A father of three was shot to death in front of a school this afternoon by an Army soldier. The father had gone to school to pick one of his kids who fell sick in school.
The incident occurred at the Akmeemana Manawila Upananda Vidyalaya this afternoon when the father – identified as 39 year-old Pradeep Udaya Kumara – went to the school after receiving a call from school. He had been informed by school authorities that one of his children fell ill and had asked him to accompany the child home.
When the father reached the school, he had been shot by the soldier right in front of the school.
At a presser this evening, Police Spokesman SSP Ruwan Gunasekera confirmed the murdered man’s three children attend Akmeemana Upananda Vidyalaya.
According to the army soldier, the murdered man had got into an argument with the solider when he was asked to present some form of proof of identification.
The solider claims the man then attempted to snatch his firearm and that is why he shot him – a claim that sounds eerily similar to the way arrested individuals are suddenly shot to death by the Police, while they were leading search parties to a location where weapons were allegedly hidden.
