UNP Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera will surrender himself to court soon, after the Matara Magistrate Court issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with the October 5 intra-party clashes in the Southern city, Colombo Telegraph learns.
The order came after police informed court that enough evidence existed to make the arrest.
Court also ordered the arrest of 10 others in connection with the violence.
Mangala Samaraweera is an ardent supporter of UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and led his supporters against the anti-Ranil Marchers in Matara last weekend.
Both sides took to violence during the clashes, but so far the bulk of those arrested are members of the Samaraweera faction.
Samaraweera, is a former Foreign Minister and Campaign Manager of the Mahinda Rajapaksa presidential campaign in 2005.
He defected from the UPFA in 2007 and set up the SLFP Mahajana Wing after which he formally joined the UNP.

Good that thuggish politicians are being arrested..
Politicians of Lanka, from the Govt and opposition, are equally ROTTEN and CORRUPT and the SCUM OF THE EARTH – time is running out for them..
The CULTURE OF IMPUNITY that surrounds ALL politicians in Banana Republic must end..
Hope this is a start. Look forward to the day that the Rajapassa brothers are behind bars too..

Lot of friends will be “right behind” mangala.
That will make him a very happy man, I bet.

There you go again! Are our Kangaroo Courts ready? New drama for public entertainment coming soon!
PS: Anybody can be arrested at anytime in SL. Justice is blind! Except for those with immunity. That means cronies and henchmen of the gigantic ruling family.
All others beware. Including corrupt power brokers from previous regimes.
Cheers!

CT should know that there are certain sinhala slangs that simply cannot be translated. All I wrote is a group of five sinhala words.
Had I written it in English not only it would have would have lost the lustre but may have taken a paragraph to convey the message.

Though i don’t agree with Mr Mahendran(media) he has all the right in the world to express his views.Bottom line, thank you Ranil,Mangy,Karu we don’t need you.We will survive with MR who is supposed to be a war criminal.WE are not interested in a Batalanda repeat performance.Known devil is better than the notorious devil. No mote Batalanda/Tharawatha Ajith scenarios.

If Sajith would violate all laws in and out of UNP, his fate would be the same as his father^s. He should prove the nation that he is capable of being the leader of the grand party, not only being greedy to become the leader. This kind of idiots can only create problems to the party self and then to the nation/country. He is absolute the last choice if no other candidates of UNP are there.

Finally MR gets a chance to nail Mangala.
On a different topic still people should have doubts how Sripathi Sooriyarachchi got killed. -:(

I don’t believe he acted on his own but also hard to
believe that he will ever say anything about his “top”
advisers or other behind the curtain triggers.MARA
patiently waited for the prey.Look at the timing.Next
SPC election around the corner and already a big fish
from the Grand Old Boys organization, without much hassle,
making it more easier for the family.Unless the citizenry
got tired of the regime,Uncle Nephews are never going to
make it by any of their labor.Hold on, another possibility!
Is this another Dayasiri in a different style?A former
foreign minister, and a close associate of three leaders
and two presidents, in a street brawl with party rebels
who don’t have party positions anymore. Are these the kind
of people talking about world politics? What a disgrace!
And don’t forget to judge the leaders by the company they
have or have had!Very soon we will have to close down all
textile shops,we won’t need them. One more vital suggestion.
Children don’t need popular schools to become shameful
leaders of tomorrow.

Mangala is really MARA’s man in the UNP, tasked with destabilizing the party and keeping Ranil as Leader, at any cost.
/
K.A Sumanasekera / October 15, 2013
Couldn’t imagine those obese UNPers going hand in hand with a lady boy to support his partner.
What has happened to this iconic party of the Elite and the Anglicans?.
No wonder the Vellalas have now rallied behind Wiggy and want to contest on their own in the Tamil dominated areas in the South too
This is a good sign for the future of our inhabitants.
