Betrayed!

By S. Ratnajeevan H. Hoole

I just read The Indian Express report by P.K. Balakrishnan dated 03rd July 2015, that President Maithri Sirisena has agreed to give SLFP/UPFA nomination to former President Mahintha Rajapaksa. I sensed things would turn out this way from Sirisena’s repeatedly telling us that he would not give Rajapaksa his party’s nomination, while keeping the subject open all the time until now. Uva Chief Minister Harin Fernando confirmed secret meetings between the President and Rajapaksa. Suspicions deepened when there were reports that Rajapaksa had been offered freedom from prosecution by the President if he agreed not to contest at the upcoming elections. Is that offer not the biggest betrayal of all those who voted for President Sirisena? Is this nomination by Sirisena not his asking us to vote for Rajapaksa? Is such asking not an endorsement of the murder and corruption under Rajapaksa? I am devastated.

Spokesman Rajitha Senaratne (who recently said this nomination would never happen) is reported by The Indian Express as giving the weak excuse that “The President has now agreed to allow Rajapaksa to contest the election as an ordinary candidate of the UPFA and not as its group leader or its Prime Ministerial candidate.” Enough of this nonsense. We have been lied to and continue to be lied to. At least grant us the intelligence to see through this, instead of adding insult to injury by taking us to be fools. If Rajapaksa wins from a safe seat with an SLFP majority in parliament, and his MPs elect him their leader, what will happen? Can Rajapaksa’s becoming Prime Minister be prevented in that confluence of horrible happenings? God forbid! We must guard against that in every way we can.

SRI LANKA-ELECTION-OPPOSITIONThis nomination for Rajapaksa is a betrayal of those of us who worked for his ouster. Tamils and Muslims who voted for President Sirisena will feel most strongly this betrayal. They will now say with some justification, “See, never trust the Sinhalese.” And that will put back all efforts at national reconciliation. This will be the biggest negative fallout from this betrayal – that minorities already estranged from the Sri Lankan state will lose all hope. Tamil moderates like Mr. R. Sampanthan and Mr. M. A. Sumanthiran who endorsed Maithri Sirisena’s election as President will have this betrayal used by Tamil extremists to question their leadership. We all lose, Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims, by this effective endorsement of corruption, murder and mayhem.

The only thing we can hope for is a UNP victory at the upcoming elections and then further hope that he will do something to address the insecurity that all Sri Lankan minorities feel and restore Tamil and Muslim confidence in the Sinhalese and redeem the state.

For myself, in my enthusiasm for the 8 January 2015 verdict, I have told my office that I will leave for Sri Lanka once my two senior-most students defend their doctoral theses this Summer; for the others I have made suitable arrangements. It is too late for me to back off now. So go I will, back to Sri Lanka, come what may.

God save me. And God save all Sri Lankans.

    Sampanthan….tamil moderate ..
    :’)……that is hilarious …..

Look here, UPFA is the party mahinda was nominated as presidential candidate ..UPFA is the party that voted against maithree ……so UPFA is THE opposition ….it is when UNP, my3 try to rule UPFA, that is undermining the democratic rights of 58lakhs who voted for mahinda …

Arent you asking my3 not to allow the democratic rights of 58 lakhs of people?

    Is that democracy ?

Are you saying sinhala people should not have right to select a leader ?

      Dear Jay,

Who, to your mind, is a “Tamil Moderate”? For expediency, it may be, that you will say, Douglas D. and today’s Karuna.

Do you not see, the harm that will be done, unless Rajapaksa retires gracefully. True, it is our country. We can defy the world for some time, and we must certainly maintain our independence and identity. However, we must not do my unborn generations do misery, poverty, and International opprobium.

Rajapaksa very effectively countered terrorism. However, he should be allowed to enjoy retirement. It is different people who have to lead us in peace time.

It has been clear that MR will try a come back. If he is not nominated by an existing party he will start his own.

I never understood the claims after the elections that MR had escaped abroad. He received almost half of the votes and most of the votes of his community.

Let’s see Who this President Maitripala Sirisena is based on what has transpired over the past 6 months.

      1. A Spineless person

      2. A Wimp

      3. A Coward

      4. A Traitor to 6.25 million voters.

He called it a “compromise”. A ‘compromise” with the Devil, Satan, MaRa. Iblis, Shaitan. Lucifer and MaRa.

So, Maitripala Sirisena has helped form a new Word.

      “compromise”, now means Wimpromise.

Maitripala Siridena, the spineless, wimp, coward and traitor wimpromised with the Liar, Crook, Robber and criminal Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Who would in their right mind would want MR the murderer, a thug and a robber back. The 58 lakhs who voted in the name of democracy must be the crazies who do not know what is good for this country and they do not have the rights to take it down with the rest of us.

    Professor,

We too have the same of feeling betrayal by MS for allowing MR to contest in UPFA ticket. MS is digging his own grave by letting MR to sneak into UPFA and later to capture the ultimate power. MR and his cronies are hell bent to get MR appointed as Prime Minister then God forbid if MS is assassinated by these crooks MR will become the President again.

Latest reports reaching today says that MS has not yet put his ascent on MR’s candidacy and he is having discussion with CBK. If sanity prevails MS will withdraw the approval that was obviously cooked up by Susil Premajayantha and his gang.

Acumen – Regarding your second para, there has to be something more to it as MS is not himself these couple of days. It looks like his arm is twisted after the return of Premjayanth Secretary UPFA from London and President is now, probably blamed for the break up of the SLFP/UPFA combi.as he unable to group them together under one roof and UNP is sure to creep in as a winner in such a situation. There is no need to discuss with CBK as he is not a baby, not to understand what he is in for. The question before him is, how is he going to answer 6.4 million voters, who voted him to power for a particular purpose of eradicating Corruption, Nepotism and political thuggery and how is he going to face the international community, who is trying to treat him as a statesman because of his stand on reconciliation and good governance.

This is something mysterious if the media reports are true. One could
judge him and his character only after he gives an official statement to the troubled public.

        Amarasiri,

Please do not jump into conclusion so soon and call MS by various names. MS has not yet categorically endorsed MR candidacy. He has just said today that
I did not enter politics randomly or abruptly – my experiences in politics spans close to 49 years. . . I will not let any party decision tarnish or harm the transformations that occurred in this country after January 8 – I will protect it,” he has said.

The whole drama unfolding now is the handiwork of Susil Premajayantha.

Therefore, we are nervously waiting for MS official statement in this matter as requested by Ven Sobita Thero.

This is good news, if true, and let’s hope that his organs are functioning normally and he will not sell out 6,200,000 voters. Through the grape wine heard many stories… one of the stories

Maithripala expected to make another u-turn

President Maithripala Sirisena is expected to make another U-turn with regards to the decision on giving former President Mahinda Rajapaksa nominations to contest the Parliament elections.

An official in the President’s office, who was to resign over Sirisena’s decision to give Rajapaksa nominations, had later held back his resignation after receiving an assurance that Sirisena may make another u-turn.

Sirisena had already this week announced he will not be giving nominations to Rajapaksa but later yesterday the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) said the President had agreed to give the former President nominations.

However now, sources say the President is expected to reverse that decision following pressure from several Sri Lanka Freedom Party members and those who helped him win the January 8 Presidential election.

Several United National Party members also said they still had faith in President Sirisena and do not expect Rajapaksa to be formally given nominations for the August 17 election.

      From the grape wine….

“President Maithripala as the leader of the UPFA and as leader of the SLFP which is the largest constituent party of the SLFP has not signed the letter that was supposedly sent to Mahinda Rajapakse that the UPFA has consented to Mahinda contesting as a candidate of the UPFA.”

“When it is announced , Mahinda has secured nomination under the UPFA , the aimless ‘slaves’ of his would have been jubilant , but such ecstatic delight was not visible because such a thing has not happened because of the signature issue. ‘Maithri will never give nominations to us .He is only sending us on a wild goose chase ’ , said Gotabaya who saw the letter.”

Are MaRa MaRa and his cronies on a wild goose chase?????????

        More from the grape wine….

Not only tyrannical Mahinda but even his corrupt minions in the queue will not get nominations : President Maithri re -confirms!

President Maithripala re affirmed and re confirmed that Medamulana Percy Mahendra Rajapakse who only deserves an ignominious place in the Guinness book of records as the worst liar and tyrannical ruler in the world responsible to disgrace and degrade the country on an unprecedented level will not be granted nominations . Even those minions who are propping and prodding him will not get nominations , said President Maithripala who was steered to victory on the 8 th of January by the people who risked their lives to accomplish that for Maithripala and elect a government of good governance. It is a pity even now the deposed people discarded ex president who is considered by one and all as fast gravitating towards the grave and a spent force is despite his acute senile decay mentally and physically is engaging in most treacherous manipulations to wrest nominations from president Maithripala.

The president gave this unequivocal confirmation when he met with the leaders of the people’s forces today (noon) who were ready to sacrifice their lives to earn him victory on 8 th January.. The president met with these patriotic forces at a venue that cannot be disclosed.(Names of the leaders who participated shall be revealed later )

Following a lengthy discussion , the president has stated in no uncertain terms that not only Mahinda , even those minions who are queued up behind him , the notorious corrupt crooked scoundrels who were responsible to devastate the SLFP party will not be given nominations.’ ‘Even if my hand is severed I shall not grant nominations to the corrupt’ were the words used by the president.

        Accordingly, the following :
        Mahinda Rajapakse
        Namal Rajapakse
        Basil Rajapakse
        Mahindananda Aluthgamage
        Dilan Perera
        Sajin Vaas Gunawardena
        Rohitha Abeygunawardena
        S.M. Chandrasena
        T.B. Ekanayake
        Duminda Silva
        Mervyn Silva
        Lakshman Vasantha Perera
        Dhanasiri Amaratunge
        Jonstan Fernando

are the corrupt politicos who will not be getting nominations under SLFP.

It is significant to note that Susil Premajayantha the UPFA general secretary , even though is a bootlicking shameless stooge of the Rajapakses , he has no powers to sign for the nominations alone. In the circumstances , his statement yesterday that all the parliamentarians will be given nominations is based on his day dream.

Desperate and dejected Mahinda who got wind of this is now frantically seeking to take refuge in Dinesh’s MEP party and its symbol , the wheel , or Wimal Weerawansa’s NFF party and its ‘panchayudha’ symbol . He is now having discussions on this.

At the same time , according to the memorandum of understanding signed between president Maithripala and Ranil Wickremesinghe , anybody who is not granted nomination under the SLFP will not be given nomination under the UNP too. In any case , the UNP executive committee and Ranil Wickremesinghe have already decided that nominations shall not be granted to politicos facing charges of corruption.

6.2 million people rallied together to bring about a decisive change in the country successfully .Today this number has risen phenomenally – not diminished. It is the people’s apirations and cherished aim that the government shall be anti corrupt , development and good governance prone . No mafia boss , no godfather , no selfish opportunistic or thug of a ruler can oppose this force.

There is nothing to be excited about. Mahinda will sail through. The tuk tuk drivers are with him. There is astrological change in his favour and God Kali has blessed him for his victory.

I invite you to promote Mahinda in your writings until the election. He is a great guy that Sri Lanka needs. If he miss this chance, Sri Lanka will be the looser forever.

I am a transformed person since I met him in Colombo before his defeat in the presidential election. There is something in him that I am unable to express that attracts me towards him so much.

My partner too will be joining to campaign for him. But does not like publicity of his engagement.

    Mr. Jay,

Of course Sampanthan…and Sumanthiran are Tamil moderates, we Tamils striving for self respect within Sri Lanka would like go that way ; for the Sinhala hardliners that is hilarious …..as usual ans in many a time Tamils branded worse than that denoting that the Tamils are always secondary citizen since independence. Every citizen of Sri Lanka (that includes Tamils and Muslims mind you) should have the right to elect their own leaders. I agree with you in that respect, as such I would like TNA to accommodate all the rehabilitated former LTTE cadres, who are pressing for candidature, absorbing them into total democratic system. I hope Mr. Jay shall agree with me!

It is true that Jeevan has a passion to become the VC of Jaffna University, but he never went begging to MR as you allege.

It is too early to draw any confusion. The truth has not emerged yet.

Any one or more of the following possibilities may apply:

    1. MS is an unreliable and cowardly person.
    2. MS is stupid and has been trapped in the web spun by MR.
    3. MR has yet something up his sleeve that will trip MR.
    4. The Pro-MR wing of the UPFA has tried its final card, behind MRs back.

We have to wait patiently to pass judgement.

Eventually, MR and his gang will confirm what they are and MS will lose/ enhance his halo.

Dr. RN – Possibility No. 3 in your comment may happen. Presume you read the article by Indian General Hariharan , a regular writer on
esteem journal CT, has said some time back that MS has mastered the
art of keeping secrets to himself than any other world leaders. Have
a feeling that,as you said, MS(presume you meant) has yet something
up his sleeve that will trick MR. In most probability MR will remain
an MP while Rajitha Senaratne will be PM designate. You mark my words.
MR as an MP can also work for the people and that is his ambition and that will be the answer from MS for accommodating MR to contest.

Rajitha did not comment much of SLFP/UPFA going together as he is sure of his position in the event UPFA wins and he will also there if UNP forms a national Govt. If you read in between the lines of their very recent communications, it is clear MS does not want to hand over the reins to MR.as PM. for obvious reasons, even under heavy pressure. Do you think that India is not watching the situation.?

Even at this stage people feel that MS is not a flip flopper and a
man of one word but if he does A “U” turn, he gets into category 1
      in the order, above.

        Lanka Watch,

From what I learn, the Indian High Commissioner had a long meeting with MS on the evening the Premajayanth signed document was released.

The 6th to 15th July nomination week will reveal many things regarding our future as a country.

The direction we take largely rests on MS’s decisions. I hope we do not miss the bus once again.

We all know India and its people cannot develop their own country because they are too weak instead try and stop other countries development. How pathatic!!Just like Tamils!!!

Dr. R.N – You are absolutely correct in your assessment of the current political situation and India, indeed is behind the “U” turn done by the President. MR praised India to the hilt in his
very recent speech.India wants fishing rights in the Northern sea even facing extinction of the northern fisher folk and this is only possible under MR. govt. More over India does not favor UNP coming to power as they are with the West & USA. and will never get the fishing rights in Northern sea. This has become an
important issue for India as BJP needs Tamil Nadu(Jaya) support
in forming the next govt.as their honeymoon period is over and facing stiff opposition from other parties and even resignation of some ministers were demanded.

Let this be a good lesson for Mr. Sampanthan and Mr.Vigneswaran
who are hanging around Mr. Modi for nothing.

This guy is supposed to be ans academic and once appointed vice of University of Jaffna by Mahinda Rajapakse.
If this is the kind of thinking coming from the so called educated of the tamil people no wonder what has happnened to them.
The baldness of this pretender of an academic must surely be due to sun and rain and not life and experience.
The majority’s wishes just can not be wished away with soaring aspirations(as put by sampndan)of the Tamil poeple of the north which itself is a myth to fool the poor Tamils of the north in order to keep the power within the elite circle.

    Professor Hoole,

“For myself, in my enthusiasm for the 8 January 2015 verdict, I have told my office that I will leave for Sri Lanka once my two senior-most students defend their doctoral theses this Summer; for the others I have made suitable arrangements. It is too late for me to back off now. So go I will, back to Sri Lanka, come what may.”

Welcome back. What is the status of the court case by Douglas? Will you not face problems because of that?

“God save me. And God save all Sri Lankans.”

Thank you. We need all the help that is available.

Bring back the LTTE … Is that what the good professor is professing here or rather implying ?..

Tamils and Muslims don’t even add up to 25 % of the inhabitant population..Am I right?..

And Professor Hoole wants them the right to rule the 75 % of the inhabitants.

Is it fair beides anything else?.

Can Ranil , Surendran , the Reverend and Mangalan impose their agenda on the great majority without getting their consent?.

Is reconciliation ,giving Singapore Mahendran and his Family 30 years of interest on their investments and rounding up all good Sinhala Buddhists by the UNP F…CID set up Ranil?.

Do Galleon Ravi, Rajitha Senarathna, Kiriella, Mangala Samaraweera and John Amratunga look like people who want to help the inhabitants, lift their living standards and bring them to be on par with the Elite?.

Sambandan and Sumanathiran turned moderates after Ranil promised them 13 A Plus Plus with TNA Police and Land Titles by creating a Special Minister post in his Yhapaana Cabinet Mk 11.

Is that reconciliation or separation under stealth?.

The great majority of the inhabitant population who happen to be Sinhala Buddhists are no fools any more.

They proved it in January 2015.

And they have proved it beyond doubt this time on July 1..

Dr Hooles have the luxury of taking time out to come and stir the pot and go back when it starts boiling.

Unfortunately the great majority do not have that luxury.

That is why they have become smarter.

And even Sira can’t stop them protecting their rights on their only turf.

    Prof RJH

I have read that article and wished it was a false report. If true, not suminthiran and Sampanthan but all peace loving citizens were taken for a ride, yes, minorities confidence took a battering of Sinhala leaders, but we had been used to it.

“If Rajapaksa wins from a safe seat with an SLFP majority in parliament, and his MPs elect him their leader, what will happen?” If ticket is given in SLFP, there is no any IF, MR will win. The question then is what will happen after his win. With the money he has, He will buy some UNP MPs and become PM, easily. I guess, Maithiri will be a sitting duck by virtue of 19th he proudly brought in. If he opens his mouth that doesn’t please MR, he can bring an impeachment and he will be not the one term but a fractional term president, what kind of fraction that is going to be, will be decided by MS, not by MR. If all these happened, although MR said, unwittingly that he wanted to come to politics to safeguard his family from the cases that were being brought in by the comic MS government, his revival is more than he bargained for.

For minorities, hope eating the humble pie during the eight months, MR has learnt a lesson, and if he did, there is a hope that some meaningful power sharing will happen. Would like to see where Chandrika in all these.

Initially when I heard this news I thought MS wanted more Hoppers And Whisky from MR.

But now it is clear that was not the case. No matter whether the report was a fraud ( a usual

MR trick) or MS actually agreed to it and has now changed his mind due to pressure

from many people, the decision is going to be reversed it seems.

    So no more Hoppers Mr.President.

Everyone is extremely equal to each other just only the outer appearance is different.

Most people dreamed but everyone who are in political surroundings are deeply thinking of their power and profoundly they betray innocent people and young generation.

Every day, every week, every month, every year and every term so called politicians betray people but unfortunately still people are not wise to understand it.

Specially Sinhalese are blind and deaf.

Hope Brothers and sisters of other ethnic groups will teach a lesson in this election.

Your minority intelligent Thamils tried to teach Sinhalese lesson for 30 odd years but end up having a good mud bath in Nandikhadal lagoon.

Keep collecting more money for another round of futile war. Intensify your drug trafficking, arm smugglings, credit card scams and spread lying in western world.

National question apart, the division in SLFP/UPFA is imminent. CBK faction may go alone, some may join UNP straight away. In that scenario how much JVP get is a trillion dollar question. It will be a four cornered contest in which UNP has an advantage! If Rajapakse denied nomination CBK faction may get more votes otherwise betel leaf symbol enough to project MR an undeclared premier candidate by the constituents lacking a charismatic leader!

Professor RJH need not entertain any doubts. 8th January is an irreversible process. The real repeal of the executive presidency will not be by statute. As Pieter Keuneman predicted it will be settled elsewhere . Thanks to MR the streets are wider and the walkways are paved with bricks of faded crimson.

United National Party is loyal to all communities, unlike the SLFP. A clear resounding victory will enable Wickremesinghe to restrict Sirisena’s use of executive powers by limiting its the budget through Ravi Karunanayake’s ministry. This will allow the United National Party to function as a stable government with the majority of seats without being jeopardised by Pro-MR goons.

This means MR will lose all privilege as a former President which are designated to, MR will be treated as an ordinary MP which used to treat others.

You guys need to select the UNP for the government this will give more benefits to the minority and majority in the country.

“It is not extremists who make the wrong decisions, it the people who runs the country make the wrong decisions to stay in power.”

We, Tamils knew if it was Mahinda Rajapaksha or Maithiribala (devil & evil), who ever came as president of Sri Lanka, they were not going to do anything for Tamils. Some idiot Tamil leaders though they will.

Even I would go one step further and say even if it was Singala donkey or monkey come into power with Sinhala ideology in their mindset, nothing going to work and unfortunately innocent Sinhales will be punished for it.

Also Singala people should understand the root cause of the problem in Sri Lanka and work for it and change the mind set of people in power ie: President, Primnister, Ministers, MPs and specialy Buddhist Monks (thus – BBS) until that you will not see peace & prosperous in Sri Lanka.

    Dear KAS,

“Unfortunately the great majority do not have that luxury” what a poor liar you are, You should have written the great majority did not have enough to eat three times day even after the two decades of PAY-TRIO-TIC(P) rule, That is why they have become smarter. They proved it in January 2015. And they are yet to prove how intelligent they are in judging true plight of the Nation!

Whether Rama Rules or Ravana rules, the position of the Tamils will be the same as ever.
So why bother. The Tamils have to concentrate on their future. Get rid of the trio, Sambanthan, Sumanthiran and Mavai. It is better if the Tamils boycott the elections.

Why are you all afraid about Mahinda? You don’t have to bother about the contestants who are willing to be a Member of Parliament or a Prime minister. Eerybody has right s to contest the election. Let the voters decide on the winners. This is what I have understood about the democracy.
