Fake Foreign Minister Amunugama’s Daughter’s Desperate Damage Control Attempt Further Exposes Diplomatic Snub In Maldives

Following the expose by Colombo Telegraph revealing how the fake Foreign Minister was snubbed during the inauguration of President Ibrahim Solih in the Maldives last week his daughter and media moghul Varuni Fernando (nee Amunugama) has alleged on Facebook that this website was engaging in fabrication about her father’s visit. Varuni Fernando posted the images and her message below on a Facebook Page known as ‘Colombo telegraph readers” which is in no way associated with this website. However Varuni Fernando suddenly became a member of the FB group to post the following message:

Varuni Fernando And Sarath Amunugama

Colombo Telegraph! Please let this important communication space be used for verified facts not blatant lies the by those who post falsities just simply because they are jobless and want to create pain of mind to others”

Tagging a picture of Fake Foreign Minister Amunugama being greeted by President Solih Varuni Fernando posts – “A picture speaks a thousand words!!!!! Do not blatantly lie. Why would you enjoy Spreading false information???? One can only feel pity for people like you.” On her facebook she has further tagged a picture of Amunugama in conversation with former Maldivian President Nasheed.

Unfortunately for Ms Fernando these desperate efforts and so called ‘picture evidence’ further reinforces the humilation faced by the purported Foreign Minister in the Maldives as exposed by Colombo Telegraph.

The Colombo Telegraph story at no point claimed Dr Amunugama was not given any courtesy. The snub in fact was that former President Chandrika Kumaratunga who holds no official post in the current illegal regime and is well known for her anti-Sirisena-Rajapaksa positions was given pride of place at the inauguration ceremony being seated next to three former Maldivian presidents (Wahid, Nasheed, Gayoom) along with South Asia’s most powerful man, Narendra Modi, PM of India.

The self-proclaimed leader of the Sri Lankan delegation and fake Foreign Minister Sarath Amunugama and along with Faizer Mustapha and MP Namal Rajapaksa were allocated seats no where near the VVIPs at the official inauguration ceremony.

Colombo Telegraph can now additionally report that former President Kumaratunga was granted a one on one bilateral meeting an honour granted to a handful of high level dignitaries who attended the inauguration. These include PM Modi and his delegation, special envoys of the kings of Morocco and Saudi Arabia, special envoys of the PM of Japan and the President of China and the Foreign Minister of Palestine. It is inconceivable that Sri Lanka being the closest neighbour and ally of the Maldives, that the purported head of delegation did not have a one to one bilateral meeting with the new Maldives President.

Which brings us to the pathetic pictures posted by Varuni Fernando – where fake Foreign Minister had to resort to a picture taken at a reception hosted by the President of the Maldives where he greeted over 400 guests coming into the hall, as evidence of purported Minister Amunugama’s meeting with the VVIP. The Maldives President’s media unit which posted a clip of President Solih greeting his guests at the entrance of the reception for 43 minutes which included the purported Sri Lankan head of delegation. However by contrast the Maldivian president’s office gave explicit coverage via photographs and youtube video of the bilateral meeting between former President CBK and the Maldivian top leaders.

The purported Foreign Minister who in desperation resorts to a shaky photograph of a split second greeting by former Maldivian President Nasheed at the above reception sees no snub by the Maldivian side where President Kumaratunga was warmly greeted at the foot of the gangway upon her arrival in Male by Nasheed himself.

The 80 year old Amunugama who sneaked in through the national list of the UPFA in 2015 It is important to note that all his predecessors within days of being appointed were invited to New Delhi while not a single Ambassador has officially called on Amunugama or a single foreign minister congratulated him on the appointment one month into the term of the illegal government that came to power through an illegal power grab on 26 October.

It is also deeply ironic that Varuni Fernando speaks of media responsibility and truth-telling while being the co-owner of the Derana network which is the biggest apologist and propagandist for the Rajapaksa regime and the an active stakeholder in the October 26 coup. Derana has been blatant in it support for the illegal power grab normalising the illegal government and demonising the Speaker of Parliament for daring to stand up to a President drunk on power and continuously violating the constitution.

Following video clip shows Maldives president greeting hundreds of guests attending his reception for 43 minutes. This is the “big” moment of Amunugama’s meeting with President Solih. (To watch the video click here )

Amunugama until Sept 26th was supporting Ranil, all of a sudden he has jumped on to Mahinda’s side. I wonder how long his tail is, or is he one of those that live in Gibraltar without the tail?

‘Derana network which is the biggest apologist and propagandist for the Rajapaksa regime and the an active’

Hmmm CT to accuse others of apologist and propagandist & blatant in it support of, is like ‘the pot calling the kettle black’

However the i do commend ct for highlighting the illegal occupation of our nation by a domestic junta, which we all must resist.

        Instead of the usual Bashing.

    Ms. Varuni Fernsndo,

Yes, as a daughter it is painful to see your father, who is the fake foreign minister of the illegal govt. in Sri Lanka., being snubbed. Did he crash the party? He is like a basted. The only thing real and legal appears to be you as his daughter, assuming that your parents were legally married.

Let this episode take its own course, and be sorted out by Sirisena, the Traitor and Sevalaya.

      Mr Amarasiri,
your language towards Mr Amunugama is shameful as a person and as a citizen of SL. Do you know the meaning of Bastard ( not basted ) ??????
No ! you don’t… Check out the meaning when you do have time.
Sure ! you are not same.
What about the other politicians in your country. Are they not bastards too. ????????
Have not the other politicians in your country screwed you people up from 1948 till present.
Names need not be mentioned but if one is a bastard then all are bastards because they have all effed you up and your people since independence.

Yes ! Mr Amunugama is legally married and sure that your parents are same.
Come, come Mr Amarasiri, look at yourself in the mirror, take a shave, a bath, groom yourself, go out of the wilderness you are living in and use your vote wisely to give your country one final chance to become what it should have become decades ago.

If you cannot use your vote wisely because there are no wise politicians to vote into power, then the best thing you can do with that ballot paper is to wipe the shit of your arse with it.

There !! you will be doing a wise thing once in your life.
      Take care & good luck.

There is story that at one time SA was living with both his partner and the legally married wife under the same roof. This decades before he entered politics. If true what else can be expected from such a morally unsound person.

        Mr. Usher,

Thanks for pointing out the typo, error, basted, which should be bastard. When a child is born out of wedlock? Illegally, the child is considered a bastard. Similarly, when an MP becomes an Illegal Foreign Minister of an Illegal Government, by analogy, the Foreign Minister is a bastard. So, Amunugama, is a bastard. The daughter, due to emotional reasons, by trying to defend the bastard minister, has contaminated herself. However, Amarasiri did give, the benefit of doubt to her legality, even though her father’s actions does raise questions as to his other actions, including her parents legality. So, a legally valid marriage cretics term and the daughters birthday along with DNA genetics analysis is needed to unequivocally sort the bastard issue. The Partliamrnt has confirmed that Amunugama is a Bastard Minister several times.

The current focus is on the current illegal bastard foreign minister.

The meaning of bastard is a whore’s son. That itself shows who that man is. He is a fake foreign minister abosuletely no legal mandate to hold that post. Same word applies to a President who Violate the constitution as well.

      Dear Ms. Varuni Fernando,
I agree with Amarasiri that it is a painful to see the treatment to your father in a foregin country. Unfortunately, your father do not represent Srilanka or legitimate government of Srilanka. Rather than you defend your father and get a bad name for you as well, as an educated daughter you can advise your father to get rid of the association with illegal and undemocratic people like Mahinda & Sirisena who wants to damage the image of the country. Even the Maldives believe that your father is a fake minister. It is not only Maldives, almost all the countries in the world feels that your father’s minister post is fake. Think and I am sure your father will listen to you instead of listening to Hora Mahinda & Sirisena

Dr Sarath Amunugama was a man whom I regarded with a great deal of respect. What a joke he has made of himself.
    .
He will be regarded at best as a fair-weather friend. One should do what one can, when one can, and then forget about it. Well, no. What I’m now doing is telling readers that I actually met Nasheed when he was a prisoner in 1994 (and got noted, no doubt), and I met both Nasheed and Ibu Solih again about three months ago, when I felt that I could actually help these two fine men.
    .
Another Sri Lankan whom they will without doubt remember with gratitude is Professor Jeevan Hoole. To get the full picture, please see:

Sarath Amunugama is a Principle less, Unscrupulous, Lascivious character. Everyone knows how he hitched tent with Actress Geetha Kumarasinghe. Apart from Pujitha Jayasundara who received Rs. 24 mil from the Trinity College funds for providing safe passage to the deported Principal Rod Gilbert to enter the country in December 2008, when he was deported in May 2008, this man Sarath Amunugama also accompanied Rod Gilbert for his son’s wedding. He has a cheque for Rs. 18 mil issued to him with the reverse endorsement of it being deposited to his account. So much for his integrity and honesty as an intellectual and being an old boy of Trinity itself pocketing funds of College for his personal use. Evidence will soon surface that has been kept off the media because of the involvement of Mharajah & Company.

I do understand a daughter’s hurt of the poor treatment given to one’s father, when she was expecting a better treatment. Unfortunately, through Maldivian eyes, her father was not a foreign minister of a recognised government. If she considers her father a member of SL parliament, Maldivians were reasonable in their treatment of her father .

Oh shit Derana, it’s a real stinking cesspit. In anything they do no ethics in them. They want at any costs the criminals back in office to regain their fun of milking the country. My foot, anyone call them human and educated. They would even eat shit, if it’s gives the then the power, positions and wealth, . They consider themselves from high society but expose them as pathetic greedy lowly creatures.

Dr. Sarath Amunugama is a relative of Mrs.B. In fact, I was told by one of his colleagues in the CCS, many years ago that he was proposed to Chandrika EX;President; But the marriage did not materialise.
The saddest thing is people of the calibre of Prof:GL and Dr.Amunugama were mountain streams at one time.
They are now flowing into mud.

I can’t understand the mentality of some of these intellectuals of SL, such as, Amunugama & GL. They had a successful education & could have a comfortable lifestyle, earning the respect of all Sri Lankans, yet, even at a time when they could retire with dignity, they need more & are happy to sacrifice their self respect in their pursuit for infinite wealth.

I feel sorry for the daughter of Amunugama to have a father scorned by the public but then again, she hasn’t done too badly, presumably, with her father’s help & connections. I suppose money talks but sometime in his dying days, he will regret the self respect he lost is more than his material wealth.

From a daughter’s point-of-view irrespective of who or what her father might be it’s a child’s instinct to defend him. So please spare her from your snare.

Having said that one cannot discount the fact that Sarath Amunugama’s intellect has been poorly invested in the wellbeing of the country. He has played it dirty and at 80 years, one would think he would be wiser to do the right thing by the country and our democracy. Sadly greed even at this stage seems to be the motivation at the expense of the hapless Sri Lankan public.

I agree that Derena is the mouthnpiece of the Rajapakse’s but it was the UNP that entrusted her agency with the advertising contract for elections which the UNP lost badly. So it’s all about money and less of intergrity.

I really feel sorry for Dr SA as he is one of the intellectuals in our parliament at present. Shouldn’t insult him. Both Dr SA and Varuni are creative individuals which should be commended irrespective of their politics.

    Ravi K’s daughter did it.
So did the daughter of MS.

All these daughters defend their fathers, not for love, but for the huge monetary benefits they reap when their fathers hold office. Any other loving daughter would have advised her 80 year old father to retire and stay at home.

CBK was involved in the regime change in Maldives. That is why she was given special treatment not an indication about Maldive’s attitude to what happens again.

Anyway I think SL has too many Maldivians living in SL, we have to think twice on visa on arrival facility granted to Maldivians. I dont understand why we let Maldivians live in SL just because their island is soon to go under water. They should rather go to west or arabia.

I often wonder Amungama is the luckiest guy in Sri Lanka. He always gets more than what he wants. I’m sure when 90 he will still be a Minister in whatever government.
