Bodu Bala Sena And The Friday Forum

By C. Wijeyawickrema

Colombo crowd’s Friday Forum is worried about “Muslim hunting” in Sri Lanka. As usual this mostly retired-elite group is in a tunnel.  Not a word about the Ulamas working like Taliban agents in Sri Lanka.  Aasad Saaly does a better job in his consideration of the other side of the Halal certification issue.  FF wants to blame the Bodu Bala Sena and that is all.  I do not know how many parents of the Friday Forum’s (FF) Sinhala Buddhist members sent them to a village/town Temple Sunday school when they were young children. I also do not know how many of them had heard the story of a colonial governor expressing his embarrassment when (in the 1880s) the Sinhala representative of the then Legislative Council had voted against the resolution to make Vesak a public holiday in Ceylon.  The Sinhala rep who was a Christian said that one week of Christmas holidays was enough for all in Ceylon.  No Forum can become a “useful” entity unless it at least gives the impression to the public (in this case Colombo English-speaking crowd) that it knows what it is talking about. Otherwise, the perception of people will be that FF is nothing but a weekend gathering of a wine and cheese party.

Sri Lanka’s history and a geography cannot be ignored. How can it (FF) forget even the most recent past? Think of the dark days of CBK who is now coming back to talk about bad MPs forgetting that she was the one who first made Mervyn Silva, the thug, an MP!  With her two chief disciples Mangala Samaraweera and S. B. Dissanayake, organizing white lotus peace parades in Colombo, ridiculing the village boys and girls sacrificing their lives in the North, Sinhala Buddhists were hiding their faces in fear and shame!  It was the late Ven. Gangodavila Soma, reminiscent of the earlier times of the Anagarika Dharmapala who came forward to pump oxygen to a dying and discriminated community of Sinhala Buddhists. There was no lay man or woman with a backbone to help boost Buddhist morale, and Ven. Soma said he had nothing to lose. He became an unstoppable national force which a shrewd converted evangelical businessman like Lalith Kotalawala was able to foresee. The others saw the true value of Ven. Soma Movement only after Ven. Soma’s tragic death, reminding people the Buddhist doctrine of impermanence of things. Ven. Soma’s funeral proved that Buddhists are becoming a disciplined-organized, and if necessary Malcolm X-like force.

Three entities tried to claim Ven. Soma’s dowry. Chandrika tried to bribe Ven. Soma’s mother and take a photograph with her. JVP demonstrators found Buddhist monks waiting on roadsides with pirith nuul. Ultimately, it was Mahinda Rajapakse who could benefit from Ven. Soma’s effort. MR won because of the Sinhala Buddhist vote. A president is the president all ethnic groups. But it does not mean he should ignore Sinhala Buddhists at the expense of so-called ethnic harmony or interfaith labels. Ali Jinna once told Gandhi, “Mr. Gandhi you worship cow but we eat cow, so how can we become friends?”  Similarly one God-based religions and Buddhism cannot be same as Buddhists do not believe in a God.  Since Buddhist never harmed or interfered with other religions, what the government was expected to do was to protect Buddhism from harm perpetrated by other religions came from the West. Buddhists did not ask to make Buddhism the state religion. For example, when D. S. Senanayake, on the advice of Ivor Jennings said that there is no Pali stanza saying “Aanduwa Saranam Gachchami” (I take refuge of the government), Buddhist position was clearly laid out thus:

“The Buddhists wish—and quite rightly—that in this country where they form 70 percent of the population, Buddhism should be recognized as the predominant religion of the people. In the rest of the world, Ceylon is regarded as essentially a Buddhist country, and they want this claim established here as well…They will not be content to remain in the position of inferiority to which they have been reduced by 450 years of foreign occupation… They  have no desire to make Buddhism the State religion—in spite of the cry raised by self-seeking politicians— but they want the State to help them rehabilitate themselves and undo some, at least, of the injustices perpetrated against them during the days of their subjection.”

(From a speech by Professor Gunapala Malalasekera, President of the All-Ceylon Buddhist          Congress, printed in Times of Ceylon,January 15, 1956, reproduced on page 196 of the book,               Ceylon: Dilemmas of a New Nation by W. H. Wriggins, Princeton Univ. Press, 1960, p. 196).

Despite this position successive governments of Colombo ruling families used Buddhism as a platform for them to get votes and erected constitutions mentioning foremost position to Buddhism etc. As we can clearly see from the Buddhism ministry under the present prime minister, this kind of false recognition became a loss to Buddhists on five different ways: No extra benefits were given to Buddhists, but other world religious units got government office space; and international Christian groups started a propaganda campaign against Buddhists citing the constitutional words. Useless and sabotaging ministry officers did more damage than good to Buddhist institutions via government control. Temple chief monks who were independent sovereign entities unlike a Christian church became dependent on government dole for funds; villagers thought that they do not have to donate for temple maintenance now that the government is taking care of temples!   While this is going on in Sri Lanka, on the other hand in Christian countries such as in USA George Bush gave all the privileges to Christian evangelists, despite the requirement of religious neutrality mentioned in the US Constitution. In UK it is Queeen’s religion. In Norway it is another Christian faith.

When a president who came to power with the Sinhala Buddhist vote could not protect even the Buddhist ruins in the East and North, when Buddhist social values and heritage was rapidly declining, Bodu Bala Sena came to speak on behalf of Buddhists.  Halal issue was the match that lighted the firewood gradually accumulating all over Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka could not prevent the dynamiting of the Bamian Buddha or setting fire to ancient Buddhist manuscripts found in Afghanistan. But the government must at least be able to prevent bulldozing ancient Buddhist temples. The jokers in the Archeology Department could not stop even that. For them it was only a heap of earth. Both Christian Church and Islam organizations in the world spend millions of dollars to convert people by unethical means.

It is true that it was Gotabhaya Rajapakse who helped MahindaR to win the war. FF can have cheese and wine parties in Colombo because of that. But when it comes to civil administration, MR Administration is no different from past administrations.  Corruption, inefficiency and general stupidity is continuing. It divides people either as yes men or enemies.  Mahinda R is missing a great opportunity to make Sri Lanka a real Dharmishta Rajya. Mahinda Chinthanaya cannot work unless and until people are freed from crook politicians. One of the best approaches is to empower people at the village level demarcated by natural, language-blind political units with a ten-member council elected on non-party basis. Instead of the present Divineguma plan based on officialdom, which is bound to fail, village councils so selected must be allowed to decide on local affairs including education. Officers and higher governmental units must be there to help and not to decide on behalf of people. This is what one can say is the 13A Plus as from village level councils it can go upward to seven river basin regions in the island with Yalpanam as the northern river basin.

Because LLRC report created more problems to the government, Ulamas thought they can capitalize on MahindaR’s weakness to bend over backwards to please the minorities and introduce hala joke in an authoritarian manner. A Buddhist country like Sri Lanka does not need American or Navi Pillay-kind of advisors to teach on human rights. Buddhist gave women equal rights and even animals and trees their rights 2600 years ago. The problem is past politicians and present president is either not willing or not able to implement Buddhist principles. Buddhist principles are reasonable principles. For example, Muslims Ulamas can have halal but it is unreasonable to gear it toward non-Muslims. Sri Lankan Muslim women do not have to become goni billas covering their head in streets as Sri Lanka does not have sand storms. In their mosques they can cover their bodies not on public roads.

I wanted show FF that if they just isolate an issue and write complaints it will be a waste of time and energy. FF must try to be a forum wanting to help all Sri Lankans and not directing their frustration against MahindaR. For example, FF members need to watch on Youtube what Bodu Bala Sena said at the Archeological Dept meeting or in Beruwala hotel about the Buddha Bar to see both the trees as well as the forest. I challenge FF to have a meeting with BBS so that FF will not write another silly letter to the president. Otherwise FF is no different from that Tisaranee Gunasekara who spits her venom against the Rajapakse family. She throws the baby with the bath water. Judging from how it works via Youtube videos I think BBS will be the future hope of Sri Lanka.

Editor of CT should edit some of the contents of some of the articles such as this. It is quite all right to allow different views to be platfomed but some of the offensive statements need to be moderated. I will not even bother to enter in to an discussion about the main theme of this piece. But can’t CT editor edit out unnecessarily inflammatory remarks like “muslin women can cover themselves in their mosque but not on the road”? How does that foolish sentence contribute to the main argument of this article? Who is this guy to even suggest where and how a woman can cover up her body? Whether a muslim woman covers her body in mosque or road is up to her.Why can’t these sexually frustrated men keep these stupid remarks to themselves? Does he comment on how much his mother exposes her midriff when she wears a saree? How much is she allowed to bare in temple and how much on the road? These perverts should stop fantasizing about women on the road and vent their frustration in sport… or protest…or..whatever!

It is entirely wrong to blame the FF. They are only concerned that there should be unity in the country. I have read articles written by Prof.Savitri Goonasekera, Jayantha Dhanapala, Ahilan Kathirgamar, etc and they have only voiced their concern over extremism dominating the country and worried about erosion of democratic practices in all aspects. Buddhism is a religion practicing tolerance and so with other religions. It is the politicians who utilized Buddhism as a tool for their own benefits. Even Muslims were a peace loving community. It is the turn of events that happened in Saudi which gradually affected even Sri Lanka. This incident could have been defused had the Muslim politicians declared unequivocally that fanaticism is evil. But Muslim people were under threat from the Wahhabists and some Muslim politicians had fallen prey to this evil sabotage. It is natural that some Muslim politicians had utilized such events for their political gains.
On the other hand, BBS should not have demonstrated such emotional hatred feelings toward the Muslim community as they are also a segment of Sri Lankan community. BBS should have been aware of the concept of Buddham Saranam Kachchami. Likewise every religion has similar concepts.
The difference between Hinduism and other religions is that Hinduism is not an organized religion without a founder and without a prescribed text book, whereas other religions are organized and monotheistic. Buddhism is an offshoot of Hinduism, and governed by the principles of a single founder, who was a Hindu. Buddhism has all the elements of a religion. At the same time Buddhism has been a peaceful religion or a way of life as it might be called and less harmful than other religions. Hinduism, on the other hand, can be described as Monotheism, polytheism, theism, atheism, etc. It is a Universal religion. But Hinduism also believed in one God, but ancient sages has seen God in masculine form and feminine form. The other religions viz, Christianity, Catholicism, Islam, etc have been monthestic. Even among Muslims there are several Religious sects, like in other religions. Every sect has their belief and God. There were wars between religious factions in Europe and today they are all united after realizing their fallacies. But there was a turn of event, when Saudi Arabia which was floating in petro-Dollars, where specific Islamic Sect known as Wahhabi ideologists took various steps to revive Islam based on extremism, intended to wage a war on the Western democratic countries. Eventually Wahhabism had its influence in Sri Lanka too. The motive of the Wahhabi Sect was viewed with suspicion throughout the world.
It appears that there is an equal conflict of interest between Wahhabi Sect and the BBS in their approaches. Because Buddhism was ignored prior to the independence, it does not mean Buddhist extremists should take violent methods on other religions. BBS should have taken into consideration that every democratic countries, especially in the Western democratic countries has given protection and due significance to Buddhism. For instance, in Canada religious freedom is guaranteed to the maximum which Sri Lanka cannot even imagine. As such, BBS could have taken some disciplinary actions through their Sangas over the conduct of some Buddhist priests or if a section of the Muslim community has engaged in illegal activities they could have brought to the attention of the law enforcing authorities. Yet when such illegal activities committed with the connivance of Muslim politicians (it cannot considered as an individual act, but as a reflection of the face of a specific community), were questioned legally or were brought to the attention of the law enforcing authorities by way of exposing the unwanted threats to the country, citizens were harmed. The gunning down of a Colombo High Court judge was a case in point. There were also instances of some professional being about to be murdered but escaped miraculously (mention should be made these professionals were also students of Prof.Savitri Goonasekera) by Muslim politicians engaging some underworld criminals and law enforcing officers being transferred on account of the political pressures. On one side, there were good Buddhists and good Muslims whereas on the other side there were ugly incidents committed by both the Muslim politicians and the BBS. This does not mean BBS should harp on Halal issues, Muslim codes on dress for women, etc. and engage in activities leading to religious animosities.
Therefore, the vital issue is how to defuse these unwanted tensions and conflict and restore harmony in the country. The root cause is poor governance. Good governance can be expected from civil officers and not from military officers. If one look at the manner how uncultured people like Wimal Weerawansa, Dillon Perera, Mervyn Silva, etc, were appointed to vital portfolios who have no knowledge on those subjects at all, it is certain that there will be animosities between the communities. One ponders whether stooges of MR are complying with the Buddhist practices and its tenets. It is sad to hear that BBS has brought utter disgrace to the great religion Buddhism, like the Wahhabi Sect bringing disgrace to Islam. In my view, all extremist groups like the BBS and the Wahhabi Sect will eventually vanish by their own conduct, which is history. If the President thinks that he is reflecting the face of entire Sri Lankans without discrimination, then it is time for him to realize that extremism in whatever form that rears up should be discouraged at the very inception, and failure to do, the evil elements that promotes extremism will be instrumental for the downfall of MR and for Sri Lanka to be disgraced in the eyes of the international community.

Why don’t BBS campaign Buddhists to refrain from eating Meat and Fish.

It is part of Buddhist religion to be Vegetarians…..as beef to Hindus and Pork to Muslim.

I challange BBS if they could implement all Buddhists to be VEGETARIANS.

I will be the happiest person if everyone is a vegetarian.

A vital nutrient missing in a vegetarian diet is B12, and that’s only a problem for vegans, who use no animal products of any kind.
B12 is key to a healthy nervous system; it helps with synthesis of DNA during cell division. Lack of B12 causes formation of abnormal cells, which eventually will lead to anemia.

All Buddhists ought to take lessons on religious spirituality not from their learned monks but half-witted evangelist Mahela cum Jayantha to attain nibbana. How’s that advise, eh.

Man, read from from the internet or learn at least basics of Buddhist tripitaka from a learned before you open your foul mouth and show your ignorance.

          0

          For Both Citizen and Noble,

First of all I shall thank Noble for analysing me as half-witted and advising me to learn from tripitaka.

The little I know about lord Buddha is that in order to search ways to eliminate suffering………he left his crown, wife and children and went to jungle while fasting and meditating for years until almost dying…..and finally found the truth. That’s how he attained enlightenment.Pl.read following web.

          http://www.vesaksingapore.org/?p=1

Also I have researched more on Vegetarianism and I know how a vegetarian look, behave and their lifestyles. Please see following web.
          http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080121063410AAtskyh
          http://www.healthguidance.org/entry/11183/1/Disadvantages-of-Being-a-Vegetarian.html

When I see these BBS and many other Sri Lankan Buddhist monks……..they don’t look vegetarians. Mind you they also should refrain from eating dinner.

But infact of looking Vegetarians they look well fed, well taken care of, over weight, meat eating, beer drinking well built studs……than looking buddhist monks. Please prove me if I am wrong.

With regarding to Vegetarian diet….only if Citizen can teach Alaskan or a siberian or a Mongolian…….who live 9 months out of 12 in pure Ice snow to be a vegetarian will be helpful. They cannot survive in cold without animal fat and protein with no vegetation in sight.

Citizen…. can be happy if all are vegetarians, but it should be with sense and pratical. Without been a pratical and realistic person, no point bringing up unwanted un-realistic issues.

But Buddhist Philosophy is taught the followers to be vegetarians…….If BBS along with their folk encourage their followers to be Vegetarians is better than fighting for a Muslim Halal label.

Whom these well built BBS studs and our commenter Noble trying to fool……Not me, as I can’t be fooled easily. Maybe a village “Game mattaya” could be easily fooled as the way Rajapakses does.

Also what is the Halal label BBS pushing for…..If they can find answers to the following questions.

1)Can BBS stop sending our Buddhist men and women to Middle East, and refrain them from eating Halal food there…..

2)Can BBS also stop using ME Halal petrol, Money, Loans, Investments, Tourists, dates and other food that come to Sri Lanka from Middle East.

3)Do BBS force Sri Lankan based Middle East Diplomats to eat Normal food…..without being Halal.

3)Does BBS stop our hotels serving Halal food to Middle East tourists….or stop ME tourists coming to Sri Lanka …….or stop sending our Buddhist diplomatic staff and their families to Middle East so they don’t eat Halal food.

4)Can BBS challange their body sizes be compared to any other local average citizen……..or even compare with Buddhist priests from Thailand, vietnam, Japan or any other country……

5)Why did Wimal Weerawanse said during DM interview that only in Sri Lanka Therawada Buddhist priests are given higher status and authority to interfere in Politics and Governing unlike other countries such as Thailand or Japan. Pl. reade following web…….
          http://www.dailymirror.lk/video/26306-i-feel-another-black-july.html

6)Has Buddhism in Sri Lanka has Hi-Jacked our Politics, culture, economy, wealth, communities, minority races, minority religions etc…etc…

It’s time BBS to reduce using their Body parts and start using their brains to solve problems, while leaving the dogs do their jobs without interfering others affairs and being Policemen.

If BBS want to join full time Army…it’s fine, but not while overfeeding at our expense, and doing part time Army job.

How come in USA with over 200 different communities, races, religions living in harmony…….while Sri Lanka with only three communities who are known each other for milleniums cannot live in peace.

There’s also a saying that Donkeys are a species that is born by nature and cannot be corrected.

Please both Citizen and Noble….. write your comments and reply me after doing proper home work.

Yes, you have raised some vital issues as to why vegetarianism cannot be practised. It is an issue that has to be examined deeply. Yet I do not accept violence practiced by any groups. But one thing I can ssure that vegetarianism is been spread throughout the world and people have shown interest over it. I will reply it in due course, but that does not mean I am against the Muslims.

01-It is sad to hear that BBS has brought utter disgrace to the great religion Buddhism, like the Wahhabi Sect bringing disgrace to Islam.

Sorry not a good comparison- lets compare apples to apples. Theravada vs Mahayan; Sufism vs. Wahabi.

BBS attacks another religion, Islam, which is religious intolerance.

The Muslims have sects like Wahhabi; they are being the more assertive sect in their own corner.

Theravada Buddhism practiced here would never allow Mahayana Buddhism to take root in Sri Lanka. Now that is extremism and intolerance to you and is a good comparison with Wahabis and Sufis

So you are talking sadly, lots of bull

Prithvi is right what he says about what is practised in the name of Buddhism are remnants of rituals picked from here and there. We are ashamed to call Sri Lanka the repositary of Theravada Buddhism. One must emulate Australia for assisting the propagation of non-christian religions of the migrant community.I happened to visit a Budhist monastery in Sydney where grants are given by the Government. The truth is that Buddhism will ultimately be fostered by the Christian West where there are thousands of non-Asian Buddhists. The rightous Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka remain silent in the face of religious violence while the roudy monks have acquired the sole right of protecting Dhamma.the professional bodies like the Friday forum are alarmed at the turn of events as they look beyond their nose to see the impending disaster not seen by the hooligan monks and their lay followers.

I thought Buddha had taught about middle path to his followers. If these Buddhists take to violence to protect Buddhism, they will definitely make good Muslims than Buddhists. And, after learning Buddha’s philosophy, if these Monks cannot control their worldly desires and emotions, do they say that what they learnt and follow are just useless? When Prince Gauthama disliked Hindu philosophy of life, he went into meditation and never declared war against the Hindus.

Culture is not constant. It changes with time. Many Sinhalese Buddhists have given up their ancient type of clothing and converted to jeans and t-shirts. Why can’t the Muslim women shift to gonis? It is a fashion clothing in Muslim world. Even in the Europe, non-Muslim women celebrate international abaya day.

Halal certificate is an opportunity. Many Buddhist countries like Thailand and China use it to reach to the lucrative Muslim markets. The petty jealousy position of BBS will only take the country backward.

The silence of the government and support of the powerful Ministers and Secretaries to BBS will lead to an ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Sri Lanka. And, until achieving their target, they will continue their efforts to provoke an ethnic clash like in Myanmar and naturally, under their big boss’s order, the police will close the eye if not cross firing. Halal, Abaya and the next will be Islamic banking.

So, it is time for the Muslims to get ready for a mass migration.

I agree with you. Muslims will leave the country! Some others will empathize with the separatists.

J.R.Jayawardane visioned a Just society, literally means in english a “Just Society”, means in context, a society ‘idle’.

The irony is, the vision of a ‘Juxtaposed society’ has come into it’s fruition during an opposition ruled era, as just a society the society of ‘TaproDance’ dancing to the BAILA of the RajaPots’ sarcastic “Bana Republic”.

Sunila talks about how Australias assisting the propagation of non-christian religions of the migrant community. As usual she is talking absolute nonsense.

She should read an article on Muslim agitation in Australia and how by Nick Adams, the author of two top-selling books: “America: The Greatest Good” and its 2012 sequel, “Exceptional America: A Message of Hope from a Modern-Day de Tocqueville” wanted to crack down on radical Islam there and everywhere. http://www.wnd.com/2013/03/radical-islam-sparks-controversy-down-under/
Read the 63 comments there as well. Given the slightest opportunity that is exactly what Muslims would do in Sri Lanka.

Imagine if what Muslims would do in Australia and Sri Lanka had they have become the majority.

Once these haters started to snatch our basic religious rights, we should seriously think about getting out from there. We Muslims should give priority to Our Islamic values and practices more then our own comfort. These so called “peaceful Buddiest ” now transgressing against our basic rights through non-sensical and un-justifiable claims. Yet they forgot the contribution that the Muslims did to this country. This is the kinda treatment we get in return. I don’t think any country in the world ever did such a foolish act like banning the halal certificate after it has being in function, like our beloved country lol…, I really don’t understand the rational behind this banning. Its our civil right, oh I forgot here its only Buddist rights go..

I am seriously considering about the noble verse of holy Quran quoted below:

    97. “Verily (as for) those whom the angels cause to die while they are unjust to their own selves, they (the angels) will ask: ‘In what state were you?’ They will reply: ‘We were oppressed in the land’. (The angels) will say: ‘Was not Allah’s land vast so that you could have migrated therein?’ So these (are those) whose abide is Hell, and an evil destination it is! ” 98. “Except the feeble among the men, women, and children, who neither have in their power the means nor do they know any way.” 99. “So, perhaps, Allah will pardon them and Allah is Pardoning, Forgiving.” (Sura Nisaa)

May God almighty grant us guidance and keep us save to spread the real peace unlike the claim of so called peace makers.

I am advising all young Muslim men and women to leave. Please focus on getting qualified and leave as soon as possible.

This is a country that is doomed. Once the BBS is done with the Muslims, they will go after the Christians. And then they will fight among themselves.

Remember the man who threw a Tamil into a burning vehicle in Peliyagoda is living without being punished.

This is a country that applauds lawlessness and ape miniha is shaped up. that is ape kama!

as muslims in sri lanka they have their own culture or traditions by dress, eating habits etc like other religions so why these extremist BBS wanted to stop them. i dont understand why. for christian pork is a special diet for them. muslims beef is a special diet for them, tamils are most vegeterians , sinhalese people dont like to slaughter animals but love to eat. What i mean to ask the BBS what is the problem with their dress codes and eating habits to BBS. Muslims in sri lanka we dont eat pork, dont consume alcohol, muslim women dont like to expose their bodies etc. these are good things , dont harm anyone or BBS. So why dont BBS leave the muslims alone and try to teach your religions without being put your fingers on other religions. today why there are crimes have been increased in sri lanka.
DRUGS,ALCOHOLS,PORN AND SEX VIDEOS,SEXY AND OPEN DRESS AND TIGHT DRESS WHICH EXPOSE THEIR BODIES AND YOUTH AND EVEN ELDERS ARE AROUSE. ALL THESE THINGS HAVE BEEN PROHIBITED BY ISLAM AS A RELIGION

BBS should stop the followings in sri lanka then we will support you.
Police cannot stop or reduce the crime rates in sri lanka because either they have been bribed or political pressume. BBS has free hands to stop these crimes, from rape , drugs, child abuse, corruptions, alcohol, massage parlors, prostitutions, casinos. if you BBS monks are true and followers of LORD BUDDHA you should stop them without fears. CAN YOU BBS STOP THEM. If you trying to make communial violence. FIRST STOP THESE MENANCE IN SRI LANKA AND SHOW US THE BUDDHA PREACHINGS TO THE WORLD where as a buddhist country we are very shame of the worlds NO 1 DRUNKARDS NO 1 SEX OR PORN WATCHERS, NO 1 SUICIDERS , so how can we deal with.

all the religions in sri lanka should have meetings and come to a conclusions how to reduce crimes in the island rathar ethnic hatre. this will be a wise move be friends share your opinions and thoughts how to develop the religions, cities, village, youths, how to create a friendly nation etc. interlectuals aims are these things not violent and hatre. we suffered almost 30 years we dont need another setback.
ALL SRI LANKANS ARE PEACE LOVERS NOT TROUBLE MAKERS. WE SHOW PROVE THIS TO THE WORLD. BAN THIS RADICAL GROUPS BADU BALA SENA JHU. WE DONT NEED GROUPS AFTER GROUP TO DIVIDE PEOPLE AND THEIR MENTALIES. WE SRI LANKANS HAVE BRIGHT FUTURE SO WE DONT NEED A WAR.

Come up with support, and data that says these were the Enlightened Buddhas teachings to achieve Nirvana.

Greed, false ideologies, hate is not part of Buddhism, and any other religion.

BBS wants to emulate the Al Queda, and the Wahhabi.

BBS, you have created a greater awareness of the TRUTH.
Everyone should read this article about the Swiss Politician who rose to fame opposing Islam, but eventually embraced Islam.

Wow, I read it and it is truly amazing. Although I don’t think it would have the same effect with Buddhists reading and understanding Quran as they are stone worshippers. Mostly Christians can relate to Quran better, since Jesus (PBOH) and Mary (mother of Jesus) are mentioned in convincing detail.

I think as muslims we have been taught to choose our food carefully from a young age. So the Halal issue can be compromised for the betterment of the entire country.

As for the niqab, if its the law of the land that it is prohibited in public, then we will have to obey.

However, if mass thuggish monks or others lay hands on muslim women whilst the police and the government stand idly by

Then we will have to take up arms and fight till the death.

I second that thought. Already there have been several incidents reported from outside city limits where Muslim women have been pulled by the scarves, insulted and abused in public. Its sad that no action has been taken by the state law. There women have fathers, husbands, sons and brothers and they would react if this get worst to protect their women. I think the only people who can make a difference are the educated open minded Buddhist community in Sri Lanka. Your vice will be heard.
