Decide Against Releasing Gnanasara Considering Broad Public Implications: Lawyers For Democracy Tells President

Lawyers for Democracy, in a statement, requested President Maithripala Sirisena to decide against releasing Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagoda Atte Gnanasara on Presidential pardon considering the broad public implications of such a move.

Gnanasara

In the statement, Lawyers for Democracy said releasing Gananasara Thera on Presidential pardon would set a bad precedence regarding contempt of court and create a culture of impunity, especially for those in priesthood.

The full statement issued by the organization is as follows,

Lawyers challenge the Move to Pardon Convicted Criminal Rev. Gnanasara

Lawyers for Democracy (LfD) is concerned by reports indicating a possible grant of presidential pardon to Rev. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara, who is well known for his aggressive conduct and inciting of violence, particularly communal hatred. Rev Gnansara has a long history of fueling ethnic and religious tension in this country. It is unfortunate and telling that no formal legal measures has been taken against him thus far except in an instance of contempt of court and of intimidating Mrs. Sandya Ekneligoda. On 24th May 2018, he was convicted of intimidating a victim witness in the case of the alleged enforced disappearance of political journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda in 2018.

We wish to publicly raise the following concerns and urge President Maithripala Sirisena to consider the rule of law & constitutional implications of deciding to so grant a pardon:

1. In August 2018, Rev. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara was convicted by the Court of Appeal on four charges of contempt of court for disturbing the criminal proceedings in the well of the Magistrate’s Court of Homagama, inter alia, threatening the State Counsel. The incident has been immediately subsequent to a refusal of an application for bail by military intelligence officers who were suspects in a disappearance case. He was sentenced to 19 years of rigorous imprisonment to be served concurrently to be completed within 6 years. He was also previously convicted by the Homagama Magistrate in June 2018 for intimidating witness-victim Mrs. Sandya Ekneligoda in the court and sentenced to 6 months rigorous imprisonment.

2. We have come to know that Rev. Gnanasara has a previous conviction on 22-5-200 in Magistrate Court case number 6315/200 in Colombo Traffic Court on the charge of causing an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol. We are made to understand that there are investigations pending against him regarding other criminal conduct including the communal riots in Aluthgama.

3. The President’s power to pardon a convict is subject to judicial review. In our view, prior to pardoning a criminal, report should be called from the Hon. Attorney General and Ministry of Justice. We are aware that neither the Attorney General nor the Minister of Justice has submitted any report regarding the pardoning of this convict. These observations become indispensable as the pardon that will be administered will be for the offence of contempt of court and will signal to the public that it is possible to act in such threatening manner in a court room and with complete disregard to the judiciary and officers of law, and thereafter use the fact that the criminal belongs to the priesthood and through political influence obtain such a pardon. A pardon if not exercised with due diligence and careful consideration of the rule of law implications will contribute to a culture of impunity.

4. We are surprised to read the letter of the Minister of Buddha Sasana forwarding several requests from personalities claiming to be religious leaders addressed to the President in respect of seeking a pardon. We emphasize that the Minister of Buddha Sasana has no legitimate role to play in pardoning a criminal.

5. This is a rear instance of a convict who was sentenced to imprisonment due to his intimidatory behavior in the well of the Court and intimidate the prosecuting State Counsel. Pardoning him will have a chilling effect on the judiciary and the Attorney General’s Department.

6. We have seen an unfortunate build-up of media reports justify pardoning of this convict suggesting that he has contributed immensely to Buddhism. It is our view that this media hype appears to have vested political interest. Contrary to the position that appears to be promoted by this reportage, Rev. Gnanasara is seen an aggressive violent individual who worked against ethnic and religious harmony of this country and who was an active politician.

7. We have no doubt that his release will have serious adverse impact on the Ekneligoda disappearance case and all other pending cases of political significance particularly those involving the military. Such a pardon will strengthen impunity in Sri Lanka and discourage victims and witnesses from pursuing justice, as the system would be seen as failing them. This will also create a negative antecedent, particularly of the office of the President which will be perceived as protecting a convict who disrupted and threatened legitimate judicial proceedings. It will also diminish respect for and in the office of the Hon. Attorney General.

We urge the President to consider the broad public implications of the decision to grant a pardon to Rev. Gnanasara and to decide against such pardon based on the immensely negative impact it will have. We will be compelled to resort to all available avenues to resist and redress such reprehensible abuse of power.

Yes, almost all the Muslims are blind, we know that & the irony that considerable number of Buddhists as well are blind.

President please don’t be among them.

Isn’t it significant that there is not even a Muslim name that can be seen in the list of Lawyers for Democracy?
That too after all the racist inequities and sufferings Muslims underwent in places like Aluthgama ,Digna, Putlam and such places.
Does that mean they do not believe in democracy and wish Gnanasara Thero’ s pardon and release by Sillysena?

I don’t think so, they fear Venereal Gandasara might “devour” their families and set fire to their house and property!

The stint in gaol has given good ol’ Ganasara Lankan matinee idol looks ……….. no wonder Champa and the gals have got the hots for him

6 more years ……. he would come out looking like Arnold schwarzenegger.

      Let’s start from the last point of “Lawyers-for-What”;
      .
7.) Venerable Gnanasara Thero is not the judge who handled the case of Ekneligoda’s unverified body-less-death. Therefore, the pardoning of the Thero has no impact on any court cases.
      .
6.) Lawyers-for-What should learn to respect media freedom. Moreover, any citizen in this country is free to engage in politics. They don’t need the permission from Lawyers-for-What.
      .
5.) An LTTE terrorist was pardoned by the President. Many hardcore terrorists were given comfortable jail terms and some were released without any punishment. I don’t remember Lawyers-for-What objecting for releasing of terrorists to the society right away.
      .
4.) Lawyers-for-What has no authority to dictate terms to Minister of Buddha Sasana or any of the religious leaders. Mind your own damn business.
      .
3.) Presidential pardon is an exclusive power exercised by the President. He doesn’t need anybody’s permission. At his discretion, he can pardon religious leaders, even elderly people or women who are facing death penalty. For your information, Lawyers-for-What, President can even pardon himself for any wrongdoings, except on impeachments!!
      .
2.) Pending cases have nothing do with this matter. Learn to talk to the point, you, Lawyers-for-What.
      .
1.) Hooray, a good point!!! Venerable Gnanasara Thero was charged for contempt of court for disturbing criminal proceedings against military intelligence officers who were denied bail for no reason. The Thero, who is naturally vociferous, lost patience and his reaction was spontaneous. The pain and anger felt by Thero at that time, were felt by the country, too. Hello, Mr. President, Lawyers-for-What has given you a brilliant point here in support of commuting the prison sentence of the Thero. Please, take it and pardon Venerable Gnanasara Thero!!!! Thank you!!!

The ‘Lawyers for Democracy’ have their own right to place their views and they too need not have any bodies permission.

“The Thero, who is naturally vociferous, lost patience and his reaction was spontaneous. The pain and anger felt by Thero at that time, were felt by the country, “

Sorry, the anger of this idiot’s impending pardon is being felt by the country and you can see how many are speaking against his release. Is this the standard you want your religion to achieve. He is a criminal conveniently clad in robes.

          Shrikharan
How many are speaking against his release? Only a handful set of NGO funded lawyers who were behind the Federal Constitution as well.
Buddhists priests being vociferous is nothing new to Sri Lanka since ancient times, as they are the custodians of sacred relics, temples and Buddhist monuments. Protecting the country is one of their prime responsibilities. Even the British were intimidated by the “Saffron Robes.” If not, Sinhalese would have been entirely annihilated by the British.
You are living in a country where history repeats continuously.

This is wrong, There lot more among passive sinhala buddhists are among the ones who would not want this mischievous creature be back from prisons. Meaning that that he should get rotten in a prison cell but he should learn to be civlized. The disparaging words droped down from his lips were like raids. You guys are not reborn, so, the recent past, was darkened by the actions of BBS led facism in the country. Truth is bitter, people s anxities would not recover, once this bugger would be back to his usual operandi. Once a criminal would never bee a crimina for the rest of life, but times should be given tothe high cirminals of Ghanasara nature for good.

I am a born buddhist as almost every buddhist in SL, but I dont belong to SINHALA buddhist catergory. They are the barbaric forces in our place. Eaerlier they would be crushed away, the better. Let alone our future generations could live in peace.

I would love to see Rajakashes too being found their destinies the same manner, Gadafi and Sadam found in the end. The desastrous consequences being faced by people today, is curse to Rajakashe BPs.

Srilanka is a country with much higher potential to become an another Spore. But so long Rajakashe led extremist movements are there, the destitute would fall even much deeper. that alone is good enough VARIOUS devine forced to raw bury Rajapkashes.

If the buggers would have been found gunned down on street corners, I would never shed a tear drop. They are that abusive men, deserve only prison cells.

I never support the list of your friends mentioned in the first line of your comment. The same way, I don’t support blood thirsty terrorists, either.
I am always against selective justice imposed on Buddhist priests and tri forces personnel.
Explain why LTTE Air Tigers who killed 14 people including Army men and destroyed/damaged 8 + 10 aircraft received only 5 years and Venerable Gnanasara Thero received received 19 years for contempt of court for being vociferous against military intelligence officers not being granted bail?
Three military officers are on death penalty based on evidence of terrorists while blood thirsty terrorists were given comfortable jail terms. Some terrorists were even paid COMPENSATION.
There is a profound double standard here. If you think I will keep quiet, you are mistaken.

                Champa,
I am not here to explain what is happening in your Buddhist Sinhala Fundamentalists courts. It is your courts sentenced your war hero Sarath Fonseka for winning the war with LTTE. There are number of innocent Tamils were inside the jail for many years without any evidence or charge of crime. Even the Mahinda who ordered the murder of Lasantha is free to become the king of Buddhist Sinhala Fundamentalists nation. I fully agree with you that your nation is absolutely a corrupt judiciary system for many decades. Even you are a double standard Sinhala Buddhist Fundamentalist.

Champa, courts of law law have various acceptable considerations and sentencing policies before handing down the sentences.

                1. Number of years in remand. – It is no secret that suspects are kept in prolonged custody before indictments/charge sheets are filed in court.Trial takes sevaral years. LTTE suspects who are thus convicted may have spent more than a decade before their trial begins.
2.Some of them plead guilty so as to save the several years that may be spent in trial proceedings. Court gives concessions when the accused plead guilty .
3.A settlement may be reached for reduced sentence with consent from Attorney general’s department who will weigh the pros and cons of the available evidence against the accused.
                4. Consideration is usually given to the family circumstances of the accused – elderly parents/young children to support, health condition, being the only bread winner in the family etc.

None of the above will apply to the Most Reverend Gnanassara Thero who is a well nourished, unrepentent criminal with a criminal record to boot and with no family obligations. So let him face the consequences of his acts.

                  Just man
You are talking about courts of law not presidential pardon.
I have doubt about this “acceptable considerations.”
For an eg: I saw a school teacher was sentenced to 2 year RI for assaulting a child, a police officer was sentenced to 24 years for a Rs. 5000 bribe and another for 8 years for a Rs. 3000 bribe while a notorious drug lord was released on bail and terrorists who killed 14 people and 8 people in separate incidents received only 5 years while in another case, 2 terrorists were received over 100 year sentence!!!!
As everybody can see, something is very wrong here. It is not the law. The law is intact.

It is just your word and mine. At least here in the Colombo Telegraph I showed you majority are against this fellow.

So there is a sizable amount against him. If you want to prove your point then have an all island preference voting either for or against this thug.

On the contrary Buddhism is inherently a silent peaceful and introspective Philosophy. Was the ‘Compassionate One’ vociferous when he delivered his message of Peace to the world at large on the day he attained ‘Self Realisation’?

              Uthungan
There is no truth that Portuguese has deposed the Sacred Tooth Relics. See the history.
In order for protection, the Sacred Tooth Relics were sent to King Mahasena of Lanka through Prince Danta and Hemamala who travelled to North of the country.
Historians have later recognized the port where they have embarked may have been Lankapatuna in the East, while Jambukola Patuna was the main port which had been used by Sinhalese Kings, South Indian travellers and invaders as it is the closest point to South India.
As King Mahasena had passed away before Prince Danta reached Lanka, relics had been hidden in Temples in North before taken to King Mahasena’s son, Keerthi Sri Megavanna in Anuradhapura.
In 1560, Portuguese have found a replica of reliquary of Sacred Tooth Relics in a Temple in Jaffna. Portuguese had destroyed them in public, thinking that they were the real. Sinhalese knew it was a replica, so they didn’t mourn at the “loss.”
Having replicas of Sacred Tooth Relics is nothing new.
Even in 1566, Sinhalese King of Kandy had deceived Portuguese by selling “a replica” of Sacred Tooth Relics while actually keeping the real relics in his possession.
When the Burmese King Anuruddha has requested the relics be sent to him, King Vijayabahu-I has sent “a replica” of Sacred Tooth Relics, instead of the real ones.
Even the unchanged body of Venerable Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thero, which Portuguese found in a rock cave, which was sent to Goa, India, is erroneously claimed that of Francis Xavier who died during the journey while taking Thero’s body to Goa. Nobody can explain how Xavier’s body remains unchanged, while it is our common knowledge that Venerable Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thero consuming “medicinal Siddhartha Oil” is the reason why his body remains incorruptible even today.

There is nothing to invent. For your information, our history is already written in many chronicles, in varied time periods.
The only problem was, upto now Sinhalese didn’t talk about their history or didn’t bother to write about it in an English forum. Even if we saw our history was twisted, changed or revised, we never countered it. Well, gone are the days.

Hi my friends, with freezing temperatures almost kill us across Europe and US, anxities whether or not Ghanasara would be set free, makes us even more unpleasant.
Let s hope the voice shine by a group of lawyers would be heard above the unanimous decision of the president to release him. Looking back the recent decisions made by President even not respecting the constitution, we are bit pessimistic. However, let s hope the best.
      :
Even if Ghanasara would enjoy a release, the day his next verdict would not have been far. In that manner, he will have to be in and out when considering the whole lot of crimes already filed against him. I do believe, Durga Town people may have already filed cases, and earlier to that, the manner he harrassed the muslim shop keepers on HALAL food conflict and etc, .. will not for sure leave him scot free.
Hope even if the bugger monk would be free, he would not send violent waves once again with the same pace.
All in all, what reeks me is, nothing seem to work in this country. Last night I happened to watch that Aluth Parlimenthuwa weekly program being telecasted by Rajapkashe orifice-DERANA TV, there what came to even clearer, that they though work on DRUG eradication to some extents, but they dont yet have made collective efforts. Police sounds to be not paying wholeheartedness towards the drug control in the country. SURE; if a small portion of police men are directly involved in drug related frauds, the IGP seems to be not powerful enough, to handle it yet. That is a sad news for MOTHERs whose sons becoming easy prey fo the drugs today.

This is to show you guys the nature of Punishments being given on any criminals on the west.

      Germany/31 Feb 2019

Just now I heard the news on German TV- an asylum seeker ( young man in his early 20 ties) from Iran is convicted for the crime he committed.
      :
Crime: is him to have thrown a heavy stone on a moving vehicle (a car droven by a mid-aged female) damaging the windscreen of the car.
      :
Court has verdicted it as – motive to have murdered that woman. The punishment is 7 year-imprisonment.
      :
This man Balusara is put im jail for 3 years albeit his crimes are not aimed at one single person, but many. Nevetherless, big hue and cry, him tobe released not even having spent just 1 year in the prison. . Our LAW IS NOT RIGROUS enough. These men should put in jail for the rest of life, considering the punishments being given on the west.

      Real Revolutionist / January 30, 2019,

The only reason he is being considered for pardon, for his crimes, is that he is saffron clad Para-Sinhala Para”Buddhist”, and he is an insult to Buddha.

Buddha would have advised, avoid him, as he is not following the Vinaya, Rules of the monks, and let him have the punishment.

Pardoning Ganasara will led to more anarchy.

          There are no Tamil prisoners.
By their own admission, and based on evidence collected by intelligence officers by sacrificing time, energy and even their lives, all those terrorists in prison who had committed war crimes should not be released but given life sentences as an example to the society.
It has proved that they are beyond rehabilitation. Rehabilitated Karuna threatened Sinhalese a few months ago not to forget who he was prior to war was over and many so called rehabilitated terrorist cadre were apprehended with weapons. Some are on the run. A number of hardcore suicide LTTE commandos will come out in 2025 after completing their comfortable jail terms. There is an overt and covert huge move to resurrect LTTE. Army should be vigilant.

If you say your war heroes should not be touched for whatever they have done and are sacred, the same applies to the Tamils.

The LTTE are their war heroes and they also should not be touched for whatever they too have done and they too are scared as far as Tamils are concerned and simple as that!

              blablah
Our Army fought with life to protect the country from terrorists and that is why they are called war heroes.
Not a single Tamil considers blood thirsty LTTE terrorists, who killed almost all Tamil leaders, and who forcibly recruited children and women and made them kill innocent civilians ruthlessly, as war heroes. Not even jailed LTTE cadre think so.

Silly enough not to have reacted sufficiently in any of the issues, the folks have been suffering from since then. As a whimsical person, he may feel that he has been doing similar to the manner philiphines Duterte does, but not even a single one in rank and file seems trusting him today. I would not have too much of faith in the President. He has shown time and time again, that he is not very smart in doing things, including the last fiasco which had Sri Lanka with 2 Prime Ministers. There are many interested parties with ulterior motives who want this orange robed thug pardoned, including Buddhist monks and leaders, who seem to be putting religion over the well being, and safety of minorities.

Of course not. Being a terrorist in Sri Lanka is much easier and less punishable than any other crime.
You can kill as many as you want, blast bombs, bring lorry loads of bombs, destroy religious, economic or defence bases, you will only receive maximum 5 years, and if your PM has a deal with terrorists, sometimes you will be released without any punishment. Even if you confessed of your crimes, you will be released if you confession involved of terrorist acts.

Just to remind you. You killed 10000 Sinhala youths in 1970, 60000 Sinhala youths and civilians in 1989/90, and over 50,000 Tamils in 2009 by using all those methods and in addition to the checimal weapons, cluster bombs. You also destroyed over 1000 Hindu religious places, schools, school children, hospitals, refugee camps, rape of hundreds of women etc. Before 1983 you used knives, swords, petrol to kill innocent Tamils. All this attributed in the name of Lord Buddha. What do you get for these? Promotions, War heros, PhDs, President, Prime Minister, Ambassadors.

I wonder how could 520,976 Tamils in Jaffna and Vanni voted in the 2015 Presidential Election? Did they all wake up from graves?

            Champa,
Do you know the Population of Tamils in the Northern region in 1981 and 2012. The population of Tamils in 1981 was over 1000,000 (over 1 million) and in 2012 reduced to 993000. The Sinhalese population in this country increased by 4000,000 (over 4 million). The increase was 1.40. On this basis the Tamil population in the Northern region should be 1.5 million.
However, You should remember based on Govt information there were 400, 000 Tamils were in the Vanni Region only. But during the last phase it is your govt said that there were only 70,000 but at the end of war 300000 Tamils came out of Vanni. Your boss said that there was not a single civilian were killed during the war. Did they all wake up from the graves? What happened to those 100,000? At this point over 250 skulls were found from the Mannar graves. If you dig all the military camps in the Vanni you may find the truth about how many were massacred by your boss.

You say in 1981, the Tamil population in Sri Lanka was over 1 million.
Do you know the Tamil population in Sri Lanka in 2011? It was 2.2 million, which is almost double as was in 1981, while Sinhalese population in 1981 was 10.9 million and in 2011 it was only 15.2 million.
              How many Tamils have migrated?
According to “Vimalarajah & Cheran 2010”, there are over 1 million Sri Lankan Tamils overseas by 2010.
According to Crisis Group Asia Report 2010, over 500,000 Tamils have fled the country during the war.
According to the same report, until 2009, Tamil diaspora has donated US$200,000 a year, to LTTE’s terrorist activities in Sri Lanka!
The number game played by Tamils since 1959 about their population can easily be proved as fabricated.

The President can pardon even these ‘lawyers for demos’ if they have taken bribes from the Tamil Diaspora and their lobby groups. Check their $$$ accounts and they will need this special presidential pardon in the near future, specially if Gota comes to power!
As Champa says these ‘lawyers for what’ is for actually what? What have they done so far to safeguard democracy in SL? Have they forced the government to hold elections? No, not at all. If you join a group of lawyers interested in democracy, that group should be impartial and honest. This gang don’t speak a word about the Central bank day time robbery! Central hwy robbery!! or many commission robberies committed by Yahapalana stalwarts!!! do they?
The first guy on the list took Rs. 3 millions just to write a report on Sri Lankan that was thrown to the garbage bin immediately. This amount of Rs 3 million is poor taxpayers’ money and he had no shame to pocket it in the name of Yahapalanaya.
If you know anything about the rest of the gang let us know. (If CT is ready to publish them)! This group should be renamed as ‘lawyers for crazy demos’!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#Talking about the rights of Sinhala Buddhists who are the native people in Seehala Nadu as Tamils in Hindusthan called this country is a crime.
#Talking about vandalizing Sinhala Buddhist heritage in North and East by minorities who are the descendants of slaves brought to this country illegally by colonial barbarians and Muslims who were saved by Sinhala Buddhist King Senerath from Parangi persecution is a crime.
#Prison sentence for LTTE terrorists who have committed multiple murders is five years, but six years for Ven. Gnanasara for contempt of court.
#Although Ven.Gnanasara is blamed for anti-Muslim riots at Aluthgama, the real culprits are in the Government.
#Vigneshwaran, Siwajilingam can make anti-Sinhala remarks but no one blame them for inciting communal hatred.
#Don Juan Wickkama-singham is doing same kinds of things British colonial parasites did against Sinhala Buddhists.
#Ven.Gnanasara was removed from the scene to prevent him making a public outcry against the new constitution that will be an ‘Aekeeya Rajjaya’ by name but a confederate State in reality.

      .
What matters is the size of hatreds Mr Burupala. That you should be well aware of since you arenow in your late 70ties. Not many years ahead of you, until you finally walakajja gahanwa, as any living would do. But instead of trying to have a peaceful mind, you guys to stay that festated is beyond bearing.
      :
Even in Germany, yet today, there are portions of NPD men (Nazists supporters) specially in new new provinces. But main stream politicians crush them any rises of the nazists, as theirs would not stand out. People s stand against them is becoming even more powerful. NGOs and anti-nazist parties work together. Average opinions would never become similar to that of us sinhala srilankens.
      :
:The reason has been GERMAN press would never allow racists to promote their opinions while srilanken MEDIA institutions are caught by hidden hand of extremists of Rajakashe nature.
      :
. So, my question to you, as yours stands out always as the KING of sinhala racists; do you have any examples to show us, any of sinhala leaders sofar stood against against srilanken EXTREMISTS. No?
      .
Lanken leaders are no honest at all. Instead of solving long standing disputes, they just let them to grow further. So, your kind of RACIAST would be reborn in the same country as racists.

    Dear Lawyers for Democracy,

At least, Rev. Gananssara, has served his prison term partly. He was convicted and given his term. But how about Black court mafia alleged corporate Criminal, Arjuna Mahendra. Why do not you write to Singapore Government to send him to Sri Lanka.

There is a news paper article published in South Africa today, Business Today, says, Arrjuna Mahendran working as a consultant in Singapore. Any body can access this article .

What a double standard legal system in Sri Lanka. One legal system for Rev. Ganasara and other small time Pol Horu and poor people. One for alleged Super class corporate and bank robbers.

Lawyers for Democracy- what a double standard code of ethics you practice. Ask the Sri Lankan government to implement proper legal procedures and bring Arjuna Mahendran and other MPS who got money from the Central Bank Bond Scam first .

      Sunil Dahanayake,
      .
In your disparaging comments UNFORTUNATELY contain mainly about Arjuna Mahendran why is that ?.
      :
We have bunch of the same grade of CRIMINALs in the country, yet today – THAT IS none other than your GOD father – BP Mahinda Jarafukse ?

Mafia boss himself being former Minsiter of finance should be even more responsble for a huge loss amounting to 990 Billions rupees through bond scams (this should have been a resut of the modus operandi of central bank since 2008).
Latter was made clear to the nation by SILLYSENA. His experts had MADE him balck and white, that the HUGE losses deliberately made by Central bank, by same bond scams were over 990billions rps.
      .
Meaning, you guys are taken a ride by local biased MEDIA by painting out the picture advantageous to former Mafia boss who would mislead punnakku eaters of the country whenever he thought it is right.

Just imagine, why the media is SILENT today, with PPL men being released on bail ?
And the losses made by GG govt is just 1% of all the huge losses resulted by BOND scam of Rajathuma.
Besides, 10 billions that is said to have been gone loss are still frozen in CB according to CBG.
You seem to be just coughing up being caught by the FASLE propaganda soledy based on tarnish the image of UNP. But truths will come out sooner than later. Let s wait patiently as we can.
JVPrs are caught by ONLY abusing their MOUTHS to attack UNPrs, no in life, JVPrs can win the hearts of the people.

        Sam Fernando,
You had almost 4 years to bring to books all those who were alleged criminals of the previous government. Hadn’t you? Why didn’t you do it? Were you sleeping or helping the Central Bank robbers or/and Central Hwy robbers?
What the hell are you talking about now? Do you want us to keep talking about things that never happened during the last government of MR for the rest of our lives? Do you want us to talk about golden horses, bucking-ham palaces in NY, or golden helicopters for how long? Are you joking or what? Are you a sort of Army-worm caterpillar in disguise?
Man, just give us a break!

          Good question.
          I never thought about it.
Look, it was Hopper Sirisena who was unhappy about punishing the crooks, war criminals, and common criminals. He was p****d off when Gota and his fellow uniformed crooks and war criminals were summoned to courts on corruption charges. Sirisena is so patriotic he is dead against charging so called war heroes even if they had raped his daughters, wife, mother, sisters, aunts, grandmas, in laws, …………

By the way Ranil too has a long term deal with Mahindawamsa.

You buffoon you got beaten up in parliament and you still don’t get it. Tell the mahanayakas to go to hell if they ever asked you to release this bugger. Let the president take the blame for releasing him wash your hands off.

Buddhism in SL stood tall during 500 years of colonial occupation. Buddhism earned the respect of researchers and it was introduced to the west by them.
    .
Some of us, layLankans, felt that BBS monk Gnanasara has brought disrepute to Buddhism. The article here has some allegations.
But backers of Gnanasara include MR, GR and the present Buddhist Affairs Minister Gamini Jayawickrema Perera.
The following have signed a petition seeking release of the controversial monk: Ramanna Nikaya, Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagi Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha, Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siam Nikaya, and the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter of the Siam Nikaya.
    .
Religions change over time. We are in the process of change from Tripitka to BBS.
Are the opponents of the release, overrating themselves?

Any person who has violated the law of the land and been convicted of an offence or offences must pay the price for what he/she did. This person is no exception. The question that should be asked of the President and all those who are advocating his pardon is whether any other person, especially a civilian, would have received a Pardon for identical offences. or whether this person is being treated differently on account of his attire. The attire cannot be a reason for granting a pardon, as there are serious doubts whether this person complied with the rules contained in the Vinaya Pitakaya that are applicable for a person wearing the attire and calling himself a Buddhist Monk. However, such a violation is the business of the Sangha themselves, but the attire should not protect this person from anything that an ordinary person is not protected from

Most people are not blind, only “blinded” by ignorance as is obvious reading some of these comments.
To hope that justice will win over politics is to believe in illusions ! You can be sure that a “fraud” of the likes of gnanasara, supposedly a ‘buddhist’ , a follower of the philosophy/religion of non violence and mehta (loving kindness) has understood a different kind of buddhism.. the kind that allows him to be a bigot and a racist and someone who has embraced the ways of a pariah. Welcome to politics.
If this is the kind of man our dear President wants to pardon ( lets not insult the true tenants of buddism by calling gnanasara a buddhist pls) then pardon him at your peril by all means as a pariah politician , and not a buddhist, and set the example when we can all expect to get away with “murder” as long as we are party to and play in your dirty game of politics.

Dear Lawyers for democracy and other who oppose Rev. Ganasara’s release from Prison,

Write letters to Singapore PM, and Our President and Inspector General of Police of Sri Lanka to bring Arijuna Mahendran to Sri Lanka and face proper prosecution. Otherwise you all become gentlemen with double standards. We can not have two legal systems. Rev. Ganasara has not done an Economic damge to the country, there is no obvious financial fruad to the country. He was prosecuted and punished. He has been in the Prison for some time now. He did not evade his prosecution.
But there was a report , that first bond scam itself cost or will cost the Sri Lankan Government and Economy at least One Trillion Rupees over a 30 year period. Now compare this with Ganasara’s crime and punishment .
I can mention two other examples.
One school girl who has allegely stolen three coconuts were arrested by the Sri Lankan police. One women who has stolen a few mango fruits from a neighburs garden was arrasted by the Anuradhapura police. How efficient is the Sri Lanka police for poor people. But alleged corporate criminal, Arjuna, working as a consultant in Singapore. But our court system or legal system can not hand over the charge sheet or some legal documents, indicating that his address can not found.
Then write letters for that, to the above officials and publish in the news papers. That is my kind request.
Legal system should be equal to every body.

Eagle Blind, sinhala Buddhism is your imaginary invention and that is how Buddhism has become a big joke in SL. Buddhism is a world religion today and sadly you guys got introduced to that religion from India when you guys were not even a race. You all were nagas and yakshas while Hinduism was flourishing in India and Lanka. Then Buddhism swept through and thus the Buddhist relics in north and east too. Then sadly you guys were left with Buddhism while Saivaism rebounced back and the rest is history and not your stupid manipulated lies like calling Duttegemunu a Sinhala?

If there is protest for Buddhist temples in the north it is really for your stupid sinhala Buddhism and certainly not for Buddhism. They hate the moronic, bad behaved monks.

Entire Lanka was Hindus before the invention of Buddhism entry to Lanka 5 BC. Buddhism has nothing to do with Sinhalas. When Buddhism came there were no such race. Why you guys still worship Ganey deiyo , murugan, shiva, pathing, Vishnu etc., etc? Ignorance today is a crime. Be honest to yourself mate.

Sunil this guy in sivuru is a danger to peace. He is a thug and has insulted judiciary and now locked up. He is a criminal using religion to indulge in crimes. Mahendran a white collar criminal suspect but our guys are unable to bring him because of local crooks and also Singapore has no faith in SL judiciary. You are very unwise to compare both. And also where did you get this figure? Anyway he has to answer and face trial.

      Lankan,
Do you think those who send comments to CT live in Sri Lanka?
When an article appears on CT, if it is in favor of RW and his Yahapalana UNP government, at least 10 persons from Diaspora Tamils jump to give a thumb up blindly approving it. This is the sad fact about CT’s nature of comments. The majority people’s opinion is quite the opposite! They hate this government and they hate Sirisena for having sided with the UNP. That’s why he can not be a presidential candidate again. If he does it again what should they do? Sri Lankans are patient but they will make the right decision on time (at the next elections)!.
Lankan, please come down from the moon and see the ground reality! In this case, Champa is right!

Dear Lawyers for Democracy and Other friends ,

I have seen sometimes these Lawyers for Democracy, Civil socities, are clamouring for super democracy and legal independence et cetera. They always cite examples from countries like UK, Australia, New Zeland, West Europe and other best countries. In those countries, there is a system, if some material fraud or other irregularity happens in the government department or ministry, the respective minister will be asked to resign and if liable will be prosecuted.
Now the Friends and Lawyers for Democracy and other civil socities , please write an open letter requesting Prime Minister of Sri Lanka to resign based on the following allegations and some of these are facts:

    1. Bringing Arjuna Mahendran to Sri Lanka and appointing him to the Central Bank.
    2. An alleged cover up of the Bond Scam by appointing a committee of Lawyers to cover up this Bond Scam. They submitted a report as well.
    3. By giving an speech in the Parliament of Sri Lanka, mentioning sarcastic words such as James bond or Government Bonds.
    4. Behaving in an embarrasing manner in the Parliament, Chanting words saying ” Kawuda Hora, Mahinda Hora”” and many other unacceptable way in the Pariment when questioned about this fraud.
These are only a few. Please write an open letter to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka to resign as he was responsible minister for Central Bank at that time in 2015 and 2016. This is my kind request. Rev. Ganasara is a Halmassa and already in the prison but write a letter to the Thalmaha or Mora who is responsible for appointing an alleged bond scam fraudster.

I have seen and heard a youngish Sinhala Buddhist Thera boast his yellow robe is his
“Insurance and Passport” to walk into any Govt institution. He was, in other ways, suggesting his robe will intimidate officials to submission. He arrogantly insisted there is no way they can refuse him. In my own understanding of what that wise and pious Prince Siddartha preached, this is certainly not so. It is time what goes as our legal system teach these frauds in robe the power and rationale in our laws. Gnanassara is a good example to start with. Men like him and that violent mad Thera in Batticaloa should be taught a lesson other truant Theras will take note of. It is time the Mahanayakas review the method of their intake of their priests. Poverty alone is not sufficient.

    Sam Fernando,

I am a bean counter and know a bit of bond scam and insider trading. I do not go by the biased reports. There is something called materiality concept. I compare based on the materialty. Plus I also worked and working in these super countries whorshipped by our Friends for Lawyers for Democracy and other Civil society members for democracy and legal systems. I am an old man as well . As such I know the history of all these UNP, SLFP and other politiicans and their actions and report cards since 1960s. I read the daily news papers of Sri Lanka. I compare what is happening in Sri Lanka with these countries. I have seen crimes, punishments and penalties imposed on politicans in these countries specially for Money Laundering, frauds etc.

I am also not going Kade for Mahinda or any body. What I would like to see is a Developed democratic Sri Lanka with sound law and order systems. That is why I wrote those comments.
For me Sri Lanka is first, not these bloody useless political parties or any politicians. Ganasara is not the problem today. The bigger problem is that we do not have a democracy in Sri Lanka. We can not have an election for 4 and a half years since August, 2015. We can not give our report card to the current government for 4 and a half years. Is that the democracy for people of Sri Lanka? In these developed countries we can see elections in every three or four years.
