Be The Voice For Change – Read, Share & Sign The Petition

By Arun Kumaresan

Arun Kumaresan – Air Vice Marshal (Ret’d)

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything” ~ Bernard Shaw

I accidently bounced into this beautiful piece of writing that symbolizes a desired end point during a passionate discussion with persons claiming to be the nations change agents. Passions apart; the discussion enabled me to dig out this document and surprisingly a well choreographed piece of work- to put it in the correct perspective – by a person by the name of Nirmalan Dhas; whom I have never met or known except for some cursory exchanges at common social media platforms. It gives a broad and holistic framework, which our political masters and policy makers may refer and keep as a bench mark if they believe in creating a nation for us and generations to come.

Hence, I thought of sharing this with the learned readership to read and share and if convinced, to sign the petition in the link at the end of the text.

My Sri Lanka

(Composed by Nirmalan Dhas)

“Change Sri Lanka from an authoritarian Sinhala Buddhist Majoritarian mono ethno religious state that violently marginalizes its ethnic and religious minorities with absolute impunity and colludes with disappearances, torture, rape murder, harassment and widespread corruption into a law governed multi ethnic multi religious liberal democratic cosmopolitan state free of corruption and extra judicial actions where right is might rather that might is right.

My Sri Lanka is not a Sinhala country or a Tamil country or an English country.

It is not a Buddhist country or a Hindu country or a Muslim country or a Christian country or a country belonging or dedicated to any one single religion, or ethnicity.

My Sri Lanka is not a Sinhala Buddhist country and belongs to Sinhala Muslims, Sinhala Christians, Sinhala Hindus and Sinhala Buddhists and to Tamil Muslims, Tamil Christians, Tamil Hindus and Tamil Buddhists and to English Muslims, English Christians, English Hindus and English Buddhists as well as to all other linguistic, religious and ideological groups with their historical and cultural backgrounds who have become citizens of the Sri Lankan State, and who are therefore known as all over the world as “Sri Lankans”.

My Sri Lanka will have a constitution that ensures that no person residing on the territories of the state shall enjoy any more privileges than those enjoyed by any other and that the constitution of the state ensures, protects and defends this equality and prevents and punishes any and all infringements or threats of infringement thereof.

My Sri Lanka will ensure that no person is above the law and that waiver of liability conferred on the president or any other official shall be limited only to those actions performed in official capacity and authorized by the parliament or other relevant authority which authorizing authority shall then assume such liabilities.

My Sri Lanka will generate a culture of welcoming cosmopolitan inclusiveness and tolerance based on the rule of law and democratic process and the doctrine of human rights as set out in the universal declaration of human rights that rejects, prevents, prosecutes and removes violence in all its forms, including kidnapping and illegal detention, rape, torture, murder and disappearances and leads to the rapid generation of an island wide movement against harassment, kidnapping, rape, torture, disappearances, murder and all forms of violence that will bring peace through the establishment of civilized norms of conduct and governance that give freedom for each one and all to pursue legitimate objectives.

My Sri Lanka will oppose the ongoing culture of impunity by ensuring that all acts of corruption claimed to amount to a staggering 25% of the value of the island nations Gross Domestic Product as well as the extra judicial killings that have been allowed to occur are investigated; especially those of Raviraj, Lasantha, Prageeth, Thajudeen;  and all those responsible prosecuted and punished.

My Sri Lanka will embrace top down economic development that finance rapid bottom up growth and all round social support with  the capital market as its core economic driver, along with all concomitant economic functions appropriate to an enrepôt that will finance the establishment and servicing of resilient and sustainable social support and species survival  systems and supply chains (R7SC) and global processes of environmental repair regeneration rehabilitation and development (GPE3RD)

My Sri Lanka will bring a quick differentiation between war heroes and war criminals and the decoration and the celebration of all war heroes along with the investigation prosecution and punishment of war criminals.

My Sri Lanka will build a new constitution with a fourth “developmental” pillar of the state responsible for development and that enables the prevention, detection and punishment of corruption and the protection of the state from subversion and from being taken over by majoritarian supremacists or separatists who advocate the genocidal marginalization and ethnic cleansing of religious and ethnic and ideological minorities through acts of violence and terrorism

My Sri Lanka will enact a registration of political parties act laying out the structural form that political parties must adopt including a separation of an electoral college of legislators a propaganda wing of canvassers and cheerleaders and a board of administrative office bearers as well as a registered membership, process for the selection and appointment of office bearers and clear rules governing the canvassing of support for policies, and raising of funds for political activities.

My Sri Lanka will play its natural role as entrepôt for investments flowing into and resources, commodities, goods and services flowing out of the regions of IOR-ARC, SAARC, BIMSTEC and ANTARCTIC and the location for the worlds second Humanitarian City at Hambantota.

My Sri Lanka can be your Sri Lanka too” (End of My Sri Lanka document)

I also welcome those who saw this as a not so useful document to read and promote

An Excellent petition and what our country needs right now! If people read and truly understand it we could see how this can lead to a Sri Lanka that all citizens can feel apart of. A law governed nation that puts the interest of its citizens first preventing any criminal corrupt groups from being above the law and exploiting the people.

Majority of Sri Lankans want a country built on coexistence and tolerance.

Arun Kumarsen: YOu should not use your Air Wise MArshal title in order to gain advantage among Readers. What you are writing is in your own terms is religiously extremist articles and ethnically anti-Sinhala and anti-buddhist articles. Remember, UK is still an english speaking and British country and is anglican and Catholic. . USA is made up by migrents and yet dominated by Evangelist europeans. So do our country. WE share it with you and treat all of you as brothers and sisters. that is all. We know because of our easy going attitude you want a Protestant land in Sri lanka.

I know CR wants Journalsits for pay per article. YOu are one of those. Even then, I should give my view. YOu say War heroes and War criminals. I know the political resonence of that. In that sense, you are a Traitor.

Wasn’t Nirmalan Dhas tossed out of Sri Lanka (not by Mahinda Rajapaksa’s administration, I believe) for belonging to an NGO which was an LTTE front and is even regarded as such elsewhere? I think it was the TRO.

Typical Dayan Jayathilaka! If someone comes up with something that takes us towards a Sri Lanka that treats its citizens as equals you throw mud at them and attempt to discredit them…

If it was a Sinhalese who had written this you would call him/her a traitor just because they don’t support your Sinhala Buddhist fascist views. You only want to hold back the progress of our country but people are intelligent enough to see through hypocrites like you.

Dayan, your days of fooling the Sri Lankan people are over.

You must be off your f….ng head!!!!….If all the LTTE sympathisers thought like this ass there would have been no separatism and no terrorism and no damn war in the first place. You seem to be some kind of lunatic living on the moon or maybe you are a psychiatrist and as crazy as all of them are.

If Nirmalan Dhas was from the LTTE front, I can believe how you as an officer would have worked in the war if given an opportunity go for sorties.

The people claim one a LTTE should look at their past. Ardent sympathizers of EPRLF who butchered soldiers are acceptable to us; Those who brutally killed 800 policemen in point blank range are acceptable now. FM Sarath F who fought the war magnificently is a TRAITOR now. May be OXFORD dictionary has come under some radiation exposure and meanings of the words have got deformed & distorted

Will your Sri Lanka allow churches in every Hindu and Buddhist village, financed by Western missions? Will it turn our kovils and temples into lifeless monuments for tourists to photograph? I would like to know.

Mister Paul. Please tell me what a Buddhist Village is, and what a Hindu Village is? Is it a village with a board saying “Hindu” Village or “Buddhist Village” with a wall all around it too to prevent any non Buddhists or non Hindus coming in and settling there?. Are there any “Muslim Villages” and “Christian Villages” too. Do people have to live in villages that are dedicated to their religions only?. What about Athests? do you have “Atheist Villages” too? and what about Communists? Do you have “Communist Villages” too?…and what kind of village do you live in mister Paul?

The BIGGEST PROBLEM that nobody could SOLVE or make a CHANGE is completely centered on this word “MY”. Just imagine how this word “MY” has been used and abused by all Leaderships of Religion, Ethnic, (Race), Caste, Class to ‘”Idealize” BELONGING in EXCLUSIVITY to a defined group and lead all Human Beings in different directions for the “Supreme Benefit” of those “Theoreticians”. If on the other hand if this word “MY” was substituted with the word “OUR” and developed a theory of “TOGETHERNESS” in political, social and economic aspects of life of Human Beings, I believe, things would have been much more rosier than today. I think that is what the founding teachers such as Gauthama Buddha, Jesus Christ, Mohammed and some other great Intellectuals preached and taught to the Human Beings. We are exactly discarding those teachings and are “LED’ in the opposite direction of belonging to MY religion, race, caste, class etc. In keeping with that philosophy, this article from the beginning to the end uses “MY Sri Lanka…My Sri Lanka. I propose a different approach and say what would be the psychological impact on the entire population of the country, if we are to substitute “MY” and say “OUR SRI LANKA… OUR SRI LANKA”. I invite you to think about it.

Douglas, actually “OUR” has been more harmful so if the “MY” is understood then the “OUR” world naturally happen. “MY” makes the individual think while the “OUR” leaves room for a tribal mentality (at the sacrifice of the individuals ability to think critically) that trust a tribal leader who acts as a voice for said group of individuals without each and every individual truly thinking for themselves and understanding the issue. This tribal “OUR” can be dangerous in the hands of individuals who have sinister motives. And becomes a tool that turns “US” against “THEM”…
A lot of uneducated gullible group of individuals have been mislead in the past around the world this way. I hope we have learned from those horrific moments. We don’t want to manufacture anymore Hitters pleases.

Thank you Nirmalan Dhas for a masterpiece. And thank you Arun Kumaresen for reproducing this article. MY SRI LANKA is unlikely to be a reality during my lifetime , and if ever, for generations to come. This beautiful country has been morally destroyed and with hate and corruption being the name of the game it truly appears beyond redemption. God Save MY SRI LANKA for future generations to whom we owe a better future.

Very good proposal indeed though belated. Politicians are the bane of our country. A special chapter should be reserved and set apart to check mate them. They should not be allowed to make harems making appointments of their own, with full pension status after 5 years service, for practically doing nothing. All staff should be drawn from the existing Govt. Staff and use of govt. vehicles with Drivers should be assigned, all running charts to be maintained as per Govt. regulations. All MPP salaries should be subjected to standardisation and not be equated with those of the Judiciary. Abolish the five year pension rule presently in force bring all of them under the Govt. pension minute . It is important that the first chapter in this proposed document should be set apart for the parliament MPP. and all PC and Local members too should be brought under these regulations . If the politicians of all levels could be disciplined and forced to adhere to the laws of the country 75% of our problems will be solved ,but we have our fingers crossed whether these corrupt politicians will ever be willing to make these changes because they are the worst crooks we have seen during the past 30 years or so.

    • 3

      Henry
Politicians are also called law makers. Unless 75% of our population come forward and force them to do such changes, it is not possible to change anything in Srilanka. Other barrier is Mahanayake’s. If you look at deep, they are the real protectors of corrupted people.

Ajith, you are right, unfortunately the right thinking people do not come to the fore , because the politicians are so powerful and the social engineering mechanism of the last regime was well organised in the country, amply supported by the Buddhist clergy, Sinhala Buddhist slogan became almost the National Anthem. In this back drop there was no space for any other political vision and this is the bane of our country. In the absence of humanitarian policies where development and welfare of the citizen should be the foremost , we see how the politicians and their acolytes abuse their privileged positions under the eyes of political Leaders. It is high time the Religious Leaders of Four Great religions unite to rescue the country as we see no hope for a better future for our people.” Every prospect pleases except the ‘politician’ is vile.

N Dhas may have matured but he crazily applauded long ago to bring Shivas dance to a Christian church. Now at Cern, LHC, Shivas cosmic dance of destruction has the winding serpent on arms. It is meant to open a portal for ET to come through

This is called Trying to Lick that hand that one could not bite. After trying hard for 30 years to destroy Sri Lanka and bring it down to it’s knees and even times calling for the complete extermination of the Sinhalese race, the latest Tamil ploy is to call it “My Sri Lanka” now. LOL!

You fellas always thought that we were bloody fools. Now your latest gimmick is to call it “My Sri Lanka” and try to alter the advantage Sinhalese have in the island.

Let me tell you fellas some bad news. This is not YOUR Sri Lanka and it will never be. So go to hell or better yet to Tamil Nadu and do a monkey dance to one of your 3rd grade Kollywood movies songs and leave SL alone.

Rtd. Lt. Reginald Shamal Perera, please don’t let your PTSD see enemies even in good initiatives like this! Your comment is disgraceful. People with this kind of mentality are the ones holding back our country.

Please read and understand before making such stupid comments.
