Winners & Sinners Of 2025

By Vishwamithra

“A single event can awaken within us a stranger totally unknown to us. To live is to be slowly born.” ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

National People’s Power (NPP) is a very powerful name for a political party. What was once commonly known as Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) reached its maturation after fifty four (54) years; it is now enjoying the comforts and luxuries of being at the helm of the country’s affairs. Dictatorship of the Proletariat did not materialize. In its place is a government elected by the people. The outdated Marxian principles belong in the dustbin of history. Its machinations have been put on hold, not for the time being, but for good. The subject of the class-struggle, ownership of the commanding heights of the economy by the State, every socioeconomic and political thought and inscrutable concepts of social evolution have been born after ‘contradictions’ of social dynamics, all such lingo has been relegated to the past. Market-economy, democratic governance and scientific approach to the modern ways of life have taken precedence and the leadership of the NPP seems to be doggedly pursuing a sensible goal in a more sensible manner and fashion.

Macro economic numbers seem to be favorable; statistics that usually define the  country’s path to recovery from bankruptcy are being enunciated many times by the so-called econ-gurus of the government. However, ignoring the micro aspects of the people, their silent suffering without a word of complaint and their apathetic attitude towards even more suffering have all come together to portray a nation still at a crossroads of a major economic transition, from unaffordable to affordable.

What we are witnessing today may well turn out to be a nightmarish mirage. Unless the leaders of the government, including President Dissanayake, accelerate the very process of execution of the so-called people-friendly policies.

Then the dreaded Ditwah happened. It single-handedly changed not only the physical landscape of the country, it altered the sociopolitical and economic contours of a society and called for a material rejuvenation of a people. The destruction was ruthless and its aftermath needs more attention of the decision-makers than ever. This is the time for the NPP government and its leaders to show the country that they have grown up beyond sloganeering and electioneering. Words would not feed the hungry and pontification does not bring about relief to a devastated citizenry.

In a context as described above, the winners will appear in every street corner and sinners would try to raise their ugly heads on many an occasion. And every now and then, one may fail to tell the real sinners from the genuine winners. The line that separates the two might be so blurry and faint, one would find many sinners hiding behind the balmy cloaks of winners.

In politics, as in all professions, winners are not completely pure and sinners cannot be found to be disgustingly impure. Those who ultimately pass judgment on politicians could be more impure and even incorrigibly sinful. Relative judgments made in these self-contradictory contexts, eventually turn up to be more erroneous; they end up being a genesis for a much more harmful process that claims more victims in the long run; they very rarely succeed in effecting individual fulfillment and lasting societal peace. Therefore, while hinting at particular winners and sinners, I shall make every attempt to refrain from naming specific men and women who happen to dominate our sociopolitical skies.

Yet when one looks back at the year 2025, aside from the NPP and AKD forming a seemingly workable government machinery, the most prominent and domineering episode that nearly consumed all life of the country as a whole is the Ditwah cyclone and its attendant destruction to people’s lives and property. This is not the first or last time such a devastating phenomenon chose to visit the otherwise calm and peaceful environment; the path it coursed through our society’s material and socioeconomic dynamics cannot be more life-withering.

Yet in the midst of this calamity rose some genuine gems of humanity. Families displaced by the raging waters, their properties damaged beyond repair and left with whatever they were wearing at the time, these moving humanity clung on to their little children with undying faith in the spirit of man that drove the ancient species to challenge the new and unknown. That march which began hundreds of thousands of years ago and the spirit that sustained their march was still alive and vital to nourish, nurture and consummate another phase of this vast evolutionary process.

We honor the men, women and children who endured and withstood the onslaught of the latest environmental attack. Their material wealth may not have survived the invasion of floods, storms and mudslides, yet their determination and the will to overcome any and all adversities apparently knew no boundaries. They certainly are outright winners. They could not have overwhelmed the water’s rage, but the will for excellence overrode the ecological disasters.

Those who fought the recent cyclone and the resultant catastrophic damages, whether they survived or not , are all winners without a doubt.

But amongst these brave men and women, typical political charlatans also meandered. They call themselves patriots. But the values and measures that have defined the nation within the confines of detailed love for the land of birth, neighbour and family do not seem to live in these political sinners. They are not only political sinners; they are sinners of the unkindest kind and cruelest of cruelty. In order to win a political argument and show the country that they are also visible amongst who ran the race, these politicians have opted to critique the government and its chosen set of policies and principles. Opposing for the sake opposition is no real fight; nor does it serve any meaningful purpose. It kills time; it wastes energy that could have been put to real use in other spheres.

Deployed in inhospitable conditions, the security forces have found themselves equally challenged and confronted by the same might of the raging waters and torrential rains. Yet, they never complained; their lending hands and equipment came handy in the adverse conditions and more often than not, their assistance was the equalizer that decided whether one could live or perish. They were winners too. Commanded by their military leaders and led by an understanding civil leader, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, they performed their duty without any bias or choice to any particular creed, race of religion. Confronted by a natural disaster of the unprecedented kind, their days had more than twenty four hours. From one sunrise till the next sunrise, they toiled and lent their mite to the sustenance of families’ lives. It was not an easy task; nor was it measured by man-hours of work or how many litres of fuel spent on helicopters and other vehicles. It was measurable only by the number of lives rescued and saved and dwellings recovered.

There was hardly any mention of illicit businessmen who were trying to make a fast buck at the expense of innocent customers. Such men and women spring up like wild mushrooms in the midst of natural calamities; every country experiences them when the proverbial going gets tough. But in the midst of the Ditwah, or in its immediate aftermath, there was hardly any news of such social scavengers. The sinners have rarely been sighted.

Sri Lanka has not recovered from her usual apathy; she is not a totally different personality after the NPP assumed power. Yet what the Aragalaya-22 has engendered in the mindset of the average citizen and its eye-opening cascade of a totally disparate thought process seems to be taking deep root. There are winners residing in the very persona of sinners and vice versa. Those who hold political power and the wheels and cogs of the government machinery should handle each new situation with its inherent issues and problems. There is no universal solution.

Our people were used to expecting each new government that was elected since 1947 to wave a magic wand and bring about prosperity and economic salvation. Maybe the Aragalaya -22 has shown another way to the promised land.

Usually in a situation such as the one Sri Lanka is experiencing today, one finds more sinners than winners.  It should be the solemn promise of AKD and his NPP-led government to turn sinners into winners and winners into champions.

I believe sinners outnumber winners by a significant margin. Goebell’s theoreum serves as the foundation for the NPP governance model
    .
Can we be proud as a nation if the NPP continues?
I truly don’t know what to say; the incumbent president believes the damage caused by the latest flood tragedy is in the range of $6 to $7 billion USD.

However, international authorities have said unequivocally that it cannot exceed 650 million USD. Who is speaking the truth as of today?
What an era in which nothing comes close to factual information. Almost everyone is mislead from dawn to sunset.
This has become a torment for others who are still sane.

“Winners & Sinners of 2025” – How do we identify these categories?

The writer says: ” This is the time for the NPP government and its leaders to show the country that they have grown beyond sloganeering and electioneering.”

We have already seen that they are a winning team in the way they have faced the biggest disaster the country has faced, the ‘Ditwaha’.

In like manner, we expected the whole of the Opposition would sink all political differences and rally round and join in ‘Rebuilding’ the country. But what a ‘Disaster’ they have created for themselves? All of them are ‘Bussy’ engaged in ‘Electioneering’. A very identifiable ‘SINNERS’.

    Watch the ‘DISSASTER’ – https://youtu.be/AEjSlYx16rE?si=e25NY7lPGdHStnmV
Have any of the Opposition politicians visited these scenes? These are the young people who have risked their lives to show to the world our predicament. Do the Opposition big ‘Talkers’ who roam around speaking of the ‘FALL’ of the Government in a few months, and some even asking to hand over the government to them, know the magnitude of the disaster? What they do is to ‘Fish in Troubled Water’. So the ‘SINNERS’ are identified.

What do Namal Baby and Mummy’s boy Sajith want?
Is there any scheme/treaty under which we can round up people like Wimal, Weerasekere, Udaya, …… Champa, ….. Channa, …. Siritharan, Archuna, and a number of Saffronistas, … deport them back to Bihar?

Hindian Armed Forces presence was not opposed by the people above. Why didn’t Shanvandra go to the North and protest against the Bridge Building Hindian army.? Malwattu who was opposed to Indo Sri Lanka bridge is completely gone silent.

I am not sure what is going on in this part of the world.

        NV,
“The presence of the Indian Armed Forces was not protested by the persons listed above. Why didn’t Shanvandra go to the north to resist the Bridge Building Hindian army? Malwattu, who was opposed to the Indo-Sri Lanka bridge, has gone entirely silent.

How can anybody oppose Sri Lanka’s sovereignty today when Thambuththegama Buramphi has been controlled by MODI for secret bilateral agreements? Burampi acts like a rape victim, especially in front of Indian delegations.
We’ve been forced to be their next state, and no amount of arguing will change that. Thanks to the Jeppo-barbarians, who stated the opposite, but the method in which they betrayed the people will be obvious in the coming weeks.

“I am not sure what is going on in this part of the world.”
We should understand where was the Sinhala Buddhist gone over the past few centuries until 2021 to build an illegal temple in Thaiyiddy? It took seven decades for Gotabaya to wait for Corona to send his military and monk to built this temple where not a single Sinhala family for thousands of years. None of the Sinhalese wanted to live in the North East for ever in their history. British were here from 1800. there was portugese, dutch here from 1500. there was three kingdoms there for many centuries before.
NPP says they are equal. they say the past 77 years leaders are racists, misused the power and robbed the country but NPP says that it is they did not do that but they say they need that temple and the Monk and they gave police the powers to kill Tamils. They say they need illegal Buddha?

II – The above link is the damage to our ‘Railway System’.

    Watch:

    https://youtub.e/o95LYe4uhgw?si=gudn6lnDzmXPCw_f

This is one among many colossal damages to the whole land mass of the island. I saw how the Leader of the Opposition was walking to collect data on the non-receivers of the relief funds. Another ‘To Be’ ‘President Namal Rajapakse visiting the saffron clothed ‘Buddha Cheewara Man’, the ‘Chief Priest’ of Mihintale to receive blessings and get directions on disaster management. Then, some local politicians are fighting over the ‘Defeat’ of the Budgets and claiming to unseat the present Mayors. At this hour, with the disasters (I have shown above) they are busy ‘Electioneering.’

    Aren’t they the ‘SINNERS’?

“To me, it sounds more like a nationalised power station.”

Stupid nation will pay a high price in the coming days. As of today, AKD deyyo treats us all as rape victims.
This is why more than 58% of eligible voters in this country chose not to elect AKD, the nation’s most cursed man, as president.

Today, more than two-thirds of the population is stunned and silent, unable to understand why our majority betrayed us again. Democracy can only benefit those who are polite enough to use their voting power. Even if we overestimate our talents, we are still a tribal people. Basta.

Mr V should write an article on Patriots and PSEUDO PATRIOTS of Ceylon and then SL over MORE THAN seven decades. These pseudo patriots and champions of Sinhala Buddhist Nationalism had caused immense damage/suffering to ALL the citizens of Mother Lanka. SWRD B will head the list of pseudo patriots followed by all other Sinhala heads.
Ideally if our country had a REAL Statesman to govern since the independence from the British our country would have developed to withstand all kinds of challenges—Environmental or Economic.

I doubt very much that the JVP has reached its MATURATION (evolution).
If it has truly matured it should not TOLERATE mediocrity and those who try to deceive the public. These pseudo patriots first appointed speaker of the house should vacate his position as an MP.
The Security Forces should act without bias and stand up to the monks who try to cause National disharmony.
AKD should get the good politicians from the opposition to join them and work towards a national UNITY GOVERNMENT

To me, Sri Lankan democracies have consisted of a variety of idea carriers. Most of the time, they promote falsehoods based on untruths for their own advantage. That then turns out to be people’s perceptions, although false. The saddest reality. Aiyooooooo

      Dear Naman,
“AKD should get the good politicians from the opposition to join them and work towards a national UNITY GOVERNMENT” –

Not asians, but many European nations are much more democratic, and it is apparent that even during Hitler’s reign, there were decent politicians capable of doing some beneficial things for the population.

Didn’t previous Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne handle the Ministry of Health far better than Nalinda Jayathissa?
Didn’t previous Minister Kanchana Wjesekara do better in his ministry of gasoline and petroleum than his present counterpart?
Did not former Minister Shehan Senasinghe fail to manage his finance ministry effectively during that important turning time in the country, which was left behind by then-President Gotabaya?

USA is appointing a new Ambassador to SL to serve the American interests only. AKD needs to be aware of dangers posed by western powers.
He should be aware of the evil forces that THREATEN our country.
Citizens of SL should listen to the troubles that are faced by a Statesman in Africa—->

      Naman,
“USA is appointing a new Ambassador to SL to serve the American interests only”
Well, isn’t that what Ambassadors are supposed to do?
Of course, there are some Ambassadors like A.S.P. Liyanage and Jaliya Wickramasooriya who serve only their own private interests.

      • 3

        Hello OC,
I don’t know if it was due to Liyanage’s Corrupt practices, or just the way Sri Lanka’s Embassies operate, however the Embassy in Doha, Qatar was completely useless. I didn’t know a single Sri Lankan in Qatar that had anything good to say about the Embassy. They left the poor Sri Lankans in the Industrial Area without Food or Money during the Covid Lockdown. I know because I went to the Industrial Area to give some assistance.
I won’t mention the Stafford School shenanigans. During Liyanage’s time in Doha many under the Counter deals were done regarding Visas and Passports.
By the way is this fraudulent Scheme still in place? – “Before leaving for the Middle East, Sri Lankan personnel must make mandatory payments for Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) registration, a fee around Rs. 22,000-27,000 for new workers, plus potentially a Police Clearance Certificate fee (around Rs. 1500 online) and other agent charges”
        Best regards

          LS,
I don’t know if the figures are right, but the SLBFE still does impose levies on workers departing for the Gulf, and also ambush them on their return.. But, strangely, they don’t approach young people going to Australia or Europe for employment. There is an element of discrimination there.
ASP Liyanage was no diplomat but a political toady with links to all sides. A truly repulsive character.

I assumed that many of the candidates chosen by MaRa ADMINSTRATION were similar.

Many sane people believed that after the end of the CBK administration, many ambassadors were cherry-picked by politicians who did not value their talents or foreign service qualifications.

. Remember that several former army and navy leaders were chosen as ambassadors, despite the fact that their fundamental knowledge of such duties was manifestly inadequate. Agree with OLDCODGER that Jaliya W and ASP Liyanage were the most foolish people to hold such posts, even if Dr Dayan Jayathilaka, a pretentious man, did some good work as well. I watched him in a TV interview last night after a long time. Dayan Jayathilaka (a lapdog of MaRa) is skilled at talking about his family and heritage, which keeps him unnaturally high – this is characteristic of him.

Time has come for the Citizens of SL to get a NEW Constitution that will TAKE CARE of the Sinners and Pseudo Patriots forever. It’s unbearable to see the sinners still living luxuriously with their ill-gotten wealth.
It is because of these sinners that the poverty is thriving in the country.
It is important for the public to see the draft of the New Constitution in order to make their positive contributions in getting a TRULY BEAUTIFUL and great
New Constitution that will serve the multi cultural multi religious multi ethnic nation

    Sinners come in VARIOUS forms!

This island of Sri Lanka since it come under Sinhala Buddhist Terrorism, the people of the island are always sinners and island is only with sinners. This island can become only get rid of SB terrorism. Sinhala Buddhism is completely different from Lord Buddha’s Buddhism principles. But none of the rulers including NPP are Sinhala Buddhists.

      Dear Readers,
In contrast to his past governments, this one has been the worst. AKD campaigned for the appropriate person to be granted the proper post in the elected government of Lanken. Why does his leadership account for this much? Many wonder if an elected IGP is appropriate given the lack of an auditor general for the nation, the experience of the former speaker and the minister of health, even though their foolish and self-proclaimed media units exaggerated their profiles in order to deceive the very country that is being shown to be easy pickings. Even if the president himself hee-haws and boasts about enforcing law and order equally to everyone, there is no comparable treatment to those in their ruling alliance. Examples include the beating of a policeman and Ranwala’s car accident.

Dear Readers: I have already presented, through two YouTube presentations, the ‘Unthinkable’ that Sri Lanka faced after the ‘Tsunami’. The main article dealt with “Winners” and “Sinners.”

I invite you to watch the following link:

    https://youtu.be/WzDBNYO_WwM?si=CEAcDGUCMIn_2JzJ

Please note the Sun’s cycle of ’11’ years, and according to NASA, we are on its ’25th’ cycle. When I saw many of the earthquakes that devastated our country, some of those were ‘Unthinkable’ and would probably be beyond ‘Prediction.’ When you are watching this link, please set aside all of your ‘religious’,’ ethnic’, and subjective feelings (hate, love, jealousy, etc.) and concentrate on how all of us on this planet earth are ‘Impermanent’ and ‘Vulnerable.’

In the end, we won’t have any ‘Winners’ and ‘Sinners’ but ‘LOSERS’ of ‘EVERYTHING.’

    Readers,
We have a gut sensation that another kind of bheeshanaya is being processed through tyranny and media repression, and we are constantly realizing that JEPPOs are merely time-killers.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTGP3dEiUFA

Their prior knowledge, which is significantly less advanced than any other level, is the only way they can incite hatred. After completing their education or graduating from state colleges (by wasting the chances of the masses that dreamt of getting a chance to study a subject of their choice at a local univerisity), they consistently engaged in such behavior while remaining undetected and idling for decades. Those who drained the last of the youth’s blood during the Bheeshanaya period of 1989–1992 have been questioning now if there were any excellent ministers in the previous governments. Can you imagine?
It is now evident to those in positions of authority that all ministers, whether left-leaning or right, have done both good and bad work. This is especially true in the ruling politics of a nation where cultural forces are far more potent than issues of law and order. But it took that long for foolish and rebellious Jeppos to understand. That is the most depressing social characteristic of the South Asian nations that have been striving to become Singapore.

Tell us who in the current governing class has the potential to be a good minister.Let’s compare at least a handful of the current government’s ministers.

Even if the donkey’s heehaws have destroyed this country, some people are still frozen and unable to see the reality on the ground. We’ve been duped once more, but Douglas and others are to blame. They are the plague of our country, which is full with more creatures masquerading as people.

AKD Deyyo, the Minister of Finance (also known as Pachoris, Thambuththegama Burampi, or a number of other names), has done nothing but steal the credit from the previous administration, which was led by Mr. RW. But because they are more like UNAWATUNA-DOUGLAS—rigid because nothing can change their preconceived notions—people remain mute. This particular minister lacks appropriate fact-checking, yet he utilizes parliament to distort the facts. However, this only lasts for a few weeks before the bugger et al. understand that anything he says without prior verification might only mislead the “gullible masses” of this foolish country. Is this finance minister comparable to former minister “Shehan Senasinghe,” petroleum minister “Kanchana Wijesekara,” or other youthful ministers who performed exceptionally well in a prior government?

Transport Minister Bimal Rathanayaka What has he accomplished in the past fifteen months? He’s become today’s laughingstock, isn’t that right?

Lal Kantha, the Minister of External Affairs and Wild Coservation (a previous murder by facts) What excellent work has the bugger completed thus far?

Time has come for some from the minorities to start practicing the real Buddhism as it should be. I also admire the person who is a Tamil but very fluent in Sinhala had become a Buddhist Monk. There are only few good practicing Buddhist Clergy in SL.
Most are Buddhist Fundamentalists causing harm to HARMONY and PEACE in our motherland.
Time for separation of religion and regime. Politicians need not patronise the clergies and Clergies don’t dabble in politics. Is GoSL checking on the training of young clergies in training or for that matter in Orphanages.
Sometimes they are the voiceless victims of THE rotten system.
Haven’t we heard of lots instances of abuse of children. I am sure in SL these are pushed under the carpet by powerful SINNERS!!!
