There are some whose opinions that are not worth bothering about. I’d say the opinion about me talking or writing ‘crap’ is one of these.
If I am to commit to paper, the comments made to me on my phone, day in, day out, the nights included, it will constitute pronography.
I am intersted to know why, in addition to physical barbarism (as seen in the UK Ch 4 Sri Lnaka’s Killing Fields), the ‘patriotic Sinhalese’ seem to be incapable of speaking or, ususally writing, anything but coarse, even obscene, language. It is a worry.
I get a string of abuse for about 72 hours after each talk i give or each article i write. Its not just about me but about my (dead) mother too. If they do to their mothers what they accuse me of doing to my mother, then they clearly have a psychiatric problem and need help.
It will do their cause more good (that is if they have a ’cause’), if these ‘patriotic Sinhalese’ submit a response to the alleged ‘crap’. This they seem to be incapable of doing.
This type of thing no longer bothers me.The ‘son of a bitch’ and “you m….r-f…g Tamil Tiger c…t” etc To these abusive phone calls I respond in the Queens English (rather than the Pettah fish-market variation of ‘english’). I ususally thank them for staying awake for so many hours to call me at 15 min intervels to abuse me. I usually end by saying “Please free to call me again, but can we move away from pornography? Thank you for calling”.
I’d suggest that people have another look at the Channel 4 Video.Killing Fields. No, not the murders or the torture, the slicing with a penknife etc. Leave that aside and just listen to the LANGUAGE used by the Sri Lankan military, referring to the raped and murdered Tamil girls, and even the language used between two soldiers. i think it is about 23 minm the start of the video. the language is as worrying as the deeds.
It seems to be a pathological inability to anything other than extremely foul language. i have no medical explanation for this unique phenomenon. mush of it revolves around sex. its a sort of sexual perversion. look at the UK Channel 4 video again and see (or rathe, hear), for yourself.
As for Mr Max Silva, I suggest you leave him alone. There are things you cannot change. For good measure, you might listen to the Hon Mervin Silva, Rajapakss’s Minister of Public Relations. i cannot remeber much Sinhalese any longer, but transalting as best i can, it sounds very crude stuff. You cannot change him either

Specifically, the killing of rival Tamil leaders, Tamil and Singhalese civilians, the Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the use of Tamils as human shields and the ‘recruiting’ of Tamil children (actually the abduction of Tamil children to use as ‘cannon fodder’)?
Actually, the atrocities committed by the Tamil Tigers were much worse than this (though they are evil enough). One atrocity that is not mentioned in this speech is the calculated, cynical creation of a suicide cult designed to protect the Tamil Tiger leadership. Perhaps you can help us find out who supplied the cyanide that young Tamil women were garlanded with by the likes of Adele Balasingham, and who developed and orchestrated this murderous strategy of the LTTE? Perhaps you can also advise us as to what punishment those who supported these atrocities from the safety of Western countries should face?

Young Tamils spoke to the racist government with the language the government understood. When Tamils refused to bow their heads when repeatedly knocked and refused to live as slaves in shame, the terrorist government butchered hundred of thousands of innocent Tamil civilians in the name of eliminating ‘terrorism’..Stealing Tamil’s land through militarization in the name of ‘reconciliation’..Your father seen it all. Rory, I can not reveal myself for reasons best known as I will not be living to tell the tale, as the saying goes. I am a pure Sinhalese not a descendant of the Portuguese. I can assure the majority Sinhalese have no problems with Tamils as Sinhalese we have derived inspiration for both Language and Religion from Indian influence. Unfortunately the majority of the Sinhalese are not organised, where as the minority who oppose the Tamils are organised like the JVP, where the base is around a two hundred and fifty thousand in a society of 20 million. Thus they have a strong voice without numbers. Doctor Brian Seneviratne’s efforts are valued by the real Sinhalese and trust we will be able to overcome these obstacles we face to live as human beings on this planet.

I listened to all you had to say with interest as I was thinking of retiring to our once lovely island!! However , I was told of the white vans that arrive and disappearances that follow, also of bodies floating down rivers and of the oily men( I first heard of these in India when in a convent there)I cannot imagine how things have changed as we were so lucky to enjoy peace and harmony ,yes even during the years of the ‘dreadful British’ who gave us all those wonderful schools, hospitals, roads and even incorrupt Civil servants all to our benefit. As one Sinhalese man told me in Kandy about 2 years ago.” At least the British enabled us to eventually get the vote otherwise we would have had Rajakariya still under a Tamil despot”. He had worked for the Agricultural dept. Having lived in India, I couldnt help noticing that even after 50 odd years so many are denied free education there. In Lanka this is not the case so why do these commentators hysterically use the language of the gutter when in disagreement?. Such fits of apoplexy, just because some of us have seen evidence and care about our country? It reflects so badly on Lankans worlwide.I hope none reading all of this imagines that all Lankans share such characteristics so please let me say that there are many gentle,caring, kind and hospitable folk still left in Lanka //You have raised your head above the parapet in defence of human rights in the country of your birth and I admire you for it. The world must know that there are Lankans AND Lankans.I for one am glad to be both British and Lankan respecting greatly the culture and history of both lands. My ancestor sailed from one lovely island to another. With a population of 21 million it will not be Moslems or Tamils v Sinhalese but Sinhala against Sinhala whether Buddhist or not as we saw when the JVP caused such horrors which never surprised me. In Lanka, a Sinhala Taxi driver told me that I was looking at Lanka thru’ rose coloured glasses when I spoke of the kindest folk I knew and loved in my childhood who I still meet. He told me, now neighbour would kill neighbour for his house and he had to take his tea in a flask for he couldnt afford to buy it in a boutique!!! As you described , I have savoured the delights of the Colombo Hilton (just a cup of tea tho’), stepped outside to see a bundle of rags that was human and hoped it wasnt the belief in birth and rebirth that seemed to make him invisible. I wonder what would transpire if Salvation Army personnel in uniform had taken him in or do they dress in ‘civvies’ now to avoid attack?’ I feel weary from hearing over and over again of this paradise isle for if it is and from what I see at first hand, I wouldnt want to be there when I ‘pop my clogs’!!!. I just hope that it will not become a paradise lost forever.Hope springs eternal so lets hope that Lanka will not become a Chinese colony in all but name. I do remember SWRD saying that he hoped Lanka would become the Switzerland of the East.
