Diaspora groups are planning to rally against President Maithripala Sirisena who is due to arrive in London this evening.
The President, who is due to land at the Heathrow airport this evening at 20:00 GMT to initiate his three-day visit in the UK, will be faced with spontaneous protestors who will be expressing their solidarity with the protestors in Jaffna who took to the streets demanding justice.
“British Tamils from all over the country are due to gather before the Airport this evening, to note that although there is a change in the Sri Lankan government, the oppressive conditions in Eelam yet continue unabated.” one Tamil activist told Colombo Telegraph.
The organisers of this protest state the only diaspora group that would not be participating is the Global Tamil Forum.
President Sirisena was the acting Minister of Defence during the final two weeks of the war in Sri Lanka and therefore is bound by a command responsibility with concern to the war crimes allegations leveled at Sri Lanka including the white-flag issue. “He is a war criminal” a Tamil diaspora activist told Colombo Telegraph.
President visited UK to attend the Commonwealth Day Observances on March 9 and during his visit, he is also due to meet British Prime Minister David Cameron.

I am not trying to appease anybody here. The reality for the tamils in Sri lanka is that they have a godsend opportunity after many bleak years to get some recompence and justice from the new government in power. These stupid diaspora LTTE idiots are hell bent on sabotaging this by hurling abuse at the Sri Lankan president who has said and done more than what Rajapaksa did for them in the last five years.
Ranil is a reasonable man with views that are not at all anti tamil. I would say he is doing a big favour for the tamil fishermen of the North by being tough with the Indian poachers who are using illegal bottom-trauling nets and depleting the fish supply in the region. These Indians are trespassing into a foreign country despite repeated warnings and that warrants stiff punishment.

I stopped at Narrammala and Dankottuwe last week. But I do not use that brew anymore. When are we going to see an end to these irrational and emotional hate campaigns soon. We have paid enough and we do not have to prolong this agony any more.

I strongly condemn these elements in the Diaspora who are protesting President Sirisena’s visit. I suggest there be a spontaneous a counter demo in which people express support for the President for his actions so far, while urging continued improvement of the rights of the Tamil people in Sri Lanka.
As I noted elsewhere on CT, President Sirisena has shown a lot of maturity in handling the NPC’s genocide resolution and deserves Tamil people’s appreciation and support for him to implement his promises. He faces several hurdles from extremists within the Sinhalese community in ensuring the rights of the Tamil people, and Tamil radicals should not add further hurdles.

We have a Come back Jarapassa group in Sri Lanka and We have a separatist group abroad. The only thing they have in common is “power hungry strategy to divide the masses” for their existence. I am wondering if Jarapassa group is behind this as a strategy to tell the Sinhalese that the tiger is active and to get the Tamils refrain from voting in the upcoming Parliamentry elections. This is the same strategy used in 2005 and effort was made in the last election with Cabraal with the flyers.
I hope common sense will prevail with the Majority on both sides and rescue the helpless common man’s suffering. Vast majority want peace and not confrontation. Hats off to GTF.

If Sirisena is a war criminal why did people in the North vote for President Sirisena en-mass? In the light of the above how meaningful is this protest?
As I once commented, the LTTE had a massive financial network extorting money from the diaspora. Though the LTTE is no more the organizers abroad want to keep the network alive. First, they pledge some money and other resources for politicians in the country of adoption, in turn to adopt an anti Sri Lankan stance, enabling them to bring in more and more economic refugees in the guise of political refugees. With the additional people more money comes to the kitty of the organizers thus enjoying plush lives.
The above mentioned economic motive is the reason to say anything to malign whoever is the symbol of Sri Lanka. Next time they will find some excuse to say that even Ranil Wickramasinghe or Mangala Samaraweera a war criminal.

Thank God only 9 participated. What does this show, it shows that the push towards radical ideas are dying. Tamils and Muslims, not only in Sri Lanka but among the Diaspora as well by this action have shown that there is no more any place for those who stand in front of LTTE Tiger Flags and request international investigation and separate state. Most of the above comments are not very sympathetic or realistic – looks like forcing Tamils to become feeling-less matters. Mithiri cannot resolve even minor matters like further arrests of mainly ladies at katunayaka and north and east but you are expecting Tamils to drop every thing over night. Mithiri is a president of a country, he should not get worked up and retaliate in srilanka like MR & co (banning Tamil national anthem and banning diaspora people including dead people). Instead Mithiri is organising to meet Tamil groups in UK, he is the real leader, not acting like usual 3rd world idiots. When Mithiri gradually resolve all the burning Tamil issues like colonising Singhalese and Muslims in north, political prisoners, etc, Tamil diaspora will become a valuable asset to srilanka – need good planning and forecast for at least for the next 20 years – not act like 3rd world today only attitude. Will these Tamil diaspora ever come back and live in the Eelam if such a state is established? Clear answer is NO. What they want is to justify their stay in greener pastures by participating in these protests. Their aim or wish is not an Eelam, but just to live in such developed countries, but wants to show how their allegiance to Tamil Eelam is.
Even the majority of Sinhala diaspora shows how patriotic they are but would not come back to live here. That’s the truth.
