A People’s Peace & Solidarity Project Against Racism & Ethno-Religious Extremism

By Dayan Jayatilleka –

Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka

What if we are heading for dreadful yet durable deadlock as in Israel/Palestine? Israeli society evolved in such a manner that there was a shift to the radical right at the grassroots which reflected itself electorally; the once powerful Labour party and Peace movements were increasingly marginalized; and the Oslo two- state solution was in effect halted and partially reversed. For its part, Palestinian society shifted from the secular PLO and the radical left (PFLP), to the Islamist resistance whose commitment to a two state solution based on the 1967 borders, was belated and shaky.

What if the same thing is happening here? The Tamil nationalists long overshot the mark and crassly pushed an agenda going beyond the only bilateral commitment the Sri Lankan state has entered into (however un-freely), namely the Indo-Lanka Accord of 1987 and its corollary the 13th amendment which guarantees provincial devolution within a unitary state. Meanwhile, and partially in response, Sinhala society seems to be shifting organically in the direction of the ethno-religious neoconservative right, to the extent that even the center-left populist JO-SLPP may feel unable to stand up to it and demarcate itself as against it (which is precisely what happened to SWRD’s SLFP between 1955 and 1956).

What can be done? Create a shelter, a countervailing space and a possible alternative over the long duration. Start with what Noah did in the Bible: build an Ark to survive the coming storm.

But do you, we, really want to combat racism and religious extremism and build a movement for inter-communal peace and solidarity? Or do we only want to use the issue to take potshots at our favorite targets while staying within our respective comfort zones? Let’s assume that some of us really want to combat racism. How then to do it? It needs to be done the way it is all over the world. If the Left doesn’t combat racism and religious extremism, no one does. An inter-communal peace movement against racism and ethno-religious extremism must be Left-driven. For sure, the Left cannot do it alone, but without the Left, or rather, without a Left, no one effectively fights racism. Cosmopolitan liberals cannot “take it to the streets”.

A divided Left cannot fight racism. This does not mean the left has to unite into a single party in order to fight racism. That idea would be utopian. It does mean however that the Left has to arrive at some kind of unity or at least coordination. There were two mobilizations against racism after the Kandy attacks. One by the FSP-IUSF, the other by the JVP. They were both of fairly modest size. If there had been a joint mobilization the crowd would have been much larger. As the saying goes, unity does not merely add, it multiplies.

There has to be a joint mechanism of the JVP and FSP for the purposes of coordination at least on the issue of racist violence and how to prevent and/or combat it. This alone won’t do but it is necessary start. The JVP should have realized by now that without the university student cadre, it cannot even campaign effectively at elections. The FSP must realize that without trade unions and peasant associations, it is crippled. The FSP has the students. The JVP has the trade unions and peasant unions.

Racism cannot be fought without the big battalions of the university student movement and worker and peasant organizations. The anti-racist movement must in the first instance be a youth movement, and in the last instance, a broad and deep people’s movement; a truly organic mass movement. The anti-racist struggle imperatively requires the coordination of the JVP and FSP.

Joint action of the JVP and FSP, while a necessary condition is not a sufficient one. These two nuclei must be able to draw in all other sections of the left, obviously not on the basis of a common political approach but strictly on the basis of opposing racism. This most certainly has to include the left elements from the North and East. This would mean the continuators of the old Eelam Left as well as the new progressive tendencies that have arisen in the North. In a landmark piece, Ahilan Kadirgamar has mapped the re-emergent and new progressive trends in Tamil politics.

“In…the Jaffna District where a majority of the population of the Northern Province resides…the EPDP with an oppressed caste base also made a good showing with 19% of the votes…The EPDP has remained a significant actor in Tamil politics. It has broken the myth that it is dependent on state patronage for its electoral politics. It has a steady oppressed caste base in different parts of Jaffna and has won significantly in the islands off Jaffna…

A number of independent groups have done well for various reasons including anti-caste politics. In Karainagar an independent group working for the social development of oppressed caste communities formed a year ago, have won three seats equivalent to the TNA. In Puttur, where a powerful anti-caste struggle around cemeteries took place last year, leftists backed by the New Democratic Marxist Leninist Party have won four seats. In Chavakacheri, the newly formed Social Democratic Party of Tamils, which came out of the EPRLF, has managed to secure 2 seats. And in Kilinochchi, progressive independent groups led by Chandrakumar, have proven a major challenge to the TNA and won nineteen seats. Chandrakumar’s support base includes the long marginalized Up-Country Tamil population that had been displaced to the Vanni over the decades…

The pockets of progressive politics which have eschewed narrow Tamil nationalism are a glimmer of hope to re-chart Tamil politics…Anti-caste politics silenced during the war is now emerging as the politics for various smaller parties, as the excluded and marginalized people seek a political voice. Beyond elections, these progressive political movements can become an effective check on any aggressive street politics of the extreme Tamil nationalists who in recent times with the support of Chief Minister Wigneswaran are also introducing a dangerous Hindu element to their Tamil nationalism.” (‘Sri Lanka: Northern Election and Tamil Politics’, Ahilan Kadirgamar, ‘Red Notes’, Daily Mirror, Feb 19th 2018)

Surely these are the natural allies of the Southern Left? Surely an alliance between these Southern and Northern Lefts is the very basis of a reunified Sri Lanka based on equality of rights, autonomy and social justice?

There can be no Left which is limited to the Sinhala majority areas. Indeed one of the defining factors of being a Left is that it should cut across ethno-linguistic and regional barriers. This cannot be merely at the level of rhetoric or limited to the Tamil members of the JVP and FSP, but in terms of actual participation of the Tamil left from the North and East.

This is also the time to ask why the progressive tendency of Muslim politics in Sri Lanka seems to have died out (one recalls the Islamic Socialist Front of Dr. Badiuddin Mahmud). The newly formed Alliance for Muslim Rights of which Mr. A.W. Abdul Azeez is the effective spokesperson, seems to me the closest we come to a progressive Muslim formation. I hope the Left parties will reach out to it.

Now there is the obvious question of drawing together with those on the Left who are affiliated with other mainstream formations, i.e. the JO-SLPP and the UNF. The problem is then posed: “how can we unite with those who are already united with racists, and/or those who wittingly or unwittingly are responsible for racism?”

Well, the proof of the pudding being in the eating, why not invite all sections of the left movement, ranging from those who are with the JO (especially Vasudeva Nanayakkara), the UNF and in-between (like the Communist party) to join a conclave or common mobilization against racism, and indeed help to formulate such a platform? One may be pleasantly surprised at who turns up. After all, it worked with the anti-SAITM mobilization, in which the FSP, JVP and JO came together. If that was possible, why not on the issue of anti-racism and inter-ethnic peace?

An anti-racist movement of peace and solidarity must reach out beyond the various tendencies of the Left. Obviously those of a liberal persuasion should be incorporated but this alone won’t do. A movement of only the like-minded cannot effectively combat racism. The strategy must be the broadest possible outreach so as to isolate the racists and the fascists. Such an outreach must necessarily include nationalists who are not fascists or racists.

Any anti-racist movement formed in today’s Sri Lanka must learn to distinguish between Sinhala and Tamil nationalisms, extreme chauvinism/ultra-nationalism and violent ethno-religious extremism (which is proto-fascist). Sometimes it is necessary to unite with nationalists to fight the chauvinists. This does not mean that anti-racists from South or North have to convert to nationalism, become nationalists themselves!

The project of building an anti-racist movement will ultimately help the JVP and its breakaway, the FSP, to achieve two strategic objectives; firstly, to prepare for and survive whatever happens to be the outcome of the national elections of late next year, and secondly and much more importantly, to overcome the three main factors that have prevented them from achieving the success of their counterparts globally.

Firstly, from its inception in 1965, the JVP has never had adequate Tamil participation nor Tamil partnership. This is also true of Muslims.

Secondly, neither the JVP nor the Left as a whole was ever able to balance the anti-imperialist national liberation aspect of the struggle with the solution (i.e. autonomy plus equal rights) to the internal national question in Sri Lanka. Instead there was always a ‘right’ or ‘left’ deviation. The swerve was either towards national liberation which fused with Sinhala nationalism, or the throwing out of the baby of national liberation, independence and sovereignty together with the bathwater of Sinhala nationalism. It is the latter deviation that the JVP, FSP and the Communist party share today, while the former deviation is the groove in which the JVP’s breakaway in the JO’s ranks is still stuck. Today the anti-imperialist struggle for national independence, sovereignty and liberation has, by dint of default by the left, been transferred entirely into the hands of the nationalist-populist camp and the xenophobic ultranationalists on its right flank.

Thirdly, the JVP and the FSP have shown a complete and chronic inability, even a ‘genetic’ inability, to engage in the formation of united fronts, blocs and other forms of left and progressive unification, which has been an essential ingredient in the success of the left from Nicaragua to Nepal. The united front, either as tactic or strategy had been suggested by the most diverse array of Left leaders of genius: Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, Dmitrov and Mao. The discrepancy of views was on the breadth of that united front is not the point. The point is that the JVP and its offshoot have never adopted it – the sole exception being the JVP in the five party left bloc for a few months 1979! As N. Sanmugathasan, the veteran Maoist once told me, the logic of the united front is brutally simple: “we must swim together or sink separately!”

The task of forming an anti-racist, inter-ethnic peace and solidarity movement, should the JVP and FSP choose to undertake it, would help them build the capacity to overcome these three historic, congenital weaknesses, which are the necessary prerequisites for a long overdue left counterweight and resistance, which can develop into a Left alternative capable of navigating a left turn to sanity for Sri Lanka.

    Dear Dr. EPRLF,

“Sinhala society seems to be shifting organically in the direction of the ethno-religious neoconservative right, to the extent that even the center-left populist JO-SLPP may feel unable to stand up to it”

    What a hoot!

Who, exactly, are you trying to hoodwink?

Dayan, Muslims have fallen into this sorry state due to their own making. If you go through history, God makes people arrogant before bringing them down. This has happened to empires, dictators and individuals, and Muslims are not an exception. Their claim as the largest minority elevated as rulers of eastern province and their advance in taking control of the economy of the country flashing their wealth has not gone well with the Sinhalese. Foreign agencies are bound to make use of this displeasure to create trouble, and Muslims are paying the price for it. Tamils had to face this before as Sinhalese from villages who settled in Colombo, could not stomach Tamils occupying high positions and prospering in business.

Thero Compares the South African Apartheid struggle to Lankawe- Tamils as Pretoria government and Sinhalese as Nelson Mandela’s team.

Thero Compares the Middle East Palestinian struggle to Lankawe. Tamils as occupying Israel and Sinhalese as the Palestinian, who are trying to establish their country,.

Now the Center-Middle-up-down-bottom-front-back-left-right-on-above-underneath Slap Party is having trouble with the Kandy Racists, Ayatollah’s spreading ethnic fight.

At least one thing, a ray of light in his foreign label wine vapor forged heads; he is seeing this as not political fights, but as Ayatollah’s spread hate. Right or wrong, it is a ray of light where everything is only Black Hole.

I have been doing some lab experiments on MICE, on their behavours.

There i got to know those mammalians with mixed genetics behave inconsistent time to time.
Latter is what I have already noticed in the profile of Dayan Jayathilaka for some time now.
He has been very biased and never been consistent.

So that is the reason why he is today cornered to his 4 walls. He has been reduced to his self proclamiations.

If he would open his ends, he never forget to share how he had been put to bed … or what background he has been coming from etc.. however, to this date, he has been fallen to the levels of That SCHOOL drop out but with a filthy mouth to have polarised lanken galleries, … is a wonder to me. how come people of DJ having had better up bringing to fall that deep ? Can anyone pplease help me gettting this.

        Well, how sure are you?
JVP and LTTE didn’t have a culture of democracy nor both respected human rights when they were riding on the strength of barrel of guns.

I doubt JVP will remain devoted to democracy forever. Its another opportunistic group.

Had both formed a coalition …………. the land would have been made completely vacant. Only the politburo members of both parties would have remained alive.

Sorry Dr. DJ that theory will not work. I don’t believe one can build an effective multi-ethnic force against racism. That would be like trying to get the mother of the thief to name the thief (“Horage ammagen pena aseema”). On the other hand although racism is always brought front and centre by the media, the internal problems are not rooted in Ethnicity but in the other big E, i.e. Economics. As Malinda says racism is the dead cat thrown by external factors to distract the real issue. In my mind what is needed is multi-ethnic solidarity to bring about economic solutions to the disenfranchised whether Muslim, Sinhala, Tamil, Female or Youth.

Are you sure you know what you are talking about?

“On the other hand although racism is always brought front and centre by the media, the internal problems are not rooted in Ethnicity but in the other big E, i.e. Economics.”

Racism helps to allocate resources disproportionately to those who have accumulated state power disproportionately, disregards life and death of ordinary people, disregards reasonableness, misuses state power, dislodge peace and amity with riots and wars, …….. thrives on nepotism, …………….. impunity, ……….. Tyranny of majoritarianism thrives and you the Sinhala/Buddhist enormously benefit from all these calamities, ……………..

From your typing I can guess you are one of them who have benefited from racism, otherwise you would not have found a job, if you are employed.

NV mate I never had to work a day in my life for a living, my Pater made sure to exploit the poor well and good before land reform and rental act, so that us progenitors were well looked after for a couple of generations. By the way some of his best friends were Vellala Tamils, Muslim businessmen and Sinhala pseudo Aristocracy, all of them were pretty good at paying the minimum wage and getting the maximum output. Unlike the current generations those poor sods obliged like cattle.

So the elite crooks generally got together and exploited the plebs irrespective of their race, religion, region, gender, sexual orientation, …………… and now you are fighting for the lost colonial rights of your forefathers. I respect you for your honesty.

Times are not really good for the old gentry. Is that why you are sending your women folks to medieval middle east kingdoms so that you can have a jolly good life back home?

By the way “An idle brain is the devil’s workshop” hence we need to find you a full time job where you can spend an average of 12 X 7 X 52 hours a year. Else you occupy yourself with other destructive engagements, Ampara, Teldeniya, Aluthgama, …….

Now what happened in ’70s was the NMs and Colvins, and Peter Ks hiding behind Dame B’s Osariya introduced this idea of equality, what a bloody ridiculous idea no mate! Now our young folk think what’s the point working in a shop or factory for 20,000 SLRs when those Colombo buggers are making ten times that sitting an AC office writing code, so our rural young folk are idling, pecking at the key board, going on FB and are cattle fodder for anyone who want to fire up some action, be it your Hindia via RSS through BBS and so forth..to be ctd somewhere sometime

FSP was made by those who wanted to liquidate JVP. JVP should not get into what Dayan Jayathilake is suggesting. There is no totally anti-racist and anti-every thing people in the world. See TRUMP. why. See the europe and sfricans getting killed. why. why christians and Muslims are killing each other. why HIndus are against Indian muslims. Dayan Jayathilake thinks JVP is dumb. Be careful. why TRUMP had to go agains tNoirth Korea, Syrian, Iran and now against russia. Why during the Mahinda rajaopakse times, UNHCR was a big drama. Niow Ranil doe snot have any of those things, Nuslims, LG election, all Drama. Be careful. I heard AKD house Ireland is bought by some in the former govt and probably it is either Ajith PErera or Bandula gunawardan. if not Rajapaksse family. owns the house. He was asked about the hosue, next thing he knew was there was a house in his name. I heard, Bandula gunawardane, Mangala Samraweera and one more also are considering to fight the Presidential election. My concern is as there won’t be a common candidate, whether they will try to divide the vote, so that Ranil will be the PResident.

      You know softy,

No Sinhalese will give Thero a minister post. They are not giving him an Ambassador post and allow him to peacefully complete his term. But he knows Tamils will. He want to make Gunaratnam the first Tamil President of Lanakwe. Then he can easily become Prime Minister. That is why he is targeting poor Anura. That poor one campaigned in the Local, day and night, even without going to bathroom to pee. But he lost. Merriam – Webster, waiting waiting….but after Local, took the final resolve and added JVP as synonym to “lost”. Thero write all these of praising of JVP,FSP only to revenge the Old Royals. Big brother want to make meatballs with JVP. Brother Prince wants to make patties with FSP.
Interesting thing is couple of comments says this time Thero has written really nice. The wine is going to choke to Thero when he laugh at those jokes.

I don’t usually agree with DJ, but seeing the rise of the ethnographic religious neoconservative right, and nationalists, around the world, one can see it happening here too. Using religion and the protection of country, as a tool they use to operate. Israel is the perfect example. Right now it is trying to stifle the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement by desperately tying it to anti-Semitism. Looks totally stupid from the outside.

      Palitha,

If you were to carefully analyse DJ’s past articles you will discover that he has been pandering to the Sinhala Buddhist chauvinism. He has been basically whipping up their sentiments in order to promote MR. It is the very force that attacked the Muslims!

He cannot on one hand pander to the wicked force and with other hand to say that it is on the rise! He should know that such a force cannot be turned on and off as he pleases! This is why I say that DJ is far more dangerous than the ones who attack the minorities.

I heard Maithripala sirisena is asking Ranil to Step down. but Ranil has said I will go with you and not alone. He has said when they were near the Sapugaskande oil refinery. Looks things are getting harder. Some Yakkala people had overheard this.
Ranil’s only point is MY3 is saying ,economy, economy byt does nothing, it is Ranil who did everything. and Ranil “Mage amme Mama mokakda kare amathi kamen ynda”. that is what his question always is. Ranil he doe snot know any machine, or any thing else. this is the only thing he knows and why he should go”. Ranil is talking this way and MY3 is saying “if I go what will happen to Ranil”.

    Dear Dayan ,
appreciate your good piece of article. Time has come today ,never than before the need of the leftists to save the nation and the people , no other way , need to tightening screws at certain end is required.

They are the only party at the moment who can provide a platform to bring Sinhalese from both faiths,The Tamils , Muslims and others together, Only as long as Anura Kumara Dissanayake remians leader, if he is ever replaced , we do not know what will happen.

what matters is to address the need of today

But JVP got to go it alone and have their own representatives from Muslim and Tamils ,which means Muslim and Tamil parties should be willing to crossover as JVP party members ,same with other Sinhalese party members.
One can not have the cake and eat the cake..

Alliance is out ,that has always been bogus , forming alliances has only helped the politicians ,never the country or people, I am sure you know what I mean Dayan with due respect to your sincere suggestions.

I assure you if the Muslim parties do not abolish their failed parties and join JVP, they will be humiliated in the next general election by people voting them out , Like it or not a huge Muslim vote is already reserved for the JVP and the JVP must not loose site of this opportunity , they must work tirelessly to secure it , they need to appoint educated Muslim youths of English /Tamil and Sinhala medium of education in every corner of the Island .

It will be an excellent idea for Sarath Fonseka , Imtiaz Bakeer Marccar ,Ranjan Ramanayake , Azath Sally ,Doctor Wije Bahu , Dr,Sarath Amunugame, Mano Ghaneshan and like minded lot to consider taking up JVP membership at the 2020 General election.

when I refer to leftist , I am suggesting a Regressive left .we are all aware the death of all form of communism, socialism ,democracy ,and also know well they are mere words .and good only on paper.
Regressive left ideology can become more than just a political epithet and can be put into action if the people wholeheartedly push for it with utmost pressure and if liberal minded politicians agree and come together to implement it.
We need to form a Regressive leftist constitution with homegrown solutions to address every citizen’s grievances, we need freedom and liberalism, but not at the cost of human lives , destruction of economy and also free speech and social media should be to turn the country around from hate to love not negativity.
Freedom must not be denied to any citizen ,but that does not mean any religion , (may it be Buddhism,Hinduism , Christianity ,Islam or any religion) should be permitted to create insecurity to the nation or its people.
Social media must be monitored all times , never mind the “CRITICS ,(they can go get stuffed) ,if monitoring works for Sri Lanka then that is all that matters.
We need to rebuild our lost international image, we should be able to sue people who insults our beliefs, insult our ethnicity with derogatory terms ,sue them to an extend that will totally bankrupt them to an extend that no other will even think of trying it.
Hit racists their pockets and they will reform .any racist burns down a home and business , just grab everything he and the group or anyone who supported it ,bankrupt them and pass it to the Victim.
why should the government compensate? Is that not so warped? The government is getting tax payers & resources of innocent people who had nothing to do with the incident and paying for the sins of the racists ,

DJ was perfectly fine when that Urumaya ethnofascist, Champika Ranawaka, was in the camp of the Rajapaksas. Once Ranawaka found that his ambitions couldn’t be realized by staying as an appendage to the Rajapaksas and partaking in their deep corruption, he moved out to join the Yahapanalaya crowd. And now suddenly DJ the gigolo wakes up from his debauchery to find Ranawaka is a bad ethnonationalist but MR and Gota are still great and deserve to come back to govern the country.

With such gigolos becoming public intellectuals and politicians , can the country ever rise above its political rut, shed violence once and for all, and find peace and prosperity?

Gigolo sometimes turns out to be right. I never thought New King would end up hiding in Old Royals’ Shadow, this soon. He cannot become PM as he would think, if he supports Brother Prince. I never though Old King will have no way but to give up his dream of crowing this decent, Son Prince to his sibling Brother Prince. If the Brother Prince takes over the power to one term, then the Family Empire will be returned. But the dynasty’s hierarchy will change the string from Old King to Brother Prince. Son Prince’s loss will be permanent. The river might change the cause.

Brother Prince is an American Candidate. New King, Ponny and Ranil all were American candidates. But all are perceived as right wing, though New King and Ponny are hard core JVP fighters. But Brother Prince will remain left wing Anti-JVPyer & anti-Ranil. When Ponny and New King-Ranil stood in election, opponent was Old King, an American enemy, after the war. (He war with America during the war). But now Ponny may too stand for election. Ranil will stand, but provided no change in the UNHRC progress. If there is really something, another UNPyer has to be there. Ranil will not contest if there is anything unexpected in UNHRC. That time Ponny has a good chance to attract minority votes than any other UNPyer. So Ponny may become common candidate and Brother Prince will be SLFP candidate. (Sooner or later Slap Party may go dead- If they leave SLFP to die Chandrika will take over, they won’t like it). So if Ponny become common candidate and Brother Prince become Opponent, then America will be at great ease. Win or lose both will be with America. China will be dislodged by whoever comes. China would want to win the game by bending brother prince to its side. China may think by giving another $18B can do the trick. But neither Brother Prince nor Ponny will be changing their allegiance from America to China. As Thero predicted, 2020 will be a good night show, lot of entertainment to watch.

During the war time, LTTE suppressed the cast-ial differences. The Sirimavo Built up Shanmugathasan team-, theThero’s secret representatives in North, went without a trace. Tamils, unitedly, had only one problem, their freedom from the oppressive Sinhala Rulers.
” Anti-caste politics silenced during the war is now emerging as the politics for various smaller parties, as the excluded and marginalized people seek a political voice. “ Thero wants to revive the Caste fight in North with the name of Castes starting to call for political freedom. Shanmugathasan, Thero’s and Sirimavo’s secret agent died. Thero is using that opportunity to rescind his association with Shanmugathasan. But Thero is building the new Control Tower in North with, using Sirimavo’s daughter Chandrika’s agent, Kathirgamar Family. So Thero has appointed Ahilan as the new MacArthur of North to the Sinhala Racism. As per Thero, Ahilan will be accepting the North’s surrender to the Victory of the SWRD’s SLFP over the North.
Why the new initiation of South to re-create once the again dead cast-ial fights, under the past Captain Kathirgamar’s’ relative Ahilan. Because they could not riot freely against Muslims because that will give advantage to Tamils in UNHRC’s 37th sitting. If the Tamils character is devastated in the eye of UNHRC, then they can freely riot against Muslims. So, in the name of fighting of ethnic fights Thero is creating Cast-ial fights in North to destroy Tamils character? Slap Party launched a racial campaign to win the LG election. After election, it planned a limited operation to display its authority over the minoritiies. But it had got out of control for the naïve Yahapalanaya, during the UNHRC’s 37th sitting.
Thero says the only accepted the government’s accord is Indian-Lanka accord and it is 13A. That is not 13A. It is only about Tamils home land and Indian security. Lankawe has violated both closes of the accord. Lankawe sold a naval(Hangbandtota) base to China. It infiltrated North East, splitting the NorthEast which was accepted as one unit in the accord.

Thero is discounting the resolution 30/1, under which Sinhala government consented to UN to solve Tamils’ land problem, as not signed by Government. Further Thero is discounting the terms and condition of the Ceylon’s Freedom under Soulbury constitution. If there was ever a legitimate government, a self-rule government existed all over the Ceylon then it was only under Soulbury Constitution. Soulbury constitution had a condition of Tamils assent to the legality of it. There, another further condition was Sinhalese will never pass laws affecting minorities. Indian Pakistani Citizenships and Sinhala Only are direct violation of that Soulbury Constitutional accord. The action of absolution of Soulbury Constitution in Ceylon and passing another constitution for the entire Ceylon in violation of whole section 29, made the 1972 constitution invalid. The freedom of Ceylon hinged on two hinges, 1). Tamils Ministers’ assent. 2). Section 29. Sinhala Majority has violated both Ceylon’s freedom terms. That is why SJV left the 1972 constitutional committee. Now, as far Tamils are concerned, there no longer Ceylon is there. They consented only for that (Ceylon). So they have no government over them. All other activities are only aggression over them. The countries in the UN and UNHRC have to understand what SJV did in 1972. So they must accept that Lankawe government is not Tamils’ government. UN has to openly proclaim that when the Tamils’ Freedom war was defeated, Sinhala Rapist army completely annihilated Tamils’ army and chased the Tamils’ political Unit, TNA to India so there was no one left for them to sign a peace treaty. On that ground Tamils future have come under UN jurisdiction right away. UN, without delay, has to declare Tamils’ Self-Determination and has to send the Peace Keepers to guard their lands.
Thero is trying to fix the bad timing of the Slap Party ethnic rioting by splitting Tamils into Castes- No way sir!

There are of course problems with Dayan’s neat classification of left and right. In my view it is a totally failed strategy for left to team up with global imperialism and neo conservatism to fight and try to defeat mainstream populism and nationalism in this country. That is what JVP and other pseudo leftists are trying to achieve in Sri Lanka. The good thing is in that fight those pseudo leftist will get buried……for good. JVP is facing a crisis because of FSP and to an extent NFF too. FSP has taken away JVP’s most radical student base while NFF has taken away the nationalist trend thus becoming a political refugee of sorts. Now JVP is trying to be a more social democratic party in order to woo sections of liberal intelligentia (including entertainment world of baila type) while being relevant in the work place and the street.

Dayan thinks if Mahinda Raja comes to power he will be made the foreign secretary. He is only day dreaming. Last time Mahinda Raja stabbed Dayan on the back, next time it will be on the front.

I’ve heard both Goda and Basil hate Dayan, so he will have no future under them.

So the only best avenue available for Dayan is to curry favour MY3. He will appoint Dayan as Media Advisor, Press Secretary or Editor in charge of Daily News. All of them carry a six figure salary with a luxury car for use. I know Dayan loves to travel. If he becomes attached to MY3 he can join his team on foreign trips. Like Mahnida Raja MY3 now takes big groups with him when travel overseas sometimes three figure numbers, so Dayan and possible wife can squeeze in.

There are two non stop English writers in contemporary sri lankan society. they are dayan jayathillake and shenali wadu gani. I think dayan is the better writer of the two. He basically knows what he writes about. His plagirasm is less severe when compared with shenali wadu gani. I have noted Minolika’s above comments that dayan actually does not know what ethno religious extremsim means, and I agree with Minolika.

The ethno-religious racist project of the post-colonial state apparatus.
Let’s name it as such. Historically xenophobic, systematic attacks on Tamils since 1956…Gal Oya remembers…
The first Sinhala-Buddhist assault on Muslims also in 1958…
Since independence, the Sinhala Buddhist state has been on a murderous path…
DJ’s obsessed with symptoms. Because he’s wedded to the genocidal apparatus, and no consequences accrue to him. It’s psychopathy.
