Behind Ishalini’s Death

By Ameer Ali

Dr. Ameer Ali

The tragic death of a sixteen years young housemaid, Ishalini, occurred in a Muslim politician’s household has created endless controversies, protest rallies and conspiratorial theories among competing vested interests, and is dragging some parts of the country into a communal frenzy against Muslims. That incident is now being investigated by security authorities and therefore it is advisable to wait for the findings. If it was a calculated murder, then the full force of law should be allowed to prevail without any political interference. Period.

However, what is lost amidst all this hullabaloo is a public discussion on the underlying cause or causes that drove not only Ishalini, but nearly 103,000 girls and boys, according to one budding politician from the hills, all of whom should otherwise be attending schools at their age, but forced by circumstances to join an army of under aged employees toiling in the country’s informal sector. No parent would wish his/her child to sacrifice its happy days in earning and supporting its family. It is the economic condition at home and abject poverty prevailing there that compel thousands of families to send young boys and girls to work in risky industries. Under age domestic servants are a subset of this growing army. This is one of the darker sides of the country’s open economy. In a recent report by the World Bank on “Informality, Job Quality and Welfare in Sri Lanka”, it was pointed out that “informal workers have more precarious employment arrangements and inferior working conditions. Their low earning levels elevate the risk of poverty”. Why is the public or the media and politicians not talking about this shameful feature in society?

Of the three major communities in the country, it is the employees in tea and rubber plantations, a subset of the Tamil community, who suffer most from poverty, and it is that community that has become the largest supplier of house maids to the domestic market. How did this come about?

One of the outcomes of JR’s open economy, which has now become a lifesaver to today’s pandemic hit, debt pressed and an almost bankrupt economy, is the export of human resources. It is a cruel choice between exporting goods or people. Economics of neo-liberalism in the 1980s welcomed this choice as solution to chronic unemployment in many developing countries. Neoliberal economists theorized this phenomenon as a market induced solution for wealth distribution between labour surplus and capital surplus economies. The oil rich Arab Middle East became the chief laboratory to test their thesis. Countless development projects designed chiefly by Western economists, engineers and architects to modernize the medieval desert kingdoms and sheikdoms created a voracious appetite for skilled and unskilled labour, which opened the flood gates for the underpaid and unemployed men and women in developing nations to flock towards the new Eldorado.  Sri Lanka too joined the hordes.

In this migration were women, young and old, who went mostly as housemaids to be employed in Arab homes. JR, who was critical in the 1960s and 1970s of Sinhalese women working as housemaids in Muslim homes in Sri Lanka now welcomed them to migrate to Muslim Middle East and remit their earnings in precious dollars. Among those intellectuals who criticized this Sinhalese-Arab nexus was the foremost playwright, Ediriweera Sarachchandra, who in his Dharmista Samajaya (Colombo: Elko Industries, 1982), addressed and warned of the social evils that would accompany this phenomenon. His views were also voiced by some prominent Buddhist monks. However, given the economic conditions prevailing at home that migration was unstoppable. What was new in that wave was the inclusion of many young Muslim girls and women. Neither the Muslim politicians of that time nor Muslim religious leaders raised any concern but remained silent and endorsed JR’s initiatives.

The least represented cohort in the housemaid exodus at that time were Tamil women and girls from the plantation sector. This seems to be true even today. Why? The supply of maids to Middle East is an organized industry riddled with corruption and studded with layers of hurdles to cross before the job seeker reaches her destination. To start with, it needs an initial investment of thousands of rupees which many families do not have but forced to borrow from relatives or friends and money lenders, hoping to pay back with interest later. Such facilities are not easily available to women working in the estate sector. Poverty seems to be their destiny. Besides, there is also a linguistic inability for these women to speak at least a modicum of English or Arabic to work in an Arab family. As a result, the estate women, unable to make good of the Middle East opportunity were trapped in the estates. In the meantime, a shortage of domestic servants increased the cost of employing them and wealthy home owners began to look for cheaper sources of supply. The estate sector driven by poverty turned out to be the most dominant source of that supply.

Ishalini’s death has provoked agitation among politicians to regulate this market to get rid of under-age employment. Even if legislation to that effect were to be passed its strict implementation in the prevailing environment of administrative laxity and corruption is questionable. Besides, will that legislation solve the problem of poverty in the estate sector? How could a government that is unable to award even an increase of 1000 rupees to those workers hope to alleviate the chronic poverty prevailing in that community? Unless the estate workers receive a decent wage for their labour their children would continue to seek employment in the informal sector.

To the politicians sitting on both sides of the Legislature what matters is the vote bank in the estates. The country saw in 1919 how the Rajapaksa clan used the death of late Arumugam Thondaman a rallying point for election propaganda, ignoring the threat of Corona infection. It seems Hishalini’s death is also becoming a political football between the government and opposition. For over two centuries her community had been selling its labour to keep the Sri Lankan economy growing. In spite all efforts at industrialization and export diversification, tea is still the largest income earner and contributor to GDP. It is the blood and sweat of estate workers that nourish this industry. Unless the standard of living improves for those worker families there will be more Ishalinis to mourn for. Politicians should look at the bigger picture behind this girl’s tragedy.

Why would the government politicians and the opposition ones with huge salaries and perks bother about the poor except for their votes to line their pockets.

One way poor communities can help themselves is by limiting their family size with not more than two children.

God helps those who help themselves, they say. It is a vicious circle they have to break out of to escape poverty. Well to do only pay lip service to the poor.

I wonder why the media that is going to town about Ishalini ( they should) is s strangely silent about that other 15 year old who was trafficked to more than 30 people including a Buddhist monk, a senior Navy officer and a politician? Are crimes forgiven when Sinhala Buddhists commit them?

That’s exactly what the Gotler government is doing. It is using Ishalini’s case to distract the people from the horrible ordeal of the 15 year old Sinhalese girl. On the advice of the military and Buddhist hierarchy, the government and its whore media are using the terrible tragedy of Ishalini to create an anti-Muslim frenzy in the country and cover-up the prominent men, including a Buddhist monk, who raped the Sinhalese girl.

We had a Tamil political lord (thank god for taking him) who raped hundreds of teenage girls. It is said that Every time he passed a good looking teenage girl, he would order his body guards or policemen to bring her over. and RAPE it was. No one dared to speak out or protest because of the power he weirded as the top politician of the district

Muslims are responsible for Ishalini’s death to be politicized. From the time this incident occurred, there has been attempts by Muslims to cover this up. First the Muslim policeman who attempted to bribe the family to prevent it being taken up further. If this was pure and simple suicide why should Badurdeen’s father in law ask the police officer to do so. Next is the Muslim JMO who had done a callous post mortem examination in order to portray it as suicide. I was the first person who raised concern about it and demanded second post mortem by a panel of three persons of integrity. Now this has been done justifying my view. Next is what are the names of doctors who treated her, especially the one who took down admission notes. If the admitting doctor was Muslim, then it elicits strong suspicion. It was first said that the maid has said that she set fire to herself, but the doctor says that it was told by another one and not the patient. Badurdeen’s father in law was at the hospital during admission and was it he who told it. (CONTD)

(CONTD) Despite hospital police post informing Borella police about the incident, no action was taken by Borella police to record statement from the patient and to seal section of the house where incident took place to prevent tampering of evidence. Inquiry must be made as to whether Borella Police officials received any inducement to suppress this case. Even after death, Borella police went to Diyagama and Puwakpitiya to inquire about the past of the deceased in order to castigate her, and not taken action to investigate the reason for this incident to occur and sweep it down as suicide. Due to this deliberate negligence of Borella police evidence has been tampered with erasing off CCTV camera recordings and mysterious appearance of writing on wall and dress materials. It is when investigations were not satisfactory and the family being harassed, that the mother sought assistance from Tamil politicians. (CONTD)

(CONTD) In the case of George Floyd, those who fought for justice for his death are not racists but those who tried to cover up. Similarly in this case, those who are demanding justice for her death are not racists, but those Muslim politicians, lawyers and web sites who are trying to cover up by slandering the character of the deceased and portraying Badiudden’s family as innocent are the racists. It is clear form evidence of other former maids that serial sex abuse had been going on in this household. It is natural for most women not coming out with sex abuse due to fear and shame. Even a prostitute has the right to complain of sex abuse if it was done against her will. Therefore Muslim propaganda of slinging mud on the girl, is purely to distract the case. In the case of the deceased, sex abuse has been done by either father in law or brother in law of Badurdeen or probably both. Behaviour of Badurdeen in feigning illness and when admitted to hospital, throwing away prescribed medication shows that he is a liar. (CONTD)

(CONTD) People do not commit suicide without reason such as shame, debt, severe depression, broken love affair etc. In this case none of these has happened. She had spoken to her mother few days prior and was waiting for her mother to fetch her. So why should she take her life three days before date of her mother’s visit. All previous house maids have complained about physical torture and two about sexual abuse. Deceased in her telephone conversation had also complained of physical abuse, and did not in any way behaved like one harbouring suicidal thoughts. So something must have happened in ensuing days. I have strong feeling that she must have threatened to expose clandestine activity in the house, either sexual abuse on herself or between two other occupants of the house. Investigation should be done about sexual contact between Badurdeen’s wife and male servant who appears to be enjoying privileges not given to maids. Did she threaten to expose this and to silence her, Badurden’s wife, father in law, mother in law and servant connived to kill her. (CONTD)

(CONTD) This maid had not been allowed to go out of the house. On three occasions when mother visited to see her daughter, was told that the daughter had gone to Puttalam and turned away. How can maid kept locked inside the house get hold of kerosine and lighter. They said that kerosine was brought to kill insects, but previous maids have told kerosine was never used in the house. Badurdeen’s mother in law had told that kerosine was brought by driver, which the driver has denied. Who gave her the lighter, when she was never a smoker. They said she came out running with burns and they doused with rugs and dipped legs in fish pond. If so how did she get 70% burns. People committing suicide douse their body and not legs. This leads to suspect that her legs were set on fire by someone. Though times of arrival of ambulance and dispatch to hospital is correct, time of incident may not be the stated time Strangely CCTVs in this section of house did not function on that day. (CONTD)

                  2

(CONTD) There appears to be interpolation of evidence to support suicide. How did the writing on the wall appear, when in the photographs of the room in social media did not have it. How has the pieces of clothes appear, in order to corroborate the falsehood of Badurdeen’s mother in law that when she tried to ignite the thread, she caught fire. Police must take into custody Badurdeen’s mother in law, the male servant and the Muslim police officer, who may be knowing what really happened. Bank account of Muslim JMO must be examined as there are complaints of him giving false report on a Muslim drug peddler. The criminals are faltering in their attempt to distort the truth. Tamil politicians should continue their agitation to bring out the truth. They need not worry as they have ample support from fair minded Sinhalese. If proper forensic examination is done, culprits will be caught. I hope that the panel of JMOs and officials of government analyst department do their job without fear or favour to deliver justice to the dead girl.

Statements taken from those who took Ishalini to hospital are important as the Police investigators who inspected the house now say that there was no sign of Ishalini setting fire on herself (or someone else setting fire on her).
If Ishalini was taken to hospital by an ambulance, what did the driver and paramedics say about her? Were they also Muslims?
The 16-year old Ishalini was set on fire alive by the same Muslims who vehemently opposed cremation of Covid-19 infected dead bodies!!!
Gender-based violence, assault, molestation, rape and murder have become TOO COMMON in Sri Lanka.
We must raise our voice in both Isahalini’s and 15-year old Sinhalese girl’s cases, as there is all the possibility of rapists and murderers finding another victim and their actions being repeated and addictive.

According to what police told courts today, only one doctor has stated that the deceased had set fire on herself, while all others have queried as to what happened. They also said that this doctor named Randika is out of the country and they could not record his statement. Police must investigate whether he had left the country to escape being questioned. Court was told that Badurdeen has told police that he does not know what happened. Police must investigate whether the Muslim JMO who did the first post mortem did so according to his turn in the roster or whether Chief JMO has been requested to allow him to do it.
Fact that none of the doctors of Colombo JMO office had been included in the panel which performed the second post mortem, is a sad indictment on the integrity of these officials.

Seems you are the most concerned of all the commentators here with 6 long Comments.

While investigations are still going on, you seem to know Everything about what happened and also seem to know Everything that is happening on the investigation front though there is very little known about the investigation as they are still ongoing. It is also not proper to give vent to one’s opinion on how a crime has been committed and the nature of the crime (whether suicide or murder) when the investigation is ongoing. Well, if you are an eye witness, to the crime or any other relevant happenings relevant to the crime, then, as a responsible citizen, it is for you to contact the relevant authorities and provide whatever information you have instead of writing to the Media. Well, since you are a Medical Practitioner, I won’t blame you if you are not aware of this fact about Investigations. I hope you will Remember this.

Muhandiram, the Islamic bigot, I intervened on behalf of truth and justice. When Muslim politicians, lawyers and media were distorting the picture, tarnishing the character of the dead girl who had no chance of defending the allegations, and praising Badurdeen’s family as benevolent when they are criminals, that I decided to step in. Why did you not tell those racists not to vent their opinion about what happened without informing the police and not expressing it on Muslim control media. This shows your Islamic bias of rushing in to protect Muslim criminals. I have the right to give my expert opinion especially when there was an attempt to cover up the case by police. It is my suggestion to take samples of body tissues for examination that has been carried out. All what I have said is what has been told by police spokesman to the press and prosecutor to the court. All those whom I have suggested to be arrested will be done in due course. I will continue to lead the investigators on the path to get at the truth and any amount of pressure will not stop me.

The media blitz on behalf of Hishalini is not so much as to the genuine desire for her or the Plantation Tamils.
It is a propaganda to destroy Rishard Badiuddin. In the same way Dr.Shafi the Kurunegala doctor too was a victim of a vicious campaign.
We still do not know the factual story behind Hishalinis death but what is of paramount importance is to address the socio-economic conditions of the Plantation labour.
After all their contribution to the GDP THROUGH TEA – for over 200 yrs has stood this Nation in good stead.

“I intervened on behalf of truth and justice.”

Really? Let me quote from your post.

1.” When Muslim politicians, lawyers and media were distorting the picture, …….”

Fact is, Muslim politicians were largely silent, including Badiudin’s Party Members. Media was largely on a witch hunt against Badiudin. In that sense, you are spot on about the Media “distorting the picture”.

      2. ” ……..Muslim control media………”

Is there any such thing as “Muslim control Media ” in this country? There may be one or two in the Tamil Medium but who reads them except a few Muslims? Can you name any in English or Sinhalese which is in “Muslim control”? I am sure you will understand that ONLY those in the English and Sinhala Media have vast coverage and reach out to the majority of the Population and thus create and influence Public Opinion,

      3. “All those whom I have suggested to be arrested will be done in due course. I will continue to lead the investigators on the path to get at the truth “

You are such a powerful person, yeah? Good. Why don’t you also take over the investigations into the Easter Terror attack and get at the Truth? Certainly, that is a Far More Heinous Crime than Ishalini’s?

The whole thing blew up when Risard family tried to bribe the Isha’s family with mere Rs. 50, 000.

Now, it is only a matter of technicalities before throwing Risaard and / or part of the family into tough, long prison.

Muhandiram, you are deliberately distorting the truth. Three politicians from Badurdeen’s party Amir Ali, member of Kalmunai MC and former member of western provincial council had been vociferous in praising Badurdeen and condemning the dead girl, with one of them saying that she had been having sex from the age of 12. When this matter was brought up in parliament for fresh investigation, Mujibur Rahman tried to distract it saying, then you have to first investigate death of a male in Wimalawansa’s residence. Just because one has been suppressed does mean that all such cases should be suppressed. Silence of Muslims proves that Muslims will never speak against Muslim criminal when offence has been committed on non Muslim. There are several youtube postings by Muslims such as Ceylon voice, CGC talk, Shortnews TV, and few others. One Muslim lawyer said that he has no confidence on the investigations being done. If he can voice such opinion why cannot others do the same. Muslim media targets Muslim audience to rouse them up with false propaganda. (CONTD)

(CONTD) I can only recommend the arrest of criminals, but have no power to arrest them. Regarding Easter bombing, I have mentioned in Colombo Telegraph several times, the names of those involved. Recently Cardinal Ranjith read out in the church names of some Muslim politicians including Badurdeen and Hisbulla, businessmen and professionals involved with the terror group, which endorses my view. Just because no action has been taken on that incident, does not mean that criminals in this case should be allowed to go free. There is no charge on Badurdeen regarding the death of this girl, but as the chief occupant where sex and physical abuse has occurred, he is responsible. Therefore there is no witch hunt on Badurdeen. Police officer who offered bribe will be taken in, as there is suspicion that he is responsible for tampering with evidence. Police must investigate whether there was clandestine sexual relationship between Badurdeen’s wife and male servant who seems to have been given privileges in the house, and whether the girl was killed because she threatened to expose it.

The Muslim Politicians are who working behind Rishard, saying that this is political revenge, took no share in protecting Ranjan, did they? Who is Rishard and who is Dr. Shaffi? Comparing Dr. Shaffie with Rishard is nothing but, only the way of Lankans, debating “America doing War Crime in the Middle East”. Rishard, on behalf of King, who at that time was the defense secretary, destroyed Indian 50,000 housing project for Mullaitivu war victims. Many of Rishard built homes for Muslim are invaded by jungle because Muslims don’t consider those places are good for their way of, that is mainly trading in populated area. Rishard is a person comparable to Hezbollah who released a video how he nationalized Tamils’ market and Hindu Temples and built Mosques and stores for Muslims, the classic examples of arrogance of power. Rishard watched from the Rapist Navy’s heli the destruction of a Tamil court. It is not Tamils’ responsibility to fix humanistic or auspicious times to take Rishard to court for his revenge against Tamils. They need to take action on criminals, and they need not to wait for him to become an EP or PM so that he too can take diplomatic and state head defenses. He used the war time to destroy Tamils. In effect, he is a war criminal too. He said that in the UNHRC.

  • 12
    4

Rishard did not release a statement when the murder story started to spread. They used a policeman to bribe the family and silence them. After two weeks of this has been spread all over the country by the media, Rishard is explaining his version at the parliament using the parliamentary procedure. After the case has gone to court, now Rishard should shut up. The speaker should have limited Rishard defenses in the parliament. He was explaining as philanthropic donation, the money that is claimed by victims as bribe money. Can Rishard release a statement at parliament that what other 11 servant girls worked at his family got by these donation programs? The truth is even if he had done like that, he would not tell that out in public, because that would hurt his votes, saying that he is giving out Tamils only. That is the way he has trained his community to react. They were Muslim traders helped all communities in natural disasters. But Rishard’s name never appeared in the media in those incidents. How Rishard who had to be admitted at hospital to open heart surgery when the murder took place, but he became stronger man and came to parliament to defend his using the parliamentary privileges? Why didn’t Rishard deny in the parliament the “writing on the wall”?

  • 11
    3

There is campaign by self-proclaimed Muslim Activists-Leaders that Muslims should release all women employed by them, irrelevant of their ages. Remember, the campaigners are not asking to treat the Tamils fairly, but just fire immediately. Did they do the same when Rozina was murdered in Saudi? No. Hezbollah and Hakeem played games on that also. Rishard claims that his wife treated Shalini as her sister. But why couldn’t they hire a Rozina, who is going to the Middle East to have their head chopped off. Rozina are not Rishard family’s sisters? Is there no Sinhala Sister for Rishard? This is showing Rishard’s sinister mentality and using parliament to cover this up with the word of sister. There is a long gap between Rishard’s sister and the way it was reported in the media as Shalini was treated. Rishard has to do a lot of explaining to bridge that gap. Parliament is the place where Royals have a full membership open for him waiting for him to join. Let Rishard select an appropriate place for Tamils and explain it there.

The poor teenage housemaids in the middle east and poverty stricken plantation Tamil servant girls have a lot in common- they face sexual, physical and mental torture all alone, for no reason at all or for simply not obeying their employers.

Poverty vs affluence –poor creatures!.Their tears may not evoke any sympathy.

The girls will always wish to join their parents and their siblings, even if they are treated well.

    Home is always sweet home.

    Parents are their natural guardians.

The governments should intervene, not to remove the children from their parents and their siblings, but to educate them in their own natural surroundings and keep their dignity and self-respect intact.

    Amir Ali,
Fully agree that Ishalini’s death must be investigated to the full, to unearth what happened and the sordid circumstances.
What cannot be understood is the discrimination in the approach based on subjective manner, based on Race, Religion and caste in dealing with it, including the media and investigating authority.
Justice must be done and appear to be done. It is markedly pronounced and I refer to OC’s comment on this matter, relating to the 2 cases – which are very similar, if not identical, except to the perpetrators in the 15 year old’s case – which is rape and/or prostitution promotion, more severe impact on society.
The only parallel is the case of Tangalle Christmas party rape of Victoria and murder of her partner, by a government politician, hidden or subverted until commonwealth summit in SL and British PM Cameron’s intervention. This case is a replica, simply because of the perpetrators!
They tried their best to “Hide a full raw pumpkin in a plate of rice” and failed in Tangalle relative, marring the heritage of 2600 years of Buddhism.
God help Sri Lanka. Equality, justice and human respect failed.
The fourth estate is silent on essential issues. Whither Democracy!

There is no better person than Ameer Ali to speak for the Muslims.
If I am a Muslim, I’ll wholeheartedly accept what he says. But, I am not.
    He says:
    – That incident is now being investigated by security authorities and therefore it is advisable to wait for the findings.
    .
    My question is simple.
Does Ameer Ali trust Sri Lankan Security folks to make an impartial inquiry, knowing well that it is a big fish that they’d roast!

Pathima Jadam, he was not chased out of Jaffna but from the Willpattu wildlife sanctuary . He left there with a little cloth bag and returned making millions. However no one knows when how and where. Most probably running other secret house of horrors, who knows. Wanted to settle fake displaced Muslims, who had never set foot in the north of the country and Porukistanis inside the sanctuary, to look after the wild life there (sic) , so that they will multiply threefold or fourfold within a decade and vote for him and turn north Sri Lanka from a Thamizh Hindu land into an fake Arab Thulluka Islamic paradise.

      • 7
        3

He and his family love Thamizh so much, that his Hijab/Nikab or Burkha or whatever Arabic dress wearing wife and other male relatives, were very concerned only about the plight of poor estate Thamizh young females only but not about poor Thullukachchis or Chingkalla females, as they can easily discipline them and make them obey the rule of law and learn the finer points of life, like how to wash the toilet bowl properly, wash cutlery and crockery and also to learn the facts of life , from their kind and stern masters. A kind of house of horror finishing school. Touching or disciplining poor Thulukachchis will be haram and if they lay their hands or discipline poor Chingkallams, imagine the political fall out for the Thullkans and the repercussions. If these poor unfortunate Thangachchis ( little sisters) pass all these rigorous and hard tests given to them by their mistress/sister and brothers/masters and save their lives or whatever dignity left, they then get a certificate to state that they are now fully trained and qualified to work in actual Arab households in the Gulf. As they value these special experience and certificates issued to these poor hapless estate Thamizh Thangichchis , from the house of Horror run by the Shaitans from Wilpattu GRRR.

I understand that so far there is no court decision in this case. So, how did you come with this conclusion? Whether the Bathiudeen and relatives or Rajapaksa and relatives have done any crime in the past or until now is not decided in any courts. We have no right to talk against the court decisions.

This is another classic case of humanrights violation that is happening in Sri lanka on a day to day basis.

Hope Mr Gotabhaya Rajapaksha could put protection of human rights and prevention of humanrights violations as his number one priority and take policy decisions accordingly.

Streamline the Judicial system and don’t let the police take justice into their own hands.

Sri Lanka is crying for international tuarists to return after the pandemic. It should be emphasised that if there is no Law and Order in Sri Lanka no one will want to visit Sri Lanka , paradise or not……..

Is a U turn from Capitalism to Socialism the answer?

In capitalism some one has to be exploited as far as I undestand.

The driver for development is self centred ambition.

Why do socialist and communist countries fail?

Is it because of selfish ambition?

Justice, report of second post mortem is not ready yet. While results of the scans taken would be ready, results of tissues taken will take time. Probably at the next date on 23rd August, we should know it. So far police has not hidden anything to the public. I am watching this case closely and satisfied with the progress. What action taken by the police seems to be according to the recommendations I had made in this column, which makes me think whether police and prosecutors are reading my comments. Only at the last hearing the judge cautioned police not to have briefing to the public about the findings.

When MP Bathiudeen was allocated a special speaking slot at Parliament, “Puhul Horu” were made present to assure Bathiudeen their unwavering support.
Upon inspecting Bathiudeen’s house after a month from the incident, the Police boldly says there was no sign of any fire, as envisaged by ‘people’. Are the Police trying to imply that Ishalini was not set on fire at Bathiudeen’s house?
Ha ha ha… According to previous Police reports, Ishalini was admitted to hospital with serious burn injuries and died after 15 days. Who admitted Ishalini to hospital? It should definitely be a member of Bathiudeen’s household, unless Puhul Hora arranged a Police vehicle to take Ishalini to hospital.

      1

Will there be justice to Ishalini? I don’t think so. As usual, the law favours culprits, not victims. So, should people accept it and be silent? Of course not.
We must raise our voice against the privilege and immunity enjoyed by Sri Lankan men to engage in gender-based threats, humiliation, assaults, abuse, molestation, domestic violence, exploitation, rape and murder!!!!
Sri Lanka Police bigwigs think if the above-mentioned crimes are not recurrent, the women and children should bear them. Even some judges share the same view. I remember in one case, the rapist was released on bail, considering that it was his first time. And, in another, based on his old age. And, in another, based on the fact that the rapist married the victim. And, in another, considering that the rapist had offered to compensate the victim and her mother.
In Sri Lanka, in gender-based domestic and other violence, the Police and the Judiciary always take the side of the man. Not only that, but they go as far as to JUSTIFY it as “a part of Sri Lankan culture”! In actuality, THIS IS NOT, AND SHOULD NOT BE A PART OF ANY CULTURE!!!!!!!!

By the way when did you find out the law favours culprits. In fact there is nothing wrong with Law, however it is the selective enforcement of law that makes this country a unique.

As far as dumb asses are concerned those who are kept in remand prison (without investigation or charges) for more than 12 years in some cases more than 20 years are terrorists and deserve no freedom however a army war criminal Sunil Ratnayake causing death to innocent people are heroes, and deserve pardon. I won’t be surprised if this freed child killer is promoted to Brigadier in order to compensate his lost years in prison and loss of income.

There are a lot of double standards going on in your comment.
          1. You lament about terrorists being in prison for more than 12 years, and, in some cases more than 20 years.
Did you know that Sergeant Sunil Ratnayake, who dedicated his entire young life to save the country from bloodthirsty terrorists, was in jail for 18 years prior to his release in 2020?
          2. Why don’t you see pardoning LTTE terrorists/war criminals as an undermining of rule of law?
          3. Give me a valid reason for your insensitivity towards Prabhakaran recruiting child soldiers and forcing them to fight/die for him? How many children may have been used as a human shield and let to die?
For your information, my heroes are always heroes who paid a heavy price to save Tamil children, women and elders from your hero, the ferocious fascist terrorist leader, Prabhakaran and his bloodthirsty cadre.

Champa, police did not say that there was no sign of any fire. They said according to statement given by the household Ishalini came out shouting from the room with fire on her body, and they doused the flame with rug and dipped her legs in fish pond, and since she has to come out of her room into the kitchen and then to living room and then to the pond, they have not found any burn marks to the objects in the house on her way from her room to the pond, which arouses suspicion about the statement given. This proves that Ishalini was set on fire inside the room and allowed to burn inside it. Who with any humanity will call the police first and not ambulance when another human being is lying with burns.

  • 2

The public is extremely suspicious about the investigations of the death. It seems an ambulance was called after cleaning up the scene of crime, destroying the evidence and practising the scripted lies (al takkiya).

Rishard was(is) the No. 1 opponent of MMDA reformation. His explanation is that women showing less is more safe. This killing of this young estate Tamil girl should be thoroughly examined . The reason is in my view, she was employed at the home of a rabidly anti Tamil Muslim politician, who not only ed immensely harmed to the island’s Tamils in the north and east by his actions after the war but even went around internationally canvassing against granting just rights to the island’s Tamils. It is not only her but now we are aware that many other young Tamil women and girls from poor estate Tamil homes have been illtreated and even sexually harassed at this home. There is an incident of another so called suicide of a young Tamil woman. whilst she was working at this house. Strange why is this Tamil hating politician and his household, employing only poor impoverished estate Tamil young women/girls as household helps and not other poor impoverished people? Adults, Muslims or Sinhalese ? Do they think that they are easy targets, to illtreat and to vent their revenge and hatred against the Tamils? It is not one but now around eleven Tamil women have now complained that they faced brutality, sexual harassment and even death in the case of some. This is very disturbing and why are the Tamil politicians both from the TNA and the hill country being quiet, whilst many Muslims are trying to cover this up ? We need answers.

Tamils are the worst abusers of children. They recruited about 3000 children as child soldiers. They were forced to do dangerous things like making bombs. Why don’t you demand that those responsible for committing a war crime by recruiting children for warfare brought to justice?

    old codger
You ask ” Are crimes forgiven when Sinhala Buddhists commit them?”
    .
The reason that the Police are dragging their feet in Mt. Lavinia child-sex trafficking case is that the high profile rapists are protected by the Rajapaksas. And, not all rapists who were arrested/released are Sinhala Buddhists.

It is a well know fact that most girls in the estate sector are abused even before they attain puberty. There is incest to abuse at every level of the estate management. The upcountry Tamil politician’s and street protesters who now scream blue murder are all guilty of not stopping this abuse. The parents of Ishahini should be the first to be arrested for selling off their little girl at 12

    • 3
      2

Really from where did you get this fact? We all know that you work very hard to cover up Islamic extremism . Have also read your articles here and know your views. We all know that it is not girls in the estate sector but young Thullukachchis who get abused even before they attain puberty and there is incest and abuse at every level. Then cover all their sins now under an Arab Burkha, Nikkab and Hijab. If the poverty stricken parents of Ishalini should be arrested to being forced to send their daughter to the house of horror that was run by an anti Thamizh Thullukan and Thullukachci, These then the entire adults living in that Thamizh hating Thulluka household should be arrested for purchasing not only Ishalini but other young and vulnerable poor estate Thamizh girls and torturing them and sexually harrasing them

What! Oh my god unbelievable. What sort of rubbish comment is this? Arrest the poor poverty stricken parents who were forced by the money lender and the middle man to send this girl to the is horrible house to work, to be tortured, sexually abused and ultimately get killed. However, allow the filthy rich perpetrators of this crime, who are supposed to be educated influential and should know better to go scot free, as they are fellow Muslims and the victim is a estate Tamil Christian girl. Would this Hilmy have stated/posted this same rubbish if the victim was a Muslim. What a horrible thing to state that young girls from the estate sector get sexually abused at a young age by their close relatives and the estate management. How does he know this? What a nasty third rate low life to even state this about a poor dead defenseless Tamil girl. Would he have stated the same thing about a Muslim girl or if one of us slandered them the same way. Slandering a poor girl who had suffered so much in her short life, just to get a fellow anti Tamil Muslim like him out of trouble, to defend and cover up any heinous crimes that Muslims commit on non Muslims but jump and up and down when others retaliate or they are the victims .

      • 4

Typical Muslim mentality, Defend a fellow Muslim to the hilt and cover up their crimes and run and slander the victims, especially if they are Tamils. Would not have said the same thing if the victim was a Muslim or young Sinhalese female. Think Tamils are easy victims and they can get away with doing anything to them and say anything about them. Typical low caste converted mentality. Worship the Arabs and slander and run down their own Tamil ethnicity. All in the name of Islam and a fake Arab origin.

These Islamic trolls who are now posting all sorts of rubbish about Ishalini, estate Tamil young girls and defending the anti Tamil Rishard, were also canvassing many western embassies in Colombo, seeking their support to settle fake displaced Muslims, not only along the Wilpattu corridor but in many other key strategic areas in the north, facing India’s southern shore line, with the intention of creating huge Muslim enclaves in the north that were never there and ultimately join it with the Tamil east to claim an Islamic homeland, that had never existed in the island’s history. They were deliberately inflating the figure of displaced northern Muslims to 200000 to 300000 , when it was only around 62000 . They were also posting articles at various sites, stating Muslims in the east who only arrived as refugees a few centuries ago, had far less land than the Tamils and the Tamilized Vedda who are the real indigenous population in the east and have been living there for thousands of years and steps should be taken to remedy this situation, especially in the Amparai district. Most probably the ethnic cleansing activities of the Muslim Home guards in the 80s and 90s was part of this land claiming activities. Now posting rubbish in support of an Islamic racist whose household as a notorious history of tormenting, torturing and even killing young estate Tamil female household help. Shows their mindset.
