In a veiled attack on the UNP’s Presidential aspirant Sajith Premadasa, JHU Leader Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said family-centric politics was the bane of the country.

Speaking to the media in Colombo today, Ranawaka said Sri Lanka needed a political culture that laid more emphasis on skills and abilities than family interests.
Sajith Premadasa has already begun positioning himself as a potential presidential candidate by highlighting the positive aspects of his father, Ranasinghe Premadasa’s presidency. Former President Premadasa’s presidency was marred with gross human rights violations and extra-judicial killings. However, he managed to initiate a comprehensive poverty alleviation and housing programmes that benefitted the underprivileged sections of society.
Ranawaka also criticized the welfare-centric brand of politics espoused by Premadasa.
“Everyone talks about providing various facilities free of charge. They remind me of Santa Clause. Unfortunately, no one talks about the real crisis faced by the country – the debt issue. No one presents their plans to resolve the debt issue,” Ranawaka added.
“I’ve held ministries since 2010. In every ministry I headed, I managed to resolve the debt issue and generate profits,” the Minister added projecting himself as an alternative to Premadasa.
However, when asked whether he would run for the Presidency, Ranawaka avoided the question saying he did not know anything about it. “But in every President election since 2005, we were instrumental in having way for the winning party. I am sure we will do the same at the next election,” he said.

Just a comment on the age of Sinhala and Hebrew, Sinhala has come from Sanskrit and been in existence in Hela form for 10 centuries before it developed in to the fully mature current form in around the seventh century.

Large scale killing occurred during Ranasinha Premadasa’s presidency. Wonder if history will record Premadasa as a President who had a vision for the country.

Ranil came into politics on the strength of his Regal family connections. He could move with Royalty (his childhood playmate Chandrika, and King JR), and walk with scum (Batalanda thugs, kudu Karayas, and other assorted low life who would do him favours – in return for favours, naturally!). Then, he was the bright new future hope.
But Ranil’s sell-by date is now long past. He should go as gracefully as he can. I recommend he take his copy of The Art of the Possible by Lord Butler (I hope Rajiva Wijesingha has returned it) and slip away quietly into oblivion. WE will forgive the regular, and sometimes monumental cock-ups, but be assured WE will never allow them to be forgotten.
When it is time for his farewell do, maybe some generous soul will give a two-minute speech highlighting all the good he did.

I spoke with pohottuwa people recently they all like to have this presidential election as single horse race for gotabaya ,they do not like to meet a common candidate to make a compatition with gota . to have a single horse race for gota only possible if sajith or Ranil come as candidates with out JVP support. If sajith is a candidate gota will win very easily since unpalliance and TNA 5% vote combination can get maximum of 34% vote for sajit with 85% minority votes.. So slfp of of Mahinda very much prefer if sajith or Ranil became their opponent candidate with out solid 7% vote base of JVP. Patlee is very good in maths he can calculate this very easily. If gota come as candidate with 45% of pohottuwa votes he will get at least 7% of slfp votes and he can win this race easily . there are 7% floating votes if all know anti slfp candidate is coming with out a support of jvp and gota will win and unp alliance unable to get atlest 2% of this floating votes which was the all 7% they got in last presidential and Parliament election. If anti slfp came want to give a commpetion for slfp candidadate they have to put a common candidate with JVP support. Remind slfp is 200% biger party than unp. Patlee know this.
