CBK-Ranil Meet Amid Press Glare

Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga held talks with Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe on the ongoing attacks on religious minorities today (11).

Kumaratunga’s think tank, SAPRI handed over recommendations it had drafted on how resolve religious tensions following an interfaith dialogue and forum it had organised to the UNP Delegation led by Wickremesinghe.

The meeting that was held at the UNP Leader’s office in Jawatte, Colombo, was mobbed by journalists and photographers eager to get soundbytes from the former head of state, amid speculation that she may be contemplating a return to active politics.

“Nothing political was discussed,” Kumaratunga told reporters soon after the discussion.

She said that although she had sought a meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa and several ministers, she was yet to be granted audience.

It would be a stupid move of CKB if she really thought of meeting
    MR or acolytes

This woman is the one who destroyed RW’s political life. Pl dont give her any prominent place in this society. RW shouldnt have met her at any cost.

Agree. Corrupt Ex President is fishing in troubled waters.

We might be able to mount a formidable challenge at the Presidential polls to oust current corrupt clan in power. With this woman running against the King.

But, that is all. Once this woman is sitting on current corrupt King’s seat, it will be business as usual.

Have no illusions about it. Nothing much will change in our country.

It is indeed a crying shame in a nation of 20 million literate people, some of whom have reached global excellence in their chosen fields, we are unable to find a decent citizen that we can trust, to steer Sri Lanka forward.

        Cheers!

No it won’t be business as usual. She is another one who does not know how to pick sides.
          1) She will most probably open up the army for international investigations.
          2) She will kick out the chinese and start to go after west.
          3) She will start devolution talks with TNA. Wigneshwaren would take her for a nice ride.
          4) She would reestablish some form of judicial independence and democracy. It is simply unfair to accuse her as a tyrant when we had leaders like JR, RP and MR.

CBK and NOT Sobitha should be the joint opposition candidate.. sworn to abolish the Executive Presidency.

Before she is made joint opposition candidate CBK should be made to sign a public oath /agreement with the joint opposition parties that abolition of the Presidency will be her first action once elected for a third presidential term.

The public should see this oath and if CBK fails to abolish the presidency once elected there will be protests…

So after she abolishes the presidency (not that she can win) what is her role? Give the newly created prime minister position to Ranil and leave? If no will Ranil agree to work under her as a minister?

You should have seen it – these very same buggers did not even allow her to speak in the parliament. You talk about abolishing it ???ß::: Be conscious ? It was even worst than the case hearing of Dr.SB in the parliment calling her thoththabaa… i cant even imagine, how CBK to have governed the country for 11 years getting on with snake sort of uncivilized lanken politicians. Most of them torn off those report in the parliament not standing her by with that.

“Before she is made joint opposition candidate CBK should be made to sign a public oath “

CBK would not know the difference between oaths and oats.

I trust, she would do so, but you would never even expect the same from a man like MR, because MR is a tyrant. Even RW would agree with anything before all kind of transparency – in today´s context.
I only want RW to lead the country by winning the chance. CBK did a great service in terms of getting banned the ltters across teh globe But those who still support CBK within UPFTA will NEED to work with RW for a good governance.

Highly corrupted man – thug, stiky buffaloe must be removed by every means safeguarding people ´s democratic rights. All his assets should be taken to the state. All his crimes should be investigated. Mervin´s shold be taken to state. From that money, it will be easy to make a pay hike for the poor.
Tsunami embezzler has become most currpted to this day, but people tolerate… because they know nothing about the reality.

Any promise given by this woman written or oral is totally worthless.

If she is corrupt, you may find no words to describe the gravity of financial corruption -MR which economists say is unestimable to this day. Arjuna Ranathunga questioned why freely telecasts of cricket commentries by SLTV was annulled and the contracts were passed on to Charlton ?…. there none of the ministers gave constructive reasons ??ß

You people should finally see it and try to help Ranil through Chandrika would be the only option to find way for peaceful future.

There are still significant numbers within UPFTA would suppport CBK. Very same fraction together with UNPers could build up a new coalition that the majority would support. Chandrika has not menitioned a word about her coming back to power. Nor has any such intentions. But as JVPers made it clear – only Rajapakshe would want to do whatever to grab power not CBK AND RANIL.

This is a good platform and theme for CBK to launch her 3rd bid to be President of Sri Lanka.

Hopefully she will be older and WISER and a BETTER PERSON when she takes her oaths as President of Lanka for the 3rd time after defeating the Corrupt and Criminal Mahinda Rajapaksa military dictatorship of uneducated morons.

We can but hope that an older and wiser CBK will work with honesty and integrity in her 3rd term as PRESIDENT OF SRI LANKA this time around!

See how out of reality the anti MR crowds are? Dreaming about beating MR using a monk and now using CBK! MR can only be defeated by a true UNP leader, until the UNP is revived bringing in common candidates will only result in UNP eroding further and further.

If Ranil is willing to be remote controlled by Mangala, the CBK confidant, if he can side with the same forces that called a boycott in presidential elections to defeat him why not her? Stop trying to protect Ranil, he simply does not know how to pick sides.

Agree. Yet, its better to join hands with Bandit Queen to fool the public in order to kick these rogue rascals out of power once and for all since there is no other way. Whatever said and done SLFP fools still worship Banda the destroyer’s name.
RW has to be cunning and tricky, must use her and get the seat first. Then he will show that he is JR’s nephew.
Having said that CBK is not as that bad as Medamoolana Veddhos.

She is making the right moves , she and Ranil definitely still have some respect among the international community ,she seem sincere trying do repair TO the Unwarranted damage that was done by JHU using BBS , this is the real truth , and this also may be Sri Lanka’s last chance to save face .

But we are still to see if JHU is still going to be around and if people are still stupid enough to vote for them then you can be sure to the type of people who get voted in what type of a country is being slowly structured for an eternal disaster , and what kind of people are now becoming the future nation of sri Lanka, either they get out of their hallucination of racism and move forward or dive deep down to the bottomless pit, still the racism is quiet active ,if things get diluted at the UN and then there will be a very heavy handed activity by the JHU ,jointly with Ravaya ,BBS and of cause with the full
blessings of Faizer Mustafa .Mohamed Mussamil & Wimal weeranwanse and Of-cause Azwar.

But If The President and the Ministers do accpet the meeting with Chandrika ,you can be sure of a big change in policies and racial attitude.. it is do or die for Sri Lanka.

I am sure given the thought the majority of The educated , cream of The Sinhalese Buddhist would not want the world to compare them with Myanmar ruthless low bread Indochinese barbarians ,just because they share the same faith which the Myanmar buffoons have totally disgraced and made it a living Joke and and also turned it to the most fearful and violent ,merciless religion beyond all other schisms.

Today when you talk of Theravada ,one can only link it with the brutal Killings of The Burmese Muslims- same as what God forsaken Taliban(DEOBANDISM AKA THABLIGUE THAMJATH) and Al_Qaeda (WAHABISM AKA AK SALAFISM MORE PROPERLY RECENTLY renamed AS AHEL BAITHUL IBNU SAUD UL ISLAM ( THE ISLAM OF THE THE HOUSE OS THE SONS OF AL-SAUD )

    =======================================================================
note: “According to Deoband Ulama, Tableeghi Jamat is a true Jam-at which is following the maslak of Deoband.

    “Saudism END Wahhabism,”

The Wahhabi religious movement is a fundamentalist Islamic order that advocates a strict interpretation of the teachings in the Qur’an, the holy book of Islam. Adherents of this movement do not refer to themselves as “Wahhabis” because it is a reference to the founder of the movement Muhammad ibn Abd al Wahhab, and they do not want others to view them as venerating a specific person over God (Allah in Arabic). Rather, they often refer to themselves as Salafis, “followers of the forefathers,” The Wahhabi movement is the dominant form of Islam in Saudi Arabia. but now it is more accepted as Saudism which also some what refers to the same meaning as followers of the forefathers .

    ================================================================

In a Nut shell this is what has happen to all religions, if one studies with an open mind and takes pain ,you will be shocked to see how much every single religion on this planet has been systematically hijacked ,manipulated, interpolated with such fabrications of myths ,lies ,hate ,prejudice, superstitions , by rulers with the support of corrupt religious scholars ,priests & political goons .

u know even if we weere at the heights of war during her terms, I never felt the way it is with rule of law has been fallen to the appalling levels as it is today ? WHY IS THAT ?

Even cost of living was not rocketed to the manner many would suffer as it is the case today. She managed to run the war while addressing other issues too.

Today, they the bunch in power are over corrupted. Srilanken airline bring nothing to the country. To that time, she brought huge sums of income – though people got it wrong that airline was given to Emirates. Today, over 4 biliions of more are the debts only for that company.. It was just the wrong propaganda made it like that she was corrupted – very same people to stay mum today,
looking at MR´s open efforts fatting his pockets… why is this double standardness ? Was it because CBK was a female leader ?
Tsunami embesszelment was a truth – people are aware of that.
I know many contries to donate for lanka was the foreign policy of CBK then. Even former president CLINTON made it clear that foreign policy of CBK was much better then and the way how his terms got LTTE banned on all powerful soils should be appreicable.
All in all, EP was not abolished, but it was not easy for her to do so because of the fact the very same culprits stood on the otherside in her terms.

Sri Lanka is one of very few countries that has all major religions been practiced with a substantial percentage of followers for each religion. So called best democracies has one major religion been practiced and most have only two.

Problem with our country is that people are too much religious including minorities. I would really be surprised if there was zero tension between religious groups.

Will they concentrate only on attacks against minority religions or would they also address some religious sects receiving millions of dollars with aggressive religious conversion agendas?

She is a thoroughly corrupt woman. There should be no way opened for her comeback. When Rajapakse is spoken of as a war criminal, what about CK. She is in the line of Presidents who did everything to scuttle any possibility of peace in the country. Ranil did seek peace and had a door open. CK closed it tight. It is best that Ranil avoids this poisonous woman who is the progeny of two people who brought untold misery to the country and profited from ethnic and religious chauvinism. We must look to new people and new leadership if we are to progress. Why are the Sinhalese are still caught up with the same crooks? There is so much of evidence in legal documents of the corruption under CK. She must answer these charges first before the criminal courts before she can be allowed to emerge again in politics.

Bring her son “Liberator” on to the politacal arena, if sattelite wins the next Presidential election and revive the Bandaranayaka legend.

Or sattelite may thinking that if I win again I can revitalise my desires and enjoy life again with a new star by spending time [wasting tax payers money] in Paris hotels, or By the Nile river in Egypt.

This is what CBK had shared with international press 2 years ago

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swbtm1R3gzA

Why should India feel against us today – as one who stood by in defeating PRABAKARAN and LTTE terror in 2009:

CBK is right saying something should have happened by the moves of MR administration…. this message is very important

    • 2
      1

Your slavish mindset just amazes me. India even refused to sell us weapons during the war and we had to go through Pakistan to purchase weapons. Let’s put that aside for a moment, Should we be always worrying about India getting upset or USA or UK getting upset and stop pursuing our internal interests? Remember that we have never engaged in destabilizing or meddling in affairs of foreign countries. If they get upset when we progress or when we chose China as a commercial partner, it is not our problem, it is their problem.

      • 2
        1

So your broaded mindset seems to have got twisted leaving no room for the facts

        a) Did not India stand by MR regime in the tail end of the war against LTTE terror ?

        b) Di not US stand by MR regime with all intelligence tactics to eliminate LTTErs ?

        c) Why the great silence of US govt not interviewing Shravendra Silva to this day ?

        d) India´s concerns are undrestandable looking at the manner MR administration treated his own folks in the post war episodes. U please leave a side war crimes and the alleged issues, now focus on the issues in the post war era – have MR regime succeeded them at all ?

e)China or other countries if they stood MR regime, it was becuase of the previous regimes… the cordial relations they made caused MR to harvest.. but China has made it clear that MR should respect HR issues…

        • 2
          2

Don’t talk nonsense. We could have finished off the terrorists in 1983 if not India threatened to invade us and somehow forced us to devolve power to the insurgents.

What US and other western countries lectured us was that LTTE was unbeatable militarily and we should somehow solve an ethnic issue that we seem to had. Are you an amnesiac to forget such recent incidents? Remember we had to send Solheim home? Was he also here to “stand by MR”? or to force us into negotiations?

Let’s put that aside, Sri Lanka was never an aggressive nation towards outside like regional powers like India and world powers. We can’t stop pursuing our own internal interests just because powerful nations get upset.

          • 2
            1

No need to make it mixed up in this way ?

Did not US support MR regime or not ?

Did not India support MR regime in the war end or not ?

Wissie wassie we could exchange in this way, but facts are facts.

Ours is made to be like Myanamr, Northkorea, Syria and several other arab states – by current stupid adminstration.

For that alone, people must punish the man and his bunch sending him home dawning a new era.
Only an educated leader give life a lifeless, tired nation.
Enough is enough – MR is the wrong person to lead a nation whose literacy rates are comparably similar to those of Germany, Singapore and the like Eu countries.

Europe´s richest nation-Germany ´s 83 million population has gotten 4 mio illiterate people. Ours being 1.5mio as illerates –

So people should come forward and change their minds for the betterment of the NATION.

How come you seem to have gotten some conscience ?

This is a balancing act :)

Now people should be intelligent in voting anyone into power.

I listened to Rathuira program ysterday on youtube and felt myself – how rulers argue

if ask about high corruption issues without calling for tenders are being responded
as ” you also did it in your term, why to worry about that “.

Is this the basis of today´s politicians, so everyone of us should be clear – that nothing go right on this land.

Very same minister who raised a big voice above others to say –
that Eknaligoda is living in France, says nothign to this day to the victimised family of 2 young teenage kids that have lost theeir life somewhever without having a father to guide them.
It was just blatant lies to divert the attetnion of the people. No matter lies are crimes – just go on ( ohoma yang). These are thakkadiya tactics. Mahinda Rajapakshe is most brutal uncivilized leader that the country ever produced.
These days by going to open every toiletting issue to get drawn the attention from media, he has been wasting uncountable sums of transport costs. No matter, people ´s grievance are lagged somewhere, that man should enjoy his life, his family and his shannigans.

Moreover today we read that state´s respresentatives of all abusive forms -Mervin the filthy mouth dares to threaten country´s minister of justice the consequences of Hakkeem would be similar to those of Prabakaran.

Can you imagine people.. wake up.. we need to dowhatever we could to remove this destructive administration within shorter period of time.

            Liberal One

“We could have finished off the terrorists in 1983 if not India threatened to invade us”

Stupid one, India did invade this island.

“and somehow forced us to devolve power to the insurgents.”

You mean all nine provinces were peopled by insurgents.

“We can’t stop pursuing our own internal interests just because powerful nations get upset.”

That is not the only reason.

The island has been ruled by racist governments, the stupid Sinhala/Buddhists time and again voted for most racists parties and politicians, the state has been built on racist policies, the institutions have been practicing proactive racist policies, ………………….

Above all stupid people deserve stupid leaders which makes this island vulnerable to foreign intervention.

You don’t need any other reason, you yourself is the reason for your self destruction.

So long we are a member of IC, we have to consider international views too. Interdependence is unavoidable to poor states such as ours. But stupid mind sets similar to that of your incumbent will not ruin the nation but also sell it to China. Ask them to make aware the nation with facts andfigures of the progress made while boasting them again and again. People are not stupid as the leader has been. They will show their voice in the days to come. I have no doubt, at least good signs will be sent by the people in the coming elections. JVPers make all good efforts to reach every houshold to pass the message. SO do the UNPers too.

“Interfaith dialogue and forums”???? What is she (CBK) talking?? When one religious community (say community “A”) attacks another religious community (say community “B”) and community “B” retaliate, then you need a dialogue and forum to resolve the conflict. BUT HERE, it is the ROWDY Buddhist monks (like the Buddhist Bull Shit – BBS rowdy monks) who are on the attack of other minority religions. How can a ‘dialogue’ can help here and a dialogue with whom?

I,am shocked to see how old ranil looks. It seems the last few years have taken their toll on him.5 years ago he should have resigned the leadership, had a good rest and come back when his sucessors have failed to disloge mahinda.Instead the greedy bugger hung on and fought and fought to keep the leadership and has wasted away in body and spirit.

CBK of course seems to have concealed a cannon or something in her lower undergarments. What with all this violence and coming from peaceful UK,i don’t blame her for having the latest lightest RPG at the ready.her charming smile is still there and that is what is most important.

Shankar, It’s nothing but VH09 camera hidden in her lower undergarment this time. And the battery pack further down.

Noel, camera is a small thing that can be tucked inside her home grown handbag. This something bigger because it is bulging a lot.

I suspect a huge sprayer of toxic chemicals,in fact a chemical weapon, which she can operate with devastating effect when she lifts the saree and operates the pump.

    Both Shanker and Noel Jones,

You both are nothing but sex perverts.

Madam Chandrika is well respected and admired around the world even todate.

She was never a Tsunami Alibaba or Mr. 10% commission Kakka, or Cocain and Ethenol and Kasippu Importer.

You both may be not even deserve to clean her slippers.

Please give respect to deserving people.

We need her badly now to save our country from the ruling Alibaba and his Great Gang.

and then give the once proposed ISGA to sampanthan? So a good portion of 70 million odd tamils can come and settle in the “tamil homeland”? How convenient!

Saman, Don’t come to preach me about your Madam. At least read Victor Ivon’s book “Chavura Rajina”. It is better clean a slippers than kissing ass.

This book has no value to this day becuase it was MR´s tactics to come to power.

Very same VIKTOR to stay mum today is the legitimate question.

Or he is already in comma ?

Chaura Rajina would have worked with UNHRC much better than the fool in power. That is crystal clear to every right thinking one.

Shanker, Noel, so delightfully perverse. Saman, CBK was no angel. There were too many instances of corruption during her regime attributed to officials in her circle. It is a matter of inference she had her cut. She was too close to the perpetrators. In some cases, there were pronouncements by courts about these misdeeds.

Every leader has failed to do as promised. But today´s levels of crimes directly guided by current president have reached beyond all margins.
He has been doing it delieberatly, without shame by not implementing 17 Amd to the constitution. UNP `s voice is made no powerful within the created unlawful background in the country today. Everything is well planned leaving no recourse for litigation. Govt even today admits impeachment against Dr. SB (former CJ) was legal, while opposition and IC still contradict it.So all is done in favour of the brutal regime.

One thing should be clear many today is – CBK was thousand times better than MR. TODAY THINGS SEEN PALATABLE FOR MR BECAUSE OF HIS MEDIA EVENTS THAT ONLY PUBLISH IN FAVOUR OF THEM. SARATH FONSEKA IS MADE FROM HERO TO ZERO BY THEIR MEDIA TACTICS. THIS IS A CURSEFUL SITUAITON ACTUALLY. If CBK´s terms did not do the job well in terms of getting LTTEers banned on rich soils around the globe, nothing like would have been worked for MR regime to cruss ltters in that way.
One good JVP canddidte made it very clear – that claimed war victory of MR regime is similar to the tail end runners of the relay races.

How would peole get all these and grasp the reality if they only hear about one side ?

Was the lanken civil war started in 2005 ?

Very same adminsitration that anhiliated terror in the nothern soils, has now beocme to the levels that they cant even maintain local crimes that are on a rise today. They have failed to work on drug trafficking. Nor have them made clear progress against killings, abductions, and all burdens that people could live peacefully.

It is said that President ´s maintainance costs have become uncountable sums to this day. WHy cant he send ministers to open those school labs or thelike. In that way he could save millions a day – then billions per year. With that sums, he could have done MORE to the poor. – like enabling them pay hikes for example.

You are dead right. At the time, we worked hard to send every cent to the sake of tsunami victims, people from Texas were proud of our then president. Clinton made very clear CBK was very intelligent to manage the issue. And across the globe internaitonal relations were well shaped. ALone EU countries donated multi sums. Each of us over here did our best inthat regard, but whether all that were used for ones who were really in need the question we still raise to this day.

“Each of us over here did our best inthat regard, but whether all that were used for ones who were really in need the question we still raise to this day.”

You should ask MR about tsunami aid gone missing.

Even better if you ask him to appoint a LLRC to investigate missing funds.

What all who have commented above have failed to notice is Ranil’s magnanimity of stretching his hand of friendship without any remorse to CBK after all what she did to him, unseating RW from a legally elected govt. That is Statesmanship.

Unseating Ranil was part of Hindian machination.

gamini, nothing to do with statemanship. He wants CBK to contest as the common opposition candidate so that the SLFP will be split.

CBK is equally shrewd.Wonder whether she is just playing with him like a rat sniffing the cheese in the trap without eating in order for mahinda to treat her people, the old SLFP better. Applying a little bit of blackmail on mahinda to wring something out of him.Ultimately she may not contest,so ranil better get her to confirm her candidacy fast without playing games, otherwise he will be left high and dry when there is a snap election called.Don’t you think it is strange that ranil always is looking for someone else to contest mahinda, yet wants to be the leader of the UNP?UNP is the largest opposition party and if the leader is afraid to contest mahinda,he should resign the leadership.

In which country do you see this, the leader of the largest opposition party always looking for someone else to take on the incumbent leader?Show me one example. It is a joke. You are always saying that ranil will be the president one day,to become that don’t you think he should first contest. Now you can see why we have had no credible opposition for the last five years and the SLFP is going to rule at least till 2020,in total for 25 years and if ranil does not relinquish the leadership then it will extend to a further 30 years. So i hope you are happy to wait patiently in the opposition happy to have the opposition leader you want instead of being in government one day with the leader you may not want.

However if CBK contests i will give ranil credit for a masterstroke.
