30 SLFP Snubs To Sit In The Opposition

Around 30 Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) parliamentarians who are against the national government created by their party and the United National Party (UNP) are planning to sit in the opposition.

Currently these 30 MP’s are holding talks with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, according to reliable sources.

Kumara Welgama - MahindaAccording to an MP from this group they will act as a separate group in parliament.

The Kalutara district SLFP MP Kumara Welgama is tipped to be the leader of this SLFP dissident faction which will operate with the blessings of Rajapaksa.

However, according to the MP, Welgama will be only a figurehead as the true leader of this rebel SLFP faction will be Rajapaksa.

The leaders of other UPFA affiliated parties such as Wimal Weerawansa, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dinesh Gunewardena and Udaya Gammanpila too will support this group.

Meanwhile in a move to quell the actions of the dissident group, the SLFP leadership has said that anybody who acts against party wishes will seize to exist as electoral division organizers.

However, according to the SLFP MP this will not deter the group from going ahead with their planned actions.

The group is to inform their decision in writing to the party leader, President Maithripala Sirisena shortly.

The speaker during a recent meeting with party leaders announced that he will consider all 201 SLFP and UNP MP’s as part of the national government.

RE: 30 SLFP Snubs To Sit In The Opposition

What are they going to do?

    Just sit/ Do nothing?

Can they Fish? Climb Coconut tress? Can They plough Paddy fields?

We need to start the Mao Tse Tung Cultural Revolution.

Send then for re-education for 5 years in the farms and the sea.

    Cultural Revolution

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_Revolution

The Cultural Revolution, formally the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, was a social-political movement that took place in the People’s Republic of China from 1966 until 1976. Set into motion by Mao Zedong, then Chairman of the Communist Party of China, its stated goal was to preserve ‘true’ Communist ideology in the country by purging remnants of capitalist and traditional elements from Chinese society, and to re-impose Maoist thought as the dominant ideology within the Party. The Revolution marked the return of Mao Zedong to a position of power after the Great Leap Forward. The movement paralyzed China politically and significantly affected the country economically and socially.

The Revolution was launched in May 1966, after Mao alleged that bourgeois elements had infiltrated the government and society at large, aiming to restore capitalism. He insisted that these “revisionists” be removed through violent class struggle. China’s youth responded to Mao’s appeal by forming Red Guard groups around the country. The movement spread into the military, urban workers, and the Communist Party leadership itself. It resulted in widespread factional struggles in all walks of life. In the top leadership, it led to a mass purge of senior officials, most notably Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping. During the same period Mao’s personality cult grew to immense proportions.

Millions of people were persecuted in the violent struggles that ensued across the country, and suffered a wide range of abuses including public humiliation, arbitrary imprisonment, torture, sustained harassment, and seizure of property. A large segment of the population was forcibly displaced, most notably the transfer of urban youth to rural regions during the Down to the Countryside Movement. Historical relics and artifacts were destroyed. Cultural and religious sites were ransacked.

Mao officially declared the Cultural Revolution to have ended in 1969, but its active phase lasted until the death of the military leader Lin Biao in 1971. After Mao’s death and the arrest of the Gang of Four in 1976, reformers led by Deng Xiaoping gradually began to dismantle the Maoist policies associated with the Cultural Revolution. In 1981, the Party declared that the Cultural Revolution was “responsible for the most severe setback and the heaviest losses suffered by the Party, the country, and the people since the founding of the People’s Republic.”[1]

“The leaders of other UPFA affiliated parties such as Wimal Weerawansa, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dinesh Gunewardena and Udaya Gammanpila too will support this group.”

Siri, Ranil and Chandrika should tell those SLFP ministers to put their house in order and come back to their ministries and rob the country. SLFP/UPFA cannot have both being part of the national government and in the opposition, both at the same time.

If Ranil/Sirisena sack the UPFA ministers obviously they will find a way to reign on the others for they wouldn’t want to be left out the cash cow.

Alternatively UNP can request 31 of their MPs to sit in the opposition and Ranil should appoint himself as the opposition leader. At parliamentary debate Ranil can present government policies and then go to the opposition benches and ask question as the opposition leader.

It would be fun watching him crossing the floor several times during parliament sitting. It should be telecast live.

Would Ranil be entitled to twice the perks and privileges as Prime minister and opposition leader?

Medamulana Meeharaka and Snubss Damage Done at Mattala…

Roaming elephant poses threat on the Mattala – Hambantota road (Watch Video)

    http://goo.gl/HVmgQE

A three-wheeler travelling on the Mattala – Hamabantota road came under a wild elephant attack in the Kaliyapura area on Friday morning.

A child and two others were travelling in the three-wheeler at the time of the attack. Persons who travel on the Mattala – Hambantota main road have been very vigilant in their travels these days, as reports of the presence of wild elephants roaming the area, have constantly emerged.

A wild elephant chased the three wheeler in a bid to attack it as it went to drop a child to school this morning. On seeing the approaching elephant, the driver of the three wheeler attempted to take the vehicle to the other side of the road, but this resulted in the three wheeler veering off the road and toppling over.

The attempt made by the elephant to attack the three wheeler was foiled by the drivers of two tipper trucks carrying sand, who used their vehicles to block the path of the oncoming beast.

The four-year-old nursery school student, his father, and another person travelling in the three- wheeler sustained injuries in the incident, and are currently receiving treatment at the Hambantota General Hospital.

Residents say that two three-wheelers met with an accident a few weeks ago as they attempted to escape this very elephant. Our correspondent says that the an increasing threat exists as this elephant has been roaming the area for a while, attacking vehicles that travel on the Mattala-Hambantota road.

If this group believes that they have the support of people why can’t they leave from SLFP and join with Weeraweanse.s party?

Even Yahapalana Architect Monk Sobitha is pissed off to the max about this “gigs for the mates” who were rejected at the Polls.

He now says they ( Sira and Batta obviously ) should have a National List for A/L and O/L as well.

So that the people who fail also can get a gig..

Although the Monk is not really seriously interested in our O/L and A/L dropouts who are the Dalit kids in the main ,I am all for it..

Because , even the few Dalits who make the cut .to sit least OL can’t get a pass because their schools don’t have the gear or the tutors

And the parents don’t have the dosh to pay for private tuition.

Thanks to Sobitha . Mahindodaya Scheme which was giving the Dapit kids a fair go was stopped by Batalanada.

If this group just sit in opposition their action is not going to do any harm to the government of MS and Ranil. No different to dissidents crossing over to vote with the opposition on crucial issues.

However if this 30 or so dissidents should form a new party, such as calling themselves the Reformed SLFP (sic) they are bound to create a crisis for MS and Ranil as they could challenge the government in court for the title of opposition leadership.

Hmm, My3 seems to have dug a hole for himself with this National Government. He could have easily navigated the country with the UNP running the show. Now he has tainted himself by bribing known thieves and robbers to be in his cabinet of National Government.

    Yahapalanaya is unravelling fast.

Really. This does not look like good governance, and was a really unnecessary complication.

What is the big desperation to serve the people? You had 10 years during which you robbed and murdered people at will and wasted the opportunity the people gave you and the armed forces gave you by winning the war.

I guess the attraction has little to do with the country and the people but the MONEY!!!

Expel them from the SLFP. Let them make all the noise they can from the opposition. A cancer has to be treated and surgically excised, if possible.

      Dr.RN

The cancer has already spread to the government of Sirisena/Ranil. The worst of the cancer germ in the form of S.B. Dissanayake is now populating the body called National Government. Too late to excise now.

A party that was not there to contest the election, but subsequently formed cannot be appointed as the Leader of the Opposition. If one can be appointed from the new party, then every MP in the Parliament today can register a party and claim for Party Leader recognition. Rajapakse is trying very hard to keep his “Banana Republic” alive.

This is what New King negotiated on the three secret meeting he had with the old King.

Ihe deal seems to be if America give up on them, opposition leadership will go to Hambanttota. From there, they will work it out how to change all the current Dr.Jekylls as Mr.Hydes. China has already started to change the Matale Paddy Port as People Republic China port.

But the Sinhalese seems to prefer it as not even Paddy Port but as asphalt carpet to dry the red chilies.

If the Sinhala Buddhist are normal people, the Sinhala Intellectual would have born as Nagarika Tharmapala and Athuddu Gemunu, instead of they are being current form of Anakarika Tharmapala and Thudugemunu.

What exactly are these 30MPs against?

      Davidson Panabokke

“What exactly are these 30MPs against?”

They are against themselves, if you think about it.

In fact they can no longer stand idly when a Tamil is being accepted as the leader of opposition.

If you are a smart ass patriot like them you will have no problem agreeing with them. Since you are not, you raise unnecessary, unpatriotic … questions.

“The speaker during a recent meeting with party leaders announced that he will consider all 201 SLFP and UNP MP’s as part of the national government.”

They are not expected to be slaves, they will speak up when the disagree with any government decsicion. Just at the pro govt SLFP are expected to raise objections when any wrong decision is taken, so will the “Welgama Group” -they are well within their rights to do so. They are representing the people who voted for them.

Everyone must accept democracy and peaceful democratic means.

You raise an important point. Any violence or breaking of laws has to be handled by our law enforcement agencies. These must be of course supported at the highest levels. If this does not happen, there is no point blaming anyone else.

Just as an Honorable Minister raised the possibility of armed struggle, the ‘Government’ minsiters in parliament should put pressure on the UPFA opposition to commit to a non-violent approach. The other thing they should be pressured to do is to come up to a peaceful alternate solution to the National Question.

I am sure they have the political maturity to do this?

Now we know why some of the clowns and rogues of the previous regime was accommodated in the so called cabinet (Cupboard).

Otherwise the numbers with MARA would have swelled to double this number. That does not mean that the YAHAPALANAYA close their eyes on ongoing investigations of MURDER AND PLUNDER OF THE STATE by the previous regime. Investigations should continue and justice meted out, even if they are holding positions in the present National Government.

There is no mandate from the people to either MY3 or Ranil to steer away from that solemn pledge given to the voters.

It is obvious that the bring back Mara group is behind this game. They have waited for the Sept 14th to 30 th , period to launch this ambitious project. They want to break the national government and bring back MaRa as the official leader of SLFP.

This is the result of not taking appropriate actions against MaRa group and their cronies despite JVP s complaits.

Mara cannot be brought back. Shut up and enjoy the seats and perks. Open our mouth and go against the party orders and you get kicked out on your backside for that is the law of the land. That is the law created by your own crooked CJ. Old CJ ruled to allow crossovers into government not the other way around. They cannot break away for they will loose their seats.
