Dayasiri Jayasekara Is Likely To Be SLFP Prime Ministerial Candidate

Dayasiri Jayasekara is believed to be President Srisena’s strong personal preference as successor, Colombo Telegraph reliably learns.

President Maithripala Srisena has opened the way for a wide contest to replace him as SLFP leader and he named three possible successors among the “great people” who could assume the crown.

Dayasiri J“There definitely comes a time where a fresh pair of eyes and fresh leadership would be good. The party has got some great people coming up – the Dayasiri Jayasekaras and the Arjuna Ranatungas and the Duminda Dissanayakas. There is plenty of talent there. I am surrounded by very good people.” the President told his closest advisors after yesterday’s meeting with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

According one of his advisors Sirisena said a “fresh pair of eyes” would be needed by 2018 to lead the party after his retirement.

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday shot down the dreams of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he said that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) would not nominate a Prime Ministerial candidate before the next election.

Turning down the request made by pro-MR faction to name the Prime Ministerial candidate of the party, Sirisena said such a measure would be disadvantageous to the party at the election. The President’s swift response indicated that he had no intention to accommodate the former President at the next election as the PM candidate of the party.

Sirisena believes family politics must be ended, our source said.

“President Maithripala Srisena believes that the Chief Minister of the North Central Province Dayasiri Jayasekara is one of the party’s greatest ‘strikers’ who will play a prominent role in the next general election campaign. But he believes that Jayasekera still has much to prove as a serious heavyweight politician.” the source further said.

Chief Minister Jaysekara, on being asked if he had launched any campaign to be the Prime Ministerial candidate, he said, “no.”

Speaking to Colombo Telegraph he said that if he is given a chance to lead the next parliamentary election campaign he would do great. “I’m willing to take any challenge to make the party win. I have displayed my capabilities in the past” he said when contacted today.

“To win we need to regain the minority votes. I have high level of support among ethnic minority voters” he further said.

Dayasiri is the best, he is a village boy like Maithri, he studied village schools and went to Colombo law faculty. He has no political family background like Arjuna or Duminda. And he can gain MARA support too, if MARA really wants to make the party win. This is litmus test for MARA

Dayasiri is a unfit to be a Minister – never mind Prime Minister!

He bit Hiran’s ear while on TV – shows a lack of self-control that makes him unfit to hold public office.

Also, this Dayasisi is and OPPORTUNIST with a massive EGO problems! People like this will be further corrupted by power and will seek to centralize and concentrate power in their own hands.. As dangerous as Ranil Wickramasinghe who is also desperate for power!

Most of Sri lanka’s politicians are UNTRUSTABLE and we need a new generation of non corrupt and trustworthy politicians who will work for country rather than self!

what qualifications this depitakattuwa has got to be the PM of this highly literte nation ?

He spoke in favour of UNP today but tomorrow moved out of from the party to sing housana for MR. Anyone clearly knowing the levels of abusive nature of MR, to join the other day with him should be based only on his selfish gains. This particular unfaithful man owns the charactor of that. So it is high time, rulers to check with the responsible austhorities the sums alleged to be abused by MR in Dayasiri’s cross over to SLFP a year ago or so. People of the country have every right to clarrify the issue. Else, it is a joke.. and us being compelled to work with jokers further. Please MY3 dont let idiots to lead this country. Dont make the country laughing stock again. Gone shoudl be the days that idiots abused it to the core. Now under your lead, please never ever take decisions to end up with higher dissapointment than in the recent past. We kept the faith in you. All what we want is see it beyond towards turning the all realities towards the civilized culture- that MR and thugs deliberately destroyed for their financial gains.

        This is Sri Lanka Supun.

I agree it is a literate country however time and again we have proved ourselves to be a country of literate modayas.

This totally unreliable, traitorous Dayasiri, a supreme political pole voulter will win many votes of the literate modayas, come next election.

I question the credibility of Sirisena in naming Dayasiri of all people to be next leader of our country. It is beyond belief. I rest my case, so help me god.

If DJ would become the candidate, nothing would work to convict Mafia family ‘shigh profile abuses – because the DJ was paid with huge sums at his cross over to SLFP year ago. He will have to keep that in secret in the same time defending MR for his own secure.
I believe this is the most stupidest move if MY3 would decide so – poeple would loose their faith kept on him.
Reginold coory or other decent politicians could do the job better. Please rethink folks – just harbor to emotions cant do the job well.
I am in th eview that senior men in the SLFP should be given a chance. They have made their dedications thorugh out the years. Else, I am no against RW would be the winner if things would move to this way. RW is the most experienced politician that we have in the country today.

Maithri is playing it verrry smart, keeping his cards close to his chest and keeping ambitious individuals ever hopeful, so that guys like Dayasiri will drift further from the ‘old guard’ they have been siding with of late.

One thing is for sure, MR’s chances of a comeback are getting remoter by the day.

    Way to go, Maithri!

YES !! MS is playing smart and he is a shrewd Politician. After all he has 37 years experience.. Now he has baited DJ who has accounts to settle with RW and given him hopes of being Prime Minister… DJ might already be having wet dreams..

His 9MS)statement about gravy being served in grocery bags that are knotted was hilarious, which he finally nailed by saying RW and he un-knotted without spilling on themselves while others had the gravy spilled on themselves… This singing lowyer and a thug is not a good choice to lead the country…

SO MR’s hopes are dashed and now BBS has invited GOAT to join them.. what a turn of events…

DJ who jumped on Harin on a public Tv show openly
demonstrated that he’s not fit for any responsible
job,let alone party leadership position! If the guy
already has grabbed the bite, that’s enough proof
for his leadership demo ! But one thing clear,if
the present political climate is not carried
forward , no leaderships from any party will be
grooming for the benefit of the country.

    Dear Medamulana Mahinda Rajapaksa,

    1. “President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday shot down the dreams of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he said that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) would not nominate a Prime Ministerial candidate before the next election.”

    Good!

    Very Good!

    3. “Sirisena believes family politics must be ended, our source said.”

    Excellent!.

Mahinda Rajapaksa, can you please retire? If not can you fish?

Politics is not good for you. All your Shills and white-washers have abandoned you including Wimal Modawansa, who voted for 19A.

Alternately, you can start your own party, Medamulana-Crooks, Robbers And Party, M-CRAP.

      Amarasiri!

Thanks to the old guard beggars like you can shout now…I am sure if the LTTE were around and bombing Colombo and the suburbs with there home made planes you beggars would have being hiding under the beds and screaming for your dear life.

Buddy wake up to reality without barking!!! The way you write it seems that you will bend over for MY3 or any one in this new government…take it easy and enjoy your life.

        Namal,

You do seem upset with what Amarasiri commented. Why?

Being bombed to death is better than dying a slow painful death from poverty, starvation and lack of education. I cannot fathom how you could enjoy your life living with bandits and hooligans robbing the wealth of the people. Unless ofcourse, you are one among them.

Be grateful that Pres.Maithri, PM Ranil and Mm. Chandrika along with some great good intentioned people made a change risking their lives for all Sri Lankans to see light again. They are buying back the island that was sold to chinese and other foreign forces.

Oh by the way, your old song about war, terror, Tamil, LTTE, bombing… It does not work anymore. Try singing a new one.

So for only reason that MR s term eliminated LTTE terror within the country, you should go on lickcing them ? Man wake up and let the folks free from being abusive any more. Enough is enough:

Just listen to your belly feelings, since MY3 has been in power, No more terror attacked bbeing carried out by BBS guys towards muslim community why ? WAS THAT NOT BECUASE THE BUGGER S REGIME HAD THE REMOTE CONTROL OF THE OF ALL BRUTALITIES MADE BY BBS DURING MR terms ?

Why BBS had no actions during the CBK `s terms. Where had been the Eurnach Ghanasara been at the times war was at its heights: Ballige puthas born to Medamulana had only a touch to destroy the justice and lawful way life of the people. Even after things being revealed today, MR to have such guts to come and tell the nation that today s screening process are not second to Hitlers is pathetic or not.

They have no fears to paint all the issues based on high profile abuses because they know that stupid folks would NOT never get it.
They kept them in dark during the last 10 years – media men should be hung by their balls to have worked on Rajapakshe agendas.
Did not we hear the facts related to the press issues at the beginning of the term of MY3. He there expressed, all press men were called on to Temple Temple trees then to learn them how they should ahve work under the MR administraton.
Is any issue the like in place today ? No, this is why I believe, MY3 is the son produced by this land to free from the abusive pit we all are fallend or pulled in by Rajapakshe murdreres.
Among the high criminals, there is a group that would even go on pretending whereever they can that they would never abuse. But all these men would stay deaf and blind once the accusations levelled on them are proved. The day all these are proved are not far from. Wait and see. I see the light at the end of the tunnel becoming even more clear today than two weeks ago.

Namal, why do people elect a leader at an election? To seek good governance of the nation. Yes, the LTTE has been cleared by the decisiveness and determination of MR/GR etc. However, that does NOT give them the power of life and death, plundering the national wealth, family cronyism and marginalizing Sri Lanka from the rest of the world.

Data sir is a jumper secretly from the UNP and he would try all his tricks to secure himself as much as he changes religion. It was also mentioned somewhere that he was secretly helping the organising the meeting at K’gala today to show support to MR’s side. What a double game , let us wait and watch the ring.

We are not worrying about promoting any one for the SLFP leadership. As far as people accept them. Our worry was what the Govt is going to do with the Rajapaksha family and his cronies’ corruptions, killing of people, interfering the judicial system and list goes on.
Not only probe we want. We want punishment against corruption. We want redress for the injustice done.

Don’t hang on to this type of petti issues. These are not our concerns.

Excellent move to promote young blood and talent within the SLFP. The young leaders also should learn to work mutually and be more responsible. I do hope Ranil do the same within the UNP. The TNA also should look for new talent. Tolerance on ethnic issues and commitment to social equity should be firm criteria for all. If that is the case, the future of Sri Lanka will be promising.

        Maali,

our people would forget everything within short period of time.

i really dont know why the people behave so.

I hate this GUY Dayasiri who immediately crossing over said- all illful things about UNP or others as if he did not fight against MR. All Chatu like charactor- would do anything to be on good books. Actually, Ranil could leave the country and find his ways somewhere else, but with all patience he fought alone. All high profile mud slinging campaign took the ground against him were beyond all ethics and morals. He should really be a very strong charactor by nature believing himself and his performance- actually who is the one an only among the both sides possessing the best credentials to lead this country ofcourse together with MY3 the most respected person today- who sacrificed his life for the sake of EDUCATED and silence folks of this island nation.

I respect you President MY3. You are so valuable to us. During my last visit paid to lanka last November, how many times I was compelled to vomit while touring colombo – just for one reason buggers placards ( all wasteful funds from whom ? )were displayed as we were forced to glance at him… that was too much for me. Even if I travel around the globe for my work – I have not seen such things in countries belong to the civilized folks. Gone were the days, that thugs of that kind woudl get elected by the voters- NOW TIMES HAVE COME TO A CHOSE THE GOOD EDUATED CIVLIZED leader but not Dayasiri or any rude ones please.

We should never chose Dayasiri, a blatant liar. Changes colours and tongue in seconds.
Anyway I heard crossed over to MR’s section because he was in debt by meddling in shares and if it is so according to the unwritten code of ethics that we who voted for MS, believe in, he should not be a candidate. It is money that prompted the crossover and therefore he is not a good candidate.
Arjuna Ranatunge looks a better person

      Dr Fernando,
I mostly agree with you but cant do so with Dayasiri J#. The manner most abusive nature of the current day moved out of UNP – supporting absolutely wrong boys was a greater mistake. It was a betrayal. And just go through your articles and tell us what maturity Dj has got to lead this nation ? I hate lanken politics if this would become the reality.

      Dr Laksiri Fernando

“Excellent move to promote young blood and talent within the SLFP.”

There is a dire need for a retirement part for Mahinda Rajapaksa.

May be a good retirement Party with Salman Khan, make him “happy; sand retire in peace. Paradise Mahinda, Send him up the “Murunga Tree”, and give him Murunga Soup. That should do the trick. Will Fishing as a hobby do the trick?

Still there is no closure for Mahinda Rajapaksa, and his Suubs are still rolling in an old formula.

Personally I do not like all 3 of them though with this political culture we ned to find the best among the rotten lot.

Daya-Sorry as I call him who jumped between parties and definitely ‘bought’ by Rajapaksas during the Wayamba PC poll is a crowed puller and good speaker.

Daya-Sorry as well as Arjuna comes from another rogue family with each and every brother in different camps is so arrogant and these 2 guys need to fill some very big shoes for sure.

Then again these 2 or 3 young turks are million times better than a Rajapaksa or Aluthgamage or Johnie.

also why not the 2 leading parties stick on to their policy of not giving nominations for guys like Mervin/Ethanol/kudu/Gambling and those who have corruption charges?

Another good idea is for the 2 major parties not to nominate anyone over the age of 65 years as that is a time to enjoy the retirement and not for governance.

We need to send Nimal Siripala/Fauzi/Rathnasiri/Chamal/Mara/Moulana/Joseph Micheal/John Amaratunga/ P Dayaratna type of guys home or a home for the aged and not in active politics.

    • 2

“…Amaratunga/ P Dayaratna type of guys home or a home for the aged and not in active politics.”
to add to this we need to send all drug dealers namely Mervin, Lansa (New SLFP Org for Wattala) etc to the Govt Boarding house opposite to Campbell Park. “

We start seeing some good signs in SL. RW showed us some young (early 40s) UNP talents, I was impressed by seeing some of those Deputy Ministers taking in TV debates (most of journalists talked like emotional fools) . MS is doing the same, pushing forward the young talent… It is interesting to see what Arjuna Ranathunga can do to betterment of the country.. Dayasiri and Navin should be better than those old crooks, but they have direct links to blood and stolen money. Arjuna’s family has foolish thugs but I don’t think Arjuna uses family stolen money or cooperated in family crimes… Just my thoughts

Alahakoon – What happened to the millions Arjuna R collected from the public to build a Cancer hospital during his early post-Cricket days.
Was Arjuna the Chief Broker in the racket in the imports of those super-luxury vehicles in the name of the Cricketers – at the behest of the car import mafia. I was surprised when he was made a senior Minister on January 09. He neither has the education or leadership skills. The truth is we have very little to chose from in looking for a honest political leader to take us forward. They are almost all rogues looking forward to cleaning up the country’s assets.

If bachelor Mangala can prune his habit of living ostentatiously at public expense he may be a good choice – if the G factor does not go against him.

For those losers in the UNP who think that UNP cannot survive without Ranil, President Sirisena’s comments are a classic example to follow. He has identified young, honest and CHARISMATIC individuals who could lead the party to the future.

That is the way the modern word move forward in politics. Sticking to age old politicians who cannot win elections will not take them any where. Tony Blair, Kevin Rudd, David Cameron are examples.

UNP has enough talent, Sajith, Gayntha, Harin, Sujeewa, Buddhika etc etc. However unfortunately the million Dollar question is whether the old guard will allow such a revolution in the UNP. HR must be turning in his grave with the present scenario.

RW is a dictator just like MR..yes he may have been a clean politician earlier..but he should hand the reigns to someone with vision and young blood..Dr Harsha De Silva is a good choice so is Ajith Perera.. Though a lawyer and a Minister I dont think Wijedasa RAJAPAKSA is also fit to hold the reins…
SL need young politicians with vision to carry the country forward. Not old politicians who make decisions that are detrimental to the young, who may have to pay hefty prices for bad decisions of the old who maybe gone sooner than later. WE the PEOPLE must not vote anyone above 60 into political offices.. Generation gap also comes into play..like Old teachers having a hard time teaching younger kids…

For those who ridicule Dayasiri J, let me remind that he is one of the very few exemplary politicians who RESIGNED from the UNP (due to misunderstanding with the leadership) and RE CONTESTED under PA to get elected.

He never used the party’s vote to somersault to the other side which was the norm during past ten years by those elected UNP & PA MPs who changed sides.

    • 3

My point was he did the right thing by resigning.

Even if a financial transaction took place (which is an unsubstantiated claim) he could still have changed sides without resigning from the Parliament like most other UNP & PA MPs.

Gamarala, you’ve made a good point. However, I remember the time when Dayasiri was getting fed up with Ranil W. There was a mutual friend who was giving me a day by day update – for perhaps a month.

I throw the same question at Dayasiri as to my friend: why can’t Sri Lankan politicians avoid the soap opera by just retiring from politics for some time, or keeping a low profile – the way Sajith is doing?

  • 15
    0

Dayasiri is an opportunist, a stage performer and a man without principles. His honesty and integrity are questionable. He joined the previous regime having torn them to shreds on facts whilst in the UNP. How then could he readily change sides for position, money and power? He had no guts to join MS during the campaign. These are dangerous people with no love for the Country or the people they serve.

Do the people want such a disloyal person without character as a PM ?

H E the President must have been misquoted!

Please think well before voting for Dayasiri!

This is a good choice to unite the 2 SLFP factions. Dayasiri was my preffed canidate to take the baton from Ranil. That was until he did the ugly and frog jumped. He did the jump unlike others doing the right thing re-contesting under a new position.

He has done a lot of good work for his province unlike the dud Wingeswaran. He can replicate that at national level.

Additionally, he will preempt Rajapaske re-entering the scene and spoiling the soup.

Is Mangala the PM candidate of the UNP?.

Probably Ranil should do a Sira and say Mangala is the best for the Elite since Sliced Bread

And admit that he is now devalued currency after his mate, Singapore Mahendran shot his” Mr Clean” tag in to pieces with 5 Billion LKRs…

Besides how ironic it will if Sari Pote Mangala square off with Ranil’s ex Boy Jayasekara.

It will be like the recently concluded Fight of the Century in Madison Square.

And the GTF boys and Ranil’s UNP Boys in London may put a few Bob on Mangala with William Hill bookies…

Suggested by our Pressident,Dayasiri Jayasekera is OK but he should show the genaral public so many changes of his present conduct, way of talking, giving due respect to the present President and other senior Politicicians etc,if he is going to be the candidate for next PM.Yes,he will get more votes. Our PM also should come down and suggest the name of Hon Sajith Premadasa from UNP for PM’s post. Then there will be a good competition. We are sure Sujith Premadasa will rise like a Lion and do a yeomen service to this country if he is given a chance to contest for the Premiership.Ranil can be an advisor.

i prefer if chandrika is the prime ministerial candidate of the SLFP.

i also like the concept of a national govt. After the election the SLFP and the UNP can count their members and whoever has the highest can be the prime minister. The other one can be the deputy prime minister. According to the number of members they can decide on the share of ministries and ministers of the largest party can be managed by the prime minister and the ministers of the other party manged by the deputy prime minister.Where the PM and the deputy PM are unable to agree on any issue president can make the decision and his decision is final.

This way we are having maitri, ranil and chandrika administering the country without party politics and the people can make a judgement of the quality of management of the country with all duties and responsibilities properly segregated to the 3 individuals.

I think dayasiri and harin have a lot of potential, but it is too early to throw them into the ring as happened to chandimal in cricket.

The 3 experienced characters are needed now to guide the titanic through the icy waters ahead without hitting the ice berg.

We are at a critical juncture at the moment and every ounce of experience and wisdom is needed to not only keep out mahinda who lost by a slim margin, but also deal with the international ramifications of his foreign policy and the divisions in the country due to his minority policies which external parties can exploit. This is a time when chandrika has to come back and put her weight behind ranil and maithri.

I think the sooner this is done and the elections held the better without waiting for this damn 20th amendment for electoral reforms. The people are not crying out for these reforms, the only reforms they want in this area is to get a better quality of representatives into the parliament, not how they are elected first past the post or not.The 20th amendment could be a quick one where a minimum standard is required if you want to be eligible for candidature such as A’levels and clean police records etc and community service credentials. They must have a good track record of serving the people,no criminal activities and basic educational qualifications of 4 passes in the adv levels.

Of the present lot I strongly believe Patali Champika Ranawaka has better leadership qualities and potential than the rest. But sadly Hela Urumaya tag will diminish his chances of becoming the leader of our country one day. Country needs an honest person like him after President Sirisena.
He proved that he was a better and effective campaigner than many others during the recent presidential elections. I believe that President Sirisena likes him.

I grant that both both Champika’s JHU & the JVP have been impressive for quite some time. I’m not a supporter of either philosophy, but in Champika’s case I have the added suspicion that he’s one of those guys who’s ambition driven.

Still, much better to trust those like the above who have been consistent, and not an inconsistent “wonder boy” like Dayasiri.

Don’t worry. PCR will ditch the Hela Urumaya Tag at the right time. He started with JVP while being a Uni Student. The difference between MY3s three choices and PCR is that the latter is a well read person and knows how to give electric shocks to those around him when opportunity knocks at his door.

The SLFP must be really desperate to even consider a guy like dayasiri who left the SLFP with GL pieris to join the UNP led by Ranil W. After 10 years in the UNP he came back to the SLFP. When the UNP was considering chaps to cross over from SLFP to back Sirisena Dayasiri Jayasekera was one of the prime candidates. He didnt cross over only because Daysiri thought MR would win. Now to make him leader of SLFP ? !!!

What bankruptcy? He is not a young Premadasa, Athulathmudali, Gamini, or Ranil. He will not mature into our PM. SLFP has not enough young talents for future leadership since its run by its feudal masters and mistresses. Dayasiri is a foolish actor while Arjuna and Duminda are thugs.

So Maithripala says he will retire by 2018. Admirable. But when is Ranil Wickremasinghe going to retire? Hope he will make sure Sajith Premadasa doesn’t succeed him. That will bring shame on Sri Lanka.

Sirisena’s choice is going to upset the UNP, especially Ranil. Jayasekera is an unprincipled politician who deserted his party, UNP, for 30 silver pieces from Rajapaksa.

People like Jayasekera are ten a penny in Sri Lankan politics today and if Sirisena truly intends to bring some semblance of honesty and dignity into Sri Lankan politics he should not entertain dishonest, corrupt or tainted politicians in parliament now.

Rajapaksa was a curse to Sri Lankan politics and his choice of ministers and chief ministers are all thieves, kudukarayas or violent thugs and murderers. Sirisena should keep these people at bay and not appoint them to responsible positions.

these traitors should not be given party leadership. He is not a suitable candidate the way he was during the elections. Jumping one side to other sides where the waves go!

Dayasiri Jayasekera[Another DJ] is very much a type like MaRa.Perhaps, this may be the reason why MS chose him as a potential PM,to off-set pressures from MaRa supporters.

Anyway, the fact remains the change the country had on Jan8th was only a quantitative change and not a qualitative change!

Sirisena is all out to break the SLFP for the benefit of the UNP. If DJ is PM candidate ( is there a policy change in the SLFP?) there will be a break up into MR and MS camps and pave the way for a so called National Govt to please Ranil.

The title of this report is misleading, in terms of the thrust of the contents. Other names also mentioned on an equal footing.

    Dr.RN

Ha ha see how MY3 rolls over and plays doggie with MR when the Elections are announced. Sad and pathetic some of you guys have so much hatred built up against MR that it clouds your assessment of reality. Why did CBK get booed in the SLFP Balamandalya meeting. Why is MY3 talking to MR? Why those defected to UPFA during MR time (26) from UNP not joining the UNP government. It is because the majority of the people want Mahinda back.

    Dream on Patriott!

Thanks to people like you, the Sri Lankans are looked upon us uncivilized, brutal tribal people. The 10% of people like you love to live in the dark because it is comfortable for you. Pluck the fruits from the neighboring trees for food, sleep in open air, make more children ( don’t educate them, but teach them your stealing, deceiving traits). Mmmm very much like cave men. For a start, why don’t you follow buddha’s teaching and learn to live an average life?

Oh by the way, did you not know, in Sri Lanka you boo and a few mutts will follow suit. They will not question as to why the booing is done. You know goats do that too. Try that when you travel by bus maybe! And then you give them booze, it gets all ugly. Yuk.

Sure you saw how people were clinging like apes on to the prison’s department bus when Johnston Fernando was taken.
