By Malinda Seneviratne –
Duminda Silva, MP (UPFA) is something else. First he was accused of murdering ex-UPFA MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra. He was supposed to have sustained severe gunshot injuries and was said to have been fighting for his life while the funeral rites were being administered on Premachandra. Then he was whisked out of the country, purportedly for treatment. Then he returned – straight to hospital. Stories were circulated to the effect that he was recovering – slowly. Doctors and lawyers stood for him, trotting out reasons that warranted continued hospitalization. Then he was granted bail. Was this for lack of evidence to warrant continued ‘incarceration’ (note quotation marks)? Did the AG’s Department solicit further information from the Police? We don’t know. He walks out of hospital, in the best of health. He brags about returning to politics and claims he is fullyy recovered. There are no scars to be seen. A miracle in plastic surgery, perhaps? He is laughing and that is no crime. If he is innocent, then he could laugh even louder. But if there is something called circumstantial evidence, then either the circumstances or the evidence appear to be fishy (putting it mildly here) with respect to health and healing. If justice should be done AND seem to be done, then much is being revealed. Duminda Silva seems to be having the last laugh (for now) but will he laugh the longest and the loudest? But time is long and so too the arm of the law.

Where?

@Native Vedda
…in Sri RajaPakistan, the long arm of the law has been rendered redundant by the Rajapaksas…but in Buddhism there is such a thing called “ditta dhamma vedaniya karma.” People like SWRD,Premadasa, Wijeweera and Prabahakaran (to name just a few) learnt about karma the hard way. One day Duminda, Mervin, Karuna, KP, Pillayan, the Rajapaksas’ and scores of others will also learn. When that happens it will be the long suffering people of this country who will be laughing from their backsides. :)

Malinda
Who is behind this pathetic state of affairs? Do you have any clues? By any chance.
Duminda did not fool the nation alone. Duminda alone did not treat Sri Lankans as idiots. Duminda alone did not make a mockery of the judiciary.
“But time is long and so too the arm of the law.” Ha..ha!
Will that apply to God Father(s) of Duminda Silva. The scumbag.
Just wondering.
/
Sama / April 30, 2013
Malinda is naive or pretends to be naive ? Cant he bring any good article about the health history of Duminda instead ? From the day of the killing incident to his discharge from the hospital yesterday ?
Why was that lanken media louded that Duminda would be in danger if he would not get his treatment as had been in S pore until very recently ?
As if Malinda failed to observe all these sets of happenings related to the killing inicident ? Why does Malinda behave in this way as if he is born today ?
As if Duminda is a great politician that masses of the country would respect him.

You Idiot
This happens everywhere in the world. DS is just a suspect of an on going case and you can not deny his rights till he is convicted in a court. Further there are many eye witnesses to prove that he was the first to shot at and when it is proved he will be acquitted. Just wait and see without fooling around.
/
Ben Hurling / May 1, 2013
Costa
You forgot to mention.
Bharatha had inserted a whopping 42 fatal bullets into his own body himself. Eyewitness account.
Just to make DS look like a scumbag.
The whole thing is a conspiracy against DS and even Rajapassa clan.
PS: King should clear DS right now. Rather than waiting for a time consuming judicial process. Sri Lanka needs DS.
/
sama / May 1, 2013
This happens EVERYWHERE bunch of thieves are in power :) You ilk will take some more time to get this all. DS was the key suspect in this murder trial. Time will show all who respect the rule of law – how deep our nation has been fallen today. Wait and see – fooling is not a life long game.

Boycot? Not a good enough reaction.
“The lawyer” unethical Warnakulasuriya and the medic who gave the health certificate should be sent to jail.
They made a mockery out of Sri Lanka’s judiciary.
They fooled the Sri Lankan nation. Nothing less than jail will do.
/

Ben, so how can they further argue that we have independent institutions to investigate the war crimes – allegations within the country ?
All inclu. doctors, police, lawylers will have to reveal the truth.
How can the authorities of the state will counter in coming days in terms of war crime allegations ?
/
justice / April 30, 2013
The police botched the crime scene investigation purposely to favour Duminda Silva.Premachandra’s postmortem report is kept secret. His daughter who saw his body soon after the shooting said that he had 42 bullet wounds, but, the police produced only one gun, after amonth,to court and wanted ‘permission’ to lift fingerprints off it,after handling it for one month!
The magistrate allowed it!
This can happen only in sri lanka.
None at the scene of the shoot-out were tested for gunpowder residues on hands & forearms to identify those who had discharged firearms.
There were many police officers in vehicles of both factions but they vanished soon after!
Their statements were not recorded.
The doctors who certified that he had injuries which were severe, almost necessarily fatal should explain the miraculus recovery.
The trial will not happen as all witnesses are reported to have vahnished, and the chief witness was reported to have reversed his testimony.
/
Ben Hurling / April 30, 2013
Recovery was a miracle.
Cos’ Nawaloka is not a hospital anymore.
It is now called “Nawaloka Devale”.
By changing Bharatha’s driver Bole’s testimony, DS went from being the main suspect/scumbag to “VICTIM”.
Cheers!
PS: Possible Bhartha shot himself.

I beg to differ.
It was Rambo, Trinco Sampandan who shot Bharatha and Duminda both at point blank distance whilst addressing the parliament with the support of LTTE rump, NGOs, Tamil diaspora, traitors to the mother land, ……. IC providing cover,…..

Native Vedda,
On what kind of evidence do you build your conclusion on this issue?
Share with us. I will be the first to accept, if your version seems more truthful.
At this stage, based on what I have read in DIG Gunewardena’s memoirs, who was in Jaffna at that time and on that ngiht, I believe Jaffna Library was burned by the LTTE. And blamed it on Sinhala racism. Scoring massive propaganda victory for the LTTE to this day.
Over to you my native friend!
/
Native Vedda / April 30, 2013
Ben Hurling
You don’t need to prove yourself a irredeemable stupid all the time.
One simple question:
Why didn’t the stupid Ralahami policeman disclose whatever information he would have had soon after the library was destroyed.
The timely information could have been used to assuage Tamil anger and turned it on LTTE.
The thirty years of destruction could have been avoided or prevented.

Despite being a Vedda, you know your stuff really well.
And you know it.
PS: So, who burned the Jaffna library? What’s your version? Apart from blasting retired DIG Gunawardena for keeping silent for 30 years. Don’t let us down.
/
Native Vedda / May 1, 2013
Ben Hurling:
“So, who burned the Jaffna library?”
Dr Rajasingham Narendran is on the case. A few months ago I passed him a tip in this forum, where to start his investigation. I hope he is still on the trail. Or is he? He assured me he was not indulging in Kandyan hospitality. I trust him.
Many of my Sinhalese friends believe the destruction of the library was carried out by professional thugs belonging to a leading party led by two ministers.
On my rare visits to the the North I found 99.9999999999999999% people were stupid just as their brethren in the South.
The only exception was the few who had the vision to build this magnificent library stocked with rare books and ola manuscripts.
Every Sinhala/Buddhist must take responsibility for the attack on such institutions and books for keeping a deafening silence.
Are you actively investigating the case?
Aren’t you ashamed of yourself and your country?
MR and his clan are the continuation of the old brutal state and they didn’t start cultural destruction but only the transient guardian at present.

This incident really defined Rajapakshas.
Duminda’s brother who owns a TV station and
radio station, is the business partner of
defence secretary Gotabaya. Biggest chunk
of the froudulant NSB deal’s profits went to
Duminda’s brother( in the tune of quarter billion
ruppees belong to poor Srilankans). It was
quite obvious where this case was heading
when defence secretary’s official spokesperson
made an announcement, very next day after
Baratha’s funeral saying that Duminda
was not a suspect in this case. To successfulliy
prosecute any crime, Police has to do
impartial and effective inquiry. In this
case it was done under the close watch(according
to the police) and directions of the defence
secretary.

The biggest laugh is our once highly respected legal system. Here was a senior lawyer lying to Court DS’s physical condition is so bad unless he was released to the kindly and safe hands of his family, his life itself can be in danger. Lawyers, in training and while taking their oaths, pledge to uphold the integrity of the law and the justice system. This ????? The unsuspecting Court took that plea into consideration and released the “physically and mentally shattered” patient. He is not carried into an ambulance but the man virtually sprints outside to a waiting Welcome Party and tells the country his first Port of Call will be, where else? but Temple Trees – where this deviyo goes to prostrate before another deviyo.
What a basket case we have become. For all we know it was nothing more than a do-or-die gang fight between two well-known underworld drug-traffickers and distributors to hold their own turf.

I feel bad for young Hirunika. She ought have know the nature of the regime that her father served so faithfully. She fought the good fight yet at the same time climbed onto political stages in support of the UPFA, which is doing all it can to protect Duminda, also her mom is enjoying the perks of a presidential advisor. This story is twisted in a totally south Asian way.
There are no winners here, all lose, unbeknownst to Duminda he is losing the most.

Malinda says – “Then he was whisked out of the country, purportedly for treatment. Then he returned – straight to hospital. Stories were circulated to the effect that he was recovering – slowly. Doctors and lawyers stood for him, trotting out reasons that warranted continued hospitalization. Then he was granted bail.”
Would he enlighten his readers on the following:
1 – Who organized the “whisking out of the country” and all the other questionable actions that has led to him being granted bail on false pretenses, bolstered by the “doctors’ and lawyers’ trotted out excuses'” ?
2 – What happened to his earlier charges of raping a minor?
For a ‘journalist’ to provide information, selectively omitting crucial aspects of the ‘story’ to suit his/her purposes, tells the tale of a fraud. Enough of this ‘neither here nor there’ crap which has become par for the course with Malinda.

You must have a weird sense of humour to be saying,” But time is long and so too the arm of the law.” You are right about the first part but the long arm of the law in Sri Lanka clearly does not extend to the likes of Duminda.
I don’t know about who will have the last laugh but while the administration allows this sort of farce to continue it cannot surely complain when Western countries point an accusing finger. You keep providing the ‘international community’ more and more examples like this and then complain that there is an international conspiracy against Sri Lanka. It’s pathetic.

Commentators on these columns should attempt to understand the changes in value systems that Sri Lanka has undergone in the past few decades.
They must see how their own attitudes, dispositions and sense of ethical behaviour have been subjected to numerous influences.
Then they will better understand why influential suspects of crime need to be viewed accordingly.
