Cut Out The Cut-Out Heroes!

By Malinda Seneviratne

Malinda Seneviratne

Someone said that Ranil Wickremesinghe had ordered his ‘cut-outs’ to be dismantled. I haven’t seen any RW cut-outs. So if an order had been issued it must have been on the following lines: ‘Make sure there are no cut-outs of me!’

Whether any of this happened we do not know. One thing is certain: a Ranil Wickremesinghe larger-than-life would not attract. If a move was made, it was wise. If a move hasn’t been made, that’s wise too.

What’s disappointing is that RW hasn’t rapped the knuckles of the cut-out heroes in his party. It is disappointing because these very same worthies were howling not too long ago about Mahinda Rajapaksa’s cut-outs. Some of them said that cut-outs take away from the city’s beauty, never mind that they didn’t attribute the ‘beauty’ part of it to the very regime they vilified. But they were right. Beautification is no license for subsequent desecration.

Mahinda boardIt is funny, really. There’s Wijedasa Rajapakshe claiming that he is the Wise Man of the Parliament. ‘ප්‍රාඥයා’ (‘Praagnayaa’) actually translates as ‘intellectual’ but ‘wise man’ somehow goes better with the pomposity. This ‘wise man’ held membership in two political parties, both representing both the lumpen proletariat and the lumpen bourgeoisie.

He uttered not a word of protest about the dictatorial nature of the UNP Constitution. Nothing about the Central Bank bond issue. His intellect, sorry wisdom, appeared to have gone to sleep when Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed three party loyalists to inquire into the bond matter which implicated a hand-picked Governor and a hand-picked chairman of a bank who was also a party man. He went along with his leader’s attempt to institute an all powerful executive prime ministership in place of the much vilified all powerful executive presidency. He did his bit, wisely, to help scuttle electoral reform. He looked the other way when his party dumped the Right to Information Act. Wise. Very wise.

Then there’s Sujeewa Senasinghe, the copper-colored MP who has done nothing of significance in or out of Parliament. He claims or rather he has got his minions to claim that he is our future. One worries. Period.

Oh, Ravi! That’s Ravi K. K for Karunanayake. He’s a big boy. He’s gone to town. Lee Kuan Yew described Sri Lankan politics as a periodic auctioning of non-existent resources. He got it all wrong. Ravi K is bragging about doing what he has not done as though the doing/not-doing was all done with his own money even as the said money is essentially public funds. He’s a master at taking credit for what other people have (claimed to have) done. Check the hoardings. It’s Ravi who brought down prices (they are all up now, but that’s another matter) of less than a dozen items, some of which hardly figure in the average consumer’s desirable-list. He brought down the price of fuel, he would have us believe. He’s done everything.

And he’s cute. He’s even inserted a picture of the President (leader of the SLFP and not UNP, let us not forget) to decorate his brag. Smart. He is Mr Generosity Unlimited. Lovely.

Then there’s Upul Shantha Sannasgala grabbing the walls for his campaign. He’s used to it, being a well-known tuition master who has been peddling his wares in much the same way for several decades now.

There are others and no doubt we’ll see other wise and generous people from other parties including those who claim they too are our future laughing at us from walls and hoardings. But those other parties were supposed to be like that. The UNP was supposed to be different.

How could we forget Harin Fernando. He came to Colombo with a bunch of people. They came in ‘CTB buses’. Harin no doubt would have hired these buses. They remain public property though. Harin’s face was plastered all over those buses. That’s ‘difference’? A ‘better political culture’? What does the Wise Man say? What does the philanthropist say? What does the Man of the Future say?

So what has changed from the Rajapaksa days, huh?

    @ Malinda you ask

“So what has changed from the Rajapaksa days, huh?”

let me tell you a few things that were there in Rajapaksa time but no longer there mate

i)racist politics where Muslims were demonized by their pets the BBS

    ii)land grabbing

iii) Taking over private companies in the form of non-performance as an excuse

iv) Keeping the LTTE bogey alive when infact the LTTE is well and trull gone forever!

    v)Rampant corruption and croniyism

    vi)Family running the country

vii)White van culture is not there

viii)Freedom to protest unlike in MR time when protesters got killed in Katunayake and Rathupaswella

There you go Malinda Boy you can deny and whine and cry as much as you want kolla but things are better than Rajapaksa time !

I know its hard for you to see your paymaster on the losing side boy but hey dude thats life so grow up and be a man ;)

      @Peace Lover

      LTTE gone ???
LTTE is NOT gone. They are well and truly around and gathering their forces for the Happy Day when Ranil and his Western Cronies give them their hearts desire, on a plate. If you believe otherwise, you are living in cuckoo-land.

      Rampant Corruption
Your measure of corruption is colored by your unquestioning support of RW. If you baldly state there is not corruption in Sri Lanka today, well fortunately I don’t have to convince you since I can see the evidence for myself

      Cronyism
Hmm.. parliament dissolved just before a major corruption issue is to be investigated.. ? Smells like cronyism to me !

      Press Freedom ?
Yes, it’s better than in MR’s time. But that doesn’t stop the PM from threatening this very publication when the articles carried therein did not suit him

There you go Peacelover Boy you can deny and whine and cry as much as you want kolla but things are only marginally better than Rajapaksa time !

        hey maalu miris

well it seems thst you believe that the LTTE is around how silly of you machan (or is it Machini?) the ltte is gone as a fighting force the fellows (or rascals) who shout are some idiotic diaspora crowd and have no support, none of the SL tamils will ever support the LTTE and without local support they can never ever re-group or form ,in any case the fighting forces have been eliminated so no threat

as for corruption,it cannot be eliminated 100% from poor countries like SL but under RW its much much less than it was under MR

as for the Bond issue i agree with you on that

good to see people like Malinda who said Mahinda saranang gatchchami for last 10 years had now become ambassadors of of yahapalanaya. Questioning every nut and bolt which does not go in line with yahapalanism.

      CT

My comment was sent in anger. I am angry because CT is giving a platform to those promoting the worst in society. Malinda is one of those – who does not have a grain of sincerity in his thoughts or words.

“My comment was sent in anger.”

You need to go for an anger management course. This island rages on a 24/7/52 basis.

“I am angry because CT is giving a platform to those promoting the worst in society.”

You should be happy CT is helping to expose the worse in human nature.

    Cut Out The Cut-Out Heroes!

They should have Cut outs of Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka,

After all he was the Hero who sad that LTTE could be defeated.

That is why Maha Mootal Verran Velupillai Prabakaran, wanted to kill him, and not Mahinda Rajapaksa., after All, Mahinda Rajapaksa, gave money to his Buddy VP through Titan Alles and Emil Kanthan.

Pallewatta Gamaralalage Maithripala Yapa Sirisena , the country’s chieftain , who betrayed the 6.2 million people who voted to elect him as the president on 8th January, and thereby blasted all their hopes and aspirations, despite his promise to make an announcement today in defense of his villainous action , has so far made no signs of honoring this promise.

Pallewatta Gamaralalage Maithripala Yapa Gon Sirisena

MaRa MaRa Chatu MaRa Amana MaRa Chatu SiRa Amana SiRa Gon SiRa…

Some things have changed while other things haven’t Mr. Malinda SeneviRotten.
What hasn’t changed is that you are still a shill and loyal laptop journalist for MR and his crooks.
What has changed is that in the last 6 and a half months, no journalists or privated citizens have been white vanned and killed or held to ransom. Although no one here on CT would ever miss you if you were ever abducted. :D

“Although no one here on CT would ever miss you if you were ever abducted. :D”

Its not the nicest thing to say to a very very senior journalist. We won’t miss him if he stops typing however don’t wish him ill.

Think about the person whoever wishes to abduct him. Why would he/she want him abducted?

Would you like the abductor to suffer even if its a brief period?

Cutout with Ranil was removed from MCDonalds junction at Rajagiriya on SUnday evening. There was a contingent from Police who gave security and workers removed it. Yes UNP candidates have put cut outs but obviusly they are not even 5% of what Mahinda put just for himself as shown in the photo. That would be a difference in Sri Lankan politics….the reason that UNP is the target is target of all his articles is that UNP is going to win this election

Malinda – Good critique of Ranil and the UNP and their pre-election deeds. Now do us the favor of doing a similar critique on Mahinda and his henchmen.

In the meantime adjust your dress, your slip is showing – not that that is unusual!

Believe me, it was so disgusting to see the Photoshop or chopped Rajakapkse hoardings every meter like a stray dog no one gives greater care during the election time; I was avoiding the parliament road (pictured above) for almost three weeks!!!

But it didn’t work did it? It proves the Sri Lankan voter is astute and that one can’t fool all the people all the time. Mahinda Rajapakse is on a hiding for nothing – going after the lowly position of a Prime Minister after being The President for 10 years. His only objective I am sure is to save himself and his cohorts from the prison that awaits them for the bribery, corruption, abductions, murder and War Crimes they committed during their tenure.

Your cut-out story doesn’t cut through the voters as you cunningly expect. Your excitement is understandable as feel your boss is in a striking distance now, having obtained the nominations in UPFA.

As for the question of “So what has changed from the Rajapaksa days, huh?”- No laptops offer or acceptance.

It is heartbreaking to see a good journalist like Malinda Seneviratne corrupted by the gift of a meagre Laptop. Perhaps there was more. Or, are we seeing the real Malinda now and all those humanitarian articles of old were a sham.

Malinda who is singing the praises of Rajapakse for the free computer he got must be blind. He is calling Ranil the cut-out hero. Was there ever a bigger cut-out hero than Mahinda Rajapakse in the history of Sri Lankan politics. Malinda is a classic example of an educated FOOL.

    Malinda
You cannot be a good journalist being deaf, dumb and blind.
    That is what you are.

When i read your articles, I can see you have one perception.

    You dont see beyond that.

I agree and thank CT for accommodating everyone in this forum. That is “Democracy” in action, the one that was thrown into the spittoon by MR & Co. (Unlimited) during that regime.Hopefully, this time around all the people have decided and will rally to “Throw” these “Roughs”; “Criminals”; “Drug Peddlers”; “Rapists”; “Murderers” whose names appear in those Nomination Lists filed by the “MR & Co. (Unlimited)” together with its “Managing Director” and other “Share Holders” into the ABYSS. One “Share Holder” has already tasted what is in stock for him when he had to be rushed to Navaloka Hospital after suffering with “Breathing Difficulties” and “Lowering of Blood Sugar” while attending a “Limited Share Holder Meeting” presided over by the “Managing Direct”. The PEOPLE of “ETHUGALPURA” ( KURUNEGALA )are waiting to TEACH this Managing Director the lesson that he could not learn on January 08th 2015.
