Yoshitha Rajapaksa, and four others including Rohan Weliwita, head of CSN and media secretary to Mahinda Rajapaksa and Nishantha Ranatunga were remanded till February 11, 2016 by the Kaduwela Magistrate this evening.

The five were arrested this evening by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) today after several hours of questioning with regard to alleged financial irregularities at the Carlton Sports Network (CSN) channel.
Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, his wife Shiranthi their eldest son, Namal, as well as Basil and Gotabaya Rajapaksa were at the Kaduwela Magistrate when the verdict was delivered
Speaking to the media soon after the verdict was delivered, Rajapaksa said that Minister Rajitha Senaratne had recently declared that two Rajapaksas will be arrested before February 4th. “So, now we can see who is pulling the strings,” he said.
Rajapaksa added that he was hoping for a fair verdict when the case is taken up again. “We are watching and waiting, and we are hoping that the courts will give us a fair verdict. “I know they have not committed any crimes,” he added. (By Munza Mushtaq – CT)

When the mother visited him in jail, he grabbed her neck through the bars and told her that if she had reprimanded and stopped him on the first day he brought home a pin, he would not be where he was!
Nothing hurts parents more than their children being hurt, whatever their station may be. I think it would hurt more when they suffer due to the ommisions, commisions and sins of the parents.

Today I saw a video clip (in Ada Derana) in which Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse addressing a crowed of people and perhaps the Media and mentioning the news of his son Yoshitha’s arrest he received. He also said: “I asked Yoshitha, you are to be arrested and then he told me, yes and he said look after your work” (Thathe, Thathage vedak balaganna”) He also said: “that was our tradition since 1936”. If one listens to the words I have put in Sinhala (those were exact word of MR) such expressions are always made out of anger and frustration to “shun” a person and does not want any more trouble. But as usual our ex President doesn’t get the message; but takes in high spirit and attribute that remark to his family’s glory.
This “Royal Baby” should have been “Dishonorably Discharged” from his position in the Navy, when it was confirmed that he did not qualify to be recruited. Apart from that the “Person” instrumental and responsible in that illegal recruitment and spending Rs. 22 million out of peoples’ money on him for training abroad and thereby kept out of the country very surreptitiously preventing from joining the rest of the combat forces who fought valiantly the war on Terrorist Movement of LTTE, MUST also be made “Accountable” and charged to RECOVER those funds belonging to the PEOPLE of this country. I hope this “Financial Irregularity” committed, viz. the emoluments paid and the money spent on illegitimate training, by a Member of the ROYAL FAMILY too will be investigated without delay and charged for “Misuse and Mismanagement” of Public Funds.
The intended “Holiest of Holy” purpose of this “illegal Recruitment” of this Royal Baby to the Navy as stated in the Parliament the other day was to ENCOURAGE the YOUNG PEOPLE of the country to join the Armed Forces to fight the war on Terror. With the “Confirmed” revelations made by the Committee who investigated this matter of “illegal recruitment” and “illegitimate” expenses of Rs 22 million, what would be the OPINION of that 98.5% literacy rated, rice eating people of Sri Lanka? Do you STILL take these “WAR HEROES” into your CONFIDENCE and TRUST them to be “PATRIOTS”? Would the “Buddhist Clergy” – The Guardians of the Religion and the Country, provide any further a “Political Platform” in their Temples to put these “War Heroes” back to power? Time has come to find answers to these questions and also get the present Government to address these and very many issues confronting the country without any further delay.

There is a news item in “Sunday Observer” (State Media) stating that the Government has sought the advice of Attorney General as to the “Legality” of the FCID. We know this matter is already before Courts and the petitioners among many is Mr. Gotabaya Rajapakse. However, the FCID continues to function and the latest arrest of Mr. Yoshitha Rajapakse was done by this unit established under the Police Ordinance. When those petitions come up in courts, it is the function of the Attorney General to “Defend” the Government and protect the “Identity” and the “Legality” of this establishment called “FCID”.
So, the question now is: Why at this time the Government is seeking the “Advice” of the Attorney General as regards the “Legality” of FCID? Didn’t the Government seek that advice before establishing this unit under the Police Ordinance? Doesn’t this move “smell” foul and we are unable to comprehend as to the Government’s intentions as regards the already concluded and on going investigations by the FCID. What if the AG rules that this FCID is not legal? Then the arrest of Mr. Yoshitha and most others along with all those investigations would have to be set aside. If that opinion is given at this time to the Government, then the AG will have to appear and tell the Courts same and allow those petitions to succeed.
What is going on here? Any DEALS? Who will be CRYING and who will be LAUGHING? Is this the Government that claims and sends out a message to the International Community as to its “CAPABILITY” to handle the matters relating to the Geneva Resolution?
