The Cabinet has approved a proposal to build a new armory in Anuradhapura, following the armory disaster in Salawa recently.
According to the proposal, the proposed armory will be built as per international standards and will not be located in a highly residential area unlike the Salawa armory, which was located in a highly residential area in Kosgama.
The armory will be built in an area called Oyamaduwa. Following the fire at the Salawa armory in June, the loss was reported to be over Rs. 5 billion.
