By Vishwamithra –
“Let them think what they liked, but I didn’t mean to drown myself. I meant to swim till I sank — but that’s not the same thing.” ~ Joseph Conrad
The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) survived the demise of Rohana Wijeweera, its charismatic leader. Despite the failure of two explosive uprisings engineered by Wijeweera himself and his murderous politburos, aimed mainly, one against a center-left and the next at a right-wing government respectively, the JVP managed to come to the top of the people’s choice after renaming the political forces that the JVP originally created. The new identity is National people’s Power (NPP). The objective conditions on both of those occasions were not conducive to a revolutionary replacement of the government at the time. Karl Marx‘s sterling analysis of historical evolution of the working class could not have been more accurate.
However, the second or more accurately, the third coming of the revolution assumed totally different characteristics and dimensions. Aragalaya-22 in opposition to the perverse and obscene abuse of power by the Rajapaksas was too much for any sociopolitical circumstance to avert; a crisis of which the birth, its evolution and its own resolution came to a climax with the departure of he then President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa from office. An uprising by the people, either violent of otherwise, can generate the desired results if such an uprising could be sustained for a reasonable amount of time and intense emotional surge.
Nonetheless, after Anura Kumara Dissanayake‘s election to office and his NPP gaining control of the legislature with more than a two thirds majority of MPs, the people’s expectations reached a new high. A system change that was pledged on the election platform appeared more doable and within reach. Yet AKD and the new government had to operate within the confines of given circumstances and a given framework of the Constitution of Sri Lanka. Although the possibility of changing or introducing new amendments to the existing Constitution was very much in the realm of the real, AKD and the government chose to stay within the existing frame of governance.
In the context of the NPP’s broad ideological allegiance to Marxian-socialist thinking, it would have been totally unthinkable for them to tread along a path of quasi-capitalism in which the notion of ‘profit’ is the key and critical driving force behind the pursuit of economic goals of the country. Yet, AKD, being a very rational and pragmatic thinker, after assuming the controls of the switch of Executive power, had to adopt fresh methods of satisfying not only his immediate entourage of JVP power-brokers, he had to think and act in consonance with the broad needs of the masses who elected him. Those who elected him did decide to do away with the status quo, yet they did not vote for him to breach their trust that was eminently resident in broad democratic principles and policies.
The trust and faith the masses reposed in democratic principles were not unconditional, yet they did not desire to cross the notorious line of violence and discarding of the old in an absolute sense. In other words, AKD and the NPP were faced with performing a brand new experiment with the sociopolitical, cultural and economic life of the nation. There couldn’t have been a more onerous task than that.
When SWRD Bandaranaike was elected in 1956, his revolution was basically a one of cultural one founded on language and ethnic genre. Secondly, SWRD’s task, for all purposes than one, was decidedly subordinate to AKD’s ventures. Of the two, AKD’s authenticity and commitment to the cause is far superior to that of Bandaranaike. Bandaranaike’s hypocrisy was more than evident on many occasions. Sending his children to overseas schools while preaching local education to the children of the land and being completely unaccountable for many a misdeed and political malpractice by his Cabinet Ministers were a few. The broad masses were no more hoodwinked by his superior oratorical sills and it was evident in the fact that even after his assassination, his ‘common man’ party was defeated at the next general election in March 1960. Only his widow Sirimavo gained power in the election in July, 1960 election, entirely on the sympathy issue and she being portrayed as a graceful woman of the twentieth century-Ceylon.
Nevertheless, coming back to AKD and his NPP, the factors that influence and guide the modern Sri Lanka are much more intricate and complex. The birth of the social media has fundamentally changed the way one sees and feels the events and personalities that govern our existence today. SWRD could be playing billiards at the famous Orient Club while the country was aflame with ethnic fires in ’58 and even thereafter; AKD can hardly afford such luxuries of spare time or leisure indulgences.
That is why AKD has to learn new subjects such as economics and taxes; not what he has learnt in school or University. He has to learn these new subjects, not at a superficial level, but rather profoundly and meaningfully and convey his understanding, his polices on such matters and his methodology of execution and monitoring those policy directives to the country.
AKD stands alone amongst the current crop political leaders in that sphere. Before AKD, only tow first-level leaders could address experts expertly; Dudley Senanayake and JR Jayewardene. However, at the next level, there were no more than three. They were Felix Dias Bandaranaike, Gamini Dissanayake and Lalith Athulathmudali. Al these five men could tackle any subject at any level and convince an audience. All five had the education, discipline and ability to communicate their understanding and policy directives to the people at large and any expert audience who had the patience and desire to listen to them. To be included in that exclusive club, AKD is deservedly privileged and he is capable too.
Yet, all the previous five, Dudley, JR, Felix, Gamin and Lalith may have failed to deliver the ultimate goals for the country’s advancement, both economic and sociocultural. But in that narrow scope of terrain of being able to study a subject and convince an audience or an electorate, they could be classified with AKD. One might ask why is R Premadasa omitted from this group. Yes, R Premadasa himself was a self-made, self-educated man with enormous potential to have been a great leader. But in the writer’s view, Premadasa’s motivation was much too narrow and too self-centered than the others I mentioned. Premadasa’s indulgence beyond the realm of reasonableness and compassion made him a very cruel and nasty leader. Despite the massive media operation he ran around himself, he remained the only leader after whose assassination the very people whom he was supposed to have helped came to the street and celebrated his death with fire-crackers baila-dance. No person deserves such nasty reaction from his or her own followers.
AKD’s speech which is under review today is one of extraordinary clarity and purpose. His analysis of the issue, its potential resolution and his commitment to see an end to this nagging problem of corruption at all levels of governance is remarkable. The very statistics he used to drive home his own arguments for greater devotion to an incorrupt society went beyond all expectations. It looked like a professor teaching to a classroom of brilliant yet undecided students. Will the professor succeed, not in convincing his students and the greater audience at large, the masses, but fundamentally converting the unconverted, reforming the unwilling and both metaphorically and in literally to be practitioners of an incorrupt and incorruptible society? That, of course, is an impossibility. But we must decide to tread that path. The commitment of our political leaders and their very sociopolitical postures do matter.
With all his candour and apparent authenticity and empathy, AKD has failed to allow the masses to identify the government and its policies independent of AKD. For them the government and its policies tend to start and end with AKD. That, of course, is a dangerous formula for abject failure. The NPP and its government must be able to sustain itself beyond AKD. This same problem occurred with Premadasa in power. His MO was more sinister and cynical of the decency of democratic way of ruling. Has AKD succeeded in portraying himself and his government beyond the superficial, mundane and un-nuanced operations of statecraft?
Asking the people to bear the brunt of taxes and convince them that their contribution to the economy goes beyond mere taxes and law-abiding is an unforgiving demand. Taking them as equal partners of the running of the machinery without making it look suspicious with ‘people’s committees’ (Janatha Committee) of the Sirimavo-NM era is a hard undertaking.
And on the most momentous issue at the moment in Sri Lanka goes beyond just economic inequality. It is racial and ethnic discrimination and its defacing, vandalistic and malicious behavior in public and in private. What has been lingering in the annals of our short history since Independence, ever since 1947’s first parliamentary elections, all our Sinhalese leaders have deliberately followed policies of discrimination and ethnic malpractice. The plight of the Northern brethren is as bad and as miserable as it was with the majority Sinhalese rural masses. Yet the proverbial ‘ball’ has always been in the Sinhalese’s court. It was they who wielded power and it was they who declared policies and principles of governance. And it was their policies that lent themselves to the creation of tension and mistrust and lack of faith in the system as a whole.
Can AKD lend the same energy and commitment to the resolution of this deep and soul-destroying issue? Can it be solved once and for all, at least that would last a couple of centuries so that there is no mistrust, lack of faith nor air of suspicion between the two communities living within the same island and under same sky? AKD has not yet reached that brutal sphere where his words would not carry any meaningful weight. Can he convince the majority Sinhalese to compromise on the issue of ethnic equality and ethnic harmony. Not just words and superficial accords and meaningless agreements or memoranda of understanding (MOUs); policies and their enactments which will change century-old attitudes and mutually disadvantageous and mutually destructive conduct.

This is the first article of Vishwamithra I ever read with interest! Reason: Its Title, – Can The NPP Survive Beyond AKD?
I am quite confident that AKD himself must have asked this question many a times in the last six months.
Where do we look for an answer?
More importantly, in finding out if NPP is living up to peoples’ expectations.

Nathan,
“Those who elected him did decide to do away with the status quo, yet they did not vote for him to breach their trust that was eminently resident in broad democratic principles and policies.”
Do you see any logic there, Nathan?
Anyway, I am glad that AKD has not gone the way of the Master of System Changes, the Great Gota. That would be a difficult act to follow, so many Viyathmaga clowns from Padeniya to Cabral. Mad monks and nutty Professors. What a ride that was.

AKD has not changed the JVP one bit yet and is unlikely to do it ever.
The JVP presented him to the electorate as its most presentable face but without changing its opportunist politics.
An aura has been built around him and how long the shine will last is to be seen.
For those seeing in him a potential Fidel or Che, disappointment awaits.

It is you again!
Who are those seeing in AKD a forgotten Castro, to break the bankrupted the Langkang, additionally? You and your shadow? What an imbecile statement, man!
Dear comrade, while you were hallucinating in the Velanai Kottle, the NPP was campaigning to restore robbed Langkang, based on market economic principles. Lenders and IMF’s stipulations and conditions are accepted by NPP, to delay the repayment of the robbery loans of the Rowdy Old King and Evil Emperor. These loans were obtained from India, Paris Club, China and additionally some private investors, of Sovereign bondholders. Cuba never marketed any bond shares on behalf of Langkang Royals. Only big countries’ capital markets did that. I never did know that Che Wijayaweera sold any bond shares through Paris, London, Munich, New York, Dubai stock exchanges for Castro. It seems to appear that you are not really an illuminator but an illusionary, hallucinating that if you state some stupid things, people going to consider it their Economics, Finance guru revealed golden words, so all that going to be recorded in the History Book of Langkang ……… People voted for NPP on the understanding of the market economy character will be preserved while systemic change taking place. You and your shadow were not in Langkang when these were happening.

The most amazing miracle is by the grace of your God, (The drunkard, drug addict, sycophant Marx) you are still alive. All other communist faces were genocided and transferred to the other world, at the end of the last century. But with the inborn duplicity, you can perform magic by showing the tail to the snake and the face to the fish. You would beat Ahastiya, who is said to have lived for 5,000 years, and lasting on the earth by your duplicity talks. Che was much more lucky, because he was shot and dead and did not need to bear long, unending pain, but your local Che Wijeweera was thrown in the crematory alive, after one full day torture by Evil, whom AKD beat in the election to get power. Anyway, Che Wijayaweera’s death is the emblematic character, the UNP SLFP Union attempted to hide and preserve from the world, by resisting power changed by democratic election. It is obvious from the action of your stirring the neighborhood’s cesspools that you are looking for a peal out of those. No mention needed that you’re over-interpreting the saying that: “the red lotus flowers only in the dirt pool”. Sorry man, the swamp you’re in to swim was drained and dried by the end of the last century; there is nothing in that anymore.

Vishwamithra, Ridiculous to think that Karl Marx’s historical evolution of the working class is the key all have been waiting for. Karl Marx himself escaped to London, the capital of what he hated most, survived there with his wife and family and had the freedom too to complete his Das Kapital and the Communist manifesto in the world’s recognised city practicing capitalism. How ironic is what followed after that too, where he was buried in High Gate Cemetery in North London.?
/
LankaScot / June 4, 2025
Hello DTG,
The Communist Manifesto was commissioned by the Communist League, Written by Marx and Engels in Brussels Published in German first and Printed in London in 1848. Marx moved to London in 1849 where he started his research for Das Kapital at the British Library; the first Volume was Published in Berlin 1867. The subsequent Volumes were published posthumously, Marx died in 1883.
Read a little History of those times before you pontificate on Marx’s supposed hatred of Capitalism. Marx saw it as a Historical Process that would, through the Intervention of the Working Class, lead to a truly Socialist (Communist) Society in which the State would wither away.
I read the NPP Manifesto and I didn’t see any reference to the “Dictatorship of the Proletariat” but I did see this “No citizen/community should be subjected to humiliation, oppression, degrading treatment or injustice on the basis of ethnicity, language, religion, caste, sex or any other grounds”. Many things in their Manifesto are wishful thinking, however I agree with most.
By the way it is Marx’s Atheism that makes your Brain Squirm and propels you to reproduce outright lies about his (fabricated) conversion on his Death Bed.
Best regards
/
davidthegood / June 4, 2025
LankaScot, what rubbish are you talking, that Marx, through the intervention of the working class, brings in socialist communist society, where the state withers away. Mad about Communism it looks like.
/
LankaScot / June 4, 2025
Hello DTG,
Like SJ, I begin to doubt your level of understanding. You failed to understand many points –
1 – The Communist Manifesto was written and Published before Marx arrived in England. If you do a little studying on the events of 1848 and the Conditions in European Countries you might begin to understand why Marx ended up in England
2 – I addressed the Marxist Position on the Role that the Working Class would take in the Formation of a Classless Socialist/Communist Society.
3 – Marx analysed Capitalism, hence the amount of time he spent working on Das Kapital in the British Library, he didn’t “hate” it.
4 – I also pointed out that the NPP Manifesto was not a Socialist Revolutionary Document. There is nothing in their Document that calls for the Replacement of Capitalism.
5 – You still haven’t addressed your lies about Marx’s conversion on his Death Bed. Look up the meaning of “Evidence”in a Dictionary
Best regards
/
davidthegood / June 5, 2025
LankaScot, what happened personally to Marx is obvious or he could have been punished in his own country. But London, the capital of freedom, he would have definitely experienced. So don’t put again communism on him after he managed to write some books and earn some money to feed his starving family through his communism. His death bed we hope was godly or he would have gone to hell, as the final judgement belongs to the Creator God Jehovah and man’s free will.

The Gnostics, Muslims, Jews and Arians have always disputed the Christian Trinity. Modern Christians believe that Jesus (despite being called the Son of God) is God. “Marcos and Duterte are back”
Where? When? I did not come to know that news yet. Are you sure that it is a true news piece, not some loonies’ story telling? Did you hear that Sankara said the jaundiced eyed one, seeing a garland in the dusk, feared a snake? Is it possible that your source is not misidentifying Nelson to Duterte?
“Just months ago no one expected AKD / NPP to be in power. That is only a mild truth, but the strong truth is “just months ago no one expected an election would be conducted” because the wild elephant Evil sitting on the power has been even ignoring the supreme court orders. Threatening the supreme court justices to call to parliament and undress them. Have you heard of even Marcos doing that?
” As long Kapputas are around, parties like NPP will survive. Just months ago, no one expected AKD / NPP to be in power”. Thanks to at least, even reluctantly, the NPP cannot be a party in the UNP-SLFP union. But that is only, like in the Tamil saying, “Yes, I fell down in the wrestling match, but my mustache did not get dirtied.” Sorry, that is not the rule that decides the winning wrestling match!

What is the point you are trying to bring out by: “because of Kapputas, NPP is surviving”?; because who was there, your enemies Kapputas came to power? Can you establish that it was not UNP Kadies. LTTE killed Valaiththodam Sr. and Sinhalese celebrated that with fire crackers and Kiribati. Do you have anything to comment on that? You seem to be not aware of something important that it was Kapputas installed lifetime defeated Evil to replace them and thus it was Evil lost the EP seat and Diyawanna Lake Palace to NPP, sorry not Kapputas. There is not anything of Holiness in UNP Kadies that is not present in Kapputas. Politics which receive credits from sour mouths bound to bite sand, Honest hearts must promote true leaders for the betterment of the country. Only that kind of politics works for the people. Not the ones with naive challenges.

Chiv,
In Sri Lanka, anything can happen as long as the media mafia (visual media) does not take over the public’s side.
.Although it is even worse than in the US, some people will compare it to that vox news there.
–
For their own self-interest, they install themselves as Sri Lanka’s leaders. Sirasa TV is completely biassed and works exclusively to support the NPP.
–
Even though they use the title in public, they are not true investigative journalists.
–
Above all, before the NPP was elected, there was little public discussion of the party’s capabilities.
–
The false public perception was produced because there was no more significant difference between the anecdotal news disseminated by YouTubers and that of mainstream media TV channels (Derana, Sirasa, Hiru, Swarnawahini, OR other Wanamohini style TVs). People believed that Dr. HARINI Amarasooriya would perform miracles. She is exactly the same as that clownish woman, Kottachchi, today.
Anything that the NPP leaders and their amusing cabinet do today ends in failure because they lack competent advisors and senior men to mentor them, and they are rude to men with more experience. They were overrated.

Jesus Christ is forever Triune God with Father and the Holy Spirit and will never die and when he returns for his church, you an unbeliever, is going to see stars. It’s encouraging that there are several educated young people – male and female, in the hierarchy of the NPP who are free of bribery and corruption allegations. If AKD and the NPP can achieve 50% of what they have set out do, the country will be on a good footing for the foreseeable future.
/
Douglas / June 5, 2025
“Can The NPP Survive Beyond AKD. The Cult May Destroy The People’s Victory?”.
AKD is the only “a person “on whom the people entrusted to lead a team that would completely change the political culture of corruption, nepotism, and mismanagement, and the system of Governance that existed to cater to an elite class. The people overwhelmingly booted out that class and the system in 2024 at the Presidential and Parliamentary elections. This is what AKD and the team must bear in mind at all times. If not, nothing is left to talk of “Survival” that the writer is questioning. Also, let me remind the writer, it is not a “CULT” but a people’s mandate handed over to a “Group” or a “Team” (not to one AKD) to make a change and complete overhaul.
I do agree with the writer in saying – ” The commitment of our political leaders and their sociopolitical posture do matter”. So far, the team in the Government has not shown much disappointment in that “Posture,” considering the enormity of the commitment at hand and the time that has lapsed so far. It is too early to question both the “Survival” and the “Collapse” of the peoples’ victory. We are watching!

“Can The NPP Survive Beyond AKD?”
How old is AKD? How many NPP governments have already failed. How many times do people vote them down after they send the NPP for its first government? Can you compare this with that the Old Rowdy could not win his first government without Leader Pirapaharan stall the North East voting, because he could not appreciate Tamils helping neither candidate for the EP position, which will be ruling Tamils too. How long has the Slap Party government survived without Old Rowdy in the EP seat? The UNP could not survive under the Evil Emperor at all. When considering the answers to those questions, he/she would wonder if the author were from Langkang to ask such a question. Remember, NPP has more than enough votes to cancel all the elections and extend their government for unlimited time or if they bring an election law, they can deny the voting rights of their enemies in that election. Don Stephen stopped the Estate Tamil voting because they may be voting for LSSP. Then would there be any moral defect if AKD disables any non-socialist voting in the next election.
Throughout the article the author has not shed any light on the future of the country or the future of NPP, not even of AKD, based on past history and the current trend on that.
/
Mallaiyuran / June 5, 2025
Then, why did he ask that question? Just like some other narcissistic authors of CT, this one too struggles to place his name placard as high as possible, with layers of words not providing any points.
“The Cult May Destroy The People’s Victory”
Sad to see the author believe that the People’s victory brought only this cult to the podium. But then why worry about the cult survival anymore? He looks like he wants to predict everything possible from minus infinity to positive infinitive so that anything can happen, but that will be one of his Baba Vanga predictions.
If there is nothing to write within their reach, some invent artificial headings like this and dump all blah blah. Sinhala Buddhists Intellectuals have learned nothing from their 75 years of failure. The NPP learned from its very 7 ½ months first government. Many MPs and ministers have publicly accepted that if they mess up, they will lose the next election. Few were banging on the NPP’s inexperience to win the upcoming elections. But they did not win any election, but the NPP kept winning all the elections, which the NPP conducted without any fear. The Author’s ability to compare people is well demonstrated in his comparison of Dudley with Junius Richard. Barbarian Junius Richard was a good match for Criminal Master Solomon West Ridgeway Dias. Dudley could not handle even Siri Ma O.

Cicero / June 5, 2025
Vishwamitra has written a thoughtful article. The government is very much a one man show but it is showing a commitment to change things. There is a definite reduction of corruption and the old corrupt politicians are being slowly brought to courts. But, difficulties remain. The IMF prescriptions relating to electricity tariffs will bring grief. Going the IMF way will have to be rethought. It has not worked in other countries. There must be a reexamination of how to deal with debt. V. identifies the ethnic issue as central. Wijeweera and the old JVP was anti-Tamil. This suspicion lingers. Again, AKD has done much to change the pattern. The Tamils have not responded well. They elect a
half-wit to Parliament whose only purpose is to stoke the fire. They must act by bringing definite policies to the front rather than engage in personality politics, rabidly repeating the Bandaranaike way of showing who is the most rabid of all. The problem has to be solved by the Sinhalese who started this. But, washing off 70 years of indoctrination by Sinhala chauvinists will take time. Young Sinhalese know that Sinhala Only will not feed them. They see the need for change. There is hope.

” There must be a re-examination of how to deal with debt . ” This is
what the NPP said they will do once they Catch power . The magic is
very simple , ” Increase Dollar Revenue .” Import restrictions can save
dollars but it won’t work . AKD had a ” wonderful formula ” for dollars ,
Export Value Added Products . He was so sure he can handle it . All we
have to do is produce value added products and sell them to him for
export . Only he saw a huge market for our Quality Products . Rajapakshas
brought the country to its knees and Ranil foolishly went to bed with them.
That is the main reason people rejected them and the NPP knew people
have no other better choice but them . And now people are gradually coming
back to their proper sense to Lose it in the Next available Election .
Wonderful World , Wonderful People . Luckily Buddha is safe as he is no God
to save them . Help Help ! Ayuto ! Suwasariya please !

Cicero: There is no way to rethink IMF propositions. A valid agreement and a related “Finance Act” have been passed by the Parliament under President RW. In terms of these legal provisions, the IMF is imposing a condition that electricity rates be aligned on a cost basis, and if that is not done, the 4th instalment will not be given.
Do you see how the IMF has been given the authority to decide the fate of Sri Lanka?
/
old codger / June 7, 2025
Douglas,
A government with a 2/3 majority can roll back any Finance Act. The mistake the JVP made was in promising to do impossible things to gullible voters.
If the government really wants, it can repudiate the IMF, impose full austerity, cut salaries (to reduce cost of exports), ban imports of practically everything, impose exchange control, etc. But will the voters like that even if the IMF gets thrown out? I think not.
The NPP should not have let its demagogues decide decide economic policy.
There is only one way to avoid the IMF, and that is to live within our means . I don’t think even you might like that, Mr. Douglas.
/
Douglas / June 7, 2025
OC: “Live within our means.” That is what we were doing decades ago. Beginning with JRJ’s “Open Economy,” our people got accustomed to living beyond their means. That was the beginning of the end.
You questioned me – “I don’t think even you might like that”?. I have done it and continue to do it. That is the secret behind my freedom, contentment, and happiness, including my family.

Hello OC,
“I don’t think even you might like that, Mr. Douglas.”
–
Why do you tell Mr. Douglas, “even you”? Out of 6800,000 voters, he specifically chose the NPP despite their lack of a suitable agenda to govern this country, whose present issues are based only on the recovery of the collapsed economy.
Does a father ever assign his very young adolescent son (very immature) to manage his business?

Furthermore, Douglas is one of the CT commenters who promoted Thamabuththegama Deyyo without having completed any appropriate profile study.
–
Surprisingly, Douglas is now completely silent about hatch tags like “323” and “Release of a Prironer” in Anurapura, as are the other laundry men running YouTube channels.
–
It’s possible that previous governments were somewhat corrupt. But is the present government free from corruption? The problem is that the current government’s transparency and accountability are more akin to those of Kim’s dictatorship in North Korea, even though it may be partially correct if corruption is defined as anything that is solely based on financial resources.
Don’t worry about Mr. Douglas, OC. KADAMANDIYA people are advising him, just as inexperienced fools are advising Thambuththegama Deyyo.
Despite their acerbic rhetoric, the man who came to rid this nation of widespread corruption and poor governance has ended up being the exact opposite. How could he have released a prisoner with such a criminal history?

The current men can still enjoy the music thanks to former President Mr. RW. However, the harsh and immature responses of the current men, who are aware of the financial burden on the ground, plan fun activities for a plane that has allegedly been leased recently and keeps it in the lower altitudes of the Colombo sky, which is more expensive for the state but serves to deceive the foolish country into believing that it might be a true “victory” for the sinking nation. My goodness, where are we marching today? How foolish is the leadership?

” Can the NPP survive beyond AKD ? ” Vishwamithra is looking for reader’s
prediction I believe . Already there are signs AKD can not beat JRJ & Co
open economy foundation . And the opposition looks set to face the govt
with reasonable force . About more than two decades back , while C B K was
in power , her uncle Anuruddha Ratwatte was arrested and held in custody
for twelve days . According to reports , she phoned her PM Ranil to avoid her
uncle’s arrest but Ranil was reported to have said there’s nothing he could do
about it as it is a police exercise . So , arresting and holding in custody of a
senior member , relative and a close confidante of a president did take place
under other govts . Nothing new , but the dwellers of the paradise known with
short memory syndrome , are easily taken for a ride by very cunning hook or
by crook guys in politics . But Money will not flow in to a country by hook or
crook business . This is exactly where the NPP and AKD are stuck in . So they
are under illusion that Silva will enjoy catching thieves and disciplining
the dwellers at the cost of increasing other difficulties . Silva wants a life for him
and the country is not his business .

Arjuna, a Tamil MP, has spoken up. Today, the NPP was put in danger after spilling the bean. He asks why Tamil people consider those who fought for them to be true heroes, while Sinhala people are unable to name their soldiers who lost their lives in battle after “their heroes.” MP Arjuna believes that because some weapons that belonged to the remaining older orders were brought into the nation, those containers and their contents were concealed. But it has been further concealed by the new government, which is more accountable and transparent.

Vishwamitra.
As a citizen who values democracy, I find it deeply troubling that the you would imply AKD might take an authoritarian path, especially after coming to power through one of the most democratic uprisings in our nation’s history.
The NPP and AKD were not handed power—they earned it through the people’s will, following decades of broken promises by traditional parties. Suggesting that a government with a democratic mandate might turn authoritarian is not only crude but deeply irresponsible journalism.
Instead of suggesting outrageous acts, you should respect the intelligence of the voters and the democratic process that brought this change about.
Like LM always tries to point out, it looks like you are just as corrupt as the people you are pointing fingers at, you are either trying to incite an unwanted turn of events or you are on the payroll of some corrupt group of people. So keep the banter to yourself for now. No need to do other peoples bidding.

I don’t subscribe to blind reverence for authority—I’m not wired for subservience. Unlike you, I don’t shy away from asking tough questions, and I certainly don’t fear honest answers.
.
History reminds us that during colonial times, slaveholders justified slavery by claiming it was divinely sanctioned, even inserting it into the Bible to discourage resistance. That narrative led to the exploitation and forced relocation of over 25 million Africans.

When I notice something that doesn’t add up, I confront it head-on. I refuse to remain silent or timid while injustice or inconsistency goes unchallenged. Unlike you who tucks your tail between your legs and gets dumbfounded like a little bitch.

Vishwamitra rose to fame after writing that the only way to get the AKD and NPP into power was to support them.
The majority of his presumptions were founded on false information that circulated in Sri Lankan media.
Apart from his incisive rhetoric in and out of parliament, did Vishwamitra or other mainstream media journalists investigate Anura Kumara D’s personal abilities and capabilities?
