“In order to produce something new, you have to return to the original source, to the childhood of mankind.” ~ Paul Gauguin
They are not just meandering on deserted streets; nor are they lying down listlessly in a corner or on a broken culvert waiting to be picked up by their parents who would be on their way back home. The parents are not in the land of the living. They are not well-fed, they are not fed at all, maybe for days and weeks. When the truck appears on the horizon, they ready themselves with their empty pots, pans and buckets to collect whatever is thrown at them from the truck. No, I am not describing a lamentable story of fiction. This is the real life that is being suffered by many in Gaza, the homeland of Palestinians.

Palestinian Ambassador Dr. Zuhair M.H and President Anura Dissanayake
A pathetic human drama is being enacted before an unseeing world and it has not yet captured the audience it is supposed to impact when these cruelties, man’s indecencies to man, man’s inhumanity man and man’s slaughter to man are perpetrated. Such a cruel world is being bequeathed by the present generation of humans upon our children and their children .
Emaciated figures which once roamed the corridors of crowded Gaza are now crowding near food trucks carrying food parcels for the consumption of hungry children of a once-affluent, once-educated and once-middle-class Palestinians. Israel, their tormentors are now planning to annex the Gaza strip to the ostensible ‘land of milk and honey’ whose armories are being equipped and augmented by the unkind West led by America. America was once being portrayed as the guardian of the oppressed and needy; she herself has been branded as the ‘land of the free and home of the brave’. Now they have chosen to buttress the greed and thirst of Israel, the alleged home of the Jews. The ‘land of the free and home of the brave’ is losing her freedom and looking bluntly unbrave and cowardly.
No person earth could deny the unspeakable torture, suffering and death brought unto Jews by Hitler and his cruel cohorts during the Second World War. But that suffering, that torture and that death do not justify what is being handed to Palestine and her citizens by the very people who endured unspeakable suffering in Dachau, Buchenwald and Auschwitz death camps. It did happen and it was an unerasable stain on mankind. But switching the ignoble conduct of one nation with another cannot be allowed to repeat when the tormented has now become the tormentor.
Israel making herself the undisputed villain who would satisfy the sadistic characteristics of one man who calls himself Netanyahu, simply cannot be pardoned. There is no Mandela any more; there is no Gandhi or Martin Luther King Jr. any more. The world is bereft of such giants whose only armor and armory were an unclouded conscience and a genuine affection and allegiance for peace.
There does not seem to be any end to the wailing of hundreds of thousands of men, women and children. It is written that ‘God’ of Abraham, if there were ever one, would be turning in his grave to see one of his children’s chosen people have chosen to be so callous and insensitive to man’s basic needs to coexist with his fellow men. Kingdoms on earth do not follow such Biblical fantasies. Kingdoms on earth are increasingly dependent upon oil and arms that protect it.
USA, the strongest military and economy in the world is thoroughly oblivious to the crying eyes of the children of Palestine. Her priorities are at present centered on satisfying one single mad man. That is Donald Trump, her Commander-in-Chief. A dangerously disconsolate politician, Trump is driven by his own megalomania, and the more power that is seemingly invested in the office of Presidency, the more insensitive and callous an outlook he assumes in order to buttress his own position with a glowing aura and luxurious comforts the office bring forth.
Human history, in its vast and complex journey, has reached an uncommon installation; its further development and continuation, if it were ever to materialize, depends mainly on the fluttering of the moral compass that it has been carrying all her time in her reach towards perfection. It has never been an effortless endeavor. Its demands and challenges have, more often than not, subjected man to near extinction. Yet man has survived and picked himself up after each fall to attain nobler goals. Science has been the only rational religion, except perhaps unadulterated Buddhism, that man has embraced after questioning each turn of events.
Civilization has its zeniths and its collapses; man has landed on the Moon, but is yet to find a medical answer to deadly malignancies that visit man at each phase of this marvelous journey. Countries win wars and they lose some of them too; those who survive the wars march on despite sustaining several dilapidated systems. Leaders at each defining juncture, rise up and yet again fall to rise again. Individual sustenance has an unequal capability to withstand criticism and vitriol hurled at it time and time again.
Those leaders who had the that ‘grace under pressure’ to lead in spite of radical and unprecedented circumstances have always been those who had within themselves what is call a ‘moral compass’ to guide them at the right time and right place. It is the individual who defines and shapes the circumstances rather than the other way about. But such leaders are few and far between. Rarity of such individuals adds a premium to the sense of sacrifice and devotion to truth and honesty. It is extremely hard to even name ten such greats in human history. While religious leaders may take the primary positions in such a scale of measure, those who followed science and more secular lifestyles still dominate that ‘few’.
The current world situation is rammed in a stagnant premise from which extrication seems increasingly difficult as days go by. Being polarized along ‘haves’ and have-nots’ lines, extreme religious fundamentalism tends to overwhelm the average mind. That average mind has no time for nuanced aspects of human existence. Poorer nations suffer from a drastic dearth of wealth and capital to emerge from this doggedness. For them, entrenched in yearly or half-yearly basis of accountability to their lender countries, a priori assumption of their own geopolitical realities. Small countries and small economies, such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar and most of the African nations fall into this pit of penniless many.
Standing against these vulgar realities, where else can Sri Lanka look to? Once considered an ardent leftist coalition of a movement, National People’s Power (NPP), was catapulted to power by force of circumstance. Although Aragalaya-22 played a very decisive part in creating the right objective conditions, the subjective leadership of Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the NPP, allowed himself to embrace the right set of ideas and a more pertinent school of political thought to transform a center-left polity to vote for a far-left party. That in itself is a marvelous recovery from oblivion.
Furthermore, AKD’s success and that of his government’s is not winning an election; his real success is averting further decline in our economy and following several of the marketplace-oriented economic policies which NPP’s predecessor JVP would have rejected without a second thought. Now the usual cabal of pundits and academics is trying to keep a scorecard of NPP’s performance in the six months they have been in power. While it is not all that unusual to engage in such an unwarranted exercise, it adds to and subtracts from what is under way behind the actual eye can see and ear could hear.
That is why we must pay our attention to what Rachel Maddow, the MSNBC Television anchor termed as ‘watch what they do, not what they say’. Taken in an American context, she was referring to the crazy enactments of the Trump Administration after sugarcoating the draconian aspects of its policies and governing principles and what really entails at the end of the winding route Trump is taking America.
When applied to Sri Lankan context, the positive profile of the saying ‘watch what they do, not what they say’ stands out most stridently. If one observes President Dissanayake, he seems to say and do the same. But what is lacking or what is most conspicuously absent is the evident commitment from his immediate cohorts- his Cabinet and other parliamentarians.
Any reference to the Palestinian crisis by our government is of no value in the context of the gravity and vastness of the international pressure brought upon Israel and her main protector USA. Other than issuing perfunctory statements at the (ir)relevant UN Agency meetings, Sri Lanka’s participation in the broad discussion of the Palestinian issue would be redundant. However, intervention by various human rights organizations, both official and informal, no major country including China, India, Russia and European Union has proposed any drastic measures such as broad sanctions against Israel are being stipulated.
In short, today Palestine is in search of a foster parental country or countries. To find herself in the catalog of orphans is indeed a telling commentary of the times we live in. There is no Non-Aligned Nations organization today. NATO seems to be the only working ‘pact’ that is in operation. WARSAW is dead and the Soviet Union belongs in the dustbin of history. Military conflicts are being conducted between countries that are belligerent to each other for one reason or the other. India and Pakistan, both being nuclear powers are merely clashing without serious military of political consequences.
Israel’s inhumanity to Palestine occupies the main seat in the boring chambers of international conventions. It’s worthy of repetition: ‘watch what they do, not what they say’.

Vishwamithra, why on earth did the Hamas terrorists financed by Iran, start this war by attacking Israel, killing a vast number, taking another large number to hold as refugees for bargaining, raping women and killing children on the feast day of Israel while in their synagogues praying to God Almighty for their future. Gaza belongs to the tribe of Judah,(Joshua 15,47) robbed by Mediteranean giants of Goliath family, worshipping Dagon. The date was October 7th 2023, and the world was horrified. Trump then became USA president whom God protected from 3 assassination attempts. Watch what follows to these terrorist nations as the future unfolds.

Hello DTG,
Telling your lies again, the Philistines were in Gaza in the 12 Century BCE at least 500 years before Joshua was written. The Palestinian problems didn’t begin in 2023 or 1967, and even preceded the Nakba in 1948.
And stop repeating your Israeli Hasbara lies about raping women. Israel funded Hamas for many years in order to stop a 2 State Solution.
I wrote this back in Jan 2024 – https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/israel-versus-palestinians-thank-god-for-south-africas-boldness/
“The Israeli Ambassador in the UK has claimed that “every school, every mosque, every second house, has an access to tunnels…” When challenged by the presenter “That’s an argument for destroying the whole of Gaza, every single building in it.” – Ambassador Hotovely replied that there was not “another solution” to achieving Israel’s war aims following Hamas’ October 7 attack”. Israel has done just that and more.
Look at Gaza now and tell me it’s not a Genocide. Did you invest your 30 pieces of Israeli Silver or give it to your Church?

I don’t think trying to reason with a blood thirsty rabid fanatic like dtg will yield any results.
He is clearly a person with a serious mental health disease.
He should be locked up in Angoda and his comments given to the doctors as evidence to diagnose and treat his madness.
High voltage bolts of shock to his brain could be a way out, if that doesn’t work perhaps a good exorcist should be called in with enough holy water to flush out the devil in him.
If that doesn’t work, the only other way will be to send him to the stake like in the olden days and finish him off there.

Hello Human Touch,
Speaking of Exorcism, I went to see the Film The Exorcist in Dundee (1974) where some of DTG’s buddies (Catholic Priests) tried to stop me entering the Cinema, telling me I would go to Hell or be possessed by Demons. When I told them I was an Atheist and that Demons were imaginary, they looked shocked and moved out of my way. Maybe my Cloven Hoofs and Alexandrian Horns scared them away😉.
“A letter was issued by the Bishop of Dunkeld to clergy in the diocese, including Dundee, restricting their attendance at cinemas”.

.
The Exorcist was a classic film that spawned several sequels. In truth in the Catholic Church, exorcism is a specialized practice for addressing cases of alleged demonic possession. In Sri Lanka, we have Buddhist priests who perform similar rituals. Locals in Kandy will tell you that there are “devil dancers,” known for conducting ceremonies to cleanse those believed to be possessed.
.
DTG is not Catholic. In my view, he’s a Pentecostal, aligned with a new-generation African church influenced by the American prosperity gospel — or at least an affiliate. That combination is a sure fire money making enterprise.
.
This should explain his fanatical Zionist leanings. Their narrative is hollow and illogical; even some Orthodox Jews dismiss the notion of annihilating Palestinians to grant Jews exclusive claim to the Holy Land. Yet certain misguided Christians embrace it wholeheartedly due to convenience and desperation, as it is some poor Palestinians who have to pay the price.
.
People like DTG have been indoctrinated to accept whatever their pastor proclaims. Poverty and desperation can drive people into many things. In his pursuit of prosperity through his church’s devilish teachings, his moral compass has been overturned.
.
The best way go get him to snap back to reality would be what I recommend in that sequence.
.
There is a slim chance that whipping dtg mercilessly with a horse whip could detach the demon in him if he is lucky.

It is true. No body deny Israels or USA’s inhumanity to Palestine people. But what can bankrupt Sri Lankan’s can do to solve this problem when the Super Powers like China or Russia can’t do anything. Sri Lanka’s inhumanity to its own people who speak different language and different religion of the governments is also occupies in the boring chambers of international conventions. A beautiful richest country in the 1940’s now brought to the level of bankrupt to beg around the world through racism and religious terrorism. Why can’t Sri Lanka become an example of how to solve our problems through get rid of racism and religious terrorism towards a richest country in the region again. Why do we need to depend on these countries and international powers to solve our problems?

Palestine issue is not a recent invention. It is there for so many years. Russia and China are the countries economically and politically and militarily powerful as USA. Why can’t they use their military to Palestine to fight against Israel?

You mean THIS Hamas?
“For years, Netanyahu propped up Hamas. Now it’s blown up in our faces
The premier’s policy of treating the terror group as a partner, at the expense of Abbas and Palestinian statehood, has resulted in wounds that will take Israel years to heal from.
For years, the various governments led by Benjamin Netanyahu took an approach that divided power between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank — bringing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to his knees while making moves that propped up the Hamas terror group.
The idea was to prevent Abbas — or anyone else in the Palestinian Authority’s West Bank government — from advancing toward the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Thus, amid this bid to impair Abbas, Hamas was upgraded from a mere terror group to an organization with which Israel held indirect negotiations via Egypt, and one that was allowed to receive infusions of cash from abroad.”. Times of Israel
How about this then?
“”Netanyahu rejected ceasefire-for-hostages deal in Gaza, sources say
Israeli PM said to have turned down proposal in early talks and continues to take tough line.
Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a deal for a five-day ceasefire with Palestinian militant groups in Gaza in return for the release of some of the hostages held in the territory early in the war, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.
/

The Palestinian Authority was a severe let down of the Palestinian people.
Abbas amplified on the blunders of Arafat in his later years.
Hamas was not created by BN. He saw his opportunity in Hamas, but things developed differently. Hamas became the true defender of the Palestinian people. Th US always despised it.
Hamas won the Palestinian Assembly vote with an overwhelming majority in Gaza. The corrupt PLO was unwilling to respect a popular verdict.
It suits the Zionists to discredit Hamas at this moment when Hamas and its allies are the real threat to Israel. That also helps the PLO which cannot stand up to the Zionists.

The five-day ceasefire thing is an old story and Israel had their reasons for rejecting such a ceasefire. I am talking about the present, the release of all the remaining hostages and a permanent ceasefire, not a “five-day” ceasefire for SOME of the hostages.
According to a PBS NEWS report dated 3 August 2025,
“Hamas has long called for a comprehensive deal but says it will only release the remaining hostages in return for the release of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel, a lasting ceasefire and an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The militant group has refused to lay down its arms as Israel has demanded.”
We also heard recently the additional Hamas condition of the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state before it disarms. And we have Canada, UK and now Australia to thank for that (for announcing that they are going to recognize a sovereign Palestinian state).
So I repeat what I stated: This “inhumanity” could be ended immediately if only Hamas, who started it all, would release the remaining hostages and lay down their arms. Hamas, the aggressor, is responsible for this tragedy 100% and they have absolutely no moral right to dictate terms to Israel.

Hello Leonard,
After all the Lies that Netanyahu has told and the Genocide perpetrated by the IDF that all can see, you still believe them. The vast majority of hostages that were released was by negotiation. The IDF even shot dead 3 of its own Hostages in cold blood waving white flags and talking in Hebrew. They killed Ambulance Medics and even buried the Ambulances to cover it up. But they weren’t thorough enough, they left one of the victims Phone in his pocket. He had recorded what had happened until his last breath. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g2z103nqxo

Seems you have a problem with comprehension. It was the war criminal Bibi who propped up Hamas, and he has used them as the justification to collectively punished 2.2 million civilians for decades, and commit war crimes.. This did not start on 7th October, Palestinians were ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED for nearly 70 years, and besides the Palestinians have the right to RESIST according to International Laws, and the genocidal nation is ILLEGALLY OCCUPYING Palestinian territories.
The genocidal nation has one of the MOST UN resolutions against it.
ILLEGAL
“There are reasonable grounds to conclude that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory is now unlawful under international law due to its permanence and the Israeli Government’s de-facto annexation policies, according to the first report to the General Assembly issued today by the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel.”
LEGAL UN
“The right to resist is a human right, although its scope and content are controversial.[2] The right to resist, depending on how it is defined, can take the form of civil disobedience or armed resistance against a tyrannical government or foreign occupation; whether it also extends to non-tyrannical governments is disputed.”
Stop justifying the killing, injuring, displacing, starving, and the theft of lands.

Hello Leonard,
“This “inhumanity” could be ended immediately if only Hamas …”. No it wouldn’t; way back when the Israeli Bombing of Gaza started after Oct 7th, I said then that Israel’s objective was to clear Gaza and resettle it creating a Greater Israel “from the River to the Sea”. Listen to Smotrich “Israel is “finally going to conquer the Gaza Strip,” said Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich” – https://www.hrw.org/news/2025/05/15/gaza-latest-israeli-plan-inches-closer-extermination
Even the New York Times is finally reporting what is really happening. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/29/world/middleeast/israel-gaza-jewish-resettlement.html.
Did you not see the Assassination of the Al Jazeera Journalists in their Press Tent outside Al Shifa Hospital? The Israelis do not want the World to see what Criminal Actions they have taken and will take. This is revenge for reporting the truth. They do not allow the International Press to report from inside Gaza. I am aware that you might not believe a Palestinian, but how about a British Doctor? – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqtxG19QuFM – “A British doctor who was working in Gaza has told Sky News of the horrific scenes witnessed by her and her colleagues”.

Hello DTG,
The Philistines (Peleset) arrived in around 1200 BCE. “The land they inhabited was called Philistia in Hebrew, and later became known as Palestine in other languages”. Joshua was written about 600 years or so later during the reign of Josiah circa 600 BCE. The Philistines were defeated, not by David but the Neo-Babylonian Empire under Nebuchadnezzar II in the late 7th to early 6th centuries BCE. They were assimilated into the Assyrian Empire and later the Egyptian Empire. So the land was never stolen. There is very little historical Evidence for King David and even that is disputed.

There are wheels within wheels here.
The corrupt PM is desperate to stay in power, and is doing the bidding of his right wing ministers (called terrorists), who have been clamoring for nuking and bombing Gaza into rubble, and he is doing it because he wants to stay out of jail, and waging this war on babies and women is the only way.
19,000 plus children now killed.
Trump and his son in law are desperate to build their resorts and gaudy towers over the blood soaked land in Gaza. They have publicly stated so.
The Western and many Arab countries are working with the genocidal nation covertly, some sending the deadly weapons and parts needed to “finish off the job” and some nations in the Middle East who want to sell forbidden fruit grown in stolen lands in their supermarkets, and host the war criminals after their exhausting bombing of hospitals, schools, UN shelters, aid workers, and journalists.

Both Israeli and Ukrainian Presidents are hated by their military and the citizens alike. The reason there weren’t mutinies against them is that they both let the military make money from the war. In Ukraine, from foot soldiers to the top military brass sell weapons in the black market. Even other law enforcement officers make money from terrified citizens who want to avoid forced conscription and also from the Ukrainian government for each forced draftee. Ukrainian school children are grabbed from cars to be sent to the front line. Stadiums, bars, restaurants, subways and concerts are raided by the Ukrainian draft officers to forcibly draft men while their mothers and wives are crying and protesting. Sixty year old men and women and even disabled people are sent to the war to fight against Russia’s professional military. In July, there was a story about a Ukrainian mother who died while trying to prevent her son from being taken by the draft officers. Very sad!

I am no fan of the US or many of the European Leaders, but Ukraine would not be in this position if it kept its Nuclear Weapons. Your reply to my comment is irrelevant. If the US President Donald Trump stops the Ukraine and Gaza wars, I have to grudgingly agree, he fully deserves the Nobel Peace Prize and much more respect from around the world.

Hello Champa,
King Donald is on a slippery slope. He enabled and supplied all the Weapons used by Israel to commit Genocide. He stopped the Attacks on Iran because Israel was suffering badly, however the US and Israel may start again soon. Iran’s Nuclear Programme has hardly been affected.
Putin has him over a barrel, did you see Lavrov’s CCCP teashirt? The middle finger to Donald and Zelensky.
Best regards

For the past 77 years, all US Presidents, including Donald Trump, have supplied weapons to Israel to wage proxy wars against West Asian countries. Notably, Donald Trump is the first US President to appoint a “Peace Envoy” to explore the possibility of ending the US’s proxy wars.
.
What’s wrong with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov wearing a sweatshirt with letters CCCP, the Old Church Slavonic Cyrillic version for USSR? According to Britannica, “Cyrtilic alphabet is currently used exclusively or as one of several alphabets for more than 50 languages, notably Belarusian, Bulgarian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Macedonian, Montenegrin (spoken in Montenegro; also called Serbian), Russian, Serbian, Tajik (a dialect of Persian), Turkmen, Ukrainian, and Uzbek.” If you have forgotten, Lavrov is an old school Diplomat.

You must be living in cloud cuckoo land!
Is not he the one who formally endorsed moving the Israeli capital to Jerusalem, something that no president before him avoided?
BTW
The point about the CCCP is not the script but that it stands for the USSR.
Don’t jump to hasty conclusions.

Hello Comrade Champa,
Lavrov was deliberately winding up Donald (and the Ukranians. Putin has said many times that he thinks the end of the Soviet Union was a disaster. It would be like a Tourist arriving at the Culloden Site with the name of Butcher Cumberland (William, Duke of Cumberland on his T-Shirt.
Putin also wants to restore an Empire like Peter the Great. Read what Aleksandr Dugin has to say. Putin is a great admirer of Dugin. I don’t always agree with Anne Applebaum, but she is very precise in her Critiques of Putin, try reading her books.
Finally remember Trump’s threat about a Ceasefire; TACO Trump again. What has Putin got on him (Epstein connection ring a bell)?
Best regards

Did you actually analyze the very successful outcome of Donald Trump’s Alaska 2025 “Pursuing Peace Summit” or are you parroting the version of Western media who are the biggest losers of the Alaska peace summit?
.
Did you know that Mr. Putin agreed to freeze the frontlines in exchange for full control of Russian-majority Donbass Oblast, where the Ukrainian military and American-trained Azov Nazis committed war crimes from 2014 to 2022?
I am surprised and amazed at Mr. Putin’s easy and swift concession and his offer of a direct route to end his special military operation in Ukraine rather than seeking out short-lived ceasefires that only prolong wars. Maybe, he wanted to reward his US counterpart’s genuine efforts to end the US’s proxy war in Ukraine and restore peace in the region and also as a goodwill gesture between two nuclear superpowers. But, I have questions.

What about Kherson?
In 2014, Ukraine built a dam across the North Crimean Canal and cut-off water to 2.5 million population of the Crimean Peninsula. On February 25, 2022, Russia took control of the area and restored water to the peninsula. What is the guarantee that Ukraine will not cut-off water again? Besides, once the war is over, Azov Nazis in Poland and elsewhere will return to the area. How would Mr. Putin guarantees the security of the Russians in the Soviet Union-gifted Eastern Ukraine?
.
Russia has been deceived by the US-led NATO in the past.
1. The US breached the promise given to Gorbachev in 1990 that NATO would not expand towards Eastern Europe.
2. In 2008, NATO manipulated Ukraine to apply to join the bloc.
3. In 2014, a US-backed coup in Ukraine ousted the Russia-backed Ukrainian President culminating a war in Donbass and Russia taking control of Crimea to avoid the both being taken by the US-trained Azov Nazis.
4. Since 2021, NATO has been pumping weapons to Ukraine.
5. In December 2022, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel admitted that the 2014 Minsk agreement was signed to buy time to rearm Ukraine.
6. On the positive side, the US and Europe have new leaders now.
