2024: A Year Of Historic Choice

By Ameer Ali

Dr. Ameer Ali

“Good governance never depends upon laws, but upon the personal qualities of those who govern. The machinery of government is always subordinate to the will of those who administer that machinery. The most important element of government, therefore, is the method of choosing leaders”.

2024 is going to be a year of elections, but how many and in what order are uncertain although President Ranil Wickremesinghe (RW) would prefer his position to be legitimized first. This is why there is a frenzy of meetings and discussions among various parties to look for winnable candidates and to form coalitions if necessary to capture RW’s position. Hilariously, one of the parties, SLPP of Rajapaksas, which is currently firing the shots in the RW led regime, has laid out ten conditions for candidates who are seeking that party’s nomination. Several of those conditions such as smart agricultural initiatives, poverty alleviation and job creation, economic growth and investment attraction, cost of living reduction and international level education, are a tacit admission that the SLPP regime failed to achieve any of the conditions during years in which Rajapaksas had been in power. It was their reckless economic and financial mismanagement with borrowed funds to finance white elephant projects, to provide fiscal favours and kickbacks to family members and party parvenus, and to subvert public institutions including the constitutionally independent CBSL to gain political mileage that led to rampant corruption and nepotism in public administration, which ultimately bankrupted the treasury, buried the economy in debt and left the nation with no alternative but to approach IMF for funds and advice. That same SLPP is now eyeing on a rupee multi-billionaire businessman with his accumulated wealth kept safely abroad to be entrusted with the task of rebuilding the shattered economy and bring prosperity to the people. One should remember that the talent and skills required to manage and succeed in one’s private business is not necessarily correlated to those required for managing a national economy. While President RW promises a Valhalla in 2048, SLPP seems to promise an Eldorado during its next term of government.  Whom are they hoodwinking?

Whether it is going to be a presidential, general, provincial or local government election the choice before the people is starkly evident. It is a choice between continuing the old order structured on an ethnonationalist edifice with its supreme ideal of maintaining Sinhala majoritarianism while promising to renegotiate some aspects of IMF’s economic agenda, or, eradicating the old order and creating a new one based on secular democracy entrenched in a secular constitution and reprioritizing IMF’s agenda with a positive bias towards revitalizing the domestic real economy and ensure economic justice to all. It is going to be an epochal choice confronted by a new generation of voters who had already expressed their preference in 2022 via the aragalaya.

Of all the parties that are on the run it is only NPP – an ideological coalition of more than 20 groups under the leadership of JVP’s Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD), that promise a complete breakaway from the past. When AKD talked about a “social revolution” to change the “political culture” of this country, he could not have meant anything else other than a paradigmatic shift to create a new order. The fact that he is appealing to voters to give his team a chance to materialize that ideal, itself shows NPP’s political maturity in the context of JVP’s past revolutionary baggage. All the other parties, whether they are to contest individually or in coalition want to maintain the old paradigm. Even RW for that matter, who is constantly claiming that his way, whatever that means, is the only way for salvation, and therefore wants all communities to support him, is playing hide and seek when it comes to destroying the old order. For instance, when he addressed the attendees at a Muslim College function on 27 December at Guruthalawa, he vowed to “safeguarding the Sinhala identity, religion and culture” while promising to end discrimination against other ethnic and religious communities – an old chorus repeated by every political leader at public gatherings since independence.  With the dominance of the saffron robe in the old order the president would obviously not risk alienating that sector by criticizing that order. Only NPP’s pronouncements sound close to achieving a paradigmatic shift.

Yet, it is regarding IMF’s role in the economic trajectory of Sri Lanka that NPP seems to draw a line between itself and other parties. Recently, the CBSL Governor has warned that “any deviation from (the IMF) path would bring detrimental and irreversible consequences”.  That may be so and all other parties except NPP would agree with him, because they all want to keep the economy open and be driven by unhindered market forces so that free competition would encourage inward foreign investment and develop an export dependent economy. But apart from the already built-in detrimental effects emanating from a corrupt domestic governance, which IMF itself is aware of, has the respectable Governor any solution to protect such an export dependent Sri Lanka from the external shocks of the global economy? The growing global economic pessimism engendered by the two wars on the one hand and large-scale devastations caused by unpredictable natural disasters on the other should not be underestimated, and they need internal shock absorbers to minimize negative effects. Small economies with wide income inequalities and population pressure cannot afford to move with the ebb and flow of the global economy, and therefore local economies need to be restructured at least to achieve self-sufficiency in basic needs. NPP’s refocus on the domestic real sector is therefore makes good sense. To make that sector vibrant and productive the domestic market should be cleansed of its current institutional and political rigidities created by the old order. Perhaps it is with that objective NPP may renegotiate and reprioritize IMF’s stipulations. This is not to reject IMF totally and not to operate a close economy as some critiques may argue.

Sri Lanka, unlike some other developing economies is naturally resourceful. It is therefore not a beggar who cannot choose. With an enlightened leadership it can pick and choose its benefactors. Unfortunately, over seven decades of political parochialism driven by ethnonationalism the old order created a ruling elite and endowed it with an open license to manage the country’s resources without any accountability. That license led to mismanagement and it reached a crescendo during the last few years. Today, a new generation of voters who are not only politically educated but also equipped with all the paraphernalia required to remain in touch with events happening outside the country, seem to have awakened to the reality of effecting a historic change in 2024. The aragalaya if anything signaled this awakening. Demographically also the votes of this new generation can tip the balance in favour of the team they think would be capable of remaking the country through a social revolution.  Public opinion indicates that NPP could be a promising candidate of preference. However, there are also saboteurs who could cause ruination and chaos by calling for a total boycott of the next election. That would be a political suicide.

There seems to be some contradiction hear. The vigour of the old order is asserted and the inability of the old leaders like Ranil to effect changes is acknowledged. Why would NPP succeed when there is an entrenched system of patronage reinforced by religion in place. The NPP has not attempted to confront it in any way. The aragalaya was short-lived. Once a semblance of normalcy was restored, it folded up in the face of brutal force. What the NPP holds out is a mirage. There is no policy change if the IMF is not rejected. The IMF is not going to agree to the NPP’s programme if it deviates from the austerity-free market programmes of the IMF. So, what is the change that the NPP is going to make. Apart from hot air, we have not heard any concrete economic programme stated. Also, no solutions are advanced to deal with other factors like corruption and the ethnographic-religious issues. We just have large crowds at JVP meetings which we have seen before. They will not result in votes unless a clear alternative is presented.

This country has ruled by the same people for the past 75 years after the independence with the same old system, same political institutions, the same old tactics and almost all the current politicians are reached the same old as independence. Every time we were told that they have changed now and country will improve next time and finally brought us bankruptcy and even now they say we will reach moon or sun to get rice.It is not first time that IMF come to save Sri Lanka. What is the guarantee that this time it will be a positive outcome? So, the country need to change and our politics and people need change. Why cannot it be NPP?

Really? What exactly are these natural resources that Dr. Ali claims we have? If we actually have resources, why are we borrowing/begging?

Yes, in speech after speech AKD has spoken of graphite and ilmenite. Here’s more that I picked up when I once called the NPP head-office in Pelawatte. Apparently AKD had made some gaffe over graphite, which has been used to embarrass him..
            .
This, the simple guy manning the phone at Pelawatte told me, is why AKD does not venture into areas (detailed costing of projects, and showing off his English). There are admitted gaps in our knowledge.

Singparoe has nothing in terms of soil resources. But their tax systems and ports brought them forex. Their political systems are based on strict enforcement of law and order. The nation of 5 million is among the super rich countries in the world today.
I first visited Singapore in the mid-80s. They were already working with strict rules. Their Changi airport is still the best airport I can dream of. I have been to many place of this planet though. If the skin of an apple or something else falls on the ground, the fine is $500. Chewing gum is strictly prohibited in airports. It is not less than 500 dollars.

Have you heard that professional racist Nalin De Silva of all people will give a lecture titled “What is lacking in the Mahavamsa ” at the RAS ? Has he finally realised where his ancestors came from?

Professor ND Silva, a racist, must have been kicked out of his UK research group in those days.
As a result, he became a Sinhala nationalist forever. He attacks western medicine. Since then he was the mostsinhala-supremacist.. Seeing him address the stupid audience of post-war Sri Lanka made me want to vomit.
This person is said to be sick in every way. I had several friends who knew this man as a mathematician. All of them were brainwashed by NDS theories of Sinhalese supremacy.
According to me, if a person is still racist after being out of the country for a long time, he or she must be mentally ill. These people are like real poisonous reptiles.

Jayasumana became a professor when there were not enough candidates (Sabaragamuwa University) to apply for the post. Although he had not collected a number of postdoctoral publications in the field of toxicology research, the MARA was behind him, which was the prerequisite.
Please add other comments on this, if anyone would have it at disposal. All these should be made aware to the punnaku drinkers dominated srlanka.
. Generally, candidates for such professorships should cover all the requirements as required by the UGC. However, several other candidates were awarded Jayasumana-style professorships simply because Medamulana Mrugaya recommended it.

The voters voted for Sirima when she promised rice from the moon. Prior to that they voted for Sinhela only supremacy. The Banda’s began ruining this country by not only starting the ethnic conflict but nationalizing everything in site. The VOTERS supported all these STUPID policies. They followed this up by more monumental blinders such as voting for MR a second time and then the biggest whopper voting for the GOAT. The voters need to accept that it is their MORONIC attitude that got them and the country into this mess. Following it up with more MORONIC voting patterns will only undo what ever good that has been done same as all the previous occasions. OWN it the next time round. You get the politicians you deserve.

Cicero: According to you NPP is a “Mirage”. You seem to have not followed what NPP has so far laid out to the public in their “Policy Documents”; “Public Statements” (made in their Seminars) and the “Organizational Structure” now widely known to the people and internationally. This, NPP has been capable of gathering large crowds which shows the people are LISTENING, and they are working hard to achieve that expected CHANGE. The “Clear Alternative” that you look for, in my view, would come when an election is announced, because that needs to address the changing trends, in the economy, politics, and social environment. My request to you is to wait for a while.

As regards the IMF. What a MESS this Government has made it to be? The people are FED UP, not because of anything but how those “Proposals” are put into action. Just imagine how the people have been made WORSE OFF than they were months back. The daily SUFFERINGS are escalating and the whole of its SOCIAL IMPACT in the way the IMF targets are practiced has irked the people to the level of condemning it. That is why NPP says, they would “Re-VISIT” the whole document, which I think IMF too will consider seriously. IMF too needs to safeguard its reputation.

organised for women . Good crowd . I tell you an example that
happened in a public school in the country about a a decade back.
O L final year class had 38 pupils and they all attend class regularly
No absence because of the O L exam and came the exam . All 38
failed at the exam ! What happened ? All 38 attended class everyday
of the week . Eyes were at the Teachers . Ears heard the teachers .
Notes taken down . But at the end All Failed . Do we need a post
mortem ? I DO NOT BELIEVE SRILANKA DECIDES ELECTION WINS .
Since we depend on outside for everything else , Election Results
Won’t be any exception Back to Matara , among the large crowd of

Communication is a real bigger problem than it seems to be between voters and political speakers: I don’t think I understand a lot: whether it’s health; Educational; Commercial or anything else: they try to nod their heads like mercy cows. That is it.

The main problems with the NPP is that they do not use “plain text” addressing the Commoners in those PUBLIC meetings.Graphic formations and explanations would not be clear to many of them.

Most of the people present at such meetings are biting their nails or scratching their ears, being unable to understand what the people on the platform are talking about.

I observed this at North Kalutara meeting, I think it was at the end of last Nov, 2023. However, during my short time in Sri Lanka, I felt a desire to go and see how people behaved in the crowd. Most of them seem to be more disappointed than to engage with the PODIUM talks.

I don’t want offensive language of MARA to be a part of their MEDIUM for transport the message,, however, they should use DAY TODAY examples to inject facts into people who are full of idiots.

My oral skills in Sinhala are excellent, but even in reading, I’m slow, and I just don’t write in Sinhala even with my fist. My computers are not equipped to write Sinhala; isn’t it like that with most of us? Anything wrong with that? “leelagemalli” was telling readers that “Sinhala_Man” doesn’t know Sinhala.

So, if not for the IMF, how would the NPP raise funds? Dr Ali thinks that the ”NPP may renegotiate and reprioritize IMF’s stipulations ” & not totally reject the IMF. Isn’t he jumping the gun? Raj-UK: Happy New Year. NPP was not against seeking assistance from IMF, because S/L is a Member country and had sought such aid 16 times earlier. At the debate over this “17th” instant, NPP wanted Ranil W to table the “Agreement” and reveal what “Conditions” are stipulated. Ranil W backed out and later found that there was another “Document” that contained several “Instructions” to be followed. It was this “Document’ that stipulated “Cost Based Prices” of all utilities (petrol, gas, electricity, etc,); Tackling the “Corruption”; “Revision” and increase in Taxe Revenue, etc, came into being. This is where the trouble started. All prices were increased on an ad-hoc basis and the taxation methods and systems crippled the wage earners PLUS the “Medium/Small” entrepreneurs to abandon their businesses. As a result “12%” of the export revenue was lost and a large number of Businesses were closed down.

To make matters worse a colossal sum of Rs. 1.3 Trillion loans that remained unpaid were struck off as “Un-Recoverable”. This very badly affected the Banking Sector. For your information, these “Un-Recoverable Loans” belonged to “12” Business Tycoons of “Political Affiliates” of UNP and SLPP (Mahinda R)

This is only a SNIPPET of a much LARGER picture that needs to be studied further.

My comment got accidently posted before I could complete the sentence. It is the same I have always been saying, that voters should be able to make an educated decision but not sure about the ”new generation of voters who are not only politically educated but also equipped with all the paraphernalia…” Dr A is talking about. In my understanding, Dr A is assuming. As an academic, I expect him to make conclusion based on facts & figures & impartial in his comments without defending a party for which he is (assumed to be) not an official spokesman.

For your information, I have voted in the past & I have duel citizenship because I always wanted to return to my country of birth after retirement. I can always have a comfortable life in UK but I am concerned, particularly, about close friends in SL who are facing hard times due to the bungling & corruption of previous regimes. I don’t want to see the same mistakes repeated. I fear many in SL are ‘romantic’ & not rational in their thinking when it comes to political decisions & the entire country will suffer & have suffered on assumed prosperity by ambiguous promises made by politicians. Haven’t we forgotten the 6m gullible voters who also voted for an assumed war hero & a tough talking patriot with a bunch of intellectuals?

        Raj,
        .
I fully agree with CICERO and RAJ-UK about NPP.
What makes the NPP different from other traditional parties? They have been in active politics for a little over 50 years, apart from destroyed assets, they have produced sonless mothers and fathers who have become perpetually mentally ill.

Frankly speaking, in November 2023, I spoke personally to a mother in the South whose son was kidnapped and shot to death, similar to the murder of Richard de Soyswas. He was the only son of that mother. She looked at me with tears in her eyes, however, she did not say much about the grief that had been anchored in her heart since her son’s death.

What have they proven so far? Killing tactics? The nature of revenge? Jealous of others? etc
        .
I can appease these torchbearers, like we appease children, a self-delusion.

      Dear Cicero,
      .
      I’m not sure
what should be done about people like you, and ANI Ekanayake who wrote this article which you so much admired:
      .
      https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/is-true-system-change-in-sri-lanka-only-a-fantasy/
      .
As you will see, the very first comment there is by me. In that comment I have mentioned that I have just sent off an email to ANI. That the article is in seemingly good English is not contested, but what about the content? ANI bemoans the passing of the “old order“; what can he put in its place?
      .
The email that he had sent me was even more specific. I had sent him a YouTube of Vijitha Herath speaking English, and said that I had not heard AKD speak English. He said (rightly) that Vijitha was struggling with his English, and that AKD must be worse. I’m not sure.
      .
I don’t have a telephone number for ANI, but I gave him two numbers for myself, and said that if I received a missed call from him, I would call him back at my expense (since I have monthly packages). Then he could assess my spoken English. No call from him.

        PART TWO
        .
        Vijitha Herath
has to be admired for using English; but that is not what you and others of your ilk do.
        .
Why don’t you face up to the fact that elections are not being held on schedule . The hot air comes from your side! How can detailed solutions be given when we don’t know just how bad the situation is.
        .
You obviously don’t listen to all the YouTubes that we’ve been suggesting, most of them in Sinhala. It is you who are out of tune with what is going on. We’re doing what we can. If you examine some of the many comments that I have made, you will find me providing readers with material in English, and even in Tamil, asking for feedback, since I don’t know Tamil.
        .
        What more can I do?
        .
If you find this confusing, just think the irrationality of all that you’re saying.

A vote for anyone other than for the NPP would be a vote for ‘more of the same’ – bribery, corruption, fraud and lawlessness. This country and its’ people have brought down to their knees by a multitude of mafiosi who control almost every aspect of life. 2024 is most definitely shaping up to be “A Year of Historic Choice”.

    Happy New Year everyone,
Regardless of the government that continues to run it from the end of November 2024, we should not be narrow-minded to see almost everything from a single dark angle.

What if the dreamy NPP (JVP wine in NPP bottle) only criticizes “pointing the finger at 75 years of rule from independence” as they have done for the last 52 years?
Knowing that we need to build bridges rather than break them is the precedent for the development of this nation’s progressive economy.
    .
Besides, it is wrong to say that a country is not governed by law.

Germany, Singapore, Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom, and several other countries where I once lived and continue to live have their law and order systems controlled by powerful state apparatuses that dominate. Whether it is a minor or a major issue, it is a matter that has to be weighed by the existing laws for anyone, regardless of rank. Of course, if you are educated, you can choose good lawyers to take on unfair cases like financial crimes.

The commonality of all developed states is that they are empowered by their systems and policies.
If a state is stronger than any other institution then people have no choice but to be familiar with the laws. how can we empower them from the status where they are fallen in today ? is the biggest issue. is not that so ?
We need to better look at how we empower the state in both religious and legal aspects. i HAVE not studied yet if NPP has shared their opinions on these crucial topics, even if they have exposed lot more in recent times. However, if their talks would restrict to PUBLIC stage, things would remain as it is.
      .
I have no doubt that if the government is wholeheartedly involved in this move, foreign expertise can be trusted for these thorough diplomatic channels. Sinhala and Tamil diaspora can proactively participate in this.

Sri Lanka or similar economically poor countries (not even US 80 billion GDP) are caught in the various and sundry obstacles of their cultures and religions and the state acts literally corruptly, so the media brothels or other menacing institutions takes over . There is no other option but to become easy prey. This is more evident today than in the past.
Why should such mainstream media brothels be given more space to further mislead the very audiences? NEWS GUIDE THE NATION – if misleading news become HEAD lines of those channel ? consequences are alarming.

I often feel that government media TV channels are less popular than the extremely corrupt TV media organizations like Swarnavahini, TV Derana, Hiru TV, which destroy the normal mentality every morning and evening. Media TV channels inevitably imported Indian films to broadcast on their channels, which could irreversibly damage local cultures. I wonder why the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Culture were not implemented in this regard. Indianization of Sri Lankan artists is becoming a big threat today. If artists are the guides of society, how can foreign hands be preferred to local settings?

Dear LM: You said: “What if the dreamy NPP (JVP wine in NPP) only criticizes pointing fingers at 75 years rule…….” You are correct. What else they could have done? Were they ever mandated to run a Government? NO. I know only ONE time with Chandrika B holding three Cabinet positions for only “14 months”. Have you not heard what those three Ministers did during that short period? I don’t want to detail those doings here. I urge you to look into that past.

Recently at a debate time, AKD was asked by Prasanna Ranatunga why NPP didn’t take action against MR & Co. during the “Yahapalanaya” in which Government (of MY3 & Ranil W) he had “Influence”. AKD answered and pointed his finger at MR and others seated in the front row of the present Government and said: ” If I had the power most of you seated in the front seats will be at Welikada prison”. Do you think any other MP would have that type of courage to say it? I am bringing this incident to your attention to show that NPP means business and they will “WALK THE TALK”. I will come back again. All the BEST for 2024.

I beg to differ your opinion about NPP was not given power in the past.
            .
If it is valid for NPP, why is it not applicable for the current presidency led by RW?

RW has not been president in the last two decades.

And he only had the opportunity to be the nation’s prime minister (without executive powers) for 6 times. Now in current context, current PM has nowhatsoever power in terms of execuative powers. So was the case with RW’s previous premierships.

            1) Can we say whether or not the NPP leader will continue with the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund, in order to come out of the pit the entire nation is fallen in.

            2) And the naive arguments of Sunil Handunnetty* are based on the premise that “we have other options than relying solely on IMF recommendations”… what other options do we the poor nation have????????????????????????????????
            3) How will the NPP government bring more foreign currency into the country than it is flowing in today? through CHATHURANGE-ABEYSINGHE ‘ s WONDER MAKING LAMP ?

The POWERS of the Constitution of Sri Lanka are exercised not by the Prime Minister but by the President.
Sorisena, for example, ridiculed it as no other leaders ever done in entire asia.
Also Medamulana Balla (DOG) abused the powers without any regard for the constitution. We know how he vacated the state tresary that day.

              2

Dear LM: Sorry, my friend to say that your understanding of how a Government is run is “Minimal”. If the “President” is the “SOLE AUTHORITY” (because you say Ranil W was not the President for decades) to administer a country, why there is a need to have a “CABINET” of Ministers and other “Agencies” to “PLAN” and “EXECUTE” policies and action plans? Sorry, I do not wish to pour water on a “Duck’s back”.

With your reply comment, I am still thinking about whether it is worthwhile to provide answers to the “3” questions you raised because that too will be a waste of time. Have a Nice Day!

            Douglas ,

” NPP means business and they will WALK THE TALK ” . I have
in my hand , my personal experience with one of JVP big wigs ,
that happened exactly a year ago which will prove they are quite
capable of LIMPING even on a simple basic issue . We all want a
change . I does not matter who but IT MATTERS TO UNDERSTAND
THAT THE CHANGE IS NOT WITHIN OUR EASY REACH . Look
carefully , JVP / NPP’s 90% campaign is an easy one , Blame Game
that everyone else does but with the exception of being exemplary
in practice as much as possible . Is that enough for the changes
we need ? Watch carefully their visits to the countries where our
diasporas are now residing , mainly the West . What is their Real
Motive ? Only meeting expatriates ? I don’t think so . It could also
be signalling that The Western Political Interests will be safe in
their hands ! Same will be the case with India and China ! Good but
the case is , they don’t divulge much about these in public . And
these relations and catching thieves , something very fishy . So be
careful about having all your eggs in one basket buddy .

whywhy: Thanks. All of us have experiences with all these political outfits in various proportions at different times. But the question is: Should that be the yardstick to be used at a time of “National Crises”? As you know S/L has officially declared a bankrupt country and its inhabitants are faced with unmeasurable hardships in their day-to-day living.

On that “Meeting the Expatriates”. I think it is a strategic move to win over the expatriates who still bear a kind of influence over their family members, relations, and friends and through them to secure support at an election. In my opinion, it is certainly not to secure “Western Political Interests”.

That “Western Political Interests” are already in play in Colombo. It is VISIBLE with recent visits of “Foreign Embassay Hig-Ups” and “Officials” for discussion at NPP Headquarters at Battaramulla. These visits were very open and were available in”YouTube” presentations.

Thanks for your advice: ” all your eggs in one basket”. Are there any options?

                Douglas ,

Thanks for your reply . “Are there any options” ? I watched
Handunneththi telling a journalist ” even if the current govt
does not do nothing and sits idle , the country will still run
better without any of them and only with the civil admin ” .
I don’t say this an option but simply to pin point that not doing
nothing on the part of wrong guys will ease the burdens of
interference for the admins . There are options , it is the people
who are programmed on a certain direction , the hurdle

Comparing Anura with the infamous legacy group (or the UNP-SLFP union,) is repeatedly done by a selected political analyst who suffers from mind blocks. They cannot identify the difference between the Sun light coming in the day time and Moon light coming in the night. Economy (country’s Economic problem) is a moving subject, not stagnant. Yesterday’s Nobel Prize winning theories are not a guaranteed solution for today’s economic problems> Tomorrow’s are the ones, will be inherited by him if Anura wins. How many days old is the Evil Emperor’s monster child called VAT18, for which Old Rowdy Royals voted for & installed, but now showing Dhammika as the solution? As of today, Evils’ monster Child VAT18 is only one day old. If Anura wants to Challenge Old Rowdies’ tricky game of VAT18, he needs to invent ways to reduce cost of living through stimulating production of consumables locally and/or dollar exchange rate reduction. Old Rowdies promised to cut down the taxes as a solution to the price increase, which was started through exchange rate flaring up, which was created by Mangala’s Foreign Exchange Fraud Amnesty Act 2017, to protect Royals’ loot from foreign countries’ eyes. Now all are seeing neither of them is any solution for any of the problems they created. But rather all mistakes of the Sinhala Buddhist Intellectuals (Viyathmaga) created, aggregated themselves and bankrupted the country.

Every time when the strange species, the Sinhala Buddhist intellectuals tried to meddle with economy in order to hide their loots, murder, rapes the economy dipped one more step. But the Sinhala Buddhist rulers only brought the talk of Miracle of Asia or 2048’s super power Langkang. Did nothing to elevate the people’s problems. One toddler prince once started to demand the queen to catch the moon and give it to him. Mother failed in her attempts to comfort him, asking the king to send him some help to deal with the prince. Thenaliraman came from the king’s court with a bag and tipped the queen, “No more worry, I’ll deal with the future king”. Then he told the prince “I have brought the moon for you from you dad; here it is” and he pulled a mirror that was hidden in a bag and held it under the moon. The child took the mirror in his hand, running around shouting “I have got the moon”; I have got the moon!
Lotus tower or Hangbangtota’ s Southern highways, or Dalada Maligawa car race track never put a onetime meal on the Sinhala Buddhist’s plates. But only enabled the Sinhala Elites to live a $30B luxury life.

  • 2
    2

Sinhala Buddhist Intellectuals had done nothing for the people’s problems but efficiently hiding their crimes using Kadirgamar, Rohan Gunaratne like foul experts. For 75 years, “Miracle of Asia” has been the moon in the mirror, for political well frogs, Sinhala Buddhist, who know only to set the fire to Tamils’ homes if Aanduwa launched. Exchange rate problem created by Mangala was never met with a true solution thus far by the UNP-SLFP union. A true solution: the exchange rate has to be fought with exports and tourism expansion. Evil and Mangala, to hide that problem, donated a harbor and 5 villages land to China. Now China wants to bring Spy Ships and warships to its port. Evil who has only two weeks memory, he can no longer remember, that in order to enslave and genocide Tamils, his uncle signed the defense pact, Indo-Lanka pact. China’s war & spy ships coming to the Chinese port of Hangbangtota is not going well with India. The Old Royals’ tax cut saga was an old promise, to mitigate the price increase created by Mangala’s 2017 act, and the falling down rupee value, was implemented in an opposite environment. Hitler’s time, the problem was the income loss & supply chain problems created by Covid-19. So, the tax cuts did not ease people’s problem of standing in line for essential supplies but bankrupted the government.

  • 3
    1

Now the Evil Emperor is fighting it with import control. What import control is doing is shrinking the economy. After import control is relaxed, it may take years for industries to fluff back to their earlier size. Evil is not sure about his future after the election. So, it is a good idea for him to postpone the problem of import control’s effect to the new government, about to come. When the government releases the import control, the dollar exchange rate and prices will go through the roof, while the local business will still be limping, not being able to get out of the pit they fell in during the import control. So, what Anura is going to undertake is the current problems and the problems created by mismanaging the current problems. This is an indication or an example of the need for the solution and the solution providing leaders of economic problems must be dynamic enough to shoot the moving targets, the economic problems. The Evil Emperor’s new year’s first threat is that he will arrest and humiliate or punish the writers and politicians who talk about the IMF sponsored VAT18. The NPP’s promise is that they will oppose VAT18, which they lost to the UNP-SLFP union inside the parliament. The current style of UNP-SLFP Union way of solving the problem is creating a new problem to the masses.

  • 1
    1

So, to sweep under the carpet the newly created VAT18 Monster Evil is planning arresting people under PTA and torture. The IMF, in its own way, is aware of Langkang’s problems solving methods, so it has predicted riots flaring up in 2024; (IMF not willing to accept that there would be numerous protests as NPP and SJB say.)

Though it was all the way back from 1948, but specifically from Siri Ma O time, the legacy Kings, Queens, and Emperors had come to power with the promise of only to protecting the sovereignty of the country, i.e., saving the Sinhala Buddhists, that in turn only protecting the ruling royal classes from legal resources and the masses’ anger. From my side, if I mention one more time that “Evil came to power not to improve the economy, but only with one motive, i.e., saving the Old Rowdy Royals and other UNP-SLFP Kleptocrats” the readers are only going to feel that is too many repetitions. (Even the laymen observable trait of Evil is, when he hears even a small noise, he immediately plans to hand over the job to the other partner. There are many issues Anura can stay out of and not put his hands on them to save money and precious life for his people.

  • 0
    1

The greed for name earning and the pompous – bogus nature of Mr. Clean mind never lets Evil settle on one problem and resolves to eliminate it. Further he never focused on the locals’ actual problems but consults America how to solve Israel-Palestinian war or even when the country go shaken like during tsunami or Meethotamulla disaster for everyday normal rain, he consult in the Paris Convention on how the Industrial nation can cut productions and clean their environmental pollution. We all remember how badly Hitler administration faked the world that they had moved over to 100% green farming by importing China poop, while the villages, as well as cities were cleaning the forests for cooking fuel. Isn’t that why China black listed People’s bank and triggered the bankruptcy.

  • 2
    1

The mired problem Anura might encounter at the start is “How do I tell my Child”; i.e. re-introducing the hardcore truth of too well known and too long plaquing local problems, unfortunately, which have gone beyond convincing the people suffering by them, by the reason of those problems are ever present in Langkang politics and additionally the people feeling as they are being true Sinhala Buddhists and believe that is how Lord Buddha advised them to live their lives and they never deviated from their Lords words, Anura has to point out to them that people are in problems and the problems are the current problems that they have learned to with them as normal and he wants to engage with them in solving those. If Anura wants to help people, Anura cannot escape from convincing the masses of that truth, by explaining it again and again, so they can be convinced these problems are solvable and have been solved in most parts of the world and people are happy there. Think about a society where no birth control practiced and the community believes that the unwanted children and the suffering associated with that situation is believed to be God’s gift, in order you to understand yourself the situation of the Sinhalese who have lived their lives for three generations under UNP-SLFP unions’ tyranny.

  • 2
    2

They believe Aanduwas’ tyrannies are Buddha’s gift so should not be attempted to get rid of it or tyrant Evils who claim them as Angels from Lord Buddha is not to be punished. If anybody outsiders attempt to talk these matters to Sinhalese, the defense of the tyrants is simple and readymade: They are Demulu Kottiya, Muslim Kottiya, Suthu Kottiya and they can propagate some even as Sinhala Kottiya. The tyrants have fully covered them from any logic or reasonings working with the civilians. Let me ask you a question “How should Anura start his talk to people? Is it like” : Mahajan, this is Lord’s son, Buddha’s Nephew; the purpose of my visit is to bring our Lord’s message to you that there is no Holy Koran on VAT18 Blasphemy” or can he start as “This earth and the lives on this may have been created by our lord, but all the laws are manmade and most of them are by tyrants, presents them as angels”. If you still have some difficulty in understanding the situation, go ahead and try to write an explanatory comment in CT for the Evil’s New Year’s Threat of” If anybody speaks against VAT18, they will be arrested and prosecuted under the fullest extent of PTA”. Isn’t he talking about the existence of a Holy Koran against people blaspheming the divine rule of VAT18?

Now Evil introduced VAT18 and threatened that if anybody talks about it, they will be arrested and tortured on the Fourth Floor, to the fullest extent of the PTA. How do you convince the people that it is not their need them be arrested and tortured for VAT18 opposition, it is only the Kleptocratic Lawmakers needs to arrest them, and people protesting for their political rights is something born with them as their fundamental rights and fundamental rights get invoked or get activated or become alive only by people voluntarily using them, but not surrendering to the tyrannical Aanduwas. One has to explain to the people that being arrested for opposing their right of rejecting VAT18 is not a sin even in Mahavamsa. They have to be told that even Gandhi was arrested and put in prison because he protested against the then Indian government. Anura needs to devise a practical campaign to teach the people to identify & vet the candidates who are willing to work for humanity from those who stand for their self-interest to win the election. If they are equipped to grasp candidates’ true nature, by making them move beyond the Holy Iron Domes being present in Langkang elections, then you can make the people identify the candidates who can go beyond and above their self-interest and who cannot, so they need to be defeated.

Sounds simple in theory, but the practice of it is very difficult. To test my prophecy, grab a copy of the Holy Koran VAT18 into an old building, make sure nobody sees you; then without making any noise tear one or two pages of that Holy VAT18 and get out of the building to see who the people were waiting for you outside the building. We know why Evil jumped ahead of all other candidates and accepted the PM and EP position, after all he in November 2019 was looking for a chance to get out of that serious responsibility of rebuilding the burned-out economy, by the Yahapalanaya administration. During NCM time we saw neither Old Rowdy nor Evil ready to jump into the unfathomed water of that time. During the coup, Old Rowdy attempted to hide under the shadow of his ex. Chitanta time home aid, the White Flag Murderer. Evil in turn was hiding under Old Rowdy’s shadow. Then why did Evil jump into this business, in July 2022, when the country many folds worse and was absolutely not in a manageable condition? He explained on German TV the reason for this, that such a difficult and unpleasant decision he was forced to take by himself. He said, “Read my lips, there will be no international Inquiry on Easter Sunday Sinhala Buddhist Jihadism.”

Evil=Ranil Wickremasinghe; isn’t that right? And Old Rowdy=Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Evil was the one who saved all the criminals on an earlier investigation, during the Yahapalanaya time, by a commission, whose members were ministers who were active participants of the Easter Sunday Jihadism. Then Hitler followed this investigation and sent 700 CIDs on punishment transfer only for the reason of that they might have known some internal secrets of Jihadism. Be aware, these CIDs faced that punishment not for investigating the 4/21 organizers against the wishes of the UNP-SLFP union, but for the mere suspicion that they might know something that would be difficult for the UNP-SLFP union to hide. In reality, these CIDs faced a situation worse than the Tamils faced under the PTO, under which any Tamil who was arrested (even with a false reason) was punished. These 700 CIDs were punished simply because they were police department employees. (Remember the judges’ comments who convicted New King as responsible for not having prevented the 4/21: “there were about 10,000 officials and politicians who did know about the 4/21, before the jihadis attacked on that day. (The scooping net CIDs faced was a much wider drag net than Tamils were scooped under PTA.) Evil took the presidential seat only to protect the criminals who could not be protected by punishing the 700 CIDs. That is the criminal threatening the people who are against Holy VAT18.

On German TV, when the interview was being broadcasted, Evil, from the media room negotiated with IMF that “if you want the IC to investigate the 4/21, you take my conditions for we deter China from Langkang, and if you let me to protect my acolytes without any investigation, then I take your conditions to deter China for your need.” That is how Evil negotiated the IMF’s second tranche, without submitting the restructuring plan, which was needed even for the first tranche. This is everything the entire world watched when the German TV broadcasted the interview in English Language. These are not talented diplomatic dealing, but really peeing the country’s skin and wrapping them for the protection from international criticism. Ranil had every opportunity to ask the IMF to give up the harsh and rigid rules over the people, instead could have volunteered to sign the Rome accord and let the international justice system take its course. He sent a message to the IMF, that I am willing to protect my partner, not my people. After his explicit portrayal of his intentions, he went to Washington. USAID’s President Samantha Power met Evil from a message from President Biden: “We are ready to do any help you need; we will be with you”. The IMF informed that it was willing to release the 2nd tranche without loan restructuring agreement.

Evil, in that interview, from the media room, stretched his both hands to IMF in Washington and asked, “which one you want”. IMF took the Money from one hand, & knocked out the gun that was on the other hand. That is Evil accepted IMF’s conditions (VAT18, EPF’s haircut…., social programs’ cut …….. If Evil had told the IMF from that media room “If you want me to deter China, I will not roster my people for your need to oust China from Lanka, you take my conditions; no negotiations;” then the 1).China who forced Old Rowdy to spend 100s of billion dollars in war and White Elephant Projects and 2).the Old Rowdy who did that destruction to the country by taking tens of billion dollars in commissions would have let their Amudes fly in the air of that media room for the spectators watch and giggle in that interview . That didn’t happen. Evil did not give that turn for the interview. But he asked for the guarantee from IMF heads that he would not be forced for international inquiry on 4/21 and he was given that when he went to Washington.

Now bogus pundits are threatening Anura that if he attempts to renegotiate the conditions of IMF, but let the Batalanda, Mullivaikkal & and economic criminals’ protection up in the air and they be investigated by the international countries, by the internationally agreed standards, then another tsunami will come and wipe out the Langkang that Anura would be ruling. Their contention is that the only possible way for Anura to stop the tsunami coming to Langkang is Anura following step by step rhythm and dance to the drum of the Central Bank Nandalala wants to play. That is why we said at the start of these remarks that the economic and finance problems are dynamic, the leader who wants to solve those must be dynamic and the solution must be dynamic. Solving economic & country’s financial problems is not about saving the Old Royal Rowdies and Batalanda criminals on the International Arena; neither is it a game of hiding in China’s Amude begging for the veto or surrendering to IMF seeking protection from bullying China. Remember, this Central Bank comedian has no loan restructure agreement with China yet. So, all the loan burdens that are going to be present in Anura’s government are present already and well and kicking alive in Evil’s administration, too. Though the Evil administration claims they have the upper hand, above Anura can, but they do not!

If these brainless donkey cheaters claims that they only know how to manage the loans they created, (by imposing VAT18 and robbing EPF) then I guarantee that Anura would know thousands of better ways to get out of this mess, if Anura would be willing to give up the UNP-SLFP criminals to face the local justice and thus dodge the international justice. This unguaranteed UN Veto of China is the one forcing Langkang mommy to stand nude in front of China offering her resources to be plugged in, feather by feather. Protecting the human right violations is only an unwanted sensational issue for the Mahavamsa over fed Sinhala Buddhists, by the team of jobless Kandy Ayatollahs. Other than that, in all modern countries, the unruly tyrant criminal leaders who caused savage damage to their own people are being forced to take international justice. There is no pride in that, but only not comprehended shame, which the Sinhala Buddhist cannot see themselves or would not like to understand if they were explained of it. Remember, all the UN criminal laws are first enforced by the criminals’ local governments, as per the international standards, unbiased within the local communities.

If there is no locally elected proper government in force in that country only UN agencies stretch out their guns. The UN always does whatever is good for its members. In May 2009, it was only fools who were fooled by Thero De Silva like game players, who claimed that they saved Langkang in UNHRC. They didn’t. Rather, Langkang got caught by China and its half-sister the IMF.

In effect what that Cuban communist did was he shackled Langkang to China’s balls to get out of UNHRC and now Evil is shackling Langkang to IMF’s balls to get out of China. In fact, still Langkang has not gotten out of the UNHRC hook, but additionally hooked itself to China’s and IMF’s balls. Now, I am really feeling a little bit discouraged to remind the readers that all these hero politicians stupidly bankrupted the country and had made 23 million people’s future gloomy.

There is a Panchatantra story about a crazy, desperate group of pigeons, which you all know. But still let me repeat it. Five pigeons and their group leader were flying from far away land to home. They all were hungry and feeling that if they didn’t see some food immediately, they all were going to fall from the sky and die. But they still have to cover a lot of distance to be at home. Alas, one of them spotted grade No.1, yummy grains just close by. That is, it. They shouted in one voice to their leader; “Boss, twist your rudder towards the grain heap.” He replied to the colleagues that it is something too good to be true. “We only need food, not death. Keep flying; follow my tail”.

Birds replied, “you have no idea how hungry we are” and they landed on the net that was spread over the grain heap. Now they called back the leader, who was still on the air “Boss come back, we are sorry, it is by hunger we disobeyed you. We have already suffered enough for disobeying your sagacious, insightful, erudite command. Save us please!”. He said I don’t need your oath on that, but it is true an error has happened. Let us act together and save all”. Then he too jumped into the net. The birds lost hope seeing the only last free one also had fallen in the net. He spoke in a firm, commanding tone to the birds “Friends, now if you die, I too will die here. But if I escape, we all escape from here. You can trust me without any doubt. I will be counting 1..2..3 and then I will shout ‘Pull’. You all should pull the net on the same instant.” Then he counted 1..2..3 and shouted pull. The hooks relented; the birds were in the air.

Trust is not created in the manner of our Koolukkum Paadi Kanchikkum padi’s techniques, our colleague Jehan PhD has written on the earlier page, which he wrote for EU’s checks. People should be confident enough that Anura will jump into the same ocean to save them when he wants to save them out of their trouble. Trust building is established by one’s normal, day to day life, not by learned tricky techniques, preached by Jehan PhD. Confidence building cannot not take place while the mothers in the land are jumping in water places with their children without knowing ways to feed them, husbands cowardly running away abandoning their desperate families, the women selling themselves to the Microfinancing bullies, kids are stealing to pay school fees, a birth below donkeys brought multi sovereign ring to the dick of the pet and showed to the hungry mouths and hoped they feel satisfied. Remember, Marie Antenette agreed the hungry people must eat something and she suggested if they can’t find anything good to eat, they can eat the poor man’s food, the cake. In the chaotic situation of the kingdom, she had proved that she was still a passionate mother, and she cared about the poor in her own brought up ways. But the Medamulana beast didn’t!

Anura should not change his course and abandon the people for the IMF’s Nobel Prize or Chinese handsome commission deposited in Western investment banks. Then only Anura can keep the masses cooperating and helping him though 5 or even 10 years of harsh winter they are about to go through. During those hopeless times, the people had to come and console Anura, “If Robert Bruce can do, you can do it too”. Considering the civilization’s growth achieved by the modern world from the time of Kennedy’s departure, Kennedy’s words of “Ask not what the country can do for you, ask what you can do for the country” must applied in that tone to the citizens of the country. Call for their voluntary contribution. Don’t threaten them with PTA and guns that “if they do not tighten their belt with the wink of eye, but protest……..!”
