Azath Salley has been released a short while ago. His detention order was revoked by the president. He is at a private hospital now.

Agree. It was the right thing to do Dr. Narendran.
And I happy Mr. Salley can now be with his family. And continue democratic politics.
Downside is shrewd President bags praise for releasing a political foe. After first arresting the guy using PTA. Abuse of power.
Same story with General SF. First massive, unlawful abuse of an opponent. Then play Mr. Nice Guy by releasing the man.
Sri Lankan nation is suffering from “Stockholm Syndrome”. Kidnapper has become our sole defender and ally.
Collapse of rule of law is further proven by this case. Sri Lanka is unfortunately a family run dictatorship now.
Rajapassa clan can do as they wish now. Until they are unceremoniously removed from power. Soon I hope.

I am not sure whether Dr. Narendran is so satisfied. I don’t think he can be fooled so easily either. If you have only read his writings on CT.
More likely, he is happy for Mr. Salley, his family and Sri Lanka as a whole, with this outcome. Given the situation we find ourselves in right now, in the country.

What a pathetic servile set of buggers thanking the President after Azath Sally is released. What is there to thank him when he wrongfully arrested him. MR should not have arrested Azath Sally in the first place without verifying facts. Next MR will kill individuals as Khuram Sheik and say sorry and these buggers will pardon MR because he said sorry.
Today the Supreme Court has postponed Azath Sally’s FR application knowing very well that he will be released and more so after the snub received by the De facto CJ after the Matara Lawyers have refused to felicitate him. What disgraceful characters these are?

Ben Hurling,
The Government(= President) is beginning to see the limits to what it can do, as the memories of the war recede from public memory. Mahinda Rajapakse is an astute politician and am sure is beginning to smell the change in winds. The ‘do, come what may’ attitude is slowly changing to ‘test and retreat’. Very soon and hopefully, it will become ‘think before the leap’.
Please read Dr.Dayan Jayatilleka’s interview published in dbsjeyraj. com today. It is a good analysis of the current situation. I am sure it will defintely make MR think and review matters.

Dr. Narendran,
According DJ’s article you refer to. DJ is not sure himself who is actually driving policy in Sri Lanka.
Implying national policies of great impact are driven by an unelected, unrepresentative and unaccountable Neo-Con. Gota.
GOSL = MR = GOTA!
The most powerful bureaucrat/politician in the country. Believe it or not.
Would be very wise of MR to re-assert peoples’ will invested in President’s office in Sri Lanka. Presuming that MR himself was elected in reality. And not by “Gilmart” or election abuse. MR should firmly place Gota exactly where he belongs.
Agree with you. To a great extent, in the analysis, DJ hits the nail on the head.

Dr. RN, MR knows f*all.
The man is sick. He is a power freak.
He doesnt like any obstacke around him. Just because elected as the president of course by a fraction, he thinks ‘Mama Thamai Pora’. Without any knowlegde (40 years political experiences is just rubbish, If you kick a thuththiri gaha ten of them will fall), brain or education he is playing havoc thanks to his megalomaniac character plus his inferiority complex which is in his genes/family and his father D.A had too. But D.A was a podiyan those days in front of those pillars such as Phillip Gunawardene, PBG Kalugalla, CP de Silva, Stanley de Zoysa, TB Ilangaratne, CAS Marikar, Maithipala Senanayake, Vimala wijewardene so on.
Rajapaksas are on rampage. What they are doing today is legalized extorsion, or rather robed in broad day light. They hate pilitical opponents. HATS OFF to Mr. Salley for raised his voice loudly in public against this mad family. Now Salley paved the way for others to oppose too. Salley was nothing in the polics and little known to many until this inhumane arrest. But the mad Rajapaksas made him famous. Every Muslim must respect him for what he did for their community. I as a Sinhala Buddhist wish we too have a couple of bravea as Mr. Salley. Well Done Azad, people are with you. Thank you.

Atleast over 500 mio folks from India hate him.
Over 350mio EU folks dont find him as a good leader.
Over 200 mio of americans would not agree with his politics.
Nor would Canadians be on his side for sure.
No some asians and other countries ( over 100 mio) in the regions would support him as a leader..
So entire world would not recognize him as a leader…

Firstly it was wrong to use PTA arrest Azath Sally. If the PTA is used wrongly he should have taken immediately to use his power to release him. Secondly he has not apologized to Azath Sally and his family. He has not taken any action against his brother for his misuse of PTA. The fact is that he surrendered to the Pressure from muslim community and human rights organisations and International community and the fear of CHOGM going away from Sri Lanka. Nay Doc, the truth is that Azath was arrested under Gota’s orders. Azath’s arrest was not instigated by nor to the liking of brother King MR, since he (Azath) is a high profile political candidate, who had a clout with minorities, which also drew too much international attention. MR is actually taking the brunt for his brothers abrasive behavior. It is the same with Gota’s BBS misadventure, which ultimately ended up with the violent attack on Fashion Fabric storehouse. Everything died out with the meeting of IOC’s 57 Muslim member countries. As brothers, nothing ever comes out into the open, but there is some internal squabbling going on, as to who is in charge of what.

Well, would we see a King Kasyapa Scenario Here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigiriya
The Culavamsa describes King Kashyapa as the son of King Dhatusena. Kashyapa murdered his father by walling him up alive and then usurping the throne which rightfully belonged to his brother Mogallana, Dhatusena’s son by the true queen. Mogallana fled to India to escape being assassinated by Kashyapa but vowed revenge. In India he raised an army with the intention of returning and retaking the throne of Sri Lanka which he considered to be rightfully his. Knowing the inevitable return of Mogallana, Kashyapa is said to have built his palace on the summit of Sigiriya as a fortress and pleasure palace. Mogallana finally arrived and declared war. During the battle Kashyapa’s armies abandoned him and he committed suicide by falling on his sword.

Dr.Rajasingham Narendran,
That’s the way for Salley to go forward. I bet had Salley not send that inclusive affidavit to the President he would still be in custody. If only Salley wrote his now famous letter to the President and pointed out errors in his interview reporting and deny his connection to separatist terrorists in an affidavit before he was arrested, I mean his innocence, he could have avoided his hunger strike as well as unwanted stay at Nawaloka. I am happy arrest ended by terrorism denial but wish it better be true for Salley’s own good.

/
Mammalay Marikkar / May 10, 2013
Hello Saradiel,Im sorry you have forgotten our history. Wasnt our battle really against capitalism and the social inequality it brought upon society. The Suddhas became our foe only as a natural extension of our common mission. Were you not then compared with Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest fame? Did we not wait in hiding and rip the mail coaches and the rich passengers at the foot of Utuwankande? Did you not then split the money and give your share to the poor folks. We were social heroes who won the hearts and minds of the people whose plight and cause we espoused. And in the process we fell foul of the laws of the land and naturally, with the Suddhas who were the guardians of the law at the time. No way did we jeorpardise the interests of our beloved people for cheap popular support. This is the fire I was talking of. The communitys well-being and rapport with its compatriots was sacred and uppermost in both our minds.Hence our historical alliance which survives even to this day in the countrys history books. Now, it needs to be protected with even more fervour in the light of radical yells from both sides. Please do something about this if you can still help. As for my kuttiya from MR, I wish he would send it along soon. The country is bereft especially with the cost of living hike and the recent electricity tariffs that unless you are a politician, you simply cannot survive. I have enough poor souls around my village who could benefit from this measly kuttiya. As for me, I am trotting along and hope I can find a suitable spot in the Dansala by the Pansala. Happy Vesak and goodwill to all communities.

/
Reza Pahlavi / May 11, 2013
Wrong. Wrong.Wrong. A hundred wrongs Anura. Not all muslims speak Tamil. And Tamil is NOT the mother tongue of srilankan muslims. Most muslims do speak the language but in various bastardised forms which make it difficult for the Suruttu Tamils from Jaffna or the Toddy Tamils from Batticaloa to understand.Even among themselves, the Tamil spoken by the Muslims varies in dialect, syntax and pronounciation. Since the turn of the last century even this trend was broken and most muslims adopted English as their mother tongue until the old Nari Banda forced Sinhala on the community in his great leap of communal & political opportunism. Today, with the academic and social integration of the communities, most Muslim households speak Sinhala. This is not to denigrate the Tamil language but to clear any misconceptions in your own mind Anura about the linguistic habits of the Muslims.

You are absolutely right. And let us not forget that a mark of a true leader is to take responsibility for the actions of his administration. These grand gestures – revoking the detention order in this case and providing relief from the huge electricity price hikes to the low end consumers – may at first glance make the President seem very benevolent and caring but he is only ‘undoing’ what his own administration had done.
Anyway, it’s good Azath Salley’s immediate ordeal is over. I say ‘immediate’ because we have been told there are some enquiries pending against him. So, who knows what may still be in store.

emerge as a “fair minded ” democratic leader and get the

The Rajapakse’s keep testing the limits of audacity and we keep letting them stretch it, over and over again.
This was not a warning to Azath Salley. He is not significant in the bigger picture. Rather, it was a warning to the Muslim community that if they were to choose agitation, there will consequences. Armed struggle had nothing to do with this exercise.
So lets agree, there is no right thing to do, when you did the wrong thing in the first place. Rajapakse knows the game. We need to be familiar with the rules of the game…so he does not keep hoodwinking us.

is this the same Dr.Rajasingham Narendran that we see on a youtube video titled “Tamil Diaspora representative lauds Government”.
His first comment on this whole saga was:
Does anyone know, what Azad Salley said in the Junior Viketan interview? Even DBSJ does not reveal this in his write up in his website, which I read this morning. He of course refers to a TV program where he had referred to the First Lady as a Beauty Queen. She apparently was one and this is well known. DBSJ also reveals that Salley was questioned on the Junior Viketan interview. All discussions on the issue of Assad Salley’s arrest, however reprehensible it is, would be speculative unless we know the details of his Junior Viketan interview.
Dr.RN
Dr.Rajasingham Narendran – May 7, 2013
7:35 am
Thinking he could blow a big trumpet saying vikatan interview was all good reason to detain salley under PTA. not a single contribution being able to read the language to tell people what that magazine was all after. Gone are the good old days, now we have internet – what goes on the internet stays there forever – so no more deception!
his final comment (before the bravo) was:
Dr, Dayan,
A translation of Azad Saaly’s interview in Junior Viketan has been published yesterday in CT. It appears the question of Muslims possibly having to take up arms is of lesser significance compared to the charges against the Rajapakse family.
What is your take?
Dr.Rajasingham Narendran

uthayan attacked: say there are a cheap paper burning and beating themselves for attention instead of blaming the perpetrators. at least malinda was honest about his racism.
tna attacked: say tna needs policy reforms.
a man says he was torchered and experts confirm with direct access to the case: say by looking at the newspaper pictures it looks very much like self inflicted shia muslim wounds scars and you thought police beat up by pvc pipes. when were you a doctor for humans?
why is it so hard to make a public statement contradicting or condemning your (past/current/potential future) pay masters in plain language straight forward? oh, it’s a rhetorical question! you may maintain il silenzio.

cynical,
You are correct.
Narendran is a secret sycophant of the Rajapakse regime.
He expects an “adviser” post if UPFA wins the NPC election.
He even maligned the war widows in the Vanni, and their daughters,by saying that they are earning money by prostitution.
He even said that they travel to colombo two weeks a month to earn money as prostitutes.
He says that there are brothels in jaffna – so far undiscovered by the police and army.

i think it would be great if someone can publish a journal of this Dr.Rajasingham Narendran’s comments on this site on a chronolgical order with links and footnotes to help readers with the context. that will do a great service to teh future of this country in educating the people on what he is.
yes, i remember about the prostituion claim of his too, didn’t occur to me while i was typing the above comment. brothels in the north run by prostitutes from war affected women but not yet discovered by a military that has one soldier per six (almost one and half family) of civilans! what a bluff and disgrace the bugger is.

Cynical,
When you string up a fairy tale, at least do it non-selectively. Read my comments following the English translation of the full Viketan interview published in CT. Further, according to what I read today, Sally wrote a letter ‘ explaining’ his position to the President, in exchange for his release. A political drama of sorts to justify the release! Sally has come out the worse in this exchange. A man who cannot think before he opens his mouth and imagine the consequences, should not pretend to be a leader. A man who cannot standby what he said, is not fit to be a man. Similarly a government that has to enact a drama to correct its own folly in arresting him under the PTA, is not in any better.
I am personally glad Sally has been released and that the President released him. I hope both learned their lessons and we also learn our lessons.
Further, how many of you rushed to write and comment without knowing the full contents of the Viketan interview? How many of you commented on the IDP camps and yet continue to make snide comments , without ever seeing them?
Dr.RN

Dr.Rajasingham Narendran,
so that was a political drama that involved so many players as RW, Vikramabahu K, MA Sumanthiran, Gotabhaya R, Mahinda R, Dayan Jayatilleke, the non-state run media and last but not the least Dr.Rajasingham Narendran? next time try not to BS us!
so you’re a man who thinks a lot in terms of you know what, deserves to be a someone who wants to serve at an advisorial capacity(one of your recent comments somewhere else!)?
yeah, you better be happy because Salley once had a honeymoon (your term) with the regimes too.
think about what did you write about vikatan after you read vikatan, before you accused of others to have written before reading?
Yeah, we know you saw the IDP camps and gave an interview that goes under title “Tamil Diaspora representative lauds Government” in youtube! And further you wrote in your comments about that mystical prostitution business that happens in a place where law is enforced (?) by one military soldier for every six civilians in addition to the civil (now under defense establishment), in a land where the very trade is illegal. Remember you said that to clear the govt of the accusation. Have you no shame or that’s a commodity that you trade in exchange for other worldly benefits?

*so you’re a man, who thinks a lot in terms of you know what, before you speak or write your comments and now articles, that deserves to be a someone who wants to serve at an advisorial capacity(one of your recent comments somewhere else!)?

the know it all guy / May 11, 2013
the recent strategy of MR is obvious:
1. state will have to bring in more and more restrictions and hardship on the people, for supposedly inevitable reasons.
2. MR intervenes at the end and solves in favor of people.
3. people elect MR over and over.
based on:
1. The cricket issues of the past.
2. The electricity tariff case of yesterday
3. azath salley case of today
it’s always been the king’s intervention!
/
Mahela / May 11, 2013
So in future we don’t need to go to Courts to settle issues, but to the King for a pardon and it will be done.
So it Looks like……OUR KING WHO ART IN THRONE……. HALLOWED BE THY NAME……..THY WILL BE DONE…….PLEASE PARDON ME……AND YOUR SINS ARE PARDONED AND A POSITION IN THE FAMILY COMPOUND “Parliament” IS GIVEN.
This is called the new era of Jokerland. Pardoning by the king.
Who is going to be the next Kangetta………

Many or few Muslim ministers could have played a role
behind the screen.Ranil,Sumanthiran,VickramabahuK and
many others who tirelessly workrd for the release
deserve their due place.Azath handled it with courage
and confidence and the country, not only the Muslim
community, has to applaud him for standing up to a
ruthless arrest.
/
DW / May 11, 2013
Sumanitheran yes…..Ranil..did not see him at all here and that Socialist Vicramabahu??? (who thinks he is living in the West and wears a t-shirt and then over that wears a long-sleeved unbutton shirt) I do not think so….:-)
/
whywhy / May 11, 2013
Dear DW
Wickramabahu was among the first to rush to the scene of
arrest and stood by Azath family guiding them along with
Sumanthiran and in my view, this was the need of the hour
and real show of solidarity and unity.Ranil spoke in
parliament in support of Azath by attacking the use of
PTA.RaviK and Tissa Attanayake also joined the group.
So let’s appreciate what all of them did and the
possibility that Fouzi and Hakeem could have spoken to
the relevant authorities behind the scene, can not be
ruled out.

WhyWhy don’t give credit to these Muslims ministers and those Muslim MP’s who are in bed with MARA and Co. Non of them did any thing for his release, it all happened because of the opposition politicians and the ordinary people’s actions. These cardboard bailawans always fear the combined oppositions and the people, and they don’t want to give space for this to happen for it would bring big damage for them.

“Azath Salley Ha Been Released”
Translation: Now the jihad will begin.
/
Fair N Square / May 11, 2013
IF so, let it begin for the Betterment of SL not just Muslims and to unseat he ruling elite.. Jihad does NOT have to be only by taking up ARMS… learn the true meaning of Jihad than be a sheep, who would toe the line of the WEST and neo-cons..
/
DODU / May 11, 2013
Jihad was started by Ashoka by killing over 18,000 followers of Ajivika sect in Pundravardhana for (a person of this sect) just drawing a picture showing BUDDAH bowing at the feet of Nirgranta Jnatipura ( identified with Mahavira, the founder of Jainism). Probably this may be the firs Jihad in the history of the world!
/
Dr.Rajasingham Narendran / May 11, 2013
His affidavit submitted along with a letter to the President ( see Ada Derana of today) only refers to the arms taking issue. This means that his accusations against the Rajapakse family yet have not been denied by Azad Sally.

Your Momma / May 12, 2013
Dr.Rajasingham Narendran,
is that a reminder to the regime or a justification for further persecution? Did you read what lankaenews has to say about Shiranthi, whose beauty appealed to you so much? Instead of being so cunning, why don’t you openly state who you work for?
/
Dr.Rajasingham Narendran / May 13, 2013
It means that the Rajapakse family needs to prove that these accusations are false! The onus is on the family.
