Buddhist Monk Criticized For Sharing Video Of Minors Imitating Sexual Act

Anti corruption front convener, Buddhist Monk Ulapane Sumangala received much criticism after he posted a website link on Facebook, which carried a video of minors in school uniform acting out sexual poses.

After he posted the web link of the video filmed in the school premises, many commentators stated that those who share these videos are also responsible for further tarnishing these kids reputation and jeopardizing their future.

Colombo Telegraph deleted the name of the school and also the web link to the video in order to prevent further distribution of this incident. (Janaka Ranaweera)

It should be highly appreciated If the politicians and there after school authorities think about cutting down this kind of act. Instead, politician may suggest opening a condom factory.

Here CT is doing simply to sling mud at the monk who talked about what is happening to Sri lankan schools.

school discipline is nil. parents come to beat teachers and control teachers. Teachers are selfish too and they are not doing their responsibility.

      they just work for money.

RE:Buddhist Monk Criticized For Sharing Video Of Minors Imitating Sexual Act

“Anti corruption front convener, Buddhist Monk Ulapane Sumangala received much criticism after he posted a website link on Facebook, which carried a video of minors in school uniform acting out sexual poses.”:

Well, well, the monks are acclimatizing the school children to sex acts, so that when the monks do the real act, they already know how.

Are the Monks wolves in sheep clothing?

Child Abuse by a Monk in Habaraduwa

    Uploaded on May 29, 2010
She sent her grandson to school with the idea of providing him with proper education to make him a good person. The Buddhist monk in charge of the temple asked her to send the child to the temple and she sent him there because they were poor. There was no possibility for them to pay the money for tuition fees. That was the reason why they sent the boy to the temple school. When the child began to refuse going to the temple school so adamantly, grandmother had to look for the reason. It was then only that she discovered that the child who was sent to learn good behavior, ethics and Buddha’s Dharma from the monk had in fact been abused by the monk.

      Idiot,

The news is about the immoral parents’ immoral children, not about the monks.

Do you think para Muslims imams are innocent angles? Google their shenanigans!! And tell your imams to stop the barbaric practice of circumcision of young children!!!!!!

It looks like John the Buddhist cannot cannot accept the fact of the matter on what has been reported, so he pivots to drag in unconnected sources (Muslim Imams) to blur the focus of attention. May I inform you our Imams get married, have children and live with dignity, whilst bearing the burden of responsibility of raising their own families and living with them in their own homes. The same cannot be said of those monks who spend their best days of their young lives in Temples and monasteries controlling their sexual feelings and urges, and faking or violating their oath of celibacy time after time. That is why they are a frustrated lot and keep salivating when they see other young students enact their erotic fantasies. Just accept the facts and say it as it is.

Habib you replied Well and truly to the comment of John the buddhist. Monks are a frustrated and castrated lot, so long as they claim to follow celibacy, which is totally false and never ever can a human control his/her body of its natural instinct of sex, never ever I can accept the monks and who ever who claims to practice celibacy is not telling the truth. Islamic Imams are doing the right things as has been envisaged in their religious book to marry. I fully agree with Habib and all what he has said is 1000% true and no denying. Therefore the buddha sasana should make it mandatory to make all monks to marry and that is the only solution that will keep the monks calm without venting their frustrations openly and to keep pedophiles/sex predator at bay if not the sexual abuses will continue unabated and many of our innocent children will be falling into the hellfire. Never ever trust the monks, celibacy is the biggest farce on the earth and a big lie. No human can ever control his/her sexual instinct. celibacy is not practicable, therefore no human can keep awake without sleeping, no human can control hunger and without eating and drinking, no human can withhold the urge to relive, as that is how the Creator Almighty Has Created and we succumb to the nature, which none of us can meddle with. Although I am born in a buddhist family, my view are totally not agreeing to what is claimed as buddhism. I do not agree to monks and the activities of the temples as I consider it a mockery of true buddhism. in true buddhism no idol worship, no monks can drinking alcohol, no eating meat, not watching pornography in their hideouts, no using loud speakers to disturb the neighbors with deafening sound of bana, which no body understand, and illuminating with so much of light and wastage of electricity. I do not subscribe to the so called pseudo buddagama.

            jim softy,

            “Muslims are not intelligent”?

Then who, according to you are intelligent? Muslims don’t hold too many .Phds, Mscs, Bscs or similar on a ratio is true. One reason they don’t become bookworms and memorize heavy, heavy books from their childhood till adulthood just with one intention to get those titles and secure a Govt office’s seat heating responsibility is very hard in a country where discrimination plays a role among majority / minority.

Instead, they adopted to become businessmen and entrepreneurs and contribute to nation’s economy in a better way on a ratio again than heating the chairs of Govt offices from 9am to 4:30pm without any productivity, or crowding the trains and public buses and contributing to polluting the environment or tarnishing the country’s image with daily work strikes.

If I were you, would recall the statement giving it a second thought and seeing the educated Muslims in comparison.

Intelligence has nothing to do with education, that too, you want to link intelligence with Sri Lankan education system? LOL

            And God bless you brother!

Ahmed L is very right. Muslims are highly intelligent in knowledge, in business, very generous towards the less fortunate ones, and they are best tax payers in Sri Lanka. I admire the Muslims and their lifestyle is fascinating. I have traveled with my father to many Muslim countries and their hospitality is unmatched. Their houses and the architecture is fascinating. I call upon the stupid Kunaqtu Jimsofty/John the buddhist/ and Muslim hate mongers to learn about its beautiful religion of Islam. For your information Muslims are the most charitable people in the world and the tag terrorist is a recent phenomena. This is a media propaganda to tarnish the image of Islam becoz now Islam is growing like a wildfires in USA/Europe. So in order to stop this huge conversion to Islam, the propagandists of Iran, and western media, portrayed the Muslims as terrorists. May I ask the following: Who started the 1st world war? ans Not Muslims. Who started the 2nd world war? Not Muslims. Who killed about 20 millions Aborigines in Australia? Not Muslims. Who send the Nuclear bomb to Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Not Muslims. Who killed more than 100 millions of native Indians in North America? Not Muslims. Who killed more than 50 millions Indians of South America? Not Muslims. Who took about 180 millions of Africans as Slaves? and 88% of them died and thrown overboard into the Atlantic? Not Muslims. Over 13000 Rohingyas were killed and babies and women were roasted alive in fire in Myanmar? Not Muslims So Muslims have nothing to do with terrorism, we have to be fair minded and sincere in our word and actions. I, being a non-muslim I still love Muslims for their marvelous human helpful nature.

            “Muslims are not intelligent”?

Al-Biruni who laid the foundation for modern trigonometry was a philosopher, geographer, astronomer, physicist and mathematician. discussed the theory of the earth rotating about its own axis six hundred years before Galileo.

Europeans were in their dark ages & didnt know how to even wash their backside when muslims were reading & writing.

              The Messenger

“Al-Biruni who laid the foundation for modern trigonometry was a philosopher, geographer, astronomer, physicist and mathematician. discussed the theory of the earth rotating about its own axis six hundred years before Galileo.”

No question, Al-Biruni was a great philosopher, mathematician, astronomer and polymath at that time, who was after knowledge, not dogma, like the Ulama, Mullahs and Imans are after.

It was Copernicus, in 1543,( not Galileo) who conclusively showed that it was the Earth that rotates on its own axis, and orbits the Sun, while some ancient Greeks, Islamic and Indian Astronomers also speculated, but did not conclusively prove that the Earth rotates on its own axis and moves around the Sun.

              The Science of al-Biruni

In the Mas’udi Canon, al-Biruni writes that the Earth is at the centre of the universe and that it has no motion of its own, as it is in the Ptolemaic system. However, in this book, he takes issue with this system on several points. “He holds, for example, that the Sun’s apogee is not fixed, and while he accepts the geocentric theory, he shows that the astronomical facts can also be explained by assuming the Earth revolves around the Sun” [15].

Then, continuing his speculation on the motion of the Earth, al-Biruni tells that he could neither prove nor disprove it, but commented it favourably [4]. It seems also that he wrote in a commentary on Indian astronomy that he resolved the matter of Earth’s motion in a work on astronomy that is no longer extant, his “Key to Astronomy”.

“Muslims are not intelligent”.. the Sinhala majority have been ruling this country for the past 69 years, and I wonder what good they have achieved during that period. Today our country is one of the most corrupt in the world, with a parliament being ruled by a Sinhala majority mob who are out their for themselves, and are again elected by the ignorant sinhalese majority.. perhaps if the Tamils, Muslims and christians ran the country for a change, we would be in a much much better place, given the fact of their good track records in starting and running businesses. Some of the key industries are dominated by minorities (pharmaceuticals, logistics, retail, leisure, telecoms, Health services and other diversified).. Like an above comment read, byhearting a book doesn’t make you intelligent.. You people lack practical and real world experience.

Roadrunner is saying Muslims are not intelligent. this shows how pathetic ignorant he is? If not for the earlier Muslim Scientists and their innovations in almost all knowledge be in medical, algebra, mathematics, aviation, astronomy, chemistry, food technology, etc and what not? The foolish pagans, idol worship folks still live like frogs in the well. Remember, the Muslims were in the forefront in knowledge and sciences when Europe was in dark, where woman could not inherit and not considered worth, Muslim Middle-East Baghdad (Babylonia) the center of learning sciences where knowledge thrived and shifted between Spain, Greek and the Muslims ruled Spain for almost a 1000 years. Go and study about Muslims before you criticize. Now the world accept Islam, in spite of negative Isamphobia, because it understood the reality of Muslim, the Monotheists, clean physically, who taught the European to use water instead of toilet paper, hygiene emphasizing in all matters thats because of Islam and its pure monotheism (That God Almighty Creator) is the Only One deserve worship and obedience, Who Created the life and the death) unto Him is the final return.

“We know, Muslim are not intelligent people.” Are the Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, Agnostics, Jews. and Atheists intelligent people?

You are describing the Current” Muslims, who are the product of 900 years of indoctrination by Mullahs, Ulama, and Theologians who claimed that Revelation was above Reason and Observations. So, the current Muslims are performing well below their Native Intelligence, for example ,the Saudi Wahhabies and their clones , as demonstrated by the Wahhabi Graduates who took the GMAT Exams.

L&V’s National IQs predict GMAT scores across 173 nations

            http://humanvarieties.org/2014/02/02/quick-post-lvs-national-iqs-predicts-gmat-scores-across-173-nations/

You are describing the effect, the cause goes back 900 years with Al-Ghazali and the Theologians.

This shows how an ideology can make a civilization go backwards.

Before that the Muslims were fine, and performed at their Native Intelligence Level and above, and contributed immensely to philosophy, Science, Astronomy, Mathematics etc. The contributions by the Muslims during the First 500 years far exceeded the contributions during the subsequent 90 years.

The question to ask is when will the Muslims reach the age of reason and enlightenment, and free themselves from the literal theologians?

The Europeans achieved that starting the 16th Century.

First of all the monks are leading an unnatural lifestyle by denying themselves the basic human instinct of sex which is the natural product of every life. Whoever who denies these rights of natural instinct will become a beast rather worst than the beast. So never send children to temples for God’s sake.

        Dear John,

        Amarasiri empathizes with your ailment.

Are you suffering from diabetes? Alzheimer’s?

Anyway, diabetes is reversible. Stop eating sugar, sucrose, and talking high fructose corp syrup containing foods, like soft drinks and cakes, and even stop eating bread, and stop taking the Monks on your back.

The primary cause is fructose and too much fat in your liver, and lack of exercise. When you take the monk on your back, it is exercise for the monk, not for you.

        Rising diabetes in Sri Lanka

One in five adults has either diabetes or pre-diabetes and one-third of those with diabetes are undiagnosed, reveals one of the first nation-wide studies to be conducted in Sri Lanka. This has startling implications for the spread of the disease here.

Diabetes can adversely affect almost every organ in your body – from your brain cells to your liver. Responsible for a staggering number of amputations, diabetes has also been known to lead to impaired vision and heart attacks. It’s a frightening disease, made even more so by the fact that its incidence in Sri Lanka seems to be increasing.

Mr. AMARASIRI, hAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE Pansala Sellama?

What you have quoted is not the only incident reported in the press. There was this case of a young boy found dead the day after he was ordained. The case was hushed up-APE HAMUDURUWO syndrome. Recently the papers reported the case of a young boy abused at a temple at the Matara end of the Highway. The boy had been admitted to the hospital and discharged in order to cover up the sodomisation. Since the boy developed further problems he was admitted again and three monks and civilian teacher were arrested.

      Yes.

There are so many cases, cannot keep track. What happened to the Vinaya pitaka, the rules and regulations of the order of Bhikkhus (monks) and Bhikkuni(nuns)?

This is where Sinhala “Buddhism”, Sinhala “Buddhist” differs from Pristine Buddhism as enunciated by Buddha and his teachings.

Looks like, the Vinaya, Rules, of the current monks, is to have the saffron robe, and t go primarily after little boys, and the villages, ignore the excesses of the APE- HAMUDURUWO, and the monks are rarely prosecuted. unless there s a death.

This is a highly irresponsible action by a priest. What he should have done is reached the students and adviced them .The present generation can not be reprimanded, it will only lead them to rebel ,today the young are far intelligent . It is sad that the young lot have been scandalized. Spreading rumours, slanders and scandalizing have today become a very Sri Lankan past time. The Priest has a duty upon him not to broadcast such incidents, taking into consideration with the high rate of suicide in the county. And with due respect Amerasiri it is highly uncalled to drag the Scandals of Other monks here. This is chalk and cheese. You should be a gentleman and only touch the subject concerned. It is neither manly nor Heroism to hit anyone below the belt. Thank you CT for deleting the name of the School and the link ,very ethical journalism. Would appreciate if you could blur the faces of the students too. Bless all at CT. One need to be parents to understand the hurt the parents of these kids are going to feel. The FB is handle by people who do not understand the gravity of the contents they share. I know this kind of things and even worse things happened even 45 years ago. Everybody knows that.

Unfortunate thing is School teachers are blind to that. On the other hand, kids getting sexually active can not be stopped. IF they want it they get it some where.

Just exposing the monk in a negative way, just christian work. It should be seen as something positive and should build on that.

but, how do you stop it completely ?

May be give sex education and teach them the negative side.

    • 6

How do you stop it completely? By separating boys and girls schools into two separate units and enforcing strict discipline on adhering to trespassing laws. In an undisciplined environment, you cannot expect growing up kids who are discovering the ecstasy of attaining puberty to hide their true feelings when they are allowed to freely mix together, and thereby enact their erotic fantasies under the guise of innocent mischief. It is like taking/placing cotton wool close to a flame. It is bound to get consumed in an instant. It is not at all surprising you guys have not figured that one yet, since every other rudimentary social behaviors are even worse. But you are always ready to tear up other faiths on their customs and practices, when your own house is in shambles.

“It is like taking/placing cotton wool close to a flame. It is bound to get consumed in an instant. “

You are correct here.It is like bringing and oxidant and redundant, close to each other before you are ready to start the reaction, or firing.

Let the boys and girls mix when they are adults after age 18, in the university, or at other places of study, work or social events. By then, they would have been more responsible, the hormone surges behind them, and able to vote for politicians, however stupid or crooks they are, as well.

While co-education has its advantages, it is a distraction for both boys and girls, until they grow yo to be adults.

CT you publishing it in a very responsible manner is well appreciated it seems the monkies who frequently abuse the Facebook to spread mischief, lies, slander, and destroy peoples lives are upset& some use people’s real names as pseudonyms to tarnish the innocent are all upset, soon they will pay once the government’s Internet Brigade comes into full operation, if the government does not do it- it will be a mess.

The problem is with phone shops open till- late 11 pm selling cheap smart phones&internet providers selling cheap services on waysides of roads and pavements offering free sims, both have turned some-like monkies with shaving razors.

Please keep up the good work CT -you are appreciated, I hope you will take initiative to expose also those who unjustly slander the innocents on The FB.

I saw the video. It was merely a couple of children trying to act like what they see on TV of what American teens do in schools. They all looked so innocent and were trying hard to fall into the act, but had no idea or will of how to do so. In fact, the girls looked terribly traumatized, knowing that it was not their natural way.

        old codger,

Well, they must be sick of all the bogus and pretentious attitudes they see everyday. In the end, all they did was to look a bit naughty in a get-me-if-you-can attitude. Buddhist priest knows that they were getting one up on him by that, and that is more irritating to him than if some true fornication took place.

@Shan -is it so ? this and your intentions are exposed by God, while CT took the responsibility and ethically deleted The Video link ,he fahim the imposter, tried a fast one to publish it on his comment, so who is the real culprit with a sick heart?your beloved group associate or CT?

It is black on white here..

I am confused. What is everybody (CT included) complaining about?
1.Are the children engaging in sexual activity? No
2.What are they doing, when you look closer? Practising ballroom dancing
3.Is ballroom dancing bad? Only in this country.
The monk has blown this out of all proportion, and CT unfortunately adds to it.
It is probably a practice session for some event. Why not ask the school concerned. Do not add to the hypocritical narrow-mindedness that is current in this country.

Doing this during school hours was wrong and they should be disciplined but this matter should be confined to the school and the families of the students. Everyone else can mind their own business.

Why the **** is this robed fellow posting sexual stuff especially involving children on his facebook page? If any of those girls commits suicide everyone giving this incident publicity is responsible including this robed fellow.

Teenagers, especially in mixed-schools will inevitably engage in this kind of behavior.

I’ll be very blunt. The reason so many men are complaining about this is because they couldn’t do this during their school days.

      Thanos,

“I’ll be very blunt. The reason so many men are complaining about this is because they couldn’t do this during their school days. “
Very well said. Let’s end this hypocritical “morality” campaign.

Oh my see how concerned our monks are that they are compelled to share an isolated incident with the whole world. This is how they protect the reputation of the sinhala Buddhists, while riding their high horses (or should i say mercedes, bmw etc.).

Good job ape hamduruwo now the reputation of these kids are ruined for good especially in a society which your ilk created that never forgets or forgives incidents like this. Truly our monks are an inspiration and these hamuduruwos will save the country from all (imaginery) threats.

In a rotten country with rotten people and rotten religions nobody has the right to point the finger at another and claim ‘i am holier than tho’. But thats exactly what these monks are doing (bbs sinhale etc. Included), they claim to be the most pious but are infact the dirtiest and violent people you can find in society. Its high time to stop giving political and legal prominence to monks and put them in their rightful place!

This monk exposed what happened in this school. Why kill the messenger? It is moronic to write condemning this monk. Why? Monks can’t expose unacceptable social behavior? Who writes condemning this monk are plain morons!

The Monk should have contacted relevant authorties or political leadership or religious leadership rather than putting in his facebook. Some minors do wrong things when they are young and they cannot understand what is right and what is wrong and not all the minors do the same. This is going for years and years. The Monk has a responsibility on the future of youg generation. The Monk should have exposed those who corrupt our nation, politicians misuse their power and high level sex among high class people.

        ajit
Are you living in the 17th century? Why should any one trust any leadership for that matter? What is wrong with the Monk doing it by himself?
If you don’t agree explain with specific reasons why a monk/priest/an elderly or any private person should not publicize this kind of unacceptable social behavior.

      Eusense,
This monk introduces himself on his facebook page as ” Single male, interested in males and females”. Do you think he has any right to preach morality?

        Old codger
Does this article talk about how the monk introduce himself in his Face Book? From where did you find this additional information? Even if he is a sex maniac who has the authority to ban him from publicizing unacceptable social behavior?? Please Explain

          Eusense,
” From where did you find this additional information? Even if he is a sex maniac who has the authority to ban him”
It is on his FB page. I don’t object to him being a sex maniac. All of us are sex maniacs to a degree even though we try to cover it up. Otherwise we wouldn’t exist, would we? What I object to is hypocrisy.

I guess there is no fault in a monk bringing up these issues as long as the identity or those involved are withheld.

Ulapane Sumangala has done a heinous crime sharing it on Facebook. He has spoiled the entire future of those children. Those children not matured enough to have a logical reasoning what they are doing. That is duty of responsible adults to correct them when ever they are going out of the track. As a responsible character he should have thought twice before posting this on social websites. Why don’t he see sex slaves and child abusing in temples.

    Well said Vipula.

Th rev.? I wonder if I should?

Monk has abused the privacy of these children and is subject to be sued.

It is none of his business to spread this and scandlize and ruin thier lives.

The parents of these children or activists and advocates must take legal action, so in future not just monks ,no-one will dare to prey on not just children but anyone’s private life, it is also disgustig when people sterotype Buddhist Monks using other monks misconducts , how does then that becomes any different from islamaphobia ?

    Is that not buddhistphobia?

This conoutry stinks with people filled with nothing but hatred ,jealousy and the love of spreading scandles and destroying others , am sure Karma will visit such people soon, and a double amen for that.

Those of you who relish at others scandals and cuase them pain do not complain when it visits you and your household ,amen…..

The social media is not the platform to teach morals or expected norms in the context of culture is my contention for our society is much more discreet ..May be the Venerable Monk should have gone to this school or the educational authorities and had a good debate on how and when we teach our young adults responsible behaviour and respect to each other …So publicity on the Social media is rather counter productive and just invite abuse from the so called do gooders and from the comments I am confused on how the debate has veered onto ethnicity and the religion of the youth where is the sincerity of helping the adolescents to get over this difficult period of their life of puberty and learning from the media explicit presentations ..Lets get back to the question at hand .This day and age there is so much of camera use and Social Media presentation .Some time back school kids were caught enacting sex scenes for the camera just for FB posts in a western country despite a different attitude by the Parents and educators ..Lets look at this in a more realistic fashion and help the youth to live in a society of confused expectations and aspirations .
