A Letter Of Appreciation To Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka

By V. Kanthaiya

Dear Dr.Dayan Jayatillake (Dr.D J),

I have requested Colombo Telegraph to publish this letter on their website with the hope you would read it. This is because I was not able to get your present address and also I was not sure whether these days you are staying there.

Dr.D J, you are great. In fact, I could have started, “I write this letter in appreciation of the great service rendered by you for…” etc. But it would look like the letter is drafted by a personal secretary of a Managing Director/CEO and I am not a secretary.

Dayan Jayatilleka

Dayan Jayatilleka

I tell you why I write this letter. A couple of days ago, when I was using the men’s rest room, I overheard two gentlemen discussing an article you had written on the Election Day (Trust me! people really discuss your articles in restrooms). I don’t know much about the content of your article but I am sure it must be very powerful, as one of those gentlemen commented that you are not a political scientist but merely a political stripper whose job is to please the pay masters. At this point I was tantalized to interrupt them and argue that you are an intellectual of immeasurable scale. To my greatest disappointment, before I pulled my trousers on and came out of the toilet cabin, both had left.

That was the moment I decided I should write a letter of appreciation to you to express my solidarity with your views. Also I would like to tell you that no “true” Sri Lankan would accept the comment that you are a “political stripper”, because I have seen so many strippers in my life, both in the Hollywood movies and in the “unholy” videos I downloaded from the internet and none of them looks like you. I think this point itself is enough to prove the world that you are not a political stripper, but a political scientist indeed.

I don’t understand why the world or perhaps the Colombo Telegraph readers want you to be Anti-Mahinda Rajapaksa. Everybody has the right to support whoever they like. It doesn’t need to be based on a justification. For example, does anybody ask a die-hard Sumana Gomez fan why he is crazy about her? No. Perhaps that emotional bond is beyond justification or we as a civilized society accept one’s right to choose without any rationale.

Your case is also something like that. I support Mahinda Rajapaksa, because of his joie de vivre look and for me Maithripala Sirisena looks like a school principal, not like a national leader who would give me a motor cycle at a subsidized price. People continuously attack you as they think all the intellectuals should make their decisions purely based on ethics. Well, that’s for intellectuals. I mean, this time you have acted as Dayan Jayatilleka, not Dr.Dayan Jayatilleka the political scientist.

I, as a common man of Sri Lanka, strongly believe that nobody has the moral right to call you a hypocrite. I would use a biblical example (John 8:1 -11) to support my argument. A woman caught in adultery was brought to Jesus. The crowd wanted the woman stoned to death, a punishment for the sin she had committed. Jesus told the crowd only the ones who have never sinned can stone the woman. You know something; No such man was there to stone the woman.

Dear D J, you also live in the same society. Whoever criticizes you is not pure. They do all kinds of sins. They consume alcohol, they smoke, they lie, they cheat and above all they watch the banned movie “Flying Fish” on YouTube, and these are the people who comment about you in the political forums, most of which are edited out by the moderators.

I consider you the one, and the only God sent savior to protect our motherland from the UNHCR, which is an NGO, funded by the CIA. In 2009, you stood bravely and fought against the malicious Madam Pillay and protected the country. But the country betrayed you. The very country you fought to save, removed you from your diplomatic position. It was too late when everybody realized that was an enormous mistake and we started to lose every battle in Geneva thereafter.

Your theory of moral high ground is the one and only convincing model explaining how we won the great humanitarian operation without any civilian casualty. As per your theory, it could be understood that our brave troops went to war with a T-56 rifle in one hand and the “Learn International Human Rights in 30 days” book in the other. They never fired a single bullet even on the enemy positions. When the LTTE fired on them, they kept on chanting the clauses of the international human rights. This led our to troops to achieve the moral high ground status, and the ruthless LTTE cadres started to feel super guilty and took the cyanide capsules they were given by their leader. You explained this in the May 2009, UNHCR sessions to the world and as a result the western imperial forces couldn’t pass the resolution against our motherland. You also proved the world that the civilians’ death during the great humanitarian operations was purely due to the allergic reactions to the fairness cream which the people in Vanni were using, and not due to the military operation.

Another theory you have used to counter the so called human right activists’ claim of 40,000 civilians killed, is the Materiality concept. This, your diplomatic peers say you have taken from the financial audit principles. The materiality concept allows a particular margin of error in the account books. Generally, amounts grossing less than 5% of the Profit before Tax are considered to be immaterial to financial auditors.

The average number of deaths per annum in the world is said to be 56.6 Mn. You proved to the so called human rights activists that the number, 40,000 people (0.00007 % of the total deaths in a year) killed as per the estimate given by UN is not only immaterial, but also completely negligible. The contemporary political science scholars say this is the argument which made western and neo Zionist forces spellbound and speechless. These are the same forces which conspired to remove you from your position of permanent representative to the UN in Geneva.

Every year, hundreds of people go missing in the USA. UFOlogists claim that most of these people are abducted by aliens. The US government blatantly denies this claim and does not take any legal action against these aliens, citing lack of evidence. In the USA, Aliens operate with total impunity.

In Sri Lanka, the same aliens abduct people from minority communities in Unidentified white Four wheeled Objects (some people call these “white vans”), and the hypocritical USA and the neo Zionists along with the neo separatist Tamil Diaspora blame the Sri Lanka security forces for these disappearances. This is part of the mudslinging campaign by both USA and Israel, as they always feel jealous about our valiant armed forces and their inability to defeat the jihadists in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Another accusation leveled against our motherland and the former Rajapaksa government is that the Tamils from Vanni were forcibly taken in busses and herded in detention camps, fenced with barbed wire, in May 2009, an act denying freedom of movement ensured by the constitution. This is a serious allegation, however you fought against this with your wisdom. You convinced the international community that the so called detention camps are, in fact welfare camps where those poor ‘not so refined’ Tamils were rehabilitated and taught how to apply the fairness cream on their face so that they would look nice and cheerful like the people in the other part of Sri Lanka.

Most of the people in the country do not understand why the west and the UNHCR make a lot of fuss about Tamils in the Northern provinces. The Sri Lanka government has given the youth volunteer teacher posts and adequate samurdhi payments to buy fairness creams. Now they are given the Yarl Devi also so that they can go on picnics to other parts of the country. Tamils in the north are more than happy, but the neo capitalist elements in the west try to portray them as unhappy and try to create a new world order which is in favour of their capitalist agenda.

Presently the country is facing another severe threat from the so called human rights organizations. These NGOs start screaming whenever someone digging the ground for construction work finds a human skeleton. Finding of human remains is an ordinary event which has also happened in other countries such as France, Italy and Russia in the past. The west says those skeletons belong to homo erectus, Neanderthal and homo sapiens. However the same west says the human skeletons found in Sri Lanka are victims of war crimes.

Now we have found couple of these mass graves after the end of the war in Mannar and Matale. Probably the Mannar mass grave should be the burial ground of those killed in the battle of “Ramayana” between the Indian king Ram and the Sri Lankan King Ravana. I can say this with great responsibility, because the Tamils who used to live in this area don’t bury their deceased in the vicinity of their Thiruketheeswaram Kovil. This Kovil is said to be built around the period BC 600. Thus we can logically conclude that whoever is buried there must have been buried before BC 600.

Dear Dr. D J, this is where the country needs you. We need your wisdom. We need your eloquence in English, which the present diplomats in Sri Lanka’s foreign missions lack. We, the patriotic forces of the country are with you and will be with you forever. Never ever worry about what people say about you now, because the future generations will be saying this; Galileo Galeili the scientist and Dr.Dayan Jayatilleka the political scientist were humiliated by their critics, but history cherished them.

With heartfelt respect

“as one of those gentlemen commented that you are not a political scientist but merely a political stripper whose job is to please the pay masters”

This is nothing new. Anybody with Common sense would have Figured it out, just like they would have figured it out about Mr. Malinda Rajapaksa, the actor and liar.

This is so sacarstic- and good ONE I would say. However, Kelaniya MERVIN is disqualified in the taking part of the current process, DJ has no right to take part in there – nobody would take him serious. DJ S GENES ARE MORE SELFISH THAN APPEARED TO BE.

    From quoted from above:

“Dear Dr. D J, this is where the country needs you.
WHY DO WE NEED DJ KIND OF SELFISH PERSONALITIES ?
We need your wisdom. WHAT WISDOM YOU THINK DJ HAS IF HE WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FACTS THAT MR WOULD DEFINITLY DEFEAT. HAD HE OWN SUCH A WISDOM, NOT ASTROLOGERS BUT THIS MR KNOW-ALL SHOULD HAVE PREDICTED THAT. We need your eloquence in English, which the present diplomats in Sri Lanka’s foreign missions lack. ANYONE FROM UK REGARDLESS OF THE EDUCATION OBTAINED POSSESS LANGUAGE SKILLS. We, the patriotic forces of the country are with you and will be with you forever. Never ever worry about what people say about you now, because the future generations will be saying this; Galileo Galeili the scientist and Dr.Dayan Jayatilleka the political scientist were humiliated by their critics, but history cherished them.”

Yes Saman – in common parlance there is a saying in the country ( kathakoranawa depeththenma- talking from both ends). I have the feeling until that Aljaseera Interview the former Prez ahd two years ago, DJ most known Know-All of former regime, had every guts to even call MR without any fears. For some reasons his too should have been threatened that could well be him to fall back on praising the man. Else, perks or the like as was the case for Vasidewa or other turn-impotent former heavy weights could be the reasons. All in all I have the feeling even if DJ and the like would stay go against Ranil or others, there should be a path by which the experience these former diplomats collected to be discussed on a healthy forum. If the latter would nt work – so much of valuable, decisive kind of information about the countries could be away from today s diplomats.

Yes indeed – towards the end of mid 2009, backlicking nature towards MR was not that embedded in the person- DJ. As the tricks played by MR regime was based on by good or bad to achieve what they the clan (whose brains were filled with all abusive stuff rather than vision)thought for the moment right. However backstabbers won the battle- being in the parliament and among the people – meaning there were so many things were distributed to bribe their votes; people enjoyed getting them, but voted for the MY3.

If only DJ did not lie and promise in 2009 UNHCR meeting in Geneva (he made many nations to congratulate Srilanka for getting rid of Ltte by killing thousands of civilinas), MaRa would have never changed. He would have been the same MaRa who fought for human rights.

“FANTASTIC”. You said it well Kanthaiya. This “Puss-Pundit” Dayan thinks that he is the best Political Analyst in Sri Lanka. What he does not understand, being a “Puss-Pundit”, is that he is a “Political Spin Doctor” and a paid servant of Rajapakse.

Dr.DJ the political scientist (?) is receiving too much attention out proportion to his grey matter. Throught he has been a man of all seasons. Remember he was a member of EPLRF and later a minister in Varatharajapperumal’s (now in exile) council of ministers in 1988? At that time the EPLRF was notorious for killing people, abducting businesmen for ransom etc. Unfortunately for the political scientist his favourite god failed him. He lost the elections despite Dr.DJ giving his vote to him. He voted for him because Rajapaksa was a reincarnation of Duttu Gemenu! So he thought! I wonder what he is teaching to his students at the Colombo University? The Thamils of Thamil Nadu will take over the North and drive the Sinhalese into the Indian Ocean? Land and police powers should not be devolved, although they are in the constitution, because it will lead to separation. The Thamils will cut the land mass beyond Vavuniya and join same with Thamil Nadu! It is sad people like DJ becomes an object of ridicule in the eyes of many not withstanding his high flown flowery English!

Good presentation in the same language the so called political scientist DJ understands.
We all agree thst each one is entitled to his own opinion but however DJ pretends that only he understsnds local and world politics and readers and listeners are all stupid. In the process, he tries to distort the facts eg the war and loss of human lives in the north.
As much as MR and company were confident thst they would win the elections on the 8th by
Hook or crook, DJ, too, would have had wild imaginations of victory and he would be posted to the overseas missions, like UN, USA, UK etc.

Divine intervention all efforts, tricks, by MR’s gang failed miserably and thrown out.

Recently DJ announced he would not write in the English media but another broken promise by this lunatic.

I wish to add some more thoughts to Kanthaiya’s letter albeit they may not be in ” appreciation”.
Dr DJ will be complimented by you know who for resurrecting in a recent article to the Colombo Telegraph ( CT) the now forgotten pre 1948 Fifty Fifty demand of the then Tamil Congress leader. It’s only DJ who could have thought of insidiously stirring up anti Tamil feelings because of his disappointment with the recent Presidential elections where the minorities, especially the Tamils, voted against the sitting President in large numbers. In fact, in his article to CT he misled the readers about Sumanthiran’s overall position about the condition of the Tamils in the North/ North East Sri Lanka.

  • 4

Very interesting article, but I am wondering why Mahinda Rajapakse got only some 70,000 votes out of a total of 6 lakhs votes in the north. If he gave them the al Devi, and the North people got everything from the Mahinda Rajapakse govt, the results should have been in favour of Mahina.

As for this Geneva Human Rights violations, and Navi Pillai, We have to wait and see. When March comes for the sessions, I am positive everything will be in favour of Sri lanka.

As for Mr. Dayan Jayatilleke, well we cannot afford to loose him. Let him be in the fore front to assist Sri Lanka.

And as for the person who wrote this article, he says that he is an ordinary person, I dont think so, he is well read, knowledgeable, and is a well educated person.

    Dear Mr Kanthiya,

I write to reciprocate your letter of appreciation.

With foes–OK, critics–who share the views that you hold on our War of National Liberation and Reunification against the fascist-terrorist Tigers, I don’t need friends.

So, thanks…and keep up the good work.

    • 4
      4

      Dr Dayan Jayatilleka types:

      “fascist-terrorist Tigers”

Could anyone in this forum shed some light on this often used phrase. I never understood and none of the great and the good have adequately explained away the meaning of it, attributes, ………

      ” I don’t need friends.”

Good, has he ever had friends?

“So, thanks…and keep up the good work.”

Dayan writes in order to amuse himself.

Kanthiya wrote this piece to amuse the wider readership and has definitely done contributed to world of humour. The ones who didn’t enjoy reading this article can normally be classified under tight-a**e.

“our War of National Liberation and Reunification”

Was it our war? MR said it was Hindia’s war that they fought not just ones but twice on NDTV. Dayan is implying that MR lied.

National Liberation from whom? And replaced it with what, Kleptocracy, potential but failed dictatorship, tinpot or Polpot?

Didn’t EPRLF Pathmanaba tell Dayan that they too stood for National Liberation from Sinhala/Buddhist state? Probably he didn’t ask Pathmaba didn’t tell.

What did Pathmanaba mean by National Liberation?

What about war on national liberation of people against a genocidal Mahinda regime that massacred over 40,000 innocent Tamil civilians and a coup to massacre another 40,000 Sinhalese to creat a family owned kingdom.

    • 4
      2

      DR DJ,

Satirical writing is the best way to expose your veiled racism and blatant hypocrisy. You wrote that majority of the majority voted for Rajapaksa and you lauded that MS victory is not a victory of the Sinhala people or to this effect. However, erudite analysis proved that the Sinhala vote base was split almost down the middle. Nevertheless, for one who is ostensibly advocating one-nation chose highlighting spurious voting patterns to score cheep and sour points. Let’s face it squarely, you comprehensively got it wrong and you had to eat your own words!

MR stood on a racist platform appealing to the Sinhala Buddhist voters by regurgitating racist lies about foreign conspiracy theories. You stood by them even after many authentic proofs that the Rajapaskas were behind the BBS gang. You were unambiguously in the know that MR was promoting Sinhalasation of the N&E. You knew that, there were vast amount of corruptions and embezzlements afoot. you chose to look the other way because MR is a Sinhala Buddhist Champion and was working in the interest of the Sinhala people!

You over looked all the antics of the Rajapacsas but very quick tried to exploit the statements issued by both RW and Mangala! You have nothing positive to say about the democratic changes that have happened after the elections. You have made no comments about the alleged coup attempt. You have not uttered a word about the new civilian governor for the North. What a man you are?

    • 1
      1

SO DJ gets it. I thought in his present state of mind, he might have some difficulties. If you could do the home we give, read all the comments before starting your next rubbish.

When you feel vulnerable, you obviously flock the dead horse LTTE, but completely forgot about what you had written in early eighties. That kind of U turns is the reason kind of your articles get more comments. We don’t expect you to think our way but, the altitude your moral high ground was far high than we have had those days. You defended right of self determination and sounded like oppressed people should rebel to get the rights etc. My suggestion is as you indicated a few articles ago, take a break and go through the articles you wrote then. Talking about ethical standards. As this writer said you are not even writing as DJ not Dr.DJ. Mervin Silva wasn’t a Dr, but even MR has had a lot of respect, but in your case even Gotta said something of you. That tells it all. Take a break.

Hey Dayan, as my name suggests I am a Tamil from the north. When I grew up as a child I personally wanted to take up arms against the hegemony of the successive racist Lankan governments. You are a racist to the core, therefore you will never see why the Tamils took up arms. I hated the LTTE for what they did later on. But nobody hated them when they were created due to people like you. Unification of the country, bloody idiot!!!! What unification are you talking of? The whole country was split up by racists like you. You disgust me. You are nothing but a vile racist. I understand people change, but you have remained the same as you were born. You will never see the hardships the minorities have gone through. Your master, robbed, pillaged, plundered, murdered, assassinated, abducted………and decimated the once proud people of the country. Yet, you stand there and spew poison from your filthy mouth.[Edited out]

Tamil from the north East Pakistan

“You are a racist to the core, therefore you will never see why the Tamils took up arms.”

Dayan owes his life to EPRLF. He slept, eat, shared Pathmanaba’s bed for considerable time in the 1980s. He was a minister in the now defunct North East provincial council under V Perumal.

As a wannabe young revolutionary he supported EPRLF in their so called national liberation struggle. He found it was not a profitable profession support Tamils.

He switched sides and binned his ideology(?) or binned his ideology(?) and switched sides. He did not have any problem with his principles for he never had any. He embraced Premadasa and horned his war mongering skills. His war mongering skills helped him to find a job within MR’s household.

Now he has become a great fan of Sajith.

By the way RP & MR both had same Rottweilers. One of the Rottweiler barked in Tamil and the other was bilingual.

They’re on this side or that side from birth to death and do not see issues objectively.DJ is an exception in our society who’s key attributes have been mentioned in the article. This country would be richer to have more DJ’s in our society.

Who is this V. Kanthaiya (not V Kandiah)?

Is it his 80 year old paternal uncle Neville De Silva who was the politically appointed by Bogollagama as Deputy High Commissioner for the UK?

Disgraceful public letter that describe DJ as an intellectual. The people who voted for the regime change in Sri Lanka have better intellect than this pseudo intellectual who is a scatter brain and has nothing else to do except scribble as he feels. This is his hobby.

This writer got his thoughts while pissing and now pissing off the intelligent people who voted for the change in Sri Lanka. it would have been better if he had masturbated in the toilet after his frustration of not seeing the two chatters.

I can only tell you- why don’t you piss off you rogue Kathaiya without making any more nonsensical write-ups of such in the future.

This means DJ ‘s diahrrea have affected also ones going to piss -in those quiet moment not allowing them to urinate anymore. Whoever K may be his style of writing hints the CT readership to see it beyond when passing their comments on DJ’s articles. To me, I have made it clear to me, DJ was a good guy, but bad influence has turned him an another abusive person since those who stand by the abusive are also criminals.

There seems to be a few Dim-Wits such as Thiru, Mallaiyuran and Foxy Lady who cannot understand “tongue-in-cheek”. They are criticizing this writer (Kanthaiya) due to their ignorance in not able to understand sarcasm.
