Deputy Minister of Development Policies and Economic Affairs Dr Harsha De Silva welcoming the arrests of Perpetual Treasuries chief Arjun Aloysius and the CEO Kasun Palisena called for the arrest of everyone involved in financial crimes including those named by PRECIFAC in 34 cases.

The high-profile arrests were turned into a spectacle when the arresting officers were accompanied by a crew from the television station Sirasa who focused as much on Aloysius as they did on his wife, for which the station has come in for a lot of flak in social media.
Sirasa headlined the story as follows: “ඇලෝසියස් අත්අඩංගුවට; බිරිඳ මාධ්යවේදියෙකුගේ කැමරාවට ප්රහාරයක්! (Aloysius arrested, wife hits out at a journalist’s camera).
Anjalee Mahendran who is the daughter of former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran has only had marginal relevance in the case, just being named during the hearings of the Bond Commission in relation to the mining of communication records.
Harsha De Silva elaborating on financial crimes said that the Attorney General should go ahead and immediately arrest those named in the 34 reports of Presidential Commission looking into serious crimes (PRECIFAC) as well.
Among those named in the PRECIFAC report recently released are former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, his brothers Gotabaya and Basil, and his sons Namal and Yoshitha.
Aloysius and Palisena are reported to have been grilled by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for more than 12 hours after being arrested on Sunday. The two were remanded until Monday (February 5) by the Fort Magistrate.

There were excesses no doubt; particularly when this bond issue became a part of the newscast each day with Sirasa staff giving their own views and making judgments, but let me tell you, if not for their unrelenting pressure applied, this would have been another ‘under-the carpet’ case.
Full credit to Sirasa therefore for having applied such unrelenting pressure and I hope they continue it, but if I were the producer, I would have had a special segment immediately AFTER each newscast, involving those fearless men of Sirasa, who did their duty by the public over this case.
Needless to say, had this been their stance during the Rajapakse times, SIRASAS would have been right at the very top of the charts for all time!!
