Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that his heroism is reflected by the prolonged period he has taken to make a decision concerning his re-entry to politics.

He made this remark today in response to a query by a journalist during an event in the Abhayarama temple in Narahenpita. When he mentioned that he has not yet made a final decision on whether he would re-enter active politics, the journalist had questioned him as to why he was taking so much time and whether this inability to make a decision is befitting for him, who has been declared a hero. Responding to that question, MR had said, “That is heroism” at which point, a group of his supporters who had attended the event had cheered and chanted slogans demanding his return to politics. He had then pointed at the crowd and said,”You don’t need to ask this from me . . . the answer is right there. . .”
The former President had also said that that its important to learn from one’s mistakes, rectify them and ensure that even dissenting views and opinions are respected. When a question was posed regarding the allegations that have been levelled against his brother Basil for being responsible for the fall of his regime even by his allies such as Wimal Weerawansa, he had said, “That is his opinion, everyone is entitled to hold their opinions. We should respect others’ opinions and rectify our mistakes.”

I agree that he and his brother Gotabaya are heroes. They had the guts to stand against the whole world, including the Western nations and to take care of our little island and effectively knock off the terrorists.
