All This With Just A Few Licks At Power

There’s a lot that people might find disappointing in the Maithripala Sirisena – Ranil Wickremesinghe combo. They promised much, made a lot of noise, appeared to sweat a bit too, but didn’t really deliver anything of substance.

The 19th Amendment did prune some presidential powers but they couldn’t get the composition of the Constitutional Council right. The 20th Amendment was effectively flushed down the toilet of political expediency. Parliament was dissolve without resolving the vexed issue of preferential votes, improper representation and so on, just to save Ranil Wickremesinghe the blushes over the Bond Scam. Price reduction was essentially eyewash. The Foreign Ministry is now run by LTTE proxies and worse, acts as proxy for the Security Establishment. There was a lot of talk about mega deals, rampant corruption and bringing to book wrongdoers. Talk, mostly.

All that said, it seems that at the micro level (relatively speaking) some currency has accrued to the law. At the micro level, i.e. the big bucks, mega deals level politician have the decisive edge (e.g. the Bond Issue). Still, it is good that the Deputy Minister of Justice, Sujeewa Senasinghe has been ordered to appear in court to face charges of being a public nuisance and for obstructing a police officer from discharging his duties. That’s ‘new’ and kudos to the yahapalana boys and girls.

The disturbing part of it is that this is the junior minister in charge of the subject of ‘Justice’ we are talking about. He has violated election laws. He obstructed the law. That’s two strikes. He threatened a police officer. Sujeewa is just another cut-out politician who is not averse to using strong arm tactics. Didn’t his boss, Ranil Wickremesinghe know? Since charity ought to begin from home, has Ranil initiated disciplinary action? Has he rapped Sujeewa on his knuckles and said ‘bad boy, bad boy Sujeewa!’?

Yes, it is good that the law-enforcement climate has changed to the point that the Police would actually act on a citizen’s complaint. The said officer had gone to investigate when someone complained on the 911 emergency line that a political meeting after 10 pm was causing a disturbance. Unheard of not too long ago. What he had to face when he went to investigate is that there’s a long way to go.

How much further this country has to proceed is perhaps best illustrated by what happened thereafter. Sujeewa Senasinghe using his political clout calls a press conference and accuses the police officer of being drunk. That’s abuse.

Sure, Senasinghe had lodged his own complaint. That’s legit. He claims the officer was drunk. He is upset that no action was taken on his complaint. He whines that the officer was not subjected to a JMO examination. That’s not cutting any ice, though.

Sujeewa Senasinghe has been a deputy minister only for 7 months. He’s already operating like a common thug. Ironically it is this same Sujeewa who is insinuating that his manaapa rival in the Colombo District, Ravi Karunanayake, is entertaining creatures from the underworld. He does have a point but then when he makes it, it is laughable simply because he himself is operating as though he’s just surfaced from somewhere below the ground.

Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe painted themselves into a corner. Ranil, especially, knows what his underlings are capable of. He would have known that the beasts would break through the good governance uniforms. We don’t know if he warned them to toe the yahapalana line. But now that they’ve come out of their beautiful shells, he has to take action. That’s IF he was ever really interested in ‘Change’. If not, the voters can rest assured that Sujeewa Senasinghe is a messenger from the future. His message is simple: We won’t do anything different from what the previous regime did — if you think we would deliver ‘change’, ‘yahapalanaya’ and what not, DREAM ON SUCKERS!’

This writer would see only the lot that people might accordoing to him name disapaoing in MY3- Ranil rule. Anyways, any right thinking ones would agree with the fact that justice is today prevailed than had been before Jan 8.
Within the Raja bunch only their siblings et al were allowed to make decisions regarding the future of the country under MR, while today, not MY3 but Ranil and even society groups decide for the future. Even JVP had been given the chance to work with them to shape up any important decisions being taken for the country. But these roudy groups led by MR seem to be painting the picture in favour of them.
Danno danithi – but how many of the population are aware all the the other question. Today, everyone thinks about the whom to be given their votes. Surely people would not see it right the HORA bunch be given chances to lead the nation again.

…entertaining sweet dreams of being able once more. Sitting on MR’s lap with his laptop…..appealing to the Janathawa on behalf of MR in English of course because Laptop makers do not provide Sinhalese keybaord as they rightly guess that primitives like Malinda will drive the culture and language to extinction before MR sells the lot to the Chinese.

well said! I completely had a different impression of him before..I was shocked when he said in a press conference that he “wrote to transfer his divisional OIC”.. did we elect them to change government officials just like that? He is overreacting and big headed now..”IGP should resign” my foot…. U should resign Mr. Senasinghe.. let police do their job.. we are watching u!

If the world continues to unfold in the fashion that you describe, with a Wickremesinghe/Sirisena government continuing in power, you should fit in admirably as your past record will very clearly indicate. You might even be advised to apply for the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Sunday Observer and move from your present sinecure with the Rajapaksa-owned piece of the media.
    Think about it.

Oh Malinda, we all know you would like to see MR returned to power as PM but you are now frustrated that this is not going to happen from the way the UPFA is carrying out its campaign. Therefore, you finding holes in the UNP but these are not going to hurt the votes in favour of UNP.

MaLINDA s views are similar to that of Kelaniya Mervin. So Readers please just ignore. This bugger is said to have graduated from Harward. .. but his thoughts are even lower than that of a threewheeler driver. During my short visit paid to lanka last week, I happened to talk to several tuk tuk drivers.. most of them were happy with the current govt.. They seem not like MR thugs being reelected. But Malinda and the few cough for MR for their own perks management – seem to be continung .. Malinda will have to come to sense at least after August 17.

Malinda, please spare us your take on ‘morality’ in politics – however one-sided your “eyewash” might be. You, of all people have no right to pontificate on the mentality of the “common thug” whilst blithely ignoring all the “common thuggery” that took place during the administration that you found no fault with (save for the obligatory nudge and wink).

At least you are gingerly stepping out of the closet and displaying your true affiliations to those to whom ‘morality’ means less than nothing.

However ‘Inconvenient Truth’ may be, it is hoped that the results following August 17th will be a step towards Sri Lanka making more strides towards morality by first prosecuting those charged with murder, mayhem and massive corruption (and that includes members of ALL parties) and applying the just punishments to those found guilty.

I hope you agree that ‘morality’ is not just a “suckers dream” but something the country is in dire need of.

jango, jango, I am sure you know what Nietzsche said, “Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man”
And even 5th graders (of gifted programs) know what Nietzsche had to say about morality!!

      • 1
        1

Malinda, regardless of Nietzsche’s view of ‘morality’ (whether ‘Master’ or ‘Slave’), even regular 5th graders would understand the difference between good and evil. As for ‘Hope’, the connotation would be in the form of desire for a good or better condition.

Intellectual diversions won’t camouflage your intent so why not respond to the gist of the comment instead of the little games you seem to like to play?

Malinda is pretending to be stupid, or is he really one?

“There’s a lot that people might find disappointing in the Maithripala Sirisena – Ranil Wickremesinghe combo”.

Ranil did not have parliamentary majority to do a lot, but he was running the country better than how Malinda’s paymasters did. It was a very short time to do a lot. But, they managed a few things.

Malinda is trying to make a mountain out of a molehill in his verbatim.

“Sujeewa Senasinghe has been a deputy minister only for 7 months. He’s already operating like a common thug.”, argues Malinda.

Yeah… Sujeewa will take a little more time in power to act like a Royal Thug. Wasim Thajudeen, Lasantha, Prageeth, Baratha Lakshman, Raviraj, Joseph Pararajasingham, etc. are gone. Sarath Fonseka, Shirani etc. were clipped off. Mahinda Balasuriya, Sushil Premajayantha etc were slapped. He has some case studies to copy.

And…. the cheerleader of Maharaja has the audacity to say now…”DREAM ON SUCKERS”.

Malinda says also, “We won’t do anything different from what the previous regime did”.

Prey tell us Malinda, what you were not happy about what the previous regime did. Also tell us, please, what did you do about it at that time.

      P.S.
MS would have fitted in very well with the Bush administrations in the US where a total lack of principle and/or morality were the prime qualifications.

It is true Galleon Ravi’s over enthusiastic Pathlalaya mates have been up to a bit of mischief.

But all is not that bad in Yahapalanay.

Watching the new talent of Hirunickers on Ada Derana Debate Pit,, I nearly choked on my Soy Latte without Sugar..

The speech. the body language , with those dainty long fingers pointing even at the host, was a power packed performance displaying sheer talent.

What went through my mind was How blessed are the Colombo Elite , Anglicans , King’s Revival set, and Ms Dissanayaka’s Poodle Club members.to have Hirunickers on their side to restore their rights and put a stop to the every 90 second rape of them in the country

Ever beautiful Ms Rosy who seems to show a little bit of wear and tear without Botox, was there helping young Hirunickers with impressive Economic stats to rubbish every thing which the South has got from Rajapaksa development.

Hirunickers even mentioned about a Southern dude who laid One Hundred Virgins and held a party to celebrate the total.

This dude didn’t even have to wait for the next birth to indulge in Virgins ,in fact not seven but one hundred of them.

How sad it is that the Crusader against Kudu from Wanathamulla wasn’t there to watch the talents of his darling daughter.

Malinda s is trying hard to maintain his perks being habitual to enjoy under MR regime.

What happened to the other guy whose credentials are fallen to zero thesedays ? I mean Dayan Silva ?
All these men have to go pants down after August 17. I spoke to at least one of the varied walks of life inthe country, many of them want MR to be retired and live peaceful being not active in politics. Then only people could respect him anyfurther.
Once his son would be convicted for the Wasim murder soon, as avalanche of ice occured, the credibility of the MR et al will face it soon. Wait and see JAYA NIYATHAI

This writer was very much occupied hovering around Temple Trees mostly attending “Thamashas” and “Dansalas” accorded to thousands at our expense. Now after January 8th he sees DIFFERENT events taking place in the country that he explains in his article. He sees a Police Officer complaining against a Deputy Minister and that accused is summoned before courts. He also blames Ranil and the President not getting involved in the behaviour of the Junior Minister. I do not blame the writer, because, all that are taking place around are “FOREIGN” to him. He was used to a Junior Minister or Drug Lord taking the Law into his hand punishing the Law Enforcement Officer. Now it is the other way round. This we saw, when a Junior Minister was issued with a fine at the Southern Expressway exit for speeding. Later the Police Officer was given an immediate transfer. It did not stop at that. One day he was followed by thugs, attacked and his car burnt. To save his life, he resigned from the service and according to reports he left the country. This was the “Law Enforcement” that this writer was used to and the DIFFERENCE in handling such matters has made him “Mentally Imbalanced”. That is very well demonstrated in this article. IT TAKES TIME TO CURE THESE KIND OF MENTAL UPSETS. So bear with him.

Sujiwa Senasinghe should had had evidence. Other wise, accusing a person is not for a man like a deputy Defence Minister (was that his post ?).

Any way, as there was no evidence police officer should have filed a court case against Sujeewa asking financial compensation and newspaper apology for the mental agony and the humiliation Sujeewa caused on him.

Malinda says: “That’s IF he was ever really interested in ‘Change’. If not, the voters can rest assured that Sujeewa Senasinghe is a messenger from the future. His message is simple: We won’t do anything different from what the previous regime did”

At least there is an IF when Malinda looks at the future! For some reason, Malinda has written “IF” in upper case and “If not” in lower case!! May be he thinks that IF is more likely that If not!!!

Also of significance is that he doesn’t say IF the previous regime was bad. Malinda obviously believes that the past was definitely bad and the future will be good/bad IF …..

Thank you Malinda for being frank about how you feel about the past and about the future.

Your message is that the future being as bad as the past is subject to some conditions. That is, there is still hope for the country. If we facilitate those conditions, the future will be better than the past.

Let us hope that Ranil, CBK and Maithree will be supported by the right thinking MPs on both sides to facilitate those conditions. Together they can kick out the bastards who destroyed the country. And those who want to destroy it in the future. Recent history shows that Ranil, Maithree & CBK, if united, can indeed kick out bastards.

Which side do you want to take Malinda? On my part, I firmly believe that Maithree will be tough on the Senasinghes, Karunanayakes and Mahendrans of a future government. Ranil and CBK will have no option other than to go along. And, the signs are that the JVP and many others will be there to help.

You may say that if the trio does that, they will be in a minority. You have a point. That is where our country has been taken by the pathetic past. Not just the last mob, but many others before them. Of course the last mob was much better and more effective at it than the previous mobs.

We need miracles to put this country of ours on the right track.

But then, miracles do happen. Remember the one in January?????

    Malinda Seneviratne:
Would you please tell us why your patron, Mahinda Rajapaksa, has sat twiddling his thumbs for SEVERAL YEARS after Thajudeen’s death and now volunteers to re-investigate the man’s demise if he is returned to power?

Too long have you hidden behind Mahinda’s Satakaya and your ex-Trot father’s whatever. Is there ever going to be a time when you will try, no matter how futile the effort, to display even a smidgen of decency and GUTS? Or do you need your pal, Rajpal Abeynaike, to help in any such endeavour considering you are both birds of the same feather who flew together with the Rajapaksa Hegemony when it was was flying high?

Isn’t it just common sense Mr.Poorten. Thajudden’s body was placed to rest in peace until the ‘Jahapalaya’s thought it might help them to win this one if they disturbed the peace even with out a complaint of foul play from the family.
Now that the peace is disturbed and a semblance of a probe has begun, what else do you expect MR to say other than what he said.On the other hand if he said he is not going to continue, all hell will break loose on him saying that he is trying to cover it up once again.
