What instantly came to my mind when I read Shenali Waduge’s article on animal sacrifice was a scene from an old movie where we had the fascist Adolf Hitler furiously slamming his desk with his fist, his face as hideous contorted as you can imagine, saying ‘It is NOT right’. Those words happened to be the title of Waduge’s latest anti Islam tirade in the Daily News (Thursday 17 October, 2013). Not surprisingly the article was timed to coincide with the Muslim festival of Eid ul Adha when Muslims sacrifice cattle or goats to commemorate the selfless act of obedience of the Prophet Abraham (peace be on him) who was asked by God almighty to sacrifice his son Ishmael as a sign of his obedience to Him. When Abraham was about to carry out the command, God almighty, in His mercy, placed a sheep in Ishmael’s place and thus Ishmael was spared and the practice of animal sacrifice to remember the messenger Abraham’s (pboh) obedience began on that day and continues to this day. This practice shall continue till the end of time, God willing….or in sha-Allah, as we Muslims say. The flesh of the animal sacrificed or slaughtered is distributed among the poor and kith and kin, but mostly among the poor.
Now I know animal sacrifice and slaughter is disliked by some among us and I have no problems with that. I can live with it. Problems crop up when people want to enforce their wish and will on others who toe a different line. This is unbridled fascism and in a multicultural society like Sri Lanka the authorities must ensure that nobody encroaches on each other’s faith and beliefs.
I disagree with Ms. Shenali Waduge, as will all sensible people from all communities in Sri Lanka, when she makes a spurious and xenophobic claim that ‘the so called One Sri Lanka will remain a pipe dream if we suppress the fundamental values of the original indigenous culture….’ She has forgotten that Muslims are also a part of the indigenous culture. We had been here for centuries as history records as I, along other writers, had pointed out in our previous discussions on the halaal issue. There is no point in going over those matters again. Is it Ms. Waduge’s wish that we take a giant leap backwards and go back centuries where we can find that nobody other that the indigenous people the Vedhas lived? If I remember right it was the Buddha who said ‘nothing is permanent’.
Ananda the Muslim
Thomas W. Arnold records in his book ‘The Preaching of Islam’ of a certain Ananda, a grandson of Qubilay Khan from the fearsome Mongol tribe converting to Islam and become a zealous Muslim in circa 1323. He had converted a great many persons in Tantgut and won over a large number of troops under his command to Islam. He was the viceroy of Kan-su province. He was summoned to court and efforts were made to induce him to renounce his new found faith and to conform to Buddhism. When he refused to abandon Islam he was flung into prison. But shortly afterwards he was released for fear of an insurrection among the inhabitants of Tangut who were very much attached to him. This is just one anecdote among thousands of the peaceful spread of Islam all around the world.
Buddha and beef eating
And indeed there is evidence that the Buddha ate meat as did his disciples. At one point it is reported that he had advised his followers “Monks, I allow you fish and meat that are quite pure in three respects: if they are not seen, heard or suspected to have been killed on purpose for a monk. But, you should not knowingly make use of meat killed on purpose for you” Mind you this advise was only for monks and not the lay Buddhist.
Then there is the case of Uppalavanna, a female disciple, who prepared beef for the Buddha after a gang of thieves who had slaughtered a cow had left some of the flesh for her seeing how serene she was whilst meditating. The next morning she flew over 200 kilometres ‘as the crow flies’ to Rajgaha where the Buddha was staying to offer him the beef meal.
I have quoted the above two incidents from the newsletter Ajah Brahmavamsa published by the Buddhist Society of Western Australia to show your readers that the Buddha did eat meat as did his disciples. If the Buddha allowed meat eating then obviously he must have known that slaughter of animals for food was prevalent during his time as it is at present. So when Ms. Waduge’s urging of Buddhists not to sacrifice the first precept I wonder if she knows what she is saying considering that besides cattle other animals are killed and Buddhists do eat these meats. Also take the case of fish which probably go through the most agonising of deaths of all ‘sentient’ beings being asphyxiated sometime for almost an hour. Fish is found in buth (rice) packets in the delicious ‘Sinhala Kamay’ parcels. Going by these facts I am convinced without a shred of doubt that Ms. Waduge’s anti slaughter/sacrifce campaign is in line with her anti Muslims campaign. Bear in mind Shenali Waduge’s latest tirade also coincides with the BBS march from Kandy to Colombo against ‘halaal’ products.
Of course it is horrible to see videos of animal slaughter or even fish suffering when removed from their ‘homes’. There is this practice of animal sacrifice in Thailand, which follows Thervada Buddhism like does Sri Lanka, and I am sure these videos would be equally repugnant to some of us. I saw one from Thailand and another from India and I promised myself never to look at another one again.
Putin
I find Shenali Waduge citing Putin’s order that animals should not be allowed to be sacrificed in Moscow rather out of place and a desperate bid to quote somebody of some standing to support her xenophobia. It’s not like as if Putin was saying don’t slaughter/sacrifice animals anywhere in Russia. Russians are big eaters of animal of all varieties including cattle. If he were to stop meat eating he would be out of job before he could say ‘Ivan Ivanovich’!
DI leather products, liquor and casinos
DI leather products have been in business since 1938 and are among the few corporations that is making money. Now this wouldn’t happen if cattle were not slaughtered for food. This company supplies the army, police, air force and the navy with fine quality leather footwear and jackets. If cattle slaughter were to stop then this profitable company which also boasts of large export earnings would have to put up its shutters or become hypocritical and begin importing cattle skins from India. By the way India, where the cow is regarded as a sacred animal, is the largest exporter of beef, beating Australia, New Zealand and Argentina in the process. It is also the largest exporter of cattle hide and a large exporter of leather products. And yet you won’t find Indians complaining about this commercial enterprise.
One of the biggest problems confronting Sri Lankans is the proliferation of casinos. Add to this the scourge of liquor consumption and we certainly have a problem on our hands. But it seems Ms. Waduge is not troubled by these anti-social elements which are corrupting our society. All this goes to prove that she is gunning for Islam and the Muslims. A little sobriety on her part will do her no harm, I am sure.

Some times political correctness prevents people from asking the difficult questions. You have done so. This is admirable as it give us a chance to clear the air.
This is quite correct here. As you will see its all in the intention. It says things as ok as long as you were not instrumental in harming another living being.
Prophet Abraham sacrificed his son to as a sign of obedience to god. Does it say anywhere in your scriptures you can commemorate this act by taking away calves from cows and kids from a goats? How can it be “selfless” when these are living beings that you did not give birth to? To be true to god, should’t you sacrifice your own children rather than killing innocent animals that have their own families?

SCIENCE ACCEPTING GOD
‘ I am quite beside myself with wonder and infinitely grateful to God that it has pleased Him to permit me to discover such great marvels.’ (The Growth of physical Science by Sir James Jeans, p.173, Cambridge, 1951)
Maulana Wahiduddin Khan of Islamic Centre, has written a nice book entitled ‘God Arises’. (Published by Maktaba al Risala, c-29 Nizamuddin West, New Delhi,1987) in which he has collected the evidence of science and the saying of the scientists on the existence of Almighty God. He has narrated an inspiring incident in this book, which I shall relate. Allama Inayatullah Mashriqi had visited England in the year 1909. On a Sunday when it was raining hard, he met Sir James Jeans, the famous astronomer of the Cambridge University, going to a church with a Bible clutched under his arm. Mr. Inayatullah Kan expressed his astonishment that a person of such a universal fame like him is going to pray in a church. Sir James Jeans asked Mr. Inayatullah Khan to come to his house and have tea with him in the evening. Accordingly, Mr. Inayatullah Khan went to his house in the evening. Sir James Jeans was lost in his thoughts, he asked What your question was? But without waiting for an answer, he gave an inspiring description of the creation of the celestial bodies, their motions and the astonishing order to which they adhere. His voice and his movements clearly showed that he was deeply impressed by the Power and Majesty of God. He said You know Inayatullah Khan when I behold God’s marvelous feats of creation, my whole being trembles in awe at His majesty. When I go to church I bow my head and say, ‘Lord, how great you are’ and not only my lips, but every particle of my body joins in uttering these words. I obtain incredible peace and joy from my prayer. Compared to others, I receive a thousand times more fulfillment from my prayers. So tell me, Inayatullah Khan, now do you understand why I go to Church?
Hearing this Mr. Inayatullah Khan told Sir James Jeans that his words reminded him of a verse of the Holy Qura’n which he would like to quote if permitted. Sir James Jeans replied: Of course. Mr. Inayatullah Khan then quoted the following verse:
” And among the mountains are streaks, white and red, of diverse hues and others raven black; And in like manner, there are men and beasts and cattle, of various colours. Only those of His servants who possess knowledge fear Allah.”(35:27,28)
Sir James Jeans was deeply impressed by these words of the Holy Qura’n he exclaimed:
”What was that? It is those who have knowledge who fear God. Wonderful! How extraordinary! It has taken me fifty years of continual study and observation to realize this fact. Who taught it to (Hazrat) Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)? Is this really in the Qura’n? If so, you can record my testimony that the Qura’n is an inspired Book. (Hazrat) Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was illiterate. He could not have learnt this immensely important fact on his own. God must have taught it to him. Incredible! How extraordinary! ” (God Arises p.215 with reference to Nuqoosh Shakhsiyat (i.e.; Impression of Personalities) ( p .1208 -1209)
In short, the words Only those of His servants who possess knowledge fear Allah present a profound truth. The study of the universe not only leads us to the conclusion that God exists but also inculcates the love of God (Qura’n 2:164-166) and the fear of God.

78:7 : And the mountains as pegs?
79:32-33 : And the mountains hath He firmly fixed;- For use and convenience to you and your cattle.

The Qur’an draws attention to a very important geological function of mountains:
We placed firmly embedded mountains on the earth, so it would not move under them… (Qur’an, 21:31)
The verse states that mountains perform the function of preventing shocks in the Earth. This fact was not known by anyone at the time
the Qur’an was revealed. It was, in fact, brought to light only recently, as a result of the findings of modern geological research.
Formerly, it was thought that mountains were merely protrusions rising above the surface of the Earth. However, scientists realised that
this was not actually the case, and that those parts known as the mountain root extended down as far as 10-15 times their own height.
With these features, mountains play a similar role to a nail or peg firmly holding down a tent. For example, Mount Everest, the summit of
which stands approximately 9 km above the surface of the Earth, has a root deeper than 125 km.24

Mountains emerge as a result of the movements and collisions of massive plates forming the Earth’s crust. When two plates collide, the stronger one slides
under the other, the one on the top bends and forms heights and mountains. The layer beneath proceeds under the ground and makes a deep extension downward.
Consequently, as stated earlier, mountains have a portion stretching downwards, as large as their visible parts on the Earth.
In a scientific text, the structure of mountains is described as follows:
Where continents are thicker, as in mountain ranges, the crust sinks deeper into the mantle.25
Professor Siaveda, a world-renowned underwater geologist, made the following comment in reference to the way that mountains have root-like stalks attaching
them to the surface:
The fundamental difference between continental mountains and the oceanic mountains lies in its material… But the common denominator on both mountains are that they
have roots to support the mountains. In the case of continental mountains, light-low density material from the mountain is extended down into the earth as a root.
In the case of oceanic mountains, there is also light material supporting the mountain as a root… Therefore, the function of the roots are to support the mountains according
to the law of Archimedes.26
Furthermore, a book titled Earth, by Dr. Frank Press, former president of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, which is still used as a text book in a great many universities,
states that mountains are like stakes, and are buried deep under the surface of the Earth.27
In other verses, this role of the mountains is pointed out by a comparison with “pegs”:
Have We not made the earth as a bed and the mountains its pegs? (Qur’an, 78:6-7)
In another verse it is revealed that Allah “made the mountains firm.” (Qur’an, 79:32) The word “arsaha” in this verse means “was made rooted, was fixed, was nailed to the earth.”
Similarly, mountains extend to the surface layer joining lines on and below the surface, and nail these together. By fixing the Earth’s crust they prevent any sliding over the
magma layer or amongst the layers themselves. In short, mountains can be compared to nails holding strips of wood together. The fixing effect of mountains is known as isostasy
in scientific literature. Isostasy is the state of equilibrium between the upward force created by the mantle layer and the downward force created by the Earth’s crust. As mountains
lose mass due to erosion, soil loss or melting of glaciers, they can gain mass from the formation of glaciers, volcanic explosions or soil formation. Therefore, as mountains grow
lighter they are pressed upwards by the raising force implemented by the liquids. Alternatively, as they grow heavier they are pressed into the mantle by the force of gravity.
Equilibrium between these two forces is established by isostasy. This balancing property of mountains is described in these terms in a scientific source:
G.B Airy in 1855 suggested that the crust of the earth could be likened to rafts of timber floating on water. Thick pieces of timber float higher above the water surface than thin pieces
and similarly thick sections of the earth’s crust will float on a liquid or plastic substratum of greater density. Airy was suggesting that mountains have a deep root of lower density rock
which the plains lack. Four years after Airy published his work, J.H Pratt offered an alternative hypothesis… By this hypothesis rock columns below mountains must have a lower
density, because of their greater length, than shorter rock columns beneath plains. Both Airy and Pratt’s hypothesis imply that surface irregularities are balanced by differences in
density of rocks below the major features (mountains and plains) of the crust. This state of BALANCE is described as the concept of ISOSTASY.28
Today, we know that the rocky external layer of the Earth’s surface is riven by deep faults and split into plates swimming above the molten lava. Since the Earth revolves very quickly
around its own axis, were it not for the fixing effect of the mountains, these plaques would shift. In such an event, soil would not collect on the Earth’s surface, water would not accumulate
in the soil, no plants could grow, and no roads or houses could be built. In short, life on Earth would be impossible. Through the mercy of Allah, however, mountains act like nails, and to
a large extent, prevent movement in the Earth’s surface.

Vibuhana, you have clearly missed the point. Prophet Abraham’s (PBOH) faith and trust in God was put to the test, when he was asked to sacrifice his own son Ishmael (PBOH), who also became a Prophet of Islam. The test was to ascertain if Prophet Abraham’s love for his was greater, or obedience and love to follow his Creator was greater. He proved the latter and had succeeded in the test.
To make a long story short, when he tried to cut the neck of his own son, the knife did not cut although it was a very well sharpened knife, which he had already to ensure a quick cut, in preparation for carrying out this act swiftly. God (in His plan) had taken away or removed the knife’s ability to cut. There is a lesson for us in that too. Nothing ever happens without the will of God. After three times of trying to cut his son’s throat without success, Prophet Abraham got very frustrated and threw or aimed the knife onto a rock, which supposedly cracked open. In this we know the knife was heavy and sharp. Thereafter, an angel brought down a goat from heaven and requested Prophet Abraham to make the sacrifice on the goat instead. He had passed God’s test of obedience, greater love on God more than the love for his off-spring, which incidentally was ver near and dear to him, as he (Ishmael) was his first and only child, born at very late stage ofhis life. He had two sons by the way, Ishmael and Ishak. Now this tradition of animal slaughter started from this point. There is no question of parents slaughtering their children to re-enact what Prophet Abraham tried to do to his son, instead we follow the nominal slaughter of the goat instead, which was carried out as replacement. This is also a biblical story as well as related in the Holy Quran.

If so, What kind of hypocrisy is it that you take medicine to kill the worms living in your guts to save yourself from getting sucked dry to death. Why kill mosquitoes, cockroaches, rats, snakes and other poisonous insects, if not to protect yourself from harm. Why in Australia they are killing kangaroos, and they call it sculling, to keep animal population in check? This could very well happen in our own country if cattle are not regularly slaughtered, they would end up being killed or is it sculled in this case. How you can eat Fish, eggs, dry fish, delicious prawns, wear leather slippers, belts, sit on posh leather car seats, wear buttonns made from animal horns, including a whole lot more of animal products in your daily diet, without killing these animals? Why Colombo getting spruced up with all the stray dogs getting destroyed? Why, why, why I ask that all you people don’t realize that you killing animals directly or indirectly, and that it is a way of life, whether you like it or not. Then we must shut down all the chicken farms, close the fish market also, close the egg centers, what can be more foolish than that? Why try to be pretenders and hypocrites to become Bodhisatvas, when say and practice just the opposite. Animals are meant or have been created for us humans. To use for travel long distances over hostile or inhospitable lands, drink of its milk, use of their skin as shelter from the extremes of weather and as bags, and its meat in all forms as food, barbecued, baked, fried, cooked, hot or cold meat whatever. Don’t deny to yourself that you truly don’t touch it.

Fine. Prophet Abraham did what he was told, obeyed, to show his loyalty, was even prepared to sacrifice his son, and God rewarded him by substituting the animal. Fine.
The Problem is the extension of this sacrifice to all mankind, so that, multitudes of living animals are sacrificed. It it is symbolic, why not make clay animals and just sacrifice them, and recycle the materials for next year.
You have got myth mixed up with tradition. Did anybody ask God was it needed?
After all that is what people do with statues. Examples are Buddha statues and other Gold statues.

Amarasiri, I understand your point of concern, but it doesn’t work that way. Both animals and plants were created by God in His infinite knowledge, for the benefit of us humans, and the most natural way to keep the population growth in check is through consumption as food. If these natural laws are not followed, then in times of a population boom, they would need to use unnatural methods such as in the form of culling, which again is another form of killing, but of no benefit to anyone as food.
The biggest miracle is that animals slaughtered for food, never seem to reduce or dry up. Every day, the animal population remains in plenty. Surely, it should dwindle some day, sooner than later. That is truly a gift to us, mankind. So who needs clay to put together a replica of an animal for purpose of slaughter, when you can get the real thing virtually free. Which for us, comes at a price due to middleman doing business on the side. The same with the fish in the ocean, the water we use for bathing, drinking and washing clothes, for which we are made to pay dearly by the government. Possibly next, a tax for the air we breathe. All free gifts from our Creator, which mankind has taken control and commercialized to benefit himself.

What is mentioned in the Quran is not considered a myths as you suggest, as these are God’s own words revealed through the Prophet, as actual events that happened in our past, and are a part of own Islamic culture. The Quran is now translated into so many different languages for all the world to read and understand.
We Muslims wherever in the world we may live, re-enact that sacrifice (Prophet Abraham’s goat sacrifice) as a yearly ritual, started way back nearly 1430 years ago. What ill-effects has this animal sacrifice caused if you perceive it to be a bad thing, or having so called ill-effects on the country, as some suggest. Saudi Arabia, country with the highest record of animal slaughter during Hadj period, is one of the richest nations in the world. It is better, at least from now on, to accept this ritual as the reality. ‘Meka thamai Yataarthaya’ is it?
Animal slaughter worldwide is a trillion Dollar business. What is involved in the animal husbandry business? What is cattle farming? Why we need livestock investment? The Qur’an is explicit about this:
Their flesh and blood does not reach God. It is your piety that reaches Him. (22:37)
The second purpose of sacrifice is to provide a means of performing charity. Thus, the meat from a sacrificed animal is traditionally divided into thirds, with one third kept by the sponsor of the sacrifice and his close family, one third given to more distant relatives and friends, and one third donated to the poor.

Fortunately I dont read what Waduge writes or most of the others on Lankaweb. They are a gang of racists no second to Gandasara & Co. You mentioned Weinberg saying “Religion as an insult to human dignity”.
This intelligent man must have said this about present humans (beings ?) and also not considering imperfections of human beings. Anyway, if you think about average human lived 2000 years back, how they spent a day, making basic necessities, then make food and eating them and sleep. So those average people were very close to other animal. Then some intelligent people at those days created various Gods, theories of human existence (religions?). Those finding were the only knowledge, science, average people had those days other than eating and sleeping… Those religions are/were the base of human civilisation in the last 4000 years.
You may say now that we don’t need those fundamental teaching on human qualities and how to improve our inner selves. But still majority of people prefer religious knowledge about their conscious and sub-conscious mind and imperfections of human beings.. This is getting quite long…. I stop….

In the days of Buddha, monks and nuns depended on alms for food. Hence, the Buddha had lain down several rules on what to accept and what not to accept. I agree that it could be summed up as Vibhushana above says.
However one must not forget that we as Buddhists recite five precepts every day and at some occasions to reinforce the importance of it in our minds. The first precept means; “I undertake the training rule to abstain from killing.” Our history tells us that our ancestors have adhered to it as much as they could. It was king Devanampiyatisa who set it as an example more than two millennium back by giving up his gaming habit after being a true Buddhist on the arrival of Ven Mahinda. So, I do not see any wrong in Ms. Waduge’s urging Buddhists to follow suit.
Muslims want to believe the absurd story of a Jew named Abraham and his One God who he called not Allah but Yahweh and kill all kinds of animals in mass scale as a ritual at Eid al-Fitr. On the one hand Muslims accuse upright people like Ms Waduge as bigots so as to make animal killings a part of Sri Lanka culture. On the other hand they ridicule Buddhists telling us that we do not abide by Buddhist precepts in an effort to promote their halal.
Lets look at how good Muslims follow their religion. Idol worship, drinking, gambling and usury are just few things that are prohibited by the God of Islam. I thought this writer is one of those Muslims that strive hard to save the habit of worshiping the remains of a so-called saint in Kuragala cave. Some Muslims even venerate their dead Mullah named MSM Abdullah (Rah) as saints. Is not that kind of things idol worshipping Mr Hameed? Have you not seen Muslims who drinks and enjoy it? Have you not seen Arabs gambling in London casinos? Do you not know that a Muslim man named Thaha ran the biggest bookie in Sri Lanka in the sixties? Tell me, which Muslim does not engage in borrowing or lending on fixed interest. Is that not usury?
What I am trying to get at you is, Muslims are fouling Allah’s orders all the way. If Allah is omnipresent Muslims should know that he sees everything wrong they continue to do as above. Or is it that Muslims bluff themselves and care only for some words of Allah and not all of it. I bet they don’t care for they know Allah had to wait till they die to send them to hell.
Neither Buddha nor his disciples ever forced anyone to be a Buddhist. Buddha didn’t say we would go to hell if we reject his dhamma. Indeed, one doesn’t have to be a Buddhist to go to heaven as a God. It all depends what goes in our minds and particularly the moment of death.
Your rambling on life respecting Buddhists eating fish that goes through ‘agonising deaths’ is understandable. But we have a value system for sins. Killing one’s parents is one of the highest sins. So, life of a worm can be put at a very low ebb. That means, however agonizing the death of a fish is, we cannot put it as equal to killing a cow that that gives us milk and shed tears in fear its deathbed.
Muslim kids gleefully watch Mullah killing a cow at Eid al-Fitr but we Buddhists cannot do so for it is against our conscious. In the final analysis that’s the difference between a Muslim and a Buddhist.

In a study entitled Attempts to Objectify Pain and Consciousness in Conventional (captive bolt pistol stunning) and Ritual (halal, knife) Methods of Slaughtering Sheep and Calves’, carried out by Professor Wilhelm Schulze and his colleague Dr. Hazim at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Hanover University, Germany, several electrodes were surgically implanted at various points of the skull of all animals, touching the surface of the brain. After the animals were allowed to recover for several weeks, some animals were slaughtered in the Islamic manner mentioned previously, by the cutting of the trachea, esophagus, the jugular veins and carotid arteries. Other animals were stunned first before slaughtering. During the experiment, an electroencephalograph (EEG) and an electrocardiogram (ECG) recorded the condition of the brain and the heart of all animals during the course of slaughter and stunning. The following results were recorded:1. The first three seconds from the time of Islamic slaughter as recorded on the EEG did not show any change from the graph before slaughter, thus indicating that the animal did not feel any pain during or immediately after the incision.2. For the following 3 seconds, the EEG recorded a condition of deep sleep – unconsciousness. This is due to the large quantity of blood gushing out from the body.3. After the above-mentioned 6 seconds, the EEG recorded zero level, showing no feeling of pain at all.4. As the brain message (EEG) dropped to zero level, the heart was still pounding and the body convulsing vigorously (a reflex action of the spinal cord) driving a maximum amount of blood from the body thusresulting in hygienic meat for the consumer

The budhdhists & the muslims ( not forgetting the tamils, christians) have lived in harmony for 100s of years. As a person originating from a small town village in Sri Lanka I had the blessing of co-living with multi ethnic groups of people. We used to celebrate the Eid spreading the joy involving the budhdhists,Tamils,Christians and whenever there was a another religious occasion we muslims were active participants of the procession. We used to exchange gifts, food and used to give great respect to the pillars of each others faith. We knew the budhdhist do not eat meat in general the food we exchanged was free of any meat, and similarly when they used to send us food, there was no pork or alchohol involved in it. We used to exchange food that was made of pure brotherly love- the muslims used to toil in the market doing business, while the sinhalese were busy ploughing the field producing rice to all communities. There was constant collaboration amongst all of us as a single social group.
There is dire need for a communal harmony and peace to be brought back. It was never lost, the path was clouded by People such as Ms.Shenali Waduge and the people who claim that they do justice by raising false concerns in writing articles, going around beating the communal drum. All of us should get together as a single Sri Lankan nation and do away with these types of people (be it Muslim, Budhdhist or anybody)I sincerely pray to almighty allah to bless this nation with peace loving people who will help each other in dire times such as these. THE BUDDHA BELIEVED IN A SUPREME BEING
“And the Blessed One, this connection, on that occasion, breathed forth this solemn utterance: “There is, O monks, a state where there is neither earth, nor water, nor heat, nor air; neither infinity of space nor infinity of consciousness, nor nothingness, nor perception nor non-perception; neither this world nor that world, neither sun nor moon. It is the uncreate. That O monks, I term neither coming nor going nor standing; neither death nor birth. It is without stability, without change; it is the eternal which never originates and never passes away. There is the end of sorrow.
“It is hard to realize the essential, the truth is not easily perceived; desire is mastered by him who knows, and to him who sees aright all things are naught. There is, O monks, an unborn, unoriginated, uncreated, unformed. Were there not, O monks, this unborn, unoriginated, uncreated, unformed, there would be no escape from the world of the born, originated, created, formed. Since, O monks, there is an unborn, unoriginated, uncreated and unformed, therefore is there an escape from the born, originated, created, formed.”
