Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has re-entered active politics while accepting the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s ( SLFP) Chief Organiser post for the Attanagalle electorate.
Kumaratunga’s Chief of Staff Justin Navaratne said today that Kumaratunga will function as the SLFP organizer for Attangalle with immediate effect. The post of Attanagalle SLFP Chief Organiser had remained vacant during the recent past. Arjuna Ranatunge who was appointed as the SLFP organizer of Attanagalle vacated the post after a brief stint to contest the last parliamentary polls under the UNP ticket.
Kumaratunga however has been playing a very active role in politics in the recent past and is considered as the main protagonist in convincing Sirisena to contest the last Presidential polls.
Quite alive to the threat posed by CBK Rajapaksa who was President at the time had went on to say that it was not Ranil or Sirisena who posed a threat to his throne but CBK.
According to reliable sources within the SLFP, President Maithripala Sirisena and CBK will jointly conduct the party’s campaign at the forthcoming provincial council polls, slated to happen at the end of the year or early next year.
A SLFP MP said that some reports appearing in the media that Sirisena and former President Rajapaksa will lead the SLFP campaign was false.
The SLFP MP said that the Sirisena – CBK combine was another attempt to keep Rajapaksa out of SLFP politics.
Already the new SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake has said that the SLFP will contest alone under the “Hand” symbol while leaving the coalition UPFA.
In this backdrop other UPFA leaders such as Wimal Weerawansa, Dinesh Gunewardena, Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Udaya Gammanpila are planning to create a separate political entity. They are to be supported by group of SLFP MP’s who are loyal to Rajapaksa.
However, what stance Rajapaksa will take on this new political development is not yet clear. The SLFP MP said that Rajapaksa has not yet given a definitive answer to a request made by his loyalists to lead the new coalition.
Both Sirisena and CBK have been accused of dividing and weakening the SLFP. However, according to the SLFP the duo this time will make a significant effort to build a strong SLFP and mount a significant challenge against the UNP.

This is a disgraceful comment from Sumanasekera.
If there was anyone in the highest saddle who disgraced that position – either through his own actions or that of his kith and kin – it was Rajapakse.
Sumanasekera unfrocks himself as someone with a nauseating grudge. Not a grudge against the unacceptable – No, No -but a grudge against those who are privileged without having robbed the country to be so.

Dear Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga
RE: CBK Re-Enters Active Politics
First of all, thank you for being an integral part of the team that came up with engineering the common (sense) democratic transformation from the Medamulana Family Dictatorship of Mahinda Rajapaksa and his cronies,MaRa MaRa Chatu MaRa and Cronies.
It is good that you re-enter politics from the SLFP. This will certainly dilute the credibility of MaRa MaRa Chatu Mara and his cronies. Thank you.
Keep Mahinda Rajapaksa, MaRa, out.
Let us not forget that the most important goal, after the defeat of Velupillai Prabakaran, another dictator, is the defeat of MaRa and his cronies.
MaRa MaRa Chatu MaRa has no shame.
Still there are too many Modayas, Mootals and Fools, with average IQ of 65, left who think MaRa is Raja. Ask them to talk to Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka, and kick the MaRa habit.
Let us all sing:
MaRa MaRa Chatu MaRa
MaRa MaRa Amana MaRa
MaRa MaRa HoRa MaRa
MaRa MaRa Dhushana MaRa
Then finish by singing the Jaya Mangala Gatha in the original Pali, on the defeat of MaRa, Mara and his cronies.
Based on the Book of Protection (Paritta Sutta) from the Pali canon, the Jaya Mangala Gatha is sung here in a rare recording by the Mahabodhi Society of India in original Pali. The Jaya Mangala Gatha is a chant recommended by the Buddha to destroy negativity and to generate auspiciousness. It proclaims the 8 major victories of the Buddha which are:
1) Victory over Mara ( MarRa)
2) Victory over the demon Alavaka (Wimal)
3) Victory over the wild elephant Nalagiri (Udu Gamanpila)
4) Victory over serial killer Angulimala (Gotabaya)
5) Victory over the evil intentions of Cinca who sought to defame (Pavitra)
6) Victory over the haughty brahmin Saccaka (Vasudeva)
7) Victory over the serpent king Nandopananda (Susil)
8) Victory over the false views of Brahma Baka (Yapa)
English translation on the Defeat of MaRa, Mara
Creating thousand hands, with weapons
armed was Mara, MaRa seated on the trumpeting,
ferocious elephant Girimekhala.
Him, together with his army of Cronies, did the
Lord of Sages subdue by means of generosity and other virtues.
By its grace may joyous victory be thine.

Well said, Amarasiri. The Country owes a debt of gratitude to Chandrika. For saving the country from The Alugosuwas. Whatever have been her mistakes in the past we are obliged to forgive those on account of her Act of Mercy in January and August.
It is also time for her rethink her allegiance to the SLFP. It is not the Party that it was. Sirisena was blackmailed into giving nominations to those corrupt politicians, and appointing MPs through National List, some of whom who were even rejected by the voters. How can such a person be entrusted to govern the country without supervision. Key Government Servants, Attorney General for example, are still sabotaging the Good Governance.
Madam, the time has come to take into account the larger interest of the Country, than merely get sentimental about a political party subverted and beyond redemption. The path is right in front of your eyes. Take it. For the time being, you are the only person available to deliver the country from the Jackals, from wherever they are, even Polonnaruwa.

So now, this fellow can thank his ‘Madam’ from the bottom of his heart if he wishes ,but the general public knows the corruption and mayhem she unleashed during her reign. My dear Athana Methana Gala (Rolling Stone?)
Tread carefully my friend, before accusing some one you do not know of heinous crimes. CT editor please take note. You are a newcomer to this forum and the first to point an accusing finger at me.
I never have and never will go behind politicians for their crumbs. I left Sri Lanka in 1981 resigning from a very respectable and fulfilling job in a Government Corporation, because the Minister instructed that I be denied the promotion that was due, and that it should be given to his crony who previously worked in his legal chamber. His life was violently ended 12 years later, on the instructions of Premadasa, as confirmed by the Presidential Commission.
Within just 30 days I secured employment in Dubai, much better in every sense. My wife and son are with me but the larger family are in Sri Lanka. Up to now I have sent back to Sri Lanka over AED 1,000,000 cash. I have no need to get my hands contaminated by associating with the run of the mill politicians of Sri Lanka. And I have lived a clean honest life, according to the teaching of the Holy Quran and the Prophet Mohammed, and Allah is my judge.
What I said about Chandrika is true for the present. Rajapakse proved himself to be a highway robber. Sirisena, either voluntarily, or under duress, is navigating what seems to be the same path. I know that whatever her shortcomings, Chandrika will not plunder the wealth of the country, or deliberately set out to deprive the citizenry of a decent life.
In January and August Chandrika was instrumental in salvaging the country from the marauding Medamulana Gang. Had she failed, the horror unleased would have been unimaginable. There is no other politician in Sri Lanka who has the capacity to launch the country on a progressive path.
You have the right to disagree, but not to accuse me of crimes I have not committed.

Do you think Ranil, Siri, and Chandrika would support Hindia’s candidature for a permanent seat in the UN security Council?
Is it good or bad for Sri Lanka?
If Ranil, Siri, and Chandrika (one for all and all for one) decide to support Hindia aren’t you going to join hands with Champika, Uthaya Ganapathipillai, Wimal Weerawansa, Dinesh, Ramuuuuuuuuu, and other Sinhala/Buddhists to protest against their move?
Ranil said enhancing bilateral trade with India would help his country reach the goal of generating one million jobs in Sri Lanka over the next five years.
Is it true?
By the way Uthaya Ganapathipillai is planning to introduce an indemnity bill to protect “war heroes,” as done thrice in the past.

Tt is natural that Hindians will do anything and everything to get a permanent Security Council seat.
And it is good.
As for your mate Ranil, his tosses to the Elite are all hand crafted by himself to make the Elite feel good and distract them from what Sira is doing to Yahapalanaya.
Specially in light of Sira going wild appointing Lansa , Muththa even DM’s darling son as a Deputy Minister, after Batalanda named him as a drug dealer..

Not having a good political leader is the bane of Sri Lanka. SLFP is the party formed by SWRD Bandaranayake who left the UNP for not being able to become the leader of that party 64 years ago. Bandaranayakes always had ambitions. Chandrika’s dream is to make her son Vimukthi the leader of SLFP. On the otherhand, Mr Sirisena wants his daughter Chathurika to become the leader of SLFP one day. Then there is Namal Rajapaksa and Chathura Senaratna. Every politician wants his/her children to do politics instead of getting a good education. Politician are ruining the country and at the end of the day ordinary citizens are a helpless lot. The lucky ones get opportunities to migrate to developed countries. The ones remaining in Sri Lanka should hope that they at least will be able to be reborn in another country other than Sri Lanka.

She abandoned the party when i was at its weakest. Thats not what is called “genuine” in my books.
The SLFP is not the property of her or Mahinda.
They both think it is their personal property to do as they please. When there is lack of democracy within the party (equally true for UNP) how can you expect external democracy in the country?

Her Agenda is to ensure that every single Rajapakse from the Medamulana family is driven to the political wilderness for all time. She has many in the country sharing views with her and that includes some of MR’s senior Ministers – one being My3. There are many more. Do you recall Kudu Dimu stating in public “when the Pope comes there will be a new President” That was wishful thinking by one of the many Judasas in the Rajapakse team.
CBK is fearless, determined and is pretty serious about what she wants done. The local equivalent of Maggie Thatcher – the Iron Lady. MR fears her the most.

3) failed to function in a manner consistent with the expectation of a Public Officer, much less as an Executive President,
4) betrayed the position of trust bestowed upon her by the Constitution and by the People of Sri Lanka, and
5) fined Rs.5 Million
to be treated as if she is an elder “Statesman” speaks volumes about the Good Governance credentials of the present Administratqion – perhaps it has not dawned upon the Polonnaruwa School of Good Governance that the above conduct tantamount to dis-qualifying such a person from holding any Public Office ever!
It is worth to mention that the Rule of Law, created pursuant to the Constitution of Sri Lanka, and, the executive power of the Prople of Sri Lanka, placed in the Executive President are duties that the holder of that Office should comply and uphold within his own conscience with a sense of integrity owed to the people.

[Edited out] is back. Heaven help Sri Lanka.CBK’S destroyed the Sinhalese,
CBK became President with Ranil W as Prime Minister they bungled the entire military operations against the LTTE. She appointed her uncle as Minister for Defence and her nephew Rohan Daluwatte as the Military commander. This man had no military experience and would run off to see Sai Baba whenever there was trouble. She kept the war with LTTE dragging on and thousands of our Sinhala soldiers were brutally killed by LTTE. She had a fixed idea that it was not possible to beat the LTTE, same as with Ranil W. Ranil W kept trying to hand over the North and East to appease Prabahakaran. He even stopped a crucial military operation in 2001 where the army knew the exact location of Prabahakaran and were ready to take him out. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZWO5fWDikQ
She recently in January engineered the downfall of the hero of the nation President Mahinda Rajapaksa by using the think tanks of the West and telling the people lies which have subsequently been proven to be baseless. She is so full of hatred and anger that it distorts her face where she looks like a Yakshani when she talks about MR. She may be harboring anger towards Sinhalese since her father and her husband were killed by Sinhalese. The Bandaranaiyake family has been a blot on the Sinhala people. CBK should be kept away from activities of the government. Her regime was very brutal and was a very dark period of the country. When she came to power she wanted to give a federal system of government to LTTE terror mater Prabhaharan. Remember what happened to Mulathiew army camp which left isolated even against the army’s advice. LTTE attacked and killed all of them overnight, close to 1400 soldiers. Then LTTE carried out series of attack by a code name of “Uneasing Wave” in all Vanni areas annihilated all the army camps. Soldiers without proper weapons had to sacrifice their lives at very tender age because CBK’s stupid leadership as the defense minister. Following the Vanni victory LTTE move to Paranthon and captured it overnight. Then attacked Elephant Pass and captured. Elephant Pass was defended throughout the thirty year war of terror until it fell to LTTE during CBK time. At Elephant Pass, some wounded soldiers have to die due to dehydration because LTTE cutoff water supply ahead of the attack. If you people did not loose your memory, Jaffna almost fell to LTTE, until late general Janaka Perera who was sidelined by the CBK had to use him to rescue the Jaffna. With the help from Pakistan MBRLs, Janaka Perara was able to hold onto Jaffna. It was very imminent fall of Jaffna to the LTTE till very last minute. If we lost Jaffna, almost 40000 soldiers would have killed by the LTTE.
She has been a worst head of state in our country. She makes mess out of everything what ever she is going to do. You will see how she is going to do when she is going to negotiate with the TNA, former LTTE proxy. Her sister, Sunethra once said that CBK thrive with power. She need power even thogh she says otherwise. Have you heard any right thinking head of state in the world go out of the country and criticize the internal issue in front of the foreign audience except CBK. In near future our country will go through another worst period.

So, quit the India land-bridge, and CEPA agreement. Maybe, do some of the port city. But definetely, put all our produces and products onto the ships to China!
West won’t mind. But you always knew that. You can become our next Queen. Don’t worry, all will be forgiven.

When I saw a poster of CBK for the first time when she contested for Prime Minister, I knew she will win. So, take my advise which I give for the second time: do a ‘face-lift’, loose some weight, have a different hair style. Look at politicians debating in the U.S now. They all look attractive to people. You are a latently good-looking woman so have that restored.

i have been a reader of colombo telegraph for a year or two.comments about cbk coming to active politics has elicited cheap remarks which is uncalled for.every person has got some weakness and politicians are no exception as long as it does not affect the populace as a whole.while i am not a great supporter of cbk or slfp but i feel she is needed to combat the mahinda factor in srilankan politics.no doubt mahinda contributed to the victory against tamil tigers.but it was not done only by his family.others also contributed which has been conveniently overlooked.we cant blame any one because victors only write history.lakshman kadirgamar who strenuously lobbied hard for banning tamil tigers in west, ranil who was instrumental in cfa agreement in 2002 which weakened tamil tigers considerably have been forgotten.last but not least my request to commentators is dont resort to cheap comments and below the belt remarks which in no way enhance the reputation of this website.let comments be scholarly this will enhance the quality of this website.

I would strongly recommend that ladies pushing 70 , who insist on raising their arms ,should wear long sleeves in order not to cause embarrassment to themselves and eyestrain to innocent viewers.

Yippee! The girl is back in town.
C B K come out to play,
The moon doth shine as bright as day;
Leave your supper, leave your sleep,
And come with your playfellows into the street.
Come with a whoop, come with a call,
Come with a good will or not at all.
Up the elephant, down the wall,
A fifty-rupee maalu-paang will serve us all.
You find the milk, and I’ll find flour,
And we’ll have roti in half an hour
ps: and don’t forget your underarm deodorant stick.
pps: I have a qym subscription for you to get in shape.
