Gota’s man and Gota
“Duminda Silva is not my man, he is Gota’s man” President Mahinda Rajapkasa said to both Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and former Prime Minister and senior Minister Rathnasiri Wickkramanayake.
Informed sources told the Colombo Telegraph that, three months ago, Bharatha had complained to the President that Duminda Silva had given a contract to underworld thugs to murder him. President Rajapaksa had subsequently ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the alleged murder plot. Two underworld gangsters who were in police custody at that time had given statements to the CID confirming the murder plot. Bharatha Lakshman had secured a copy of this CID investigation report and informed Rathanasiri Wickramanayke, Minister Susil Premajayantha, Alavi Moulana, the Governor of the Western Province, Minister John Senavirathne and some other senior Sri Lanka Freedom Party members about the CID findings.
The Colombo Telegraph has learnt from several sources within the ruling party that Rathnasiri Wickkramanayake and Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra had met and urged the President to remove Duminda Silva from Kolonnawa and arrest the underworld gangs operating under Duminda three month ago. It was then that the President had stated, “Duminda Silva is not my man, he is Gota’s man”

Dumina got Bhratha’s supporters arrested by police and tried to implicate Bharatha. Two of his supporters were in police custody for this purpose. Bharatha was helpless at that time and went abroad hiding because he would have been killed otherwise.

However there is covert polarization within the government. One side lacks leadership and hence the reason they are still hibernating. a major government strategy is to destroy, buy (Many including RANIL), threaten or blackmail potential leaders or keep them behind bars till eternity. The thugs and the powerful politicians help each other. Why save guys caught red handed with drugs, or try to bring new laws to reduce the consent for sex down to 13 years when it is 16 now??
