Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was appointed as the Prime Minister through the back door on October 26, today lost the sixth consecutive vote in Parliament.

Rajapaksa suffered a humiliating defeat this morning itself when 122 MPs from the UNP, the TNA and the JVP supported a motion seeking to cut off budgetary allocations to cabinet, state and deputy ministers of the purported government.
When the motion was put to vote, 122 MPs voted in favour of it. UNP MP Sujeewa Senasinghe was absent in the House while the voting was in progress.
UNP Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka presented a motion to Parliament this morning and the UPFA MPs supporting Rajapaksa did not attend the sessions today as well.
Six UNP MPs, namely Rajitha Senaratne, Ravi Karunanayake, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Arjuna Ranatunga, Mano Ganesan and Jayampathy Wickremaratne submitted the motion to the Secretary-General of Parliament, last week, seeking to restrict all ministry secretaries from accessing public funds to pay salaries and emoluments of all ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers and members of their personal staff.
The motion also prohibits ministry secretaries from defraying their expenses incurred in foreign travel and internal air travel.

I am telling this again. MR is NOT a fake Prime Minister. He was appointed by the President. This crisis arose as RW was not removed in accordance with the Constitution followed by prorogation of the Parliament, thus making two Prime Ministers.
Though UNF shows the majority with the support of TNA and JVP, they can’t form a government with them as per the 19A. To form a government, UNF has to join with the UPFA.
I don’t agree with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa being subjected to a personal disgrace as he was appointed legally. What happened was beyond his control as all the actions that led to a crisis were taken by the President.
Therefore, UPFA should seek a national government with “Co-Prime Ministers.” As I explained in my other comment to the news item titled “TNA back UNF government”, UNF has no alternative other than agreeing to it, as they cannot form a government without the UPFA.

I stand by what I said. MR’s appointment is legal. But I never said Maithri’s government or the Cabinet is legal.
In my opinion, there is no legal government or a Cabinet right now.
The reason is, this government and the Cabinet operate outside Parliament.
No government can survive without a majority in the Parliament as they cannot run the country without having the ability to pass Motions in Parliament.
According to Constitution, President has no power to appoint a government or a Cabinet on his own.
Some people blame those who formulated 19A. They should appreciate the fact that 19A was drafted with the full consent of Maithripala Sirisena, the President. There is no way he could be exonerated. Many times he hailed UNP for bringing 19A which was passed by UPFA with 2/3 majority.
Moreover, I still say Ranil’s removal is illegal.
There are only 2 ways to remove a PM i.e. through an NCM or by his resignation. None of them happened. Therefore, Ranil should still be considered as the PM.
Under this scenario, there is no way for a government to function legally.
My suggestion was to end the crisis by acknowledging both PMs so that President’s undue, unconstitutional and undemocratic actions will not have any impact on the Parliament or the country.
I understand after today’s talks with UNF and TNA, President has sought a Motion to be passed seeking a new PM!!!!
That is ridiculous!
Speaker and the Parliament both should refuse President’s absurd request POINT BLANK. Parliament is guided by the Constitution and its own traditions, rules and symbolism.
I am requesting the Speaker, please don’t let the President to set wrong precedents.

We ended up with the unusally unusual two GoSLs, one of which we fondly refer to as ‘fake’.
The unsualest unusual is the two GoSL recognising each other. One defeats the other in Parliament with, what are effectively, NCMs. The other side ‘boycotts’ the Parliament led by Dinesh, the self-styled ‘Leader of the House’.

The matter is before the full Bench of the Supreme Court. Both GoSLs do not want the word coup used.

In the meantime ‘The Daily Mirror’ of 30 November says “We will adopt next strategy after Supreme Court ruling MR”.

This is the end result of fake amendment made to the constitution by con actors. Amendments do not aligned each other. Addictive cluses injected at the comittee level. Since we had idiots as the representatives, allowed those un tested fictional cluses to materialised as the law. Now paying penalty, for the stupidity. Suspending standing orders, the same 225 in contrast to one group, divided to own segments, passing by laws to attract one scalp for $1.2 mio to migrate to the each battle field. Since we sent 225 buffoons to the legislature, hope the superior court in the country, would do the correction and terminate sessions by calling a new mandate. After all please send the same comedians again to the parliament and enjoy fake democracy, because we always being badly cheated, not immune for cheating and corruption.

Parliament is not the personal property of the so called President of Sri lanka but belongs to people of Sri Lanka, who elects members to fill the parliament, every 5 years . He cannot appoint Ministers & Prime Ministers as and when he likes without the consent of the party that holds the majority of votes in the Parliament. His powers are also further restricted with the introduction of 19th Amendment and he was the author of it. He may be in trouble with the law for violating his own constitution, approved by majority vote.He is now acting as if there is no such amendment in force called 19th Amendment, which clipped the vast powers vested in the hands of the President, because it was felt by the people and the clergy that such powers will lead to one man rule, and JRJ & MR proved it .
