A song released on the occasions of the first anniversary of President Maithripala Sirisena assuming office seeks to promote him as some kind of modern-day reincarnation of King Parakramabahu the Great.
The song, perhaps commissioned by the President or his media team, is a throw-back to the reign of his predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa who was likened to King Dutugemunu, in song and by association film. Ironically, the lyrics condemn sycophants and hosanna-singing even though the entire production is but a celebration of sycophancy.
Sirisena, in his election campaign, strongly condemned meaningless and expensive self-promotion by Rajapaksa, but has in the past 12 months indulged heavily in the same practice.
A song praising Mahinda Rajapaksa immediately after the defeat of the LTTE claimed that the then president was a blessing to the nation and indeed consecrated by the gods themselves. In this music video, the same sentiments are expressed, except that the visuals actually have astral entities literally descending from the heavens to shower blessings on King Parakramabahu. The attempt to equate Sirisena with this king who ruled from the president’s ‘home town’ Polonnaruwa is unmistakable.
Sirisena’s ‘royal’ ambitions seem to mimic those of his predecessor, with two major differences. Whereas Rajapaksa’s fascination was with Anuradhapura and Dutugemunu, Sirisena’s fixation is with Polonnaruwa and Parakramabahu. Also, whereas Rajapaksa’s ‘royal’ flirtation took off only after 4 years into his term, Sirisena’s has kicked off one year after assuming office.
Upadte – In the face of growing public criticism the video of the President Sirisena’s Official Song for 2016, has been removed without any reason being offered. Since President Sirisena is featured in the set in all likelihood he not only commissioned the production but also would have given the green light for its broadcast.

Parākramabāhu I (Pali Mahā Parākaramabāhu 1123–1186) was king of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa from 1153-86. He succeeded his uncle Kitti as king of Dakkhinadesa around 1140 and over the next decade improved both Dakkhinadesa’s infrastructure and military. Following a protracted civil war, he secured power over the entire island around 1153 and remained in this position until his death in 1186. During Parākramabāhu’s reign, he launched a punitive campaign against the kings of Burma, aided the Pandyan dynasty against the Chola dynasty in southern India and maintained extensive trade relations with China and countries in the Middle East. Within the island, he consecrated religious monuments, built hospitals, social welfare units, canals and large reservoirs, such as the Sea of Parakrama.

The PANDIYAS: (Tamil: Pandiyar)
The PANDIYAS were one of the three ancient TAMIL KINGDOMS (Chola and Chera being the other two) who ruled the Tamil country until end of the 15th century. They initially ruled from Korkai, a sea port on the southern most tip of the Indian peninsula, and in later times moved to Madurai.
The early Pandyan dynasty of the Sangam Tamil literature went into obscurity during the invasion of the Kalabhras. The dynasty revived under Kadungon in the early 6th century, pushed the Kalabhras out of the Tamil country and ruled from Madurai. They again went into decline with the rise of the Cholas in the 9th century and were in constant conflict with them. The Pandyas allied themselves with the Sinhalese and the Cheras in harassing the Chola empire until they found an opportunity for reviving their fortunes during the late 13th century.
It shows the Tamil PANDIYA Prince was the GRAND FATHER of Parakrmavahu the Great. (Chula Vamsa refers him as the Pandiya Prince.)
PARAKRAMAVAHU`S QUEEN LEELAWATHI:
Queen Leelawathi, was the second woman in Sri Lankan history to rule as sovereign in her own right. Lilavati rose to prominence as wife of Parakramabahu the Great, king of Polonnaruwa. Being of royal descent herself she then ruled as sole monarch on three different occasions in the near-anarchy following Parakramabahu`s death, with the backing of various generals. The primary source for her life is the Culavamsa.
Lilavati clearly belonged to the old SINHALA-PANDYAN(TAMIL) house of Vijayabahu, whilst Nissanka Malla, Vikramabahu, Chodaganga, Queen Kalyanavathi and Dhammasoka appear to represent a separate, Kalingan house.
Parakramabahu I thus coming of TAMIL LINEAGE, easily ingratiated himself to the Tamils of Jaffna.

We know 13A has area dispute settled; 13A has North-East Unity settled; 13A has policing settled; for a normal decent devolvement, the foreign finance was one missing there. But there was no implementation clause and North-East never enjoyed the 13A for whom it was brought as a solution. Now the Old King is taking a big bite on that and returning to XXXX-Chelva pacts.
The IC or the 32 nations supported the war. A good number of them honestly thought LTTE was an impediment to a solution for Tamils. Tamils in the North-East, backed by Diaspora Tamils, asked for genocide inquiry. Then, Ambassador Blake put pressure on TNA and forced it to go against its constitution and made to say it wants solution first, investigation only after that. The Negotiation with the Old Royals was canceled in January 2012 by the Royal government. But after that seeing the real nature of Lankawe, which is the left hand- right hand- left hand- right hand until both hands’ contains becomes nothing, Blake set the motion to move towards investigation.
Investigation was showing pretty good progress as long as the IC was focused on it. But in 2015, Sec. Kerry took it from UN and handed it over to New Royals, whom, he played a role to bring in power. So, it was decided in UNHRC, against its recommendations, no IC judges and lawyers but, only foreign judges and lawyers. Then it was said it is only Sri Lankans migrated to foreign lands. Then even that was not coming forth. Not just that any of the other recommendation in the OISL report was carried out. Simply, the Paranagama Commission, which is prime source for spying on the Tamils who complain about missing their relatives, was not wounded up. Once again the Blake time’s, “solution for Tamils” was promoted. From 2009, TNA has been begging for the Right Hand food, that was not coming, then left hand. That was not coming….. left, right, left, right. Nothing has come Forth. Because of foolishly begging for ever, now the existence of TNA is under threat. Sampanthar has come to know the constitutional change is not going anywhere. He has said that he is thinking to talk again. But that is not going to achieve anything.
New Royal government has postponed the local government election which is long overdue from Old Royals’ time. This as a hedge to prevent anything forced to happen in the constitutional change that the Tamils would like. As long as the election is immediately after the change of consitution, none of the politicians or the international community will act to hurt the current government. TNA was ineffective in stopping the postponing of the election. Now the net result is, not right hand and no left hand. That is, no investigation or Solution to the problem. UNHRC was talking mainly about the Investigation as the prime initiation. Royal Government by its’ repeated Aappa bribe to Sec. Kerry, has successfully pushed forward the Constitutional Change first. Now Tamils have to wait until another change take place in the international politics. But no none knows what is going to happen to TNA before that.

One of the things that the general public was made to understand that the inauguration of President Sirisena only costed Rs. 6,000/= . Even Pope Francis is made to believe that President Sirisena is one who believes in simplicity as opposed to wasteful self glorification. But with 1 year gone, what is his record? The the first anniversary celebrations itself is an utter waste from those standards. The self glorification songs, who gets it composed, pay by the bushel to the artists? It is the civil servant inside.
This president may not read any of the postings in Colombo Telegraph as he is basically Sinhala speaking. But if he is reading them he should know the level and esteem he had at the of his election now fallen so low. Who is responsible for leading him in the garden path? Naturally the courtiers inside the Palace. Who are they in the modern context? The civil servant inside.
President Sirisena said that he would spending most of his time in Polonnaruwa. IS HE? And if so what is the earthly reason to have a new Presidential Palace in Paget Road done up at a huge cost and still wanting to have money for further glorification? Obviously the administrators inside would have impressed upon him to be in Colombo most of the time otherwise the “Official work” cannot be attended to. The administrators will not want to recognize the power of technology to work from a distance. Even if there are competent technical people they would want them chased out and replaced by the mediocre. The command of the English Language is a crime.
It is time that politicians must ponder why governments of the day fall. It is primarily because their personal agenda is met at the expense of the public.Who is ultimately responsible for that state of affairs? The Administrators inside.
