1983 was ignited by the landmining of 13 airmen by VP & Co. on one spot in Jaffna. Sri Lanka had never experienced that kind of violence agaisnt the state before that. Any country would have done tit-for-tat racial rioting in such a highly charged situation. Look at Tamil Nadu now. How they treat SL citizens. People are people. Equally horrible.

Racists and criminals amongst us then used the opportunity to turn it into a horrible event for our fellow Tamil citizens. As a Sri Lankan I am committed to making sure something of that sort will never happen again in our land.

GOSL at that time played a terrible role in preventing and controlling the racist riot. Shame on them. We fell into VP’s trap like idiots. A terrible black mark on Sri Lanka history that will always be misused & abused by the LTTE Die-Ass-Pora forever.

LTTE tried several times later to provoke another Black July. But VP never really managed his disgustingly violent magic after that.

Ordinary Sri Lankans of all ethnicities no better.

        • Anit-Tamil riots were planned 3 years before it actually happened, burning of Jaffna library and leaking of Tamil voters list to mobs in Colombo a year before the riots were all part of it…

How do you explain despite the anti-tamil riots in 1956,1963 and 1978, tamils did not respond with violence, but an attack on soldiers made the sinhalese respond with terror?

        • Seeds of Tamil anger were sown when the Tamils who launched peaceful protests against the Sinhala Only Act brought by the then SWRD Bandaranaike Govt. and were also harassed by the Police and Military. This was followed by several other oppressive actions by the various Govts. And various other anti-Tamil measures caused the emergence of militancy among Tamil youths who were deprived of rightful opportunities. Other events followed. So the killing of the 13 soldiers was not the fore-runner for the 30 years war.

        • Ben, Re: ‘I am committed to making sure something of that sort will never happen again in our land’.

I don’t think you are going to have much success. There are some very powerful (though mentally handicapped) people on both sides with a vested interest in division and war. After all, can you not see from comments like those of Sam, Thamilini and Jegath, human rights abuses are only human rights abuses if they hinder your cause. Human rights abuses that help your cause are acts of bravery and self-defence.

We have a lot of Sinhalese and Tamil people, both in Sri Lanka and across the globe, who are very brave and gagging to self-defend. If there is no reason to self-defend, they will create one. that is their service to society. That is the speciality of the likes of VP, MR, GR etc.

Of course these heroes rarely end up in the battlefields, as they are our bravest, they need protecting. So they hide behind innocent civilians, including children and women, and pushing them into the front line, while living glorified lives of unlawfulness and corruption internationally or nationally. How can these people not be heroes?

Standing up for truth and justice is for traitors. And it is the duty of our heroes to protect our nation of traitors!

  5. Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) (aka Megalomania)

According to the World Health Organization, Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is described as, “A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (either in fantasy or actual behaviour), need for admiration, and lack of empathy that begins by early adulthood and is present in a variety of situations and environments.”
In order for a person to be diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) they must meet five or more of the following symptoms:

 Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

 Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love.

 Believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions).

 Rarely acknowledges mistakes and/or imperfections.

     Requires excessive admiration.

 Has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favourable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations.

 Is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends

 Lacks empathy: is unwilling or unable to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others.

 Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her.

 Shows arrogant, haughty behaviours or attitude.

Theodore Millon identified five subtypes of narcissist. Any individual narcissist may exhibit none or one of the following:

 unprincipled narcissist – including antisocial features. A charlatan – is a fraudulent, exploitative, deceptive and unscrupulous individual. (Pronounced as “JILMART” in Sinhala)

 amorous narcissist – including histrionic features. The Don Juan of our times – is erotic, exhibitionist.

 compensatory narcissist – including negativistic (passive-aggressive), avoidant features.

 elitist narcissist – variant of pure pattern. Corresponds to Wilhelm Reich’s “phallic narcissistic” personality type.

 fanatic type – including paranoid features. A severely narcissistically wounded individual, usually with major paranoid tendencies who holds onto an illusion of omnipotence.

My personal belief is that Mahinda Rajapaksa, his brother the Goat and Prabahakaran were all afflicted with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Theodore Millon identified five subtypes of narcissist, Mahinda Rajapaksa and his brother the Goat falls in to the category of,

 unprincipled narcissist – including antisocial features. A charlatan – is a fraudulent, exploitative, deceptive and unscrupulous individual. (Pronounced as JILMART in Sinhala)

    and

 fanatic type – including paranoid features. A severely narcissistically wounded individual, usually with major paranoid tendencies who holds onto an illusion of omnipotence.

Now the 64 million dollar question is, WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?
Short of a peoples’ revolution or the grim reaper having mercy upon us and giving Rajapaksa and the Goat what they deserve (like what happened to VP) I see no other solution to getting rid of this family dictatorship. Until one of the above happens, it will be business as usual and their dictatorial rule will continue for a couple of more years. :O

Dr. Senewiratne cherry picks whom he wants to diagnose in the public arena based on his political affiliations. In this case, GR a sworn enemy of the LTTE.

Dr. Senewiratne himself should get an assessment from a psychologist for consistently supporting VP and LTTE. Nothing but insanity.

  9. Commend TGTE Senator Seniwiratne the 80 year doctor who is still working hard daily, for this entertaining segment of Gotabaya R.

There is nothing new in what he has written, and the Senator is an expert on psycho analysis as his own son Dr. Romesh Seniwiratne has said of his shocking experience with his father even on this website. Gota must be thanking his lucky stars that the Senator is not his own father or else he would have been locked up in Angoda.

Gota has his faults and is certainly arrogant, drunk with power. His conversation with SL editor Mrs. Jansz was definitely inappropriate but highly over exaggerated. There was no confirmation of Sri Lankan airlines being booked to 100% capacity from Zurich, and as a retired pilot from the European -Sri Lanka sector I would say that pilot union do not get too involved in rostering and re positioning of air crafts, especially in this era of “White Vans” and State Terrorism.

Has anyone seen the Pilots Guild’s protest on these issues, and I feel bad for Gota’s niece and also the boy friend. The dogs carried on flights are not in the cabins and what role the pilots would have had with the dog seem rather puzzling. I guess this is where “power” gets into their head.

Gota, as US citizen is not the defacto President of Sri Lanka, and that is utter nonsense and hallucination. Gota has his own hawkish views and so did Fonseka when he was the army commander and referred to the Tamil Nadu politicians as jokers. But Gota and Fonseka are certainly responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sri Lanka, and when Tamils For Justice was formed and Bruce Fein was hired way back in 2007 to lobby the US DOJ to investigate the US citizens and resident, it was this very same Seniwiratne who was one of those who sabotaged the project. He has confirmed it in writing oublicly, rather proudly.

Now he is mourning about all the Rajapakses, when he was praising the LTTE and their advisers in 2005 for boycotting the Presidential elections and defeating Ranil as the opposing candidate. It is all in his dvd’s and he sent me an unsolicited one too. The good Senator blamed poor Ranil for the Karuna split, rather ignorantly and was a great cheer leader together with friends in Canada and USA, criticizing Ranil and praising the decision rather foolishly.

When both Lasantha and D B S Jeyaraj exposed the bribery and corruption the Rajapakses, Tiran Alles and Emilkanthan on behalf of the LTTE was involved he and Tamil friends dismissed it and even denied it. The Tamils need to accept that installing the Rajapakses in power was a big blunder and 100,000 Tamils were killed, and 310,000 were incarcerated under cruel and inhuman conditions in concentration camps.

So far, none of the various Tamil organizations are yet to file a law suit against any of the Sri Lankan born US citizens who are alleged for war crimes in Sri Lanka, in America where the US courts has jurisdictions. There are two US attorneys on the payroll for the past 5 years.

Bare words butters no parsnips, and what matters is real legal action, sanctions, boycotts and trade union action. Those days are fast approaching to see the day of light, and Rajapakses are now only visiting Sudan, Iran, China and Korea. Even president Rajapakse’s visit to India for 2 days is in doubt and has become a controversy as seen from Sushma Swaraj’s statement today. South Indian activities must be a serious concern to the GOSL and it cannot be resolved by issuing travel advisories, that would affect their own Sri Lankan airline’s passenger load factor and revenue.

Best Wishes to Senator Seniwiratne of the TGTE.

  15. Interesting views indeed. Nevertheless, what the country requires is quality independent cavil administration and an independent judiciary. In both instances, unfortunately this is not prevailing at present in Sri Lanka, and based on this, one gets the government they deserve.. Therefore, if the majority of Sri Lankans do not like the present government of Sri Lanka why did they elect them? In my view the onset falls on the majority Sinhalese people, because democracy is about majority vote, based on the numbers factor. Therefore if any one blames the majority Sinhalese people for electing the current government in Sri Lanka, it should be understood in its total or overall perspective because most of the LTTE leadership, especially in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka have joined the government. Therefore what is the future for minority Sri Lankans , including Muslims and all Sri Lankans who want an independent civil administration and a judiciary, for any country to be governed correctly based on justice, equity and a sense of fair play . I personally do not personal attacks, but if we all Sri Lankans do not realise the total position to the specific factors in Sri Lanka, our position as a civilised people will be questioned from objective minded people. Therefore having 2, 500 years of culture and heritage is meaningless, if we all Sri Lanka do not realise and understand this position

  16. Well said Mr Ramesh. The problem in the minds of many Sri Lankans is what is the alternative to vote in? When the Rajapaksa government was elected no voter imagined that governance would be so bad or that for the first time in the history of the world there would be 4 Presidents from the same family! and eventhe equivalent of Prime Ministers from the next generation. Having learnt that now, governance has hit an all time low in the mind of the masses, what is the alternative? Well many examples show that an opposition is not absolutely essential if civil society can play an interim role in bringing about good governance. Political change would then follow. However civil society too has not kept up to that role and is selfish and passive. yet one feels that now there is some turn around among quarters of civil society. May that be so. Whatever happens in the political landscape, governance has to be cleaned up and the country saved from the excesses of the ruing regime.
