Anura Star

By Arundathie Sangakkara

Gota must be digging in to his cake, still. According to his posters covering Colombo, “Whole Country Is Absolved And Free”. Gotabaya must be imagining that he is this whole country.

Such is his immature narcissism.

Poor Gota.

The ‘Brave Son’ cannot speak without the teleprompter. So brave was he that a deposit was made for Chamal Rajapaksa for the Presidential election! Gotabaya is an organic failure at managing his emotions. Even a small question posed can escalate in to a death threat. This rabid wolf is not easily unleashed by Mahinda, the seasoned politician in the family. If you causally unleash the Gota Wolf he might kill us, kill Mahinda, demolish Chi-Chi’s rocket, suck on the bones of Frederica Jansz, rip out the stent in his own heart and use that stent as a toothpick! Although exaggerated in jest, the reality of Gota Wolf is not so far off. His abilities to self-destruct and destroy others are both exceptional.

Srimath Dad- SriMouth Son

Yahapalanites and Sajithites are consoling themselves that the “independent judiciary” has issued and independent verdict. It is the complicit UNP government that paved the way to Gotabaya who should be behind bars, to the secure cradle of Presidential candidacy that offers an array of indirect protections. When he was protected like a baby by Sirisena, Rail, Sarala et al, where was Sajith?

According to both the President and Sajith, Sajith spent his time in government repeatedly refusing the offer Sirisena made to make him Prime Minister.

When Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe holds a similar conversation with Nissanka Senadhipathi, she is interdicted. I quite appreciate it. As per the legal nature and the ethics of her office, that is the fate deserved by Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe. However the question is, does that principle apply to a Member of Parliament and a Minister who holds incessant conversations about “deal-or-no-deal” with a President who is the Chairman of a different political party? Who gave him the moral absolvement from such activity? No one has “Absolved and Released” them from this. They have forgiven each other and continue their political cuddle. What sort of an empty argument is “He gave me- I didn’t take- I’m so good”?

According to an article written to Colombo Telegraph by Grusha Andrews, Sajith “Srimath Sirisena’s Darling Sajith”. Very first days in to his election campaign, Sajith displays his political instability and his inability to weather the stress of the campaign. He is referring to his own mouth as “Sri Mukhaya”, the Holy Mouth. As a Facebook post jokingly explained “Srimath Dad- SriMouth Son! Is this really the guy who is dreaming of being the next president of our Republic? What kind of a mentality does he have? Where will our country head with him?

Elections and Public Relations Companies

Sajith’s election campaign is professionally executed by a foreign Public Relations company. It’s the same with Gotabaya. May be it is so with Mahesh Senanayake and Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Sajith’s campaign is so affluent to cover the full front pages of national newspapers with the image of Sajith from the word go. The election wealth of Gotabaya has not come out yet. It is a wealth overriding Sajith’s. We do know how that wealth of Gotabaya was earned; how the black money was laundered.  It was the UNP government in which Sajith was a member that protected that Gotabaya.

The job of election PR companies is to apply political make up on people, imply non-existent importance and give an illusion of non-existent intelligence and humanity. They also create news, infuse the internet with memes, spend money on boosting posts, brainwash people and build illusions of leaders. Regardless of red, blue or green, this is the political reality. At the end of this election we will all clean the polythene and the cutouts and sweep our backyards. At the end of that cleaning what is the country that is left for us? Is it a ‘new country’? ‘A country you feel like living in?’ A ‘just society’? Will we get new leaders? Will old murderers and looters get new punishment?

 No.

The Wolf Avoided The People’s Forum

On October 5th The People’s Forum, a programme where the presidential candidates were featured and questioned on one stage was held. This was telecast live on all TV channels. Gotabaya did not attend this important event. Looks like the unleashing of the wolf was refused. Even if it were unleashed, the wolf only knows how to growl. To bite; to look for its next meal. The wolf does not know how to converse. One of the inalienable features of a vibrant democracy is that important elections are hall marked by debates among the candidates. Gotabaya is too immature politically to understand this; he is also politically uncultured. In Gotabaya’s actual country, the United States of America, presidential debates are entwined with the very idea of presidential elections. But in this instance the ‘patriotic hero’ has run away in the first round itself!

Sajith Premadasa, however, showed his political maturity by attending this forum. He came, he behaved in a gentlemanly manner and he showed he was a democrat. One must appreciate it.

Is There A Star?

The importance of an effort such as the People’s Forum is that it gives the voters the chance to make a comparative estimate of the candidates. As such programs cannot be fully controlled by a programme director, it gives an opportunity to glimpse in to the natural view of the candidates. It connects the voters with aspects of reality.

According to Gotabaya’s paid cyber soldiers, both Sajith and Anura are inconsequential candidates that Gotabaya should not bother debate. In the exchange between Sajith and Anura, it was apparent that in a complex political sky, the Anura Star is unmistakably born and a script reader called Sajith is also present.

When this Presidential election is done and dusted, and after the PR Company’s bills are paid and they have returned to their own country, we will be left with the newspaper adorned by Sajith’s beautiful smile. Oh, also we will be left with Sajith himself, the ‘puthano’ of ‘piyano’. The newspaper, we can use at least to wrap the rice packet. But what can we wrap with Sajith?

If the National Hero from America wins my two options would be to shut up like a demure Sinhala lady or choose death.

The Difference Between The Two

Let’s consider the answer given to the same question by Sajith and Anura at the People’s Forum

Question: How will you empower the institutions and structures that work in relation to independence of the judiciary, human rights and national security?

Summary of Sajith’s answer: (after obtaining permission from the “exalted, respected, most venerable monks…. and thanking the organizers) he stated that he will do so by de-politicizing those institutions and structures. He states that all sorts of people are interfering with the processes of the judiciary and he will create an environment where the “war heroes” can do their job without influence or interference. He will also establish cohesion and peace amongst ethnicities and will add the concepts of economic rights and social rights to complete the concept of human rights.

Summary of Anura’s answer: (following a brief thank you) with regard to establishing the independence of the judiciary, it is my belief that there is nothing wrong with the institutions and the structures. The problem is that the political culture is demolishing those institutions and structures. There is differential treatment of the way judicial processes are carried out, depending of the wealth and the power different people possess. Our main struggle will be to ensure that the law is the same for all regardless of power or money.

As for national security, it should be established within and without. As for internal national security that should be established by not allowing racism or religious extremism raise their heads. Under no circumstance will we allow such extremism to surface.

As for the challenges to national security from external forces, these external forces do not emerge as armed conflict anymore. They come as economic pacts, defense agreements and trade agreements that are designed to weaken our state.

Strengthening our independent economy, achievements is the power and energy sector and strengthening our economy will ensure resistance to external threat to our national security. In addition well managed international relations will also contribute to this.

Throughout the People’s Forum it was apparent as to who possessed the intelligence and the deep economic and political vision; the social sense, justice and national identity. You can ascertain this by watching the flowing video from 1.19 hours onwards.

Sajith’s arrival at the People’s Forum itself is a victory for democracy. He represents the largest singular political party in Sri Lanka with a large voter base.

Anura is entering the presidential race as the alternate third force. His voter base is lesser than that of the UNP.

However Anura possess a valuable wealth that both Sajith and Gotabaya lack sorely. That is Anura’s fair political spirit. This can be seen to anyone with equanimous eyes.

Anura Star has risen.

Arundathi Sangakkara: I think you did not catch the main theme of the two answers that Sajith and Anura gave. Sajith said: “We have to do it”, in Sinhala ” “KALA YUTHUI” while Anura said: “We will do it and that we promise and assure” . In Sinhala AKD said ” SAHATHIKAI”. There is big difference in the words “KALAYUTHUI” and “SAHATHIKAI”. In short one” Kalayuthui” is “NICE” to do while “Sahathikai” is a “MUST” to do and will do it. This is the MESSAGE” the People must be given and understood by the People.

Wow, what a blast of fresh air! Keep it up Arundathi!
However, all those who are in the current parliament are tainted
I would vote for Mahesh Senanayake, the civil society candidate who is not afraid to speak out against Superpower Terrorism as happened during Easter attacks.
JVP’s AKD is also part of the corruption racket at the Cesspit Parliament where USAID fake advisors on fake reconciliation and devolution have promoted a culture of privilege, perks and impunity and immunity for corrupt politicians.
AKD has kept silent about the US and Saudi role in the Easter carnage and like CBK US puppet Bond Ranil and US citizen and Manchurian Candidate Goon Gota failed to educate the people that the Easter attacks were Economic Terrorism and Maritime Hybrid warfare against the people of Lanka unleashed by Trumpland to set up military bases in the island now the the Chagos Islands is contoversial

Sajith’s body language and absence of UNP’s key players around him tells a story. PR companies can do only so much when UNP sends signals of division. RW faction is “unwillingly” supporting him. Unless the re-group and send a message of unity things are going to be tough…

      Chris,
I think that the absence of UNP stalwarts like Ravi & Ranil has to be viewed not as a signs of weakness; rather as signs of strength b’cos Sajith cannot complete anti-corruption agenda with whose who change of priorities that delayed hopes of 2015 victory. Ranil should take the responsibility for not following up on Wijedasa Rajapakse (WR) who was determined to protect Avent Guarde b’cos of his close ties with Nissanka Senadhipathi & GoRa. I also believe that the SLFP group in the cabinet did their best to complete WR’s betrayal. I’m confident that under Sajith, nobody, not even Ranil & Ravi, will be able to play such games.

If I say anything about Arundathi’s fav, I will be in the bad books of CT for sure.
    ‘-
As a Dalit I have to give it to Keselwatta Kid for abandoning the all mighty Dr Ranil and his Elite, Anglican and Vellala Faction and winning the Candidacy on his own, with a little help from Mom.

It is even more striking , when Keselwatta Kid put all his Eggs in the Dalit Basket , when the so called representatives of the Dalits are now embedded with the ardent supporters of Dr Ranil from the Top end Of Colombo.

I love the poster of the Kid in my neighborhood where that Keselwatta Mouth full of Colgate ( or is it Signal) teeth are in full display alongside the sweet smile of the Running Mate the Kid from Kolonnawa , the beautiful Hirunickers.

What a sight to see them watching over my neighborhood which is made up of high net worth individuals who are mainly from the TNA and the UNP .-

Every time I walk to buy the Bread , I wonder how lucky us punters are to have such a Combo to govern us for the next 4 &1/2 years…

However what disturbed me was how this Beautiful running mate got hooted out somewhere in Kolonnawa yesterday.
When Hirunickers fronted up to the Crowd , the hooting increased by many more decibels .
And the Yahapalana Police Officers were forced to escort the Running Mate to her Black Defender..

But it was some sight when that 6 foot something beautiful UNP future female Leader strode up to the gathering probably to explain some of what Keselwatta Kid told the Journos at the Grilling Session with the JVP ADK.which Arundathie is talking highly. here.

BTW wonder what happenbduction in a Black Defender?..

Yes of course. Working within one’s own country merits is far more complex and requires far more creative ability. Compare that to than siting easy and lazily handing the ability of the country to an extraneous conglomerate.

A government is no longer about national security problem. It might have been in the monarchs’ time. A government manages a wide range of problem for its country. Neither UN nor IC can be isolated away from those issues. If you use petrol, that is international environmental problem. Brazil jungles cannot catch fire as per UN. If you lease your sea for China to exhaustive fishing, that is an international problem. There is no country in the world, which is following the JVP communism has solved their economic problem. If Anura says that by solving the economic problem he would solve the external threats, what kind of funny joke is that? If he has said that solution to internal security problems, it may make some sense. Unless Don Stephan had started with Tamils’ jobs in the estate industry, unless SWRD had introduced Sinhala Only thinking only those five Panchamies were the Lankawe’s citizens or if Sirimavo had not nationalized the private industries and introduced standardization………..Old King would not have written off the Colombo Pong Ching to China.

China too had given the loan for war along with India for the 400 Billion dollars needed for war. And China helped along with America, Iran, and Israel. Still it was Sirimavo’s China Communism guided Old King to give CBK’s $250M Nuraicholai plant contract to China for $540M. After paying $300M additional & when the plant was not working, Old King threatened communist China that he would leave the plant with India. That is why China brought down the computers and captured the Colombo Pong Cing. Can Anura explain, honestly, where and how the national economic weakness made Lankawe to surrender to China, by that now it is having the security problems? In all future of Lankawe, it needs Chinese veto. So they never can go out of China’s dominance. This why we have repeatedly said the China is here to stay permanently in Lankawe.

  • 1
    2

As long as China cannot be forced out of Lankawe because of its needs Lankawe for its Indian Ocean BRI, internal economic growth will not get India or America out. He is saying that managing well the diplomatic relation will solve external security problem. In fact Kathirgamar, the Sinhalese super star in diplomacy is the one brought all those 32 countries into Lankawe to claim their share out of Lankawe. One time’s, the high flying Lankawe Aappa Diplomacy has now turned out into external security problems. When JVP member of the PSC in 4/21 asked Hezbollah how he has brought in Rs 3B into the Island, OIC said if Lankawe talks about it, they will impose Economic sanctions. Ariyasinghe is behaving like a dog on the leash and daily barking in UN non stopping. Further, destroying the British style economy has brought the internal security problem. In reality Anura has no solution to this. That is why Ranil wanted to make deals with Old Brother Prince so he can keep all IC dogs to follow the bitch’s tail. But Vaalaiththodam Jr is destroying Ranil’s effort.
When Old King was on the thrones, OSIL named 42 of those murderers as war criminals. In Jan 9th, 2015 Old King had send out all others were in his home, in time, and was waiting at Temple Tree house to launch a coup. If that had happened Old King might have been on UN electric Chair & now all of Lankawe’s security problems would have been solved. But Ranil diverted the West’s attention and keeping the problems alive.
Communist Anura is not a star, but an asteroid, that is called as falling star.

There is no doubt he is a politician on his own style ..
In his debate; in his language; in his body language; in his rhetoric; in his description; in his attack ; in his joke; in his logics ; no Sri Lankan politician is equal to him ..Niether Sajith nor Gota could argue with him..

He will break nose of Gota with his language skills ; he will shut the MOUTH of Sajith with his language skills .

Yet does public care about him?
    No?
    Why?
    Ideological battle and mistrust

    Arundathie,
You avoided several of my questions I posed after your essay, “I will vote for JVP”. Therefore, instead of wasting time for questions I will point to a huge flaw in one of your major arguments.

I would like to draw the attention to the Anjuura’s “summary answer” to question on empowering institutional structure in order to maintain the independence of judiciary etc. I also believe that AKD’s response contain the kernel of empirical truth about the eternal conflict between social theories & their application in the real world by real people. At the deepest level this is arising from the conflict between the higher level of social norms & ethics and the instinctive selfish personal desires of human beings.

I wish if AKD extend his valid response to explain why the application of Marxist model, despite the initial enthusiasm, utterly failed in application all over the world. I don’t deny the the fact that a major part of the failure lies in the flaws of the theory itself (Philosophically meaningless and theoretically false), but, as in the case of maintaining a society abiding by higher level of ethics, it is the human factor ultimately destroyed the Marxist dream.

AKD’s answer also explains why aspiration of 2015 democratic victory failed to capitalize fully. Failure doesn’t mean we should opt for already failed utopian theories; it only expose the need to identify corrupt individuals and move on.

D.p. ….it’s Neo-Marxism this time around – the type that works with Capitalism without being an ideological enemy. AKD said he was going to use Marxism to clean up Lanka’s failing Capitalistic structure. It will be Socialized Capitalism.

        1

        ramona theresa fernando,
Marxism without its the ideology is like Hamlet without the character of Hamlet! I don’t deny the theoretical possibility of reforming Marxism as Trotsky did. But, any such reformed versions must have new names with explicit exposition of reformed aspects. For example, at the philosophical level, is it still holding on to the claim of dialectical materialism when, in reality, it is not? At the theoretical level, with what the theory has replace the Labor Theory of Value? A mere sticker of Neo-Marxism won’t cut it!

Capitalism, in practice, always contained socialism. No Gvt can ignore the well-being of the needy- elderly, sick, disable, etc. Unlike Marxism, Capitalism is not a political economic theory; it is only a set of economic theories. Politics is separate entity that defines the set of rules for people to operate economics and other personal activities. In human world, Laissez Faire is not equal to “let it be” as in “survival is the fittest”. Gvts operate with the principle of, “by the people, of the people, for the people”.

          0

          D. P. …..ok….let’s put it this way:
          *
          1. Neo-Marxism: Gov. operating “by the people, of the people, for the people” without the Oligarchs/Kleptocrats.
          *
          2. Dialectical Materialism (European term for common sense that Lankans had innately before colonization—-I’ m sure there’s a Buddhist term for it)……so this thing will take Kleptocratic Lankan billionaires and reform them into into oligarchic millionaires (100:1….one billion is 100 times a million). To stop the dialectical forces (where voices of the masses cry out of justice because of the excess materialism to benefit a few), materialism will be balanced so that excess Bull-S goods and services won’t be forced on the public to balance out e.g. the global $$ for oligarchs.
          *
          3. Labor theory of value : same as no. 2. Only essential goods and services to be produced.
          *
          4. Capitalism is drip-down socialism. Neo-Marxism is flow-down socialism.
          *
          5. With Oligarch and Kleptocrats around, Capitalism does not need to be a political economic theory. But for the suffering Masses, Marxism has to become a mantra so they can at least get some crumbs after all the hard work…..as long as the Marxist leaders don’t betray them with personalized perks from the Oligarchs/Kleptocrats.
          *
          6. As per Laissez Faire with a bunch of Oligarchs/Kleptocrats operating by the principle “by the people, of the people, for the people”….now that’s a shining example of an Oxymoron.
          *
          7. Hamlet would have made a very good Marxist king. But his Klepto uncle had to cut him down.

Purely on a psychological perspective. Gota looks Presidential. People are judged by their looks. This plays a massive role at the end of the day. Anura looks sinister and sajith looks immature.

Educational Qualifications of the three main candidates.
Gotabhaya– just scraped through GCE(O.L.) to be able to join the Army knowing very well higher education is not a possibility.
Sajith– Could not even scrape through GCE(O.L.) says done some education in UK and USA but ended up doing politics as his father.

Anura Kumara- Science graduate(B.Sc.) Physics as one of the three subjects. Seems intelligent from the way he handles questions and the way he behaves in parliament.

Gota and Sajith need prepared speeches where as Anura is able to speak impromptu . Sajith speaks BS while Gota tries hard not to speak BS.
People have to decide wisely whom to vote.

In tech world, products are made by developers who speak less, and sold by sales people who speak a lot. Here, in SL, we need someone to build the solutions, not buy the solutions that don’t exist as this is what we have been doing. Give chance to people who talk less and listen more.

I admit I did not view the debate but eager to know the details. First of all, where the hell you were, all this while ?? I may not be familiar with names but who cares, please keep writing. There is only one way to say the truth to us, Lankans and that is the “hard hitting way”. Just beating around the bushes, discussing all kind of intellectually stimulating political theories, who said what, what Marx and the rest said really dosent matter, when we do not have decent personalities to begin with. All the in depth party analysis and mind storming discussions may satisfy “the ego” of the writers/participants but will help to picking a decent human being , especially when there are no options provided. Party line, bias and other shit may cloud one,s own vision but not provide three square meals. Madam please keep writing. I assure there are enough people who appreciate truth be told. Lankan politics in general since independence has been “Family Politics” which has been a “revolving door to insanity”. Senanayakas , Bandas JR/RW , Rajapaksas and now Premadasas.

What a cry in the dark….
When you say “”like a baby by Sirisena, Rail, Sarala et al””…. who is Rail and who is Sarala???. Cousins of writer..??

AKD is a looser and you cant make a star out of a loser.

And if you wants us to be worried by couple of Gotabaya’s interviews ask AKD to justify the killings of people like Premakirthi.

We have seen what your “”vibrant democrats”” can do in 2015 and afterward.

”Electoral politics are about the reality of the times and the timing of decisive actions. And what those supporting unwinnable candidates during this crucial moment fail to consider is the political path after the elections…The conundrum we face at this crucial time is the need to defeat Gotabaya, which only Sajith is capable of, but also challenge the politics of Sajith, and continue the ideological struggle after the elections…”

What kind of logic is DayanJayatilleka propagating via quoting Ahilan Kadiragamar’s ridiculous logic?
In a presidential election, there will be only one victorious candidate. Rest are all “unwinnable candidates”.
Whether a candidate is and “unwinnable candidate” or not is a retrospective diagnosis. Do Dayan Jatatilleka and Ahilan Kadiragarmar even believe in parliamentary democracy to make these statements.
By this loigc people should all vote for SP ( as this is the candidate favoured by DJ) . So why hold an election?
THe very construct of a democratic election for a president is that we choose one candidate to make others unwinnable candidates.
What DJ means is that people should not vote according to their conscience because Ahilan Kadiragamar has a mental list of candidates that he believes cannot win.
These individuals appear to be worried that the “unwinnable candidates will fracture Sajith’s votes.
The need is not just defeat Gotabaya. DJ and Kadiragarmar needs SP for their personal gain, probably. The need is to increase the number of honest politicians getting candidature from the major political party. The need is to change this disgusting system.

THINK ABOUT IT! NOW! BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!

“DIVISION IN THE FACE OF THE ENEMY WAS NEVER A REVOLUTIONARY OR INTELLIGENT STRATEGY”: Speech delivered by Fidel Castro, at the University of Havana, on March 13, 1965.

OK, so apply it to the Sri Lankan election: the Centrist Populist, the Reformist Leftist and the Radical Leftist compete, they all lose and the Authoritarian New Right candidate wins. Who will lose more narrowly? Who will be the bigger losers and incur the more lasting and higher cost of the victory of the Authoritarian New Right?

Abstruse, bull-shitting theoreticians are the worst enemies of the people struggling to protect their basic rights. We, layLankans, have been conditioned to accept that our choice is restricted to a Rouges Galery.
UNP putting forward Sajith is not a victory for anything but is a gamble which is “Will Sajith outrun the extreme rightwing nationalistic SLPP?”

  • 0
    0

For the victory, what’s Sajith has to manage is matters cropping within the party.

Party has made him the candidate & the victory is going to be transitive as what happened in 2015 election where the apparent winner was MS but actual winner was RW.

His ability to openly demonstrate in the rallies that RW won’t be the PM anymore in SL will decide his victory.

Unless election results will be like Gota/AKD 1st/2nd & SP 3rd.

Not even a day passed since writing my comment, DJ comes out stating “in 1965 Fidel Castro said ??????” DJ, trust me what ever he said, may satisfy your ego in quoting (Fidel and Ahilan are of same league ????) , but Lankans right now dont give two hoots, because they are concerned of food, shelter, jobs, cost of living and in general their own existence. If you can write some substance, like this writer well and good, otherwise please keep your quotes for your high end dinner table conversations.
