Debate On Gunarathnam’s Deportation To Be Taken Up In P’ment Tomorrow

A debate on the deportation controversy of Frontline Socialist Party Leader Kumar Gunarathnam, is to be taken up tomorrow midst orders issued by the Immigration and Emmigration controller against him.

FSP Politburo member Pubudu Jagoda said despite the orders, Gunarathnam will not leave the country until the Immgiration and Emigration Department announces a decision on the citizenship application that was submitted by his party leader on February 5.

“Its a political issue – not a legal issue,” Jagoda said pointing out the decision on granting him citizenship or extending the visa lies with the Minister, who is this case is John Amaratunga.

He said if Gunarathnam’s application is rejected, it would be a major issue since the authorities had taken swift steps to grant citizenship for newly appointed Central bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran.

“He had been granted citizenship within a day. So if Kumar’s application is rejected, it would only reflect the double standards followed by this government,” Jagoda added.

Arjuna Mahendran did not break the law of the land. His services were required and he left a lucrative career in the ME to help clean up the mess created by corrupt Cabraal.

Where as this Scumbag was brought down by the MR regime to do their dirty work.

Send him back. Let him apply for his citizenship thereafter.

Who the hell does he think he is, to get his citizenship overnight !!

Well said mate!. I heard a lot about this fella while touring ‘down under’ a few times. I had to pay $ 65.00 on my last visit to SL. Send him back and let him do it in a civilized manner if he wish. I hope he has not spent all that bonus money from the Jarapassas.

RE: Frontline Socialist Party Leader Kumar Gunarathnam,

It is a question about the rule of law and equal application of the Law.

How many Visitors overstay their visas? Do they pay the extra money to extend their visas? Isn’t it a question of revenue for the state? So, collect the revenue and let the guy stay, if he wants to. Why should he be discriminated?

      One cannot have double standards.

Bill of rights, is needed for Sri Lankans and a single standard.

He applied for a Tourist visa and was granted a 30 days visa.. BUT he indulged in Political work with or without pay, which is not allowed as per the visa regime for tourists. If he wanted to apply for citizenship, he should of applied from OZ and not while in SL on a holiday visa that too after the EXPIRY of the visa. Why did the AG ask the immigration not to deport him earlier, when he had ALREADY used up the 30 days and was OVERSTAYING HIS VISA and WORKING in the political field?

LOL this idiot is compared to the current Governor of Central Bank…duh its like Apples and Olives (weralu) not even Oranges…

Even if he applies for citizenship now, he shouldnt be granted one, coz he has already broken the law….

Can we deport All those Mahinda Rajapaksa Crooks, Robbers and Murderers who broke the law to India, where they, the Paras, originally came from?

      Snowden Edward Asange:
You seem to have summed up the facts, as have several others. What needs to be investigated is who supplied the wherewithal for this man to run back and forth between Australia and Sri Lanka. Perhaps, Mr. Tony Abbott, if he is not too busy fighting off the insurgency in his own party against his leadership, can assist in this work like he did his friend, MR, to whom he supplied gun boats (at no charge!)

Whole citizenship and passport granting process is not credible and soon nobody in world would recognise it.
Following are the few instances in point.
    * Somawansa Amarasinghe once sought refuge in green pastures with fake passport and he came back to SL and engaged in politics.
    * Previous president MR suddenly revoked granting citizenship with no valid reason and gave it to his affiliates through back door.
*MR gave pardon to KP who hold multiple fake passports.
*MY3 used his presidential powers and granted citizenship to Arjun !agendran , governor of Central Bank within a day.
    * Ravi K, finance minister suddenly announces the price of citizenship is Rs 500,000 and anybody can get it.
    * Now,Frontline Socialist party was claiming Kumar Gunaratnam’s case is a political issue. All know he sought refuge in Australia and he is using a fake passport and broke tourist visa rules by engaging in politics.

There should be a coherent and credible process for passport and citizenship issues and should not be on hands with corrupted politicians.

If this man has arrived on a “Visit Visa” and overstayed, he must be arrested and deported and the Government has to show that they mean business. If anyone is holding him preventing being arrested and deported he/she also must be taken to task. This country must show its STRENGTH in dealing with all matters. Why there must be a DEBATE?

To begin with this man should not have been allowed to enter the country, because he was a holder of a “Fake Passport” and disguised in different names; and those facts should have been taken into consideration in granting that visit visa. This so called Frontline Socialist Party must be banned for “HOLDING” an ALIEN and preventing legal action against such a person. Is this our Government’s YAHAPALANAYA?
