Dreams: A Tribute To The Working Men And Women Of My Country Who Are On Strike Today

I had a dream.No no I lived this dream.

A dream where
…..as a child I together with the neighbourhood kids would scamper down to the beach to collect sand and mix with cement which was 3 or 4 cents a pound and make our own fish tanks.

…..in the school by the sea where we were taught the beauty of languages Sinhala ,English and latin and the romance of literature by a faculty of teaches who thought it their life’s sole purpose was to educate us ruffians,not for one moment stopping to think of remuneration.

…..money was a dirty word not to be spoken of in public, so it did not matter if you had it or not.

…..scribes wrote fast and furiously without fear or favour and these editorials were read and reread and read all over again not only for their value of content but also for the value of language.

…..politicians laughed at what was written about them and laughed among themselves at themselves.

…..it did not matter if you were tamil, sinhala,muslim, burgher,or malay all were one.

…..it did not matter if you won or lost but how you played the game.

then I slept in bliss and what nightmares followed

…..a man being burnt alive under my neighbour’s porch by an angry mob. His only crime that he belonged to a minority community.

…..a beauty queen in the prime of her life being dragged by her hair naked along the street and shot dead by the army in full view of the public.

…..a pyre of smouldering tyres by the roadside burning human remains the stench
of both hanging heavily in the air.

…..the wail of sirens as they transported injured soldiers to the hospitals.

…..he screams of the innocent trapped in their vehicles burning. set alight by blood thirsty mobs.

…..the sadness on the faces of known people as the walked to refugee centers, their homes burnt.

…..worshipers of all faiths being shot to rags in their places of worship

…..unborn children ripped from their mother’s womb by bombs placed in railway carriages and buses

and I slept NO NO NO I was awake NO NO I was asleep but with my eyes wide open,too afraid to close them lest the nightmares will recur.
but I still dream. Of a land

“Where the mind is without fear
and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free
Where the world had not been
broken up into fragments by
narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the
depth of truth.
Where tireless striving stretches its
arms towards perfection.
Where the clear stream of reason
has not lost its way into the
dreary desert sand of dead habit.
Where the mind is led forward
by thee into ever-widening
thought and action;
into that heaven of freedom,
my Father ,
let my country awake”
Tagore

    THASIL, AN EXCELLENT PIECE BUT ALL IN VAIN. AS OF NOW I LEARN THAT RANIL HAS PULLED OUT FROM THE PEOPLES SHOW OF DEFIANCE PLANNED FOR TODAY AGAINST THIS CORRUPT REGIME. WHAT WAS SUSPECTED HAS NOW BEEN CONFIRMED ABOUT THIS SPINELESS, MISERABLE MAN RANIL. NEVERTHELESS TODAYS STRIKE SHOULD BE THE BEGINING OF THE ONSLAUGHT AGAINST THE TRIUMVIRATE. IT SHOULD BECOME AN AVALANCHE, A MIGHTY STORM, AND THE PEOPLE WHO SADLY VOTED THIS GOVT IN MUST NOW KICK THEM OUT. IF NOT, THE END OF SL IS NIGH AND YOU AND I AND THE NEXT DOOR MAN WILL BE NO MORE.

      you madam are entitled to your opinion of anyone and i will defend with my life your right to express it.
      from my stand point ranil is the only leader who can deliver us from this evil.even if everything you say is true the one thing your have to agree is that ranil is not corrupt and moreover he is not corruptible and the need of the hour is such a person.thank once again

        Dear Tasil;

        “the one thing your have to agree is that ranil is not corrupt and moreover he is not corruptible”.

        May Be you are correct;

        Not Corrupt is NOT ENOUGH, But We want a Leader with Backbone too.
        Not an imitator or clown.

          my dear friend each and every one of us have our preferences.

          for me it is weak honesty as against brute strength dishonesty,but remember whatever we chose we have to live with and there is no room for regret.

          I strongly believe we need an opposition leader withy a back bone.

          Where was Ranil when his good friend Gen.Sarath Fonseka was arrested and Impressioned. How many days Ranil went to see him in Prison.

          Where was Ranil when CJ madam Shirani Bandaranayke was impeached.

          Where was Ranil when Lasantha Wickrematunge was murdered.

          Where was Ranil when Prageeth Ekneligoda disappeared.

          Ranil May be an Honest person, but that alone does not make him a hero.

          Ranil is more into Protecting his Parliament club itself and his Parliament seat more than Voicing for peoples rights.We saw it at the CJ’s trial.

          Whatever Rajapakses bills that are brought to parliament floor, the Govt. is winning due to their two third Majority and President Knows about it.

          Therefore how much ever the opposition or Ranil shout at the Parliament against them, due to Govt. 2/3 rd Pin Padi Pinguttarayas and Rajapakse Parliament Coolies who raise their hands for a free soup bone goes and approve them..

          Therefore the real heroes are the ones who fight for people they represent, who are been suppressed, manupulated, robbed and cheated by the corrupt state. They are the only ones who make Peoples voices herd and stop corruption.

          Only after peoples protest that Rajapakses stopped the 2 Billion rupee CHOGM over 100 Rolls Royce, BMW,Luxury SUV’s and Buses duty free import deal.

          For me these uneducated muts only deserve to go in “Bakki Karatte”…..Bullock carts and nothing else.

          As for me, it is Ranil and only due to Ranil’s spineless behaviour that made over 40 UNPers to cross over to Govt. side, that made President Rajapakse to steal, hoodwink, fool and humiliate both Opposition Parliament members and us citizen. Steal and rob all elections, commissions, impeach of CJ Shirani and a whole lot of others that are due to Ranil’s negligence to represent as Peoples Rep.

          Ranil Just made a public show off by visiting Azad Sally at the hospital and uniting with JVP during the Electricity price hike.

          It was only the JVPers with K.D.Lalkantha and Vasantha Samarasinghe that made the best and well planned protest that made President think twice before getting electric shock.

          My suggestion is if Ranil wants to survive in Sri Lanka Political arena, he should be much more herd, Brave, strong, honest and a Fealress leader.

          It’s time to get rid of Double acting, double tongue, uneducated and corrupt Political Jokers.

    The historical fact is that both the UNP and the SLFP patronise their party TUs only to a limited extent so that they will not be militant and would cause problems when they form their Govt. They would keep their TUs to function only within the party’s political agenda. When in power they usually throw some crumbs to the TU leaders so that they will keep the membership under control. So any full commitment by UNP and SLFP TUs to a common struggle of the workers is always doubtful going by past history. So the other TUs should watch out the behaviour of UNP TUs in the current situation.

      If what you say is true, it is such a shame that this ruthless regime has mismanaged, abused their powers, been incompetent, and is taking the Sri Lankan people for a good ride. They run this country like it belongs to the entire family, with no shame for the nepotism and corruption, that prevails.

      They are running this country into the ground, and it will be poor people who will have to pay the price.
      What a disgusting state of affairs.

      Here is where the Mara Managers can get some HELP in Managing.

      Maras are doing self managing and self destructing themselves, the people and the country. The loans on projects that will not pay, needs to be paid back from income from elsewhere, like increasing rhe electricity prices, food prices and fuel prices.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Management_consulting

      Management consulting is the practice of helping organizations to improve their performance, primarily through the analysis of existing organizational problems and development of plans for improvement. Organizations may draw upon the services of management consultants for a number of reasons, including gaining external (and presumably objective) advice and access to the consultants’ specialised expertise.
      As a result of their exposure to and relationships with numerous organizations, consulting firms are also said to be aware of industry “best practices”, although the transferability of such practices from one organization to another may be limited by the specific nature of situation under consideration.

      Consultancies may also provide organizational change management assistance, development of coaching skills, technology implementation, strategy development, or operational improvement services. Management consultants often bring their own proprietary methodologies or frameworks to guide the identification of problems, and to serve as the basis for recommendations for more effective or efficient ways of performing work tasks.

        Leela Girl and Others back for what reason?

        It is called trading – and the credits and debits arr settled using the medium of exchange, aka money.

        So, if

        X= True Economic Value of the Project
        R = is the True economic Return
        Rc= Cost of Capital and other project costs included

        If R > Rc, it is an economically viable project

        NOW, to that add, R_bribe, and it depends on the greed.

        Then Cost of Project R+ R_bribe < Rc,

        Many of the projects are like that, and the consumers and tax payers end uP paying for it, unless IT IT IS A GRANT OR GIFT.

        DeJa Vu ….

          “NOW, to that add, R_bribe, and it depends on the greed.”

          My elders tell me R_bribe is known as Rent Seeking activity in economic parlance, or Commission in business euphemism for facilitating the whole project.

          You know very well how they block projects, sort of erecting barriers to entry then facilitate it, monopoly brings rich reward.
