Brilliant Timing To Right Injustices To Palestinians

By Amrit Muttukumaru

Amrit Muttukumaru

Strategically there is no better time than the present to right untold injustices and humiliation heaped on the hapless Palestinian people. The main reason Israel has been able to pull off this injustice for decades is because of the mindless support given by the United States and European countries within the US orbit.

The US is today a pale shadow of what it was in the years of the cold war despite its double standards and hypocrisy even then. The US during the cold war in RELATION to the then Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies was considered the leader of the so-called ‘free’ world and a bastion of ‘democracy’. This runs contrary to rationality since one would expect the US to be weak during the ‘cold war’ and strong after the dismantling of the Soviet Union.

With US arrogance worsening after the demise of the Soviet Union and the dismantling of the Warsaw Pact together with the expansion of NATO, US hypocrisy and double standards began to be sharply noticed.

In the meanwhile Israel under the protection of the US and its allies in Europe and the Middle East – mainly Saudi Arabia believed it had the LICENSE to ignore the reasonable two-state solution and other proposals to bring durable peace on the Palestinian issue.

The injustices and harassment perpetrated on the Palestinians with IMPUNITY include escalating violence, continued OCCUPATION of Palestinian land and other violations such as  repeated desecration of holy places of worship such as the  Al-Aqsa Mosque under cover provided by Israeli security forces.

To no surprise condemnation of the current unprecedented attack by Hamas has come from the US and its European allies while measured/strong support for the Palestinians has come from countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Saudi Arabia which was controversially on the verge of bringing some ‘normalcy’ to relations with Israel has been compelled to state:

“The Kingdom recalls its repeated warnings of the dangers of the explosion of the situation as a result of the continued occupation, and deprivation of the Palestinian people of their legitimate rights, and the repetition of systematic provocations against its sanctities”

A statement from the Iranian government avers:

“We congratulate the Palestinian fighters”

“We will stand by the Palestinian fighters until the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem.”

Weakened US and its European Allies

1) The US and its European allies have been greatly weakened militarily and economically inter alia by their mindless support for a corruption prone Ukraine.

2) The US in recent memory has never been burdened with a cognitively and physically impaired leader such as Joe Biden. There are also credible allegations of corruption against him relating to the business dealings of his son Hunter Biden.

3) US democratic credentials are hugely undermined by a PERCEIVED two tier justice system – one for President Biden and another for former President Trump. This is exacerbated by a partisan mainstream media which is supportive of Biden. Trump is clearly not blameless despite his runaway popularity in the Republican Party which Biden does not have in his own Democratic Party.

4) The rising military and economic hegemony of China which is arguably a natural partner of a highly nuclear armed Russia.

5) If the US and its allies are going to be blindly DISTRACTED by their mindless support for a corrupt Ukraine and a belligerent Israel with its highly unpopular Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu facing allegations of corruption, one wonders whether the US has the wherewithal to take on China if there is an invasion of Taiwan.

6) It cannot be ruled out that Russia will take advantage of the current Palestinian situation to gain an upper hand in Ukraine.

I was drawn to this article for very many reasons, least of which is that it sort of mirrors my people’s plight.
Tamils of Sri Lanka are a pathetic lot. So are the Palestinians.
Hamas has displayed its resilience. LTTE has lost it’s shine!
    .
Now, let me read the article.
    .
The Israelis deserve peace. But, not at the expense of the peace of the Palestinians.
The US preaches byzantine ‘democracy’; US is not for a ‘free’ world.

There is no difference between Putin and the Israelis respectively Ukraine and Palestinain lands. Both believe respectively that the lands are rightfully theirs. In the case of the jews they claim that their god gave them the palestinian lands. Well in my view if this is so then their god also gave them Hitler and why complain about the Nazis.
A jew told me that now it is their turn to brutalise and treat others as they have been treated, This is effectively what the illegal settlers terrorists who deserve to be treated like all other terrorists are doing in occupied palestine, killing, burning looting palestinian property and stealing palestinian lands (all in breach of international law) while the world watches on and only condemns china, russia for breaching international law.
The isrealis are effectively being brutalised by the palestinians in the manner they have been brutalised for decades and deserve this treatment 100%. I once watched a documentary of food being deleivered into Gaza held up by the IDF (hope more are killed) and opened up to the hot sun to ensure that the food is partly rotten before it enters the Gaza strip.
The humbug of the two state solution while the jews terrorists are actively building settlements. Biden once went to Israel and asked Netanyahu to stop building settlements in occupied palestinian lands and while Biden was there Netanyahu announced new settlements.

      It is a strange analogy.
Putin is fighting single handed against an alliance of powers fighting a proxy war using Ukraine.
But Israel has all along been backed by the entire West, overtly or covertly.

      Hello Gus,
Like Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, I deplore the killing of civilians. She was quoted by Al-Jazeera “Like many, I am totally petrified by what is happening. I am totally shocked and appalled by the violence,”
The narrative, that because the Palestinians have been brutalised by the Zionist Israeli Government, then whatever is being done to the Israeli population is rightful revenge, is wrong. As Francesca said “But before anything else, I am horrified by the narrative, by the discourse, because it is possible, and necessary, to stand both with the Palestinians and the Israelis without resorting to ethical relativism, to selective outrage or worse, calls for violence.”
The expulsion of the Palestinians from their homes and villages in 1948 (an Nakba) – facilitated by the Western powers at the time, was tantamount to genocide. Unless the Palestinians are returned to their rightful homes, have equal rights in Israel and the Occupied Territories and have their own state alongside Israel – then the violence in the Middle East will continue. Unless of course Netanyahu achieves his ambition and in destroying Hammas he exterminates the rest of the Palestinian population.
      Best Regards

Pls Don’t compare Tamils and Palestinian, or Tamils and Israelis, reading from Mr. Muttukumaru, an empty vessel and UOJ Sadampi, the devotee of SLFP and Deva. For your Infor, these two opportunistic Hamas Soldiers never supported the freedom war of Tamils Eelam but lived in the traitor camps Aanduwa created. UOJ Sadampi is only a relentless, Tamils-Hater, for personal benefits. He is a policy less bluff. Don’t you remember folks like Sadampi, Prof Kumar, Muttukumaru group wrote that Russia is finishing Ukraine in an hour and the next blow is going to be in America? Now what? Russia, little by little descending to the 1989 pit. Even if Russia wins the war, and the West accepts that victory unconditionally, it is going to take another half a century for Russia to return to normalcy. Clearly, mark this in your head. “Ealam Tamils never in their history moved out of Ceylon”. They ruled over Ceylon until the Portuguese arrived. Once Buddhism was brought from Tamilnadu, a part of them learned it from their brethren and learned Pali too. The Sinhalese are “Pali mixed Tamil speaking” Tamils. Israelis were ousted by Muslims 1400 years ago. 50 years ago, they returned. They went West and lived there as Western citizens. But Racism separated them from the West and brought them back to Israel. So, they lost their full claim of their land.

Re your “Israelis were ousted by Muslims 1400 years ago.”

What on earth is yr evidence for this?

The JEWS (not Israelis) left what became Palestine, under the Romans. In fact, it is claimed that the few who remained, co-existed more peacefully with the Muslims there than under Christian rule anywhere else.

As for “their returning” 50 years ago, after 2,000 years, I doubt many of them would have issued from the small group that was originally displaced. There was pretty large conversion to Judaism down the ages. So I, for one, dont accept that Jews are a race, but a religious entity.

I wonder when Judaism entered Ethiopia. And why Israel is unhappy to accept African Jews. So much for equating Jews with race.

          • 3
            1

There was pretty large conversion to Judaism down the ages. How about Islam? Isn’t that excessive expansion aggravating the whole world and disturbing the world’s normal-usual business? Isn’t it the excessive conversion making the democratic countries mind their business and not willing to touch the difficult subject of Hamas ruled Gaza. Do Palestinian look for their support and other Muslims want to campaign for that in the countries they live in? For many years, in CT they wrote “America America…..”. Yes, it is true in a vague sense; in some UN resolutions, only America voted for Israel’s side. But now, can you name the countries on the side Palestine? Russia, Venezuela, Iran, Syria, North Korea, ……pls tell me something about these countries’ political situation & I like to hear your opinion about these countries to judge your opinions? Why are these countries manning for Hamas Gaza but not solving the problem in their countries? Even Langkang has given a reserved support for Israel and has opposed the start of the war. India went to the opposite of Gaza though it has the 2nd largest Muslim population. Major concern emerging now is that the UN and many others funded Palestine to be built up, but they bought a technology to fire 5000 rockets in a short while, to create a concentration that can diffuse even developed countries’ missile deterrent technology.

          • 3
            1

If Gaza can manufacture that kind of technology, don’t you think, in a week, they are going to beat Israel and build Independent Gaza Palestine. (I tell you, like British India went into three countries, the old Palestine is going to become three countries; Gaza hereafter, never going to cooperate with Westbank) Hamas is swearing that it will wipe out Israel. Sorry, that is going to walk the Westbank through many jungles for a long stretch, before it can get the IC recognized for its separate country status. Or otherwise leave it for Iran and Syria to solve it! What is there to worry about? Langkang spent $400B to fight against Tamils. Many countries gave free arms and loan money. Now the wind has turned the side, Langkang is poor after that fight. Its ability to manage developments is the lowest 10 in Least Developed Countries. Nobody wants to feed Langkang! Did Hamas keep its ears shut to world affairs while preparing for this fireworks extravaganza? Did they think the whole world is Modayas and going to line up right behind them setting these Chinese fireworks? Did Hamas leaders think about it too? Then what is it? Do you know that? Why do you think Gaza is the only Palestine, not the Westbank? Did Israel cut off food, water, and electricity to the Westbank?

I agree that the year calculation was wrong in my comment. I normally concentrate on putting forward a point. I am not a politician. Others’ opinions about my writing skill is immaterial to me other than about my points. So, I do not go back and correct every spelling in the comments. So, the date and places may not be accurate. The Point here is that those who were made as refugees in their country, long after, were brought back to Israel with the identity of the religion they practice. Outside of Langkang few people understand that in Ceylon, it is not the language nor the religion nor the race that is the problem. If anytime, the Tamil Buddhist Suren Ragavan gets caught on the road, unguarded, I am sure his religion or Sinhala speaking is not going to save him, but his Tamil ID will bring him demise. Who are these Sinhalese? Are they not Tamils, can you courageous write one day that there is no Sinhala Race? I guess you cannot, because the word Race is a Holy Concept? Why don’t you write about the Afghanistan Women or Ceylon MMDA, better subjects than Hamas Palestinians? Is that because it is not race related? Who are the ones fighting in Palestine for Palestinians?

          • 3
            1

Remember, everybody, including the Vedas, Yakas, Nagas all came to Ceylon from India, provided there were two separate countries from the very start (I cannot give you a date on that, but Pangaea is said to be the last supercontinent). If you are honestly displeased to hear you all are from monkeys, still you are all the children of Lucy. Then where does your race theory legitimize the deportation of 1 M Tamils from Ceylon, while all others remain here?

The ones expelled from Israel were Jewish. The ones brought back too were too. A problem happened to Jews long ago. A solution provided to jews much long after, based on the earlier connection. Do you argue that if some jews were in Israel when your so-called Europeans were brought to their country with the name of Jews, they would have rejected the new coming immigrants, just like now the Palestinians are doing, because they were Europeans, though they are practicing Judaism? Are you thinking that the rejected Jews in Europe must have been killed, should not have been brought to Israel, because they are neither Jews nor Europeans, because the Europeans have become as Jews. Or do you suspect that it was a drama of Europeans to steal Palestinians’ land by changing their religion to Judaism, and coming?

          • 3
            1

What I see is that you are still not uplifted to see that these are something we created and you feel we should even in casual discussions stick to them. I really don’t understand how your “theory of race” is affecting the situation here. To whom did the Israelis sell the land called Israel before they left for Europe and from whom the Palestinians bought it. Everything was decided by who kills the other higher. Or who can displace others with their convoluted arguments.

The Nobel Peace Prize 1994 was awarded jointly to Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin “for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East”. The problem there was that Israel is a democratic country. Power changes hands. Before anything materialized from there, Gaza was captured by Hamas. Would you argue it is wrong Israel being a democratic country or it is right Hamas capturing Gaza? We need to understand one thing, irrelevant to the fact Gaza lost its democracy, the two-state solution has to materialize, and the rest can be worked out later.

          • 3
            0

” But Racism separated them (Jews lived in Europe) from the West” Do you say Jews were not expelled from Europe because of racism and Judaism is not a race. Do you say racial prejudice doesn’t include religious prejudice? A very deep intellect argument! Could you rephrase that line and put it back here; I check it if it makes sense to me.

Manel, you need to understand one thing. This world is shared by many people, many races, many religions, many languages. Hamas is not a democratic political party. The democratic system is a very weak system. Democratic countries think the countries practicing democracy need to be protected for democracy to survive in their countries.
Citizenship is a special thing in a democratic country. It is issued by the people living in the country for the people coming from outside. So, even if the Jews came to Israel from Europe were the pure descendants of the displaced original Jews and Israel was populated by some jews, still they need not to share the country with the incoming in refugee Jews from World War II. So, when we put things out, we should not give importance to bogus systems and culture. Humanity is the thing we need to think about. I.c., who deserves and who doesn’t, by the contemporary need. So, Hamas doesn’t, Palestinians do.

“I wonder when Judaism entered Ethiopia. And why Israel is unhappy to accept African Jews. So much for equating Jews with race.

What is the evidence you have that only European Jews lost racial ID but the Ethiopian ones still maintaining the racial composition? Do you think Israeli Jewish race are the ones became Arabians in latter days too. Further I have explained earlier how the race and citizenship are related. India has many Jews. But Indian Brahmins’ habits and dressing matches Hasidic Jewish community. Those truly blood related, but like Ceylon Muslims copy catting Arabian Muslims. Beyond that Sumerians are closely related to Dravidian. This is white skinned curly haired people. The art work of Ajanta and Harapa artworks suggest these. Ajanta is a much late date. But the races in India still have not mixed much because the castism kept them separate. That is why the presence Jewish ID’s India are still can be clearly observed.

            Amrit Muttukumaru,
You seem to be too excited in marketing your ups & talents in the free blogging site. Well wishes!
I am surprised that CT is giving a forum for WORMS such you.
I am impressed by your intelligence to understand it, and I appreciate your humbleness in understanding that you are not the one deciding which worm post here, and which doesn’t. I hope that in time you will have caught up that knowing the word “Worm” is not enough to use it as a metaphor and knowing the nature of the worm is important too so whom it is more suitable to use. Otherwise, it will look like a monkey pulling the wedge out of a wood fissure, putting its hands and legs in that.
I said your writing are empty and noisy. I did not see you unconditionally writing for Tamils’ freedom, while arguing for others for sake being engulfed in the feeling of being in a heated argument. Your emptiness makes your mind respectfully think those issues are high-profile issues, and when you argue you have to engage in a heated argument ( where all Human right issues are equal). Heated arguments is not a synonym for talented, facts filled debate.

            4

Even the road rowdies and call girls frequently fall into heated arguments. Fox 5 Hannity is an excellent example. Please watch it frequently to understand that concept.
Then you wanted evidence for that. I can understand that the too much excitement has made you too blind not being able to see how noisy and empty you are in asking for that. I do not save or carry any essay to form the opinion of anybody. That is the case with you too. The best way to deal with the situation is if you give me a link to an essay of yours you believe that is full of points and expressions of Tamil patriotism, then I can point to you in that where you were missing your points. I read this easily and I have given my opinion on this and have highlighted some issues for the reason to come to that conclusion. It appears to be because your excitement is preventing you from reading it deep and bringing here your thoughts on those, like above, where Manel had done.
Another alternative is I can take this essay line by line and show the SW of it. But it is too late for that because CT might close it any time, after I work on that.

I still can offer you that kind of Analysis for one of your future essays. But you must explicitly request for that here, or in that future essay. The request has to be like in this form “Mallaiyuran How is my Essay, did you read it?” The reason is the site is not teaching or learning, it has been remaining reserved for political points discussion. So, I cannot break the general understanding, unless you show some inclination to learn things. Still there are some consolations for you. Please read back all the comments. There are two types of them. One, directly analyzing the Palestinian issue, as per their opinion. That is always usual here. The other is talking about your writing habits & skills. Those are the special ones. You may want to read them with special concentration.

Palestinian occupiers of Israel dislodged by Britain and offered back to Western, Jewish refugees. That was only because Britain had long rivalry with Muslim nations like Afghan, Ottoman Empire…. Muslims must start to appreciate other countries help & their life style and their jesters. Muslim Men, who married Tamil women in Ceylon, abolished their due Tamil “Thesavalamai” and enslaved the women under a never ever anywhere existed, MMDA. For this favor of Appe Aanduwa Muslim ministers became traitors in Eelam war against Tamils and in 4/21 against Muslims. Muslim Minister Donkeys must change their donkey policy. Now all saw what happened to Ahamad Nazeer, an extreme anti-Tamils & excessive torch carrier for Muslim Sinhala Appe Aanduwa. His story is told by two Sinhala Justices and Sumanthiran PC. Muslim Ministers must keep in their mind that when they stop the slavery to Appe Aanduwa, they are another Palestinians in Langkang. Ali Sabre will be told soon told soon no more makeup artist and no more free hotels in Europe and North America. With in four years, he went from SLFP to Slap Party to UNP. I am not telling Palestinians too practicing that. Palestinian leaders should have vehemently condemned when Charlie Editor was shot in Paris. Salmon Rushdie, attacks after Swedish Muslim burned Koran…. all only discourage the secular democratic countries coming and giving a hand in their trouble.

Why can’t Jihadi Sadampi go to Gasa and fight for Hamas? Muttukumaru is Shallow empty case. Don’t bring here Eelam war listing for him and UOJ Sadampi wishes. Palestinians lived in that now for millennia. Palestinians should be secured that place to live there by the West, who displaced them only in recent history. Mistakes happen, but the West must fix it. Prime Minister Netanyahu is a Donkey, did not win any elections, like our Evil. So, he is playing dirty games to hold on to power by playing the racism card. It is clearly demonstrated he did something similar to 4/21 in Langkang. Egypt and SA friendly countries to the West have told this clearly. Netanyahu, like the Old Rowdy Royals taking sovereignty & destroying Langkang, he too has dismantled Israel’s power balance. Hamas, who has no real connection to Palestine, has grabbed that opportunity to attack Israel. Innocent Palestinians are paying the price. Netanyahu is solely responsible for all the deaths in Israel and the innocent people in Palestine, except non-Palestinian militant organization, Hamas. Netanyahu has to be accused of war crimes, but that is not possible. The West must isolate Hamas. Palestinian must cut off the recent entanglement with Iran, and Syria. UN must mark the border lines and let Gasa and Westbank join again and come under PLO administration, their political party. Idiot Netanyahu separated them.

Do you really not know what the Intifada was about and what impact it had on Israeli behaviour?
There are short medium and long term goals.
Intifada addressed a particular medium-short term context, and achieved its goal.
The present one has a different perspective.

Whether it is two states or one where all Palestinian refugees can return home is matter that Palestinians themselves are debating.
Edward Said made a strong plea for a secular Palestine-Israel state.
That is a matter for the people concerned to decide.

I recently saw this in a comment section.
“Whenever Mr. Putin makes a speech, I listen seriously. Whenever Mr. Biden makes a speech, I laugh out loud. Whenever Mr. Zelensky makes a speech, I hide my wallet.”
    .
Re: Israel conflict: I am still trying to find the “missing piece” in Hamas’ invasion of mighty Israel. Hamas militants have fired 5,000 to 7,500 rockets within 20 minutes which is incredibly amazing and the attack has come from sea, air and land. The situation in Israel is still not under control. What happened to their extremely capable Intelligence services and the much hyped Iron Dome? And, the US intelligence? I don’t know whether I am imagining things, but something is missing here.

So far, Israel’s retaliation has killed hundreds of Palestinian civilians who had nothing to do with the Hamas attack. This reminds me of the Ukrainian military’s false flag attacks on their own civilians, particularly ethnic Russians, to coincide with the Ukrainian President’s “surprise” foreign visits and world leaders’ “surprise” visits to Ukraine for the purpose of attracting wider attention to those visits. In every such attack, they make it certain to kill a baby, toddler or a teenager. The Ukrainian military’s false flag attacks on ethnic Russians perfectly legitimate Mr. Putin’s claim to defend his people. Unlike Ukraine’s pre-2022 attacks in Donbass, these false flag attacks have been recorded by foreign journalists in Ukraine. It is absolutely certain that Russia will never leave annexed territories because if they do, Ukraine will annihilate all ethnic Russians in Eastern and Southern Ukraine.

        Hello Champa,
The Israelis do not try to hide what they are doing in Gaza. There is nothing “False Flag” about their operations to destroy Hamas (democratically voted into power), even if it means killing civilians in the process. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he was “deeply distressed” by the Israeli siege of Gaza that has cut off Electricity, Water and blocked Gaza off completely, even their coastline is blocked.
Putin has done exactly the same in Ukraine, however Ukraine did not attack Russia prior to the invasion and right up to the 24th Feb 2022 denied to everyone that he would invade Ukraine. He even gave a written (signed) undertaking, when Ukraine gave up its Nuclear weapons that they would not attack Ukraine.
The latest Russian war crime in Hroza village that killed 52 civilians in a cafe during a wake for a dead soldier was admitted by Russia’s U.N. ambassador, Vassily Nebenzia at a U.N. Security Council meeting. The café, which had reopened for the wake, was obliterated, and whole families perished. Is this another of your “False flags”?

    Mostly valid points.
    But for
“The US is today a pale shadow of what it was in the years of the cold war”
(That is rather overstated. The US is now conducting proxy wars everywhere not out of weakness, but in consideration of costs– economic and political –and the US public is a little too sensitive now to losing lives to fight a far away war.)
    And

      Hello comrade SJ,
I have first-hand experience of the sort of duplicity, misinformation and downright lies perpetrated by Stalinists of your ilk. I asked Jimmy Reid (leader of the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders), why during a strike that his members were building a bridge in the garden of the UCS Chairman’s house? His answer was “You are so far over to the left that according to Einstein, you are over on the right.” Reid subsequently went on to write for the right wing Scottish Sun newspaper. I also asked one of Reid’s (CPGB) supporters about Stalin’s genocide and the Soviet invasions of Hungary and Czeckoslovakia. He replied that “Stalin didn’t kill enough people.”
Well Putin is making up for Stalin’s lapse in killing people! I know that here in Sri Lanka it is difficult to get access to objective coverage of what is going on in Ukraine, however I am sure that you should be able to access Al Jazeera News. They are a pretty reliable source of information on both Ukraine and the Israeli subjugation of the Palestinians. Putin has the upper hand over Ukraine, just like Ranil has the upper hand over the IMF.

Lanka Scot, I find your comments on Palestine / Ukraine are most sensible. It never surprises me to see Lankans with no clue about the rights and wrongs in their own country rushing to opine on such matters, based on limited unreliable, biased media versions. There is nothing new in what Hamas and Israel are committing right now, all of which were committed by our own Lankan governments since independence. Including disenfranchising, discrimination, systematic organized cleansing, war crimes, economic blockade, illegal siege, indiscriminate bombing, destruction of public places such as schools, shelters, refugee camps, hospitals, taking hostage, disappearance, rape, murder, desecration, illegal take over of land / property, starving own citizens, pogroms, . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . with the help of U.S, Israel, Russia, Ukraine and many others. The ongoing gross injustice unleashed on the Palestinian people by Israel and its backers in the west is the underlying cause of the violence and conflict between Israel and Palestine. As more and more people in the west find out the facts about the Israel-Palestine conflict and the injustice committed against the Palestinians, it is becoming difficult for supporters of Israel in the west to defend their hypocritical arguments. Israel has been deemed as practicing Aparthied by their own leading human rights organisation, B’T Salem. Looking at the facts this is an accurate finding.

Power in the west still lies with the Israeli supporters but their shrilled defence of Israel is illogical and dishonest and hard to fathom for many in west who do not subscribe to the MSM version of the conflict. As a result many governments in the west are resorting to fascist means such as banning the pro-Palestinian BDS movement or calling for the ban of pro-Palestinian protests.

As usual, AM is conflating multiple issues, muddying his analysis, and ending up with nonsense.

America’s support for Israel has been wrong and misguided all along, but their support for Ukraine is not wrong; any corruption in the Ukraine Govt is not relevant to that issue. Biden’s age and his stumbles are not an issue either.

While Israel and the US are paying for their hypocrisy and double standards –their hubristic faith in their invincibility has been punctured–the Palestinians are nowhere close to getting justice. Indeed, the Israelis are reacting with rage, imposing a blockade of food, water, and electricity, and killing Palestinians in Gaza in genocidal proportions. How the Arab countries and countries like Iran, China, and Russia will react to that remains to be seen, but my guess is those injustices against the Palestinians will continue; in the face of the alliance between Israel and the US, the rest of the world will be powerless to stop it in the near future. Some day, their fortunes may change in unexpected ways. But that will be a black swan event.

Plenty of Americans are opposed to their government’s policies on Israel, but they are ignored in the face of the power of the Israel lobby, coupled with the irrational views regarding Israel held by Southern evangelicals.

Israel was created by the UNO solely because of the genocide of Jews committed by Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler. Millions were sent to gas chambers to die. There was overwhelming support to the creation of Israel. Palestine was divided 55% to the Jews and 45% to Palestinians. That was a fair deal. However, Palestinians refused to accept the deal and refused to recognize the Jewish state.

The Palestinians went to war with Israel and lost large chunks of land to Israel. They still refuse to accept the reality. The state of Israel has come to stay. Palestinians should accept this reality. Especially when several Arab states have recognized the state of Israel.

The latest attack on Israel by Hamas and retaliatory attacks that followed will only add more misery and pecuniary to ordinary people.

      Thanga,

It was part of the British colonial project to settle European Jews in Palestine. You should read more of their history, going back at least a century before the Holocaust to understand it. And that 45% bifurcated the contiguous territory of the Arab Palestinians and gave them two pieces. Whatever anyone thinks in hindsight, they were right to reject it at that time.

“Palestine was divided 55% to the Jews and 45% to Palestinians. “
Don’t you see a problem with that statement? How do you give 55% of Palestine to Jews, overwhelming majority of whom had migrated to Palestine from Europe? THAT is the underlying cause of the conflict, a colonial settler state that continues to oppress the indigenous people and deprive them of their land and basic rights.

Would you give 55% of your property to someone who lost his own?

Strange happenings. Even Saudi had started working with Israel. Iran could have been on Mars right now if not their hatred for Israel. Did the Gazareans feel left out by the rest of the Arab world? Or are the power-that-be putting a damper on too much Middle-Eastern unity. Of course there could be Russia taking it’s chance to have revenge on NATO alliances. Whatever it is, Gazareans continue to suffer like hell.

With all this violence and threatened violence, Israel and US are only taking their chance to grab more Palestinian land and terrorize Gazareans. Gaza retaliating back , and they take their chance to condemn Gaza as the greater evil. Diplomacy, democracy, and sharing of land and resources never came into it for a long time. But now, it seems to have happened with even Saudi beginning to work with Israel. But Iran, so far away, is perpetuating and escalating tensions.

Israel’s inhuman decision to completely deprive food, water and electricity to Gaza strip, which is home to poverty-stricken Palestinians, should be vehemently denounced.
For over 16 years, 2.3 million Palestinians have been illegally trapped in a 365-square kilometer land by Israel. The Gaza strip, which is called a “Third World open-air-prison” by western media, is blockaded with a barbed-wire fence and an iron wall with surveillance sensors.
There was/is zero objection to Israel’s open-air prison of Palestinians either from the United Nations or the US led West.
The entire Palestinian population in Gaza have been held hostage for 16 years by Israel while randoming bombing their houses and cutting off water and electricity with genocidal intent. Isn’t this a war crime and a gross violation of international law? The ICC issued a war crimes arrest warrant for Mr. Putin (Happy belated Birthday Wishes to Russia’s greatest leader. I wish him peace, love, good health and long life!!!) The ICC issued a war crimes arrest warrant for Mr. Putin for evacuating Ukrainian children from the battlefield to safety. But, Israel leaders were never held accountable for the crimes against humanity committed against Palestinians. Isn’t it time to “free Palestinians?”

“The main reason Israel has been able to pull off this injustice for decades is because of the mindless support given by the US….”

True, but perhaps there is another important factor. Interested CTers might take a look at ‘“Fortress Israel: The Inside Story of the Military Elite Who Run the Country–and Why They Can’t Make Peace” (560 pp.), by Patrick Tyler. He says: “Once in the military system, Israelis never fully exit. They carry the military identity for life.” He shows us how this martial culture envelops every family. Israeli youth go through three years of compulsory military service after high school, & acceptance into elite commando units or air force squadrons brings lasting prestige & a network for life. So ingrained is the martial outlook & identity, Tyler argues, that Israelis are missing opportunities to make peace even when it is possible to do so.’

I’d also like to mention another book, this time by a Jewish Israeli, Tanya Reinhart.
“Israel/Palestine: How to End the War of 1948” (2002/2005). She dissects some of the “peace accords”. One chapter is “The Oslo Years: False Expectations”. Another “The Camp David Negotiations: Myths & Facts”.

And while the western world, especially, is appalled by the latest Hamas attack, Reinhart’s chapter “The First Year: Israel’s Slow Ethnic Cleansing” (a. ‘The policy of injuries’ b. ‘The destruction of Palestinian society’) exposes a far more insidious, devastating attack on an utterly powerless people.

Since 2007, for 16 years, Israel has been constantly bombed and randomly cut off water, electricity and fuel to Palastinians who are concentrated in Gaza strip while influential Arab leaders strengthened ties with the US. It is an open secret that the US has been using and funding Israel to destabilize the Arab region. Since WWII, the US has granted Israel more than $260 billion as military and economic aid (Source: usnews.com) and did not oppose or use its influence to stop Israel massacring of Palestinians and expansion into native Palestine territories.
Palestine’s fight to regain their native land from Israel goes back to over 100 years. After failing all their attempts through diplomatic efforts, at United Nations assemblies, peace negotiations and peaceful protests in Western cities, they chose war. Currently, Hamas is Palestine’s only hope to live in peace in the cramped Gaza Strip and establish an independent Islamic State in their native land in the future.

Hamas is said to be created and initially funded by Israel itself. How it amassed weapons and ammunition especially during the Ukraine crisis is extraordinary. It is currently proscribed as a terrorist organization in the US, UK and EU.
In 2006, Hamas entered into mainstream politics and managed to secure majority seats in Parliament. However, Hamas’ Military Wing still resorted to barbarism although they issued a warning to Ashkelon civilians before an attack. The manner in which the Hamas Military handled women and children hostages in its invasion in Israel is unpleasant, disgusting and irritating, which is a downright disgrace to Paletine’s legendary fight for an Independent Islamic State.
In all fairness, the Commander of the Hamas Military should immediately release all women and children hostages WITHOUT CONDITION and fight the good fight against the oppressor, if they believe a military solution will solve the Palestinian issue. I don’t see any difference between Israel cutting off food, water, electricity and fuel to vulnerable Gaza Strip and attacking Palestinian civilians incessantly, and Hamas Military Wing using women and children as bargaining chips. They both are disgraceful acts of cowardice.

Israel has decimated religious places, refugee camps and civilian buildings in the Gaza Strip and is now preparing for a ground invasion to annihilate Palestinians. Even Palestinian civilians who are hiding in bomb shelters will be killed. What has the Arab world done to stop Israel? Nothing. Only the Turkish President has warned Israel. He has brilliantly explained how Israel forcibly occupied Palestine and established new settlements.
It is more than obvious that Israel will occupy Palestine’s last strip of land, too. Will the Arab countries remain silent until then? Hamas may try to stop Israel, and there is also a possibility that Israel will be attacked from 3-4 fronts. There are 25 Arab speaking countries. Why can’t they get together and issue a collective warning to Israel and the US to save the Gaza Strip? The US responded to the Gaza-Israel war by sending a warship and a plane full of weapons in support of Israel and warned Hezbollah and Iran (not by name) not to join Hamas. Why not? Because, Israel is the USA’s new proxy war and doesn’t want it to be a full scale war.

Are you sure you know what you are talking about?
You say, “…..their (Israel’s) operations to destroy Hamas (democratically voted into power), even if it means killing civilians in the process.” Well, well, not long ago, Sri Lanka eliminated a terror group called LTTE and the UNHRC passed several resolutions denouncing it a war crime!” Right here is hypocrisy and double standards at its best.
If Russia kills civilians, I condemn that too. Hiroza is not the first time Ukraine used human shields for military purposes. On August 19, 2023, Ukraine organized a drone exhibition with the participation of Ukrainian military officers in war-torn Chernihiv and tipped off Russia knowing fully well that Russia would attack the venue. It also coincided with the Ukraine President’s visit to Sweden, Netherlands and Denmark. Russia should stop falling into Ukrainian tricks and make sure not to attack places where civilians gather.

Have you ever heard about “Minsk Agreements 1 and 2” and the reason for Ukraine signing it? Do some research, then you will find this.
      1. Ukraine is not innocent. It did the same thing Israel did to Palestinians.
      2. In 2014, Ukraine cut off water supply to Crimea.
      3. In April 2014, former Ukrainian President Poroshenko formally declared war against Ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine which continued until February 22, 2022. During that period, Ukraine killed over 14,000 ethnic Russians including 240 children in Donbass.
      4. Eastern Ukraine was deprived of food, water, medicine, electricity and education for children, and, ethnic Russians were confined to underground bunkers for 8 years.
      5. In addition, on March 24, 2021, the incumbent Ukrainian President signed a decree declaring war against Russia.
      6. Within one year, Russia not only liberated DPR & LPR, but also restored water and electricity supply to Donbass. Schools, children’s parks and new hospitals were open. Fully furnished new houses were built. Existing roads were repaired and new roads were built. What Russia did within one year, 25 Arab speaking countries couldn’t do for Palestine for 100 years!

“Well, well, not long ago, Sri Lanka eliminated a terror group called LTTE and the UNHRC passed several resolutions denouncing it a war crime!”

Present day Muslims population lived in Palestine for more than 1000 years. Sinhala Buddhists did not know the direction of North East until Britain left the country. “Ceylon was declared by Britain independent under a democratic constitution. That constitution explicitly had a section preventing Sinhala Buddhist oppression over Tamils, knowing the nature of the Sinhala Buddhists. You removed it using the majority. Tamils, on that day had withdrawn from Ceylon and had formed Tamil Eelam. So, what SJV did in 1972 gives the right for any Tamil who has the art and talent to liberate that land will own that land.
UNHRC has not just put war crimes on you. But has put Economic crime too. According to that you destroyed 11 million people’s economic means to their life. So, your crime is five times larger than what Israel is doing to Palestinians. If you get into the hands of a person who knows the art and has talent, you will be punished for that too.

Given what Israel is doing in Gaza I thought you guys would like to read this excerpt from the Jewish Virtual Library. Its about Jewish resistance in WW2 and its consequences. The irony.
    .
‘For others, deciding not to commit suicide but rather to make an attempt at survival amidst the hopelessness and despair of this situation was their resistance. Those that resisted more actively found that any success resulted in unintended consequences since the Nazis practiced collective responsibility. If a Nazi soldier was murdered by a Jew, not only was that Jew executed, but also his family and perhaps a hundred others. As a result, few Jews carried out active resistance from fear of reprisals.’ https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/the-white-rose-a-lesson-in-dissent-2
