With Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yet to take a decision on whether to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Colombo next month, Sri Lanka has made it clear that India would be isolated if it does not participate in the summit, India media reports.

“All the governments in the Commonwealth had decided unanimously that the Commonwealth Summit will be held in Sri Lanka, so there is no boycott. Isolation will happen to those who do not participate not the other way round,” Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India Prasad Kariyawasam told a television channel, the Press Trust of India reports.
He also told CNN-IBN that the “Prime Minister of India is not only leader in this region but leader in Asia, leader in Commonwealth and even in fact the world, so bearing that in mind….It is a decision that India will have to take bearing in mind the national responsibilities and their profile.”
Last week, Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh said the Prime Minister has been invited by the government of Sri Lanka for CHOGM but the government has not taken any decision.
“The decision will be taken closer to the date (of CHOGM) keeping in view the foreign policy, international obligations and national interest,” she told reporters when asked whether the Prime Minister will travel to Colombo to attend the meet.
The Sri Lankan Envoy’s comments came after the Tamil Nadu Assembly passed an unanimous resolution demanding New Delhi completely boycott CHOGM in Colombo and seek a temporary suspension of Sri Lanka from the Commonwealth.
The Indian Prime Minister’s delay in announcing his decision on whether or not attend the summit in Colombo is being criticised because it is allowing pressure to be applied on the Central Government and keeping the rest of the Commonwealth guessing about New Delhi’s actual position. It is however reliably learnt that Premier Singh is unlikely to attend and will send a relatively low profile representative in his stead to Colombo in November.

Indian fishing trawlers are owned by big Mudalalis/politicians and rented out to fisherman at exorbitant cost. They have to fish as much as possible to meet the costs. This happens at industrial scale.
Licensed Southern fisherman on day boats also grab as much as possible. The Northern fishermen who are mostly confined to shores due to security restrictions or do not have the necessary capital to invest in deep sea fishing are losing out to the competitors.
Now you have the Chinese and Japanese fishing in the muddy waters.
MR won the war against LTTE singe handedly now it seems they have lost it to the Taminadu fishermen. Why should MR or the rest of the country worry about the Northern fisher folks, after all they are only Tamils.
There is no pride in supporting the Tamils nor any votes.

I think SL Navy is doing all they can to protect Sri Lanka’s fragile fishing resources from TN robbery. South Indian poaching fleets are way too large to hinder at all times. Sri Lanka is not exactly a major naval power. We have limited assets.
On the other hand, average TN fishmen are poor folks too. Though not as poor as Northern Sri Lanka’s Tamil fishermen. So, there is a humnaitarian dimension to all this. However, this kind of massive poaching, day in & day out is intolerable.
It is not OK to steal from fellow Tamils of the north for whom TN claims to have endless “sympathy”. Nor is it OK to steal from the younger brother, Sri Lanka. A country struggling to survive after 30 years of civil war. Shame on India.
Indian fishing fleets have already destroyed the Indian Ocean to a great extent. Fact. These fleets are truly huge in numbers. And have no concern for management of marine resources. They manage it exactly the way they manage the Indian mainland. Turning the sea bed into an environmental wasteland. It is a disaster in the making.
This is not a Tamil against Sinhalese issue. Nor is it an anti-Indian thing. A matter we must resolve.
Sri Lanka as a nation must stand up to the TN poaching invasion encouraged by Jayalalitha & Co. And guard against theft of poor northern Tamil fisherman’s livelihood.
Common sense, international maritime law & good neighbourly relationships must prevail.
Racists & opportunsitic politicians on both sides must be beaten back.
May the Sri Lankan fisherman of the northern province win.

Commonwealth Secretary General Kamelesh Sharma is responsible for hiding the critical opinions of experts on the illegality of impeaching the Chief Justice of Supreme Court, that led to the decision of holding it in Colombo.
Sri Lanka must stop showbiz to impress the international community and address the issues of accountability of alleged war crimes and violation of human rights. If Manmohan Singh decides not to attend the Colombo CHOGM history will judge him as the most weakest Prime Minister of India. Tamil Nadu or any other state should not be deciding the foreign policy of India. It is the prerogative of the centre and New Delhi should take the interests of the whole nation into consideration in making decisions on foreign policy matters. State political considertions, particularly the interests of the ruling party’s prospects in the forthcoming Lok Saba elections, should not cloud Manmohan Singh’s decision on this foreign policy issue.
Jayalalitha’s resolution at the Tamil Nadu State Assembly is a clever move to create a permanent divide between DMK and Congress Party. For, if Manmohan Singh decides to attend the Colombo CHOGM, Karunanidhi will not and cannot be expected to get back into the now defunct alliance with Congress Party at the forthcoming Lok Sabha election in Tamil Nadu.Her Tamil Nadu state Assembly resolution is thus a clever ploy to prevent her main rival DMK from entering into a strong coalition with Congress Party and possibly with other opposition parties like Vijakanth’s party and PMK. Jayalalitha is playing her cards cleverly and this resolution while enhancing her position as a strong leader will help keep the opposition parties divided, thus ensuring success for her party at the Lok Sabha election.
If Manmohan Singh is going to miss the Colombo CHOGM it will not be a blow to President Rajapakse. He will still be able showcase the Colombo CHOGM as a great success to his leadership as other major Commonwealth countries like Britain and Australia will still be atteding the conference. India will definitely lose its leverage over the Sri Lankan leader and will not be able to wring out any further concessions for the Tamils. SL Tamils will be the ultimate losers if Manmohan Singh heeds Tamil Nadu and decides not to attend the Colombo CHOGM.

Jeyalaitha’s resolution is mainly confined to the DMK,she is pro Narendra Modi and Manmohan Singh knows that.It is entirely a Tamil Nadu construct to counter Karunanithi’s DMK and has nothing to do with the CHOGM to be held in Colombo.
Karunanithi’s DMK has no alternative but to bed with the Congress whether it likes it or not, for the sake of saving ex-telecom minister H.Raja’s and Kanimoli’s skin on the phone scam issue and there is no cleverness about Jeyalalith’s resolution.Her’s is pretense politics when it comes to Lankan Tamils depending on her moods,like the colors of the sarees she wears.
Manmohan’s decision to, or not attend the CHOGM does not mean any loss of leverage over SL for India.Because if both Britain and Australia are attending it is precisely for the purpose of augmenting and ensuring India’s stance on the right of the minority Tamil people to live as equals with justice and dignity and not as second class citizens in those areas of the N&E where they have predominated and lived for centuries with the Sinhalese majority living in the island.Both Britain and Australia have an influential Tamil Lankan diaspora and cannot afford to ignore that reality.

Sinhalese never learn the lessons from their mistakes and what is happening around them. They think this beautiful island is for them only and they can do anything and no one should query about what they do? It is true if they do to their own people but when it is involved with others then that is different.
It is laughable that Sri Lankan high commissioner of India threatening its powerful neighbor who helped out of the way to come out of a threat from the division of the country. If Sinhala Sri Lanka thinks that they can threat India is using China card it is very dangerous. Sinhalese may think Chinese are Buddhists and China will be with them. China is not foolish to go against India to save Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka will be isolated and Sinhalese will be erased from history if Sri Lanka makes such mistake.
India made a historical mistake to make a policy change to support Sri Lanka in the war against LTTE. India wanted to eliminate LTTE because of Rajiv Gandhi murder but did not think the danger of Sri Lanka being an enemy of India. India needs a good trustworthy neighbor and if India feels that Sri Lanka is a dangerous then there will be a policy change and that is disastrous for Sinhalese in Sri Lanka. India now slowly realizes that needs the support of Tamils and they can trust Tamils than Sinhalese. They are not going to loose much from Sinhala Sri Lanka because there is a great potential for them to invest in the Tamil Sri Lanka and they can guarantee their security.
