Army Soldier Shoots A Father Of Three To Death – Police Claims Man Tried To Snatch Fire Arm

A father of three was shot to death in front of a school this afternoon by an Army soldier. The father had gone to school to pick one of his kids who fell sick in school.

The incident occurred at the Akmeemana Manawila Upananda Vidyalaya this afternoon when the father – identified as 39 year-old Pradeep Udaya Kumara – went to the school after receiving a call from school. He had been informed by school authorities that one of his children fell ill and had asked him to accompany the child home.

When the father reached the school, he had been shot by the soldier right in front of the school.

At a presser this evening, Police Spokesman SSP Ruwan Gunasekera confirmed the murdered man’s three children attend Akmeemana Upananda Vidyalaya.

According to the army soldier, the murdered man had got into an argument with the solider when he was asked to present some form of proof of identification.

The solider claims the man then attempted to snatch his firearm and that is why he shot him – a claim that sounds eerily similar to the way arrested individuals are suddenly shot to death by the Police, while they were leading search parties to a location where weapons were allegedly hidden.

    Army Soldier,

You had the wrong target. Very sad and unfortunate. You should have aimed at Sirisena.

Then, you would have been hailed as a Hero by 6.2 million or more as as a true Ranaviru.

This is what happens when you give a gun to a Monkey to guard a school. The monkey had shot a father of 3 children who attends that school unfortunately.
Apparently the school has informed the parent to come to school urgently as one of his children had fallen ill..
The idiotic Gun maniac did not have the Brain to verify the cause of this unfortunate father wanting to go in urgently to meet his child.
Lack of communication from all sides.
The school should have informed the Gun toting maniac firstly that a father is expected at school.. Thus did not happen.
The Gun toting maniac did not have the capacity to question an Anxious father.
This is the wonder of Asia there’s no other like it in the hole world.
Illiterate imbeciles have been given jobs to secure the safety of a school .
Illiterate imbecile products of Sinhala Mafia Schools education are given responsible jobs .

Now it’s happening in main land Srilanka.
Now the Army and the School will fabricate the story in a way only Moda Sinhalyas can understand!!!
Unfortunate family has lost a concerned father and a husband.

        Analyst,
I think that you are jumping to conclusions without knowing what led to shooting. I heard that the deceased father was also retired navy man. It is possible that his ego got in the way leading him to challenge the person on duty when asked for ID. If the school called home, they also should have informed the security to let the guardian in. What if the deceased father had a different intent? Who will be responsible then? I think that the soldier on duty has tried to do his job right & that it is unfortunate that the incident ended up with a death.

It is not Sirisena who should be shot but those sneeaky bastards who promoted a traitor, sevalaya and patholaya as the leader of the cursed YP movement which is nothing but a dirty conspiracy and deceived 6.2 million people. I don’t believe these bastards themselves were deceived as they are now pretending to be which amounts to admining their own IQ is much below 79, only their crafty plan of grabbing presidential powers and transfering all to the cunning traitor RW went aury. Patholaya is madder than they thought.

Yes. If the soldier did that , he will be hailed as a Ranaviru Multiple Times, and that day will be celebrated as the True Ranaviru Day, the Country got liberated.

Too sad for the children and the widow,. They will have to endure this tragedy, just like the victims of the Easter terrorism by the Wahhabi terrorists, and the Sinhala “Buddhists” Terrorism against the innocent Muslims. May the father Rest In Peace.

US Police has honed this. The shooter, if charged, almost always gets off the hook. After three or four hung-jury, the case is aborted.
In SL, the political connection of the offender matters.

K Pillai: Serpents like you are the worst Tamils. Remember the KAruna and LTTE was accused for killing the Two police men in Eastern Sri lanka. It had some foreign backing. Even the govt tried to neglect it by accusing and arresting some former LTTE cadres. But, Zaharan’s group who is backed by foreigners had done it. As it is a soldier, no hanky panky, Army will find it the truth

          Many Hindu temples disappeared.

Very unfortunate. The soldier should have contacted the Principal and verify the truth. The father could have forgotten to bring his ID in a hurry. But if the soldier and the father are from the Security Force (Army and Navy) they could have sort it out easily. The fear created through Zaharan’s bombing of churches are the consequences of such acts. Every one has a fear as to who and are terrorists. But the government is bent on saving the Muslim Ministers having links with terrorist group. Emotions of either parties are the cause. Life once lost cannot be regained.

This is nothing but “STUPIDITY” in action at all levels. (1) Did the School Administration inform, the security personnel, of the pending arrival of a parent to pick up a child? (2) Why the parent enter into an argument with an armed security personnel stationed at the school, especially during a high alert situation? (3) The security personnel should have had the discipline, in conversation and resorted to check with the school to let a parent enter even with the failure to produce identity. (4) Why this parent, being another engaged in armed services, did not care to be more cautious and discipline himself to follow the rules, rather than rushing to take away his child. All these point to one serious LACK OF DISCIPLINE and “DON’T CARE ATTITUDE to follow and live a life according rules and most importantly the INCAPACITY to make SOUND JUDGEMENT. It is the result of complete BREAK DOWN of Law and Order.

This father was in Navy earlier so he should be fully aware of the procedure during this time when security is important.

Suppose if a “72 VIRGINs FAN” grabbed the gun entered into the school and shoot students .. the public will blame the soldier.

This is the problem when people are genetically weak …

Suspicion was not the motive for the shooting so what you say does not apply here. Further, this incident reflects the inability of the “most disciplined soldiers in the world” to restrain a person without resorting to the use of lethal weapons. Also, it is curious that the army and the police will never shoot at rampaging mobs.

did they check the dead man to see whether some sort of ID was there on his person.he should have had his identity card, navy identity or drivers licence. What if the soldier is lying and he did show his identity card and then just rushed past the soldier when he got it back. You have to wait for the soldier to say okay, now you can go.The father in his state of mind may have not followed that step.

ps.Grabbing the gun is all BS given by the soldier.Like the arrested guys who used to throw grenades by the bucketful at the police.

Since the wording is the same, and posted in succession, the writing is likely to have been off-line (e.g. Word Document on Hard Disk), and he must have posted using different e-mail addresses.
        .
This highlights one of the problems, though. Owing to the use of all these pseudonyms, it becomes difficult to carry on an effective discussion. I often release my real name because when I say something I want to be taken seriously.
        .
If you are ever left guessing who I am, please let me know. I will reveal my name as registered at birth, and the only identity I use in real life. My handle is used to re-assure Tamils like you that there are some non-racist Sinhalese.

Dear Sinhala_Man, I know you thoroughly well.
          .
          1) You are one of the serious ‘commenter’s, on this site. I am not.
          2) You have an aim. I don’t.
          3) I have reservations about your position(s). I keep them to myself.
          .
We show no sign of redeeming ourselves. We are rotten to the core. No one likes to take a serious person seriously. Most of the ‘commenter’s use this platform either as a pastime or as a podium for propaganda.
          .
I think, in the end, none of the comments on this site, has ever helped anyone to think afresh. Most of the frequent posters repeat themselves, ad hominem.
          .
Only a minute fraction of the voters – who can bring about a change in the right direction – patronise this site. The problem is that you cannot do it with English. I am not able to communicate my ideas in Sinhala.
          .
You want to help to liberate the people. You favour NK to take you (and us) to that elusive dream. What chances are there for NK to get the massive backing he would need. Nil.
          .
A mass movement, by a well known Sinhala face, only can do the trick.
          .
That face has to be ‘educated’, learned, and patriotic. If you can think of someone who fits that description, back that horse.
          .
          I have said enough.
          .
If you are still there with me, thank you.

I’m sick of soldiers being excused and called innocent. The guy chose to be a cog in the killing machine called the Army.
      .
I have advised scores not to join the armed forces because there you are forced to obey orders to kill. “there’s not to reason why?”. You know where that line occurs, don’t you?

The poem can be recited stirringly, and I have done so, but then pulled the audience back to the horror – which even Tennyson was conscious of. But all so innocuous compared with what we’ve had in Sri Lanka itself.
      .
I’m a poor man; lived almost all my life in Bandarawela. I was told to name my price, and go teach English at the Military Academy in Diyatalawa. I refused – so I can afford to tell these mercenaries that their being in the armed forces is the choice that they made.

Sinhala_Man, during WWII the Army was a disciplined force..they were soldiers and gentlemen. During the 30 year war the military became killing machines. These people are worse after the war as they still have the killing instinct. These are dangerous beings to be posted in front of schools. I blame the Principle, the head of the institution, for not having used his common sense when he agreed to have soldiers to guard a school. This is a good eye-opener for authorities to be warned of the consequences of having soldiers around public places.

During WWII top men in the Army were Non-Sinhalese
Top men in Police were Burghers and Malays.

          Dear Kalu Nangi,
          .
Here’s something that I came across last night; I think that you will savour much about it:
          .
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fb3k6tB-Or8
          .
I feel that all readers would have heard of Bertrand Russel, but few would have heard him speak. He was speaking here in 1952, at the age of eighty. His foresight in some matters is amazing. He had realised the importance of Asia, and of world over-population.
          .
There are recordings of him made even later, which I haven’t evaluated yet.
          .
I guess that most also know that it was a member of the Russel family who built Adisham in Haputale, where the assassination of S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike was plotted.

Perhaps you also know, Sinhala Man, that yet another member of that family, Martin Russell, who was in SL during the war, befriended & patronised George Keyt (also became friends with Lionel Wendt & Ivan Peries), & built up a substantial collection of his early work. He also wrote the very fine text for the first book on Keyt (published in India 1950?).

          PART ONE
          .
Thanks, Analyst, for what amounts to a huge compliment; but it just won’t get done.
          .
I hope all this is considered to have some relevance!
          .
Akmeemana, near Galle, is an area that I don’t know well enough, albeit all my ancestors seem to have come from close to that area. Like any other human, I had four grandparents: one an Idrisinha (yes, spelt like that!) form Halpatota, Baddegama. A Dissanayake from Lelwela (a village between Baddegama and Wanduramba), another Dissanayake from Urala (very close to Wanduramba), and a Wikramanayake from Baddgama. But the father of this Wikramanayake grandmother had moved to Kalegana, Galle; he taught at Richmond College, Galle for 49 years.
          .
Now this man who taught so long also married two sisters (in succession!) and had thirteen children at least. Much of this information I have got from genealogies that are on the Internet, but they don’t really mean much to me. Anyway, one son was a Proctor and State Council Member for Hambantota East (home in Tangalle). His clerk was Don Mathew Rajapaksa who became the State Council Member, thereafter. That was the Uncle of Percy Mahendra. There are various tales of double-crossing.
          .
I’ve visited the South, but I just can’t mount the operation that you request. I’m now a stranger, there, and an old man. I know that one of our problems is that very few people speak out, but I know that I must attempt only what is possible.
          .
Don’t despair too much; hopefully, somebody else will step into the seeming void.

I’m a little disappointed in you for not having followed up on the mammoth task I have burdened you with. Sorry about it as you say that you’re an old man , wish to point out that age is only a number so keep up the good work.
Moral values have no place in our society anymore. I can be an arm chair blogger to instill a pinch of moral values in humans but I also feel it’s a waste of time.
Chin up chap you have a job to rant here on CT atleast of the goings on in our wonderful broken island nation as same as I do.
Hope for a new lot to take this country forward. At present the whole lot of them from the North to the South ,East to the West all 225 of them in the Parliament are useless fellows.
Awaiting for your tbc… Wish you well.

          Analyst,
          .
You probably made the request owing to my having formally complained to the Police about Islamophobic hate mail. That concerned a school very close to my home in Bandarawela. I know the place very well.
          .
You could read what I said about the place three years ago, but I wouldn’t recommend that you now plough through all the comments.

          .
By and large a happy outcome to that complaint. The offender has been set thinking. He has telephoned me, and I have persuaded him to listen to this talk by a good Buddhist monk:
          .
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVr17VcWQFk
          .
Regretfully (and amazingly) the Anglican Priest-Headmaster seems quite unconcerned. I don’t relish the possibility that a major operation will have to be launched to counter this man’s selfishness.
          .
By the way, let me stick my neck out by saying this about Akmeemana. The SLFP MP for the area is one of the best – much better than the father who was the Minister of Education in the 1990s. The son is Medical Doctor, Ramesh Pathirana. He’s a quiet man who doesn’t over-assert himself.

These Jihadis including colombo Telegraph ooerate with clear aganda. They will use anything and everything including human rights, common sense towards their goal of making this country an islamic state. when Pakistan was born it has muslims only 80% within a decade they made it to 95% wait and see the real islamic face when their number pass beyond 35%. 35% is enough to grab power. Then you can see the true face of these Jihadis who now speek human rights diversity minority rights …

Islam is always focused on grabbing power, they are less than 10% in population but they are always over represent in cabinet. look at the numbers, even a mulim convinced and become hindu religious affairs minister. To know their real face go to eastern province and see how they suppressed tamils when once they become powerfull. Analyze whole LTTE – muslim interactions and the killings by muslims, compare the numbers find out what these muslims did. i am not supporting LTTE, they did not have patience, but all their killings are reactive. Most of the time anti ltte or killings and oppression against whom ltte sensitive to was done without evidence or suppressed. For example Laxman Kadhirkamar prooved to world especially us and eu that there was not any bombing happened in Pudhukkudiyiruppu market but inreality there were more than 150 people killed on the spot. i reliably learnt that night an executive order to kill Luxman Kadirkamar was made, but it took them 8 more years, and they could do it at the worst time.

” i am not supporting LTTE, they did not have patience, but all their killings are reactive.”

LTTE never wanted to share power. Before LTTE, there were many Tamil militant groups. LTTE destroyed all these groups (PLOTE/EPRLF etc); some leaders were personally shot by VP. After that, LTTE killed the TULF leaders and then other politicians and Tamil intellectuals who spoke against them. LTTE resembles Nazis in many ways, demanding blind obedience to a fascist state and dictator.

i read a solution for the Islamic problem, if every government in the world apply sharia on these barbarians all these retarded will run away from Islam. The jihadis like Colombo Telegraph would be confused too. By applying Shariyah you can simply execute Rizad, Hakkeem and all the suicide terrorists for having bank account

Oh just killing one guy is nothing for us. I thought it is a pleasure killing humans and not only Muslims but even Sinhala Buddhists will end up in heaven. For us human life is the cheapest, cattle, goats, pigs are more valuable than human. We kill humans and dump the bodies in rivers, sea and bury them in mass graves. Here we are making a bid fuss for one life. We have killed people in places of worship, hospitals, refugee camps, schools, beaches, homes, so what this fuss about. And that too for just one life. This does not make any news even. See our Karuna Amman, a great warrior, killed 800 surrendered cops and how he was rewarded. He overnight became as diplomat Kohilawardena and then a deputy minister and even party secretary. We value only the lives of the killers who kill others and not the one who were killed. Ask Gotta and he will tell you what it is all about. He will ask you who is this Lasantha? Why talk about only him? We have killed so many and why this Lasantha? Ask about the Tamil students killed at Trinco beach and who cares about the dead but we cared for the killers. We are even great at killing people who surrender and that is fun. We marched naked the Kataragama beauty queen Manamperi along the holy city of Kataragama and shot her half dead and allowed her to die. The killer was a hero. The guy who battered Rajiv was a hero. The day Premadasa was murdered our HLD took the midnight flight out of Colombo. He too should have been rewarded and now he is a frequent invited lecturer about Sinhala Buddhism, its origin, and even patriotism. he also knows about para dhemalu brought into Lanka after 1505 by Portuguese.

    Dear Nada,
    .
Please suggest solutions which are more acceptable.
    .
What you say is essentially racist, although “communalistic” may in some ways be considered more appropriate.
    .
You see, Tamils have long resented the fact Muslims don’t identify with you, although they speak your language. Muslims in Sri Lanka have long chosen to define themselves in terms of religion rather than “ethnicity”. I don’t particularly like it, but let them do so. They certainly should do more to integrate more with other social groups.
    .
Ethnicity is no subject for a layman – and what’s the point of studying genetics in any case, unless it be to establish paternity or the like. Let’s get on with living our all too short lives meaningfully.
    .
Linguists speak meaningfully of language groups being either Dravidian or Aryan. I’m sure that we Sinhalese have nearly identical DNA as you. Let us all unite – first as human beings, next as Sri Lankans.

I totally object to the title of this news item.
An army soldier DID NOT shoot a father of three to death.
An Army soldier DID SHOOT a man who forcibly entered into a school disregarding soldier’s warning for not doing so. Moreover, the man had tried to snatch the weapon.
Parents should know that they should follow procedures that are in place to protect their children at schools.
This soldier was not there to protect his own children.
Under the scorching sun and torrential rain, he was standing there to protect other people’s children.
Soldiers who have their own children, have given their lives to protect other people.
Even the Police officers. For an example; when the Police raided Muslim woman suicide bomber’s house, she blew up killing 3 Police officers. People should remember that those Police officers could also have children.
    The incident happened is unfortunate.
But, the soldier did not plan it.
The circumstances of the situation have led to an unexpected end.
My sympathy goes to the children of the deceased. Some people’s meaningless arrogance bring forth unfortunate results.
The loss to the children is irreparable. But, I wish the Army could do whatever is possible to share the pain experienced by the children of the deceased. (Over to you, Mr. Army Commander.)
As I mentioned in my comment to a Sinhala daily, I blame the Principal for his failure to inform the gate about father’s entry into the school at an odd hour.
The Principal and the school staff should take the collective responsibility for the death, not the soldier!
