Dambala Amila Thera As A Common Candidate!

By Kumar David –

Prof. Kumar David

Prof. Kumar David

In a surprise move (expect many more in the coming months) Ven Dambara Amila Thera, convenor of the AIMP, has declared that the JVP has requested him to come forward as a Common Candidate (CC) of the opposition, and he would be happy to do so if sufficient numbers backed him. This is what a report in the Ceylon Today newspaper reported in its front page on 3 June. The Thera, according to the report, went on to make some pretty revealing comments. “Abolishing the Executive Presidency was not the sole reason” he is reported to have said.  “Improving infrastructure development, establishing the independence of the judiciary, creating a platform for good governance and a people friendly economy based on local production and manufacturing merged with new technology” were stated as reasons for his candidacy!

Dambara Amila Thera

Dambara Amila Thera

Oh so the good Thera envisages implementing a full governmental programme! Oh so if he wins he will remain Executive President for six years to do all this! If EP is abolished straight away what is the good Thero’s role? None!

This is the same trick that Ranil is trying. Do the two of them think the people of Sri Lanka are so dumb as not to see through his ploy? Respected Thera, are you offering yourself as a Common Candidate for the express purpose of forthwith abolishing the Executive Presidency, or do you have ambition to be president for six years to implement yoru programme? You and your sponsors, the JVP, must answer this question first, with no iffs-and-buts, before anyone can take you seriously.

      Nas,

      I got an idea:

Since bhikkus are coming forward to contest for the presidency, why not promote one of the Mahanayakes to contest.

After all, they have the ultimate power of Sinhala Buddhist majoritarianism, and the job Sinhala Buddhistization of the island can be done by them perfectly.

The President is directly elected by the people. So, he 100% responsible not just for the budget but for the entire government as well. If people do not like his handling of Sri Lanka finances, he ‘ll be defeated at the next Presidential election.

Banda, the next President may not be elected by the people. Our Gandasara and his saffron army are preparing to save the Sinhala-Buddhist nation and they are (as many would know) trying to get as many of the armed forces onside. But ‘he who’s name must be whispered’ is keeping a close grip on his men and it would be interesting to see whether ‘El Commandante’ wins the hearts of his men and takes over our fortunes our blessed island while the present holder of kurakkan satakaya retires to spend time looking after his keera kottuwa.

Does not Thiru remember that occasion, a few years ago, when the Mahanayakas gathered up what goes as their backbones, showed some surprising courage and
were about to organise that Great Congress of the Buddhist Sangha (or some such name) in Kandy in response to the great and palpable dissatisfaction of the suffering people against the venal Rajapakse family. The wily Rajapakses knew whom to use to scare the daylights out of the Mahanayakas. They carefully chose and sent that thug, the Sinhala champion of the July 1983 pogrom against Tamils, Elle Gunawansa – who threatened “rivers of blood” at the abode of both Malwatte and Asgiriya unless the Mahanayakas withdrew the event. Our Ayatollahs being the bayagullahs they are, promptly went into their caves – with tails turned in their backs. That was the end of the Buddhist opposition to the Rajapakse gangster raj. The Kandy Postal authorities also connived with the Rajapakse conspiracy and later revealed the 40,000 letters meant to be posted to the different temples in the country inviting those priests to be present in Kandy, were never even posted. So much so for the neutrality and honesty of our postal services.

There is no chance of the Mahanayakas coming out to protect the
country – whatever happens to it. Sir John, the visionary, knew the true worth of these priests and openly said what he had to – with due respect to some of them who are loyal and committed to the Dhamma even to the day. The Mahanayakas are only good to conspire against and threaten, in different ways, the Tamils in the land – and, otherwise, live the good life. Remember the advise they gave the rowdy BBS when they called on the Mahanayakas. At least C.A. Chandraprema, who has the savvy to know what is happening in the name of Buddhism, had the guts to call them what they are.

Oh no, don’t under estimate them. If you want them out on a mission to save the island just leak/plant a story in Sinhala/English media with a headline

” Government is in secret talks with TNA with a view to finalising extending powers to North East Provincial Councils”

          See what happens.

NICE idea, Thiru; One small flaw. Running this country requires CUNNING and BALLS. Our Mahanayakes have one but not the other. Back to to the drawing board, I suppose.

Amila Thero has a good track record in many areas. He can surely stake a competitive claim to be the Common Candidate. Though not the only one.

We will never find the perfect candidate. We will have to compromise. All of us. Here and there. Given and take.

We can have a robust campaign to select the Common Candidate.

Once that person is chosen, we must unite behind that person’s banner. Period. Anything else will be suicidal.

The goal is kicking out uncivilized Hambantota Clan from corriddors of power in Colombo. Priority Number One!

All other matters can be settled between civilized citizens of Sri Lanka in a democratic, non-violent manner.

      Hopefully.

      Cheers!

        Ben Hurling,

“Amila Thero has a good tract record……..All other matters can be settled between civilized citizens…..non violent manner.”

Wonderful choice! A JVP cat’s paw used to rake and grab EP jack seed, the cat’s paw and the people will burn and perish while the JVP monkeys would rein in, devoid of any proven track record, established and tested political system and policies except opportunistic political whims and fancies married and marred with terror tactics. The great socialist political theoretician AKD rushed to the West recently to lecture about Socialist Governance without even touching China, Russia or Cuba on his way. China is said to be the ill-bred child of socialism and surely Dambaras and Amilas would create new kind of socialism-a hybrid of violence, arson, chit-politics, ID card waylaying, alliance building with capitalism, plug removing and plug inserting….We were already entertained a peep through to what Dambara is going to achieve-not just abolition of EP but a whole host of complete overhauling measures including constitution writing, infrastructure development, law and order restoration…..only in just a matter of few months! And Ben Hurling is hurling his glee at Amila at the fate deciding wee-hours of the country. I heard RW too is going to contest! So I compared the two. An energetic cat’s paw in worldly pleasures renouncing yellow attire, being very vocal in a few important struggles of the youths forgetting he meaning, function and duty of his garb, bartering Buddhism for banal struggles and cutting a small niche to do more mischief, in future under JVP of course, with RW and could find any reason why Amila given primacy over RW.

      Prof. Kumar David,

Why don’t you like the Mahinda Rajapaksa Family Dictatorship, in the Land of the Native Vedddah?

The Para-Sinhala are happy with it? They get screwed every day, along with the Para-Tamils and Para-Muslims.

“Why do you feel jealous of this ven. Thero . If you have gutts and backing you could become a common candidate . “

These appears some popular(shallow) ways of defending their opinions. Basically commentators who write like this do not bother to substantiate their point. I really can not understand, if Prof. Kumar is being jealous, how is that being shown here. He is taking about two peoples they both on two different poles. Nobody ever did know if Prof. Kumar had expressed any interest in presidential candidacy. When those two points are well known, Without attempting to show any evidence blaming him as jealous person is absolutely ridiculous. It is a pointless silly behavior of the Royal Government’s propaganda techniques.

Prof. Kumar, Prof. Laksiri…. have been proposing of eliminating EP and to fulfill that obect placing a common candidate in the election for some time on this site. When UNP leader broke away from that and proposed that he will be the common candidate, that makes everybody who wrote about common candidate is an idiot. Now JVP bringing up Amila Thero. JVP earlier said they can not accept a party candidate as common candidate. So they must make sure, before they propose somebody, that person is free from party colors.

Prof. Kumar has point to write here. If somebody has a point to say why they are becoming jealous? That is because Royal Propaganda machine is scared of people who want set up an object and work.

    Nas,
Prof David is only trying to say that the present state of affairs is a result of the existence of the Executive Presidency which grants the premier almost unlimited powers.
If we just swap the person, it would not resolve any of the problems you have mentioned in your comment. Ie: the nation’s wealth will go into the Thera’s coffers than MR’s
The first step of the solution to our nation’s woes should be the abolition of EP.
But power is the most intoxicating among all known drugs…..

Ok, let’s analyze the cat. It never gained any strengths of its own but it know how to control more and more stupid masses, the stupid criminals who are used and disposed of, the stupid buggers in the police and the army who wield gun barrel and the judiciary with shameful and corrupt to the neck traitors of the nation. This is how the cat operates. If the rats know this and deny the cat the support and criminal collusion the cat will starve to death. Rajapakshas themselves would have to take to the streets and shoot the people which is impossible to do.

JVpers are JVpers. They will not change. They are not sincere or honest. Look at the ex JVpers such as Wimal Weerawansa, Mahinda Wijesekara. The new leader is of the same mould. Listen to what he says in his recent interviews given in UK. He approves the decision taken by Chandrika Bandaranayake in 2004 to oust a democratically elected government in just 2 years. He justifies Chandrika’s(president’s) decision by saying that Ranil(P.M.) was going to give the Tamil speeking people autonomy. These guys have no principles. They have a bloody inferiority complex. They would not mind the present president even continues indefinitely as long as the executive presidential system is intact for there survival. As such, they will try to scuttle the genuine attempt taken by the venerable Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera to abolish the executive presidential system.

          Thanks

Why is this lying former terrorist lying to us?

Has he gone there to raise funds hoping to relaunch another round of large scale slaughter?

Sinhala/Buddhist diaspora should be aware of his blood soaked hands. Those who shook hands with this man (who justified revolutionary violence) are also terrorists.

How many innocent people did he kill in the process of becoming the leader of JVP? Has this new leader renounced their outdated racist ideology and mode to achieve it, revolutionary violence?

This is another racist totalitarian party leader.

            Native,

What JVP says in public forums these days often feels like music to a lot of Sri Lankans, fed up of utterly corrupt SLFP & UNP.

One is tempted to believe their violent past is behind them.

However, I too have deep rooted doubts about how they will behave once in power. Though I believe in a second/third chance for the JVP.

I am very apprehensive about putting the JVP in a commanding position over the Armed Forces. Though AKD often reminds me of Evo Morales of Bolivia these days.

Nevertheless, Sri Lanka needs JVP’s political energy & dynamism. They are not corrupt. They love the country. Though in their own weird way.

            Cheers!

PS: Native, I have never seen you having a similar outburst against the TNA. You have a soft corner for the TNA?

              Ben Hurling

“Native, I have never seen you having a similar outburst against the TNA. You have a soft corner for the TNA?”

Sorry I have no time for TNA since they do not enjoy commanding heights of power. Since 1982 Hindia systemically undermined them debased and replaced their democratic support base, superimposed VP and LTTE on the people, helped built a cult figure, reducing the people to circus monkey, ………… and got them killed in large numbers. From 1948 to 1982 it was the Sinhala/Buddhist state’s constant undermining of Tamil polity buy refusing to deal with their reasonable demand let to the involvement of Hindian (groping neighbour). The Tamil leadership never had any power to effect or change Sinhala/Buddhist racist policies.

Since 2009 specially Wiggy was elected with overwhelming majority the Sinhala/Buddhist state continues to undermine his political authority by denying his reasonable demand.

Tamils never had any real power to effect changes in this island since independence, put right what was wrong (Sinhala only language policies, cultural rights, and other). In between LTTE never allowed them to express their democratic rights, in fact paid a heavy price, thanks to Hindians. After a long period of alienation, TNA needs time to re-establish as democratic party of the people. Now how do you do it while Premachandran (EPRLF), Sivagilingam (TELO), Douglas (EPDP), Ananti(Husband LTTE), Sidhardan (PLOTE) & other groups propped by Gota who do not enjoy popular support, have been hounding the Tamils just because once they were willing to die for the Tamil cause(????)?

Since TNA is a powerless representative of a section of people let them find their feet first then give us a chance to hammer them appropriately, especially when they support any anti people, racist, anti freedom, ……. policies or display any separatist tendencies. Note Hndia is not for Tamil Eelam right now, but it could change its policies when situation demands. My point here is that don’t give Hindians an excuse to intervene.

Please note I have no reason to support or be kind to any particular party or person as you know unlike others I still can see beyond my nose, though I am bit thick. This is due my eating habit, especially the amount of honey I consume on regular basis and the consultation I regularly have had with my Elders. You too should try both.

I reserve the right to poke fun at others whenever I see, double standards, hypocrisy, blatant lies, arrogances, war crime denial, violation of human rights, pseudo historians, pseudo public intellectuals …… .

Whatever you do please stop buying second hand cars from Gota.

              Good day.

The only person who can defeat MARA is none other than the former CJ. The opposition parties should support her. The opposition parties should sign an MoU with her. The objectives are:
The common candidate should abolish EP; conduct a parliamentary election; hand over executive power to the parliament. She can complete the tenure as ceremonial President and go back to her beech as CJ!

    • 1
      1

      Real Peace,
Yours is the best suggestion so far.
She has no political ambition, her integrity is unquestionable, she knows the law, and,is a sinhala Buddhist.
The common man will vote for her.

      • 0
        0

        Justice,

I wouldn’t say she has ‘unquestionable’ integrity because she did play along with the Rajapakses until her family got into a disagreement with them.

Anyway, while she is a not a bad choice from among those available, does she have enough name recognition nationally or campaigning experience–and enough ground level organizational support from major parties–to make a serious challenge and win?

Since she hasn’t even started yet, I doubt she can build up enough of a profile in rural areas in the time that remains before elections. But if she contests with CBK as her deputy, or vice versa (with the understanding that after abolishing EP, if she goes back to being the CJ, CBK could stand for PM), that may help garner enough rural votes. Unlike the ex-CJ, CBK knows how to campaign and has ample name recognition already.

But the UNP will probably not support that without one of their own playing a major role. So they all have to come to a public, legally enforceable, written agreement on the proper roles for the Ex-CJ, CBK and Ranil, in the event their alliance wins the elections. That could include the PM position as well as the role of Speaker, as that will instantly become very powerful once the EP is abolished.

Forgive me Real Peace and Justice. As CJ the former female CJ played ball with crooks from her high position – got favours for her unemployable husband and tried her hand in that racket to get those Trillium luxury Apartments.
She may know some law but can hardly express herself in English.
Mara and DMJ run miles from the media when they are abroad. Are you asking for another one to disgrace the country. As someone described her, she is nothing more than an educated kussiamma who tries to trade on her maiden name. Surely the law should apply to her as anyone else if our legal system is to be taken serious.

The last sentence in my posting, should be:

“She can complete the tenure as ceremonial President or go back to her bench as CJ!”

Her typical and innocent Sri Lanka smile alone would force even the Rajapakse supporters to swing!!

I just do not understand why Kumar David et al do not seem to promote our ‘former’ CJ as the common presidential candidate of the opposition.

    David,

Did it take that long to realize Ranuil’s tricks?.

Didn’t he play his ace trick by putting poor Fonny in front and slowly pushing Sambandan to be the side kick?.

How come Fonny doesn’t get a mention nowadays by the UNP or the JVP who went around promoting the Fonny Samba duo as the next best thing for our inhabitants since sliced bread.

Why don’t you write something useful for our inhabitants,

Like burying this 13 A with the TNA and coming up with a modern multi cultural, multi lingual system which has equal rights for very one regardless of colour, caste, class creed , or ethnicity so that the future generations can live in a prosperous Lanka as equals with the same material comforts which the Diasporians enjoy.

A brief response to Mr/Ms Nas, Mr/Ms Silva and others who have made similar points.

Please Nas, don’t you see what I am saying? EITHER declare yourself a candidate for a full-term Executive Presidency, OR say you will abolish EP asap . . . and then what are your plans after EP disappears?

Silva, a similar point. Ranil is ambiguous and ever changing on the abolish-EP issue. The UNP Leadership Council issued a statement last week declaring EP a horror and saying it must be abolished at once. Then Ranil declares he is “contesting the Presidency” with obvious implication he intends to govern for a full term. What’s going on?

Now Mahinda has offered Sobitha an all expenses paid medical trip to go abroad! The SI-CC issue is hotting up. The Pakses are running scared. A clear-cut no-nonsense winner to abolish EP and call parliamentary elections under a revised constitution is the need of the hour.

    • 1
      0

      Kumar David,

You and many others may have various favourite ideas about EP and its abolition or continuation. It is the officially expressed opinion of UNP that EP would be abolished. In fact it is the only political party which is engaged in the drafting of a new constitution inviting inputs from interested parties in the event they come to power. They have proposed few (three) modalities and in fact the recent visit RW undertook to MIT also covered some aspects of this constitution building process. The irony of fate is that we are still debating over EP swiftly crafted by JR within a short period. Though with a few blemishes he ruled the country with that EP and achieved many things for the country. Compared to bloody rogue MARA he was pure gold in corruption index. What went wrong with his thinking was that he never expected a loony like RP or a rogue like MARA would hold this high office. Why did JR create this EP? He had a vision and a need to make this country developed and prosperous, with a vibrant economy, harbours, factories etc. He knew the backward thinking of the then people of the country would jeopardize that march causing breaking of governments by opportunist politicians. The need was felt for a strong government hence he created it but he did not misuse it but used for the good of the country. The successive holders of EP made a mockery of it and used it to destroy the democracy and everything the country had. What exists today is not the one JR created by a deformed juggernaut full of unrestrained evil power.

MARA is doing everything within and outside his power to cling on to power. Power is life and death for him them and all the criminals and thieves of the regime. They are devising various devious dubious and subtle tricks to weaken and subvert the opposition to the regime. They are devising all the tricks in the book. In Rajapaksha Sri Lanka infested with uneducated masses wasting their vote for a rice packet and a bottle of arrack plus 500 or 1500 rupees one cannot honestly say I am this, what I do is this and give me vote. One has to meet the Rajapaksha gimmickry and dishonesties. So don’t expect RW to speak his heart out and be very genuine and honest with you.

We will have to judge him by what he is, his incorruptible character and nature, honesty, political wisdom, principles, his economic and political vision, his experience and exposure, his ability to deal with the outside world to gain advantage for the country, his enterprising quality, his track record in office, his achievements while holding office and finally the trend analysis i.e. where would the political data associated with his character point to (here don’t consider the fake data of fake elections Rajapakshas have systematically conducted and planted in the gullible psyche of the country)

Everyone is talking of an unknown Common Candidate. This CC is an unknown quantity. No one knows what this unknown CC would turn out to be. When one considers the so called master blaster Sanath Jayasuriya who gave everybody supreme thrill when he blasted the opposite teams out of the park has turn out to be the head blaster of Ruhunu Campus boys and girls this CC business gets more and more tricky. JVPers are giving all the indications that they are going to put their own candidate or Dambara Amila would be their CC. As you said that joker is going to solve all the problems in the country within 3 months in addition to repealing EP! To do all that he would probably need at least 12 years! This stupid idea provides a clear understanding of the JVPers political knowledge and policies. With this, JVPers are effaced from the political landscape of Sri Lanka. SF is dreaming he can still take revenge by snatching power. May be RW wants to retain the interest of run down political parties like JVP by playing a card or two. When JVPers hear this they would have to reconsider taking a risk walking alone; they would be forced to come to a common alliance or to choose to perish separately but collectively as a country . Who knows? RW too has some cards up in his sleeve. So in such a political situation or political anarchy RW who has ruled the country and who knows the implications of governance may be adjusting to the ever changing political pulse of the country. Doing politics is not a static, stone inscribed permanent set of views and measures but rather a changing evolving set of progressive moves in sync with the pulse needs and wellbeing of the people and the country.

JR is not an innocent meerkat. Absolute, dangerous dictator. Destroyed helpless Dudley to come to power. That Drunkard died by heart attack by the opposition leader’s agitation. When JR grabbed the power, he destroyed SLFP and Srima. He destroyed TULF and Amirthalingam. He conducted 1977 and 1983. In 1983 publicly addressed if he destroy Tamils his peoples will be happy. Then he brought the PR system to make sure Nobody other than the UNPers can come to power. Then he picked up on Mrs.Gandhi. That is how he, at end end, brought a check for his unlimited goon-ism.

Basically everything on this constitution is some nightmare created by the monstrous dictator JR. 18 amendment is the only one brought by King. His did know, The Lanka leader before him, Srimavo was most dangerous Prime Minister in the history of Lanka. So he disenfranchised her civil rights. With that lesson he taught to Srimavo, to protect himself, he embedded laws that are preventing suing a president for the murders he committed during his dictatorship.

Other than Dudley there was no honest leader was ever elected by Mahavamsa Modayas. JR was 100% well aware what a genie he was creating.

EP is not bad at all. But protecting an EP for the mistakes he does during the term is not available in democratic countries. I Still remember that the Senior Governor Cuomo said about Clinton’s word “I did not have sex with that woman”. He said, if Clinton did not resolve that lie, when he get off from the power, he will end up paying dearly for that. So he suggested that Clinton should resolve(make a deal with opponents) it in White House itself. JR created this system for Lanka only to protect all the crimes he did at Temple Trees. He did not even the feature comers will going to be protected the laws he was creating. But it is true, that he thought that laws may go dormant as he had fixed PR election system so that no nasty and at the same time intelligent person can come to power. But, crooked King beat the JR on that.

          Mallaiyuran,

I managed to read your broken English harangue with difficulty. You surely must have some nightmarish experience with JR or someone related to Dudley family.

“JR is not an innocent meerkat.”

Absolutely! He was an astute and shrewd politician, an impressive orator, a great and learned leader who wrote a constitution, introduced a new economy, eradicated poverty, built a city in his name, built the country’s parliament, resurrected and empowered UNP, created a hierarchy of five leaders for the country, pioneered the recreation of Japan after world war and when he departed donated his wealth to Buddha Sasana! This could be the ultimate wish of any leader in any civilized country in the world would wish for! Your barking at the mountain would not make it lean.

“. Absolute, dangerous dictator. Destroyed helpless Dudley to come to power destroyed SLFP and Srima. He destroyed TULF and Amirthalingam. He conducted 1977 and 1983.. Then he brought the PR system to make sure Nobody other than the UNPers can come to power. His did know, The Lanka leader before him, Srimavo was most dangerous Prime Minister in the history of Lanka. So he disenfranchised her civil rights. With that lesson he taught to Srimavo, to protect himself, he embedded laws that are preventing suing a president for the murders he committed during his dictatorship.”

You urgently need medical attention before you go completely nuts. You perfectly complete and balanced political knowledge so conveniently forget what Senanayakes did to JR when they conspired and did everything they could to defeat JR at Kelaniya which is the only defeat he suffered. If I were JR I would fuck the Senanayake fuckers’ throats out! Only a political brat with zero knowledge would say and believe SLFP and Sirima are meerkats. Elsewhere in your own gibberish you say “The Lanka leader before him, Srimavo was most dangerous Prime Minister in the history of Lanka.” What the hell are you trying to prove? Wasn’t it the way a dangerous prime minister has to be dealt with? Didn’t you know how the SLFP Sirima housewife ruled the country absolute impunity, without any regard for law and order and completely politicizing the country, police and every democratic space? It is this bloody SLFP padanguwa that dragged the country to the drain, created ethnic problem, deprived Sinhalese the English education, led the country down the garden path through manioc cultivations and for such a pathetic racist political concoct like SLFP what better way there is to deal with it than to completely destroy the putrefaction. Yes that is exactly why JR created the EP: never to give power again to mongol, imbecilic, uneducated kallathoni SLFPers.

“He conducted 1977 and 1983” Yes, in 1977 JR fucked the housewife’s party and took the power. Rather it is the people who fucked the garbage and you better ask the people why they did it. 1983? What a muck blocked brain do you have? Bloody India, pursuing its regional hegemony aspirations dragged by the feet of JR preventing Sri Lanka from becoming an economically strong country in the region, colluding and creating the ethnic problem by harbouring and training LTTE. The minds and outlook of Tamils were taken prisoner and they were dragged to a confrontation with the Sinhala government and people. India played ethnic card kindled and fuelled by the roguish Bandas and imbecilic SLFPers. The Sinhalese fuckers were a very happy nation when they get a chance to attack and kill innocent minorities. So JR let the racist buffaloes in the country to release their simmering hate thereby clearing some of the headaches. I do not personally like this but this was the inevitable outcome of the racial flames that were set in motion.

You must be a blood relative of Dudley because you cry so much for him. But don’t weep because you cannot bring him to life again. First try to live with the present and facts and do not escape into fantasies and daydreams. Try to cast your vote for the least corruptible person with promise for our future. Don’t be cynical about your past, past political leaders who have done some service to the country and try to engage in some constructive dialogue. I wish I could write in greater details but could not afford time due to busy works.

You have written lot of Rubbish. I accept I do not have answers for them. But let me try one or two of them.

            1. Dudley may have been related to me when we were in the Hindus Valley; But after we two separated to south and east of India, I do not know what happened then.

2.About my nightmare of JR, I went back to home in 1977 and 1983 and stayed at home one month in North each time. In 1983, when I was going back home, I was determined not come back to Colombo. I went home and told my mom that I didn’t like to return to my work. She went to all temples and lighted Camphor, praying that I should get an alternate job that would like to go.

After a month, one day, around a little past of noon, I was lying inside the home, nothing to do. The postman, who had come and delivered the mail in the morning, come again and rang his bicycle bell. I was lazy to get up. She was somewhere outside, quickly went to him. He had brought a telegram. She asked postman what it was about. He was replying that her son is going to be fired if he was not showing up to work in two days. By this time I had reach them too. She looked very desperate and in front of the postman she asked me if I like to go back. I did not say anything but nodded as yes, and started walk back, not taking the telegram from the postman (that was addressed to me.) She was still talking to the postman. I might have passed few steps; I heard she was telling to postman that her God had answered her prayers, that I have got my job back. I felt like that I should return back to her yell if that is how her god had found me out an alternate job for me. But, that time I controlled my anger. Went home and patiently packed everything and left to Colombo next day.

I was expecting see some long faces at the work place. But my boss behaved right the opposite. I openly told him that I did not like to come to Colombo that was why I did not come to work. After a certain period of passed time, I started see her Camphor lights appearing in front my eyes again. I wrote to her about that. She asked me to go home. I replied back negatively. She, first time in her life, caught a train and came to Colombo to see me. She cried.

I was boarding in a plane, it was after an hour so last seeing her Camphor lighting face. I was being liberated from the hell of the nightmares I was having for long time. When I took my second leg in, I turned back to see if the Camphor lighting face still appearing anywhere there. It was not there. All what I saw was JR’s hell or that nightmare land, the Lanka. I felt like I should spit on that once. But, I could not because the Korean air-hostess eyes were looking at me. Now, I have been looking at face of this new strange world. I was entering into a new life. The camphor lighted face has gone far away from my life. I never had another chance of seeing it. She wrote to me many times to go see her. This time I wanted and wrote to her many times positively. But, the life was like if the dog was chasing, the stone was not to be found, but, when the stone was found the dog was no longer chasing, it had gone to sleep. I realized when she lighting the Camphor she asked her god only for an alternate job so that I never have to return to Colombo again, which I told her time that I did not like. But, she looks like failed ask that still she would like me to go and see her at through Chennai and Palali. That was the end of the nightmares of JR’s time.

Let me answer for the last paragraph too, After all how to miss it because that was only one written with some sense out of that long essay.
As far as Tamils are concerned, there is no talk of less corrupted. There is a saying in Tamil “When the water is standing above the nose, there is no point in debating whether if it is an inch, or is it a foot.” They all mean sure death for Tamils. May be there is still some hope left in the south, but nothing for Tamils.

King is going bring the brother prince to parliament. the entire Tamil web Medias have printed a news that reads “Dr.Dayan Jeyathilaka’s opinion is that the North will become Gaza if Gota push through his way into the Cabinet”. Nobody will be able to stop this. How can Tamils ignore this as past? It Sound like ” Old is no longer Gold; worst is yet to come; or on its way.”

Tamils have determined their destiny in 1976. There is no more buying any promise from anybody. I think the King has opened many people’s eyes. Not just Tamils’, many Sinhalese’s too. When DS disenfranchised Tamil, SJV envisaged all what is happening today. Basically, the following is one of the speeches he made in Tamil in one meeting of mid-1970s. I was listening to him. He repeated these same unattractive words on many stages. “Sinhalese willing to destroy Tamils, even if that amounts of their destruction also. We have lost our hope of negotiating with them. They tore the pacts they made with me. I negotiated with SLFP. I negotiated with UNP. This time I am disappointed with Dudley Senanayake’s conduct. We unwillingly participated in the UNP government, hoping that would encourage them to honor their promises. But Dudley Senanayake did not do anything different from SWRD Bandaranaike did to us. Now, I have come to the conclusion that we cannot live united with Sinhalese any more. We have every right to determine our path. Our representation was not received in the new constitution making process. I challenged the new constitution in the parliament and resigned my MP post. This resignation is about the right of the Tamils peoples. By refusing to conduct the by election, Mrs. Srimavo Bandaranake is refusing the Tamils rights.”
I still remember his Tamils sentence he said that the Sinhalese are going to destroy us and as well as them too. That is not just the only reason Tamils were always used to wonder about his foresightedness. He always makes small speeches on the stages. In that meeting, basically that all what he said. One thing appeared to my mind that time is, if he was feeling guilty of having participated in Dudley’s government and got cheated, when few years ago he resigned from DS’s government for cheating, and formed his party against ATC, which wanted to stay with UNP. But, soon he changed his mind, made peace with GG and Thondaman and formed TULF and convened the Vaddukkooddai Mahaanaadu. Tamils right to self-determine was proclaimed there. That was a decision made by 25 years of thinking. So, there is no point in going back of beyond Vaddukkooddaai Mahaanaadu. Earlier, in that by election VP had spent a large amount a money he received from Srimavo, including for developments projects like Allaveddy-Mallakam MPCS to some other trifling beautification process too. But the unbelievably high margin received in the election by SJV was interpreted in vaddukkooddaai as the Tamils demand for freedom, not for developments. From that day, Tamils did not move from their object.

Those entire crowds that stands for the elections are well aware of how bad the opposition is. So they are very confident of how low they can go. As said earlier, if no to Srimavo, then the available option is JR. In this environment, no one can forget the past. The future is continuing to be the forceful reinforcement of the past.

              Mallaiyuran,

“..You have written lot of Rubbish. I accept I do not have answers for them. But let me try one or two of them..” !?

I take exception to my usual way of replying to this kind because as a Sinhalese-although I do not care about this fucking nationality craze-with whom you Tamil people have this snake-mongoose internecine struggle and bitter love-hate relationship I could address some things of mutual interest.

When you say “JR’s hell” and “like I should spit on that once” you are unravelling a whole secluded Tamil mentality never at home with the Sinhalese, always looking peevish and discontented ever having to pick a bone in order to achieve your own tribal and peculiar and secular objectives. On the other hand Sinhalese racists too have denied you the due rights that must have been recognized inalienable to you more so because of the tribal mentality that you carry on your shoulders as quoted and last written by you as above.

It is a fact that today moderate people like me acknowledge that Tamils have a grievance and that they must be assimilated to a common Sri Lankan identity with their own cultures, customs and religions. In this optimum world Sinhalese too would have their own pet religions, rituals, cultures and all that. So too are Muslims and others. It is my perception that the more multifaceted the State culture is the more vibrant, vivid and beautiful it is. Take for example the vast diversity of Indian cultures and therefore its richness. Do you know why, as they say, the Buddhas continue to be born only in India from thousands upon thousands of years? Just think of its immense multifaceted cultural heritage and the associated spiritual real estate so as to create a Buddha.

You people have fought for your rights from a wrong footing and incited and fuelled Sinhala racism and antagonism which culminated in Mullaiwaikkhal. And you still haven’t learned a thing from it as “JR’s hell” and “like I should spit on that once” betrays. This is exactly what the Rajapakshas are exploiting unleashing the “we Sinhala Buddhists/Sinhala sovereignty/our own Sinhala affairs etc.” Rest assured the Tamils and Sinhalese will pass this legacy to their posterity, unchanged and unrepentant. When you continue like this the moderates too would say go to hell bloody Tamil [Edited out] who had grumblings only and nothing in common with the ordinary people’s aspirations. Even if you win ELAM you would not end your miseries but rather will ignite endless conflicts and wars. “JR’s hell” was not the sole creation of JR but it is a historical process culminating in various venues and well patronized by your own political leaderships at various times historically.

So discard your pathetic self-pity obsession and break the barriers of your own narrow mind and outlook and enter into the mainstream psyche of Sri Lankan identity. Not in the perfect way but look how these UNP frogs have crept under MARA’s [Edited out] and solved all their problems and living ever so happily with every imaginable luxury and happiness. Your own savior KP has done this too! I am not saying you people should descend to that low levels to live decently, but your thinking must transform radically into something which is above the common Sinhala fools’ racist mentality and must address the dispassionate and objective reasonable minds among them. With your right kind of persuasion and appeal I am sure your aspirations would be granted and recognized when the conditions are right with right kind of political atmosphere and leadership.

This problem you have has to be solved with Sinhalese people only and not through any other means because you all are going to live with them. You must intermingle your identity with that of the Sinhalese, your political aspirations must walk hand in hand with those of the Sinhala South, you must show your solidarity with them and walk the distance with them in their common struggles. You must do politics with them and not as a separate ethnic minority. You must be proactive, initiative and inclusive with the majority. Much water have flown since Waddukkodai etc. and the ordinary Sinhalese and Tamils have real problems of real world of real present. Just think and just show your solidarity with their struggles like Weliveriya, the campus problems, the health sector problems etc. etc. I think we all would be amazed to see how the common man’s mind would begin to transform and his heart would open to embrace you.

You know the depths you engulfed yourself in self-pity prevented you from seeing how an enterprising brave single Sinhalese ventured to find a lasting solution to the ethnic problem-Ranil Wickramasinghe-who is a creation of JR’s political nursery but whom you consider the hell keeper (JR). It is your hero Pirabaharan animal who wasted that opportunity and gave victory to MARA only to be slaughtered in the Mullaiwaikkhal mud, coin cloth clad! What an irony of fate! You all chose the self-destruction through self-hypnosis and perished. Had you backed RW by now he would have facilitated a wonderful world for all of us. My final advice to you is: glean the gems on your way and not the pebbles and rabble.

I have written already about all what you are saying. I do not think that is going to workout. Tamils had decided to go separate 1976. That decision was made with the experiences of everything happened before that. SJV got only 70% of the votes in 1975. 2013 TNA got 80% across board, this include for many unknown candidates. SJV had not proposed Vaddukkodai in 1975. But in 2013 time TNA asked for “internal self determination”. (They did not say “Self determination” because of JR’s 6th amendment). Let see the other side too. Thayasiri Jeyasekara come form UPFA to UNP and went back to UPFA during the election time. He got a record braking majority. If a person who three time changed his party in one term and won that kind of Majority, what does that mean? This is after Welaweria, which is in your mind’s one of the biggest problems of Sinhalese. You may think so, apparently, Thayasiri’s performance indicates you and Sinhalese voters are far apart in thinking.

Let say Praphakaran helped to defeat Ranil. What happened when Sampanthar supported Fonseka? I know there were many papers wrote that Fonseka had a chance to win but, he destroyed it by associating him with TNA. There is no way this time Ranil will openly proclaim that “Tamils also have problem, so I will be working to solve that too.” If you have gone through the writings in CT, you will know that basically all of them want a common candidate the sole purpose of it is to remove EP. Did Tamils had any different environment when there was no EP. Did they feel anything different under SWRD or Srima. So, why Tamils has to worry about EP. Who is going to take care Tamils if they spend their time to help Sinhalese find solution to Weleveria and when another 1958 comes under another SWRD? Now Western countries agree if there was problem with rebel, Mullivaikkal of 2009 was not the solution. If Tamils fails to use it, they too going regret the way those who are regretting to Welaweria. Not one year, not five years, not 10 years, its 65 years the two races had traveled on different paths. I do not think they will meet again.

There were two bulls on one yoke. One fell down on the pit on road by it carelessness and died. Now the yoke is choking the other bull too. EP is problem Sinhalese sought for them. There is no point in bearing that choke on Tamils side. They should find a way to release from this “Sri Lanka government” and go on their path. They should not take this yoke any more. Because on the other side is a dead bull. That will never ever going to get up and walk.

I understand what is multiculturalism. I live in city there are more than 150 communities are living peacefully. I lived in Colombo from 1975. I worked with many intermarried people. Those days one of my friend’s wife come with us to Kathiresan Temple. But, its the swing vote count. So Tamil can not expect a political solution. Actual democratic mechanism is controlled by majority. It is controlled by a minority called swing voters. So in Lanka, Tamil can not expect justice under a EP dictator or democratically elected prime minister. There is no point for them to attach to Sinhalese any more. “Hit or get out”. “Free yourself or perish” is their situation.

Then what the fuck are you doing in these forums which are meant for intellectual exchanges in order to contribute some positives to solve the real problems in the country?

Going through all the nonsensical gibberish you uneducated Tiger brat has written in this forum it is now very clear you are one of the hit and run Tiger Terrorists who has been shot on the testicles by SL forces while fleeing the crime scene after throwing sardine bombs at innocent unarmed civilians. Do you [Edited out] think you represent the whole Tamil community in the country? What a sod and what a joke! Elsewhere in this forum you [Edited out] poked you [Edited out] in to the discussion about abolition of EP, and here you say Sinhalese EP and politics, Weliweriya etc. are not your business and Tamils want their own solution and separate state! We better check our Angoda Mental Hospital to find out whether a lunatic has escaped recently and still on the run. You fucking ball-less terrorist, bear this in your hollow mind, your fucking freedom revolution ended in Nandikadhal and your killer psychopath Pirabaharan [Edited out] found the door to his dream state after the Sinhalese covered his [Edited out] with a loin cloth. The [Edited out] was dragged along the mud like a dead dog and gave a good photograph opportunity. Find out a copy of it and hang it on your giraffe neck like that animal Pirabaharan wore a capsule filled with urine and get lost into the wood never to return to this forum.

“Then what the fuck are you doing in these forums which are meant for intellectual exchanges in order to contribute some positives to solve the real problems in the country?”

I read a joke, today, in a Tamil website. “A bat and a crow was on a tree. Bat asked the why is it the crow was standing upside down”. This is how, now the NPC and all other are are labelled by Kings. The bat is claiming that the crow is standing upside down. The crow replied that “it was the bat standing upside down. It is something whole world has accepted”. You clime this site is “These forums which are meant for intellectual exchanges in order to contribute some positives”. In your definition your “Bat” style filth seems to be positive argument for you. The site’s administrators is not ready to accept that this is site is your type of intellectual argument and they keep editing you intelligent argumensts. All the crows are watching your highly educated arguments. When you could not deny the truths that I wrote, you are trying to hide under your positive exchange, which appears to be extremely difficult for you to come out with.

Kings positive attitude was not bought by Modi. Tamils are no more ready to buy these positive arguments and sign more of the Banda-Chelva, Dudley- Chelva pacts and sit and wait until they go repudiated.

Neither you nor Kings assistants see positiveness in Tamils’s talk. (A 80% has voted for self determination.) They could not recognize intellectual context in their talk. But international community agree with Tamils and Tamils have gained the international attention and have invited UNHRC. At the same time the intelligent JR invited IPKF into the Island.

I did not claims that I am the Tamils’ representative. Tamils have selected their representatives with 80% support. All I am doings is the correct interpretation of their mandate. I am sure of the accuracy of my interpretation. A fool does know what the man next to him thinking. Ordinary man knows to guess couple of peoples’ expectation. But, peoples like me know how the entire Tamils are feeling. It is not representing them. It is just a kind of intelligence.

American super bombs(atomic bombs) was able to kill only 75,000 in Hiroshima. King bombing killed 147,000 in Mullivaikal died. Sri Lanka’s largest Angoda hospital is the North and East. They think they can to keep Tamils without escaping from their “mental facility, rehabilitation facility”. Tamils are not simply escaping, they have brought out to the attention international community about Lanka’s Angoda.

“Now get lost into the drain where you live.”

The “Drain” that is live is billion times better than JR’s hell. A model for the entire world. It is the oldest, secular, democratic, republic. The EP has made a world record. The peoples who selected him has set an example for the entire world. He is one of the few humans proved that EP the not necessarily bad itself.

“They censored not my arguments” I did know that. But even after the administrators cut all the crab out of it and cleaned it, rather than I tell it you, I wanted you wanted you to read it and accept still how ugly that writing is. Thanks for accepting that the administrators did not cut you arguments, but why is it still looks so pointless even after their cleaning is, it is the natural standard of you arguments.

I read above with much more concentration. You have made it very clear to him and others that are interested in the stuff. But I really dont think it s worth wasting time for him because from what I read above, he hates the JR’s hell that much. If majority of them would have been doing the same, the need of finding solution to the problem would be disspearing with the time. Btw I have never met a lanken tamil akin to “Mallaiyuran “

      Prof David,
I guess SL has gone too far with EP, sudden break or sudden reversal of EP could end up the country in chaos. So finding the correct SI-CC and winning next election would not help SL. Because Ghota and extended R family, loyal& powerful military, and violent-patriot Sinhalese & monks would not accept defeat (defeat would be redefine by Ghota to his like). Defeat will end up with dictatorship and country would go back by another 30 years.. If you let Rajapakse family to run another 6 years, it would destroy itself.

If Sobitha is so determined and candid about his single objective (abolishing Executive President), why should he accept offers (to be sent abroad) from the sitting EP who he is about to challenge. We simple Simons get all our treatments in Sri Lanka. There are enough and one private hospitals here. Besides, no one in Sobitha’s family that I know of have ever gone abroad for medical treatments. I know every single man and woman in Sobitha’s mother’s family. I think the man has come to realize that there will not be a so-called single candidate.

Hay professori, do you get that to your not so bright head, eh?

You are sensible man. It appears that your love for JR has partially blinded you as selectively quote his achievements.

Could you also include the following when you decide to comment on JR’s life.

        1. The pilgrimage in October 1957 from Kelaniya to Kandy for the
sole purpose of abrogating Banda Chelva pact and eventual
        capitulation of Banda.

        2. Two organised race riots on his watch. No one was found guilty
and sentenced to prison, including his close political
associates. During July 1983 JR gave this interview to
        Telegraph published in London:

“I am not worried about the opinion of the Jaffna people… now
we cannot think of them, not about their lives or their
opinion… the more you put pressure in the north, the happier
the Sinhala people will be here… Really if I starve the
Tamils out, the Sinhala people will be happy.” – President

        J.R.Jayawardene, Daily Telegraph, July 1983

        3. Two ministers, UNP thugs from Colombo and a number of police
and army officers were involved in Jaffna Public Library
destruction. Not a soul was charged or found guilty or served
sentence. You would agree this has remained a large blot
on the history of this island.

        4. He brought in the PTA.

        5. Curtailed trade union rigts.

        6. ……..

        7 ………

These are some of JR’s colourful events in history.

          NV,

“You are sensible man. It appears that your love for JR has partially blinded you as selectively quote his achievements. (… and from 1 to 7+)”

It is good our seniors reveal the existence of dark matter so we can keep safe distance from the black hole. You and I can be the perfect rulers and critiques, armchair, in the world without missing a pin head in the UN charter, human rights, any commandment in the most sacred religion in the world including those of the Dasaraja Dharma from Buddha’s teachings. Unfortunately theory does not percolate to empirical because politics involve the carnal and banal beings being at the center of ignorance and body politics.

The answer to your whole comment is encoded into above. Let me decode some.

A living example sheds light. Take the case of RW and his CFA, good governance practices, not stuffing state sector with unnecessary recruitments but relying on long term real development strategies and real job creation, rejection of nepotism, strict adherence to impartiality and policies, not sniffing the posteriors of Mahanayakas, not believing in politicization of state and everything in the country, not squeezing the national, religious and racial ….. pressure points of the masses in the country-and of course the list can be pretty long….. And how have the stupid brats in the country translated all that? They say “the bugger did not give a single job in state sector, the UNPers were not granted favoritism, monks may claim they were not iconically carried on his shoulders and fed and respected as a special kind of species, he does not touch our kill-the-Tamil and Sinhalese-the-greatest clitoris which gives them immense mob mobilizing strength and sensationalism… and that list too can be endlessly long!

You see, I have had to write endlessly to support RW wasting precious time which could have been used for some useful thing, yet look at the comments and what they say-according to them RW is the biggest failure and the greatest obstacle in the path of UNP’s success! For their success they need a bigger racist than MR, a bigger crook than MR, a bigger thug than MR-a jackal that beats the two-legged as well as the four-legged!

But when in the civilized circles in the civilized world and in the leader electing body of UNP’s upper echelons everyone agrees RW is the heir to their heritage, democratic culture, honesty etc. but among the voters in Rajapaksha and Mahanama Sri Lanka he is a useless encroacher of UNP leadership and they continually defeat them, politically. This answers why RW fails and JR won. They even go to the extent of exemplifying JR lecturing to RW and the country how a winning leader must act and think! The Sirasa and voice cut politicians are very adept at this including certain sections of the monkhood.

So, why JR did those things was a matter of riding on the wave of majoritarian mob and racial culture to achieve political success. After all, all these mundane politicians are after the fulfilment of their own personal ambition of their lives. They are not bothered about changing the vast human ignorance, racism, greed, ambition, hate mongering, destruction of environment or bridging the gaps and bringing about peace, unity and co-existence with one another and the environment. You and I can harangue about these things but these are very difficult things to achieve because simply there is no such a culture among people in the world-if I walk across and say to that mob “look, Tamils are like us, they have equal rights or MARA should be tried in IC for war crimes and HR violations” the mob would try to fuck my ins out.

Riding on the wave of Banda Chelva pact by JR, Banda himself riding on the Sinhala Only card, Sirima’s era moda choon gon parts like “Seeni nathiwa tha bonnam, miris nathiwa hodi kannam, labba nathiwa bada gannam, Mathiniya kiyanawanam piduru unath api kannam” are all political machinations to gain and retain political power as demanded by populist culture in the country. This is the same tactic MR is using today-licking the clitoris the masses carry on their foreheads and letting them release their racial cum; and in return they remain very faithful in their political marriage with MR. Today MR, yesterday JR-same tactic. This is called swimming with the current. I can very easily raise my sarong, pick up a club, walk across the road and join that mob and Je Dàvu!

But what is required is swimming against the current and change this culture of ignorance and that is why I support RW. His signing CFA and starting peace negotiations signifying and initiating a new culture has a huge significance in the orphaned political culture of Sri Lanka. It is simply out of the world and century for the people of this country and it did not exist nor written in their tribal consciousness or Sinhala Buddhist supremacist genes. May be in another 10 or 50 years in hindsight they would say he was right.

The brining in of the PTA is the necessary outcome and byproduct of playing the racist card. Anyhow any government in the world would do it faced with the same issue. When the JVPers are throwing bombs in the parliament or LTTE is at work out there you won’t simply put your arms in your pockets and crew and squeeze the balls to scare away the terrorist.

Curtailing trade unions/activities: NV, I wonder why a person like you resorted to this PTA and TU stuff knowing fully well of their implications. It is chiefly these bankrupt JVPers and backward SLFPers in collusion with these Leftist bulls who were behind these. Run out of devices, desperate to topple government and grab power and wanting a quick ascend to and a life in their utopias, purely for disruptive purposes and not for any real demands for people these trade unions unleashed a cacophony of strikes. We saw how amuda clad peasants danced their butts to the tune of manipulative political creatures behind them, under cover, in good guise. And those days they were relatively going well but showed their assholes. Nowadays they are being washed down the gully, kidney-less, penniless, rights-less and homeless-but I haven’t seen an amudaya at Fort Railway station since they chose their government of choice under MR. Why? Are they amuda-less or butt-less? May be cunt-less too!

These are some of colorful events we don’t see in our time! This trade union rights must exist as an option for the workers but it should be exercised intelligently and prudently. When they try to compensate for their political bankruptcy using trade union actions without knowing how to introduce their political policies and topple governments repression happens and bad precedence sets in.

I wish JR acted differently in some of these issues but again counter arguments can arise-cause and effect. When India decided to bully Sri Lanka using LTTE and Tamil card JR had to respond. Just imagine what would happen if that Tamil racist and separatist virus created in Indian soil and infected to every Tamil throughout the country took firm hold and grip this country would have been in real turmoil may be like Syria. So it is logical in the minds of mundane politics to counter the Tamil racism with Sinhala racism because Tamil racism and separatism was being controlled from foreign soil intent on decimating the country. Although I do not approve this kind of things this is the phenomenon called causation-cause and effect and the effect becoming the cause. How can this vicious circle be broken? We had a golden opportunity in 2009 but this bloody rogue MARA destroyed it all. According to the trend of happening here it is likely that UN may intervene someday for partition. Are we creating our own destination, hell bent?

Dangerous thoughts, the majority community will votes him back for 3 more terms.

Sri Lankan politics is all about greed and power, look at RW even it is crystal clear clear he has no chance of wining the Presidential election he is not willing to step aside and work with a common candidate.

I propose the former Bishop Duleep De Chickera as the common candidate! Why Not? He too posseses the same quintessential quality that is common to the others. That is, the inability to defeat the incumbent.

Amazing thinking! If Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Banda…Oxford-educated… converted from Anglicanism to Buddhism, AND became Prime Minister…..yes,yes,yes, WHY NOT Duleep Kamil De Chickera too follow the same path….and who knows, we might have, once again, an Oxford-educated honcho determining the fortunes of this country. But what worries me is the ending of the story. No let us NOT tempt history to repeat itself.

Former CJ is the best common candidate. All the opposition parties including the TNA should support her candidature. Once she wins, she should do away with the Executive Presidency, repeal the 18th amendment and step down or become the Prime Minister under a true parliamentary syatem.

      Leon,

Shiranee B bartered the present, future and lives of 10,000 Ceylinco GKCCC deposit holders, when the case came before her. She could have
provided justice to these once rich Lankans. But she placed her own parochial interest to own 2 ultra-modern apartments at discounted prices and quietly palmed away the Case to the Commercial Court.
Her trick is now out in public. This is why many people have no faith in this fraud and want her to suffer the full weight of the law.

As they say in conventional wisdom, you need a crook to catch another crook. There are no decent contenders to oust the Rajapakse rogues.
Why not consider the earlier CJ Sarath Silva. He has the backbone, the nerve and the ambition, He may turn this country around – provided you ignore his shortcomings. God! He’s got many. But, equally, the romantic’s got class, he is articulate and like he did that SoBD, he will teach a few some badly needed lessons to the applause of many in the country.

“I propose NATIV VEDDAH as the common candidate!”

No thanks I have a tendency to vote against me and campaign against my candidacy.

Secondly now I have the freedom to live the way I want to. I don’t want to be a life president, a burden that takes away your freedom and make you a prisoner of your own making. I prefer someone else to govern and govern with compassion to all citizen.

Thirdly I cannot be seen as a hypocrite, indefinitely delaying departure of all Kallthonies who voted for me.

Fourthly my Elders would not support my candidacy and they believe that only crooks and thugs can succeed in politics.

Knowing them very well they would definitely tell me off “Veddah boy go and find a proper job, collect more honey if the money is short”.

My estimate of you increaseth. You are a well learned, liberal gentleman tempered in a plural and accommodating atmosphere. Why would you want to sink into the venal, crime-ridden, snake-pit of Lankan politics – the home of drug-traffickers, Tender Benders, Komis Kakkas, murderers, extortionists, pimps, pseudo Buddhists and monks, patta horu and, in brief, the scum of the earth. When Dr. Samuel Johnson composed the sentence “politics/patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel” he verily could not have thought of the appalling and disgusting standards we have now here and for some years now.

Dambara Amila may have been recently talking about like good governance, but his fundamental framework of thought is Sinhala supremacist. I am not sure he understands what good governance is. However despicable the Rajapaksas are I would rather see them ruin the country further than see Dambara Amila do the same.

I do not know Dambara Amila’s political background but he seems essentially to be of the JVP frame of mind. The main attribute of the JVP is a deep lying class hatred and a related inferiority complex that can be clearly seen in Wimal Weeravansa. Weerawansa’s “break away” from the JVP does not rid him of his innate JVP DNA.

If a common candidate is agreed upon and there is a reasonable degree of cooperation between all parties of the opposition including the Tamil and Muslim parties, there is not the slightest doubt that Rajapaksa can be defeated. So the challenge before responsible and right thinking people is to somehow try an ensure that.

One of the greatest obstacles to that would be the JVP’s visceral hatred of the UNP which is a class hatred, and its refusal to cooperate with the UNP. Non-cooperation with the UNP would be fatal to any prospect of a Rajapkasa defeat, because, despite its recent defeats, the UNP is a national party. The JVP also has a substantial vote base, so some mechanism should be found for these two parties to co-operate.

The idea that has been in circulation that the aim of the common opposition should be the abolition of the Executive Presidency should remain fundamental. That means, Dambara Amila cannot have dreams of a programme of work lined up to accomplish, because his only role would be to abolish the EP and then step down. In the unlikely event that he becomes the candidate, and wins, it is crystal clear that he will entrench himself and become another Rajapaksa.

No no no, you have all got it wrong.

I put forward the name of Gnansara thero for presidency.

To start with he will slay all the Muslims – his greatest hate. He and his followers will appropriate all their wealth and property. And rape their women as well.

Then he will slay all the Christian infidels, demolish the churches and confiscate all their property. And rape their women as well.

Once such impediments are removed his attentions will turn on the Tamils and their property (or whatever gold the Tamils succeeded in hiding from the army). And rape the Tamil women who the army spared as well.

Once the Tamils are slayed he will roam around looking for a new enemy. My bet – the next target will be the Udarata Sinhalayas. There is historical enmity between the Gnanasara supporters who are Pahatha Rata with the Udarata folk. After this battle Gnanasara will emerge battered and wounded but will be victorious nevertheless. And rape all the fair skinned udarata damsels in their osariyas as well.

Thus he will keep destroying all, rape the women and keep amassing wealth.

After all, all what we voters have been doing is Sri Lanka is vote in one leader after another who do naught but facilitate mass killing of minorities, amassing weath and destroy the county as well. So let us vote in Gnanasara, I assure you he will do the job once and for all.

      BBS Rep,

Your nominee the manimal Gandassara Thero may do what he wants with the Muslims (my thoughts are with the large number of good men and women amongst them) but when it comes to the Christians that’ll be the limit. Even he will be scared to touch the Tamils with Jayalalitha/TN
and India watching closely. See the holy unthinking mess Rajapakse and his Sinhala army did in 2009 in their racial prejudice (I am not talking of the killing VP and the welcome defeat of the LTTE) Now the Rajapakses do not know who their friends are, who their enemies are and where to hide.

Gandassara and his Sinhala hordes will be Modi-fied, if they make the wrong move. Modi is a man with a short fuse and he has enough reasons to dislike the lying Rajapakse already. I am a Sri Lankan, Tamil, and will back my President against any Indian leader. But this Rajapakse is the giddy limit and the country must be saved for all the communities from the clutches of the rapacious First Family.

That’s it! We are holding out for a hero, and what do we get? A ‘common candidate’. Meanwhile, in the deep warm south the boys are waving their kurakkan satakayas and laughing, from both sides. The JVP were losers in ’71 and then in ’89 and now they are trawling the diaspora trying to recruit the housemaids, watchers, hospital cleaners, taxi drivers et al to build up an international face. Curioser and curioser…….

I believe the best common candidate is CBK.

If she does not want to contest the second best is Fonseka.

    The third best is ranil.

Those who have not contested a presidential election before should just take a rest especially the monks who have never contested anything at all and have no political experience.

You have to climb the ladder step by step, otherwise fall with it.

Of Shankar’s names I favour Fonseka – not because he is good. The mutt is half-educated, bull ambitious and thinks the world revolves around him. He truly believes Dr. Manmohan Singh’s guli he’s the best General in the world. The good thing the country will welcome all round is he will non-stop hound out the Rajapaksas and all the crooks round him and squeeze all the stolen loot from them – within and outside the country. Of course, he showed all of us he is a bigger rogue than anyone else when he had half a chance. He has no respect for rules and procedure of Govt purchases. We have little alternative but to hope the egoistic ex-Army man will learn on the job if he gets into the saddle.

    dear Kumar,
As most of the monks have families except Ven. Sobitha it would be a good idea for all the monks with such political aspirations to contest. For a brief period during the elections Rajapaksa could don the yellow robes which have no significance and which should not present a problem to such hypocrites. Bensen
