British Govt Must Support Holding Sri Lanka Accountable: Siobhain McDonagh

The British Government must be willing to hold the Sri Lankan authorities to account if they reject the findings and recommendations of the forthcoming United Nations report into alleged war crimes and human rights violations on the island, according to Siobhain McDonagh MP.

Speaking during a debate on Sri Lanka in the UK Parliament on Wednesday 28th January, the Labour MP for Mitcham and Morden and the Vice-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils said no measures should be taken off the table by the British Government, including possible sanctions and travel bans, if President Maithripala Sirisena’s Government fails to comply with the inquiry.

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is due to publish its war crimes report by the time of the 28th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, in March 2015. Their findings, which will focus primarily on the final years of the country’s armed conflict and its immediate aftermath -2002 to 2011, will make an assessment of possible suspects complicit in the alleged perpetration of war crimes and human rights violations in Sri Lanka. The report’s conclusions may pave the way for future criminal investigations.

McDonagh said that international pressure on the Government of Sri Lanka was vital to ensure truth, accountability and justice, given the culture of impunity on the island. Whilst welcoming the recent Presidential election victory of Mr Sirisena and the removal of the previous incumbent, Mahinda Rajapaksa, she noted that Sirisena’s new administration must be willing to reach out to minority communities, particularly Tamils and Tamil speaking Muslims, who had been so badly treated by Rajapaksa’s regime. Given the fact that the electoral support of these communities was vital to him securing the Presidency, Ms McDonagh said Maithripala Sirisena was duty bound to address their longstanding grievances – on war crimes allegations, human rights violations, political marginalisation and religious intolerance amongst other important issues.

Siobhain McDonagh, Labour’s MP for Mitcham and Morden, said: “The demise of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Government will, I hope, provide fresh impetus to address the key, unresolved issues arising from the country’s armed conflict and its aftermath.

“Sri Lanka can only be set on the path to a sustainable peace if the war crimes allegations are addressed, the culture of impunity ended, a comprehensive political settlement to the Tamil national question is negotiated and the rights and freedoms of all Sri Lanka’s citizens are afforded equal respect and protection.

“However, whilst President Sirisena’s Government has some bold plans for reform, I am deeply concerned at his unwillingness to recognise the mandate of the OHCHR investigation. The tens of thousands of Tamils who were slaughtered in the final stages of the armed conflict alone deserve justice. The British Government must uphold the values and precepts of international humanitarian and human rights law, by giving unwavering support to the OHCHR. They must ensure the Government of Sri Lanka is held to account if President Sirisena’s Government continues to snub the UN process and rejects any possible future criminal investigations.”

      You are right Nuwan.

This Lady has forgotten the Child Killer Adelle Balasingham who Trained and Commissioned the Baby Brigade.

She Garlanded Children with a Cyanide capsule necklace and sent them against a professional Army to get massacred.

The BBC has Video evidence of her doing what I have described.

Mr. Javier Aguilar of UNICEF says UNICEF has reports of 8000 missing children. He also states that this is just a Minute Fraction of the problem. If 8,000 is minute what would the whole be? At least ten times that? That makes 80,000 Tamil Children that Adelle has to account for.

Listen to this BBC documentary, “Hard Talk” where Mr. Javier Aguilar of UNICEF was interviewed by BBC correspondent Stephen Sackur (3:28 onwards).

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gXbFPoDWSI

Aguila says reports of about 8000 missing children is just a minute fraction of what went on (4:20 onwards). He also state that during the last 6 months at least 200 children per month were taken from their parents for the war effort including 9 year olds (4:38 onwards)

      Where does she live?
Surprise surprise RIGHT under Ms Siobhain McDonagh’s nose, curtsey of the British Govt.

I have shown incontrovertibly that the UNSG’s POE has exonerated the LTTE of a grave war crime namely that of using a Human Shield. I have also shown that the POE has cunningly disregarded and circumvented the ICC law on Human Shields (Rome Statute of the ICC, 17 July 1998, Article 8, War crimes (b) (xxiii) )

      (POE Report 237 https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/un-human-rights-chief-urged-to-visit-sri-lanka/comment-page-1/#comment-1756306)

I have also exposed the Dishonesty of the UNSG’s POE and the possibility of the UN Panel being Bribed by the LTTE.

Ms Siobhain McDonagh’s indifference towards the Child Killer and war criminal Adelle, who lives right under her nose, while advancing the “All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils” cause as their Vice-Chair, brings to question HER integrity too.

The LTTE tentacles seems to run very deep into the UK Parliament just like the Italian Mafia in Italy or American Mafia in USA does.

      Kind Regards,
      OTC

MP Siobhain McDonagh’s voice is for hire.

It is attractive as she speaks from her base using Houses of Parliament in London. A global centre of power. Ealamist die-ass-pora understood this long time ago.

      Cheers!

PS: New GOSL should support holding United Kingdom accountable for massive crimes in Iraq, Afganistan, Palestine and you name it. List is long.

Don’t forget the British Labor Party needs Tamil votes and funding. Never mind principles. She was not to be found her when IRA, her Irish Terror Cousins were bombing and killing civilians in the UK. I hope she can advice how to achieve reconciliation pointing to how Britain went about following their ‘glorious massacres’ of innocents in Asia, Africa and North America. Who can epitomise a swear rat better than this?

This is one woman who is bought by the LTTE lobbies in britian. Not only that she supported British invasion of Iraq and even to this day rejected any investigation into iraqi invasion. It is this woman who talks about war in SL…..

She is cuckoo..should just concentrate on affairs of her constituency that relate to life in Britain, instead of flying the flag for the former Sri Lankan terrorist supporters! What a jackass!

This British MP is a stooge of LTTE, she frequently has contacts with LTTE hardliners in her electorate, who fund her election campaign, including Adele Balasingham, whom she reports to have expressed her respect for her policies of child soldiers and the cyanide capsule. As we believe all people who practice inhuman acts against human beings or even animals, meet their untimely fate one day.

Aunty Siobhain MaDonagh (SM) your credential and leaning are very clear.
You will be surprised to know from which part of the country I come from.

Aunty SM I have a defect i have a defective finger in that One finger is longer than the two fingers on either side of it.
CAN I SHOW YOU THAT SRI LANKAN FINGER TO YOU ?
Wish you were around in Sri Lanka.

BTW, after you punish your (B)lair on Iraq matters let us know our Prez so that he too could take similar action.

Also, you must be a rich Lady. Rajapakshes had to rob the coffers of the country BUT I don’t think you got to do thatother than to just talk……..at the expense of the lives of our Youth & children.

Most of the comments above are expected from Singhalese because they think they are superior and untouchable and the standard of living in Srilanka, technical knowledge etc are superior to UK – obviously the frog in a well will think like that and it is not frog’s fault. People,People why don’t you take thinks in a positive way and act a bit more civilised. Barking dog can’t threaten Moon, it is the foolishness of the dog . Government is trying to get GSP back and to restart fish export and get many more favours from them. Don’t you think that you have to please them to get those helps from them -Modias.

yeah SInhalese are questioning a woman who wonder about SL while supporting war crimes in Iraq due to an illegal war …..that surely is because SInhalese think they are superior …..i guess nothing left to say

Senthil, Unlike you we who have commented againt a ‘KILLER’ who has blood on her hand’s. But Unlike you and her we want the LAW to be EQUAL to everyone and nation. Only then it can be called JUSTICE. But International Law Breakers and Killers such as this British MP who destroyed Iraq and Her people for generation to come said NO to investigate That Crime.

I won’t agree with the generalisation about Sinhalese. There are all sorts in any community. I personally am for justice, and have no bias for either side. However Sri Lankan affairs shouldn’t be any concern of her’s, as she is just an MP in the UK, if I’m not mistaken. She wouldn’t know much about the people of Sri Lanka and the history of this conflict, apart from whatever information that may have been fed to her over the years by certain highly questionable sources. She is in no position to form judgments on Sri Lanka. The way she has campaigned on this issue is very unusual and brings her impartiality and credibility into question

Justice for minorities for wrongs done so far, is needed.
    McDonagh is correct.
Repression still goes on in the northeast.

But this is totally ignored, even by the new regime.

Ms.Siobhain McDonagh is hacked for speaking out the truth and most of the comments are from the majority. What they, including the Govt., want is for the Tamils to put behind them , the killings or maiming
of nearly 160,000 innocent civilians, pounded with heavy artillery and
move forward, discouraging UN in their war crime investigating, while thousands and thousands of widows with young children are dangling in refugee camps in Vanni and India and the affluent fled the country,
losing their ancestral lands and properties and they all had a decent living before the war.

Let the international(OHCHR) investigations proceed and then talk after the results are out, after all it is the govt. policy is to investigate the wrong doers. TNA’s stand on this issue is watched by the Tamil people of N/E very closely. If the govt. gives protection to the people found guilty of war crimes, they will face retaliation from
International community by way of sanctions etc, which we just cannot afford and we will be back to square one with international relations.

They all rejoiced when the innocents were bombarded, even the make shift hospitals housing the injured and when it comes to UN intervention in investigating the war crimes, those who rejoiced,
become jittery. It comes to my mind what Lord Buddha preached on arrogance & killings.

    • 5
      3

All that you say happened because the Tamils were rejoicing the killing of Sinhala civilians by Tamil Terrorists. Tamils have to take the blame for the crimes inflicted on Tamils. Tamils started the WAR and lost! Lost they did in a humiliating manner. You cannot expect the World to punish Sri Lanka for Tamil barbarism and stupidity. One more thing: would Tamils have not rejoiced had they won? Get a life!

    • 2
      2

I personally am not questioning the need for an investigation or
corporating with one . But what is her agenda?
She is neither a human rights activist nor someone whose remit is
international affairs. I guess she is just bothered about her votes.
The LTTE supporters have roped in people like
her for their agitation. So she is being a mouthpiece for terrorist supporters. If she has any principles, she wouldn’t
associate with the likes of them

  • 4
    5

Yes, I agree, the British Government should support moves to hold Sri Lanka accountable. War crimes are war crimes.

However, the British people must also hold the British Government responsible for the Iraqi invasion, the continued support of Israel who horrendously continue to ethnically cleanse the region of Palestinians, for the support of the US in abducting and torturing Iraqis and Afganis, for turning a blind eye to indiscriminate killing of innocent men women and children by drones, the most public support for the mass murderer Pinochet, the former dictator of Chile – ah the list will go on and on and on and on. Crimes against humanity are crimes against humanity.

Siobhain Ann McDonagh is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Mitcham and Morden since 1997

THERE IS AN ELECTION IN THE UK IN 100 DAYS.
SHE IS PANDERING TO GET THE LARGE TAMIL VOTE IH HER CONSTITUENCY.
THERE MAY BE A GOOD CHANCE THAT SHE MAY LOSE SO SHE IS TRYING EVERYTHING TO SECURE HER STATUS.
I HAVE NEVER EVER HEARD HER CLAMOURING LIKE SHE DOES NOW TO HOLD ISRAEL ACCOUNTABLE FOR VARIOUS CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY AS WE HAVE SEEN IN THE NEAR PAST.
OF COURSE THIS IS MY HUMBLE OPINION

    Brothers,
Most of you are not agreeing with my comment, but the reality is I am with the affected party seeking justice. It is not right to receive everything and ask them to keep quiet. Everyone was quiet when UK,US, India and Others providing help to defeat LTTE, now everyone is asking them to keep quiet which is not a healthy approach. Actually they defeated LTTE not your army specially not anyone commenting above. We were punished by GOD for some unknown reason but it is your turn for the known reason – do not celebrate standing on Tamil’s sufferings.

      Brother Senthil,
All the countries you mention did not make the Army win the war , the Army won the war ,sadly for you ,we know why you say the Army did not win , most LTTE fellows like you say this to get the bitter taste of defeat out of your mouths , fine you have convinced yourselves , but you wont convince the world ,the reason for punishment is not unknown it is for killing all the innocent civilians ,and murdering and bombing villages ,buses,trains,etc.. ethnic cleansing of Muslims & Sinhalese , the mosque massacres, the mass murder & execution of 600+ surrendered police officers, during the penultimate cease fire , infact too many incidents to count , you LTTE bed fellows dont says this but yes, we know dont try to white wash that.
true what happened during the last phases of the war must be investigated but internally not because some stupid unprincipled a woman says so,who was sacked from her own party position once for opening her stupid mouth .
internal framework will sort out justice

    Brothers,

Are we human beings, follow the Buddhism?

Someone kill your family members then you will be happy of it and say not to punish the offenders. You think that your family members are safe and only Tamils are deaths then no need to inquire about these barbarisms. Really you are evils and no sense what you are talking. Who ever committed to crimes whether LTTE or MR should be charged under law….

Because of MR barbarism not only Tamils killed but also lot of our reporters were killed……….What you are going to say to their family members? At least you don’t need to give your sympathy but don’t wound them by saying futile stories.
You are real sins until this befall to your family, you never realize these consequences.

I think most of the Singhalese have been brainwashed by the media. MR & CO killed many innocent Tamils after defeated LTTE to stay in power. Army killed and jailed many innocent boys and girls after EPDP monkeys nodded their heads for no reason and hiding weapons in innocent peoples homes. Many Tamils were killed for body parts trade. Most of the bombs outside North and east were by Gotha for propaganda. Do not worry, if you sew sin, you can only harvest multiplied sin. Everything Tamils are asking is to leave them alone in a corner of the country piecefully to live, but still the army is not allowing and you people are not prepared to understand. People are suffering without water because of oil in the wells and the army is protecting the people pour oil. Most of the land in North will be under water soon because army is stealing sand from costal area. One day you might realise your sin and that day will be too late. I am not sure why I am telling to deaf people.

You must think everyone is a fool , no Sinhalese is being brainwashed except for the very few , unlike the the LTTE fanatics like yourself you brainwashed all and sundry under them including their children, yes Senthil nobody has forgotten the abducted child soldiers of the LTTE , is that also a part that was done by the “Gotha propaganda”? you except anybody will believe “gotha” was the brains behind all the suicide bombing outside N&E?Jesus you are hilarious who you are you trying to fool? do you really think anyone will believe that ? you lost any credibility you had if you had any( which i dont think you had anyway) by that stupid comment itself , don’t you realise how stupid you sound?
Now you are coming out with another new and ridiculous allegation of a body parts trade oil & al and sundry , i have to give it you LTTE bedfellows you do come out with the most ridiculous excuses to white wash your stinking back sides , the problems with your LTTE fellows is every thing is Tamil ,tamil & more Tamil and nothing else and you call the others selfish get a life !! under rajapakshe every one suffered the sinhalease ,tamil & muslim the entire population of sri lanka suffered massively under the despot , infact we are the ONLY people who understand the real situation not guys like you who want to bring the LTTE back to Sri Lanka to suite your ends, you have no real interest in the welfare of the innocent people living in the N&E what have your diaspora done for the welfare of the people of the N&E other than build hotels and put your own mangers from the diaspora community to manage them not a red cent has filtered down to the innocents through your diaspora, even foundations from the south has done much more for the people building houses and sanitation of the N&E Not you ,this is said with the utmost of responsibility .
However I only accept only one thing you say it is ” , if you sew sin, you can only harvest multiplied sin”
Absolutely true you saw this when all that happened happened forcing children to fight, using human shields ,killing your own brethren to safeguard your LTTE,using human bombs, murdering everyone who spoke against you, that’s the multiplied sin, Likewise Rajapakshe & Co will get whats coming to them , the only Deaf person here seems to be you,
nobody else, you can keep down voting this comment and everything else ,nobody cares, I wont bother to reply your sure to appear comment next please do get your LTTE frustration out , we sane people are willing to give Peace a chance with the new government so it seems the People of N&E sadly for you, Peace out Brother
