Deshabandu Sanath Jayasuriya is accused of leaking a ‘revenge porn’ sex tape, where he is filmed having sex with one of his ex-partners and the issue is going to be lodged with the National Center for Cyber Security Sri Lanka, Colombo Telegraph can reveal today.
Sanath Jayasuriya a former captain of the Sri Lanka national cricket team and also a former Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development under the Rajapaksa regime.
The said tape shows Jayasuriya having sex with one of his ex-partners is now widely circulating via social media as well as through individual electronic accounts.
The video seen by Colombo Telegraph clearly shows Jayasuriya himself recording their sexual encounter.
His ex-partner in the video is now married to a well-known businessman and media tycoon, who himself owns a gossip segment under his well-established television, radio and web company.
After the video went viral on social media this morning, the woman in the video, who considers herself a victim, had told several of her close friends “This is revenge. He himself recorded it. This was filmed when we were lovers”.
According to her this was recorded when the Deshabandu ‘Master Blaster’ Jayasuriya and she were lovers.
“We got engaged in a temple because at that time he was not divorced from his legally wedded wife” she told her friends who are planning to lodge a complaint on her behalf tomorrow with the National Centre for Cyber Security in Sri Lanka.
Revenge porn is a common phenomenon in the modern media era, but cases involving high profile individuals have been rare in Sri Lanka.
Several attempts by Colombo Telegraph to contact Jayasuriya to obtain his side of the story proved futile.
Incidentally Jayasuriya’s ‘Deshabandhu’ title is the third highest national honour conferred to Sri Lankan citizens.
Meanwhile, employees in her husband’s media outfit have complained that internet access has been restricted in their offices. “We haven’t been able to access internet since this morning” one of his employees told Colombo Telegraph, but added “everyone has sophisticated personal mobile phones and we all saw the video.”
Later in the evening Colombo Telegraph was told that all personal mobile phones were confiscated from staff who were on duty.
