They should also be buddist spectators. That alone shows how our people react intuitively.. why not they even try to help the poor monk there saving him life ?

“According to the Sunday Times, investigations by Media Ministry has revealed that the monk had, before setting himself on fire told the local correspondent of a State media institution of his plans to do so. The correspondent had videoed the entire event. The material had been aired both in State run and private television networks.”

This is Paparazzi at its Worst with the concurrence of the Buddhist Monk. Is this the Buddhism the Lord Buddha taught?

      1. The Monk was going to commit Suicide.

      2. The correspondent knew it. He took undue advantage of that.

      3. The question what is the link between this correspondent and the state?

      4. We know the State, the Govt, of Sri Lanka lies blatantly.

There is media department headed by people who lies.

There is the Ceylon Daily news and others that lie, and they have their own Shill correspondents and writers.

Then there are many news sites that are controlled or with their shills running them, that will not allow for any critical comments against the sate.

This is pathetic. This is Mara morals. This is NOT Buddhism.

Welcome to the Dhamma Island- Dhamma Deepaya.
The Yakkas, Nagas and Veddahs have better morals, and they did not need the Imported Buddhism.
Lanka should have remained Hindu like Bali Island, Indonesia, and peaceful, free of Monk Mahanama Myths,

Today a friend of mine is giving a Dana- She is cooking Dallo, prawns ++. Sometimes in the past she has give chicken too. Prawns are more expensive than chicken. Do you think a priest should have these delicacies. Should the priests advice the Dana providers to give simple food even the Dana givers want to give this type of food. Every house provides the best of food for the priests. In the rural areas where my origin lies, the poor ones gives the best dana even depriving their children. Someone has to think about these things and bring moderation.

            Malli,

No wonder Buddhist clergy looks well fed and well taken care of.

My next door neighbour wanted to give Morning ‘Heel Bath” dana to the temple and he was told to wait six months to get his turn. This is true in Ratmalana. Also now most of the Danas are special catered food which are more tasty and appealing.

I don’t want to write here as to what another Clergy said to bring when asked what to bring for Dana.My friends won’t tell lies. But his requests were emberrasing.

You know they prepare the best food for Dana even going beyond their means to give the best. That’s why the Buddhist Priests looks more plum and fresh and more handsome than the average citizen. Also now almost every senior clergy has his own chaufer driven SUV’s and super luxury cars.

These makes them prey to young lasses which could easily end up in marriage. My own Logic teacher 40 years ago who was a handsome Buddhist monk (we called him Gamini Fonseka) from Hunupitiya Gangarama temple during our AL Logic exam course, suddenly vanished from the Temple and we were told that he eloped with a Girl.
I think There’s a 50%(fifty percent) defection of Clergy from the Sasana.
After giving them everything what they asked for, if they are still not satisfied, I don’t know what else to say.

      1. LET HINDUS TO EAT CHICKEN AND MUTTON
      2. LET MUSLIMS TO EAT CHICKEN, MUTTON AND BEEF.
      3. LET CHRISTIAN TO EAT CHICKEN, MUTTON, PORK AND BEEF
      4. LET BUDHISTS TO EAT CHICKEN, MUTTON AND PORK
      5. LET BUDIHIST MONKS TO EAT ONLY CHICKEN
OR ELES PROHIBIT EATING ALL ANIMAL FLESH
THIS IS NO JOKE. DONT LET HUMAN LIFE TO SACRIFIES FOR ANIMAL.

    May he attain Nirvana.

He gave his life, this life, for his beliefs, for the sake of fellow beings, called animals being slaughtered on a commercial scale.

    http://www.urbandharma.org/udharma5/viewdeath.html

In the teaching of the Buddha, all of us will pass away eventually as a part in the natural process of birth, old-age and death and that we should always keep in mind the impermanence of life. The life that we all cherish and wish to hold on.

To Buddhism, however, death is not the end of life, it is merely the end of the body we inhabit in this life, but our spirit will still remain and seek out through the need of attachment, attachment to a new body and new life. Where they will be born is a result of the past and the accumulation of positive and negative action, and the resultant karma (cause and effect) is a result of ones past actions.

        Native Vedda and Observer,

With new information about the state media and Paperazzi correspondent being part of this incident, now I am of opinion, (even though I may be incorrect upon further research), that

        there is:

        1. No Nibbana (The Pali version)

2.. No Nirvana ( The Sanksrit Version)

        http://www.buddhanet.net/nutshell10.htm

The Pali word Nibbana is formed of Ni and Vana. Ni is a negative particle and vana means lusting or craving. “It is called Nibbana, in that it is a departure from the craving which is called vana, lusting.” Literally, Nibbana means non-attachment.

Nibbana is not situated in any place nor is it a sort of heaven where a transcendental ego resides. It is a state which is dependent upon this body itself. It is an attainment (dhamma) which is within the reach of all. Nibbana is a supramundane state attainable even in this present life. Buddhism does not state that this ultimate goal could be reached only in a life beyond. Here lies the chief difference between the Buddhist conception of Nibbana and the non-Buddhist conception of an eternal heaven attainable only after death or a union with a God or Divine Essence in an after-life. When Nibbana is realized in this life with the body remaining, it is called sopadisesa nibbana-dhatu. When an arahat attains parinibbana, after the dissolution of his body, without any remainder of physical existence it is called anupadisesa nibbana-dhatu.

In the words of Sir Edwin Arnold:

“If any teach Nirvana is to cease
        Say unto such they lie.
If any teach Nirvana is to live
        Say unto such they err.”

From a metaphysical standpoint Nibbana is deliverance from suffering. From a psychological standpoint Nibbana is the eradication of egoism. From an ethical standpoint Nibbana is the destruction of lust, hatred and ignorance.

        • 0
          0

Yes, exactly that is what is meant by Nibbana, non-attachment. Attachment to a cause will make him craving for being born again and again in this and the other world alternatively. Why waste your words for wishing that he will attain Nibbana?

    • 0
      0

He will not attain Nibbana as long as he holds these delusions in his head.
According to the Buddha, as cononised in the Anguttara Nikaya, one to attain Nibbana should be free from Lobha (Greed), Dosha (Hatred) and Moha (Delusion) or their opposites, Nirlobha (Generosity), Prema (Love) and Knowledge. One should follow, according to the teachings, Alobha (neither lobha nor nirlobha),adosha (neither hatred nor love)and amoha (neither delusion no knowledge). He is none of these as he is guided by moha, fear and revenge (taking his life to frighten others).
So, let everyone desirous of attaining Nibbana follow the path shown by the Master.
The Buddhist literature is full of examples where people like him will end up after leaving this world. Pray that he will not suffer there to an extreme extent as he did in the last few hours of living in this world.

True, he had not understood or practiced Buddhism, nor did he leave any legacy to Buddhist followers, very bad example, should be condemned by all.

Buddhists priests normally won’t even perform religious rites for anyone who committed suicide. Just wait & see what Buddhist priests do & say in this man’s funeral.

“Buddhists priests normally won’t even perform religious rites for anyone who committed suicide.” ??

I’m sorry John, i never neither seen nor heard of such thing, and i have seen to the contrary. While we all question whether the monk used his best judgement, when it comes to educating and getting the message across on his chosen matter; when you make such prejudice comments, it just make us all well aware of your agenda only!!

        Observer,

        1. Yes. He will not attain the Pali Nibbana or the Sanskrit Nirvana.

        2. He is a member of Sinhala Ravaya, a Racist Organization.

        3. Lord Buddha and Buddhism has nothing to do with Racism

        4. Racists are using Buddhism to advance their racist agenda.

        5. This is a political act, not a religious act.

He is none of these as he is guided by moha, fear and revenge (taking his life to frighten others).

How did you reach this conclusion, in regards to his personal motivations? He is simply protesting injustice in a peaceful way. Tibetan monks have been using self-immolation for decades to protest against Chinese injustice. I would also point out that suicide is not forbidden in Buddhism.

        • 0
          0

Lester, look at the broad picture. He is full of Moha because he protests against the slaughter of only cattle and not the killing of human beings, fish, chicken, etc for the benefit of one party or another.
Further, if he is vaccinated against polio in the childhood, he would have caused the death of millions of monkeys who have sacrificed their lives to make that vaccination.
As a Buddhist priest, he should have wisdom to understand this big picture which the Buddha understood well and therefore did not accede to Devadaththa’s demand for banning the partaking of meat by Buddhist monks.
When Buddhism is twisted to attain personal goals, it is not necessary for outsiders to come and destroy it. It will implode from inside.

          • 0
            0

Your allegations are rubbish. He had a specific cause and he died for it peacefully. No one else was injured in the process.

Its called suiside lestor, and homicide for all his accomplices who stood there and let him do it

            • 0
              0

Lester, he didn’t die peacefully. Personally, he was in pain till he left this world. But in the process he created fear, anguish, sorrow, hatred, fright and many other forms of positive and negative violence in others. For instance, he has created sorrow and euphoria in you which will not do any good for you because they will prevent you from treading the path to Nirvana as you are now having an attachment which the Buddha called impediments to seeking the truth.
So, committing suicide in public is a frightful experience for others especially for people with sensitive minds. That was exactly the objective of his enterprise that day.

              0

Lester, others are all those who have watched, read, listened or been told of the incident. They include both you and me.
If we are able to see it in its reality as the Buddha has preached with total equanimity but analysing the cause and effect, impermanence and evolution to guide us, then we are free. Otherwise, we too are dragged into it and as long as we live in it either supporting or opposing, we lose the opportunity to attain enlightenment as disciples of that great master.
But if our objective is to be born again and again and suffer in the process, then, of course our choice is to get dragged into it. So, the volition of the person, as the Buddha taught, dominates in deciding our destiny.

              @ Observer:

That is not a satisfactory response. As long as he did not physically harm or steal from anyone, there is no conflict. What do you think of the Tibetan monks who self-immolate?

This monk was Tamil and he followed his conscience.

            What we can do ?

Sad for the death of the monk – but it was a suicide which is not common to buddhist monks in lanka. May well be possible he was not good in health.

            • 0
              0

your comment brings to mind quite a few problems here:

              1. he’s tamil? what? is there some source you’re quoting? i seriously doubt that a tamil monk would join up to the violently anti-minority JHU and Sinhala Raavaya.

              2. you seem to imply that at least under one version of the various types of Buddhism practiced around the world, his actions would be valid. That’s a strange comment coming from a man in a country that claims to have the purest and most original form of buddhism on earth- so much so that mahayana is seen as some kind of plague, being chased out of the country as soon as it is found. Surely to you, the approval of these other, breakaway factions of the faith should be irrelevant?

            • 0
              0

Yes, KP^s questions are valid. Tell us what made you to feel that the immolated was tamil origin ?

Is that just because his appearance is bit darker ?

I suppose he died a coward.

          • 0
            0

Not coward – but he was not at all mentally stable. Most that commit suicide are like that. They cant see beyond their wishes. Anyway, this could have been avoided if his close ones could have a better understanding about the young monk. Any form of extreme reactions are considered NOT as brave acts, but kind of weaknesses. If he stayed live would have helped thousands of people as a monk, but his no longer physical existence cannot help anyone. There were times in the country – youth ones took their lives since both of their parents did not allow their love relationships. But suicidal incidents related to B monks were not heard. Today, all forms of extreme incidents among buddhist monks are on its rise; they vandalize, they commit suicide, they behave violent on broad day light, they assualt others as lay people would do, they do illegal business, they hit and run as Galaboda Ghanasara did ( proved evidence available), they eat fried rice mixed with chicken meat while asking others not to do so, they attack muslims, they cause to create new communal violences. All these to be legally controlled, ministry of buddhist affairs should have laws appropriately.. so long all the rulers ( power men) would stay doing nothing but just trying to abuse only their votes, can bring us further. We the nation are sinking today.. under the guidance of uneducated bunch of thieves led by MR and siblings.

Because he is member of two racist organization , Jatika Hela Urumaya and Sinhala Ravaya.

      The best option is to:

      1. Save a sample of his tissues and DNA. Needs to be done before he is cremated.

      2. Clone another person, turn him into a Bikku in Tibet or Nepal ( Not Racist Sri Lanka or Burma), follow the True Teachings of Lord Buddha.

Then, only the clone will attain Nibbana or Nirvana.

Isn’t it more practical and logical to call all Sinhalese Buddhists to stop eating meat rater than trying to stop people who kill as a service or trade?
You should promote slogans like ; stop eating dead animals , dead fish and half alive eggs …
About 70-80% of Hindus in India do not eat dead animals or dead fish. How many Sinhalese Buddhist do this?

Quran does not teach genetics, what a shame. Sinhalese are more closely related to Indian Bengalis than to Tamils.

An Alu polymorphism analysis of Sinhalese from Colombo by Dr Sarabjit Mastanain in 2007 using Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati (Patel), and Punjabi as parental populations found different proportions of genetic contribution:[5]

A genetic distance analysis by Dr Robet Kirk also concluded that the modern Sinhalese are most closely related to the Bengalis.[3]
This is further substantiated by a VNTR study, which found 82% of Sinhalese genes to originate from Bengali admixture:[4]

D1S80 allele frequency (A popular allele for genetic fingerprinting) is also similar between the Sinhalese and Bengalis, suggesting the two groups are closely related.[7] The Sinhalese also have similar frequencies of the allele MTHFR 677T (13%) to West Bengalis (17%).[8][9]
These findings are compatible with the historical chronicles the Mahavamsa and Dipavamsa. Which describe a Bengali prince (Prince Vijaya) of being an early settler of Sri Lanka and the progenitor of the Sinhalese.

A genetic distance analysis by Dr Robet Kirk also concluded that the modern Sinhalese are most closely related to the Bengalis.[3]

This is further substantiated by a VNTR study, which found 82% of Sinhalese genes to originate from Bengali admixture:

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_studies_on_Sinhalese

Not only do these studies confirm the Aryan origins of Sinhalese, but also proves the validity of Mahavamsa.

Now go back to reading your Islamic holy book, which talks about Jews descending from pigs and illiterate men going to the heavenly paradise of virgins on a magic carpet. :)

Rebirth is too complicated for Abrahamic minds to comprehend. Weak minds desire instant gratification. That is why your leader promised you 72 virgins for the afterlife.

It was mentioned by Daraj Ibn Abi Hatim, that Abu al-Haytham ‘Adullah Ibn Wahb narrated from Abu Sa’id al-Khudhri, who heard the Prophet Muhammad PBUH saying, ‘The smallest reward for the people of Heaven is an abode where there are eighty thousand servants and seventy-two houri, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine and ruby, as wide as the distance from al-Jabiyyah to San’a.

Yes Lester, rebirth is highly complicated. I wonder how a man can become a Pig, then dog, then donkey, then monkey and then agin donkey, monkey… Only Buddha knows this great circle. It is like a bicycle! How can Lester be a donkey, then monkey agin donkey….there is no end for this monkey, donkey race!

As I said, rebirth is too complicated for Abrahamic minds. Just focus on the 72 virgins in Allah’s paradise, as promised by Quran. Osama, Gadhaffi, Saddam, and the rest of the faithful are already there.

Lester, of corse nobody in this world wants to re-born as Monkey, Donkey, pig, bitch….. circle. It is better to have 72 or more vergins in the haven then reborn as a minority in the Buddhist country and getting killed! In one religion , a God has over 16,000 vergins, so what is wrong in Muslims having 72 or vergins in the haven.

You will re-born as a man, a buddhist will kill you but will not eat your body. OR you will reborn as a cattle, again a Buddhist will eat you but not kill you.

If Gota is european, he should have the least capacity to implement amds to the prevailing law of the country- has he even touched it yet ? NO…. – in European countries they would not let that extended to the manner it has been common to lanken issues. He just ignores any issue related to free and fair crime investigations. This he did with Baratha killing, Kelaniya MP killing, Army officer assualt case and several other mostly raised issues in the recent months.

            Lester,

Yes I agree with you on this Bengali Sinhala connection.

With my own experience with them I felt that Sinhalese are closely resemble to Bengalis cum Banngladesh people. I don’t know if most of the Bengalis are Muslims, but their Body structures, features, life style, their food and spices, their talk, their behaviour and their temperement levels are very much closer to us Sinhala people.

I also notice that some Kerala Indians also would have came and settled in our coastal areas. Their lifestyles are resembled to our Western coastal population.

This Indraratne Thera has already brought the first Real Black mark to our Buddha Sasana. His self suicidal act is another Terrorist act. He desecreated the most venerable Dalada Maligawa. Why he selected Dalada Maligawa and not near a Butchery to commit self emulation during the very First day of Vesak. This is Crazy.

Here’s some news I gathered of him from another website.

            lankaenews.com/English/news.php?id=13697

All I could say is you cannot change the Leopard’s spots no matter where you are.

Also I like to know the history, the family back ground, the upbringing, the age he joined Pansala as Samanera, his mentors and the education qualifications of this Indraratne Thero.

If somebody or the CT has any information on these above info and if could publish them will be helpful.

We like to know the back ground of this thero and like to know who Moulded him to do this atrocious act.

              @ Jayantha,

I am not sure what you have against this monk. If you die without harming others, then what? There is no God in Buddhism; at the end of the day, you are responsible for your own actions. I do not think the monk had an ego, either; how many are willing to die for the sake of innocent cattle these days. Some will argue suicide is fundamentally wrong; let us remember, this was a monk. He gave up “normal” life a long time ago, and with it, the normal obligations to family, friends, etc.

              Lester,

If you look at the whole picture, you should understand that the cattle and all other consumable animals are doing a much greater sacrifice to us than this self Immulated Thero .

Cattle are giving heir flesh for human consumption which we should be thankful for whereas self immulation does not bare any purpose other than sending fear Psychosis, hatered, anger and isolation.

Also there are many starving Lions, Tigers, Bears, crocodiles etc, in the Dehiwala Zoo who rely only on meat. I see them as underfed in the Zoo. Go look at them your self.

Read the histories of Native Indians in USA, Canada and Alaska and read what a relationship they had with Buffalos and Bears. Read how they survived harsh winters only by eating Buffalo and bear meat, but still respected each other.

I think only after the Western Commercial and Profit culture that broke down this human animal connection.

              http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHqVdZmpRgI&list=PLVKlTDZpfE-Xj3RvLIvyRc6WRWe-gMipu

God created various animals for various purposes. Read what UN says what type of food that may available in future for human consumption and want us to adjust to those foods from now on.
Yes the way it goes eating meat will be a super luxury when 70% of our children are under nourished and lack daily required Proteins,Fiber, Vitamins and Minerals.

Every day over 100,000 acres of forest, green and cultivable land disappear from earth while population is increasing at 78 million per year.

oh dear oh dear so you can’t understand what i say. i think you have a problem . why don’t you go back to school and attend some english lessons. i am sure that will help you enormously. by the way i write in plain and simple english and avoid jargon. when i say gathabaaaaaa is a sinhala black monkey and you say he looks european. does gothabaaa have white skin, blue eyes and blond hair. he has black skin, kinky hair and brown eyes. therefore he is a black monkey who loves bananas. besides looking like a black monkey he acts like one too. what constitutes an abuse is debateable. besides what you cosider as an abuse may not be the same for me. for eample you think tigers are terrorists and i think they are freedom fighters. they fought the sinhala oppression. they fought the ruthless sinhala terrorists who have been terrorising the tamil population since 1948. tigers are not ruthless terrorists are they habve been made out by the ruthless sinhala terrorists. coming back to the sinhala black bikku, i am glad that he died. i want all of them dead. what are these mahanaai- aks doing apart from warming up their seats. who are they ?. what’s their role in the society apart from creating trouble. “..May he attain Nirvana..”

Ha..ha..ha.. lol! Killing oneself to prevent cattle slaughter!!!! A murderer of one’s own self is not going to attain Nirvana but would pay a visit to hell, for how long I do not really know! And the real story behind the fiasco is an entirely different one, please read enews to know the details! It is the regime, the Balu Sena, Hela Karumaya, Gota and filthy media boutiques who are behind this. The regime set fire to Colombo harbor and simultaneously staged this saffron adventure to deflect the attention of the masses to some unimportant issue but made colossal important! Poor saffron mutt! The bugger will get his rewards from the hell keeper! And the lunatics who were watching this bugger bugger off must be charged with aiding and abetting with and not preventing a murder!

        Taraki,

Hay Gasgemba, you don’t have to teach me what bugger means; if you have any doubts as to who a bugger is look at you in the mirror to dispel any doubts you have!

One of the meanings of bugger is a person who offers his anus [Edited out] The fake reformist buggers like you always avoid the facts as you have done in my previous comment and try to cover up the facts with silly nonsense-like in the previous instance where you have written some kindergarten stuff about rare life which everybody has swallowed loads and loads from kindergarten age! What is missing is your wholesale covering up and turning a rogue blind eye to the facts I have pointed out regarding the self-immolation of the “rogue” monk! This “buggered off” monk is a thalibanized, LTTE Velupillai Pirabaharanized, extremist, violence and ignorance prone, brain-dead and anti-Buddha rascal who tarnished the sacred doctrine preached by Buddha of Indian origin!

For the information of this imbecilic reformist, Buddha’s Teachings have never existed in Sri Lanka in its pristine original meaning and relevance to people. Instead hat is being practiced is a cultic ritualism imposed on the ignorant gullible so called Sinhalese Buddhists by the cunning wheeler dealer monks of Buddhism who have usurped the doctrine of Buddha! Then the monks conspired and connived with the feudal lords, elites, kings and the chosen few of the society and deformed the beautiful and sacred doctrine of Buddha into a cultic ritualistic mutation where various superstitious religious rituals have replaced true religion, body parts of dead religious people are venerated over the true doctrine and essence of religion, corrupt monks assuming the role of sole interpreter-ship of the doctrine and behaving as if without them no one is able to reach Nirvana, even when a Buddhist dies the monks has to visit the carcass and invoke certain strange and odd ritualistic blessings on the dead so that his soul may migrate to a better life-and this whole Buddhist ritualistic exploitation by the monks of the poor ignorant masses goes on the latest Buddhist mania being the Sirasa media rag displaying the pieces of bones of dead pigs or Arhats-no matter and makes no difference what it is-and stupid masses swarming to pay homage and “gather merits”!!! Ha..haa..haaa.. This is the whole point-gather, gather, gather more and more merits so that your next life will be better and in the process no matter if one has to worship my testicles as being the sacred bones of an ancient Arhat!!! So this is the putrid scheme the monks have devised to extract and exploit favours, benefits, free foods, cloths, shelter and even cunt pleasure from women who are prepared to offer their most sacred and secret body parts to these “sons of the Buddha” who are oozing “sacredness” from all over their bodies! What fucking nonsense is this! Buddhism is long dead in Sri Lanka! What is there is a gormandizing herd of saffrons wheeling and dealing Buddha and his teachings! And that is exactly why despots like Rajapakshas have been able to imposter as the guardians of Sinhalese Buddhists!!! But don’t worry, the sufferings and antics of this nation of fuckers would soon be put to rest! The international through India will be invading this “pebble” of Indian Ocean and the minorities who have gray matter in their heads than the Sinhalese Buddhist donkeys would have their own country carved out from the land of the fools who never grabbed the opportunity to live with minorities in peace! What this “bugger” taraki who tries to rival with stars in labeling his empty self with names given to heavenly bodies really does is pouring more and more fuels to the possibility of its happening-a beautiful country but unfortunate infested with donkeys!

We know that Goat was trying to Impression Azath Sally some days ago, but he luckily escaped.

This may be another Govt. conspiracy to take revenge from Muslim and Christian community for voicing against Rajapakse dictatorial rule.
Also by this act they would have thought of Closing down all the Meat stalls followed later by Pork and chicken stalls also.

The same Conspirator business mafia later will monopolise their underground Meat business charging five to ten times more from the customers making huge profits.

This is similar to Govt. Elete Ethenol Kasippu and drug Mafia business Cartel. You shut down your rivals and monopolise the Business making extra ordinary profits. This is how Business Mafia works.

SRI LANKA MAFIOSAS ARE STILL ALIVE AND THIS IS ANOTHER PLOY.

        Taraki,

When you recruit seven old Children (mostly from Poor and lower middle class families who cannot afford to feed and school them, send them to Buddhist temples as Samaneras.

What do these Five and Seven year olds know about Buddhism to select rest oftheir lives as a Buddhist Priest which is mostly against their will.

They miss their Perents love, care and affectionate, their siblings love, friends etc, at a tender age and miss their innocent Playfull days and are kept inside a concrete wall.

This is a crime where no choice or freedom is given to them. That’s why most of them run away after they Graduate.

There’s a (90%) Ninety percent chance that these Samaneras getting sexually abused and Physically and mentally harassed in these Temples.

These are the samaneras when they become Priests have a complete Grudge, enmity, hatered, racism and Jealoursy towards the Society they represent and against those other religions and races.

SINHALA BUDDHIST FANATICAL RACISM BEGINS AT THESE BUDDHIST TEMPLE MADRASAS.

Buddhists believe that birth as a human is extremely rare. This bhikshu ordained in order to train himself towards Enlightenment. There are other ways to protest. Note that the Buddha would not have done something like this himself – and he had much more to protest about in his time. I think this was a tragic waste of a life.

I believe Sinhalese Buddhist society, cow is/was not prominent like in India. Special attention given to killing/eating cows is SL is due to Hindu influence in Buddhist culture in SL. There so many believes in SL which they think as Buddhist but were actually Hindu. Buddhism doesn’t say any difference between cow or chicken who sacrifices her eggs for human well-being .

A cow gives life; it is not difficult to see why some people would venerate it. The milk (Vitamin D) provides substenance for children to grow. The skin (cowhide) provides a valuable source of leather that can be used for clothing. If the cow is eaten, then there is an opportunity to gain a valuable source of protein. Even the cow dung is useful; it can be used as organic manure, or to reinforce the walls of mud huts, or to keep mosquitoes and ants away. Every part of the cow serves some useful purpose.

why are you so insistant on your belief that muslims of sri lanka purely arab dissendents? the last arab great grand father of some of theirs died several generations ago. and they have no problem in admitting that part of them were converts from other religions. and this very fact earns them their right to be part of the constituents of this land.

Yes, that is the point. A camel gives life, a cow gives life. Even if the cow/camel could speak, stupid Abrahamic minds would still not understand. Quran only teaches how to kill infidels and enter the paradise of virgins.

          • 0

now does your campaign also include fishes and shrimps? they don’t seem to give life and vitamin D? or is it like you scratch my back, i scratch yours?

You start with all Abrahamic religions and then jump onto Quran for specifics. Is it because you are supplied only with islamophobia compendiums? I was given to understand quran teaches to kill infidels who transgress and wage war on muslims? are there also male vergins in the paradise you mention? now lets talk about caste systems and slavery being justified by Buddha’s version of karma?

I was given to understand quran teaches to kill infidels who transgress and wage war on muslims?

It is easy to understand why the above statement is incorrect. If there were only Muslims left in the world, there would still not be “peace.” The Sunnis would wage war against the Shiites. That is exactly what is happening in Syria.

are there also male vergins in the paradise you mention?

Islam is nothing more than male chauvinism; it is just a way for men to exert even more control over women. Look at the life of Muhammed. Unsurprisingly, there is nothing for women in the so-called “paradise.”

now lets talk about caste systems and slavery being justified by Buddha’s version of karma?

Buddha never justified caste or slavery.

              1. if either sunni or shiia group is going unjustfully aggressive over an other, then former has essentially violated the God’s commandments and they are ‘rejectors’ (the translation of the term you translate as infidel because of western influence) of God’s authority, thereby necessitating for the other a fight in defense which is allowed in the religion.

              2. so lester, if buddha didn’t justify caste system (it’s clear that he didn’t systematically abolish it for what would later become the ordinary buddhist communities), slavery, oppression etc then the caste system we see in sinhala buddhist society is against the buddhist teachings? if so, then you should focus more on that human injustice than islamophobia.

              thanks.

M Sivanathan, All my Hindu friends in Sri Lanka eat meat, including beef. All my Indian friends including Brahmins eat meat, beef included. Among all my Buddhist friends I know of only one person who is a vegetarian. And do you think this act will make the non-veg eating Hindus and Buddhists become vegetarian ? I do not have sympathy for any person who commits suicide in anyway for any reason, even if it happens in my own family. They are the biggest losers. But it is really worrying to see people endorsing this brutal, illogical, insane act, which is totally against the very religion they represent. This person has set a bad example and sowed a vicious seed in some people’s mind.

        0

Rifkha, you evidently have a very limited circle of Hindu friends in India or Sri Lanka. Very few Hindus eat beef. This explains why the price of beef is so cheap in India and Sri Lanka unlike elsewhere where it is the most expensive meat.

        • 0
          0

          Tamara,

Beef is cheap in India and Sri Lanka because of the liw quality of meat. You cannot get good quality red meat in these countries.

Try having a good steak at London Grill, Cinnamon Grand where they serve imported meat – you can feed a small family for a month for that money.

Majority of my friends are Hindus both from Sri Lanka and India. And they range from Point Pedro to down south in SL and Kashmir to Kanyakuari in India (yes I do have friends from Kashmir too). Except one or two, they all eat meat. And Hindus in SL have no issues about cattle slaughter. And why only cattle? Did Buddha only preach against cattle slaughter?

From all what I have read, it has been his choice, a politically motivated choice backed by several people and groups. I am very convinced it is a well planned act. The people who are gleefully shooting the scene with their cameras, gleefully watching the horrible act as if they are watching a beautiful Kandyan dance performance and people who backed and instigated this act are part of this crime. All this prevent me from sympathizing. I can only feel sorry for his soul.

Leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF) Wimal Weerawansa today requested the President to immediately ban the slaughtering of cattle within the country.

In the wake of a Buddhist monk setting himself on fire yesterday to protest against the slaughter of cattle for meet, the Minister has written to President Mahinda Rajapaksa saying measures should be taken based on that incident.

The Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities further points out that the majority of the country’s Buddhist and Hindu people reject cattle slaughtering with disgust and that only a small group in Sri Lankan society approves of it.

He stated that in India, which has a majority of Hindu devotee, cattle slaughtering has been banned and that during festivals such as Thai Pongal they are kind enough to express gratitude to Cattle, who play an important role in the traditional Indian farmstead.

As such it is greatly disappointing that cattle slaughtering continues to take place in Sri Lanka, a country which boasts an agricultural economic design, says Weerawansa .

He therefore requests the President to take necessary measures to immediately ban cattle slaughtering in Sri Lanka.

This IS JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE WORRIED OF BEING SLAUGHTERED…. NFF AND MANY OF THEM IN THE CURRENT CABINETA ARE CATTLE… THEY ARE FEAR OF BEING KILLED IN THE FUTURE…

Most of the time time, Mervin did that… just ignored the press and the substance of any media statements, in the same time, with state patronage, his was polarised.. that is the nature of the politics that MR (former Rasthiyadu karayo of Beliattha village) added to our system. This common with PC level MPS too. Ministers just ignore what those PC level politicians have been carrying out – then the situation gradually becomes untouchable with the time. It is said that Mervin^s kind of extortions are made legal in Hikkaduwa area today.

Today I read about an Islamic woman in Dagestan who blew herself up, killing two policeman at a checkpoint. She could have tried self-immolation, like this monk… the point would have been made. But no, there is no such thing as peaceful jihad in Islam. Again, this just shows how much more enlightened the Eastern religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, etc.) are, compared to their Abrahamic counterparts Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.

    • 0

Of course Eastern religions are so enlightened! You guys will reborn as monkey, donkey, …. My worry is that one day you will come as a chicken to my dinner table and I will eat you. I do not wants that to happen – a pig becoming a chicken!

Islam only pretend to be Abrahamic religion. Quran has put Muhammad in par with Allah. Quran persistently tell Muslims to emulate the example of Muhammad. And Muhammad spend more time talking against Jews and Christians and unbelievers than Allah. Quran says Allah do not like Munafiqin or kafir or unbelievers. Muhammad asked Muslims not to be friends with them and even slay them. Indeed, a great deal of the Quran is devoted to describing the horrible punishment that awaits those who refuse to become Muslim. Islamic terrorists call themselves Mujahideen, Shahid, or Fedayeen and say they are holy warriors and consider their acts to be a form of Jihad. So, a true Muslim believe he has reserved a place in Allah’s paradise where many virgins are awaiting for them. The Muslim woman that blew herself in Dagestan must be a virgin in heaven now serving Bin Ladden and et al.

        Vhatura and Native Vedda,

Here is proof and the references.

The Tamils were a little smarter. They did not accept Buddhism lock, stock and barrel like the Sinhala Monk Mahanam myths and racism.

Is that the reason why there are hardly any Tamil Buddhists?

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinhalese_people

Studies looking at the origin of the Sinhalese have been contradictory. Older studies suggest a predominantly Sri Lankan Tamil contribution followed by a significant Bengali contribution with no North Western Indian contribution,[47][48] while more modern studies point towards a predominantly Bengali contribution and a minor Tamil and North Western Indian (Gujarati & Punjabi) contribution.[49][50][51] Multiple studies have found no significant genetic difference between the Sinhalese and the three other major ethnic groups in Sri Lanka (Sri Lankan Tamil, Indian Tamil and Sri Lankan Moor).[48][52][53][54][55][56]

The Genographic Project, launched on 13 April 2005 by the National Geographic Society and IBM, is a multi-year genetic anthropology study that aims to map historical human migration patterns by collecting and analyzing DNA samples from hundreds of thousands of people from around the world.[1]

May the venerable monk attain Nibbana!I am in deep sorrow. But he died for a worthwhile cause.

The Buddha said “”Cattle are our friends, just like parents and other relatives, for cultivation depends upon them. They give food, strength, freshness of complexion and happiness. Knowing this, Brahmins of old did not kill cattle “. Sutta nipata, 295-6).

The Muslims will now cry Buddhist chauvanism arguing that the butchers in Sri Lanka are Muslim, that Buddhist animal rights activists first protested against Halal and now will turn their attention to ban cow slaughter, blah blah

As a Buddhist, we will need to teach compassion and ahimsa to the followers of Islam. This is in the interests of global peace. Look at what happened to the poor English soldier who was beheaded by Muslims in broad day light in Woolwich London. And compassion starts with non violence against poor, mute animals who are subject to a barbarity in the name of Halal.

Four of the five bombs detonated in the world today are by Muslim militants. Look at the non stop murders and killing that is happening in the name of Islam in Niger, Mali, Somalia, Egypt, Libya, Syria, southern Thailand, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Chechnya etc. Those who reject the word of Allah are described in the Koran as unbelievers and infidels. In fact, Koran devotes 61% of its space to infidels. Koran 7:176-9 dehumanizes non-Muslims as vile Animals. 4:101 says, unbelievers are unto you open enemies. Koran 8:38-9 says; Non-Muslims are to be fought until religion is only for Allah. Likewise, there are as many as 109 verses in the Koran that call Muslims to fight war with non-believers for the sake of Islamic rule and to recruit new followers. We therefore need to teach the Muslims the Dhamma and compassion – karuna and metta.

In general Buddhists doesn’t like to watch animals being slaughtered. In the West, many who witnessed animal slaughter become vegetarians.

In many Muslim homes in Sri Lanka, however slaughter of animals occurs at home, in front of the children. In many cases, the children hold the legs of the animal in order to immobilize it during slaughter. They just watch slaughtering during Eid al-Adha with a giggle. No wonder, Muslims are not moved by the blood dripping from the animal’s neck and are not frightened by its snorts and struggles. Soon killings become nothing for them.

Not only Buddhists westerners too feel slaughter is barbaric, whereas Moslem view it as proper and commendable when carried out within the proper context. Therefore, slaughtering a Jew, a Christian, Hindu, Buddhist or anyone seen as an enemy is not considered unusual for a Koran believing Muslim. One can read the mindset of Muslim from their comments here. Sinhalas and Tamils better wakeup for the reality!

Hitler was a vegetarian and how many jews did he slaughter- Sorry they were not slaughtered but gassed. There was a sri lankan leader who was responsible for wiping out the JVPs in a horrible fashion, but he was a vegetarian. He goes to the temples. Being a vegetarian does not mean that they would not hesitate to kill a human being. From these I understand that not killing animal doesn’t mean that they will not kill human beings. Some would not kill even a cockroach in the house, but will not voice protests if a human being who is not following an opposing ideology is killed for that reason. Certainly we endorse our protest against animal slaughter( though we may not practice immolation) but we never protested against killing Sinhala and Tamil youths in our past. That is considered Buddhist Jihaad.

Liyanage is correct. Most non-Muslims do not know how halal meat is produced. The animal’s throat is cut, and it is allowed to bleed to death very slowly. This is obviously a painful and barbaric way to die.

      • 0
        0

Your death will be equally painful Leela/Lester – remember the curse of the people you played out !!!

      • 0
        0

Once again, you are ignorant – This is the LEAST painful way to die.

When they slit the throat, the Juggular vein the central nervous system (nerves) connecting the brain to the rest of the body is slit.

As a the nerves are slit, the brain does not get the signals of pain that are transmitted from the rest of the body. Therefore the brain does not sense pain. It is the least painful way to die. That is the whole reason, we are asked to eat meat slaughtered in ONLY this way as opposed to animals being shot, electricuted or hacked to death.

This is the scientific basis of halal slaughter (there is more if you have the time)

        • 0
          0

Rubbish. Halal and Kosher have been scientifically proven to cause great amounts of pain to the animal. When the nerves of the throat are cut, the animal feels severe pain till the very end.

Brain signals have shown that calves do appear to feel pain when slaughtered according to Jewish and Muslim religious law, strengthening the case for adapting the practices to make them more humane.

“I think our work is the best evidence yet that it’s painful,” says Craig Johnson, who led the study at Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand.

The team first cut calves’ throats in a procedure matching that of Jewish and Muslim slaughter methods. They detected a pain signal lasting for up to 2 minutes after the incision. When their throats are cut, calves generally lose consciousness after 10 to 30 seconds, sometimes longer…

          Cut-throat practice

The researchers then showed that the pain originates from cutting throat nerves, not from the loss of blood, suggesting the severed nerves send pain signals until the time of death. Finally, they stunned animals 5 seconds after incision and showed that this makes the pain signal disappear instantly.

          http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17972-animals-feel-the-pain-of-religious-slaughter.html

This is exactly the kind of medieval barbarism which the monk was protesting. He probably did not know the scientific details, but the experimental proof is nevertheless there.

What is the Buddhist view on suicide, especially of a monk?

In this case it was purely a socio-political rather than a personal issue which led to this unfortunate incident.

Is there a difference in perspective with regard to the concept of rebirth in such an instance?

How can this silly monk stop the slaughter of millions of cattle daily for human consumption in the world by comiting suicide, when this has been a practice since humans became herdsman.I don’t eat beef myself, but could the government stop the import of beef for consumption in all eating houses including tourist hotels, Mac Donalds for example and cold stores in this country.this like asking all humans to be vegetarians ,while Homo sapiens has been an omniverous species throughout history. In the natural world sentimentality stops when it comes to survival of the species.

This was a 3,000 year old Jain and Hindu Land

This was only a 2,300 year old Buddhist Land, with Monk Hegemony, still with its Hinduism and Yakka beliefs,

Coming soon. The banning of cattle slaughter in Sri Lanka by December 21st 2013. All meat will be imported from 1st January 2014. A special chamber of commerce for meat importers will be set up to issues “Not Slaughtered in Sri Lanka” certificates to meat importers. Certificate fees will start at LKR 10 million and proceeds will go to you know who.

By December 2014 the slaughter of birds and fish will also be banned in Sri Lanka. Meat importers – though not buddhists themselves – will become ardent supporters of the Buddhist philosophy. Camel meat and Kangaroo meat as well as whale meat, Dolphin meat, Dog and Cat meat and even some horse meat and Rat meat and probably lots of Snake meat as well will be imported and Sri Lanka will become the multi meat capital of the world to which meat eaters will flock to on meat eating tours.

All will celebrate the creative and noble thinking of the great Sri Lankan Sinhala Buddhist “Race” and they will all acknowledge that it is the only race that is better than the Global Rat Race.

First of all let me tell I join all those morners of the unfortunate death of the Ver. Humuduruvo.

I also won’t to explain how correct Hamudurovo was in his decision.
    ———————————————————————-

First and foremost will discuss the concept of buddism which request not to kill animals.

“Panathi Patha Vermany Sikhapadhan Smadhiyani” – which means Never kill an Animal which has life”

Logic – “Creature which has life” – Includes all vegitabals – Any animals ( Modern science proves it )

Question what you have left to eat ?

I know bro – Yeah, the attitude of Buddist towards this is – Whatever it is , it is ( does ) not ( mean )it.

    ———————————————————————

Second how fine it is to say we should not meat ( Whether it is Mutton, Chicken or beef )

Logic – EATING NON-VEGETARIAN FOOD ( will discuss mostly Islamic perspective )

    Question:

Killing an animal is a ruthless act. Why then do you people consume non-vegetarian food?

    Answer:

‘Vegetarianism’ is now a movement the world over. Many even associate it with animal rights. Indeed, a large number of people consider the consumption of meat and other non-vegetarian products to be a violation of animal rights.

Islam and many other riligions enjoins mercy and compassion for all living creatures.
Let us look at various other aspects of this argument.

    1. A Muslim can be a pure vegetarian

A Muslim can be a very good Muslim despite being a pure vegetarian. It is not compulsory for a Muslim to have non-vegetarian food.

    2. Qur’an permits Muslims to have non-vegetarian food

The Qur’an, however permits a Muslim to have non-vegetarian food. The following Qur’anic verses are proof of this fact:

“O ye who believe! Fulfil (all) obligations. Lawful unto you (for food) are all four-footed animals with the exceptions named.” [Al-Qur’an 5:1]

“And cattle He has created for you (men): from them Ye derive warmth, and numerous benefits, And of their (meat) ye eat.” [Al-Qur’an 16:5]

“And in cattle (too) ye have an instructive example: From within their bodies We produce (milk) for you to drink; there are, in them, (besides), numerous (other) benefits for you; and of their (meat) ye eat.” [Al-Qur’an 23:21]

    3. Meat is nutritious and rich in complete protein

Non-vegetarian food is a good source of excellent protein. It contains biologically complete protein i.e. all the 8 essential amino acid that are not synthesized by the body and should be supplied in the diet. Meat also contains iron, vitamin BI and niacin.

4.Humans have Omnivorous set of teeth

If you observe the teeth of herbivorous animals like the cow, goat and sheep, you will find something strikingly similar in all of them. All these animals have a set of flat teeth i.e. suited for herbivorous diet. If you observe the set of teeth of the carnivorous animals like the lion, tiger, or leopard, they all have a set of pointed teeth i.e. suited for a carnivorous diet. If you analyze the set of teeth of humans, you find that they have flat teeth as well as pointed teeth. Thus they have teeth suited for both herbivorous as well as carnivorous food i.e. they are omnivorous. One may ask, if Almighty God wanted humans to have only vegetables, why did He provide us also with pointed teeth? It is logical that He expected us to need and to have both vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food.

    5. Human beings can digest both vege-tarian and non-vegetarian food

The digestive system of herbivorous animals can digest only vegetables. The digestive system of carnivorous animals can digest only meat. But the digestive system of humans can digest both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. If Almighty God wanted us to have only vegetables then why did He give us a digestive system that can digest both vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food?

    6. Hindu scriptures give permission to have non-vegetarian food

    a. There are many Hindus who are strictly vegetarian. They think it is against their religion to consume non-vegetarian food. But the true fact is that the Hindu scriptures permit a person to have meat. The scriptures mention Hindu sages and saints consuming non-vegetarian food.

    b. It is mentioned in Manu Smruti, the law book of Hindus, in chapter 5 verse 30 “The eater who eats the flesh of those to be eaten does nothing bad, even if he does it day after day, for God himself created some to be eaten and some to be eater.”

    c. Again next verse of Manu Smruti, that is, chapter 5 verse 31 says

“Eating meat is right for the sacrifice, this is traditionally known as a rule of the gods.”

    d. Further in Manu Smruti chapter 5 verse 39 and 40 says

“God himself created sacrificial animals for sacrifice, … , therefore killing in a sacrifice is not killing.”

    e. Mahabharata Anushashan Parva chapter 88 narrates the discussion between Dharmaraj Yudhishthira and Pitamah Bhishma about what food one should offer to Pitris (ancestors) during the Shraddha (ceremony of dead) to keep them satisfied. Paragraph reads as follows:

“Yudhishthira said, “0 thou of great puissance, tell me what that object is which, if dedicated to the Pitiris (dead ancestors), become inexhaustible! What Havi, again, (if offered) lasts for all time? What, indeed, is that which (if presented) becomes eternal?”

“Bhishma said, “Listen to me, 0 Yudhishthira, what those Havis are which persons conversant with the rituals of the Shraddha (the ceremony of dead) regard as suitable in view of Shraddha and what the fruits are that attach to each. With sesame seeds and rice and barely and Masha and water and roots and fruits, if given at Shraddhas, the pitris, 0 king, remain gratified for the period of a month. With fishes offered at Shraddhas, the pitris remain gratified for a period of two months. With the mutton they remain gratified for three months and with the hare for four months, with the flesh of the goat for five months, with the bacon (meat of pig) for six months, and with the flesh of birds for seven. With venison obtained from those deer that are called Prishata, they remaingratified for eight months, and with that obtained from the Ruru for nine months, and with the meat of Gavaya for ten months, With the meat of the bufffalo their gratification lasts for eleven months. With beef presented at the Shraddha, their gratification, it is said, lasts for a full year. Payasa mixed with ghee is as much acceptable to the pitris as beef. With the meat of Vadhrinasa (a large bull) the gratification of pitris lasts for twelve years. the flesh of rhinoceros, offered to the pitris on anniversaries of the lunar days on which they died, becomes inexhaustible. The potherb called Kalaska, the petals of kanchana flower, and meat of (red) goat also, thus offered, prove inexhaustible.

So but natural if you want to keep your ancestors satisfied forever, you should serve them the meat of red goat.

    7. Hinduism was influenced by other religions

Though Hindu Scriptures permit its followers to have non-vegetarian food, many

Hindus adopted the vegetarian system because they were influenced by other

    religions like Jainism.

    8. Even plants have life

Certain religions have adopted pure vegetarianism as a dietary law because they are totally against the killing of living creatures. If a person can survive without killing any living creature, I would be the first person to adopt such a way of life. In the past people thought plants were lifeless. Today it is a universal fact that even plants have life. Thus their logic of not killing living creatures is not fulfilled even by being a pure vegetarian.

    9. Even plants can feel pain

They further argue that plants cannot feel pain, therefore killing a plant is a lesser crime as compared to killing an animal. Today science tells us that even plants can feel pain. But the cry of the plant cannot be heard by the human being. This is due to the inability of the human ear to hear sounds that are not in the audible range i.e. 20 Hertz to 20,000 Hertz. Anything below and above this range cannot be heard by a human being. A dog can hear up to 40,000 Hertz. Thus there are silent dog whistles that have a frequency of more than 20,000 Hertz and less than 40,000 Hertz. These whistles are only heard by dogs and not by human beings. The dog recognizes the masters whistle and comes to the master. There was research done by a farmer in U.S.A. who invented an instrument which converted the cry of the plant so that it could be heard by human beings. He was able to realize immediately when the plant itself cried for water. Latest researches show that the plants can even feel happy and sad. It can also cry.

    10. Killing a living creature with two senses less is not a lesser crime

Once a vegetarian argued his case by saying that plants only have two or three senses while the animals have five senses. Therefore killing a plant is a lesser crime than killing an animal. Suppose your brother is born deaf and dumb and has two senses less as compared to other human beings. He becomes mature and someone murders him. Would you ask the judge to give the murderer a lesser punishment because your brother has two senses less? In fact you would say that he has killed a masoom, an innocent person, and the judge should give the murderer a greater punishment.

    In fact the Qur’an says:

“O ye people! Eat of what is on earth, lawful and good” [Al-Qur’an 2:168]

    11. Over population of cattle

If every human being was a vegetarian, it would lead to overpopulation of cattle in the world, since their reproduction and multiplication is very swift. Allah (swt) in His Divine Wisdom knows how to maintain the balance of His creation appropriately. No wonder He has permitted us to have the meat of the cattle.

    12. Cost of meat is reasonable since all aren’t non-vegetarians

I do not mind if some people are pure vegetarians. However they should not condemn non-vegetarians as ruthless. In fact if all Indians become nonvegetarians then the present non-vegetarians would be losers since the prices of meat would rise.

    Question – No question ?

    ———————————————————————
Thirdly – How correct a Hamudurovo’s decision to quite his life ?

Logic – Will a religion ( sorry it is not ) which preaches non-violance and against killing of animals permit a person to quite his life.

Do you know who wrote all those books that you just mentioned? It is exactly people like you who think everything and every being on this earth is for your consumption! No distinction is hard to draw between you and a carnivorous animal!

i get some of your arguments. but i don’t buy that plants have feelings too argument when you use it to justify animal slaughter. although plants exhibit what are transitional forms of consciousness between material objects and fully functional conscious animals, with their sensory motor networks, what we see as pain and suffering and self awareness aren’t quite the same in such primitive systems found in plants, or even today’s robotic systems. there is cooperation in plant systems, but that’s nothing different from an ant colony being able to find the shortest path to the food source from their colony. flocks of birds and schools of fishes exhibit such emergent intelligent behavior, which we can directly attribute to the nature of the differential equations governing the dynamics involved, although animals are technically the same in essence. braitenberg wrote a beautiful book to demonstrate how he could theoretically simulate basic psychological behavioral elements by using combinations of elementary sensory motor connections in his little vehicles and he called what he did as synthetic psychology. one can then argue humans are a sophisticated network of individual cells, with each cell having no idea what it’s contributing towards, and that the whole notion of consciousness is nothing but an apparent phenomenon, just like waves in media, from a deterministic world view or a mechanical viewpoint, but we are talking about pain and suffering from a higher level layer (as in computer program interpretation levels) where we define free will as a meaningful idea, just like photons being one of the elementary constituents of the matter-energy duality.

you could rather say, just because i stopped eating animals, or even if the whole humanity stops doing that, food chains in nature aren’t going to shrink into two nodes, i.e. the effort towards banning animal food is technically pointless. it’s an issue of limitations on morality rather than of a technical topic.

At the moment (70%) Seventy Percent of our Children are Malnutrition. They do not get the daily minimum Calories, Proteins, Minerals and Vitamins.

Also (60%) Sixty percent of Adult population is Under nourished.

(70%) Seventy percent of our women go to Middle East are going to have a square meal of food which they do not get at home.

Look at the sizes of these Buddhist Priests. Can you call them Vegetarians. They look like over fed Studs compared to the average size of the population.

This is the priest who threatened the pastor with death if he returned to Weeraketiya?
This is the priest whose attack caused the wife of the pastor to be hospitalized for an eye operation?
This is the priest who led many attacks on small churches in the Hambantota didtrict?
This is the priest who was warned by a man of God “God will lay hands on those who lay hands on God’s people” and his response was “මම ඒක දෙවියො එක්ක බලා ගන්නම් – I will deal with God”

NO – GOD DID NOT KILL HIM
The devil did – he used him and finally killed him.

This is a warning to those who attack churches and men of God – TOUCH NOT THE LORD’S ANOINTED

        1. God of Abrahamic religions didn’t guarantee justice in this world. The very story of God saving the child Moses alone from the Paraoh of exodus while the other male children were killed is a perfect example.

        2. The problem of evil is an essence of life on earth. it’s the basic ingredient in the test for obedience.

when they keep their charity within their own community, you call them separatists, selfish and non-integrating ones. when they take your kids too to their orphanages when you don’t feed them as a community for ages, you call them proselytizers. it’s simply your hatred or a way of letting your personal grievances out. the word is hypocrisy.

This is the priest who took out his robes to show his whatever at Dambulla mosque incident. He was also corrupt, took money promising jobs. I wonder whether such a corrupt person who liked the world and money, would commit suicide. I am sure he wanted to pour kerosene and then not light the fire but did somebody else do the job for him. Didn’t any of those onlookers tried to stop him. Did he think that people will douse the flames before long and he will survive.
I have a feeling he never expected to die but to survive to become a hero.

According to Buddhism, individuals’ past acts heavily influence what they experience in the present; present acts, in turn, become the background influence for future experiences (the doctrine of karma). Intentional action by mind, body or speech have a reaction. This reaction, or repercussion, is the cause of conditions and differences one encounters in life.

Buddhism teaches that all people experience substantial suffering (dukkha), in which suffering primarily originates from past negative deeds (karma), or may result as a natural process of the cycle of birth and death (samsara). Other reasons for the prevalence of suffering concern the concepts of impermanence and illusion (maya). Since everything is in a constant state of impermanence or flux, individuals experience dissatisfaction with the fleeting events of life. To break out of samsara, Buddhism advocates the Noble Eightfold Path.

For Buddhists, since the first precept is to refrain from the destruction of life, including one’s self, suicide is seen as a negative act. If someone commits suicide in anger, he may be reborn in a sorrowful realm due to negative final thoughts.[15][16] However, unlike Christianity and other religions, Buddhism does not condemn suicide, but rather states that the reasons for suicide are often negative and thus counteract the path to enlightenment.[17]

There is one Buddhist tale of a bhikkhu named Godhika[18] who had repeatedly attained temporary liberation of mind but was unable to gain final liberation due to illness.[18] Godhika chose to take his own life while in a state of temporary liberation to be reborn in a high realm.[18] The Buddha was quoted as saying

Such indeed is how the steadfast act:
They are not attached to life.

Having drawn out craving at its root
    Godhika has attained final Nibbaana.[18]
There is a similar story of a bhikkhu named Vakkali who committed suicide upon becoming an arhant.[18] Ultimately, tales like these point to a Buddhist belief that suicide may be acceptable (“good”) if it will lead to non-attachment. However, people who have achieved enlightenment do not commit suicide. In both above cases they were not enlightened before attempting suicide but they became enlightened during or following their deaths.[19]

In an entry in the The Encyclopedia of Religion, Marilyn J. Harran wrote the following:

Buddhism in its various forms affirms that, while suicide as self-sacrifice may be appropriate for the person who is an arhat, one who has attained enlightenment, it is still very much the exception to the rule[20]

The Channovàda-sutra gives yet another example of an arhant who committed suicide.[21]
