As a Commonwealth leader at a Jubilee lunch President Mahindra Rajapakse got the same treatment as the rest – the Queen shook his hand with a warm smile. But a speech was cancelled in the face of large demonstrations.

Guess the international pariah is returned to Lanka with tail between legs and the realization that the wheel of justice, like the wheel of samsara turns slowly, but surely! By the time and IF the Commonwealth Heads meet takes place in Lanka there will be Sri Lankans on the streets of Colombo too protesting against the show – the British support for a war criminal. The problem for Rajapakse is not just the past and war crimes accusations. It is the present of Human rights violations and disappeances, corrupt crony capitalism of unbelievable proportions and spin amidst Sports Business, military business and car racing extravaganzas for the Rajapakse sons who are looting Lanka.
The country is being looted and turned into a military dictatorship by Rajapakse and his family of goons and playboys with help from China and the Commonwealth it seems. Corruption has never been so bad in the history of post colonial Sri Lanka and institutions are being de-developed and destroyed, while the country is sinking into a debt trap.
If a Commonwealth conference takes place in Lanka in the context it would indeed be a case of Bread and Circuses worthy of the contempt of the world!

This is the new colonialism, trying to suppress the building nations.
You British idiots now Sri Lanka is an independent country, pay back our wealth steal from our country, ask your queen to make an open statement regarding British atrocities done in Sri Lanka in last two decades.
One good thing we have shipped shit in our country (LTTE rascals to Europe, Canada, USA and Australia).Enjoy our shit and gulp it.
We do not have any problem in our beautiful Island now.

@ Don Peter London, your sarcasm about the British is hillarious, while you yourself enjoying the British hospitality living there in the UK and carrying a British name at that. What a joker you are?

The Queen shook his hand with a warm smile. Tell me a person whose hand was not shook with a warm smile by this Queen?

She learned how to shake hands always with a smile with everyone and she is not our lifestyle. She disinfects her hands after this ceremony

We need a real reconcilliation in Sri Lanka independent from shaking hands.

Our MaRa made a long way to shake some british hands. What a wonderful ceremony. We have so many hands to shake in Sri Lanka without being disinfected

It is a shame that the LTTE was dominant amongst the demonstrators. Their hands are as bloody as those of Rajapakse. The LLTE’s involvement has distracted attention from the other more prominent and respected voices that have also condemned this tyrant and his gang of thugs. The LTTE certainly does not speak for Tamil people.

Nevertheless, in this disgraceful exercise of pots calling kettles black, the Sri Lankan government keeps missing opportunities to redeem itself in the eyes of the international community. It is not too late to invite an independent, UN-led enquiry into the war and take positive steps towards reconciliation. However, their persistent obstruction reinforces the view that they do have something to hide and they fear that they will share the same fate suffered by the likes of Milosevic, Charles Taylor, et al.

You are right Gerard, these people with LTTE flags mixing among demonstrators bring us, the HR defenders, in a complete new situation and an image

All these people with LTTE flags made the game for SL diplomats easier in May 2009 in front of UN

They did not learn anything from history

Peter Kellner [Edited out] paid idiot. Mind your own business.
First you talk about human right violations done in Sri Lanka done by British during the colonial era. If you inquire about queen’s ancestors has to go to jail.
Then talk about human right violations done by Tamil against Sinhalese in Sri Lanka and killing thousands of unarmed innocent people and children.
Shout up your ugly mouth peter, no more world is listen to this British A..Hole emperor and Europe.
