Courting Satan In Saffron Robes

By Sharmini Serasinghe

Sharmini Serasinghe

“It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it, and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it” – Aung San Suu Kyi

The Rajapaksas’ moment of glory has passed. The sheen on the “We won the war” badge has now faded. The golden moment that presented itself post-2009 to ‘right’ the ‘wrongs’ of the past is now lost. The lack of a political vision, direction and leadership of a country emerging from the quagmire of a protracted bloody civil war is tragic, to say the least.

Ineptitude at governance and corruption at all levels has become synonymous with the hyped – up cognomen of the High and Mighty; and their senseless rhetoric has turned out to be just that- senseless. Their vision and direction appears to be focused only on one thing- to augment their power, personal glory and fortune, while steering the country on a downward course. To sum it all up, their bull-in-a-china-shop method of governance would appear comic, if it wasn’t for them taking us and the country back to a tragic era, none of us ever want to revisit.

Thus in such a despairing scenario where all is lost and the hunger for power persists, then what do such ‘legitimate desperados’ do to keep the gullible voting masses awed for a while longer, at least until the next ‘defining’ election? The challenge here for the demagogues appears to be monumental, but is it?

It is indeed disturbing to note that even the young ‘samaneras’ or novice monks are being made to contribute their might to hate speech and vile demonstrations against the ‘other’ | Photo Daily Mirror

There is the voter who thinks through his belly, therefore his plate of rice. So, in the absence of a costly war there is no valid excuse anymore to lay the blame on the war for the ceaseless and regular rises in costs of living, rendering the voter constantly hungry. Therefore it’s imperative to keep him happy, for his loyalty at the ballot-box depends on how full his belly is. Thus the demagogues now need to resort to measures to keep the voter adequately distracted from his hunger pangs and ensure that the all important vote is cast in the ‘right’ direction again.

However there is one trick left in the bag, a time tested and a very effective one at that- the age-old political gimmick which thus far has not failed to yield results – Buddhism.

Lanka’s politicians since time immemorial, have used and abused Buddhism for political mileage, making it almost a tradition in the local political spectrum! After all what is Buddhism to these demagogues anyway, since for them, nothing is sacred except power! And true to form, they latch on to the sacred Saffron robe once again.

But this time, with or without knowing it, they are courting Satan and his entourage disguised as Buddhist monks!

In keeping with the need of the hour, and hot on the heels of the infamous ‘Grease Yakkas’ who disappeared as fast as they appeared, out pops a gang of miscreants masquerading as Buddhist monks all wrapped up in Saffron Robes and topped with shaven heads. Could they be the same ‘Grease Yakkas’, in different garb and a different modus operandi?

However this time around, these miscreants have been ingenious in choosing their uniform- the sacred Saffron robe. Once draped in it, the possibilities are endless. For they know, the power this sacred garment of Buddhist monks wields over the average voting majority. They can thus be hoodwinked into anything, as long as it is said and done in the name of Buddhism. This is the ultimate weapon to rally the masses behind them- for better or for worse!

These young children who ought to be in school are instead roaming the streets with their older counterparts watching, learning and emulating their elders, demonstrating all that goes against the Buddhist doctrine | Photo Daily Mirror

For the demagogues, these Saffron-robed ‘mouthpieces’ can be extremely useful at times. For they can be seen and heard, saying and doing things with credibility, that the demagogues cannot be ‘seen to be doing’ as it will not be deemed ‘politically correct’. Thus overtly the demagogues are ‘seen and heard’ sermonizing the merits of ethno-religious harmony and other such platitudes which are ‘politically correct’, while covertly allowing full rein to the terror instincts of a few Saffron-robed rebels. Or else, how does one explain the obvious carte blanche enjoyed by these ‘monks’ to run amok with such impunity.

So what might we have next, every Tom, Dick and Harry donning the Saffron robe and flexing their muscles? Will all murderers, rapists, drug peddlers et al now start masquerading as Buddhist monks in order to evade the law, if they are not already doing so? Will we have yet another JVP-style insurrection, this time by disgruntled youth disguised as Buddhist monks? After all, the law enforcement authorities have proven beyond doubt that the law does not apply to those in Saffron robes. Just imagine the horrors in the offing if this menace is not arrested!

Little does the rural voter realise that these ‘monks’ are not ‘swaminwahanses’ from the village temple. They cannot see beyond the Saffron robe to understand that these ‘monks’ are nothing but a group of extremist rabble-rousers hell bent on wreaking havoc. For these ‘monks’ are precisely that; elements of frustrated youth who have been marking time for the opportune moment to ignite the tinderbox of yet another protracted war- this time with religious undertones.

Now that these ‘monks’ have been unleashed with political blessings, the demagogues will soon find themselves caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. For there will soon come a day when these ‘monks’ will no longer be willing to ‘go along’ with the elected political leaders of the country. Left unchecked, these yellow-robed ‘rebels’ will eventually ‘take over,’ as they are ‘in it’ for the long haul. Therefore it is just a matter of time before this saga blows up in the faces of those who fanned its flames and ultimately end up with anarchy.

Then what will the demagogues do? Turn their guns on the Buddhist clergy and shoot down the entire lot as in the 70s and 80s JVP insurrections? Will they still expect the Sinhala-Buddhist vote to be cast in their favour after that? If this is to be their downfall, at what cost would it be?

It is indeed disturbing to note that even the young ‘samaneras’ or novice monks are being made to contribute their might to hate speech and vile demonstrations against the ‘other’. These young children who ought to be in school are instead roaming the streets with their older counterparts watching, learning and emulating their elders, demonstrating all that goes against the Buddhist doctrine. What and who are they being trained to grow up to be? What are the national Child Protection Authorities doing about it? Or don’t these children who have been offered/gifted/abandoned/donated to the ‘temple’ come under the purview of such Authorities?

It appears the Rajapaksas are trying to add a new chapter to the Sinhala-Buddhist Fable- the Mahavamsa. And in doing so, they will be taking all of us and the country down with them.

      Dear Upul and Sharmini

You are again trying to mislead the IC and public showing photos of young monks who were peacefully protesting in front of the Colombo Indian HC against west, western mouth pieces, US, India and UNHRC who got passed totally unfair resolutions repeatedly against the GOSL only due to the legitimate GOSL’s eradication of the LTTE. We should not forget that the LTTE acts were fuelled by the west and India including bogus peace makers and by their large investments on LTTEs’ barbaric acts of terrorism that included mass killing of young monks and 10s of thousands of innocent civilians in Sri Lanka.

You also including the west where you are sitting sound the agony of the loss of income once lucrative when the LTTE was in its business of killing to the fullest.

        Hi Jaliya whoever you are:

If you are honest to you – would you EVER allow your kids of the samanera age – to go and protest in this manner for an issue that the grown up should intelligently work on ?
At the time we were schooling then, as little ones in the country, we were asked not to go on protest even if any kind of JVPers or other activists could come and manipulate us – but it was decades ago in the country. But today, where KUDU dealers deliberately kill PC MPs nevertheless no fair charges in the prevailing crime friendly legal system backed by president himself – what cannot be the fate of the future of the youth in the country ?

For you guys, whatever west does is interpreted as it is the imperialistic view mostly without studying the facts- but all these are tricks to manipulate the internal rural masses. How long the masses would be able to feed with misinformation will show us soon.

All these BBS violations and lack of due investigations by the state will not been seen as redherrings to the IC, BUT THE STUPIDITY OF THE TOP LEADERSHIP OF THE CURRENT Regime.

          High Sama

You cannot criticize Buddhism and current acts of Buddhists without knowing even the basic principles of it. It is totally agree with Buddhism to enter any age in to its Maha Sangha Sasana (Monkhood) and Prince Rahula who was just 7 when he did so is the best example to prove that. Once entered there he can never be compared with anybody who did not do so and he is eligible to be worshipped as he is guided entirely by the Buddhist principles which is nothing but sacrificing their life towards enlightening people. Under the Buddhist principles, insulting them in any form is the gravest sin one can commit and perhaps you and Sharmini has been doing not only that but also misleading the public with false information in this regard due to your ignorance. Sri Lankas’ legal system is not crime friendly as Monks also are punished in it. However involving in Marxist politics is entirely against the Buddhism.

Our children’s social status is entirely different from monks as they are guided by parents and teachers and above all under the guidance of our Maha Sanga Sasana. As long as you want your children to go to western styled current schooling system and being slaves to western science, it is your decision and you cannot force it on others as the western science is not the only science and according to Buddhism it is totally against the mankind and truth. We really need to save our children from western science and that kind of thinking as it recently reports, in US nearly 400,000 teens a year give births and 20% of the cases are not the first birth. Buddhist who are intelligent in the above senses cannot be manipulated by the west as well as the politicians who has to work according to Buddhist principles within Sri Lanka.

          Please think before write.

            Mr Jaliya W,

None of the questions raised in my previous comments have been addressed clearly, but JUST about the Buddhist principles ?
Sorry to say, yours sound to be similar to what we usually read from Leela.

No need to be a Buddhist professor but anyone with healthy conscience critically sees that BBS`s activities create unprecedented problems to all folks in SL. Sympathisers of BBS are equally responsible for all sins that committed to the Muslims in the country. And some in the State seem to sponsor all these activities using little Monks as seen on the pictures is absolutely no go. What could these little monks know about the protests ? Pictures prove that the little monks have been trained to so as North Koreans are brainwashed to weep in their leader’s state funeral ceremony.

Current article is btw focused on the ground reality of the majority innocent Buddhists being easily abused by bigoted monks. Those monks are proved to have high crime records as evident in the video and materials provided by CT yesterday (absolutely the facts)and the other audio and video tapes emerging all these weeks in and out the country.

Unlike you guys, real Buddhists are proud of the writers like SHARMINI – hats off to her again :)

No doubt, the writer’s current article will help millions that are brainwashed by BBS. This and similar articles will work as an eye opener them to have a clear picture of the chronically destruction of Buddhism in the country. So in contrary to your views, the opposite will be the result for sure. However, further to your info, misleading public with misinformation have become the daily agenda of the current regime and its apologists.

We don’t need to be worried about the statistics of the high teen pregnancy rates of the western countries, while ours have been becoming the world champions soon. Rapidly increasing crime rates among youth, numbers of the youth becoming drug addicts and dealers (with every 4th becoming drug addict) will break records if the rulers would not react properly reintroducing a proper legal system to the folks. As everyone is well informed, Mervin^s son ^drug businesses are not hidden to many in the country with almost various criminals are filled in and out of parliament.

              Hi Sama

You are again trying to tarnish the good name of SL with false statistics and assumptions made on covertly made media reports like the one Sharmini made on which you also have got your brain washed. Your questions have grounds only if you can successfully reply to the below mentioned comments I made in relation to your comments and questions.

1.No Buddhists in this country is represented by the BBS which is another civil society group that enjoys their democratic rights as everybody does. How did you estimate that millions of Buddhist have been misled by the BBS? The truth is that no Buddhist is misled as you have been on any statement inconsistence to their conscience and intellectuality shinned by the Buddhist culture.

              2. There is no problem between Buddhists and Muslims neither between any communities in Sri Lanka Except the TNA/LTTE extremists’ separatism (also stupid according to their chairman A.Sangarie, but a leader in castist mind). Can you defend the west and there culture in this regard? Sri Lanka which has a proud history is not going to ban Muslim traditional dresses as France did and not going to ask them to go back or join their cultures if Muslims want to stay as UK and Aussies PMs have recently asked. Remember a train full of Muslims including women and children were burned alive in India some few years back.
              3. Age does not represent any body’s capacity of problem solving. I hinted and warned you about possible consequences of insulting a great part of Maha Sanga Sasana, one of Global Triple Gem, calling them as little monks or in other ways your little mind decides.

              4. US and UK (India too perhaps) statistics are facts and they are the world champions in that regard. But your statistics are totally false as those got no proper base except few photos/ videos or gossip web sources that exaggerate and trying to generalize extremely isolated incidents all over SL. What about the teen son of a single mother shooting and killing entire class of under 5 in a KG and child abuses reported in Vatican? Do you or Sharmini ever generalize those on all over US and on all over the RC leaders around the world? Thanks to all our religions freely practiced, crime and drug addiction rates are being declined despite the growth in population in SL. Perhaps also due to the fact that most of the real criminals, drug dealers and bogus peace makers once connected to the LTTE in some form are now acting in exile.

              5. Please do not be angry with me personally as all the above was made in retaliation to the current stream of misinformation and to pave the way for the public to decide themselves joining in similar dialogues in a professional arena.

It is because of stupid idiots like you that the saying “Sinhalaya modeya” was invented and fools like you portray Buddhism as a joke to others.

And so according to you Buddhists should return to the stone-age.

If you are so anti “western science” as you call it, I challenge you to stop using the little bit of “western English” you know and dump your “western science” computer in the garbage.

You deserve your name and can never confront my arguments in a decent manner.
I, holding the highest degrees in WS and living on selling it, never say that I’m anti WS. I said WS which is highly misused against the poor mankind by the west is not the only science as it seriously lacks the spiritual or nonphysical values.

My knowledge about the WS, English, Computer W. Mathematics etc. and more importantly the perception ofthe Buddhist science is a gift given by mother Sri Lanka and I use them to protect her from those who are trying to betray their own motherland with the same knowledge and wealth that they also got free of charge as a gift from her.

Sharmini has done the right thing that any sensible person with courage will do to expose the wrong doings of the Buddhist monks.

The disciples of Siddhartha Gautama (the sangha) should not be taking part in political matters, protesting in streets (peacefully or violently) and burning flags and effigies. These young Buddhist monks are not only misguided by their elders but they are being abused. Definitely the IC and the general public should know what is happening in Sri Lanka where Buddhism is enjoying the foremost place.

Sharmini should be commended for being so bold in exposing the facts. She is the only true Buddhist Sinhalese who has the courage to call a spade a spade by exposing all the anti-Buddhist activities that the Sinhala-Buddhists are engaged in.

Well done Sharmini, please continue you good work, it is actually a great service to the true Buddhists.

Madam  Sharmini Serasinghd, Director Communications of the former Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP) under Secretary Generals Jayantha Dhanapala and Dr. John GooneratneIt, says
“It appears the Rajapaksas are trying to add a new chapter to the Sinhala-Buddhist Fable- the Mahavamsa. And in doing so, they will be taking all of us and the country down with them.”

If SCOPP succeeded, there would not be a country for Rajapakses or anybody else to destroy …
How could anybody with so much venom towards the Sinhalese and Budhists been the secretariat for SCOPP?
Srilankans were lucky to escape from the Peace Process trap. With these kind of people, where could it have gone except for the bottom?

Please get the facts straight ! And add your comments. The writer has added all these just because the Buddhist masses in the country are NOT represented by BBS back by GR.

Secondly, Buddhists of lanken sort have never practiced violent processions or public protests as becoming agenda in the country today. Lanken Buddhists are seen and highly respected ones internationally. So, I really dont think bringing an article drawing the ground reality of the saffron robbed pseudo Buddhists and their unnecessary behaviors are imperative at this critical juncture.

To me and the significant masses that stay helpless- reactions of BBS are not even thinkable. Rulers have to consider the views of the majority of Buddhists in the country in finding solutions to the newly created problems by BBS in the country. Buddhists are divided by BBS brutal activities.

        Bruno Umbato,

If SCOPP had succeeded there wouldn’t have been a war today and neither would so many have been needlessly killed in the final stages of the war.

You obviously know nothing about the Sinhalese, Buddhism nor the mandate of SCOPP.

As they say “little knowledge is a dangerous thing” so it’s in your best interest not to display yours.

        Best regards,
        Peace Dove

The poor Sinhala village boys, mainly underage to understand religion or politics, are being coerced into joining these Buddhist chauvinist movements with the lure of street power, economic betterment and a secure life. The child monks with their cherubic faces and indoctrinated minds will appeal to these masses on the emotional and fanatically religious plane.

This is child slavery and cruelty in the name of religion. Why are those so-called humanitarian organizations not protesting against this abuse of Buddhist children? Unfortunately the authorities who shout a lot against child abuse never even open their mouth on the massive scale child abuse happening in Buddhist temples. Given the fact that child abuse happens even at schools by teachers (in an open environment) you do not need brains to imagine what would happen behind closed doors. Unlike adults, children have little chance of resisting sexual advances. These children who are given away to the Temples at an early age are too young to understand the religion, politics or child abuse.

The Sinhala Buddhists only want to poke their noses at other religious practices and talk about it and ridicule or even attack others. But when it comes to Sri Lankan voodoo, called Sinhala Buddhism, they all act as dead as a door nail.

As long as we have back bone less politicians such as Thondaman, Rauff Hakim, GL Peiris and a Cheap Justice such as Mohan and civil servants such as Gotha acting more powerful than Ministers in this country, there will be no democracy and rule of law in this country. For GL Peiris to stand and announce in the Parliament that UN Resolution is not acceptable to Sri Lankan Government alone shows what sort of politicians and political ideology we have. Bodu Bala Sena behaving like a Balu Bala Sena is another menace to our country. There again the present government is supporting BBS. In a day and age when all the other countries, including African counties where the literacy rate is much lower than Sri Lanka is moving towards democracy and rule of law (such as Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast)we Sri Lankans are going backward. When we have politicians, some of whom are educated but behave like uneducated, the demise of the Sri Lankan identity in the international sphere will gradually merge with those citizens of failed states.

      Park,

I wish to see the discussions similar to INDIAN NEW HOUR on their TV in which they interview almost every minister or authority directly and try to sum up what each of them has to see about the addressed issue. That kind of culture is still far from lanken Media Institutations. Although there are few good programs I found are running on some what neutral basis on lanken TV today. Every country keep some crucial issues considering of the gravity of the issue away from media, but lanken issues seem to be kept very hidden – see alone the views on UN Resolution passed against SL lately was not discussed openly.
Rulers tactics seems to be framed within MR and siblings while paying no attention whether the folks are interested in them or not. Anyway, it is repeatedly resounded by them as democratically done… After all the media spokesman- Keheliya is not acceptable regardless of the gravity of any issues addressed, he passes just evasive thoughts not taking matters seriously. That is his tricky manner. But opposition seems to stay further like Egypitian mummies. I dont get to read anything else except from Dayasiri Jayasekara – I thought 2013- the UNPers together with other opposition parties would strengthen its stand, but not even the light at the end of the tunnel is seen in that regard. So long the opposition is WEAKENED as the case with the current regime – rulers can ABUSE the torn nation easily.

This aspect of Buddhist extremism involving young children, who obviously are unable to comprehend what the real facts are, is just frightening. The corruption of young minds with lies, the start of yet another generation filled with racist thoughts let loose in the country, and a danger for the next generation. This is simply a disaster. Picture after picture of hate speakers and their faithful followeg disservice by carrying on like mindless goons and racists, instigating equally mindless mobs, who get their cues to attack the subjects of their hatred. This country can never find peace, or progress when generation after generation, hatred is instilled into empty heads.

    “………..elements of frustrated youth…………”
    Very true.
These young males are at an age of an upsurge of their testosterone levels and have no opportunities to counter it except by the age old practices – ‘self’, ‘active’ and ‘passive’, among seggregated young males.
It is said that their elders appease their own raised levels by ‘using’ these young males.
In addition, they are slaves to the elders and also have to eat only once a day,at noon, and enjoy none of the joys of childhood as family members.
Now they have found an outlet for their pent-up frustrations in ‘defending’ buddhism by screeming invectives at would-be enemies.
The photos are disturbing – young children yelling like maniacs.
The Lord Buddha never envisaged young children to be subjected to rigid discipline in his name.

Navi Pillai and all other UN and local authorities may be napping as usual.

Ask any DEMOLITION ENGINEER how one could bring a building down on its footstep ? There is no other way except by control blasting! . As for your other albatross read the “The BIBLE, QURAN and SCIENCE ” by MAURICE BUCAILLE . If the English is too difficult for you you may try the French edition” La Bible, le Coran et la Science” the original by the same author.

There is no doubt that you are the most stupid guy on this forum

“And remember, sweet little ones, Bin Laden never claimed responsibility for the attacks until 2004. Do you know how many years that is, boys and girls? Something was up the government’s sleeve, and I’ll let you in on a little secret: It wasn’t sugar plums, oh, no! No, it was the ties between the bin Laden and Bush families. They’ve been under the mistletoe for decades, if you catch your old pal Kris Kringle’s meaning! I’ve checked my list twice, and it seems Arbusto Energy, a Bush business, had financial connections to Salem bin Laden, half-brother of Osama. The CIA actually helped create and fund al-Qaeda right around the time Bush Senior was the agency’s director—ho, ho, ho, ol’ H.W. stuffed their pockets as fat as a Christmas goose!

Now, as for the towers themselves: The type of steel they used melts at a temperature of about 2,700 degrees Fahrenheit, and as I’m sure all you smart little boys and girls know, jet fuel burns at 1,500 degrees, tops. My darlings, you’d need quite a Yule log to create that extra 1,200 degrees, wouldn’t you? Oh, what a glorious sight it would be!

Of course, you do know what they found in the Ground Zero debris, don’t you? Would you like St. Nicholas to tell you? Well, then, hop up on his lap and I’ll whisper it in your ear: traces of nano-thermite. Does that jingle any bells upstairs? Nano-thermite is an explosive compound, children, capable of making the biggest Christmas cracker you ever saw! So what in the name of Donner and Blitzen was it doing in the world’s largest banking complex? Was Lehman Brothers or one of the insurance companies stockpiling explosives? No, children. You find nano-thermite where there’s been a controlled demolition. Ever see a controlled demolition, little ones? That’s where the whole building plummets straight downward like a plumb bob and every floor is destroyed. Even if the building is struck in the middle.”

THE DAY AFTER 9/11, WHEN ALL FLIGHTS WERE GROUNDED TWO PLANE
LOADS OF BIN LADEN CONNECTIONS WERE FLOWN OUT.

WHEN THE SECOND PLANE HIT I HAD ALREADY SAID IT WAS A CONTROLLED DEMOLITION.

Firstly Osama bin Laden maybe your hero not mine! To me he is a terrorist like yourself and you BBS partners. As I mentioned I am not going into who did it as I do not want to speculate. I can say however definitely it could not have been the Arabs for the following reasons.
            1. The alleged Arab pilots did bot have the expertise to manoeuvre those planes . Log on to http://www.pilotsfor911truth.org for further details.
            2. Dr Stephen Jones report see http://physics911.net/stevenjones/ says only a few companies have the expertise to carry out controlled demolition and to over two thousand Engineers, physicists, and other techies they feel the official report is not worth the paper it was written on, and it was a mega scale cover up! And it was CONTROLLED BLASTING that brought the building down. I would rather go with these top scientists than charlatans like Lester. Ask any DEMOLITION ENGINEER how one could bring a building down on its footstep ?

Hey idiot, obviously you have never seen the OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING. A truck bomb brought the building down:

          http://www.oklahomacitybombing.com/oklahoma-city-bombing.html

Are you saying OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING was also a controlled demolition?

If a SINGLE truck bomb can do that, then the explosion from a plane can easily do the same thing WTC:

          http://www.flickr.com/photos/kh_unique/2857991276/

By the way, your hero Osama admitted he Al Qaeda was behind the attack, so why are you trying to spread lies here?

Your English skills are very poor. This is what footstep means:

              footstep [ˈfʊtˌstɛp]
              n
              1. the action of taking a step in walking
              2. the sound made by stepping or walking
              3. the distance covered with a step; pace
              4. a footmark
              5. a single stair; step
              6. to continue the tradition or example of another

Learn some English, then come and argue here.

No, Homer is recoiling in horror at your abuse of the English language. Even if you replace footstep with footprint, the sentence does not make sense. Time for you to give up; you have clearly lost the argument.

@Lester if I were to say Lester is an incorrigible, stubborn charlatan, would it not be grammatically correct or not? Yes of course, not only grammatically but also factually correct!
Now check the OXFORD DICTIONARY and you will find footprint also refers to the area covered by something. In common usage one speaks of a computer having a small footprint. In fact when the first Macintosh Computer was released, one of the talking points was its small footprint. Just in case you try to limit it only to computers, I quote from Physicist Dr. Stephen Jones report:

“Sometimes, though, a building is surrounded by structures that must be preserved. In this case, the blasters proceed with a true implosion, demolishing the building so that it collapses straight down into its own footprint (the total area at the base of the building). This feat requires such skill that only a handful of demolition companies in the world will attempt it. [Again, consistent with the Second Law of Thermodynamics.]” see http://physics911.net/stevenjones/

Lester I presume you are more knowledgeable now and also you have improved your vocabulary. No payment is required as this my charitable deed of the day!!

              @ Jamal,

Your hero Osama Bin Laden has taken full responsibility for the 911 attacks:

              http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiKyWJRRjnU

              Refer to 2:31

These blessed and successful strikes are but in reaction to what happened in our lands – in Palestine, and in Iraq, and in other places.

But MOSSAD did not lose in Palestine or Iraq… so MOSSAD is not the one that attacked the World Trade Center! As Brother Osama says, 911 was carried out by the Islamic martyrs :)

Another point. A demolition begins at the bottom and goes up. The 911 attack started at the top and went down. Looks like your ridiculous consipracy theory fails miserably again. Why don’t you just celebrate 911, like the rest of the Ummah ? It is the only victory you will have against Israel. :)

            LESTER YOU IDIOT,

THE CENTRAL BANK WAS DAMAGED BY THE LTTE TRUCK BOMB.
YOU FOOL, THE WHOLE BUILDING DID NOT COME DOWN.
CEYLINCO GALADARI ETC WERE ALSO DAMAGED DUE TO THE EXPLOSION.

AN LTTE PLANE HIT THE INLAND REVENUE BUILDING. DID IT COME DOWN NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!WHY????? LESTER, YOU PROVIDE THE ANSWER.

WHEN A TRUCK BOMB HITS THERE IS AN EXPLOSION, THERE IS NO CONTROL OF WHAT COULD BE DAMAGED.

THE TWIN TOWERS WERE NOT BROUGHT DOWN BY THE PLANES.

IT WAS EXPLOSIVES PLACED IN CERTAIN POINTS BY EXPERTS.
THIS IS CONTROLLED DEMOLITION. THIS IS AN IMPLOSION.

AT LEAST NOW LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN EXPLOSION AND
            IMPLOSION.

BRINGING DOWN A BUILDING FROM FOOTSTEP MEANS THE VERY FOUNDATION OF THE BUILDING.THAT IS WHY IT IS REFERRED TO AS THE FOUNDATION.
YOU HEAR OF BUILDINGS COLLAPSING WITHOUT TRUCK BOMBS OR PLANES
BECAUSE FOUNDATIONS CANNOT CARRY THE EXTRA LOAD BY ADDING MORE FLOORS. I WONDER WHEN YOU WILL ACCEPT THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT

It seems the monks are in despair and have ventured beyond the pale of the teachings of the Buddha. Those days when there were demonstrations we used to see red shirts. Now that has been replaced by the saffron robe.

It is tragic that the philosophy of the Buddha has been sacrificed at the altar of political expediency and ethno religous facism. The Govt, Gotabhaya Rajapakse and BBS must take full responsibility for disgracing and devaluing this great religon.

To the outsiders it now seems that that the yellow robe is associated with terror just as muslims are branded terrorist due to the actions of Al Queda and the Taliban. Events in Sri Lanka and Myanmar have contributed to this perception. Religon is best practiced in mosques, temples, kovils and churches, or in ones home and private life, without interfering in secular matters of the state.

Good article. Sharmini writes about the encouragement of violence. No religion or philosophy needs defence. They have existed for thousands of years without (or in spite of) the efforts of puny men. They all have moral codes which are amazingly alike. Unfortunately men have always distorted these to suit their own ends. Followers of all major religions and philosophies have been guilty, at one time or another. The real issues here are of conscience-right and wrong. These are not negotiable.

It is just simple – Butchers cant work as Engineers or Lawyers. Their mind sets are not learnt to do so. Even if the man is said to have 40 years exp – nonetheless he has the capacity to foresee the future of the Island nation. Even if the terms of his predecessors failed to defeat the terror, those leaders had better vision whatever it was planned. Now though so called developments projects are being carried out – as it is the case with the poorest of the poor in the world Ethiopia – he will not address the real issues like society building, due rule of law enforcement or investing more into the education rather than road construction projects. They can only kill the animals and prepare the meat for sale. That is it so long brain of MR would not work properly, he will not be able to see solutions based on great vision. Either he has to seek the advice of good advisers or he has to leave the office- as Butchers leave for home after the butchery is done.

These little samaneres are nno different to Madrasas, teaching extreme nationalistic dogma to create an extreme buddhist sect.

When you are been labeled as a Sinhala Buddhist and the country belongs to them, what else one could expect from them.

But my point is for the whole 65 years after independence, we did not see this much of Nationalistic and Religious fanatical uprising.

Unless a strong backing from the top given to these samaneras and brainwashed them to be a rebelleous force, there would not have been this much of a change in their behaviour.

First of all 95% of them are either lower middle class or from poor families who are dependent on everything from the Pansala.

Second, they are been recruited from a very tender age like 5 years old and up, who are missing the love of their Parents, playing sports and games, depriving their innocence and freedom, having a monotonous life at a tender age etc, all of these are contributed as an easy prey to manupulate their brains and behaviour.

Therefore what I see here is a new generation of Governing of our country in the making.

Of couse there is over 75% as majority Sinhala and 72% as Buddhist and 60% as rural Sinhala population has a greater possibility of manipulating vote base and politics.

I certainly feel that this is another set of rulers and a political force in the making,…… but with a suprimists attitude sowing hatered against minorities and a power grab culture in the making.

This is another cult taking the country towards destruction.

Dismantling of our country will be inevitable.

Taliban mortar attack on our Banyan Buddha looks “Lite” in comparison to Jihadi Sharmanie’s demolition of our Buddhist clergy.

And this lady is just secretary of a heavy weight NGO.

Just imagine what her Bosses would do with their ” Common Candidate” of the Opposition Coalition, which Ms Sharmanie seems sure of rolling Rajapaksa.

It is a pity that Sharmanie and her Bosses didn’t call the Child Protection Agency at least ten years ago.

You an absolute fake aren’t you?

Could you please tell me the name of this “heavy weight NGO” where according to you Sharmini works as a secretary?

From what I know, Sharmini has never worked anywhere other than at the Peace Secretariat and at Rupavahini where she was also a renowned English newsreader for a long time.

As a former colleague and a close friend of Sharmini’s I know for a fact that she has also never worked as a Secretary anywhere and has definitely not worked for any NGO.

She has always been passionate about working only for the public sector even for a pittance and nowhere else.

The title of the post is unfortunately blasphemous. Only Satan in lanken Buddhism is BBS backed by GR and other idiots that seem to have no vision to see the impact of rebel BBS sympathisers.

If not these samanera are compelled to protest in this way- are they normally that violent going beyond the levels of same age non-samanera children ? This alone makes it further clear that BBS and their sympathisers abuse these little monks to tarnish the peaceful image of the lanken buddhists.
Ones who still hang on with BBS please interview most sacred prelates in the country and just come with a balanced statements whether the BBS^s actions to this date are helpful for the future of buddhist folks and alone the buddhism practising in SL.

We the buddists non-BBS sympathisers strongly believe that BBS is a deadly virus born to metastasize the entire buddhism in SL. In the same time making a violent picture to the outside world. These are calculated tactics practising by the stupid govt IC to convince that no post war reconciliation is easy in sl so long internal forces are becoming resistant as no other times in the past. With political seniors stay deaf further, IC will have to accept that internal forces stand on the way – not allowing any forms of reforms to get passed and implemented finally leading to durable peace for the war torn nation.

Just before Buddha attained enlightenment at age 35, the Satan Mara appeared and tried to seduce him with this and that and tried to lead him away from right path. “It is impossible to become a Buddha (an aware person), and to attain Nirvana. Instead of those, why don’t you be the emperor and a ruler of the world ? If you don’t want that, you should climb up to heaven and take my rank.”

Next, the Satan Mara sent his daughters, who are full of youth and beauty, to seduce Buddha. They said “Come on, let’s play together. It is no use attaining enlightenment through meditation,” but Buddha never wavered in his faith.
Then the gods of the heaven, who hadn’t approached while the Satan Mara was there, came up to Buddha and cerebrated by sprinkling him with colorful flowers. Interestingly, even the Satan Mara and his companions showed themselves, with pale faces, among the gods and were pleased with Buddha’s spirit.

The BBS and others are using children just like the LTTE did. The only solution is to have a minimum age of 21 for ordination.

As for scoundrels and thugs in robes, the solution is simple – all Buddhist priests should be registered as Christian priests are.

But who will carry out these reforms? The Mahanayakas? And will the politicians allow them to do so?

    • 0
      0

Yes, alone the fact seeing little ones enter the Buddhist temples in their younger age is seen as abuse children – to the eyes of western world. Though I am a born Buddhist I myself believe just because of rural poverty, small ones should NOT be donated to the temples making samanera. In that age, little ones need to go through a healthy bringing up in their childhood – else the consequences of their future can be not that successful. Latter is the view of child psychologists. So given the situation in SL, compelling these samanera to behave – as if the North Koreans mourned their leader^s death- is no means acceptable. Lanken Samanera are seen to be calm and quiet for our memories. But BBS^s involvement in manipulation of these little Samanera will have a great impact on their lives. Authorities including ministry of Buddhasasan should finally wake up and react to do the due.

Where has the minister of justice been ?

Where have the LAWYERS COLLECTIVE been ?

Above all where has the opposition of the parliament been ?

If Opposition does not seem to take the lead – what cant other bodies replace them ?

How many more should sacrifice their lives – majority of the folks to react against the brutal corrupted politicians in the country ?

In an atmosphere where BBS thuggish monks can lead all forms of violence – no talks about the child abuses of all forms in the name of protection of Buddhism. I myself have listened to some programs where child samanera were abused by their seniors.

What goes through their heads of child monks while screaming out as if they have been brutally assaulted ? – these pictures of child monks give a message about nothing else than abuses perpetrated by ones behind them. Who are they ? They are the lunatic monks blindly make worst being sympathisers of BBS.

Tamils or LTTERs to chase lanken innocent monks and attack them physically in India should NOT be and but these issues should be arranged through diplomatic missions adequately not to the manner new forms of violent culture being introduced to our young monks.

This is why Buddhism and Hinduism will always be light years ahead of Islam.

        Lester,

What is your grouse against Islam? Did you try to convert and get rejected?

YOU ARE LIGHT YEARS AHEAD. YOU ARE TRAVELLING FASTER THAN LIGHT SO YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN DARKNESS OF IGNORANCE.

The CIA’s World Factbook gives the world population as 7,021,836,029 (July 2012 est.) and the distribution of religions as Christian 33.39% (of which Roman Catholic 18.85%, Protestant 8.15%, Orthodox 4.96%, Anglican 1.26%), Muslim 22.74%, Hindu 13.8%, Buddhist 6.77%, Sikh 0.35%, Jewish 0.22%, Baha’i 0.11%, other religions 10.95%, non-religious 9.66%, atheists 2.01%. Ayman,

The CIA World Factbook has a lot of inaccuracies. It’s not a very reliable source of information.

Islam is the only religion in the world which is so comprehensive that it talks not only about spirituality and virtuous conduct but every area of secular life (governance, trade&commerce, banking, judiciary etc.) hence why are you surprised that it talks about Jihad (a just war). A just war is something that is a must (eg. if in defence) and Islam only provides glad tidings for those who take up a just struggle.

Eg. if i am condemned to die (like the tamils were in 83) by your BBS goons – I know that just because I am condemned to hell in this life I have something to look forward to in the next.

Why do you condemn the Afghanis for fighting, they have been invaded by the Russians and now by the Americans – why the double standards?

Religion has no meaning for the modern world. The only exception are banal things like meditation, which has been scientifically proven to enhance the nervous system.

You cannot prove that God exists, or that there is a heaven/hell or reincarnation, or anything. The more time you spend blindly believing these things, the more of your life you are wasting.

One time a Brahmin asked the Buddha ten famous questions, but Buddha did not give a direct answer. Even though many of these questions have actual relevency even today, such as the extent of the Universe. Buddha’s answer was that the answers to these questions do not make much difference to the quality of life. That is the way with religion; it does not add anything of substance to a person’s life. He/she only becomes more dependent, waiting for the next dose of hallucinogenic drugs.

          Lester,

Buddhism is a philosophy and NOT a religion.

            @ Peace Dove,

The organized practice of Buddhism is very much a religion.

              Lester,

What is your definition of “organized practice of Buddhism”?

Once a Bangladeshi worker in Saudi Arabia, who was a very devout Muslim told me that there will be a thousand virgins waiting for him in heaven. I asked him who told him this. He replied that this was taught to him in the village mosque in Bangladesh. He was a married man. I asked him how married life was? He replied it was difficult and that his wife was always grumbling. I then asked how could life in heaven be heavenly with one thousand wives living with him. He grinned and kept silent.

Comparing, all the Prime Ministers and Presidents we have had, Ranasinghe Premadasa, score points over the others on the communal amity front. Tamils who fled the South in the aftermath of July’ 1983 felt comfortable enough to return. The unbuddhistic, Buddhist monks were kept, where they should be ( though they should be disrobed and evicted from these institutions too) in their temples and pirivanas.

He allocated land near the old weaving mill in Havelock Town, for a Hindu Temple and Mosque to be built back to back. A Buddhist Shrine was also established in the vicinity. They exist in harmony to this day. He was genuine in his approach to achieving religious and communal amity and this struck a chord in many. Although he strangled the PC system in response to the India-encouraged Varadarajaperumal stupidity , forced the IPKF to leave , used the LTTE to achieve his objectives and paid the price with his life for his short honeymoon with the LTTE, he was genuinely tried to bring about communal amity.

MR is unable to touch base with the minorities in the same manner, because the required sincerity is not palpable. Further, Premadasa would not have permitted mad dogs a free run. They knew quite well how they would be dealt with. Premadasa was no saint, but he was a person who genuinely tried to fashion a different and more tolerant Sri Lanka.

You should also dwell into the history of Sir. John Kotelawela, who in his brief tenure as a Politician had his own inimitable way of keeping the Monks limited in the sphere of politics during his time.

What Sri Lanka is witnessing now is the demise of Theravada Buddhism and it’s replacement by Sinhala Buddhism. It has taken a long time coming but it’s rapid development in recent times is instigated by Mahinda Rajapaksa who learnt the new Buddhism as a child in the racist deep south. He is too political and selfish to stand up for what is right. It is our fate to suffer the consequences.

“As long as we have back bone less politicians such as Thondaman, Rauff Hakim, GL Peiris..” says our friend Park. I will not comment on the BB status of the other two desperate opportunists, but Arumugam Thondaman does not fit in there. Spoilt and debaucherous – hmm, may be. But BB – certainly not. Unlike the other two, AT has not changed parties. Neither did his grand dad, the much honoured senior.

Dav – Sometime ago it was reported they were running short of virgins in Muslim paradise and the virgin quota is slashed. To that extent CNN
ran a show about Taliban chiefs – each given a young boy for their earthly pleasure while they are hard at work in the front planning the massacre of those dirty American infidels. So, clearly those Catholic Fathers aren’t alone in the business.
