Former president Chandrika Kumaratunga in a clear reference to incumbent president Maithripala Sirisena declared that the country needs leaders with backbones.
Speaking at an event in Veyangoda, the former president, said that there should be a philosophy for the rulers to develop the country, a clear programme and leaders who have the backbone to implement it.
Sources close to her told Colombo Telegraph that she was referring to Maithripala Sirisena.
These comments come in the wake of a SLFP Central Committee meeting where Kumaratunga came in for a lot of flak. Kumaratunga expressed opposition to a proposal for the party to form an alliance with the Joint Opposition (JO) to contest the forthcoming local government elections, asking how the party could work with rogues. The question was then posed to her whether there were no rogues during her tenure as President.
Kumaratunga was instrumental in persuading Sirisena to contest the 2015 presidential election as the ‘common candidate’ and at the time claimed that Sirisena was the only person in the Mahinda Rajapaksa cabinet who was not corrupt. Kumaratunga did not reiterate this claim when Sirisena gave cabinet portfolios to several ministers of the Rajapaksa cabinet and neither did she raise objection.

Chandrika we are an unfortunate cursed nation taken for rides by many power hungry corrupt politicians.Sad to say you are also one of them.We very well remember how you promised to abolish executive presidency and how you shamelessly tried to cling on to that trying all sorts of tricks .People do remember the past.When you had power for a decade if you had the vision of a straight forward leader who can take the country forward with wisdom and backbone we would not have faced the situation today.Hindsight is brilliant isn’t it.However I spent my youth during your tenure and I have some respect to you as you ruled the country along democratic means as much as possible though there were few unpleasant issues. The present situation is precarious and due to the spineless incompetence of present regime Rajapakse rogues are raising their heads again .Their victory at a future election seems inevitable and most of the people who worked tirelessly to bring end to reajspakse regime are worried about this development .When Sirisena appointed electorally rejected crooks from the national list to parliament turning his backside to the progressive movement brought him to power, we knew his journey will be a slippery slope. He has over and over proven our doubts correct by many of his subsequent deeds.He is not the man for the job sadly. We as the entire nation is on a dangerous slippery slope and unfortunately cannot think of any one who has the guts to stand against this tide to protect us and the entire country which is going to be under the whims and fancies of rogues and murderers again sadly.

What the media reported was that CBK has been asked at the meeting whether SLFP is now cohabiting with much bigger rogues than the previous regime. A question has been raised as to what is wrong with associating previous rogues if SLFP can associate with much bigger rogues now. Apparently CBK didn’t have an answer……………Of course CBK hasn’t mentioned anything about allegations came out of Australian Federal Police investigation related to Snowy River Hydro company bribing case linking Sirisena and consequent UN blacklisting that company for bribing governments of developing countries for large projects.

The Nobel politicos are not that enjoy “UNP-democracy” hence as well as SLFP?
I do agreed that SLFP played progressive role of politics since 1956 by expanding sphere of democracy and deepen the rights of People were which are better than UNP line colonial mentality…..from 1948.
In fact SLFP has not completed role of driving forces of Democratic revolution and its tasks until up to now days
It is obvious fact that SLFP leadership which including SWRD and SRB was spineless. That not individual weakness, it was nature of their class of national bourgeois. What about CBK? She too belongs that category .
She also want to Tamil federalist ,that divided an Island on racial basis, for the ” Tamil homeland” in north-eastern provinces. .Ongoing “New”Constitutional changes which CBK advocated for “Tamil Homeland” by name of by “Federals” type state…….administration.
History has shown that SWRD, since 1929 advocated for “Federal State for Tamils”. There is reasons for that Banadarake’s (SWRD’s) were decedents from Tamil -origin. Such Tamil blood group of relationship of SWRD has been inherited by CBK-Federalism. The political class who were behind that division of Island is more or less which wanted to eradication of an Island unitary character of nation state; other factor is the aim of Tamils chauvinist wanted to eliminated 2600 years of civilization by blessing of Tamil-terrorist of LTTE Diasporas back by TNA.
The changes of New era has demand strong Nation State for Capitalist sustainability of development and Democracy in Island . We rejected at the Road map of partition island for “Tamil homeland” is totally outdated of so-called is unsuited sustainability of the democracy.
