A New Democratic Beginning & The Rejection Of The Politics Of Hate

By Mahinda Rajapaksa

Mahinda Rajapaksa

The UNP-UPFA government came to an end as the result of the UPFA leaving the coalition. The responsibility of appointing a new government then fell on the President. I was invited to accept the position of Prime Minister with a view to forming a new government. Today, our country is in a state of uncertainty. Details of a plot to assassinate the President and the former Defence Secretary have come to light. Those involved in this conspiracy are being exposed by their own actions. A wave of crime has hit the country and the criminal underworld is on the rise.

The economy of the country is deteriorating by the day. The value of the Rupee has fallen alarmingly.  Our country has been downgraded by the credit rating agencies.  The people are oppressed by the ever rising cost of living. The Central Bank bond scam of the UNP government has resulted in a doubling of the interest rate and the ordinary people and businesses alike have been severely affected. In the meantime, the UNP was engaged in a quest to sell off valuable state assets and enterprises to foreign companies.

I was aware that at this moment of national peril, the people expected our leadership and protection. Hence, I accepted the invitation extended to me by the President to assume the position of Prime Minister. We will eschew the politics of hate and set up an interim government that will protect the human rights of all citizens, that will protect the independence of the judiciary and establish law and order in the country. I invite all political parties represented in Parliament to join us in this endeavour. I also invite the people of all communities and religions – Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Christians and the followers of Islam to participate in this very necessary political exercise.

The primary objective of the political party leaders and parliamentarians who have joined me is to immediately hold the Provincial Councils elections that had been postponed continuously, and also to call a Parliamentary election as soon as possible so as to give the people the opportunity to vote for a program that will bring the country out of the all-encompassing economic, political and social crisis that it is now in.

Everybody knows that someone else has written this lord of shit in your name. You don’t either have a knowledge on the economy or a vision to take country forward. You and that “Suththara Puncha” has done the biggest damage to the Country. You know only one thing. Thuggery is the key word in your administration. Suththarapuncha has already betrayed the 6.25 Million people who voted for him and singing Byla.

“You did all this to protect you and your family from prosecution and we know that.”

This is the exact reason. ………… and this is what lethargic Ranil and the dormant UNP propaganda-machine should be shouting from the rooftops.

Idiotic Ranil should not let the illegal coup-leaders/power-grabbers take the moral high ground ………… but I’m not holding my breath for Ranil to rise to the occasion

Lankans are euphoria junkies ……….. every time a government change they sing and dance …….. and in 6 months they want the previous side back

There is an economic tsunami approaching – it’s just not the Lankan rupee that is depreciating rapidly; just look to neighbouring Indian rupee. When it hits the fan Sirisena/Mahinda will be holding the bag. All US$ denominated debt obtain at cheap-rates will go up not just because of the rising US rates but because of the depreciating rupee as well ……… it’s a double whammy ………. faced not just by SL but most of the emerging markets.

Many countries will be seriously considering sanctions against SL ………… if they deem Sirisena’s actions were unconstitutional.

The last non-patriot still standing ……… writing from the last refuge :))

Sirisena was caught by the tricks being played by them.
He thought only about his candidacy for the next Pre Election.

There he just ignored all the mandate given to him during the previous election. No matter UNPrs sacrificed a lot, he thought.. only way out to protect his presdiency until 2025 is to make that FAKE Premier appointment with POWER greedy Mahinda Jarapakashe.

In the same time, Mahinda had been strugglling whether or not to say yes to Gotler who had been paving ways through his ” eliya” programme that heshould be the candidate for next election.
Namal baby is not yet age wise matured to face it, so long Namal Baby becomes over 35 yrs, it does not matter for him to bear the presidency by someone out of his family. If that would be passed to Gota, that would in the same time, block the path to Namal baby .
This struggle was there from the day one.
These men are power greedy and they do have power struggle among Rajpakshe siblings.
All in all, now by passing it to MOda Sirisena, Rajapkshe feels that he is relieved.
He did not need to have any conflicts between Gota either.. there he can say, … it is the people that want Sirisena to be the president… ha haha.
But for sure Sirisena woul dnever win it..
No means he will become the next Prez:
Sirisena has proved how stupid and inhuman he has been.

I wish you all the best my dear Honourable Prime Minister.
However, I still doubt the genuineness of the President. He didn’t do this for the country but to take revenge from Ranil using you as a scapegoat. Only last week his SLFP faction supported the Bill to compensate terrorists while JO (43) voted against it respecting people’s mandate.
There is no doubt your government will have JO heroes. But if you form the government with the help,of TNA separatists, I am afraid I cannot extend my support. Didn’t we condemn Ranil for the same move in the NCM not long ago?
I still believe that this position was forced on you by Maithri as the Chairman/SLFP.
And as you say, if there was a threat to his life, a conclusion based on a recording released to the public in installments by a Police informant, the President had the capacity to call for an investigation exercising Presidential powers. Did he do that? I don’t think so.
I wish you all the very best for all your noble thoughts and future endeavours for the best interest of our motherland.
However, I don’t trust the President. You shouldn’t either. I feel like there could be a backlash and I’m sure the President is aware of it.
    This is to the President:
Mr. President, I strongly believe that leaders should be elected to office based on people’s mandate, not based on President’s prerogative or through constitutional coups. Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was deserved to be appointed as the Prime Minister, not now, but after the election in August 2015. Now, that you have done it amidst a crisis while there is another Prime Minister in office, it is your utmost duty and responsibility to protect his (Mahinda’s) dignity and self-respect.

          Champa,
then tell us as to why you need to be that servile to Rajapkashes ?
How many of the populace have been hurt by Rajapakshes in this country.
Just forget war times, but after that ? Has RW ever done the kin dof things to lanken folks ?
Alone today, they have just started – to create pre 2015 style shootings and thugish activities with the guards of Arjuna Ranathunga.
I think Arjuna is a not a corrupted person. He has done good services to the country.
You may be a neutral person, but why you th elike people go after Rajapksehs.
If terror elemination found stop in his first term, that was surely not alone him, but for that only he was elected as the PM.
All LEADERS have their parts depending on the situatons.
Mahinda s term found its relay races and with the situation that LTTE then had been, they eearned the victory. Just because fo that he andhis family should not have the right to abuse the nation.
His family has done much harm to this nation.
I cant see any good he has done in his second term. He sold out srilanka, but Ranil s bad luck it was th ebond scam and all the loads came on his shoulder.
Now we can see how Rajapkshes will change it. in the next days, I dont think the economy will be fine.
They will try to show off as had been before, But collosal sums had been abused by Rajapkshes durin gtheir term.
Ranil has not done that.. even for his foreign trips.
He is a decent person. It is not all his fault to have not achieved that much in MANY areas.
Sirisens was not a good person. Even MervinSILVA made it very clear today, that Sirinensa is dangerous.

              Dear Prime Minister Sir:

If you indeed have the courage to do the following:

“..immediately hold the Provincial Councils elections that had been postponed continuously, and also to call a Parliamentary election as soon as possible..”

that will be a really noble act. We need the PC elections, and the Parliamentary elections badly..

I call it a courageous and democratic act, a gamble, since the former PM has the majority of parilament and also powerful foreign powers behind him.

I wish you a bright future.

Let us see how it unfolds.

Mahinda Rajapaksa camouflages our present predicament with ~ ” A New Democratic Beginning & The Rejection Of The Politics Of Hate”
In a democracy one tries a No-Confidence-Motion and then wait for an election. So MR should have said : “A re-beginning………….”. Pardon me for my shudder.
Is the MR brainchild SLPP’s campaign language/religion-divide “Rejection Of The Politics Of Hate”?

MR does not mention the culture of corruption/nepotism/impunity.

    Dear Mr. Rajapakshe,

Why not consider working with The UNP and Mr. Wickremesinghe? At least till 2020 elections.?

For the sake of the Country and people.

I am. Sure you are very capable as Prime Minister, I have no doubts Sir, but at the same time I always considered Mr. Wickremesinghe as the best person to be the foreign Envoy for Sri Lanka.

Please give it a sincere thought,no harm in trying a unity government under your leadership, you have the ability and experience, I.Honestly believe the two of you putting the petty issues aside and joining forces as suggested, you as The PM and Mr
WICKREMESINGHE IS as the foreign minister will. do wonders to the nation.
It is worth to dream the impossible dream to. Reach the unreachable star.

A national government under a personality like you will work am sure.
Please do all you can to not let our beloved nation turn into a mess like the rest of the other countries destroyed due to Political mess.
    We can not afford it.
Already one life is lost due to this political turmoil.

Kindly consider having a meeting with Mr. WICKREMESINGHE.. I am. Sure you will consider.

Mr. Rajapakshe, please don’t let everyone be spokesman for you, they will only bring disrepute, please let Mr Dinesh Gunawardena be the one to speak besides you.
We wait and hope for the best.
    .

Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, we know that your family is bound with very strong bonds of love for each other. All the brothers are together in any issue and would even die for each other. That way, you are a great example to follow.
    .
But can we say the same thing about your ‘boss’ Sirisena? Just after he became President in 2015, one of his brothers was murdered by someone. Sirisena did not care to attend his funeral. I do not know the exact reasons, but I think it was because it would give him unwanted publicity as the brother of a murderer. Whatever it was, it exposed his callous disregard and selfishness. If he could do that to his brother, I cannot see where he would stop in the case of the common people of this country or even his Prime Minister.
    .
Please be careful about this Hyena in human form (as referred to by Mervyn Silva). I did not vote for you in the past and I will never vote for you in the future. But I don’t want you hurt in anyway because I am grateful to you for finishing off the horrible war.
    .
There is no success you can celebrate more than the success of a brother. (Diego Luna)
There is no death you can mourn more than the death of a brother. (Edwin Rodrigo)

      Edwin,

      agree with you more.

We are all so devastated. With the 1 man dead at Dematagoda last night. People had such freedom all along, but they just took them granted. Now the thugs have returned to power and started usual way of criminal handlings.

Arjuna had been there to collect his own belongings last evening to his office.
.. to my knoweledge Arjuna is a decent person. But if those Mara ballos attacked him, why not his guards not shoot.
Just imagine the way, Kehelmal handled it on the 26th itself – the manner they attacked Mangala and Rajitha were beyond all levels.
How can they behave so, even if they were taught to work democratically during the 3.5 years passed.

Unfortunately, I have to eat my own. Words.

l take back the above comments. It is to late, I really do not know who are the advicers of the President, I have had the President some what close to. My heart and always defended him too
but now I think. he has gone a bit to far in dishing out dictatorship actions.

It was uncalled and not state man like to. have the electricity cut off at the Temple trees and it was a total misconduct and I personally know for sure this is not predifeu decision, nor
Mr.Mahinda’s advice now I believe deep. Inside you. May even regret the way things turned out, because I can sign with my blood this whole drama is not from Seasoned politicians like The President and You.
The entire thing am sure must have been orchestrated, by Wimal, S. B. Disssnayyake, And Gamampila.

There is going to. Be severe repercussions ,

I see the end of any hope, we should never underestimate any. Human being’s inner strength and the peoples reactions.

Champa, Please do not drop false tears .The down turn started in 1977. US$ was Rs 16.00 petrol was Rs 3.00 a liter. JRJ gave this country to the business community who financed his election.called it an OPEN EcONOMY. As he rightly said Let the thieves move in. They did just that and killed the country’s economy.

      • 2
        0

        Chandra,
” petrol was Rs 3.00 in 1977″ is not a valid comparison. An average guy made Rs 15 a day in 1977, that’s 5 litres of petrol. An average guy can buy 10 litres of petrol nowadays with his day’s wages. You have to admit the thieves did us a favour.

So right MR……. delaying the Provinsial Councils election and Ranil’s tinkering with the constitution to assure a UNP win was also unconstitutional. Meddling with the constitution over the last 4-years, cutting and pasting and patching it up by Ranil and his cronies over the last 4-years to suit themselves were unconstitutional. Now the sly fox has the nerve to complain that his sacking was unconstitutional. Bull shit! The man has been sacked for incompetence at his post, and for being a rogue leading the central bank robbery as well as fgor being a dictator within a democractic process of governance. We cannot have a rogue as a PM hiding behind the President all this time now claiming constitutional nonsense. The President is dead right to exercise his powers of the Executive Presidency and sack the man; he should have done it a long time ago. Convene the Parliament after arresting and arrainging this guy for his betraying the people that were deceived by his corrupt and fraudulent regime.

When one look back and see, we have had leaders of outstanding integrity, character and selflessness. I have ask you MARA whether you are anywhere near those noble men and women. I cannot remember having seen or heard of a head of state being accused of embezzling public funds not in millions but in trillions. Not only you all your brothers, sisters, wife, children and other codgers of yours are said to be PAL HORU. We do know from reports appearing in the past in the media that you have done irreparable, unpardonable damage to the ordinary poor citizens of this land. I would like to recall some of them as I remember. You broke into the Tsunami Aid till and took away Rs.82 million for your personal use. It was proved in the courts as admitted by your own bestman Sarath Silva. You , your son Namal, Ajit Cabraal. and several other ate, drank, womanized .in St. Kitts with the Africans and busted US$ 8 million in 2012 in your aborted bid for Commonwealth Games 2018. Your decision to invest in the bankrupt Greek Bonds was a deliberate attempt to rob. You stole 22.5 US dollars and put them in Dubai and Panama. When your bill was the ambassador in the US you sent over 800 million rupees to US lobbying firms. All these were done without Cabinet or Monetary Board approval. Yr Secretary is the one who ordred the payments on your instructions. The losses in Sri Lankan Airlines, Mihin Air, the EPF, ETF the Cricket Board. In short you didn’t spare any public institution where there was money. One you will have to pay for these sins man. You are a dirty SOB..

    Mahinda old pal,

Welcome back to the hot seat. It is indeed very noble of you to step in at the hour of need when the country is sliding down uncontrollably down hill (but wasn’t it you who initiated the push by hocking the country to the Chinese to finance & promote your white elephants?). Anyway, most leaders step down honourably after their term is over to enjoy a comfortable retirement with a generous pension but maybe you were bored with the extremely comfortable life style with no loss of perks (& with the accumulated wealth to support many generations to come), or was it your patriotic sense of duty to serve the country that you came back to Parliament as a lowly MP? Whatever the reason, the dumb President, who incidentally, feared for his life in the past if you were to be in power, has realised your true potential & has invited you to be his side kick in running the country in the foreseeable future. I am sure there are many who had faith in you & stood by loyally when you were down, not to mention those currently behind bars & those awaiting similar fate, that are eagerly looking forward for the good times to roll with you in control.

Anyway, it may be ‘another day in Paradise ….’ for you & your cronies (apologies to Phil Collins) but as for the poor sods who happen to live in this country ‘like no other’, it would be just another day, like for the poor woman in the song.

I have seen many an election since independence. Even Sir John, such a tough guy, not like the cardboard Mahinda. gracefully bade good by to national politics and retired to his Kandawala residence without a whim and on his death his entire estate was given to the people of Sri lanka, Unlike those good old statesmen MARA have not given even a WADE from the ill gotten money let alone anything else. Isn’t it shameful, damn shameful for MARA even though his first election was unlawful, being elected a second time also become the Prime Minister. such things happen only in dirty Sri Lanka. I am truly disgusted and ashamed to be a citizen of such a country.

Can someone please tell me I am not dreaming. Here is MR with his ‘colourful’ track record asking us to join him in restoring democracy and good order, the same man under whose dispensation journalists disappeared without trace or ended dead, where printing presses of those who chose to state a contrary view were trashed……..the list is endless. This is the same man who appointed his kith and kin to high positions and let them rob the country, left right and centre. Remember his b-i-l and how he ran Sri Lankan Airways? Yes, ran it to the ground. And I am asked to repose my trust in him!

MR is reborn on the 26th Oct 2018.

So now he would behave that obedient to MS. All the criminal investigations will not be heard with him becoming next PM.
      The deal is:
MS should be the next canddiate for the PE in 2020. Then he can stay until MR’s Son NAMAL baby would fulfill age issue meaning, the candidates should be over 35 yrs to be able to contest the election.
Now MR is seen the cool brother to his own siblings, since he does not need to oppose to any of them.
BR is making all the deals these days, putting over 4500 lacks if anyone would join their side. But sofar, all the minsiters have denied except one single man, who should be same blood man of Mahindananda. Those men would betray everything for some funds.

MR with courage, charisma and cunningness, RW with decency and international appeal, together they two can do better. One being pro-Chinese, other being pro-Indian can balance geopolitics as leaning on one side is dangerous but getting max use of their rivalry in a smart way is beneficial to the country and the infrastructure.
